The Daily Brief - Friday, October 30, 2009

"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth." (Job 19:25)

REMINDER:

Please note that on Monday, Novermber 2, "On Capitol Hill This Week" will not be published. The Daily Brief will resume on Tuesday, November 3. PLEASE REMAIN ALERT FOR ANY SPECIAL BULLETINS WE MAY PUBLISH THIS WEEKEND. Thank you.

SECOND REMINDER:

PLEASE REMEMBER TO GO TO THE POLLS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, AND VOTE!

The Daily Brief

1. A. House health bill clocks in at 1,990 pages - Politico

The House health care bill unveiled Thursday clocks in at 1,990 pages and about 400,000 words. With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word.
B. CBO Rebuts Pros, Cons of Public Option - Wall Street Journal

Only six million Americans would enroll in the public plan proposed in the health bill unveiled by House Democrats, the CBO said, and the plan's premiums would typically be higher than those for private plans.

- We pray for an outpouring of action from all in this nation who disagree with the direction of the government in Washington. May the eyes of the people be opened and may they see the true price of these initiatives.

- "We waited for peace, but no good came; For a time of healing, but behold, terror!" (Jeremiah 8:15)

2. Muslim Man Arrested for Allegedly Running Down Daughter - Fox News

Police in a Phoenix suburb say an Iraqi immigrant has been arrested in Georgia for allegedly running down his daughter because she was becoming "too Westernized."

- As incidents like this spread, we thank You that they are being made public. We pray that Your Gospel will spread into these communities and the people will be freed by Your grace and love.

- "You shall not behave thus toward the LORD your God, for every abominable act which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods." (Deuteronomy 12:31)

3. A. Leak lays bare US Congress ethics probes - AFP

Red-faced US lawmakers grappled Friday with the fallout from a leak that revealed normally secret preliminary ethics probes affecting more than 30 members of the US Congress and several aides. The Washington Post, citing a confidential July document obtained from a source not connected with the investigations, revealed late Thursday that they covered possible influence peddling and corporate lobbying. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, also known as the Ethics Committee, blamed the "unlawful access" on the file-sharing software on a junior staffer and said that aide no longer worked for the panel. The document cited an investigation into lawmakers' contacts with a now-closed lobbying firm probed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the Post. That inquiry touched seven members on a House committee that manages military funding. Other matters included an investigation into the personal finances of Democratic Representative Charles Rangel, chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee.

B. Dozens in Congress under ethics inquiry - Washington Post

House ethics investigators have been scrutinizing the activities of more than 30 lawmakers and several aides in inquiries about issues including defense lobbying and corporate influence peddling, according to a confidential House ethics committee report prepared in July.

- Thank You that this report has surfaced. We pray that this will cause action to be taken against those who are lining their pockets with others' money.

- "It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the proud." (Proverbs 16:19)

4. Taxpayers' real cost of cash for clunkers: $24,000 a car, Edmonds.com analysis says - USA Today

Taxpayers ended up paying an average of $24,000 per vehicle for the cash-for-clunkers program over the summer when sales that would have happened anyway are taken into consideration, says car-buying research site Edmunds.com.

- We pray there will be public attention given to reports like these and that all those in government will be held accountable for their waste of other citizens' money.

- "Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail." (Jeremiah 7:8)

5. Bullet Hits Lou Dobbs' N.J. Home - Washington Times

Police in New Jersey are trying to determine who fired a bullet that struck CNN commentator Lou Dobbs' home as his wife stood nearby. State police Sgt. Stephen Jones says Dobbs' wife and driver were outside the home Oct. 5 when they heard the gunshot. Jones says the bullet didn't penetrate the siding and fell to the ground outside. Dobbs says he had been receiving threatening phone calls for weeks. On his radio show, he connected the gunshot to his advocacy for a crackdown on illegal immigration and to his opponents' rhetoric.

- We pray for Your protection for all those who are speaking out for justice and for those who are leading important discussions in this country. May the perpetrators of this act be caught.

- "Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You." (Psalm 25:21)

6. Clinton to meet Abbas, Netanyahu in Middle East - USA Today

The State Department says Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders over the weekend to push ahead with efforts to restart stalled peace talks.

- Lord, we pray that the leaders in this meeting will be hindered from making any agreements that are contrary to the inheritance You promised to Your people.

- "He has cast the lot for them, And His hand has divided it to them by line. They shall possess it forever; From generation to generation they will dwell in it." (Isaiah 34:17)

7. Al Qaeda agent gets eight years - AP

An al Qaeda sleeper agent who admitted contact with the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was sentenced to more than eight years in prison Thursday. U.S. District Judge Michael Mihm could have sentenced Ali al-Marri to as much as 15 years. But he handed down the lighter sentence of eight years and four months in consideration of what defense attorneys called harsh treatment during the almost six years al-Marri was held without charges in a U.S. Navy brig.

- Thank You that there has been a conviction, but we pray that the judges in these cases will be wise in giving sentences to those who plot evil.

- "I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is." (Galatians 5:10)

8. Teheran rejects uranium shipment plan - Jerusalem Post

Iran on Thursday rejected a plan to send its uranium to be processed overseas, just hours after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country was ready to cooperate with the West.

- May the nations of the world be awakened to the futility of their discussions with this murderous regime. We pray for the safety of Israel and all those threatened by Iran.

- "The nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters, But He will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind, Or like whirling dust before a gale." (Isaiah 17:13)

The Middle East in Focus

2. Turkey: 'We must try to repair our friendship' - Jerusalem Post

"Both [Israel and Turkey] cooperate strategically - we must make the utmost of efforts to put the train of our friendship back on track," Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said at an event commemorating Turkey's National Day at the house of the Turkish ambassador in Kfar Shmaryahu in central Israel on Thursday afternoon.

3. Hamas issues stern warning to shun PA elections - ICEJ News

The internal Palestinian rift deepened on Wednesday as Hamas came out firmly against Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas over his recent call for general elections in January and warned that anyone who takes part in the balloting is "endangering themselves and will be summoned for investigation."

