"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." (Psalm 91:2)

The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 5

Thursday, May 5, is the National Day of Prayer. This year's theme, "A Mighty Fortress is our God", is taken from Psalm 91. The theme reminds participants that our God is a refuge, a stronghold of safety in a troubled time.

Prayer is a vital part of our heritage as Americans. In times of need, American leaders have sought the assistance of God, and called on the people of the United States to pray.

The first National Day of Prayer was called by the Continental Congress in 1775. There have been over 135 national calls to prayer and/or thanksgiving by our Presidents. There have also been close to 1,000 state and federal calls to prayer since 1775. And God has answered those prayers by meeting the nation's needs. Sometimes that has meant sending rain, protecting our troops at war, or maintaining our peace and freedom, but God has been faithful to America.

It is time for America to pray again. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners urges you to attend one of the thousands of public services being held to recognize the National Day of Prayer. To find a National Day of Prayer event in your area or to host one at your church, click here.

Help Us Promote NDP!

Join us in promoting the National Day of Prayer this Sunday!

Next Thursday, May 5, is the 60th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. The theme for this year is "A Mighty Fortress is our God" from Psalm 91. The National Day of Prayer has become an anchor to a growing prayer revival taking place across our land. If it continues to grow, it could mean revival in our churches and another Great Awakening in America. May God make it so!

You can find an NDP event in your area by clicking on this link to the National Day of Prayer "find-an-event" page. Please promote the specific details of your area event to your church members this Sunday and plan to participate.

If there is no event planned near you, open your facilities for prayer services at noon on Thursday and invite your church and community. Be sure to post the event on the NDP website by clicking here. Need more resources? Visit the NDP website. You can learn more about NDP's 7 x 7 campaign to pray for the seven centers of influence in our country, seven days a week by clicking here. FRC has partnered with NDPTF to create a free, downloadable bulletin insert you can reproduce for use in church this Sunday. To get a copy, click here.

America is in difficult times: economic, moral, political, but most of all spiritual. This National Day of Prayer may be a pivotal moment for our nation. Only God can heal our land (2 Chr 7:14). But only America's pastors and churches can provide the spiritual leadership our nation now needs. Please join with FRC and the NDP and churches across America to help this year's National Day of Prayer become the most God-pleasing and nation-changing day of prayer in American history. Let's saturate America with prayer on Thursday, May 5.

Legal Questions Resolved!

Recently, the observance of the National Day of Prayer has had its challenges. Last year, Federal Judge Barbara Crabb handed down a wrong-headed ruling based on a suit filed by the Freedom from Religion Foundation, which declared unconstitutional every government proclamation from those in Puritan New England, the Continental Congress, Governors and nearly every United States President from George Washington to Barack Obama. Earlier this month, the Seventh U.S. Court of Appeals thankfully upheld the constitutional right of public officials to proclaim and Americans to observe the National Day of Prayer. To learm more about that ruling, go here.

In fact, President Harry Truman signed into law a declaration in 1952 that every President "shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer." In 1988, President Ronald Reagan took President Truman's declaration one step further and set the first Thursday of May as the official National Day of Prayer (NDP). Since then, President Reagan, President George H.W. Bush, and President George W. Bush have marked this day with a White House observance. Indeed, all presidents, including Obama, have issued commemorative proclamations.

In commenting on the decision rendered by the court, Shirley Dobson, Chairman of the National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force and wife of Focus on the Family Founder Dr. James Dobson, said "I applaud the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. Since the days of our Founding Fathers, the government has protected and encouraged public prayer and other expressions of dependence on the Almighty. Prayer is an indispensable part of our heritage, and as citizens, we must remain faithful in our commitment to intercede for our nation during this pivotal and challenging time."

Michael Calhoun, Director of Strategic Communication for the National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force added, "This is definitely a victory for the free exercise of religion that our Founding Fathers sought to ensure, and we are thankful for the outcome. I can't think of a time in recent memory when it has been more important to pray for wisdom and direction for our country and its leaders . . . I hope millions will join the ongoing efforts of our NDP Task Force to that end."

The Daily Brief

1. Obama Tours Storm-Wracked Alabama as Survivors Pick Up Pieces - Fox News

Obama arrived in devastated Alabama to console victims whose emergency safety net has been so badly frayed, at least one town was begging for body bags. After witnessing the damage in storm-wracked neighborhoods, Obama promised help and remarked that he's "never seen devastation like this." Entire neighborhoods were obliterated in the city of more than 83,000 that's home to the University of Alabama. Read more.

- Pray over all the relief efforts now being amassed in the wake of these deadly tornadoes, both from private and public sources. When disaster strikes in other countries, the United States is always quick to offer help; it is now time to help our own.

- "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (Matthew 21:22)

2. Survivors Picking Up Pieces After Deadly Twisters Kill Over 300 - Fox News

In Phil Campbell, a small town of 1,000 in northwest Alabama where 26 people died, the grocery store, gas stations and medical clinic were destroyed by a tornado that Mayor Jerry Mays estimated was a half-mile wide and traveled some 20 miles. "We've lost everything. Let's just say it like it is," Mays said. "I'm afraid we might have some suicides because of this."

- This mayor is speaking the truth and telling it like it is. This is the heartcry of a "king" who must help his people cope with disaster. Bind the spirit of suicide that may be active throughout the states and towns where the tornadoes hit this week, and call forth the hope we have within. Let's not see more disasters follow the first ones. Read more.

