The Daily Brief - Friday, July 29, 2011

"Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)

The Daily Brief

1. Back to Square One? - Fox News

House GOP gets behind Speaker Boehner's debt ceiling plan, passing it without Democratic support, but it is quickly put on ice by Senate Dems as Majority Leader Reid tries to advance his own plan to avert default.

- Continue to offer a sacrifice of praise unto the Lord throughout this entire, tortuous process. Hidden agendas are clearly being revealed now, and voters are clearly seeing the differences between the two parties when it comes to the best economic plan for our nation. Pray for all in leadership on the Hill through this weekend, as they continue to struggle to write a bill that will satisfy all sides. Pray for a miracle!

Thank you for joining us on Monday as we observe a day of prayer, fasting and repentance, that we might bring this matter to the Lord and lay it on His altar. Praise God that we serve a God who hears and who answers our prayers.

- "And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left." (Isaiah 30:21)

2. US fails to halt slide towards debt default - UK Telegraph

Stock markets across the world tumbled and gold hit a fresh high as leaders in Washington failed to halt America's slide towards default.

Downgrade may now be unavoidable - Financial Post The principal risk emerging from the U.S. debt quagmire is not a cataclysmic default that many economists maintain is highly unlikely.

Much more realistic is a downgrade to the country's creditworthiness, which markets are beginning to register as distinctly possible, even if the debt ceiling is raised.

- Abba, Father, We thank you that the negotiations are becoming more intense as we near the deadline early next week. We thank you that our legislators are finally beginning to realize that they must come to an agreement now. We thank you for giving House Speaker Boehner the "piece of the puzzle" tying raising the debt ceiling to a constitutional ammendment requiring a balanced budget! We ask You to forgive the Senate for rejecting this bill; they know not what they do. We also ask that the American electorate will "hold their feet to the fire" of those who are willing to pass such an amendment, so that our nation will live within its means. We ask that the electorate will follow through by electing those Representatives and candidates who will seek to balance our budget. We thank You, Lord!! You are our Source! Amen!

- "And Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today.'" (Exodus 13:14)

3. Insiders Selling at Unusually Fast Pace - YahooNews.com

Bad news, stock-market bulls: Corporate insiders are selling their companies' shares at an abnormally fast pace.

In fact, one measure of that selling activity shows insiders of NYSE- and AMEX-listed companies recently were selling at the fastest rate since data began being collected in the early 1970s, four decades ago. On the theory that insiders know more about their companies' prospects than do the rest of us, this is an ominous sign. Read more.

- Men are doing the best they know how to rescue themselves, but we put on the mind of Christ. Bind the spirit of panic that is hitting the markets; and loose peace, wisdom, grace, and peace. Men may follow after men; but we follow after the Lord our God.

- "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." (Psalm 20:7)

4. Judge Tosses Suit Seeking to Stop Gov. Perry's Sponsorship of Texas Prayer Rally - Fox News

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit that sought to stop Gov. Rick Perry from sponsoring a national day of Christian prayer and fasting, ruling Thursday that the group of atheists and agnostics did not have legal standing to sue.

- Father, we thank You for this ruling! We thank You that all those who desire to call upon Your name are free to do so, and not be harassed. We ask, Lord, that you will visit these "atheists and agnostics" and reveal the reality of Who You are, and Your great love for each of them. May their hard hearts become flesh and receive your love and salvation! We praise You for reaching the "unreachable". Amen.

- "Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?" (Romans 2:4)

5. House panel approves broadened ISP snooping bill - CNet

Internet providers would be forced to keep logs of their customers' activities for one year--in case police want to review them in the future--under legislation that a U.S. House of Representatives committee approved today.

- Father, we understand that there is a need to monitor the behavior of evil, subversive people, in order to protect the rest of us. However, we hold our constitutionally-protected right to privacy dear as well. We ask for Your wisdom to be exercised here in this regard, as this kind of technology can be used for both good and evil. Lord, we ask You to give these legislators wisdom to come up with a solution that will expose the evil-doers, and yet protect the righteous. In Your great name, as Judge of the universe, we ask it. Amen.

- "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10)

6. U.S. threatens to stop sharing ballistic missiles intelligence with Turkey - PanArmenian

Ankara would have to operate without NATO's intelligence information on incoming ballistic missiles if it chooses to buy Chinese or Russian systems for its national air and missile defense program, officials of the Western alliance have warned Turkey, according to Hürriyet Daily News.-Many Western officials and experts say that since the Russian and the Chinese systems are not compatible with NATO systems, their potential eventual victory might provide them with access to classified NATO information, and as a result may compromise NATO's procedures.

