Praying the Word of God . . .
in the Will of God . . .
over the Issues of the Day

(Isaiah 55:11)

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

"I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting . . ." (I Timothy 2:8)

The Daily Brief

1. Government shuts down as lawmakers miss funding deadline - The Hill

Congress missed a midnight deadline to avert a shutdown of the federal government, as the Republican-led House and the Democratic-led Senate battled through the night on legislation to keep the lights on. (Read more)

- Today, 800,000 federal workers are temporarily without jobs; and only our Lord knows when they will be fully employed again. As this government now seems to be suspended, we rest in the assurance that "the government rests upon His shoulder," and that our Lord can and will provide for those who are "without" tonight, as their hearts now turn to Him for help. Call forth Romans 8:28 over this entire matter, and thank our Lord that His government will know no end. In His Name, amen!

- "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. . . Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end . . ." (Isaiah 9:6,7)

2. House GOP to move piecemeal funding bills - The Hill

Obama Threatens Veto House Republicans on Tuesday will move to re-open small portions of the federal government, bringing up bills to fund the National Park Service, part of the Department of Veterans Affairs and operations for the District of Columbia. Party leaders announced the plan to their members during a closed-door meeting at the Capitol on Tuesday afternoon, some 13 hours after the federal government shut down amid a budget impasse. (Read more)

- We continue to take up the Word of God as a "hammer" to tear down the dividing wall between members of the two parties, that they might resolve their differences and come to an agreement, finding common ground upon which to negotiate. We ask, too, that the Spirit of the Lord would move upon those whose hearts have been hardened to support Obamacare, that they would agree to at least delay its implementation for at least another year. In His Name, we pray, amen.

- "Is not my word like fire," declares the Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" (Jer. 23:29) "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26)

3. Wall Street braces for volatility as government shutdown looms - Reuters

As a last-minute deal to resolve spending negotiations in Washington appeared less likely, U.S. stock investors braced for what had previously seemed remote: a shutdown of the U.S. government that could spark a major equity decline.

- Lord, we pray that through this experience, people will come to trust in You, the living God, and not in the uncertainty of riches. We do pray for revelation for the right solutions to the shutdown. We pray for provision and protection for Your people. In the name of Jesus we ask, amen.

- "Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they amy lay hold on eternal life." (I Timothy 6:17-18)

4. US sending bankrupt Detroit $300 million. Think 'stimulus,' not 'bailout.'Yahoo

The Obama administration is pledging nearly $300 million in federal dollars to Detroit to help shore up basic infrastructure priorities, such as improving public transit and police and eradicating blight. Just don't call it a bailout - a term that's still toxic on Capitol Hill, on both sides of the aisle.

- Lord, it seems our leadership is spending money that it does not have to attempt to keep a city functioning when it is questionable if this should be attempted. When a nation has the level of debt that the US has, it cannot just give as 'Stimulus' many millions of dollars to all the towns and cities which have not correctly managed their budget. Individual citizens do not have this kind of option. Instead they lose out and have to rebuild. Why should towns and cities be exceptions, Lord? We ask in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches." (Proverbs 24:3-4)

5. United Nations Security Council unanimously votes to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons - Jerusalem Post

The 15 members of the UN Security Council unanimously passed a draft resolution on eliminating Syria's chemical weapons on Friday night.

- Lord, we pray that Assad will take warning from the unanimous votes and do what is necessary to save people from death from chemical weapons. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

- "But he who takes warning will save his life." (Ezekiel 33:5)

6. Kerry says more than words needed to ease Iran sanctions - Times of Israel

US Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday said an agreement with Iran over its controversial nuclear program could be reached within a three-to-six-month time frame, but said the regime in Tehran would have to prove its intentions through actions.

- Lord, we pray for John Kerry and this agreement with Iran. We pray for an honest and varifiable agreement with safeguards of protection. Let us not walk with Iran unless such an agreement can be accomplished. We pray for Holy Spirit direction and wisdom as this proceeds. In the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

- "Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (Amos 3:3)

7. Pope Francis to 'rip up and rewrite' Vatican constitution - Telegraph UK

"Cardinal Maradiaga is hinting that the Pope is asking the fundamental question: What can be decided in Rome and what at local level? How can the Roman Curia serve bishops instead of being an office of censure and control?" (Read more)

- For a man who has now been in office at the Vatican for only a few months, this pope seems to be moving very quickly to recreate the very foundation of the Catholic church. Pray for Pope Francis as he moves forward with these new plans. May he be guided by the Holy Spirit in every decision he makes, which will impact millions of believers around the world. Amen.