4. Jones: 'Nothing off the table for US' - ICEJ News

Iranian officials have assured they will formally respond by Thursday to the UN-drafted nuclear fuel deal tabled in Vienna last week, and although reports in various state media indicate that Tehran will agree to the proposal in principle, they are expected to reject its call for sending all of Iran's low-enriched uranium abroad by the end of this year.

Update: Cap-and-Trade Bill

Cap-and-Trade Bill Would Harm Families

SUMMARY: Testimonies on cap and trade legislation describe the consequences of environmental taxes on families.

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is considering a cap and trade bill that purportedly takes aim at global warming.

Under a cap-and-trade scheme, the government would set a limit or "cap" on emissions of carbon dioxide. If, for example, a company goes over the limit, the government would force it to buy "credits" from other companies deemed by government to be producing less carbon dioxide than the cap allows. In countries where it has been tried, fraud has been rampant.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., chairs the committee and is co-author of the bill. She claims the legislation would create jobs, but that contradicts a statement made to Congress earlier this month by the director of the Congressional Budget Office that said cap and trade would cause "significant" job losses.

Lt. Col. James Jay Carafano (Ret.), a fellow with the Heritage Foundation, testified to the committee today that cap and trade would cripple the U.S. economy. "Much of this decline would be from reduced economic productivity and job loss," he said. "In particular, under the House legislation, there would be 1.15 million fewer jobs on average than without a cap-and-trade bill."

Europe has imposed a similar tax that has cost its citizens $171 billion, but to date most countries have only reported minimal reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The Heritage Foundation estimates that by 2035, the typical American family of four would see energy costs rise more than $1,500 a year.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, also testified before the committee. He said the legislation includes 397 regulations on home sales that would make it nearly impossible for lower-income Americans to purchase property. "This will also eliminate the 'fixer-upper' type homes upon which many low income buyers depend," he said. "Many low-income families buy less-than-perfect homes because they are cheaper and they can perform needed repairs and improvements themselves."

Norquist said Americans will also feel the effects at the gas pump. "A study by Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Kit Bond found that the Waxman- Markey bill will result in a $3.6 trillion gas tax," he testified. "That breaks down to an additional $2.0 trillion tax on gasoline, a $1.3 trillion tax on diesel fuel, and a $330 billion tax on jet fuel."

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., said in a blog on the Heritage Foundation Web site that the American family can expect to see considerable increases in the cost of living. "It is clear that most American families' standard of living will be reduced," he said, "if this cap-and-trade bill is approved by Congress." (Focus on the Family; CitizenLink) Read more.

House Health-Care Reform Bill Unveiled

House Democrats introduced their nearly 2,000-page health-care reform plan today. The so-called Affordable Healthcare for America Act (H.R. 3962) refers to "tax," "taxes" or "excise tax" more than 100 times -- and would cost taxpayers $900 billion.

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., chairman of the House Republican Conference, said it's just another version of the same old legislation. "It just looks like another freight train of big government with more taxes, more mandates and more spending," he told CNN, "and that's not what the American people want in health-care reform."

Republicans and a handful of Democrats were successful in getting a 72-hour waiting period put on the bill. Pence said that gives lawmakers time to dig deeper into the language. "We can work together in a way that's fiscally responsible," he said, "but a massive new government-run insurance plan paid for with hundreds of billions of dollars in higher taxes is not the answer."
TAKE ACTION Ask your representative and senators to oppose any government-mandated health-care bill that does not specifically exclude federal funding of abortions.Go here.

Judicial Nominee Raises Questions

Another of President Barack Obama's nominees, Judge Edward Chen, is drawing criticism. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Oct. 22 to send Chen's nomination for a seat on the Northern California Federal District Court to the full Senate.

Chen, a long-time ACLU attorney and current federal magistrate in San Francisco, has made no secret of his views on American patriotism. When "America the Beautiful" was sung at a funeral, Chen wondered out loud during his remarks, "I cannot help but feel that there are too much (sic) injustice and too many inequalities that prevent far too many Americans from enjoying the beauty extolled in that anthem."

Chen has also been quoted as saying he agrees with the "empathy standard" made famous during the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. "These determinations require a judge to draw upon something that is not found in the case reports that line the walls of our chambers" he said. "Rather, judges draw upon the breadth and depth of their own life experience. Inevitably, one's ethnic and racial background contributes to those life experiences." (CitizenLink)

Update: Moslem Prayer Rally

Follow-up on Muslim Prayer Rally at U.S. Capitol

Intercessors For America (and Capitol Hill Prayer Partners) joins with U.S. and international prayer leaders in thanking all of you who prayed and helped mobilize concerted intercession for the September Muslim Prayer Rally at the U.S. Capitol. While organizers projected a gathering of 50,000 only an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 attended. The day was non- violent.

Because of the lower number, nearly every person there was given the opportunity to receive the Jesus DVD and gospel literature at least once. One leader reports that 50 to 60 percent of them accepted the packets, some with great joy. Teams report that they distributed over 2500 packets and many report having good conversations with attendees. Let us agree in this prayer passed along to us: "May many of these dear people come to know the Lord Jesus as a result!" (Intercessors for America)

- Pray that the loving presentation of the gospel and seeds planted be watered, nurtured and come to full fruition.

- "The gospel must first be preached to all the nations." - (Mark 13:10)

RIFQA IN DANGER

Rifqa's life is in great danger

Dear Saints of God,

We are asking this weekend for massive prayer to be raised up on behalf of the life of Rifqa Bary.
Lou Engle has issued a major alert for intercession for Rifqa, now that she has been returned to the custody of her parents. We are now attempting to obtain a copy of the text of Lou's statement for you and, when we do, we will send you a special alert on this.

Please join us now in offering this prayer for Rifqa's life:

"Father God in Heaven, we come before Your Throne of Grace on behalf of our sister, Rifqa. LORD, YOU are the God of the Universe, and yours is the highest court in the heavens. We ask YOU, Lord God, to intervene through the court system in the State of Ohio to protect the life of Rifqa Bary, that she might yet fulfill the desitny You have for her and for her people."