- Lord, we thank You that these safeguards are being put into place to protect us from our potential enemies. We ask that the technological information available to us would be able to verify Turkey's compliance with not buying weapons systems from the Chinese or Russians. We pray, not only for our own protection, but for Israel's protection as well. Amen.

- "He will not let your foot slip-he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you-the LORD is your shade at your right hand." (Psalm 121:3-5)

Dancing all night with no money to pay the fiddler

All the wrangling on Capitol Hill about the debt limit is an indicator of an old saying my folks used to bring up, "If you dance all night you have to pay the fiddler in the morning." Another one is "someday all the chickens will come home to roost." These types of old sayings are almost vanished from the American lexicon, but if they were used more, perhaps the common sense and integrity in electing good leaders would return to our citizenry. We as citizens have been willing to hire out our civic responsibility for so long that now we face economic disaster because of the malfeasance practiced by those who are running our government. And those trying to actually fix it are condemned by the media and others.

Republicans cannot agree how to proceed with the debt limit. Some want to kick the can down the road with the president's idea of cutting $2 trillion from the government budget over ten years. Anyone with any sense knows that will never happen. Every Congress and every president over the next ten years will have their fingers in the pie and ignoring the public relations promise they made. Most all the Republicans refuse to accept the president's thirst for raising taxes to pay for the debt problem, or creating "revenues" on a "balanced approach," as the president deceptively calls it. When he says revenue and balance that means taxes that you are going to pay.

So what happened to common sense? Did you know that with all the so-called stimulus spending by this president, something near a trillion dollars, the economy created more jobs on its own? That the jobs the so-called stimulus created cost you and me $278,000 per job? The economy since all the stimulus money was spent (and no one can document where all of it went) has created nearly 300,000 jobs on its own? This is proof positive that the government should not be involved in the economy aside from making sure the playing field is fair. It should also be a very strong indicator that the tax and spend mentality does not work and that we have to do something different.

Jesus said in John 10:12, 13, "But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep." The politicians in Washington have acted like hirelings for so long that they have forgotten how to be shepherds. And the wolves have scattered them with vain words and apocalyptic predictions. Their aim is not to save the sheep, but to fleece them before their time, leaving them with no defense but to submit. We have allowed this terror by ignoring the signs, now its time to pay the fiddler and there is no money left to do it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

The Good News Corner:

A Joyful NASCAR Prayer Turns Heads

" . . . many of the folks at the race track that day would never have any interest in church. We wanted to present to them that living for Christ is fun; that being a Christian is not the end of living but the beginning of life." -Pastor Joe Nelms

When Pastor Joe Nelms of Family Baptist Church of Lebanon, TN, gave a pre-race prayer at the beginning of a NASCAR event last weekend, he had no idea the stir it would cause.

Starting in a fairly tradition way, Nelms then became more prayerfully specific, thanking God for "the Dodges and the Toyotas" and for "the Fords." He also praised the Lord for racing fuel and the "Goodyear tires." But, it was probably what came next that gave him national attention, as well as a cheer from the crowd . . .

" . . . and Lord I want to thank Ya for my 'smokin' hot wife, Lisa'; my two children Eli and Emma-or as we like to call them-the 'the little E's;' and Lord I pray You'd bless the drivers and use them tonight, may they put on a performance worthy of this great track, in Jesus' name-boogity, boogity, boogity-Amen!"

What did Pastor Nelms' wife, Lisa think about what he prayed? In a FOX and Friends interview Nelms said his wife "was fine with it. She said that if more men in this country were thankful for their wives we'd be in better shape."

To critics of his praying style, Pastor Nelms said, "What we were trying to accomplish that day was to reach out to a world that's lost and without Christ, and many of the folks at the race track that day would never have any interest in church. We wanted to present to them that living for Christ is fun; that being a Christian is not the end of living but the beginning of life. He wants our joy to be full and we wanted to show them how you can still have fun and be saved."

A SPECIAL CALL TO FAST AND PRAY

ON MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2011
"Is not this the fast that I have chosen?"
(Isaiah 58:6)

Introduction

Dear Friends,

We at Capitol Hill Prayer Partners continue to support Governor Rick Perry in his call to convene a day of prayer and fasting next week on Saturday, August 6 (details below).

However, the Spirit of the Lord has moved upon us to invite all of you, our Partners in Prayer, to also join us on MONDAY, AUGUST 1, for a day of fasting, prayer and repentance before the Lord our God.

Monday, August 1, brings us to the "finish line" of the debate about our debt ceiling crisis, and a decision must be made. The next day, the federal government must issue its checks for the month of August. Some of the bills that are paid by the Department of Treasury include: Social Security, Medicare, the Federal Employees' Retirement Fund, and the military. MUCH IS RIDING ON THE LINE NEXT WEEK FOR OUR NATION.

