Focus on Israel

1. Polls show Gantz could defeat Netanyahu if he heads joint list with Lapid - Times of Israel

Former IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz's Israel Resilience party soared in opinion polls taken Wednesday, a day after he made his maiden political speech, indicating he constitutes a potent threat to the re-election hopes of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Polls taken for Hadashot TV news and Channel 13 news both showed Gantz's party closing in on Netanyahu's Likud ahead of the April 9 elections, though still 6-9 seats behind the ruling party. Potentially of more significance, the Hadashot poll showed that a Gantz-headed alliance with Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid party would win 35 seats to the Likud's 30. In such a scenario, Hadashot said, Gantz could be well-placed to form Israel's next coalition government.

2. Bill that Allows States to Boycott Companies Boycotting Israel Moves Forward - Christian Headlines

The U.S. Senate is pushing forward a Middle East bill that would put in place new sanctions on Syria. The bill would allow state and local governments to stop doing business with companies who are boycotting Israel.

"The Senate will once again move to take up our bill to support Israel, give local and state governments the right to boycott BDS and punish human rights abuses in Syria," tweeted Sen. Marco Rubio, who introduced the bill to Congress. "Democrats said they were blocking it until [the] shutdown ended. So, no excuse not to move to it now."

3. Minister threatens to ban Amnesty over settlement tourism report - Times of Israel

Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan threatened to ban Amnesty International from Israel on Wednesday after the rights group accused Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia and TripAdvisor of profiting from "war crimes" by offering accommodation in settlements.

"Amnesty International, that hypocritical organization that speaks in the name of human rights, is acting to promote a boycott of Israelis as part of a campaign of anti-Semitic delegitimization," Erdan said.

Erdan, whose Strategic Affairs Ministry is responsible for combating the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, called for a boycott of Airbnb last year after it said it would stop listing homes in West Bank settlements. The company faced legal action by settlement home owners in court in the US and apparently never implemented its declared move.

4. US aid to PA security forces to end this week - Israel National News

US aid to the Palestinian Authority's security services will end this week at the PA's request, senior PLO official Saeb Erekat said Wednesday, according to AFP.

The move is meant to preempt lawsuits over alleged support for terrorism.

The PA has demanded the funding stop at the end of January for fear it could expose the PA to costly lawsuits under the US Anti-Terrorism Clarification Act (ATCA), which comes into force on February 1.

"The money will be cut off," Erekat told AFP, adding, "We don't want to receive any money if this will take us to court."

The ATCA legislation passed by Congress last year provides for any government that receives funding to be subject to US counterterrorism laws.

5. Minor riot as thousands of Ethiopian-Israelis rally against police brutality - Times of Israel

Thousands of Israelis protested against alleged police brutality and rampant discrimination towards the Ethiopian-Israeli community at a demonstration in Tel Aviv Wednesday evening, called after a young Ethiopian Jew was shot dead by a cop earlier this month.

The rally at Rabin Square, which followed a march that shuttered major thoroughfares and junctions, turned violent when a few dozen of the protesters began a vandalism spree down Ibn Gabirol Boulevard.

Police described the rioters as a "a small minority" and said six police officers had been lightly wounded trying to quell the disturbances. Eleven of the protesters were arrested.

The Daily Brief

1. Two Injured In Official Government Motorcade Accident Outside The White House After Protester Leaps In Front Of Vehicle And Is Brought Down By The Secret Service - Baltimore Jewish Life

Two people have been injured in an accident involving an official motorcade outside the White House. The incident happened at around 2.15pm when a protester jumped in front of the vehicle and was brought down by a Secret Service officer.

It reported that the protester was hurt along with a Secret Service agent. The extent of their injuries was unclear but neither was thought to have required an ambulance. The Secret Service would not confirm who was in the motorcade at the time of the incident. (See second article for motorcade participants.) > > > Read more.

- Father, we give You thanks that this incident did not result in serious injury. We lift up our Secret Service agents and pray for Your angelic help to alert them about dangerous situations and people.

- The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them. (Psalm 34:7)

2. Protesters rush Beijing delegation as US-China trade war talks start with meeting between VP Liu He and USTR Robert Lighthizer - South China Morning Post

China's trade delegation was given a jolting start to its visit to Washington on Wednesday when it was confronted by Chinese protesters en route to the site of the first of two days of high-stakes negotiations. The demonstrators rushed the delegation as it left Washington's Willard Hotel. Video footage of the scuffle shows one woman being knocked down by security personnel.