"Forgive us, LORD, for our complacency and help us to spread the word now to others in our networks of intercession to call forth PROTECTION FOR THE LIFE OF RIFQA BARY. We thank YOU that IT IS WRITTEN:

" . . . so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:11)

We send forth YOUR WORD NOW, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and we decree:
He allowed no man to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:

"Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." (I Chronicles 16:21,22)

The Daily Brief - Thursday, October 29, 2009

"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth." (Job 19:25)

The Daily Brief

1. Men, Women No Longer Needed to Make Babies?- Reuters

U.S. researchers have found a way to coax human embryonic stem cells to turn into the types of cells that make eggs and sperm, shedding light on a stage of early human development that has not been fully understood.

- Lord, we repent for those who constantly attempt to play God in their scientific experimentation. We pray for Your mercy over these people, and a revelation of Yourself to them. We pray against the use of the unborn as guinea pigs in these experiments.

- "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way" (Proverbs 8:13)

2. DNC Uses Flag desecration Video To Raise Funds - Fox News

A Democratic fundraising video on President Obama's political Web site shows an American flag mural being covered in graffiti and desecrated with slogans about health care reform.

As a heart monitor beeps ominously in the background, a graffiti artist paints over the Stars and Stripes with phrases criticizing opposition to the Democratic legislation, including "profit over life" and the crossed-out words "death panel." The whole flag is eventually smeared with paint and blacked out.

- Father, as the lack of respect and honor for our nation and for You continues to spiral downward, we pray that Your people would rise up and stand against this flood of deception.

-"When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him." (Isaiah 59:19)

3. Pelosi Unveils HealthCare Bill with Government Run Insurance Option - Fox News

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled a retooled health care overhaul plan Thursday intended to bridge differences among Democrats and open a history-making floor debate on extending health insurance to nearly all Americans.

Speaking on the West Front of the Capitol surrounded by Democratic lawmakers, Pelosi, D-Calif., said the House's version of a health care reform bill will include a government-run insurance option and extend coverage to 36 million uninsured Americans. She said the bill will lower patient costs and reduce the national deficit.

- Lord, may Your truth prevail against this "new" plan with a "new name." Let no deceiving strategy confound our Congress with regard to socializing medical care.

- "The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; he has ceased to be wise and to do good." (Psalm 36:3)

4. Economy Expands 3.5 Percent in Third Quarter, Biggest Growth in 2 Years - Fox News

The much-awaited turnaround ended the streak of four straight quarters of contracting economic activity, the first time that's happened on records dating to 1947.

- Father, while we thank You for apparent good news regarding the economy, we are concerned that this is the "Emperor's New Clothes," and not a true indicator of recovery. Lord, let our leaders not be deceived by this news, and may they work toward stabilizing the economy with solid godly principles.

- "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

5. Gay Marriage Vote Looms in Maine; Polls Show It's Close - NewsMax

Overwhelmed by millions of dollars from liberal donors pouring into their state from across the nation, Maine's supporters of traditional marriage are fighting an uphill battle on a ballot issue that would legalize gay marriage. The stakes are high. A victory by gay advocates would mark the first time the voters of any state supported a gay-marriage initiative and would resonate across the nation - especially backed by a friend in the White House.

- Lord, we pray that this measure would be defeated, regardless of how much money has flowed into the state. We ask for Your forgiveness that the measure was even raised, and pray that Your Spirit would move mightily across Maine.

- "Whoever walks blamelessly will be saved, but he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly fall." (Proverbs 28:18)

6. 3 At Large After FBI Raid the Killed Radical Islam Leader - Fox News

Three people were still on the loose Thursday after the FBI raid and deadly shooting of a radical Islam leader whose goal authorities say was to take down the U.S. government.

- Lord, we pray that You will rout the enemy and reveal their hiding places, so that they may be arrested before any plans come to fruition.

- "I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies." (Psalm 18:3)

7. Michigan Man Sues for Right to Put Back Family's Nativity Scene on Public Median - Fox News

A Michigan man has filed a federal lawsuit claiming his constitutional rights were violated when he was ordered to remove a Nativity scene from the median of a public road - a creche that his family has displayed at the location for 63 years.

- Lord, we pray that this lawsuit will triumph in the courts, so that You may be revealed.

- "The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies." (Isaiah 42:13)

8. Iran Gives UN Initial Response on Nuke Plan - AP

Iran has given an "initial response" to the International Atomic Energy agency on a plan that calls for Tehran to ship much of its enriched uranium abroad, the IAEA said Thursday. The wording of the IAEA statement appeared to dash Western hopes of a quick deal that would delay Tehran's ability to make a nuclear weapon.

- Father, we pray that these delaying tactics by Iran would be revealed for what they really are. We bind the cloud of deception around their actions, and loose the light of God to reveal truth. We pray for Your wisdom for the leaders of the free world, and ask that You move to stop Iran's nefarious plans.

- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper" (Isaiah 54:17)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Swallow up, O Lord, and divide their tongues; for I have seen violence and fighting in the city." (Psalms 55:9)

1. US: Israel favorites orthodox sects - Jerusalem Post

The State of Israel discriminates against non-Orthodox streams of Judaism and against Jewish-born believers in Christianity, while the Palestinian Authority has not been doing enough to combat Muslim violence against Christians, according to the US State Department's annual International Religious Freedom Report on Israel released this week.

2. US congressman: We must act, or Israel will - Ynet News

Israel may strike Iran should the United States fail to take prompt action to curb Tehran's nuclear program, Rep. Dan Burton said Wednesday.

3. Barak: Israel strives for peace; Syria must act responsibly - Ynet News

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Wednesday that "peace with Syria is a central ingredient in any regional peace deal.

4. Minister slams both Jews, Arabs over Temple Mount unrest - Ynet News

Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch urged on Wednesday both Arabs and Jews to abstain from provocations, in the wake of recent riots in the Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem.