Many knowledgeable commentators are arguing that the adminstration's "scare tactic" that we will not be able to pay all of our bills by August 2nd is just that -- a scare tactic. Even so . . . it is time to pray.

In the face of this looming crisis, we also know that GOD HAS A PLAN FOR OUR PEOPLE. As we humble ourselves, fast, pray and seek His face on MONDAY, AUGUST 1, we trust that He WILL hear our prayers, and a breakthrough will occur for the good of all of our people.
Below please find several steps you may prayerfully consider taking in order to join with us in this day of corporate, united prayer, fasting and repentance.

Thank you for "being there" with us.

For such a time as this,
Sara C. Ballenger, President
Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

STEP ONE: OBSERVING THE DAY OF FASTING AND PRAYER

MONDAY, AUGUST 1

The Call to Fasting

"Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke?" (Isaiah 58:6)

This call to a day of fasting, prayer and repentance is not complicated to observe. Rather, we simply ask each of you to enter into your time of fasting at midnight on Sunday night in your own time zone, and continue on through for 24 hours, ending at midnight on Monday night.
In choosing your own plan of fasting, please seek the Lord for His plan for your day. Here are a few examples you may wish to consider:

-- Some may choose to drink only liquids for that time.

-- Some may feel to forgo eating only one meal during that day.

-- And some may feel quickened to pursue the fast of Queen Esther in her own desperate day, withholding both food and water for the entire 24-hour period. -- As always, those with special medical needs may wish to choose a fasting plan that does not center around "eating" for the day, but abstaining from some other form of activity for these 24 hours.

Whichever fasting plan you choose, we will be supporting you in prayer, asking our Lord to grant you His grace and His strength throughout this 24-hour period of time. Our alignment in fasting is key, for our unity will command His blessing! (Psalm 133)

The Call to Repentance

JOB 22:21-29

21 "Yield now and be at peace with Him; Thereby good will come to you. 22 "Please receive instruction from His mouth And establish His words in your heart. 23 "If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent, 24 And place your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks, 25 Then the Almighty will be your gold And choice silver to you. 26 "For then you will delight in the Almighty And lift up your face to God. 27 "You will pray to Him, and He will hear you; And you will pay your vows. 28 "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways. 29 "When you are cast down, you will speak with confidence, And the humble person He will save."

STEP TWO: COMMUNION AND THE LORD'S PRAYER

TAKING COMMUNION

We invite each of our prayer partners to set aside a few minutes during the day on Monday to come before the Lord and to receive the Cup of Communion from Him directly.

In receiving Communion, we must first examine our hearts and ask our Lord to cleanse us from any sin. Then we may wish to follow His words, spoken at the Last Supper:

"For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes." (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

THE LORD'S PRAYER

After Communion, let's each recite the Lord's Prayer, carefully pondering each phrase:

"Our Father, Which art in Heaven,
Hallowed by Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen."
(Matthew 6:9-13)

THE RESPONSE:

A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis

On August 6, the nation will come together at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas for a solemn gathering of prayer and fasting for our country.

We believe that America is in a state of crisis. Not just politically, financially or morally, but because we are a nation that has not honored God in our successes or humbly called on Him in our struggles.

According to the Bible, the answer to a nation in such crisis is to gather in humility and repentance and ask God to intervene. The Response will be a historic gathering of people from across the nation to pray and fast for America.

A MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR RICK PERRY

Fellow Americans,

Right now, America is in crisis: we have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters. As a nation, we must come together and call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we so richly enjoy.

Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response. Therefore, on August 6, thousands will gather to pray for a historic breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.

I sincerely hope you'll join me in Houston on August 6th and take your place in Reliant Stadium with praying people asking God's forgiveness, wisdom and provision for our state and nation. There is hope for America. It lies in heaven, and we will find it on our knees.

Sincerely,
Rick Perry, Governor
State of Texas

The Daily Jot

US Government caught arming Mexican drug cartels

The United State government authorized and allowed gun dealers to sell thousands of weapons to "straw" purchasers for Mexican drug cartels. The guns were used as part of the drug cartel's war against the Mexican government which has ended up in the killing of over 35,000 people in Mexico during the past four years. Now the anti-gun forces in Congress are using this as a poster child for tightening reporting requirements for gun dealers along the Mexican border when in reality it was the White House's program that wanted to arm Mexican drug cartels and trace the weapons to make arrests. The plan backfired, resulting in the deaths of at least one, maybe two American law enforcement officers.