- "I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth." (Job 19:25)

- " [Though my life suffers the loss of all things,] yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of the deer, He enables me to go to the heights." (Habakkuk 3:17-19)

3. Court Rejects Ban on Federal Stem Cell Funds - Fox News

Appeals court overturns decision that blocked White House from using taxpayer funds for stem cell research

- Father we lay our nation before You once again and plead for mercy. We are broken that our judges and leaders continue to shed the blood of innocents without remorse. We pray that You would release Your Spirit and grant us repentance from coast to coast.

- "And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." (John 16:8)

4. Syria Baath Party members quit; military defections reported - LA Times

Cracks appeared in the Syrian regime Thursday with the resignations of members of the ruling Baath Party and continuing reports of divisions in the military before another showdown with protesters expected Friday.

- Father we pray for more and more cracks in the Syrian government, that their reign of terror will finally come to an end. We pray also that You will fill those cracks with Your Holy Spirit and not allow terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda to fill them.

- "Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap." (Isaiah 17:1)

5. Obama Under Pressure to Call for Syrian Leader's Ouster - Fox News

Obama is facing increased pressure to call for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad, as Assad's government continues a violent crackdown on protesters that activists say has killed more than 450 people. While Obama has resisted those calls so far, on Friday he imposed financial penalties against three top Syrian officials, Syria's intelligence agency and Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

"We call on President Assad to change course now, and heed the calls of his own people," the White House said Friday evening in its strongest statement yet on the unrest in Syria, calling the Syrian government's actions "deplorable." Read more.

- Pray in the Spirit over this report. The LORD knows the plans He has in store for this people, and He is certainly keeping watch over His own. Ask that wisdom be granted to Mr. Obama in this delicate matter. May God's perfect will -- and only His perfect will -- be done in and through the nation of Syria.

- "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matt. 6:10)

6. IAEA Confirms Syria Secretly Building Nuclear Reactor - VOA News

The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency has said for the first time that a target bombed in Syria in 2007 was a secretly built nuclear reactor.

- Lord we often wonder why it takes governments so long to speak truth when everyone else knows all along what is going on. We ask that in this shakeup in Syria You will stop any further nuclear arms production and protect Your people Israel from harm.

- "I will break also the bar of Damascus . . ." (Amos 1:5a)

7. NASA Postpones Space Shuttle Endeavour Launch at Least 72 Hours - Fox News

NASA has postponed the launch of space shuttle Endeavour by at least 72 hours, following the discovery of two failed heaters in an auxiliary power unit. "We will fly no orbiter before she's ready," said Mike Leinbach, shuttle launch director, announcing the delay. "Today she just wasn't ready to go." Leinbach said the issue lay in the thermostat for one of the fuel lines tied to Auxiliary Power Unit 1 heaters, which provide hydraulic power to steer the craft during ascent and descent.

- Offer great praise for the wisdom demonstrated by these officials at NASA in delaying the launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor. Pray that, before liftoff, any other hidden thing that may yet need to be corrected will be revealed and repaired. Praise God!

- For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)

8. Obama Meets with Giffords, Husband in Florida - Fox News

Obama met with Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords at Kennedy Space Center Friday for about 10 minutes before meeting with her astronaut husband, Endeavour shuttle commander Mark Kelly. Obama still went on a planned trip to Cape Canaveral even after the mission was scrubbed due to technical difficulties.

Obama first toured part of Kennedy Space Center, and saw parts of the shuttle Atlantis before meeting with the Endeavour astronauts.

Giffords came to Florida from Houston, where she is recovering from a January assassination attempt. Obama saw her husband first and according to a readout from the White House Kelly said, "I bet you were hoping to see a rocket launch today." The president replied, "We were hoping to see you." They shook hands and embraced.

- We continue to be amazed at the reports of Rep. Giffords' miraculous recovery from the wounds she suffered during the failed assassination attempt in January. Let's not forget to lift her up in prayer, as long as it takes, until the full recovery of all of her faculties has been restored. Praise God!

- "(She) will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done." (Psalm 118:17)

9. WikiLeaks: Bin Laden watched 9/11 attacks on TV - Ynet News

Hundreds of new classified United States military documents shed light on the whereabouts of al-Qaeda terrorists after the September 11 terror attacks.

- God, sweep over the crowds of terrorists who played any part in the destruction of the twin towers in New York City. Speak to the evil spirits in these people that they are bound under the blood of Jesus. Take hold of their hearts by the righteous Holy Spirit and bring them to their knees in utter repentance by asking forgiveness for their evil deeds and save their souls by the blood of Jesus. In Jesus' Name we pray.

- "And behold the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands." (Acts 12:7)

The big wedding--are you invited?

There was a big wedding in England this week. Anybody who is anybody was invited. It was the beautiful people on earth all gathered to see Prince William wed Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey. The man who occupies the Oval Office was not invited. And the Ambassador to Syria, a terrorist sponsoring nation, was uninvited because he is not supporting the democratic revolution there sponsored by another terrorist group, the Muslim Brotherhood. So where does that put the President of the United States--somewhere between president of the most powerful nation in the free world and a front man for a terrorist sponsoring country? But there is going to be another wedding even bigger than the royals.

Not everybody will make the list on this wedding either. In fact, you will be most likely surprised who is there. Its been a long time in preparation. In typical Jewish tradition, the bridegroom has gone to prepare a place for his bride at his father's estate. When the father says that the abode is ready, the bridegroom will return for his bride. The bride is supposed to be spotless and ready, for she does not know at what day or time her groom will return. She should have her life in order, ready to leave with her husband on a moments notice. She has many, many who tend to her. They are also to keep watch for the return of the groom, as it may be like a thief in the night.