White House Hate Crimes Reception

Today, President Obama signed the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act into law. The "Hate Crimes Prevention Act" embedded within it, will also become law. Later this evening in the White House, the President will host a separate reception to celebrate passage of the Hate Crimes provision. He will deliver remarks in the early evening, joined by Attorney General Eric Holder and prominent homosexual activists. FRC President Tony Perkins has said, "Expanding hate crimes puts America in lock step with the stated agenda of homosexual activists who will turn next to the so-called Employment Non- Discrimination Act, followed by the repeal of the ban on homosexuality in the military and then the Defense of Marriage Act."

- May the President's White House celebration be used of the Lord to stir pro-family Americans to resist the homosexual agenda, especially Bible-believing pastors and ministers. May the advance of this radical agenda stop here!

- Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. (Romans 6:16-18) (FRC Prayer Targets)

Health Care Update

The President appears ready to accept almost any kind of health care bill provided it gives the government sweeping new powers and can in some way be called "reform" -- and it appears that congressional Democrats are prepared to give it to him. But there are glimmers of hope: Five Senate Democrats inmediately said they are unwilling to commit to the proposal put forward by their own leader, Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Michigan Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak told C-SPAN that 40 fellow Democrats could kill the health care bill on a procedural vote, if House leaders refuse to allow a floor vote on an amendment that would prevent federal funding of abortion. Forty Democratic votes, together with all the House GOP votes, would be sufficient to stop the bill.

- May the Lord intervene to cause this entire socialistic health care hoax to unravel, just as it did in 1994. Whatever happens, may no American citizen be forced to finance federally funded abortion -- not one cent's worth.

- They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Rev. 12:11) (FRC Prayer Targets)

Winning Marriage Back

Updates on Maine, D.C., Washington State

Next Tuesday is D-Day for our friends in Maine who will vote on whether to exercise the "Citizen's Veto" and overturn the same-sex marriage legislation passed earlier this year. Governor Baldacci, who turned on traditional marriage supporters during the legislative battle, urged voters yesterday to support same- sex "marriage." Conflicting polls show the battle a dead heat, despite far more money spent by homosexual marriage advocates.

On Monday, two separate District of Columbia hearings dealt with marriage. On December 1, the D.C. Council will vote on their bill to legalize homosexual "marriage." If the Board of Elections denies D.C. citizens their right to an initiative to put marriage on the November 2010 ballot, they vow to carry their fight to the courts.

In Washington State SB 5668, passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor, affords same- sex couples in domestic partnerships all the rights and privileges enjoyed by married couples. Voters will ratify or reject SB 5668 by their vote on Referendum 71 next Tuesday. A yes vote favors more benefits for homosexual couples. Advocates have outspent pro- family opponents 5-1. Polls are leaning toward passage.

- May God stir the voters of Maine and Washington State to deliver a victory for traditional marriage on Tuesday. May the Maine win be the beginning of the undoing of the laws in other New England states, where the people have, so far, all been denied the right to vote on this matter. May the Lord use developments in D.C. to stir a nation-shaking turnaround in the war for marriage!

- And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:11,12) (FRC Prayer Targets)

Israel's Youth is Arising!

"An unprecedented mutiny took place at the swearing-in ceremony of Shimshon Battalion soldiers at the Kotel Thursday evening. Immediately after being sworn in, some of the soldiers raised large signs which said "Shimshon Battalion does not carry out evictions at Homesh."

Parents of soldiers also raised similar signs at the same moment.

The anger and frustration within the ranks of the Shimshon soldiers and their families reached a boiling point after the battalion was ordered to carry out numerous evictions at Homesh a Shomron (Samaria) community that was razed in the "Disengagement".

Just as the Kfir Regiment Commander began his speech at the ceremony, soldiers from the battalion raised two large signs against the evictions. Similar signs were raised by the soldiers' relatives in the audience. The "Disengagement" carried out in 2005 by the government of now-comatose Ariel Sharon included the destruction of all Jewish communities in Gaza. It was carried out in the hope of bringing about peace with the Arabs. However, no peace has materialized, and Jewish activists have been persistent in their attempts to return to Homesh. The military, on its side, has been evicting these Jews from the ruins time and time again sometimes in a violent manner, and often on the Jewish Sabbath."

This act by the Shimshon soldiers and the support by their parents will, please G-d, pass on a clear message to the government: never again will we allow you to use our sons and husbands to commit crimes against the Land of Israel and the People of Israel. We send our children to the army in order for them to fight the Arab enemy and to defend the land and the People of Israel. For this purpose they are willing to sacrifice their lives. Uprooting Jews from the Land of Israel and destroying Jewish homes in the Land of Israel is not part of what the IDF soldiers are meant to do and this is what the Shimshon brigade soldiers passed as a clear message.

Women in Green are proud to know that we have such wonderful youth who know that soldiers are not meant to be robots who blindly listen to any order and who, specifically at the Kotel, close to the Temple Mount, pledged allegiance to the Land of Israel and the people of Israel. These youth are our future leaders.

- "And they shall hearken and listen to the voice of God: and say, 'The Lord God of the Hebrews has met with us." (Exodus 5:3)

The Daily Brief - Wednesday, October 28, 2009

"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth." (Job 19:25)

The Daily Brief

1. Carnage in Pakistan - AP

Hillary Clinton vows U.S. support for Pakistan as car bomb strikes a busy market, killing at least 100. More than 200 people were wounded in the blast in the main northwestern city of Peshawar, the deadliest in a surge of attacks by suspected insurgents this month. The government blamed militants seeking to avenge an army offensive launched this month against Al Qaeda and Taliban in their stronghold close to the Afghan border.

- Father, we ask that You surround all the Taliban and their allies with the warrior angels of God and strike down their fierceness with a blow from Your hand. Disarm them God, weaken their fury, bring them down under the mighty presence of the Lord and show them Your power. Let them get a glimpse of who You really are and may they bow their knee to the omniscient God who has infinite awareness of their evil deeds. Bring them face to face with the result of what they will have in the end. We ask for peace for the nation Pakistan.