California Republican Congressman Darrell Issa is holding hearings on this massive abuse of government authority. Issa is trying to get to the bottom of who knew what, and when they knew it. The Administration has stonewalled Issa's investigation and has to date written letters to Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agents intimidating them not to reveal to Issa's committee what they know. So far, Issa has confirmed that knowledge of operation "Fast and Furious" reaches the doorstep of US Attorney General Eric Holder, who denies he knew anything about it. Issa says that either the Attorney General knew about the operation and has lied to Congress or he is so detached that he was not doing his job.

Issa told the Washington Times, "How is it that the No. 2, 3, and 4 Justice all knew about this program, but the No. 1 didn't? Is it because he said 'don't tell me'? Is it because they knew what they were doing is wrong, and they were protecting their boss? Or is it that Eric Holder is just so disconnected that he makes a speech on April 2, 2009 essentially describing advances in gun runner additional activities that describe operation Fast and Furious, but then he never checks again until he reads the newspaper two weeks before he comes to us long after the investigation is underway." Issa says the operation showed a "callous disregard" for the impact the weapons had on the Mexican people and US citizens.

Now there is the cover up. The Administration is trying to intimidate witnesses not to answer certain questions, according to a letter to ATF agents that was uncovered by Issa. When the government is in a huge quandary over massive debt, unemployment and wars, how on earth can someone make the decision to arm drug runners in Mexico? This is separation of church and state at its finest. If people elected real Christians to office, who as Exodus 18:21 says "fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness" they would have understanding of basic right and wrong. It is wrong to give weapons to unlawful thugs. It is wrong to cover it up. And it is wrong to use it to restrict guns to law abiding citizens whom the government refuses to protect.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Of all the distortions and deceits in Obama's address to the nation Monday night, none was more infuriating than his blatant attempt to rob Ronald Reagan's legacy and use it for his own big government, high tax agenda. Obama pulled a small quote from a Reagan speech and suggested that he was merely following in "the Gipper's" footsteps.

I began following Ronald Reagan from the age of 18. Later, I left a good job in Washington, and Carol and I lived on our savings in order to allow me to join the Reagan campaign in 1980. From 1981 through the end of his presidency, I proudly served in the Reagan Administration in several positions, including as the head of the Office of Policy Development at the White House.

If Ronald Reagan were alive and active today, I believe he would be fighting non-stop to defeat the Obama agenda. Obama represents everything Reagan devoted his life to stopping. Reagan would be mortified by the damage this president has done to our country.

Reagan said government was the problem; Obama thinks government is the solution. Obama is obsessed with raising taxes; Reagan lowered the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 28%! Reagan was pro-life; Obama is not willing to prevent even one abortion out 1.5 million a year.

Reagan believed the United States was a "shining city upon a hill;" Obama apologizes to thugs and tyrants for America's alleged sins. Reagan wanted government out of our lives; Obama wants government to direct everything we do -- from what we eat to what light bulbs we use. Reagan respected "heartland values;" Obama said middle Americans were "bitter" and cling to their "religion and guns." Reagan respected the office of the presidency; Obama uses it to promote class warfare and to divide us.

Obama, keep your hands off Ronald Reagan! (Gary Bauer)

FRC Criticizes Certification of DADT Law

FRC Criticizes Certification to Repeal Military Law on Homosexuality

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Family Research Council (FRC) today criticized the Obama administration's decision to now "certify" the repeal of the 1993 statute barring open homosexuality in the military (usually referred to as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell").

A bill passed late last year by the Democratic lame-duck Congress provided for the 1993 law to be repealed, and homosexuals to be permitted to serve openly in the military, beginning sixty days after the President, Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certified that the change could be made without threatening the "military readiness, military effectiveness, unit cohesion and recruiting and retention of the Armed Forces."

FRC President Tony Perkins issued the following statement:

"America's military has barred homosexual conduct in the ranks ever since George Washington's Continental Army. President Obama, Secretary Panetta and Admiral Mullen have no basis - other than liberal political correctness - for 'certifying' that a reversal of this longstanding policy would do no harm.

"Even the Pentagon's biased report on the subject last year illustrated the dangers of using the military for social engineering. Retention would be harmed - 24 percent of service members said repeal would have a negative impact on their 'intentions to remain in the military,' a number six times higher than those who said it would have a positive effect. Recruiting would be harmed - repeal was four times more likely to have a negative than a positive effect on 'your willingness to recommend' a military career. Unit cohesion would be harmed - 62 percent foresaw at least some negative effects, and the report conceded that in open forums, 'the majority of views were against repeal.'

"The entire process by which the Obama administration has orchestrated repeal of this law was dishonest from the start. The recent revelation of a Defense Department Inspector General's report on unauthorized leaks to the media showed that the conclusions of the Pentagon's report on repeal had already been written before the troops were even asked their views.

"I urge Congress to put the brakes on 'repeal implementation' to investigate this scandal, and to reverse the ill-advised decision of last year's repudiated Democratic lame duck Congress."