- "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." (Psalm 32:8 NLT)

8. A New Muslim Vision: Rebuilding Solomon's Temple Together - The Jewish Press

As a devout Muslim, it would be a joy for me to see Prophet Solomon's Temple rebuilt as well. No, you did not hear me wrong. Prophet Solomon's Temple being rebuilt in all its magnificence and glory would be a great delight for me, as it would be to any Muslim. Under different circumstances, in an atmosphere of trust, love and brotherhood, Muslims would welcome this with enthusiasm. The Temple of Solomon is also a historically important place, and rebuilding it would be a wonderful occasion for all believers to contemplate. (Read more)

- Raise up a firewall of prayer around this new concept, casting it to the ground in the Name of Jesus. Although we know that our Lord has died for Jew and Gentile together, bringing them new life through His death on the Cross, these schemes planned by men must fail. Unity between men can only be achieved by the Blood of our Messiah. Amen.

- "Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (Amos 3:3)

9. Fire Raging at Historic Masonic Temple in Massachusetts - Las Vegas Guardian Express

The historic Quincy Masonic Building in Quincy, Massachusetts, started catching fire at around noon on Monday. Built in 1926 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, the structure features a number of lodge rooms, a theater, a ballroom, and a library with oak paneling. The building, which was recently put up for sale at $3 million, is located at 1170 Hancock Street. (Read more)

- Some of our historic structures deserve to be destroyed. Praise the Lord that no one has been injured in this fire, but let this 'burning' be a sign to all of the fierce anger of the Lord against the idols in our land. Pray that a multitude will begin to be released from the deception of Freemasonry, and drawn unto salvation through the Blood of the Lamb. Pray!

- "All her carved images will be smashed. All her sacred treasures will be burned." (Micah 1:7)

10. Honor Flight Vets Storm The Barricades - Gary Bauer

Roughly 200 veterans flew to Washington this week, thanks to the Honor Flight program, to visit historic sites, including the World War II Memorial. But when the vets arrived at the World War II Memorial this morning they were greeted by barricades with signs reading, "Because of the Federal Government SHUTDOWN, All National Parks Are CLOSED." Guess what happened next!

According to various reports, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) distracted the Park Police while the veterans removed the barricades. Rep. Steve Palazzo (R-MS) said, "These men and women didn't cower to the Japanese and Germans. I don't think they're about to let a few National Park Police stand in their way."

- (From Gary Bauer) To their credit, the Park Police stood with our veterans. One officer, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Washington Post, "I'm not going to enforce the 'no stopping or standing' sign for a group of World War II veterans. I'm a veteran myself." Good for him. And kudos to the members of Congress who escorted our heroes to the memorial honoring their service and sacrifice.

- "Fight the good fight of faith . . ." (I Timothy 6:12)

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"Remember the prisoners as if chained with them-those who are mistreated-since you yourselves are in the body also." (Hebrews 13:3)

Somalis in Minnesota Still Enlisting in Terror Group that Describes the Killing of Christians as "Disneyland," and Beckons Muslims to "Join in this Fun." - USA Today

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Leaders of the nation's largest Somali community say some of their young men are still being enticed to join the terror group that has claimed responsibility for the deadly mall attack in Kenya, despite a concentrated effort to shut off what authorities call a "deadly pipeline" of men and money.

Six years have passed since Somali-American fighters began leaving Minnesota to become part of al-Shabab. Now the Somali community is dismayed over reports that a few of its own might have been involved in the violence at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi.

"One thing I know is the fear is growing," said Abdirizak Bihi, whose nephew was among at least six men from Minnesota who have died in Somalia. More are presumed dead.

Since 2007, at least 22 young men have left Minnesota to join al-Shabab, including two who did so last summer. Unconfirmed reports that two more left earlier this month have deepened concerns.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said Tuesday that initial reports had suggested a British woman and two or three American citizens may have been involved in the attack. But neither Kenyan authorities nor the Minneapolis FBI office had any confirmation.

Minnesota's Somali community, concentrated in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, includes people who fled the long civil war in their east African homeland and children born in the U.S. Many are now American citizens.