- "Wicked men are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm." (Proverbs 12:7)

2. Afghan Police: 7 Dead In Attack On UN In Kabul - AP

KABUL -- Gunmen attacked a guest house used by U.N. staff in the Afghan capital of Kabul early Wednesday, killing at least eleven people including five U.N. staff, officials said. A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility, saying it was meant as an assault on the upcoming presidential election. Heavy gunfire reverberated through the streets shortly after dawn and a large plume of smoke rose over the city following the attack in the Shar-e-Naw district. Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman said seven people were killed, including some attackers.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in a telephone call to The Associated Press, saying three militants with suicide vests, grenades and machine guns carried out the assault. He said three days ago the Taliban issued a statement threatening anyone working on the Nov. 7 runoff election between President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abbdullah. "This is our first attack."

- Father, we break the spirit of death and violence off the country of Afghanistan by the power of the blood of Jesus. Pull out and cast down this evil spirit. Cover and cleanse the land with the blood of Jesus. And Lord, protect President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abbdullah, and everyone who will be voting in this election. Let there be a fair election and put the man of Your choice in as their next president. In Jesus Name, amen.

- "As righteousness tends to life; so he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death. They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord: but such as are upright in their way are His delight. Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished, but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered." (Proverbs 11:19-21)

3. Pelosi: Health care 'public option' needs new name - AP

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says a government- sponsored public option for health care lives. But it may be going by a different name.

- God, let no deception surrounding this health care bill be hidden. Expose all the works of wickedness and evil associated with this bill. Just as there have been hidden bills within another bill, we declare by the power of God that this health care issue will be cast down under the feet of God. In Jesus Name, amen.

- "Should you help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord." (II Chronicles 19:2)

4. Barney Frank: "We Are Trying On Every Front To Increase The Role Of Government" - Real Clear Politics

Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) says Democrats are "trying on every front to increase the role of government."

- Father, deliver the United States of America from a Socialistic government, where the people are brought under the bondage of a controlling leadership. Bring to naught anything that does not agree with the Word of God. We declare that the people who know their God will do great exploits and deliver our country out of the hands of a wicked and perverse government.

- "The Lord is known by the judgment which He executes: but the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. "Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in Your sight. Put them in fear, O Lord: that the nations may know themselves to be but men." (Psalm 9:16,19-20)

5. UN Investigator Probes US Housing Crisis - Democracy Now

A United Nations investigator has opened a probe into the US housing crisis. Raquel Rolnik, the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, will investigate issues including public housing, homelessness and foreclosures. On Thursday, Rolnik held a public meeting with housing activists in New York. UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing Raquel Rolnik: If we take housing as a human right, you have to go back to the idea that housing is a social issue before and more priority than housing as a commodity, as a financial asset.

As part of her inquiry Rolnik is expected to visit at least six other cities and towns, including Chicago, Los Angeles and New Orleans. (Hear more)

- Father, in Your holy wisdom and understanding You see right to the core of the latent intentions of the UN's investigation into our housing situation. God we ask that You hold them back from plundering our places of residence. Pull back and stretch out Your hands of restraint and say to the UN and all other governmental bodies, "Enough is enough. No more can you rob My people." May they be withdrawn from this plight and restrict them from taking homes from those who own them and do what is right by drawing up other plans to provide for the homeless. In Jesus Name, amen.

- "You, God, prevail forever against them, and they pass: You change their countenance and sent them away." (Job 14:20)

6. Backlash Builds Over Obama's War Against Fox - NewsMax

President Obama's decision to employ bare-knuckled Chicago tactics in his street fight with Fox News has provoked a growing backlash from across the political spectrum that, left unchecked, could complicate his larger agenda, experts warn.

- Father, from this time forth we declare that it is God who is in control of this matter and it is God who will work all things after the counsel of His own will to strengthen the position of that which will be advantageous for the people of the United States. In Jesus Name, amen.

- "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell." (James 3:5-6)

Discerning the Truth Behind The National Emergency

The man who occupies the Oval Office has issued a statement that what he calls the "2009 H1N1 pandemic" constitutes a national emergency. His declaration, issued on Friday, October 23, temporarily waives "certain standard Federal requirements to enable US health care facilities to implement emergency operations plans" and allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to modify certain requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, and State Children's Health Insurance programs. These modifications must be submitted to Congress in writing before they are implemented. While this administration has often trampled the Constitution, this seems more of a scare tactic.

Christians, conspiracy theorists and others are saying that this national emergency declaration is the lynchpin in the socialists' plan to declare martial law in America, shut down the media and ration the food supply while rounding up everyone that disagrees with the Administration and putting them in FEMA concentration camps. In reading the National Emergencies Act and the sections cited by the White House pertaining to the declared emergency, I cannot in my heart of hearts recommend that the current Administration is trying to institute martial law or officially suspend the Constitution with this particular action. Maybe using it for socialized medicine, but not to takeover and rule--at least not yet.

Many have cited several Executive Orders instituted by President John F. Kennedy that declared in the case of a national emergency the US government would take certain measures on telecommunications, agriculture and the military. Kennedy was concerned about a nuclear strike from the Soviets or from Cuba. None of the measures he signed state anything about taking complete government control of the news media, instituting total martial law with the military or rationing food as is in the claims in these emails. Yes, this current Administration and the Bush Administration have done more to undermine the Constitution than any presidencies since FDR, but let us be truthful about what is being done.

As Christians, we have the responsibility to tell the truth. And using scare tactics and passing around erroneous, misinterpreted and outright false assumptions only serves to lesson our credibility when we do try to warn the public. Let us be careful, therefore, not to unduly alarm, but to provide understanding and discernment. The Lord says of the priests of his people in the new temple in Ezekiel 44:23, "And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean." Let us, the keepers of God's word, endeavor to accept this charge.

Update: "Public Option"

Public Option: Trick or Liberal Treat?

When Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced yesterday that he was reviving the government takeover option, people on both sides of the aisle were left wondering-- what's the Majority Leader up to? Ben Pershing of the Washington Post has a few theories. The decision was either: about his home state of Nevada, where a government takeover has been pushed by liberal groups within the state; it's a trick meant to satisfy the far Left; or it's about the moderate Democrats who will be pressured to choose between their constituents and the leadership.