Unlike the royals' guestbook, the names of those who will attend this wedding are kept in a book away from the public's eye. In fact, not all who know the groom and have done many wonderful works in his name will be allowed to enter in. Some who have known the groom for a long time, others who have known him only a short time will be allowed to come. Its not a list of celebrities. In fact, a lot of common folk will make the list, to the great astonishment of others. Some might be those who work in the field, others in factories, still others who are fishermen. Some might have a lot of money, but most will not. Notwithstanding, this will be the most important of royal weddings in history.

By now you may have figured out that I am referring to the wedding of the Church with Jesus Christ. It is the wedding that nobody would want to miss. And its not going to matter whether you are the president of the United States or the ambassador to Syria. All that matters is your heart and whether you have accepted Jesus as your savior and have kept his commandments. While many may have wished and hoped they were in the guest book for the Will and Kate wedding, the one thing everyone should want to be sure of is to have your name written in the book of life. Revelation 20:15 says, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Do you have an invitation?

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

In Gaza: Enemies of Israel Join Forces

Abbas's Fatah Party Reaches Unity Government Deal with Hamas

In a move that could send shockwaves through Israel, Palestinian Authority [PA] head Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party and the terrorist Hamas group have agreed to form an interim national unity government, according to The Jerusalem Post.

The agreement, which still must be signed, includes plans to hold new elections in a year and poses a serious threat to obliterate any chance of a renewed peace process between Israel and the PA. Among other concerns, Hamas has refused to recognize Israel's right to exist, and one senior official has already dismissed joining peace talks.

In a response to the expected unity agreement, posted on the Prime Minister's Office Web site, Benjamin Netanyahu said, "The Palestinian Authority needs to choose between peace with Israel and peace with Hamas. Peace with both is impossible because Hamas aspires to destroy the State of Israel and says so openly. It fires missiles at our cities; it fires anti-tank rockets at our children."

Hamas is in agreement with Netanyahu's sentiment that they are opposed to a peace deal. Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar said Hamas would not participate in peace talks with Israel, reported The Jerusalem Post. "Our plan does not involve negotiations with Israel or recognizing it," Zahar said. "It will be impossible for an interim government to take part in the peace process with Israel."

The Jerusalem Post noted in their coverage of the Palestinian reconciliation deal that the signing of a previous deal in 2009 fell apart at the last minute. However, that appears unlikely to happen here. The head of the Fatah negotiating delegation said regarding the current agreement that the sides have agreed on all the disputed issues.

The Israeli newspaper reported that a member of the Hamas delegation said the sides have signed initial letters of the deal, with a final signing still to come between the two factions' leaders. Zahar also has outlined several of the terms of the Palestinian unity deal, including forming an interim unity government made up of "professional" figures, each side releasing the other's prisoners and forming a security committee.

The Jerusalem Post did not detail how security cooperation would be handled, however, that could threaten the cooperation between Israel and PA security forces that has helped keep a lid on terrorism in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria]. In addition, a mass prisoner release could put Hamas terrorists back on the streets. (Excerpts of an article by Joshua Spurlock, BFP Israel Mosaic Radio, April 27, 2011)

Prayer Focus

Pray that this new cooperation between Hamas and Fatah does not result in increased violence and terror activity against Israel. Pray that the international community will recognize the danger this alliance presents for Israel and the region.

"For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. But You have saved us from our enemies, and have put to shame those who hated us. In God we boast all day long, and praise Your name forever." (Psalm 44:6-8) [Reported by: Bridges for Peace]

Congress Responds to Gaza News

US Lawmakers Threaten to Halt Funds to Palestinians

As the international community started to respond to reports of an upcoming unity government deal between Palestinian Authority [PA] leader Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party and the Hamas terrorist group, US lawmakers threatened to cut off financial aid to the Palestinian government.

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen pointed out in a statement posted on the committee's Web site that US law forbids giving aid to a government that refuses to accept Israel's right to exist, a stance taken by Hamas.

"The reported agreement between Fatah and Hamas means that a Foreign Terrorist Organization which has called for the destruction of Israel will be part of the Palestinian Authority government," said Ros-Lehtinen. "US taxpayer funds should not and must not be used to support those who threaten US security, our interests, and our vital ally, Israel.

"According to existing US law, such a hybrid government cannot be a recipient of US taxpayer funds because the law stipulates that the PA government must recognize the Jewish state of Israel's right to exist, among other things. Therefore, in order to implement existing law, the US must end assistance to the Palestinian Authority."

Since 2007, Hamas has been excluded from the PA government in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria], following a violent split with Abbas's Fatah party that left Hamas in charge in the Gaza Strip. That has enabled the US to give the PA hundreds of millions of dollars.

Ros-Lehtinen, a Republican, wasn't the only concerned legislator. Rep. Gary Ackerman, a member of Obama's Democrat Party, also raised the prospect of withholding funds to the upcoming Palestinian government.

"As in prior cases, the United States will be compelled by both law and decency to withhold any assistance that could fall into the hands or control or even partial control of anyone reporting to, or belonging to a terrorist entity, as is Hamas. And in the current political climate, even assistance that would otherwise have gone to parts of the Palestinian Authority untainted by terrorism may no longer be salvageable," said Ackerman in a statement on his Web site.

"For months, President Abbas has refused partnership with Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu in pursuing peace negotiations. It now appears that he is writing off partnership with the United States in helping to govern and develop Palestinian society. It's certainly historic leadership. Just not the good kind."

In the region, Iran welcomed the Palestinian agreement. According to a report on the Fars News Agency Web site, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said he believed the move was a step towards Palestinian goals, presumably statehood. Fars paraphrased Salehi as hoping the unity deal would lead to the acquiring of "great victories in confrontations" with Israel. (Excerpts of an article by Joshua Spurlock, BFP Israel Mosaic Radio, April 28, 2011)

Prayer Focus

Pray that the international community will follow the lead of the United States in their reaction to this critical development, recognizing the danger this alliance presents for Israel and the region and refusing to support it.

