1a. Senate leaders strike deal to end shutdown, raise debt ceiling - The Hill
Senate leaders have finalized an agreement to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling, and expect the House to vote on it soon. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) presented the deal to his conference Wednesday morning. Republican senators quickly rallied around the proposal, which would fund government through Jan. 15. McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) put the finishing touches on the proposal after an effort by House Republicans to advance a competing resolution collapsed Tuesday.
1b. Boehner to allow vote on Senate debt deal - The Hill
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has agreed to allow a vote in the House on the emerging Senate debt-ceiling deal, according to a Senate source. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) were racing to put the finishing touches on the deal Wednesday, a day before Treasury's deadline for raising the $16.7 trillion debt ceiling.
- Tomorrow is our new D-Day: a day when we must fight through prayers, fasting and repentance to see this battle won in the heavenlies. All of us agree, at the very least, that we cannot sit idly by and accept a law that mandates the funding of abortion on demand, with our taxpayer money. Many more problems lie within the 2200 pages of the Affordable Care Act, as well.
Fight the good fight of faith! This is D-Day: as our grandfathers died on the shores of Omaha Beach to secure our freedom from tyranny, can we not find the same courage today? Pray without ceasing . . . pray!
- "Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you." (Ezekiel 35:6)
2. House GOP to push Obama, Biden into Obamacare - Washington Times
House Republicans on Tuesday narrowed their attack on Obamacare to the issue of fairness, insisting that President Obama and his top political appointees all have to buy their insurance through the Affordable Care Act's exchanges as part of a new bill to end the government shutdown and extend the federal debt ceiling.
- O Father God, You are at the helm of this ship and we put our trust in Your wisdom to steer this twist in circumstances to the good cause of our country as a whole. Because it was the Lord who held Obamacare as a large book in His hands and turned it to sawdust as it fell at His feet, this subject in the eyes of God is destroyed, and does not exist. It is a phantom, a will-o-the-wisp, as empty as the words of men. In Jesus' Name we pray.
- "Thus says the Lord God; He that hears, let him hear; and he that forbears, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house." (Ezekiel 3:27)
3. 'So much wrong': Aetna CEO blasts Obamacare tech debacle - CNBC
Aetna's CEO gave a harshly critical review Monday of the federal government's Obamacare marketplace, saying, "There's so much wrong, you just don't know what's broken until you get a lot more of it fixed."
- Lord God, stretch out Your hand and enlighten those in the insurance industry to acknowledge that Obamacare is destroyed by the Lord Himself. It does not exist. It was turned to sawdust in the hands of the Lord and men cannot take this sawdust and put it back together. It is impossible. In Jesus' Name.
- "Son of man, all My Words that I shall speak unto you receive in your heart, and hear with your ears, says the Lord God." (Ezekiel 3:10)
4. Fitch warns it may cut U.S. credit rating from AAA - Reuters
Fitch Ratings warned on Tuesday it could cut the sovereign credit rating of the United States from AAA, citing the political brinkmanship over raising the federal debt ceiling.
- Father, arise mighty God in heaven and dissolve this brinkmanship of the hidden, shadow government that is controlling the leaders of this administration with the intent of bringing down America. Save us, Lord. In Jesus' Name we pray.
- "Thus says the Lord God; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. I will overturn, overturn , overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him." (Ezekiel 21:26-27)
5. House postpones vote on GOP plan to end shutdown, raise debt limit - Washington Examiner
House Republican leaders postponed a Tuesday night vote on a hastily-drafted plan to end the partial government shutdown and raise the nation's debt ceiling ahead of a Thursday deadline, shifting talks back to the Senate where they had stalled earlier in the day. Support from conservatives for the deal crumbled, leaving Washington without a clear path forward for avoiding a first-ever default on the nation's debt.
- Father God, we praise You for the strength of the conservatives to stand tall as a mighty force to be dealt with. In the vote that awaits them now, we ask that You strengthen them from within with the strength of the Lord that they not bend, nor bow, nor break under pressure but push through with white hot determination to break the back of the enemy and win this battle with shouts of victory. In Jesus' mighty Name we pray.
- "O sing unto the Lord a new song; for He has done marvelous things: His right hand, and His holy arm, has gotten Him the victory." (Psalm 98:1)
6. Social Security benefit increase could be among lowest in decades
- Fox News
Another year, another small raise for millions of people who rely on Social Security, veterans' benefits and federal pensions.
- Lord God, reverse this meager raise in Social Security benefits and let it be significantly increased as you move the limit higher to relieve the stress that the poor and needy have lived with. God, speak a miracle into existence that this country will see the mightiness of the Lord our God in supplying the needs of our people. In Jesus' Name we ask this, amen.
"The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice: let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies round about. The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the people see His glory." (Psalm 97:1,3,6)
7. US said weighing deal to let Iran continue enriching uranium
- Times of Israel
US President Barack Obama is considering letting Iran keep uranium-enrichment facilities in the country, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, a move that would bring Washington closer to Iranian demands but likely widen the gap between the White House and American allies in the region, including Israel. The newspaper did not provide a source for the claim.
- Father, how long shall they utter and speak willful things, and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces our people, O Lord, and afflict Your heritage. Lord, You know the thoughts of man, that they are vain and empty. Father, we pray that this consideration be met with an immoveable stone wall that blocks and kills this compromise with Iran. God, save America and Israel. In the Name of Jesus we pray.
- "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear." (Isaiah 59:1)