The movement of Somalis who've come to be known as "travelers" remains "a priority investigation for the Minneapolis office," FBI Special Agent Kyle Loven said.

At least 18 men and three women have been charged in the ongoing Minnesota investigation. Some went to Somalia while others were accused of aiding the effort mainly by raising money.

A Guide to Understanding the Shutdown

Government Shutdown: What You Need to Know

Congressman J. Randy Forbes has posted this link on his website, which is a handy guide to understanding the impact of the current government shutdown.

Gov't. Shuts Down, Obamacare Opens

Government Shuts Down, Obamacare Opens

Parts of the federal government shut down today, and Obamacare struggled to ramp up. People attempting to access the Healthcare.gov website this morning, which is running the Obamacare exchange program in 34 states, quickly discovered that the system had crashed, even after three years preparing for the big day.

. . . The big glitch is the fact that the law is poorly written and built on the idea that government knows best how to run your health care.

It has been a tenet of conservative orthodoxy that once Obamacare reached this stage there would never be another chance to roll it back. This was based on the belief that once people started getting benefits for "free," Obama and his leftist allies would have achieved their main goal of increasing government dependency. This is still a real risk.

But despite Democrat attempts to equate Obamacare with popular programs like Social Security and Medicare, there are at least as many people being hurt as helped by it. Many Americans still do not fully realize how they are being penalized or negatively affected. But they will.

Workers have had their hours and paychecks reduced as a result of Obamacare. People have lost jobs as a result of Obamacare. Many have already lost and more will lose the insurance they currently have.

All of which is to say there is no reason to despair. This battle will continue as reality sets in. Obamacare will be a major issue in next year's congressional elections, and it will be a major issue in the 2016 presidential election/

Senate Democrats Shut Down The Government

Late yesterday afternoon, House Republicans passed another budget resolution to keep the government open. Their legislation also included a one-year delay in Obamacare's individual mandate and an amendment insisting that members of Congress participate in Obamacare as required by the law. But, once again, Senate Democrats refused to consider the bill.

Let's be clear about that, friends. House Republicans passed a bill to delay the individual mandate, a move polls show the public overwhelmingly supports, and Senate Democrats rejected it.

House Republicans passed a bill to repeal the Obamacare waiver that Barack Obama granted to members of Congress, which polls show the public despises, and Senate Democrats rejected it.

House Republicans have passed three resolutions to fund the government and keep it open, and Senate Democrats have rejected them all.

Of course, virtually none of the national news broadcasts are explaining this to the American people.

ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC are not telling viewers that House Republicans are trying to delay the individual mandate so that families get the same benefit that Obama gave to Big Business. Nor are they telling their viewers that House Republicans are trying to roll back the congressional exemption from Obamacare and that Harry Reid and Senate Democrats are fighting to keep it.

If the RNC is awake, it should be making ads right now to run against every Democrat senator who voted against the House proposal.

But Democrats are digging in because they know the liberal media are on their side. This morning Time's Mark Halperin admitted that Obama's shutdown strategy depends on an obedient media blaming Republicans. (Gary Bauer)

Iran: Sellout Ahead?

Iran: Sellout Ahead?

While Obama refuses to negotiate with conservatives in Congress, he is aggressively pursuing negotiations with Iran's Hassan Rouhani. In contrast to his hardline with the GOP, Obama is acting like a cat ready to hop in Rouhani's lap to "purr" to the Persian.

When Rouhani refused to meet with Obama at the U.N., diplomats saw it as a "slap down" by Iran's wily leader. Obama appeared clueless to what had just happened to him and initiated a telephone call to Rouhani, another signal of weakness. White House "spinners" were quick to leak that the call was promising and showed the power of Obama's personal diplomacy. Don't believe it.

Here's the truth. Rouhani may be close to achieving the Islamic Iranian dream -- having nuclear weapons to intimidate us and threaten Israel or worse. But the economic sanctions on Iran are biting deeply. Rouhani believes he can get Obama to ease the sanctions in exchange for vague promises that Iran won't build nukes. Such an agreement would not be worth the paper it is written on.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Obama yesterday to urge caution on any concessions and warned against Rouhani's "sweet talk and blitz of smiles." Then he headed to Capitol Hill, where senators of both parties agreed with him about the need to stop the Iranian nuclear program. Time is running out.