Virginia AG Ousts King & Spalding Over Defense of Marriage Act

Summary: Atlanta law firm dropped for its "obsequious act of weakness."
In a scathing letter to King & Spalding, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli terminated today his office's two-year relationship with the mega law firm -- a move that shocked the legal community. King & Spalding had been hired by the state in 2009, to provide outside counsel and help represent Virginia's numerous state agencies.

Paul Clement, the well-respected former solicitor general appointed by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio to defend DOMA, abruptly resigned from King & Spalding on April 26, when the firm caved to gay activists' pressures over the case.

Citing a lack of trust, Cuccinelli wrote, "Virginia seeks firms of commitment, courage, strength and toughness, and unfortunately, what the world has learned of King & Spalding, is that your firm utterly lacks such qualities."

Jordan Lorence, senior counsel and senior vice-president of the Office of Strategic Initiatives for the Alliance Defense Fund, praised the Republican attorney general. "The language in the letter is refreshingly strong," he said, "and Cuccinelli is that way." (CitizenLink)

The Meaning Of Marriage Proudly Proclaimed

Earlier this week, I wrote about the effort to defend marriage in America. Sadly, one the nation's most prestigious law firms was unwilling to defend the law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

While American politicians, judges, lawyers and activists debate the meaning of marriage, an estimated two billion people today tuned in to watch the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Those present in Westminster Abbey, and watching around the world, heard Dr. John Hall, Dean of Westminster Abbey, deliver the introduction to the royal wedding, explaining what all the "fuss" was about. Here is an excerpt of his remarks:

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of God and in the face of this congregation, to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony; which is an honourable estate, instituted of God himself, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and his Church; which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence, and first miracle that he wrought, in Cana of Galilee, and is commended in Holy Writ to be honourable among all men . . .

"First, it was ordained for the increase of mankind according to the will of God, and that children might be brought up in the fear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praise of his holy name.

"Secondly, it was ordained in order that the natural instincts and affections, implanted by God, should be hallowed and directed aright; that those who are called of God to this holy estate, should continue therein in pureness of living.

"Thirdly, it was ordained for the mutual society, help, and comfort, that the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adversity."

Listening to those words, I was struck by the contrast of a law firm unwilling to defend the law and a cleric boldly proclaiming the truth of God's law; the confusion of our courts versus the natural law written by the God of Abraham.

The left likes to claim that you cannot legislate morality. But all law is someone's concept of morality -- someone's decision that this is right and that is wrong. The culture war raging in America today is about who gets to decide; what concept of morality will prevail; whose values will our children and grandchildren inherit. Elections have consequences. That is why it is so important for men and women of faith to be fully engaged in the "good fight" for our values. (Gary Bauer)

Remembering David Wilkerson

As most of you are aware, we are not very interested in placing people on pedestals. We believe that all people should be treated with love and honor just like Jesus gave it to us. We aren't impressed by titles or position or fame. So it is with sadness that we have to say goodbye on earth to a man who gave the Lord's love to all regardless of their station in life--even though he was a "Big Deal" in the Christian world: David Wilkerson died in a tragic car accident yesterday.

His book "The Cross and the Switchblade" was instrumental in leading Rosalie to become who she is today. And I have to say the same thing. We saw in Mr. Wilkerson a man who wasn't interested in showing off for the camera or an audience - he simply gave the word as he heard it and agonized over its implications. He cared about people and he loved the Lord. Therefore the word he gave carried true weight- not showmanship, just truth.

The day before 9-11-01, Mr. Wilkerson's church was praying for a conference at their church, which was not far from the Trade Towers in New York. They all in one accord had a bad feeling. They told David and he cancelled the conference. How many pastors do you know would listen to prayer warriors closely enough to hear them from the Spirit of God?That one act alone probably saved the lives of hundreds of people.

Love breeds wisdom. Love purifies the heart so that God's Word is clear and true. Whenever selfish ambition dwells in a heart, then the word is tainted. As we say goodbye to a true man of God, let's endeavor to purge our hearts of selfish ambition, greed, and other sins. Then we will be able to hear the Lord clearly and make a real difference in the lives of those around us. Then when we see David Wilkerson in eternity we will celebrate together what God has done in our hearts!

1. Storms, Tornadoes Ravage South; at least 213 Dead - MSNBC

Dozens of tornadoes spawned by a powerful storm system wiped out entire towns across a wide swath of the U.S. South, killing at least 213 people in the deadliest outbreak in nearly 40 years, and officials said Thursday they expected the death toll to rise.

- Father, we bow before You in repentance and expectancy. We plead for Your mercy over America and ask that Your forgiveness and redemption come to our land.

3. Dollar stung as Fed signals no rush to remove stimulus - Reuters

The dollar sank to a three-year low against a basket of major currencies on Thursday after the Federal Reserve said it would end its bond-buying program in June as planned and appeared in no rush to tighten monetary policy further.

- Father, we once again pray for Your provision and help as our leaders pursue foolish fiscal policies. We continue to plead for wisdom for them.

- "For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever." (Psalm 9:18)

4. Obama sending Panetta to Pentagon, Petraeus to CIA - AP

Obama plans to name CIA Director Leon Panetta as the next secretary of defense and move Gen. David Petraeus, now running the war in Afghanistan, into the CIA chief's job in a major shuffle of the U.S. national security leadership, senior administration officials and other sources said Wednesday.