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church
For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." (Romans 10:11)
Increase in Violence & Persecution of Christians Expected in Wake of Nairobi Mall Massacre - The Washington Post
NAIROBI, Kenya - While the smoke that hung over the Westgate Shopping Mall has dissipated, a quiet tension still lingers in the air throughout the capital.
Last month's attack by al-Shabab militants on a mall frequented by Westerners in the capital city, left at least 67 dead. But the burning of a Christian church in the majority-Muslim city Mombasa just two weeks later suggests the nation is on the precipice of more conflict between Christians and Muslims.
This is dispiriting for many in a country that for years enjoyed relative peace between the two monotheistic religions that dominate the region.
"I am afraid that now, Muslims will attack more and the Christians will arm themselves and fight back," said Paul Komu, a truck driver and Christian who was driving near Westgate when the attacks occurred.
Kenya is predominantly Christian, with Muslims making up about 11 percent of its population, mostly along the Somali border, its coastal region, and in cities such as Mombasa.
To a large extent, day-to-day relations between the Muslims and Christians have been amicable.
Now, sentiments have shifted.
Ongwaye mentioned the targeting of non-Muslims in the mall attack as particularly unsettling. During the siege, the attackers demanded that Muslims identify themselves and leave the scene.
"The incident at Westgate has, in my opinion, rendered Christians more vulnerable to the Muslims and as such any future 'ecumenism' will be met with caution. It was very clear that those hostages who would recite the 'shahada' were saved from the bullet," he said, referring to the Muslim profession of faith.
Notwithstanding history and the fact that suspicion and outright trepidation grip the country, the majority of Kenyans, on both sides, said they do not want to see escalating violence. Some even struck a hopeful tone.

THE MADISONIAN
Team Madison -
As things are fluid in Washington, DC today, I want to keep you as up to speed as we can. Below is the press release we just put out. As I said in this morning's email, this is nothing but capitulation by Mitch McConnell.
McConnell-Reid Deal Raises Debt and Funds Obamacare
Without Any Reforms
Washington, D.C. - The Madison Project PAC released the following statement today regarding news that the Senate reached a deal to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling without cutting one penny from Obamacare or offering a single reform to its failing structure:
"Today's deal shows once again that the Senate Leadership, led by Mitch McConnell, knows nothing but capitulation," saidDrew Ryun of Madison Project. "Rather than working to dismantle the monstrosity that is Obamacare, Senate Republicans chose to hand Harry Reid and the Democrat party a victory at the expense of hard-working Americans. This is unacceptable. Our nations' true conservative leaders, Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and others - took a stand for freedom and did everything possible in their power to prevent an outcome like this. For that, we applaud them. While some may be discouraged by this outcome, we are encouraged by the thought of adding more Senators like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee to the GOP caucus in 2014. We will also continue the battle against Obamacare until the American people are given the same relief as Obama's special interests."
"What has become apparent from this battle is that we cannot fight Obamacare and other deleterious political ploys with only a handful of committed conservatives," said Daniel Horowitz of Madison Project. "Democrats will never have any incentive to change their ways when a sizable portion of Republican senators are cheering them on. This effort was sabotaged from day one, with a brave few left fighting with a knife in their backs. We are committed to sending them reinforcements, and based on the reaction we are receiving from the heart and soul of the Republican grassroots, the career politicians are in for a surprise."
For Liberty.

