1. Putin Named Most Powerful Person in World by Forbes - RIA Novosti
Russian President Vladimir Putin was named the most powerful person on the planet by Forbes magazine Wednesday, knocking US President Barack Obama off the number one spot.
- Lord, what a travesty that an American president has become such a joke in the eyes of the world. We pray for Your Holy Spirit to overtake him, and like Nebuchadnezzer of old, bring him to a place of understanding.
-"Let his heart be changed from man's - that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He chooses" [Daniel 4:16-17]
2. White House begins pushback against Senate sanctions bill on Iran - Jerusalem Post
New Senate proposal would seek to halve Iran's remaining oil exports; Obama administration argues against timing of the bill that if given a vote, would likely pass with bipartisan support.
- Lord, we pray that You will guide the votes of our legislators and break off all assignments of the enemy that would promote Iran's nuclear proliferation.
- "Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is the truth." [Psalm 119:142]
3. Sebelius rejects enrolling in Obamacare exchanges - Washington Times
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius rejected calls from Republicans Wednesday to enroll in one of the Obamacare marketplaces, saying she is happy with the coverage she gets as a federal employee.
- Father, let the pressure from You AND Congress never let up on these officials and the president who think they are above the law and the people. We ask for a repentant heart - but failing - we ask for removal from office.
- "Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy." [Psalm 126: 4-5]
4. Clapper contradicts White House, says Obama was aware of spying on allies -Washington Times
America's top intelligence official acknowledged Tuesday that President Obama and other senior White House officials were well aware of U.S. surveillance activities targeting leaders of friendly foreign nations -- a stark contradiction of the administration's insinuation in recent days that the president was unaware of such spying.
- Lord, the lies, the deception, the foolish actions of our leadership are more than we can bear. We ask for Your intervention and help to bring America back to Your heart.
-"My soul, wait only upon God; for my expectation is from Him." [Psalm 62:5]

Five Days on the Ground with Syrian Christians - The Catholic World Report
As civil war continues to rage in Syria, Christian communities with ancient roots in the country stand in the crossfire between the Syrian government and the rebel forces. Below is an account of several days in the war zone from Father Daniel Maes, O.Praem., a Belgian priest who has been at the Carmelite Monastery of Mar Yakub in Qara, Syria for several years. In it he details the efforts of Mother Agnes-Mariam de la Croix, the Lebanese-born superior of the Mar Yakub nuns, to free hostages taken by the rebels and to negotiate peace. Father Daniel's account appears in Italian at the blog Ora Pro Siria.
Saturday, October 12
At 11 am Mother Agnes-Mariam and Sister Carmel went to Muadamiyet-al-Cham, on the outskirts of Damascus, together with the rescue team of the Red Crescent, along with Ms. Kinda al-Shamat, the Minister of Social Affairs, and with the army. Twelve snipers were ensconced above the arcades that lead into the city. Mother Agnes-Mariam swept up a white flag and headed with determination, along with Sister Carmel, toward a group of about 40 leaders of the armed rebel bands that have been kidnapping thousands of ordinary people. . . Now these armed bands were also threatening. . . to block off all food supplies. The ensuing confusion was indescribable, with shots being fired and shouts ringing out about how no one was to leave the place alive.
So Mother Agnes-Mariam tells Sister Carmel to pray and they begin to invoke the name of Jesus. Suddenly there is silence, and there is an opening for negotiations over the liberation of the hostages. It isn't until around 4 pm that they regain their freedom. Some are numb with fear and the children are very weak. The soldiers kiss the elderly people on their foreheads as a sign of respect. Everyone hugs Mother Agnes-Mariam. The weakest are brought to the ambulances, the others are put on buses, to be taken to a school building in Damascus, where Governor Hussein Khallouf has readied the necessary care. Two thousand people have been freed. All have lost their ID cards. Tomorrow 1,500 more civilians and a group of 80 soldiers will be waiting to be liberated. Besides all this, somehow the armed groups have to be coaxed into laying down their weapons. And meanwhile, the terrorists have kidnapped two more people. The way home is still riddled with roadblocks, set up by the National Army, by the Free Army, and by the terrorists. As they struggle to get through the roadblocks, 12 more people are taken hostage and more negotiations are needed to set them free.
Sunday, October 13
Today 1,500 more civilians have been set free, and all has been caught on film and documented by the TV.
Monday, October 14
Trouble. These operations are very risky, and not everyone feels up to the risk.
Tuesday, October 15
The situation is getting better and there is hope for a liberation.
Wednesday, October 16
They're ready: 35 buses, 10 ambulances, and about 30 volunteers have come to evacuate from 1,000 to 2,000 people. Mother Agnes-Mariam and Sister Carmel are already on their way to the city, when, 200 meters away from them, a bomb is dropped into the street, wounding a few children. The army orders everyone back. The ambulances and buses leave, still empty.
There are many signs that Syria will rise up again, slowly but surely. . . Moses led the "People of God" to the Promised Land after a long trip through the desert. This Exodus was the most important event in the history of Israel, and also the prototype for all liberations.
Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel, Son of God, and savior of the world, in the role of a new and final Moses, has given the deepest sense to this liberation by his death on the cross and his resurrection.
This is our faith. And we believe and trust that now too He will be the final Liberator of Syria.