- Lord, as this administration continues to lurch through its personnel in an effort to fix their own disasters, we pray that You will help the men who take over new jobs, find Your wisdom to be effective in the days to come.

-"Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake." (Psalms 6:4)

5. America's Third War- Is the US Government Arming Mexican Drug Cartels? - Fox News

If you ever watch video or look at pictures of the drug war in Mexico, you'll notice some pretty heavy weapons. This is a war being waged with rockets and plastic explosives, not pea shooters and Saturday Night Specials - You can't buy this stuff at a U.S. gun store. So where do the cartels get it? According to leaked diplomatic cables, there are three sources.

1. U.S. Defense Department shipments to Latin America, known and tracked by the U.S. State Department as "foreign military sales."

2. Weapons ordered by the Mexican government, tracked by the State Department as "direct commercial sales."

3. Aging, but plentiful arsenals of military weapon stores in Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Even though these facts were well-known by the Obama administration, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder, it blamed much of the violence in Mexico on U.S. gun stores.

"More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our border," President Obama said in February 2009.

- Lord, we pray against lies that cover up the truth regarding our government's involvement in Mexican drug violence. We ask for Your intervention against policies which cause the drug wars to increase in violence and death.

- "A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness will utter lies." (Proverbs 14:5)

6. a) UN Fails to Condemn Syrian Violence - VOA News

b) Britain Revokes Wedding Invite for Syrian Envoy U.K. revokes royal wedding invitation to Syrian ambassador due to the country's violent attacks on protesters.

- Lord, while we understand that there are evil influences in the Middle East violence, one small voice against death in the form of a revoked wedding invitation speaks volumes.

-"The Lord tries the righteous; but the wicked and him that loves violence, His soul hates." (Psalm 11:5)

Of Evil and Good: The faith of Founding Fathers

No small amount of controversy has been stirring among Christian circles over the faith of the Founding Fathers of America, their beliefs about Jesus Christ and how followers of "Dominion" or "Kingdom Now" theology are trying to use the Founders to get Christians involved in politics. Dominion theology is the belief that Christians must establish the Kingdom of God here on earth in order to prepare the way for the return of Jesus Christ. Those who believe in Dominion theology, therefore, believe Christians must be involved in high places of government in order to effectively establish this kingdom. It is wrong minded and bad theology in that Jesus himself will establish his kingdom when he returns.

There has been strong evidence provided by filmmaker Christian Pinto that many of the Founding Fathers, while accepting and following the moral code established in the Bible, did not believe in miracles, especially those regarding the virgin birth of Jesus and his resurrection. Thomas Paine, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin are among those Pinto documents through their letters and books who did not believe that the Christ had come in the flesh. Pinto rightly claims that they are as described in 2 John 7, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist."

Many Christians are using these documentations to discredit the Founding Fathers completely as well as an excuse to shun any form of civic responsibility relating to good government. Another Founding Father John Jay, however, on October 12, 1816, said, "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." The scriptures show that God judges nations as well as people. Irrespective of their imperfections, the Founders gave us a nation where Christians have the freedom and right to choose men of truth, who fear God and hate covetousness to govern this nation righteously.

Obama Releases Birth Certificate; Bashes Conservatives
[This article by Gary Bauer was released on Wednesday, April 27.]

The controversy surrounding Obama's birth certificate hit a critical mass this week. Today the White House responded.

A USA Today/Gallup poll released yesterday found that "only 38% of Americans say Obama definitely was born in the USA." Note the word "Americans," not "conservatives," not "Republican primary voters" or "right-wing kooks." A serious poll by Gallup finding that just 38% of Americans are certain the president was born here means a lot of Americans -- Democrats and Independents included -- had doubts. Obama's unwillingness to put the issue to rest was creating a bigger problem for him as his reelection campaign neared.

At a press conference yesterday, CNN's Ed Henry asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney why Obama had not released his long form birth certificate, if for no other reason than to end the debate. When liberals lose CNN, it's time for Plan B.

This morning, the White House released Obama's long form birth certificate. Donald Trump quickly took credit for forcing Obama to act. The president then held a brief press conference to say that the issue had become a distraction from the important problems facing our country. It remains to be seen whether this ends the dispute. There are already calls for him to produce other documents, including his college transcripts.

But here's the line from Obama's speech that caught my attention: "We aren't going to be able to do it [solve problems], if we keep vilifying each other."

The performance was vintage Obama. While condemning vilification, he tried to blame conservatives for distracting him from serious issues. And when it comes to vilification, no one does it better than Obama.

Remember his recent deficit reduction speech? Instead of a serious policy address, we got a hyper-partisan stump speech. Obama accused Republicans of taking away "health insurance for 50 million Americans," kicking "someone's grandparents" out of their nursing home and telling children with Down syndrome to "fend for themselves."

In defending his plan to raise taxes, Obama accused wealthy Americans of being "takers" and said "we can't . . . tell the wealthiest among us, 'Well, you can just relax and go count your money.'" (When he's done "spreading the wealth around" they won't have much money left to count!)

When gas prices skyrocket in part because of his anti-business policies, he attacks energy companies, promising punitive tax hikes and task forces to investigate oil companies and "speculators" for price gouging. And whenever there is bad economic news, it's always George W. Bush's mess that he's trying to clean up.

By the way, after Obama told us that we have serious problems to deal with, he and Michelle left the White House for Chicago, where they will tape an appearance on Oprah's show. Then he's heading to New York for more fundraisers. It seems as though Obama believes the nation's most urgent problem is his own reelection.