KEEP CALLING CONGRESS!!

Urge your Representative and Senators today (202-224-3121) to not accept any debt deal that keeps the burden on future generations.

The Capitol Switchboard is jammed, but you WILL get through if you keep trying! Just hit "redial" on your landline or cell phone, and keep trying. Congress needs to hear your voice on "Cap, Cut, and Balance" . . .

Will Congress Cut and Run or Cut, Cap and Balance?

The House Republican Leadership has a plan, the Senate Democratic Majority Leader has a plan, Obama . . . well he has an outline of a plan devoid of detail.

The American people don't need more plans, they need solutions. One such solution passed the House of Representatives in bipartisan fashion but came up just a few votes short in the Senate because the President refuses to support a plan that would actually change the Washington way of runaway spending.

Now both House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) are offering similar plans that fall far short of any significant cuts in current spending and fail completely in putting real restraints on Congress to stop this big spending spiral on the taxpayer's dime (increasing the debt to the tune of over $14 trillion!).

There is no need to go back to the starting block to appease the unappeasable in the White House. The House of Representatives passed legislation that addresses the problems, both short-term and long-term.

Cut, Cap, Balance, and Bury:

Cut the deficit
Cap the spending
Balance the budget
Bury ObamaCare.

Call your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators today (202-224-3121) and tell them to not vote for any of these plans devised of smoke and mirrors but to stand strong on CUT, CAP and BALANCE.

Sincerely,
Tony Perkins
President

Recognize Jerusalem Act

Jerusalem's fate is hanging in the balance

This September the Palestinians will be going to the UN in a bid for statehood. Yet recent developments in negotiations could bring the future of Jerusalem into question even sooner.

"In a last-minute effort to stop the Palestinians from seeking unilateral recognition at the United Nations in September, the Mideast Quartet is planning to present a new international peace plan at a summit in Washington on July 11," Ha'aretz reported earlier this month. However, as the EU, UN, Russia and US Quartet members gathered in Washington on Monday, July 11, they could not even issue a statement regarding how to move forward.

The peace plan under current consideration would be based on President Obama's Middle East Policy speech on May 9 which called for a two state solution based on 1967 lines (pre-1967 war lines, i.e. 1949 Armistice Lines) with mutually agreed upon land swaps. This means Jerusalem is on the chopping block.

Now is the time to ensure Jerusalem remains united under Israeli sovereignty. Since 1967 Israel has ensured that their Holy City has remained open to people of all faiths. For the past 44 years, the city has thrived under Israeli rule. The Holy sites and freedom of religion have been protected. Ironically, the most holy site to the Jewish people - the Temple Mount - is the least free place in the entire city. In an act of goodwill in 1967, Israel handed over control of the Temple Mount to the Muslim waqf (Muslim religious authorities) and to this day, Jews and Christians are prohibited from praying on the Temple Mount.

Act today for Jerusalem's future. Log on to www.recognizejerusalem.com and petition your Representative to sign on to the Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act of 2011. This bill would officially recognize Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel and would relocate the US Embassy there. This act would honor a commitment the US made to Israel in 1995, and would signify to the world that the US stands with its allies.

Jerusalem is not a bargaining chip - it is the eternal, undivided capital of the State of Israel.

Washington needs to hear your voice.

Log on and join the effort to Recognize Jerusalem today!

Forbes' Statement on World Trade Center Lawsuit

Lawsuit Filed in New York City:

Attempts to Remove World Trade Center Cross from National 9/11 Memorial in New York City

Washington, D.C. - Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04), Chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, released the following statement in response to a lawsuit filed this week to remove the World Trade Center cross from the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City:

"The cross of steel beams discovered in the wreckage around the World Trade Center has served as a symbol of hope for many devastated by the worst terrorist attack in our nation's history. Unfortunately, the attempt to remove the cross is another sad and misguided example of incessant efforts to remove all religious symbols from public life. To remove this cross, a physical part of the history of that tragic day, would be an insult to the many who found solace in its symbolism."

- Pray that this lawsuit is dropped.

- "And I placed boundaries on it And set a bolt and doors, And I said, 'Thus far you shall come, but no farther; And here shall your proud waves stop'?" (Job 38:10,11)

The Good News Corner:

Welcome to the 2011 Prayer Event!

30-Days of Prayer for the Moslem World

Ramadan 2011: August 1 - 30

This call to prayer for Moslems originally came during a meeting of several Christian leaders in the Middle East in 1992. A prayer movement was planned to coincide with the Islamic month of Ramadan which follows a lunar calendar.