The delegation, led by China's Vice-Premier Liu He, soon arrived at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the White House, where cabinet ministers will spend two days trying to narrow the gap in the countries' positions in a trade war that is in its seventh month.

The dramatic start to the Chinese delegation's visit continued at lunchtime, when a protester crossed police lines and tried to approach the team's motorcade as it returned to the Willard. NBC reported that a police officer was injured by the protester, who was arrested. (Read more)

To see how the press in China is reporting on these talks and the protests, go here.

- Father, we pray these incidents with protestors will not hinder diplomatic relations or trade negotiations with China. We ask for a breakthrough between our nations and an agreement that is good for all the people.

- Therefore strong peoples will honor you; cities of ruthless nations will revere you. (Isaiah 25:3)

3. Hannity on Stone arrest: 'We've lost our country. Say goodbye' - WND

If the pre-dawn raid of Roger Stone's home by FBI agents in tactical gear with weapons drawn is a sign of things to come, America has lost its constitutional republic, contends Fox News television and radio host Sean Hannity.

"We are a democratic republic. The Constitution that we cherish so much is the foundation of all law and order in this country. If you don't apply the laws equally, only going after one group of people because of their political views, and you protect people with other political views, you've lost our Constitution. We've lost our country," said Hannity in an opinion piece compiled by FoxNews.com from his radio show.

"Without equal application of our laws and equal justice under the law, there's one thing left to say to our great nation: Goodbye." Citing Obama administration scandals such as Fast and Furious, the IRS targeting conservatives and Hillary Clinton's missing emails," Hannity said, referring to the arrest and indictment of Stone, "it's good to know the feds finally got their man." (Read more)

- Father, it is clear those in power wanted to send a message with this unnecessary, pre-dawn raid of Roger Stone's home, harassment of his wife, and media involvement. We pray for true justice in our land, the equal application of the law, and the removal of every corrupt government employee.

- The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the Lord our God will destroy them. (Psalm 94:21-23)

4. First NY, Now Virginia: Democrat Proposes Bill Pushing to Abort Babies 'Just Seconds Before' Birth - CBN News

Virginia Democratic Delegate Kathy Tran proposed a bill this week to allow a woman to have an abortion while she is in labor and just moments away from giving birth. House Bill 2491, also known as The Repeal Act, would remove all existing restrictions on abortion in Virginia.

According to a bill summary, it removes the requirement that late-term abortions be performed in a hospital, that an ultrasound is given beforehand, and that at least two physicians "certify that a third-trimester abortion is necessary to prevent the woman's death or impairment of her mental or physical health."

Tran engaged in a heated exchange with subcommittee chairman Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) on the Virginia Delegate House floor Monday. For now, the subcommittee recommended The Repeal Act to be laid on the table. It is not expected to pass the Republican-held Senate. (Read more)

> > > Several states have now offered "copycat bills" based on the abomination that was passed last week in the New York State Assembly. Please be on the lookout for a listing of these states and their bills, to be published this Saturday on our Legislative Snapshot. Thank you.

- Father, even the proposal of this Act shows us how far we have fallen from Your standards. We ask for Your forgiveness for Kathy Tran and pray for her repentance. Help her understand the value of life and be transformed in her thinking.

- Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

5. Senator Sasse Tells Virginia Governor To 'Get The Hell Out Of Public Office' Over Abortion Remarks - Daily Caller

Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse reacted to comments Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam made Wednesday morning, telling the governor that he shouldn't serve in government if he supports leaving babies to die after they've been born.

Northam, in a Wednesday morning interview, couldn't precisely answer whether he supports abortion until birth and suggested an infant could be born and then the mother and doctor could discuss what should happen next, The National Review reported.

"I don't care what party you're from - if you can't say that it's wrong to leave babies to die after birth, get the hell out of public office," Sasse said. Aborting a baby after it's born is illegal. Seventy-five percent of Americans support significant abortion restrictions and say abortion should not be legal after a woman is three months pregnant, according to a Jan.15 Marist poll. (Read more)

- Father, we ask You to remove every person with government authority who thinks it should be legal to end the lives of viable 3rd trimester infants and newborns.