More on Planned Parenthood

The Facts of Life

Considering the rap sheet on Planned Parenthood, most people would probably agree that we have plenty of reasons to defund Planned Parenthood. But here's another one for good measure. A Massachusetts affiliate of Planned Parenthood has launched a new website--paid for with state tax dollars--that promotes secret abortions to teenagers. The page promises teenagers that "getting an abortion is much easier than it sounds here" and then discourages adoption, saying it is "pretty rough on people." Further down, the website goes on to explain how kids can dodge state parental involvement laws. As if that weren't enough, the clinic talks about the fungibility of government funds--which means that federal law may b an Planned Parenthood from using taxpayer funds to pay for abortions, but thanks to that money, Planned Parenthood can free up other resources for its abortion business.

If you've followed the debate, you know that Planned Parenthood has thrown around some misleading statistics about what it does and doesn't do. To help make sense of the confusion, FRC put together a fact sheet with information that you can trust, including some basic details on the abortion giant with citations to back up our numbers. For example, did you know that in 2009, a baby was aborted in a U.S. Planned Parenthood clinic almost every 95 seconds? Or did you realize that according to its annual reports, this "tax-exempt, nonprofit" has made almost $500 million in profit over the past 10 years? In its own reports, the organization admits that out of its total services for pregnant women, abortion made up approximately 98 percent! For the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on Planned Parenthood, click here! (Family Research Council)

In Iraq: A Resurrection of Violence

On Easter, A Resurrection of Violence

Sunday was supposed to be a celebration of new life. Instead, it was a time for Iraqis to bury more dead. Four more of our Christian brothers were killed on Easter when a bomb, planted by Muslim militants, exploded outside a Baghdad church. It was the second deadly blast in six months, each one leaving believers more terrified than the last. "Our life in Iraq is full of fear," Father Hanna Saad Sirop told his congregation, "but we have to live in faith and trust . . .. We have to trust Almighty God."

About 800,000 Christians are doing their trusting outside the confines of Iraq. Since the war, Iraq's Christian community has been exposed, vulnerable, and--perhaps worst of all--shrinking. Half of the 1.5 million believers in the country have fled, many of them convinced that the help they need is not coming.

America promised to introduce more freedom to Iraq in the post-Saddam Hussein era. Instead, religious liberty seems to be worse off now than before we came. If the U.S. is financially responsible for rebuilding Iraq, why can't we get commitments to defend the church? Ours is a nation that oppressed people look to as a symbol of peace and refuge, yet our hands are seemingly tied.

In China, the church was under similar attack. Another 30 Christians were taken into police custody for observing the holiest day on the church's calendar. As in Iraq, American leaders have looked the other way. Could we speak out more forcefully in defense of Chinese religious liberty if we didn't owe trillions to the Chinese? Almost certainly. This is another reminder that our national debt is a moral issue--and until we resolve it, the worldwide church will be what suffers. (Family Research Council)

Kansas Gov. Brownback Aims to Cut Planned Parenthood Funding

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, a Republican, wants to stop sending tax dollars to Planned Parenthood, beginning with the budget year that starts July 1. His proposed budget reportedly would redirect about $300,000 in federal family planning funds from Planned Parenthood to state and local heath clinics.

"Gov. Brownback, along with the overwhelming majority of Kansans, opposes taxpayer subsidy of abortions," said Brownback spokeswoman Sherriene Jones-Sontag.

"We oppose the taking of innocent human life," said Kathy Ostrowski, state legislative director of Kansans for Life.

And in Indiana, the Senate voted last week to cut funding of Planned Parenthood. (CitizenLink)

(To listen, go here.)
I was sure by now, God, that You would have reached down,
and wiped our tears away . . .
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen,
and it's still raining.
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you".
And as Your mercy falls,
I raise my hands and praise
the God, who gives and takes away.
And I'll praise you in this storm,
and I will lift my hands.
For You are who You are,
no matter where I am.
And every tear I've cried,
You hold in Your hand.
You never left my side.
And though my heart is torn,
I will praise You in this storm
I remember when I stumbled in the wind.
You heard my cry to You,
and raised me up again.
My strength is almost gone. How can I carry on,
if I can't find You?
And as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you".
And as Your mercy falls,
I raise my hands and praise
the God, who gives and takes away
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth

1. BREAKING - Rev. David Wilkerson Killed in TX Car Crash - CBN News

Rev. David Wilkerson, founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York City and author of the well-known book The Cross and the Switchblade, was killed Wednesday in a car accident, according to a source close to CBN News. He was 79.

Wilkerson's wife Gwen was also involved in the crash and rushed to the hospital, along with the other driver.

Wilkerson posted a blog dated April 27 -- the day of his death. In the post, titled "When All Means Fail," he encouraged those facing difficulty to "hold fast" and stand strong in faith.

"To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: Weeping will last through some dark, awful nights, and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, "I am with you,'" Wilkerson wrote. "Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail-his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world."

Read all of Wilkerson's final blog here.

- Tonight we mourn with those who mourn at the news of the sudden passing of this mighty man of God. Rev. David Wilkerson is one who has touched generations of souls with the convicting power of Jesus Christ, and for our need to repent and to find forgiveness at the Cross. Our comfort is that we know where Rev. Wilkerson abides tonight, and that the peace of God can and will comfort those who grieve. Thank the Lord for the life of Reverend David Wilkerson. Amen.

2. White House Releases Copy of Long Form of Obama's Birth Certificate From Hawaii - NewsMax

The White House has released the long form of President Barack Obama's birth certificate in response to festering questions about whether he was born in the United States.