It was intended that "30-Days" should be during the month of Ramadan for at least two reasons:

(1) as a means for Christians to identify themselves with Moslems during a fixed period of the year and

(2) to call upon God's sovereign intervention in the lives of Moslems during a time of the year when they are particularly religious.

Please note that praying during the month of Ramadan does not mean that we conform ourselves to the Moslem practices of fasting and prayer. As believers in Jesus we disagree with Islamic ideas, theology and practice in several areas. However, the "30 Days" movement emphasizes God's love for Moslems. We encourage all believers in the Messiah to cultivate a spirit of humility, love, respect and service toward Moslems.

The goal of this prayer guide is to inspire and direct each reader as he or she intercedes for the Moslem world. Beginning 1 August you will receive a daily prayer guide so we can all pray along the same lines in Faith, Hope and Love for the Moslem world.

It is estimated that three to four million Moslems have come to faith in the Messiah in the last 20-30 years.

More Moslems have turned to the Messiah in recent years than during the entire last 1,400 years since Mohammed.

For background information on Ramadan and what Christians should know about Islam, please check our website: http://www.30-days.net/category/islam/

Thank you, God bless, Ron, Victor and the 30-Days team.

Note: Begining on Monday, August 1, you can read the daily prayers for Moslems during Ramadan by going here.

The Daily Brief - Tuesday, July 26, 2011

"Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)

The Daily Brief

1. Boehner delays debt vote - Washington Post

House Republicans have delayed a vote on their bill to lift the debt ceiling as they scrambled Tuesday night to rewrite portions of the measure to ensure that accompanying spending cuts were large enough, according to three senior GOP aides. Budget analysts said hours earlier the plan would only create $850 billion in savings as opposed to the sought-after $1.2 trillion. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the vote could now happen Thursday. Read more.

- Offer praise to the Lord as He continues to lead Speaker Boehner and the other House Republicans through this complicated process, one step at a time.

- "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way." (Psalm 37:23)

2. Previous Debt Ceiling Hikes Were of Shorter Duration Than the One Obama Wants Now - CNS News

The three previous debt ceiling increases signed by Obama have all been of shorter duration than the 18-month increase the administration is currently demanding, which is contrary to the president's argument that a long-term increase is necessary for economic stability.

- Abrupt policy changes, like the one cited above, do nothing to calm the nerves, but only adds to the tension of an already-intense situation. Obama seems to be a bit in over his head. Pray that he will find the humility and the wisdom to seek out sound counsel and wise guidance through these perilous times, and that he will then take heed to the advice that is given. Pray!

- "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (I Timothy 2:1,2)

3. U.S. cash said to be reaching Taliban in Afghanistan - Washington Post

Military-led probe cites "credible evidence" that U.S. taxpayer money has been indirectly funneled to the Taliban under a $2.16 billion transportation contract that the United States has funded in part to promote Afghan businesses.

The unreleased investigation provides definitive evidence that corruption puts U.S. transportation money into enemy hands, a finding consistent with previous inquiries carried out by Congress, other federal agencies and the military. Yet U.S. and Afghan efforts to address the problem have been slow and ineffective, and all eight of the trucking firms involved in the work remain on U.S. payroll. In March, the Pentagon extended the contract for six months. Read more.

- As Congress continues to struggle to find ways to rein in our spending, pray that any and all funds used for corrupt practices be disclosed and canceled. Bring our money home, where WE need it, and now!

- "The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly." (Proverbs 5:22,23)

4. Americans increasingly unhappy with Washington's effort on jobs, poll finds - Washington Post

More than a third of Americans now believe that President Obama's policies are hurting the economy, and confidence in his ability to create jobs is sharply eroding among his base, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Americans are also unhappy with congressional Republicans: 65 percent disapprove of the GOP's handling on jobs, compared with 52 percent for the president. Read more.

- Offer praise that the American people are beginning to see past the propaganda of the mainstream press to the reality of our situation. May they respond, in kind, when it is time to cast their vote. The decision of who will next occupy the Oval Office rests with us.

- "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap." (Gal. 6:7)

5. World stocks fall as US debt deadlock continues - AP

World stock markets were lower Monday after U.S. political leaders failed to reach a deal to raise Washington's debt limit and avoid a default.

- As "political leaders failed to reach a deal," could it be that we have been looking in the wrong direction to see this crisis resolved? Might there be a man (or a group of men) of great means who would come forward to help us to bridge this gap? Can the private sector bring us a solution where the public sector cannot? Call forth a "Joseph" to appear, as one did at the time of the burial of Jesus' body, to step into this picture and provide perhaps a short-term "fix" on the way to a long-term restructuring of our national debt crisis. Nothing is too difficult for God! Pray!