Any way he slices it, Sen. Reid is just short of the 60 votes he needs to pass the plan. Not only would it require a small miracle to overcome the objections of his own party (Sens. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.), Mary Landrieu (La.), and Ben Nelson (Nebr.) are opposed and today Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) threatened to filibuster), but adding the government takeover option could crush the administration's hope for a bipartisan bill.

Of course, the irony is that Congress is already enjoying its own opt-out, since it refuses to participate in whatever plan passes. None of the leaders who vote for this watered down coverage are obliged to enroll in it. Instead Members will force taxpayers into rationed care while they kick back with VIP benefits that most Americans can only dream of.

In Afghanistan . . .

President Dithers While Troops Die

Eleven American troops and three U.S. civilians were killed in Afghanistan Monday in tragic incidents. In one case, our forces won a firefight with Taliban thugs only to perish when their helicopter later crashed. As I write this, there is breaking news of eight more U.S. casualties after bomb attacks in southern Afghanistan. In a speech yesterday at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Florida, President Obama defended his delay in deciding whether to send reinforcements to Afghanistan. He told the audience, "I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm's way. I won't risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary."

That sounds good except for one little detail. He has already sent troops into harm's way in Afghanistan. They are there now in larger numbers with their officers because Barack Obama sent them. This was the "necessary war" that Obama said he supported during the campaign, in contrast to the unnecessary "bad war" in Iraq, which was "Bush's war." Those soldiers and Marines are dying now while their officers continue to beg the president for reinforcements.

In 2008, candidate Obama was a tough guy. In the presidential debate on October 7th, Obama said if he was elected, "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush Al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority." I don't remember the last time Obama mentioned Osama. Neither do I hear much talk about Afghanistan being the "good war" that we have to win.

In fact, the president said in an interview on ABC that he was uncomfortable with the concept of "victory" in Afghanistan. I would wager he is not as uncomfortable as the Marines, special ops troops, soldiers, airmen and others who are putting everything on the line daily while the Obama Administration makes excuses for its failure to make decisions.

I hope the rumor going around Washington is not true - that Obama doesn't want to send more troops before November 3rd because that would so outrage his leftwing base that it may not show up to vote in the important elections in Virginia, New Jersey and New York. The lives of our men and women in uniform are more important than politics.

The clock keeps ticking while the president keeps meeting and golfing. President Bush stopped playing golf when the wars began because he said it sent the "wrong signal." Obama played golf for the 24th time of his presidency last weekend - hitting a mark that took Bush nearly three years to reach. Every White House sends signals, and the signal the enemies of America are getting from this White House is one of vacillation and weakness. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Oct. 27, 2009)

Update - Climate Treaty

UN signals delay in climate change treaty

The United Nations is apparently lowering its expectations about reaching a climate change agreement during an international conference in December.

The director of the secretary-general's Climate Change Support Team cites the lack of U.S. climate legislation, lack of carbon reduction targets from industrialized nations and lack of funding for developing nations. Janos Pasztor says that all makes it hard to say "how far the conference will be able to go."

Pasztor indicated that Copenhagen most likely won't produce a treaty, but instead will push governments as far as they can go on the content of an agreement.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has made a new climate treaty his top priority to replace the expiring Kyoto Protocol, which only requires 37 industrialized nations to cut emissions. (AP; One News Now)

- Continue to make the absolute demise of this wicked treaty the absolute top priority on your own list of prayer requests from now through December. Regardless of any reports that may come out of Copenhagen, we cannot relent in creating the pressure needed in the spirit to see this man-made initiative, leading us into a one-world government, COLLAPSE.

- "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds . . " (2 Corin. 10:4)

WASHINGTON CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY NETANYAHU VISIT

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's intention to visit Washington for the annual UJC General Assembly has surprised many on Capitol Hill and was apparently not coordinated with the Obama administration.

The Obama administration has not yet responded to questions of whether a meeting with Netanyahu was forthcoming due to their surprise over the unscheduled visit. On the other hand, failure to invite Netanyahu to the White House may be perceived as a diplomatic crisis.

Sources in Jerusalem say Netanyahu did indeed decide to attend the GA without first consulting President Barack Obama, but that since the latter would also be present at the event the two may meet in any case.

The sources say a summit between the two leaders would be superfluous at this point in the peace process, and for this reason an official meeting has not been scheduled.

An official statement regarding Netanyahu's visit is scheduled to be published soon in the US, and an unofficial oral announcement has already been given by the Jewish Federations' leaders. The prime minister's visit is scheduled to take place on November 8-10. (Ynet)

- Praise the Lord for P.M. Netanyahu's courage to come to Washington without Obama's express invitation. Pray for Netanyahu's continued statesmanship and strength in whatever he undertakes for Israel. Pray for his protection.

- "Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there; and I have chosen David [Netanyahu] to be over My people Israel." ('2 Chronicles 6:6)

The Daily Brief - Tuesday, October 27, 2009

"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth." (Job 19:25)

The Daily Brief

1. Reid Bets on Public Option - The Hill

The Senate healthcare bill will include a compromise public option that allows states to opt out of a government insurance program. Reid predicted that by the time the CBO issues its cost estimate and the floor debate begins, Democrats will line up together. "I believe we clearly will have the support of my caucus to move to this bill and start legislating," he said.

· Lord, despite the national outcry against this public option and the healthcare bill, the Democrats will not listen. We pray that this bill will not go through. We pray confusion and discord in their plans.

· They shall be ashamed and also disgraced, all of them; they shall go in confusion together, who are makers of idols. (Isaiah 45:16)

2. Obama Says He will Not Rush Afghanistan Decision - (AP)

Despite Republican pressure to act quickly, President Barack Obama says he won't rush his decision about whether to send more troops to Afghanistan where 14 Americans died in the deadliest day for U.S. forces in more than four years. Obama spoke on a day when a U.S. military helicopter crashed while returning from the scene of a fire fight with suspected Taliban drug traffickers in western Afghanistan.

· Heavenly Father, we pray the citizens will rise up and put pressure on the President to send the troops and everything that the generals need. We pray he will not delay.