Today Netanyahu went to New York to address the U.N. General Assembly. At noon he sent his own message to Obama: "Israel will not allow Iran to get nuclear weapons. If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone." (Gary Bauer)

The Daily Jot

Americans in the eye of a prophetic storm

The president has picked up the phone and had a friendly chat with one of the foremost state sponsors of terrorism in the world--the so-called "president" of Iran. In doing so, he has broken a longstanding policy dating back to 1979 that no US president in an official or unofficial capacity would negotiate with a terrorist. Now I am not saying that the US president is bringing about the Ezekiel 38 prophecy. But he is assisting it in aligning the nations against Israel. And that does not bode well for the United States or the people living here because there is destruction prophesied for the nations that work against Israel. Under this president, America can be counted among them.

Iran is consistent on its nuclear policy. For over a decade, Iran has publicly stated that there should be no nuclear weapons in the Middle East. It has consistently called on the UN and Israel itself to expose Israel's alleged nuclear arsenal. The Iranian government policy has been to publicly deny any intent to build a nuclear weapon while privately working as fast as possible to develop a nuclear weapon and the delivery system to use it. For this administration, either through Secretary of State John Kerry or the White House, to believe Iran will change its strategic direction on Middle East dominance is folly. For the leader of the free world to negotiate with terrorists endangers the entire world.

Moreover, this administration's favor of Islam--from appointing Muslim Brotherhood Islamists to high positions in the US government to aiding and abetting the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda in overthrowing governments across Northern Africa and the Middle East--points to a very destructive foreign policy that puts the American people in the eye of a prophetic storm. Ezekiel 38 is very specific on the nations that come against Israel in the end times. They include Turkey, Iran, Sudan, Libya and regions in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria and Jordan. This particular White House has been courting both sides of the Sunni and Shiite Islamic political system. All of them are involved in destructive prophetic destiny.

Zechariah 12:9 says, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy the nations that come against Jerusalem." The White House is on a foreign policy path that will result in destruction. No good can come of it. We know this because God's word is prophetic and true. We are on the wrong side of prophecy. We are also on the wrong side of history in supporting anything Islam. 1 John 2:22 says, "Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is an antichrist that denies the Father and the Son." Islam vehemently denies that Jesus is the Messiah and that God has a son. Proverbs 29:2 says, "but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." Put two and two together. We need a change.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

The Good News Corner

The Good News Corner:

26th Annual National Life Chain Coming October 6

Life Chains occur in other nations on different dates, and all Chains are peaceful. More than 20,000 have been held thus far, and no known pro-lifer has been cited or arrested. For that record, Life Chain credits God's faithful help, and we praise Him with grateful hearts.

On National Life Chain Sunday 2013-October 6, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM in each time zone across America and Canada-sidewalks in 1500 cities and towns will again proclaim Life Chain's irrefutable messages, among them Abortion Kills Children, Adoption: The Loving Option, Jesus Forgives and Heals, and Abortion Hurts Women. Life Chain is devoted foremost to prayer, but wise participants understand that prayer to end abortion is of limited value before God unless accompanied by love that will battle legal child killing and defend pre-born children.

Pro-life's two leading stories in 2013, Life Chain's 26th year, are unchanged in America and Canada: Abortions remain numerous, and the Church remains bound by deception and apathy. All the while God mercifully waits. He waits to work through His sons and daughters to end the unspeakable horror, but the ears of His Church do not hear and the eyes of His Church do not see. The result is a Church imprinted by shame from a calamity much greater in scope than the German Holocaust. While 56 million chiefly surgical abortions have been reported in America and 3 million in Canada, the actual numbers are much higher, and hidden deaths from the abortive chemicals in birth controls may exceed the surgical deaths.

Mindful, therefore, that no Church ministry exceeds our obligation to love our neighbors, born and pre-born, and to "rescue those led to slaughter," Life Chain urges clergy to provide essential leadership by applying both their strategic skills and their broad (often exclusive) control over the values and interests promoted in their sanctuaries.

The solution in each community is a triumphant Church that "the gates of Hades cannot prevail against," and on National Life Chain Sunday 2013, pastors in each local area are urged to lead their people to the nearest Life Chain to intercede against the spiritual forces that sustain legal child killing and corrupt our culture through multiple means.

Life Chains occur in other nations on different dates, and all Chains are peaceful. More than 20,000 have been held thus far, and no known pro-lifer has been cited or arrested. For that record, Life Chain credits God's faithful help, and we praise Him with grateful hearts.