Commentary: Presidential Leadership
For a leader, knowing what is going on where and when in your organization is as natural as drinking a glass of water. A real leader monitors what is going on at all levels during an action. That is, he must know what is being done where, when and why. And if for some reason he doesn't know, he goes to wherever he must and finds out. . .
About the Obamacare rollout the President says, "No one could be more frustrated than I am and this isn't smooth." The American people don't give a care whether he is frustrated or not. His state of mind is irrelevant. The question is what is he going to do to relieve the American people's frustration.
If he must personally go to the website headquarters, take charge of the operations and stay there until they are fixed, that is what he should do. That is leadership. Someone can bring him in a cot for sleeping and I'm sure McDonald's would be happy to feed him for free. . .
Leadership matters. The American people have been waiting for five years for the President to deliver to them Obamacare. He and his minions have huffed and puffed, and shilly-shallyied and delivered nothing. It is time they called in Amazon.com and let the adults take charge.

A Warning from a Retired Army Officer
Retired Army officer warns:
DHS preparing for war against American citizens
March 23, 2013
On Saturday, Terry M. Hestilow, a retired United States Army Captain from Fort Worth, Texas, posted a letter on Facebookthat he wrote to Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, warning that the Department of Homeland Security is preparing to go to warwith the citizens of the United States.
"It is with gravest concern that I write to you today concerning the recent appropriation of weapons by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that can only be understood as a bold threat of war by that agency, and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America," his letter began.
The retired officer expressed deep concerns over "recent purchases of almost 3,000 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) armored personnel carriers, 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition (with associated weapons), and other weapons systems."
Capt. Hestilow added a statement that Barack Obama made during his 2008 campaign:
"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've gotta (sic) have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded [as the United States military]," he said.
He also accused the administration of "deliberately defunding, overextending, and hollowing the Department of Defense," which he said is the "only legitimate agency" with the mission of conducting combat operations.
In his letter, Capt. Hestilow called on Congress to demand that the DHS surrender their weapons systems to the Defense Department. He also accused the DHS of enforcing the "tyrannical acts of this president" and said lawmakers should dissolve the agency "as soon as possible."
"One needs only to look to the rise of Adolf Hitler, and his associated DHS organizations, the SA and the SS, of 1932-1934, to see the outcome of allowing an agency of government this kind of control over the free citizens of a nation," he added.
Capt. Hestilow said that Americans cannot "be so naïve" as to think that what happened in Germany cannot happen here.
Earlier in the week, Capt. Hestilow asked his Facebook followers who the DHS intends to kill with the weapons and ammunition that it has recently purchased. "Short answer," he wrote. "You and me! Anyone they think is standing in their way to impose a new Marxist government! Anyone who stands for the U.S. Constitution!" "If I live and still have a page to speak out on later this week, I will discuss a proper Constitutional response in a couple of days. Standby. Out," he wrote on Thursday.
Capt. Hestilow ended his strongly-worded letter with a simple declaration: "We refuse to surrender our Constitution or our nation!"

Pennsylvania Bill to Display "In God We Trust" in Schools Clears House Panel
Pennsylvania)-A state measure that would require school discricts to post the national motto of "In God We Trust" in every school building, passed the state House Education Committee this week by a vote of 14-9.
The bill is known as the National Motto Display Act, and is sponsored by Rep. Rick Saccone, who notes that his constituency supports the measure.
"It's 500-1 back home, people are for it," he said.
"This isn't about evangelizing," Saccone added. "This is about celebrating our national motto."
"In God We Trust" has been the national motto since 1956, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed it into law.
The Pennsylvania measure will, no doubt, come under fire from atheist groups the further it advances through legislation, but "with God all things are possible." (Breaking Christian News)