· With God we will gain the victory, and He will trample down our enemies. (Psalms 60:12)

3 Obama To Sign Gay-Inclusive Hate Crimes Bill Wednesday - ABC News

Last Thursday, senators voted mostly along party lines 68 to 29 in favor of expanding hate crimes legislation to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Democrats stowed away the bill inside the must-pass fiscal year 2010 defense reauthorization bill, a move that rankled some Republicans.

· Heavenly Father, we pray You will block this ungodly bill and all bills that are being passed by these current government officials. Replace quickly these leaders for godly righteous leaders!

· "Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees; who write misfortune, Which they have prescribed." (Isaiah 10:1)

4. Poll: Conservatives Most Dominant Political Group Among Americans - Fox News

Forty percent of Americans surveyed described their political ideology as conservative, while 36 percent said their views were moderate and 20 percent said liberal, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. The findings reportedly mark a shift from 2005 to 2008, when the number of moderates was even with conservatives as the most dominant group.

· Lord, we thank you for this shift in the nations opinion to conservatives. We pray for godly conservatives to win overwhelmingly and govern righteously at the next elections.

· I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. (Exodus 6:7)

5. U.S. Troops Hope Afghanistan Sacrifices Not in Vain - Washington Times

"We're not just numbers," Sgt. Coble said. "I'm not going to say morale is high with everything going on at home. We're here for a reason. This is not a draft military. When people go out on the streets in America and say, 'Bring our troops home,' it infuriates me. Don't go out there talking about bringing our troops home; let us decide when to come back home. We're here because we want our children, my son, to have a safer world, and we know the risks."

· Lord, we pray a thick hedge of protection around the troops. We pray that the nation and our officials will give them support and everything they need in order to win wars.

· "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6)

6. Report: Florida Man Says Home Depot Fired Him for Wearing 'One Nation Under God' Pin - Fox News

Trevor Keezer, 20, whose brother Army Spc. Steven Keezer Jr. is set to return to Iraq in December, said none of his supervisors had anything negative to say about the pin until last month when he began bringing his bible to work, the paper reported. Home Depot spokesman Craig Fishel said Home Depot has its own sanctioned patriotic pins that employees have the option to wear. Keezer said he opted to wear his own pin instead because none of the company's pins mentioned God.

· Father God, we pray this nation will turn back to you and pray those who want to get rid of every mention of your name, to be removed from positions of authority. Give us freedom to practice our religion.

· Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! (Psalms 43:1)

7. Obama Readies Tougher 'Too Big to Fail' Strategy - Reuters

An administration official said the new proposal to Congress would let the government seize control, force shareholders to bear losses, remove management, and restructure debts at non-bank financial firms whose failure could threaten the banking system and economy.

· Lord, we pray against any plans of our government to take over private businesses. We pray for godly regulations but not oppressive control from the government on businesses.

· And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, "We have sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!" (Judges 10:10)

White House to Force Americans Into Partnership With Darkness

The man who occupies the Oval Office has announced that American taxpayers will foot the bill of up to $150 million for Muslim majority countries to have a "transformational impact in these regions such as technology, education, telecom, media, business services and financial technology and clean-tech." The White House says that this fulfills a promise made during the June 4th Cairo speech to Muslims to "launch a new fund to support technological development in Muslim-majority countries." And like the billions the US and other countries have poured into the Palestinian Authority for the same purposes, how much of it will support terrorism and the terrorist infrastructure?

At a time when unemployment in this nation is reaching 10% and the number of those who have given up trying to find a job is far higher, the White House is trying to create jobs within the Muslim community in oil-rich, cash-rich Islamic nations. At a time when separation of church and state is the battle cry among socialists, the White House is making an exception to give hard- earned taxpayer dollars to Islam. Does this mean that it truly doesn't believe Islam is a religion, or does it mean that there is no regard whatsoever for Christians in America who are faced with no jobs and a record $1.4 trillion deficit? Americans should be outraged by this White House announcement.

The only technology Americans know of Islam is its ability to make and improve methods of killing innocent people--roadside bombs, suicide bombs, car bombs and more. The education Islamic nations are providing is the type taught by institutions like the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, Va--teaching jihad, Jews are monkeys, and hate toward the infidels. Telecom might involve using cell phones to blow up suicide bombs; media might be supporting the type of reporting done by al Jazeera. Are American taxpayers to pay for business services development such as prostitution, drugs, human trafficking and mercenaries? Are these funds going to be managed by Sharia Law investment firms?

If the Administration is so dead set on helping the poor Muslims, why not allocate money that will save souls and promote peace? Ministry to Muslims, for example, is a Christian outreach to the Islamic community. Redeemer International School of Ministry has an outreach in Ghana, West Africa to train up pastors to enter rural areas and minister Christ to Muslims. There are countless opportunities to introduce Muslims to the way of peace and eternal prosperity. 2 Corinthians 6:14 asks, "what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness and what communion hath light with darkness?" A corrupt body of evildoers at the White House knows the answer, and it is about to force Americans to partner with darkness.

Public Option = No Option

Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid announced this afternoon that he intends to force a vote on the government-run "public option" because his private discussions with fellow senators indicate there are nearly 60 senators willing to support it in one form or another.

Let me remind you again what the public option is all about. President Obama has said that the public option could force insurance companies to be "honest" and lower costs by having to compete against the federal government. Today, Reid repeated those claims. But, as the AP "fact check" report makes clear, the insurance industry is not reaping "obscene" profits. The real goal is to bankrupt the insurance companies, putting them out of business, thereby making the government-run public option the only option.

Honest advocates of the public option admit that it is the vehicle through which they will achieve government- run socialized healthcare. Read this column and watch the video at the end. And if you need more proof of the public option Trojan horse, watch this video of Barney Frank saying that the public option, with its "strength and power," is the best way to get a socialized single payer system. (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; Oct. 26, 2009)

For HHS, a Senior Moment

Before we entrust Secretary Kathleen Sebelius with health care reform, maybe Americans should take a closer look at how her Department spends other taxpayer dollars. Even the Washington Post called Friday's announcement from Health and Human Services (HHS) an "eye opener," writing that the President's "gay outreach continues." A $1.4 trillion deficit aside, HHS has set aside a quarter million dollars to launch the first-ever National Resource Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders.