- God, the Certificate of Live Birth of Barack Hussein Obama II that has been produced appears to have been altered and fails to be true and correct. We need your help, Lord, to root out the lies and forgeries and bring to light the absolute true Birth Certificate so that we do not suffer under the outrageous acts of a man leading our country without having the highest credentials necessary to lead America.

Take us out of the hands of an impostor who at this point has never proven his eligibility to hold the office of president. God, set our nation upright to stand on solid footing and be assured that we are guided by a God-fearing, Bible-believing man or woman of God. Block the way for him to continue in this office as president until it has been proven by a pristine Birth Certificate that he is an honest and true citizen of the United States of America. In Jesus Name.

- "Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and show us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth." (Isaiah 48:9)

3. White House Blasts Franklin Graham for Birther Comment - NewsMax

The White House angrily lashed out Monday against renowned evangelical leader the Rev. Franklin Graham for questioning President Obama's birthplace.

Franklin Graham is a man of God and woe be to the man who moves against him. Watch out. God is with this man and He will fight for him. He spoke the truth. In Jesus' Name.

- "You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears; you do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One Jesus Christ: of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers." (Acts 7:51-52)

- "I will praise You, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto You among the nations. For Your mercy is great unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens: let Your glory be above all the earth." (Psalm 57:9-11)

China and the US will hold economic talks next month as the two countries work towards reaching a common ground on currency policy.

So we call on the God of heaven to come forth with great power and intervene for the United States and China regarding this issue. Save America. Save the righteous in America and China and cause those who follow a wicked agenda to fall flat. We pray God will encircle America with His great and mighty arms and save us. In Jesus Name.

The Daily Jot

A nation in despair: Who is to blame?

When the presidential candidate from Illinois said he wanted to remake America, a slight majority of Americans thought it was a good idea. And they voted him into office. Since then, gasoline prices have doubled; the housing market has crashed; the automobile industry has sucked billions out of the taxpayer's treasury; the Middle East has been destabilized in favor of terrorism; our boys are being killed at record numbers in Afghanistan; we have entered a war in Libya in league with the very terrorists we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan; the national debt and deficit have soared to record levels; the US Dollar is being replaced as the world's reserve currency; food prices have risen over 35%; and much more.

This government is spending our money, our children's money and their children's money into oblivion. This government is drunk on social programs to the point that most are either employed by it or are receiving from it. This government is promoting abortion at the expense of life; homosexuality at the expense of marriage; fiscal disaster at the expense of fiscal responsibility. Some are angry at Congress; others at the White House. Some just throw up their hands and say they can do nothing about it. Some say its God's judgment. Some want revolution. Some say the Church should not participate in government. Some say Christians should not be involved in government. Some are just so frustrated, they don't know what to do.

You might say: I write my congressman; I sign petitions; I make phone calls. You do well. But this is not about politics. This is about the spiritual condition of the hearts of our countrymen. As Christians, we are called to the Great Commission. If we as Christians were doing what we were commanded to do--rather than being inwardly focused on self indulgent doctrines of man--this nation would not have abortion, nor would it exalt homosexuality, nor would it covet our money and property because the majority would know Christ and be disciples in the truest of ways. Just as the Liberty of Christ requires personal responsibility, civic responsibility is required in a representative government. Our passion for Christ is a reflection of this nation.

- For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. (Psalm 91:11)

By their fruits you shall know them--The White House and Christ

In Matthew 7:15-16, Jesus warns, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits." He repeats again in verse 20, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." Jesus also told a parable about an evil sharecropper. The landowner sent his son to collect the fruits owed him from the land. The farmer killed the son. When he finished the parable, Jesus said in Matthew 21:43 "Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." Both as individuals and as a nation we are known by our fruits. Now discern from this recent exchange at the White House.

Carney continued, "I'm glad you're asking these key important questions, guys. The fact is, Obama took his family to church in a very high-profile way to celebrate Easter. I think it was highly visible to most Americans. And he -- as a devoted Christian, he believes it's a very important holiday for him personally, for his family and for Christians around the country." The White House press office evidently is very defensive about this as at the top of its website, it notes that Obama delivered remarks about Easter at a breakfast last week. He said something about Easter last week, attended church for show--as he is not known for attending church--and he is a "devoted Christian."

Why do you suppose then, this guy has issued greetings for every Muslim holiday since he has been in office, but has shunned many Christian prayer events, and even, as the reporter said, "The highest Christian holiday"? Are these the actions of a "devoted" Christian? Incidentally, the last question of Monday's news conference was about Franklin Graham saying that Obama has some explaining to do regarding his birth record as well as The Muslim Brotherhood infiltrating every level of government. Carney replied: "I would just say I think it's unfortunate that a religious leader would choose Easter Sunday to make preposterous charges. And I'll leave it at that." And so will I.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Obama Ignores Easter

Obama Ignores Easter; Recognizes Muslim Holidays

There is a report today noting that the Obama White House failed to issue a statement recognizing Good Friday or Easter. Yet the president did not fail to recognize at least three Muslim holidays last year with official White House statements.

Even the liberal media felt compelled to ask questions about the perceived slight to Christians at today's White House press briefing. Press Secretary Jay Carney tried to deflect the questions, but ultimately he had no explanation for why a statement wasn't issued.

Regardless of what the White House recognizes, most Americans believe their country is inextricably linked with Judeo-Christian notions of liberty, justice, and the relationship between government and man. That view of America is the subject of my Human Events column this week, which you can read here. (Gary Bauer)

Impending Invasion of Israel

A Time to Pray!