- "But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever." (Exodus 14:13)

6. Eyes on Kavanaugh and Gorsuch as Supreme Court weighs whether Louisiana abortion law can go into effect - CNBC

Two doctors in Louisiana are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to grant an emergency stay of a law they say could cripple access to abortions in the state. The law requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of their clinic. It would leave only one doctor in a single clinic to provide abortions in a state where 10,000 women seek the procedure each year, according to the plaintiffs.

In an application submitted on Monday to Justice Samuel Alito and expected to be reviewed by the full court, the unnamed physicians, represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights, asked the court to prevent the law from going into effect, as it is scheduled to do next week. Alito on Tuesday gave Louisiana two days to respond to the application.

The case could prove to be a test of President Donald Trump's two nominees to the high court. Five justices are required to grant an emergency stay, if the full court acts on the matter, so at least one of the court's five conservatives will have to join the liberal wing in order to prevent the Louisiana law from going into force. (Read more)

- Father, we lift up Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh and pray they will make a stand for life by denying this emergency stay.

- Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
(Hosea 10:12)

7. Ruth Bader Ginsburg watch nears the end of its second month - American Thinker

It has been 54 days since the public laid eyes on the 85-year-old Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and her absence is prompting calls for proof of life. The last time she was seen was on December 6, 2018, when she heard arguments in person at the Court.

Since then, she underwent surgery on December 21 of last year after two cancerous growths from her left lung were discovered and removed. All official statements have been issued by people close to her and meant to assure the public that she is recovering quietly.

However, RBG has missed oral arguments this month for the first time in her 25-year career on the bench, and it is raising anxieties about how well and if she is recovering. It has been reported that the White House is taking steps toward preparing a short list of Supreme Court nominees in the event of Justice Ginsburg's death or departure.

Adding even more fuel to the speculation, Fox & Friends "accidentally" showed a memorial graphic that claimed that Ginsburg is dead. The show apologized shortly after and blamed it on a "control room error," but it's worth noting that the graphic even being made and loaded is a disturbing, macabre preparation.

She was scheduled to attend a function called "An Evening with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg" in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening at the Skirball Cultural Center, but the event was "regrettably canceled" because she is still recuperating from her recent surgery. A second engagement on February 6 with her and philanthropist David Rubenstein in New York City was also canceled. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Ruth Bader Ginsburg's status will become known in Your timing.

- Better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men; and the living will take it to heart. (Ecclesiastes 7:2)

8. Trump Super PAC Launches Seven-Figure Angel Mom Ad Buy Pushing for Border Wall: 'My Separation is Permanent' - Breitbart

President Donald Trump's Super PAC, America First Policies, has launched a seven-figure ad buy targeting several top Democrats in Congress with a message from Angel Mom Michelle Root, whose daughter Sarah was murdered by an illegal alien in 2016.

The digital ad buy, Breitbart News has learned, is part of a broader $1.1 million campaign that will target key lawmakers in states across the country, specifically in Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Alabama, urging constituents in those states to call their representatives and senators to push for funding for President Trump's planned wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.

In the ad that America First is airing, Root's mother names her daughter's killer Edwin Mejia. According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Most Wanted website, Mejia remains at-large on the run from authorities after he killed Sarah Root.

Michelle Root's plea to the public is that America sees the effects of illegal immigration. "I want the American people to see what devastation illegal aliens cause," she says in the America First Policies ad. "My separation is permanent. I want to see that wall built." (Read more)

> > > See also: "Donald Trump introduced us to "angel moms." Here's why they matter." (Go here.)

- Father, we pray this poignant ad will put things in perspective, shifting public opinion to value the safety of U.S. citizens. We ask You, Lord, to lead and guide our legislators and provide President Trump with a Border Security bill he can sign.

- May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem. (Psalm 51:18)

9. Shock poll: Democratic swing districts back wall, Trump immigration offer - Washington Examiner

Voters in congressional districts that President Trump won in 2016 but flipped Democratic last November support his border wall and believe Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi should have accepted his immigration deal to end the partial government shutdown.

A poll of 10 representative districts, some of which Trump won by a big margin but then voted a Democrat into office in 2018, also found that a plurality approve of the president's job performance, 49 percent to 48 percent.