Apparently, our nation is never too broke to advance a radical social agenda. The agency released a statement on the Center last week, saying its purpose would be to "help community-based organizations understand the unique needs... of older LGBT individuals and assist them in implementing programs for local service providers..." In the release, HHS regurgitates the Left's propaganda to justify the waste, claiming that "1.5 to 4 million" LGBTs are age 60 and older. In reality, HHS has no idea how many LGBT seniors exist. No one does! The movement is only a few decades old, and people who are 80- or 90-years-old didn't grow up in a culture where it was acceptable to identify with this lifestyle.

Of course, the real tragedy here--apart from the unnecessary spending--is that, given the risks of homosexual conduct, these people are less likely to live long enough to become senior citizens! Yet once again, the Obama administration is rushing to reward a lifestyle that poses one of the greatest public health risks in America. If this is how HHS prioritizes, imagine what it could do with a trillion dollar health care overhaul! (Family Research Council)

Power to the People!

The local newspapers seem to be in a race to lowball the attendance at the D.C. Marriage rally yesterday. Fortunately, the Associated Press did hint at the success of the event, noting that "hundreds" turned out at Freedom Plaza to demand a vote on same- sex "marriage" in the nation's capital. To the chant of "Let the people vote!" Bishop Harry Jackson and the rest of the Stand4MarriageDC coalition talked passionately about the need for a voter referendum on marriage. Monday afternoon, the city's Board of Elections and Ethics was expected to decide whether or not to grant their request.

While that hearing is underway, a second will be held by the City Council and is already predicted to shatter attendance records in D.C., as the District kicks off two days of "marathon sessions" to debate the bill to legalize same-sex "marriage." More than 260 people have signed up to speak at the hearing, which could go well into the morning hours before a second wave of testimonies starts on Tuesday. We'll keep you updated on their progress. In the meantime, you can contribute to the cause at the Stand4Marria geDC website. (Family Research Council)

The Council of the District of Columbia heard from hundreds of people today who signed up to share their opinions on a measure that would legalize gay marriage. Because so many wanted to speak, the Council will hold a second day of hearings Tuesday.

Local pastors are demanding the Council allow D.C. citizens to vote on the issue. Council members say it's a civil-rights issue that doesn't need to be on the ballot.

The ballot initiative was filed by a coalition of pastors and community leaders, including Bishop Harry Jackson of Hope Christian Church in Maryland. Jackson said the text is simple and defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

"The D.C. City Council has stated that their intention is to redefine marriage by going beyond recognizing homosexual marriage performed outside the District to advocating for them to be performed in the District," he said. "The initiative would allow the people of the District to decide this important issue, not a 13-person panel."

Derek McCoy, a member of Stand for Marriage D.C., said a final decision on a ballot measure would be made by the Board of Elections. "They could very well put it on the ballot, or they could deny it, which we suspect they probably will," he said. "You've got to remember, the City Council appoints the Board of Elections."

White Ribbon Week Raises Awareness about Pornography

This week marks the 22nd annual White Ribbon Against Pornography Week. Through Sunday, citizens across the nation will wear white ribbons to raise awareness about the problem of pornography.

Robert W. Peters, president of Morality in Media, said Americans are also asking U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and state prosecutors to vigorously enforce obscenity laws. "This isn't to say that the whole answer to the pornography problem is law enforcement," he said. "Clearly, there's a role for schools, parents, churches and most assuredly, corporate America."

Iranian Missiles Facing Israel

NEW IRANIAN MISSILES FOR GAZA, SYRIA TOPS UP HIZBALLAH'S ROCKET STOCKS

Iran is making a huge effort to smuggle to the Palestinian Hamas Fajr-5 ground-to-ground rockets that bring Tel Aviv within range of the Gaza Strip. DEBKAfile's military sources also disclose that Syria, Iran's second ally with an Israeli border, has decided to transfer one-third of its missile stockpile to the Hizballah in Lebanon, topping up its arsenal with medium-range rockets that can cover central as well as northern Israel, which was heavily blitzed in the 2006 war.

Israel's top strategists are studying these massive missile transfers to hostile entities to find answers to a number of key questions:

1. Syria has destined some 250 surface missiles of its stockpile of 800 for Hizballah. Are they Scuds B, C and D whose ranges exceed 800 kilometers, or Iranian- Syrian made projectiles whose range is shorter?

2. Do the transfers mean Iran and its allies are gearing up for a major Middle East conflict in the months ahead, possibly in early 2010?

3. Will Syria hand over to Hizballah some of its chemicals-tipped missiles?

4. Will some batteries be installed atop the mountain ranges running down central Lebanon, together with air defense systems supplied at the same time by Syria?

Israel is particularly concerned by the Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt's recent decision to turn coat against the pro-Western camp led by Saad Hariri in favor of deals with Tehran and Damascus. Incorporated in these under-the-counter deals are secret military clauses which permit Hizballah to deploy its missiles on highlands of his Druze fief. Israel would think twice at least before attacking areas populated by Druze villages.

In the south, Iran's Revolutionary Guards terrorist arm, the Al Qods Brigades, is bending all its smuggling resources to getting the Fajr-5 missiles into the Gaza Strip, thereby extending Hamas' rocket range to 75 kilometers and central Israel.

According to our intelligence sources, the rockets are traveling by sea from Iran to Hamas training bases in Sudan, dismantled into 8-10 segments , transported to the northern shores of the Gulf of Suez and unloaded in Sinai. From there the segments move through tunnels into the Gaza Strip.

Military sources wonder what the Netanyahu government is doing to halt the missile stranglehold tightening around Israel. Nothing is apparent as yet. (DEBKAfile Exclusive Report)

- Pray over each of these four questions, asking the Lord to intervene so that any and all missile launches will boomerang onto the senders and cause no harm to Israel. Decree that no Iranian missiles, no matter where stored, can reach Israel. Speak confusion into Iran's missile program.

- "Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain." ( Psalm 127:1)