In late March, 2011, a battle cry was released in the Middle East as the Palestinian Authority recreated a Third Intifada page, which had previously been banned by Facebook. This page was calling for the destruction of the State of Israel and encouraging the gathering of millions to invade Israel's borders on May 15, 2011. Once the page was removed from Facebook, additional pages with the same call to action have been posted. Since their creation, these Facebook pages have gathered hundreds of thousands of "Likes," with similar pages gathering over 3,000,000 votes of support.

The "march into Israel" has been scheduled for May 15th-the date of the establishment of Israel's statehood and a day the Arab's refer to as "Nakba" or "Tragedy." These pages are gathering support and promoting the destruction of Israel with words like: "One billion Moslems for the destruction of Israel." "The historic march toward Palestine, 15.05.11." "Billion Muslims to exterminate Israel."

As Israel's neighbors are calling for her destruction, we are calling for Christians everywhere to take a stand to pray and fast for Israel in the days ahead. In order to facilitate this cause, we have created a group called One New Man United, which will exist as and under a Facebook page in order to raise awareness.

The One New Man United cause is looking for Christians around the globe who will unite in prayer and fasting on May 12, 13, 14 to Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, all of Israel, and her neighbors.

On Friday, May 13th at 7:30 p.m. CT, One New Man United will be hosting a live prayer service, which will be streamed live from, allowing supporters of One New Man United to come together in prayer-2 days before the scheduled "march on Israel."

Will you consider joining us as an effective, unified Body-as One New Man United-lifting up Israel in support through prayer and fasting? If you would, and would like more information about One New Man United, please go online to

Thank you for your support!

Supreme Court Backs Religious School Aid

A divided U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that taxpayers have no legal right to challenge a tax break worth millions to donors supporting private religious schools. The 5-4 decision left intact an Arizona tax subsidy that was enacted because the state constitution forbids direct aid to religious schools. The court's ruling put an implicit stamp of approval on similar laws in at least six other states that offer tax credits for those who support religious schools. And it is likely to encourage other states to do the same because tax credits are more politically acceptable than public aid to religious schools.

Justice Elena Kagan, in her first written dissent, spoke for the court's liberal bloc in saying the ruling "offers a road map - more truly, a one-step instruction" for those who seek public money to aid religion. Use tax credits, not cash grants, she advised.

The ruling goes further than ever before in shielding public subsidies for religion from a legal challenge. The First Amendment bars the government from promoting "an establishment of religion." And since the 1960s, the high court has invoked the First Amendment to strike down a series of state laws that send public money to parochial schools.

In all those decisions, taxpayers had sued in federal court, arguing the subsidy for religion violated the First Amendment. The Arizona case began the same way when several taxpayers sued to challenge the state's tax credits. They pointed out that some tuition support groups gave money only to children who attended certain church schools. And their ads told taxpayers they could support a child in a religious school and "it won't cost you a dime."

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this scheme an unconstitutional subsidy for teaching religion, but in Monday's decision Justice Anthony M. Kennedy threw out the entire lawsuit, holding that the objecting taxpayers had no standing to sue.

- Give thanks to the Lord for allowing justice to prevail in the freedom to educate children as parents deem prudent with their tax dollar credits. Thank the Lord for this nation's righteous judges who desire to see its citizens' educational needs and choices met with equity.

Gas Prices Going Up

The national average per gallon of gasoline has risen for 28 straight days, now at $3.83. According to USA Today's research, gasoline prices across the nation rose 33 cents a gallon on average the past two weeks.

New York has been added to the growing list of states where gas prices are topping $4 per gallon. This past Sunday, the Empire State became the sixth state to top $4 for the average price of a gallon of gas, joining Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii and Illinois, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge. The average price of gas also rose to more than $4 per gallon in Washington, D.C. this past Saturday.

The next states to join the list could be Michigan, which has gas for $3.95 per gallon on average, and Indiana, where the average price is $3.94. Nevada, Washington and Wisconsin are close behind.

Hawaii has the highest price in the U.S. at $4.48 per gallon. As of this article, Wyoming has the lowest, at $3.54.

For American drivers, the $4 mark harkens back to the summer of 2008, when oil rose to $147 per barrel and gas prices topped out at $4.11 per gallon before the economy went into a tailspin. The rapid increase at the pump follows a parallel rise in oil. Since Labor Day, oil has risen 48 percent and U.S. gas prices have gone up 42 percent. The increases gained momentum in mid-February when a popular rebellion in Libya turned violent and shut down the country's exports. Crude has jumped 30 percent since then, with gas prices gaining 22 percent.

Rep. Doc Hastings (R-WA), who is chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, has catalogued ways he says the Obama administration has frustrated oil production, from suspended drilling leases to increased red tape. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) posted highlights of the list on his website.

"Since this administration has taken over, they have done everything to block energy development in this country," Hastings said.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who may challenge Obama next year, suggested that Obama is quietly cheering for even higher prices at the pump.

"The Obama energy policy to me seems very clear. It's to increase the cost of energy so Americans will use less of it," Barbour said at a conference organized by the Wall Street Journal. "When you shut in the Gulf of Mexico, and American domestic oil production goes down, to me that is bad policy for our country."

But White House spokesman Jay Carney said there's one problem with this line of argument: Domestic oil production last year rose to its highest level since 2003.

According to the federal government's Energy Information Administration, U.S. oil production jumped nearly 3 percent last year, while oil imports fell. While the administration did suspend some Western drilling leases near national parks early on, the administration argues that oil producers still have 41 million acres in which to drill. (Contributors: Associated Press; USA Today; NPR; House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH))

- Pray that our national leaders would be given wisdom to stimulate oil production in ways that will benefit the consumer and promote effective use of our national resources. Ask for God's intervention into matters of wise conservation of our natural resources in order to be good stewards of His gifts.

- "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate."