The Public Opinion Strategies survey done for the Republican National Committee provided some hope for the president and GOP messaging on the border wall. The survey found that voters in districts in New York, Minnesota, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Maine, Virginia and New Jersey believe that Trump's immigration compromise dismissed by Pelosi should have been accepted in the shutdown struggle. And it found that more voters believe Trump "has been more open to compromise on this issue than congressional Democrats." (Read more)

- Father, we pray this poll will help our legislators understand the need to compromise and fulfill the will of the people.

- He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. (Proverbs 11:26)

10. Liberals outraged as Trump endorses Bible literacy classes in public schools - LifeSiteNews

President Donald Trump raised a lot of eyebrows Monday by endorsing biblical literacy education in public schools, earning praise from socially-conservative supporters and scorn from secular critics. Legislation is currently pending in at least six states that would encourage public schools to offer elective courses on the Bible's historical and literary significance.

Backed by groups such as the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation, National Legal Foundation, and WallBuilders, the bills are meant to recognize that "the Bible is an integral part of our society and deserves a place in the classroom," according to North Dakota GOP state Rep. Aaron McWilliams. The president spoke out in favor of the push Monday, tweeting it was "great" to give students "the option of studying the Bible."

Supporters of the proposed courses stress that the courses are options that won't be forced on any student, and argue that students of all faiths should have an understanding of how biblical principles shaped the thinking of America's Founding Fathers. (Read more)

- Thank You, Lord, for President Trump's encouragement to have our children read and understand the Word of God in our public and private schools. We pray his influence will bring many people into Your Kingdom.

- Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. (Deuteronomy 4:9)

11. Tampa Counseling Ban Enjoined - Liberty Counsel

A federal magistrate judge issued a 38-page report and recommended that Liberty Counsel's preliminary injunction be granted against a Tampa ordinance which prohibits licensed counselors from providing talk therapy to minors seeking to reduce or eliminate unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors, or identity. Liberty Counsel represents Robert Vazzo, LMFT, David Pickup, LMFT, New Hearts Outreach ministry, and their minor clients.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Amanda Sansone wrote in her detailed and well-reasoned Report and Recommendation that the Tampa Ordinance 2017-47 should be enjoined because the plaintiffs demonstrated that the law violates each and every test of the First Amendment. The plaintiffs demonstrated that the ordinance is unconstitutional because it is (1) a content restriction that is not narrowly tailored; (2) a viewpoint discrimination; (3) unconstitutionally overbroad; (4) a prior restraint; and (5) unconstitutionally vague. (Read more)

- Father, we give You thanks and praise for this wonderful victory. Please continue to bless the work of The Liberty Counsel, in Your name, amen.

- "My mouth will declare the praise of the LORD . . . " (Psalm 145:21)

Prophetic war drums of Iran against Israel

The US intent to pull out of Syria has changed the political dynamics in the Middle East. There are several prophetic aspects in play. With Syria being a vassal state of Iran, two named end time agents are under the influence of events that impact nearby Israel. Add in Turkey, who wishes to emerge as the Islamic leader in the Middle East, and we have yet another player in end time prophecy. Russia is also a power broker as an ally with Iran, Syria and Turkey. Agents of each-Hamas, Hezbollah, and to whatever extent it remains, ISIS-are anti-Israel terrorist groups also adding to the mix. Now, Iran is beginning to rattle the swords of war. We now have modern nations aligning with those of ancient prophecy.

According to ASHARQ Al-AWSAT, an Arab world news site, Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri announced Sunday that Iran will change its military strategy to "offensive" from "defensive" to defend its national interests. This means that Iran will act offensively to defend Syria against Israel using such things as preemptive strikes and other military actions that Iran regards as a threat. This offensive strategy also could apply to Turkey, if that country moves against the Kurds in what is now a "safe zone" in Syrian territory. The stirrings here are made very interesting by the Isaiah 17:1 prophecy that "Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap."

The Times of Israel adds another piece to the end time puzzle being assembled before our very eyes, reporting, "The deputy head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Monday that Tehran's strategy was to eventually wipe Israel off the "global political map." Asked by a reporter in Tehran about Israeli threats to strike Iranian forces deployed in Syria, Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami was quoted by Iranian news outlets as saying, "Our strategy is to erase Israel from the global political map. And it seems that, considering the evil that Israel is doing, it is bringing itself closer to that . . . We announce that if Israel does anything to start a new war, it will obviously be the war that will end with its elimination, and the occupied territories will be returned. The Israelis will not have even a cemetery in Palestine to bury their own corpses.""

