America is Responding "With Heroism and Heart to Help Houston Recover"

1. "Trump's Reassuring Hurricane Response" - The Wall Street Journal

Former Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Tevi Troy praises President Trump's hurricane response in The Wall Street Journal, writing: "Washington's disaster authorities appear to be in sync with the state on roles and responsibilities; the Federal Emergency Management Agency and its leader, Brock Long, deployed resources as Harvey approached; and the government response as a whole appears well coordinated." Mr. Troy credits the administration's personnel and preparation as key components in the synchronized effort, noting the President has "surrounded himself with leaders experienced in this area." 2. Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts Continue

Yesterday, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump traveled to Texas where they received a briefing on Hurricane Harvey relief efforts with local leadership and relief organizations. The President and the First Lady also met with state leadership at the Emergency Operations Center. (Posted on Wednesday, Aug. 30th.)

3. Statement by First Lady Melania Trump on Hurricane Harvey

"The effects of Hurricane Harvey will be felt in Texas, Louisiana, and other parts of the country for many months and years to come. So far, 1.7 million people are under orders to evacuate their homes, and, as the floodwater in Houston rises, sadly, so will the number of evacuees.

I want to be able to offer my help and support in the most productive way possible, not through just words, but also action. What I found to be the most profound during the visit was not only the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, but the compassion and sense of community that has taken over the State. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people of Texas and Louisiana."

"So this is our once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver real tax reform for everyday hardworking Americans, and I am fully committed to working with Congress to get this job done," Trump said in an address in Springfield, Mo.

"And I don't want to be disappointed by Congress, do you understand me? Do you understand?" Trump said. "I think Congress is going to make a comeback. I hope so," said Trump. "I tell you what, the United States is counting on it."

2. HUD Grants Show High Rates Of Waste - The Daily Caller

A federal program that spends $3 billion annually to combat poverty, provide affordable housing and develop needed public infrastructure is plagued with mismanagement and may be wasting a fourth or more of its annual budget, an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has found.

Nine of the 10 most recent audits of funding awarded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program found serious flaws that allowed significant waste, TheDCNF's analysis found.

The audits questioned how grant recipients spent nearly $39 million of the almost $160 million they received. One of the audits questioned how a recipient spent 69 percent of its expenses. The overall program would waste about $750 million each year if that trend is true for all $3 billion in grants awarded. (Read more)

10. BREAKING! Alabama GOP Senate runoff turns nasty, underdog Moore still leads - Washington Examiner

The Alabama GOP Senate runoff, now less than one month away, has turned nasty, with incumbent Sen. Luther Strange and front-runner former Judge Roy Moore throwing off the gloves for a bare knuckled brawl.

This week, Strange, appointed to the seat vacated by Attorney Jeff Sessions and backed by the GOP establishment and President Trump, threw the first punch in a blast at Moore as "another hypocritical politician."

During the recent GOP primary, won by the conservative Moore, outside groups led the attack with the blessing of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Now Strange is directing the fire against Moore, famous nationally for fighting to keep a monument to the 10 Commandments in the Alabama Judicial Building and against same sex marriage. (Read more)

- Father God, we do lift up this runoff election in prayer, and we thank You that You are the Lord over all elections. We ask for victory for Judge Moore in next month's election, on September 26th. In Your Name, Abba, amen.

Updates: Tropical Storm Harvey

Updates: Tropical Storm Harvey

1. Tropical Storm Harvey Situation Update - August 30, 2017 - Alerts USA

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Harvey will soon weaken to a Tropical Depression. The continued slow weakening is anticipated until the cyclone dissipates completely between 72-96 h. It should be noted that the forecast weakening will not eliminate the risk of continued heavy rainfall and flooding along Harvey's path, although the system's faster motion will keep subsequent rainfall totals well below what occurred over southeastern Texas.

Key Messages:

a. Ongoing catastrophic and life-threatening flooding will continue across southeastern Texas. While the threat of heavy rains has ended in the Houston/Galveston area, catastrophic and life-threatening flooding will continue in and around Houston, Beaumont/Port Arthur, eastward into southwest Louisiana for the rest of the week.

b. The flood threat has spread farther north and east, and additional rainfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with isolated amounts up to 10 inches are expected from southwestern Louisiana and the adjacent border of eastern Texas northeastward into western Kentucky through Friday.

- Father, we thank You that You have heard the cries of Your people, and that this storm is now a tropical depression and continues to weaken hour by hour. We continue to lift up those in its path now in the states that have been named, that they be kept safe from harm, in Your name, amen.

- "The LORD will give strength to His people;
The LORD will bless His people with peace."
(Psalm 29:11)

2. Harvey aftershock: Chemical plant near Houston could explode, CEO says - Fox News

The floodwaters from Harvey and the lack of power are endangering a chemical plant northeast of Houston - its CEO is now worried about an explosion or intense fire.

"We have lost critical refrigeration of the materials on site that could now explode and cause a subsequent intense fire," Arkema president and chief executive Rich Rowe said Wednesday, adding that there was six feet of water at the plant. (Read more)

- Father God, we ask for Your hand of divine intervention to rest upon this situation, so that this chemical plant will not catch fire and explode. We ask for a miracle, in Your Name, amen.

- "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:14)

Hurricane Harvey could be the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history with a potential price tag of $160 billion, according to a preliminary estimate from private weather firm AccuWeather.

This is equal to the combined cost of Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and represents a 0.8% economic hit to the gross national product, AccuWeather said.

"Parts of Houston, the United States' fourth largest city, will be uninhabitable for weeks and possibly months due to water damage, mold, disease-ridden water and all that will follow this 1,000-year flood," said AccuWeather president Joel Myers. (Read more)

Prayers for the Storm

Prayers for the Storm

Note: Once again today, we join forces with the 24/7 National Strategic Prayer Network in offering prayers for all issues regarding this storm. We thank the leadership team of the 24/7 network for their grace in allowing us to share these requests with you.