Of dictators, democracy and disgrace
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
The lawmakers and the president are scrambling around like rats on a sinking ship trying to position themselves for a last minute heroic of saving the country from default--whatever that means to various subgroups of the rest of the world. They have all--irrespective of party or position--acted irresponsibly. They have ignored fundamental principles of not spending more than what you have and putting political favors for individuals and special interest groups ahead of sound policy and actions. This is a morass of astronomical proportions and it is designed to bring order out of chaos--a disgraceful dictatorship in the guise of democracy. Beware of the coming days and months.
Socialized healthcare is the anchor of dictatorship in this new century. If socialized healthcare is allowed to stand, the nation will be forever changed from one of enterprise and opportunity to one of entitlement and dictatorship. There is so much in the Affordable Care Act that is anti-American, anti-Republic, anti-Constitution that the tip of the iceberg can hardly be seen. The ramifications of this law will be far reaching, long lasting, and dictatorial. For example, if you claim your Second Amendment rights, you will be subject to a mental health investigation. You will be paying for other peoples' abortions. Illegals, the IRS and Congress are exempt. You will be paying for them--one way or another.
After the dust settles on this public ruse, we may as well put our freedom in a straightjacket. There is hardly an elected official who is standing for what is right. In the end, they all will support more government control, more rights being taken away, and more and higher taxes being paid by the rest of us. This debate ultimately is not about keeping the country from defaulting or from falling into socialism, but rather establishing a new order of government and most ALL the elected are in on it either by cunning, by naiveté, by ego, or by outright stupidity. Americans feel helpless to do anything about it because the elected are not listening. Theirs is a bloodlust of the politic; the deal more important than the outcome.
Many try to over-spiritualize this saying it is God's judgment or the end times or it is none of a practicing Christian's concern. God's judgment on the world with the flood and on Sodom and on Israel, still left a way out for men who took righteous action. We are in this situation on this day because of the human condition. Now we are about to pay the price in a nation that was birthed with the God-given blessing of freedom. We need to stand up and shout and take action with our feet on the ground. We have allowed these evildoers to disgrace our God and our nation and have paid them to do it--now the cost is our freedom. Choose this day whom you will serve. As in Joshua 24:15, "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
No king but Jesus!
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

House Republicans Sing "Amazing
Grace"

House Republicans Sing "Amazing Grace"
Yesterday House Republicans began a caucus meeting by singing "Amazing Grace." Not surprisingly, they were mocked by a liberal Democrat from northern Virginia. Rep. Gerald Connolly quipped, "Isn't that usually sung at funerals?"
The fact that the members of one party felt the impulse to remind themselves of a central truth -- that we all fall short and are saved by the grace of God -- was met by scorn and derision by a liberal Democrat. Yet Republicans get blamed for the lack of civility in Washington.
It wasn't Republicans who shut down the World War II Memorial or tried to cut off death benefits to the widows and children of our fallen heroes in Afghanistan.
Surprisingly, the Boston Globe, a flagship newspaper of the left, recently published a very long article that was critical of Obama's leadership style -- and specifically his failure to deliver on his promises to bridge the partisan divide in Washington. Consider this excerpt:
"In nearly five years in office, Obama has met individually with Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell two times, according to a review of White House visitor logs, pool reports, and press releases. . .
"He has visited Democrat-leaning 'blue' states six times more often than he has visited Republican 'red' states. . . . None of his major legislative accomplishments -- the stimulus, health care, and financial reforms -- received more than six Republican votes.
"In sum, one of the biggest failures of Obama's presidency is that, five years after he took office vowing to close the partisan divide, the capital he now oversees and the country he represents are far more divided than they were before he came."

OCT. 16 - Day of Fasting . . .
then a hurricane destroyed enemy fleet!
(Excerpt)
Massachusetts Governor William Shirley declared a Day of Prayer and Fasting, October 16, 1746, to pray for deliverance. . . (from an advancing armada of a French invasion, which included 73 ships with 800 cannons and 13,000 troops.)
Boston citizens gathered in the Old South Meeting House, where Rev. Thomas Prince prayed:
"Send Thy tempest, Lord, upon the water . . . scatter the ships of our tormentors!"
Historian Catherine Drinker Bowen related that as he finished praying, the sky darkened, winds shrieked and church bells rang "a wild, uneven sound . . . though no man was in the steeple."
A hurricane scattered the entire French fleet as far as the Caribbean. Lightning struck several ships, igniting gunpowder magazines, causing explosions and fire.
With 2,000 dead, including Admiral d'Anville, and 4,000 sick with typhoid, French Vice-Admiral d'Estournelle threw himself on his sword.
[The city of Boston was saved!]