- "Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.. . . " (Luke 23:50-53)

6. Obama formally ends 'don't ask, don't tell' policy - NY Daily News

Gays to serve openly in military as of Sept. 20 - Obama on Friday formally signed off on ending the ban on gays serving openly in the military.

- This is huge. We cry out to God to show His mercy to our nation, even in the midst of our fallen state. The clock continues to "tick" towards the day of judgment and the day of reckoning. Will we be found faithful when He returns?

- "In wrath, remember mercy." (Hab. 3:2)

7. Gunman Is Ordered Held, Warns of More Terror Cells - Wall Street Journal

The man who confessed to carrying out a bombing and shooting spree that left at least 76 of his fellow Norwegians dead told a court that he was part of an organization with "cells all over Europe," a claim authorities said they were investigating but unable to confirm.

- Continue in prayer, lifting up "all in authority" in Norway (and beyond), as they work to confirm this report and to dismantle the plans of other cells that may be located throughout Europe.

- "For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light." (Mark 4:22)

The Daily Jot

Perilous times and the debt debate

The word of God states in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." Anyone watching the president of the United States in the debt debate has seen all of this. Even the Washington Times asked in bold headlines, "Is Obama a pathological liar?"

Plain speech is what we need to hear. And plain speech is that when you spend and borrow so much that you cannot pay your bills, you must cut back on your spending. American households just cannot spend more because there is nothing to spend in the family coffers. On a much larger scale, that is what has happened to America--faster under this president than all the others in history combined. Now even Democratic leaders in Congress are reluctantly agreeing with Republicans that there must be deep cuts in government programs without tax increases on an already burdened citizenry to fix the problem. The man who occupies the Oval Office is all alone in his rhetoric for a "balanced approach."

He is all alone because he is point blank lying to the American people about the situation. Insiders on the Hill in both parties are now saying the president is not telling the truth. The American people cannot afford any more government. In fact, it is out of control to the point that government spending threatens not only the national security, but also the future of every American citizen, young and old. The president is trying to make this a classic communistic class struggle between the haves and the have nots, but this is not what this debate is about. You should not hate your fellow American for being successful. His success is tied to your success and well being. This is about responsible fiscal stewardship.

The president has threatened to not pay social security or veterans benefits if the debt ceiling is not raised in a way that he can continue to tax citizens and grow the government. He is blaming his actions on those who disagree with him, saying they will force him to withhold payments. Pensions and social security are in trusts. If there is not enough money in these trusts, who stole it? Even those believing in social justice know that there is a limit to what the government can do--the limit of draining the people's every possession that it might be redistributed to someone else. Indeed, perilous times have come. The right answers are found in God's economy. You have to know the Bible, however, to understand them.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

ICEJ Statement:

Norwegian tragedy - July 26, 2011

Dear Friends,

It is with horror that we read the reports of the needless killings in Norway. Even more disturbing is the fact that the assailant apparently described himself as a Christian and supporter of Israel. To commit acts of evil of this nature in the name of God or any religion is just totally unacceptable and evidence of a deluded mind. Christians who support Israel all over the world and who are related to our great movement, which incorporates more than a hundred countries, condemn this crime in the strongest manner. To take innocent life in the name of some religious/political agenda is totally abhorrent.

The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, together with its Norwegian Director, Leif Wellerop, and Branch in Norway, join with the Nation of Norway in sorrow and prayer at this very difficult time. We can only trust that the God of Heaven will bring comfort and peace to the families who have lost precious loved ones. We have yet again called our global movement to prayer and Norway will be in our hearts and minds as we call upon the throne of God to bring real peace to our broken world.

Yours in Christ,
Malcolm Hedding
Executive Director ICEJ

Norwegian Terrorist No Christian

Both the Washington Post and the New York Times have run headlines labeling Anders Breivik, the Norwegian mass murderer, a "right-wing Christian." These are the same two newspapers that go to great lengths to avoid using the word "Moslem" to describe Islamist murderers.

They regularly warn us not to jump to conclusions about any jihadist attack, and they lecture us not to reach any conclusions about the role the Muslim religion might have played. All of these "rules" have apparently been cast aside as the two papers, and countless other commentators, try to make Breivik into a conservative Christian.

I can assure you that Anders Breivik was not a follower of Jesus Christ. I can say that with confidence because neither he nor anyone else can cite one word from the teachings of Christ that would justify his evil actions. His murderous rampage is a repudiation of the whole body of Christ's teachings. The same cannot be said about the teachings of Muhammad, which contain many statements that can be used to justify murder.

No one can find one Christian theologian, reputable pastor, denominational leader, Christian author or philosopher who will attempt to defend Breivik's actions. Unfortunately, many imams, Muslim leaders and mosques will defend Islamists who intentionally kill civilians, including children.