For Today:

- Lord, thank You for bringing restoration to our people as You establish fresh, new foundations for the State of Texas! Thank You for the over $37 million that has already been distributed to victims, and for the 5 million plus meals served over the past few days. You are indeed Yahweh Yireh, our Provider!

- We ask that those in Texas, Louisiana and other areas hard hit by recent storms feel Your Presence abiding with them. We stand in the gap as we pray for them . . . asking for Your blessings as we repent for our sins on behalf of ourselves and our ancestors, and renounce any and all things displeasing to You. We joyfully include our "neighbors" in Texas and Louisiana in this prayer . . . and cover them in love!

- Father, we repent for building our lives and futures on the foolishness of man . . . sinking sand upon which we cannot not stand. We receive Your Word and want know You, so we might build our lives and families on Solid Ground . . . on the "Rock" which is our Lord, Jesus Christ!

- We ask You to build Godly structure into all of our lives, families, and ministries. Build Your House of Prayer through each of us, based upon love, faith and hope in You. Tear down all ungodly structures built on man's agenda . . . pride . . . rebellion . . . selfish ambition . . . desire for fame, wealth and worship of self. May we together seek to only worship You, the One True God.

- Father, remove all ungodly thoughts from our minds that would bring division or double mindedness. Release us from whatever would keep us from being unified so that we might worship You individually and corporately with our whole beings . . . spirit, soul and body!

- We repent on behalf of those who have resisted Your love and grace, for those who have been offered salvation, yet have not yet received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Help them to recognize You as their ROCK, the Chief Cornerstone instead of considering You a stumbling block or rock of offense.

- Lord, bring us, Your Living Stones, into full alignment with You. Let Your sound and Your frequency vibrate and resonate within us so that we are perfectly in tune with our Lord Jesus Christ and can release the worship that is due to You from this 24/7 NSPC, HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR THE NATION!

- Lord, renew our first love for You, and allowing our "lampstands" to remain full, so that the LIGHT of Christ burns brightly and continuously within us. Shine Your LIGHT through Your people once again and allow them to: ". . . confidently build houses and make them their homes; they will plant vineyards and enjoy their fruit for years to come." (Isaiah 65:21)

1. Israeli rescue experts are heading to hurricane-ravaged Texas do what they do best: rush to the scene of a natural disaster and dig in to help those hit hardest by the storm - United with Israel.org

IsraAID, an Israeli international humanitarian organization, said on Tuesday it was sending a team of experts from Israel and the U.S. to assist Texas residents dealing with the after effects of Tropical Storm Harvey.

IsraAID, which is coordinating with local Jewish communities, local government in Texas and the Israeli Consul General, plans to deploy 5-7 experts to provide two-stage response to the disaster, with the first stage focusing on removing debris and cleaning homes, then offering psychosocial trauma support to residents.

"In crises with large-scale destruction, national and international aid efforts typically focus on practical, physical support, with limited resources allocated to the mental and emotional rehabilitation of affected populations," said Yotam Polizer, co-CEO of IsraAID.

The Israeli sections of the historically Jewish town of Hebron have been officially registered as an Israeli district.

While Jewish roots in Hebron date back literally to the time of Abraham in the biblical era, the modern state of Israel announced on Tuesday that sections of the town will officially be recognized as an Israeli municipality. The move comes 38 years after Jews returned to the area, from which most Jews fled in 1929 after local Arabs carried out a massacre that claimed the lives of close to 70 Jewish men, women and children, wounding scores of other Jews.

40 Days of Repentance

A Guide to 40 Days of Repentance (TESHUVAH)

Written by: B'ney Yosef North America

Saints of God,

As many of us continue to observe the call to TESHUVAH repentance, we are grateful to Laura Densmore for directing us to this guide to prayer.

Each day provides a new prayer focus . . . and today we are on Day 8: The Progression of a Repentant Heart. To read yesterday's guide to prayer, please go here.

These daily devotions for the next 40 days of Elul leading up to Day of Atonement are EXCEPTIONAL, ANOINTED and POWERFUL. Truly it is a season and a call to the remnant in the body of Messiah to TESHUVAH, to repent and return to the God of Israel and to the fullness of HIS TORAH, and to Yeshua, the living Torah who was made flesh.

Different people on the BYNA North America leadership team are contributing each day for the 40 days of repentance.

We also wish to commend to you a Meditation for Day 7, which explains the blessing of TESHUVAH Repentance in detail . . . To read that article, please go here.

A Closing Comment

"Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand." (Matthew 2:3)

" Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts: "Return to Me," says the Lord of hosts, "and I will return to you," says the Lord of hosts." (Zechariah 1:3)

This has been a momentous week in all of our lives, as this truly historic storm has slammed into our nation.

As we all try to regain our balance, we have heard our leaders say that . . .

"This is historic. It's epic, what happened, but you know what - it happened in Texas and Texas can handle anything," . . . "We're going to get you back and operating immediately."
Well, yes, Texas IS a huge state, with many resources, but could it be that this storm, Harvey, is even bigger than that?

Could it be that, without the help of our Almighty God, we are indeed helpless before this "monster?"

Could it be that, finally, the time has come to repent?

As we come before our Lord on bended knee, in repentance, it will be through His grace and through His grace alone that we shall survive this catastrophe and carry on.
Please join us in prayer . . .
"Father, we thank You for the promise of Your word, because it is written:

. . . If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer as we repent before you of our own wicked ways and return to Your Throne of grace for cleansing, for healing, for renewal and for restoration, in Your mighty Name, amen."

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God."