We know that Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38 (which says Gog of Magog (in Turkey) will lead a coalition of forces against Israel "in that day") are end time prophecies by the context of the preceding chapters and those after them. There are many details that must fall in place, not the least of which the Beast (Gog/Assyrian/antichrist) will be revealed before the Day of the Lord occurs. Notwithstanding, this situation in Syria is progressing the dynamics of prophecy and bears watching. We are so caught up with the politics in the United States, that we may be missing key elements of these end time prophecies falling into place. Christ enumerates the chronological order of the end times in Matthew 24. He said there will be wars and rumors of wars. We are not there yet, but the prophetic war drums are sounding in the distance.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

The Daily Jot Staff

FRC Message to Speaker Pelosi

Tell Speaker Pelosi to Stop the Assault on America's Christian Heritage.

Dear Friends,

News recently broke that the new Democrat majority in the U.S. House of Representatives attempted to remove "so help you God" from the oath witnesses take at the beginning of Congressional testimony. The House Committee on Natural Resources was working on their committee rules for the new 116th Congress, and had removed "so help you God" from the oath, so that it reads: "Do you solemnly swear or affirm, under penalty of law, that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?" No reference to God or a higher power. After public outrage, the Committee chairman reversed course and allowed "so help you God" to stay.

Despite being fixed, this should never have been contemplated. You may recall that during the 2012 Democrat Platform Committee, the DNC added "God" back into the platform during the convention only to be booed. It may not be popular to the Democrat delegates, but at least it was added back in. The new Democrat controlled Congress wasted no time in showing the Left's distain for God and for America's Christian heritage. Therefore, we must not waste any time in responding to their assault and letting them know efforts like this to undermine America's Christian heritage will not be tolerated by the American people.
Please sign this petition to affirm the importance of keeping God in our public life.
Standing (Eph. 6:13),

Tony Perkins

About New York City

Sara,

When I came home from Wednesday night prayer ---

This came to me.

Death is riding over New York City on a pale horse.

Rev. 6:8: "And I looked, and behold a pale horse; and his name that say on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."

HAIL THE DAY THAT SEES HIM RISE

"After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into Heaven, and He sat at the right hand of God." (Mark 16:19)

Lyrics

Hail the day that sees Him rise, Alleluia! To His throne above the skies, Alleluia! Christ, awhile to mortals given, Alleluia! Reascends His native heaven, Alleluia!

There the glorious triumph waits, Alleluia! Lift your heads, eternal gates, Alleluia! Christ hath conquered death and sin, Alleluia! Take the King of glory in, Alleluia!

Circled round with angel powers, Alleluia! Their triumphant Lord, and ours, Alleluia! Conqueror over death and sin, Alleluia! Take the King of glory in! Alleluia!

Him though highest Heav'n receives, Alleluia! Still He loves the earth He leaves, Alleluia! Though returning to His throne, Alleluia! Still He calls mankind His own, Alleluia!

See! He lifts His hands above, Alleluia! See! He shows the prints of love, Alleluia! Hark! His gracious lips bestow, Alleluia! Blessings on His church below, Alleluia!

Still for us His death He pleads, Alleluia! Prevalent He intercedes, Alleluia! Near Himself prepares our place, Alleluia! Harbinger of human race, Alleluia!

Master, (will we ever say), Alleluia! Taken from our head to day, Alleluia! See Thy faithful servants, see, Alleluia! Ever gazing up to Thee, Alleluia!

Grant, though parted from our sight, Alleluia! Far above yon azure height, Alleluia! Grant our hearts may thither rise, Alleluia! Seeking Thee beyond the skies, Alleluia!

Ever upward let us move, Alleluia! Wafted on the wings of love, Alleluia! Looking when our Lord shall come, Alleluia! Longing, gasping after home, Alleluia!

There we shall with Thee remain, Alleluia! Partners of Thy endless reign, Alleluia! There Thy face unclouded see, Alleluia! Find our heaven of heavens in Thee, Alleluia!

'Thousands' Attend Funeral of Air Force Veteran With No Family

Over the weekend, a Texas cemetery asked the public to attend the funeral of an Air Force veteran because it appeared that no one was expected to attend.

The call went out when the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery said it could not locate the man's family and did not want him to be buried alone, according to Fox News. The story went viral on social media, with many including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and CNN host Jake Tapper calling attention to it and asking people to attend the funeral.