In Breivik's 1,500 page "manifesto," it is clear that he hates Islam and wants Europe to rediscover its Christian culture. Breivik likes violent video games. His favorite TV show is Dexter, a series that glorifies a serial killer. One also finds in his ramblings that he is a follower of Charles Darwin, seldom if ever prays, says it is possible to be a "Christian atheist," and adds, "I'm not going to pretend I'm a very religious person."

Breivik doesn't have to pretend he is a religious man -- the Washington Post and the New York Times will pretend for him. (Gary Bauer)

UN Youth Summit Meets This Week

Pro-Family Young People Seek to Influence UN Youth Summit

Summary: Locked out of sessions, they submit a declaration.

Young people who support life and family values are showing the United Nations High Level Meeting on Youth this week that there are other points of view in the world. The UN has crafted a document for the New York summit establishing certain "rights" for youth worldwide. It subverts parents' rights and presses a pro-abortion agenda.

In response, the International Youth Coalition submitted a document of its own that affirms life and family. It's been signed by 57,000 young people worldwide.

We -- young people from all over the world -- celebrate the fact that, as human beings, we are created in the image and likeness of God and therefore we possess inherent human dignity. We believe that the age of youth is the "sculptress that shapes the whole of life" and as such this is perhaps the most critical period in the development of the human person. Because we are the future of the human family, we strive for the common good and for a positive renewal of society. We seek the continued healthy flourishing of the human family.

Spokesman Tyler Ament says UN officials told young people with his group they wouldn't be able to attend sessions, because of space limitations. But when they peeked in the large hall, they saw many empty seats.

"There's a voice that's missing from the conversation," he said. "We don't want children to have so-called rights to make decisions without their parents, when they're not ready to." (CitizenLink)

Lawsuit Targets New York Same-Sex Marriage Law

New York's law legalizing same-sex marriages went into effect over the weekend, just as family advocates went to court to overturn the law.

Liberty Counsel filed the challenge asking a state court to undo the law. They charge that there were procedural violations during the legislative process. The suit says open-meeting laws were ignored: Gov. Andrew Cuomo lifted a mandatory three-day review period for the legislation, and rule changes on the Senate floor prevented debate on the bill.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver says the state Constitution specifically requires government to be open and transparent, and that mandate was ignored. "Even during some of the Senate discussion, they actually locked the doors so that the senators could not leave, and the public could not get into the session," he explained. "Everyone suffers for it. Really what happens is we lose the representative form of government.

Liberty Counsel is representing New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms (NYFCF) and several others.

Sunday was the first day same-sex couples were allowed to marry. In response, the National Organization for Marriage held four rallies across the state attracting, in all, more than 10,000 supporters. In New York City, Albany, Rochester and Buffalo, the simultaneous rallies asked lawmakers to give voters the right to decide this critical issue. Supporters are aiming to put a measure on the 2014 ballot to define marriage as one man and one woman.

To date, at least three New York municipal clerks have resigned rather than issue same-sex marriage licenses. The Alliance Defense Fund released a memo last week to clerks outlining their rights under the state religious accommodation law. A website The Courage Fund launched by NYFCF seeks to provide assistance and encouragement to municipal clerks and other people of faith facing job loss, harassment and unfair termination in light of the same-sex marriage law.

The Rev. Jason McGuire, executive director of NYFCF, said it's all about accountability.

"Constitutional liberties were violated," he said. "We are asking the court to intervene in its rightful role as the check and balance on an out-of-control state Legislature." (CitizenLink)

Norway Looking to God in Aftermath of Devastating and Deadly Attack

Aimee Herd (July 26, 2011)

"Christians around the world will have to pull together to help Norway in the following months to come." -Dr. Patrick Long

(Norway)-According to a Christian Post report, the citizens of Norway are still in a state of shock, and many are turning to God for answers and comfort after Friday's bombing and shooting by suspected "lone wolf" terrorist Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year-old Norwegian man.

The horrendous attacks left at least 76 dead; most of them young people who were gunned down at a youth conference on the island of Utoya, near Oslo. Churches reportedly remained open on Saturday to be accessible to mourners and for prayer.

While Breivik describes himself as "a Christian," he was found to have strong nationalist and anti-multiculturalist views. Norwegian police officials told reporters that Breivik's targets were government officials and children "associated with the governing Labour Party."

Dr. Patrick Long, a retired pastor in New Orleans, Louisiana, commented saying, "When an event like this happens to young people especially-it is a crime against the entire nation."
"Our nation is praying for a praying nation," added Long. "It is shocking that such a peace-filled country saw such hatred in one man who obviously did not know where his loyalties were and was without a doubt, insane. Christians around the world will have to pull together to help Norway in the following months to come."
