1. 19TH KNESSET TO SEE RIGHT, LEFT VIRTUALLY TIED
The Central Election Committee released the final results of the 2013 general election in the early hours of Wednesday [January 23] morning. The joint Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu ticket was able to secure 31 Knesset [Parliament] seats, a significant drop from pre-election polls that predicted the ruling party and its ally would win 42 mandates. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a victory speech shortly after midnight, saying: "I'm proud to be your prime minister. I thank you for giving me a chance, for the third time, to lead the State of Israel. It is a great privilege and a great responsibility," he said.
Tuesday's true victor was, however, journalist-turned-politician Yair Lapid, whose party, Yesh Atid, was able to win 19 mandates; cementing its status as the second-largest party in the Knesset. The results are expected to make it tough for Netanyahu to form a coalition. The prime minister vowed to form as broad a coalition as possible, saying that aside from the Likud's natural partners, he considers Yesh Atid a "true partner" in government.
Israel's 2013 election saw record voter turnout. According to the Central Election Committee, 66.6% of Israelis exercised their right to vote, as well as 80% of IDF soldiers.

2. FATAH'S FACEBOOK: GLORIFYING TERROR, INCITING HATRED, AND ERASING ISRAEL
January 1st is the date Fatah celebrates as the anniversary of its first terror attack, which it calls "Launch Day." Palestinian Media Watch has examined how Fatah used its Facebook page to mark its 48th anniversary. The page glorifies violence and terror as acts of heroism, and depicts a world without Israel. The Facebook page is filled with pictures of automatic rifles and slogans venerating arms. In some pictures, young children are carrying rifles.
Other pictures show maps of "Palestine" that include the Palestinian Authority [PA] areas as well as all of Israel. Fatah's page glorifies Saddam Hussein and memorializes terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, who led the most lethal terror attack in Israel's history: a bus hijacking attack that killed 37 civilians. In addition to being PA Chairman, Mahmoud Abbas is Chairman of Fatah as well.
As part of its celebrations, Fatah posted two pictures showing young children holding automatic rifles that are almost as large as the children. One picture has the words:
"The 48th anniversary of the Launch of the Palestinian revolution" "My mother gave birth to me to fight, and Fatah gave me the gun."
Terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, who led the Coastal Road terror attack in 1978 in which terrorists hijacked a bus and murdered 37 civilians, is also glorified with her picture and the words:"On this day in 1959 Martyr (Shahida) Dalal Mughrabi was born, hero of the 'Martyr Kamal Adwan' mission, bride of Jaffa and the gentle energizing force of Fatah." The picture itself is inscribed with the words: "All songs call to you, Dalal - the path to the homeland."

3. BRITISH MP: JEWS DIDN'T LEARN THE LESSON FROM THE HOLOCAUST
A Liberal Democrat MP in Britain faces expulsion from the party for saying Jews had not learned from the murder of six million in the Holocaust in their treatment of Palestinian Authority Arabs, the Daily Mail reports. David Ward, MP for Bradford East, wrote on his own website that he was "saddened" that Jews "could within a few years of liberation from the death camps be inflicting atrocities on Palestinians - on a daily basis." "Having visited Auschwitz twice - once with my family and once with local schools - I am saddened that the Jews, who suffered unbelievable levels of persecution during the Holocaust, could within a few years of liberation from the death camps be inflicting atrocities on Palestinians in the new State of Israel and continue to do so on a daily basis in the West Bank and Gaza," Ward wrote.
He later defended his comments in interviews, saying they were a "just a statement of fact", and adding that "it appears that the suffering by the Jews has not transformed their views on how others should be treated." His remarks were made ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day on Sunday, reported the Daily Mail. He has been summoned to a meeting with party whips on Monday, but has insisted he stood by the statement and its timing and claimed it was "regrettable" he had been reprimanded.
Earlier this week another British politician exploited the upcoming Holocaust Memorial Day to attack Israel, saying the Jewish state has "evolved into a racist oppressor." In the comments posted to his Facebook page, Lee Jasper of the Respect Party wrote, "We are asked to remember that which Israel has forgotten, that religious & racial hatred is a sin against God," wrote Jasper on his page, as he incorrectly noted the date of Holocaust Memorial Day. Liberal Democrat Baroness Jenny Tonge has twice been fired from the frontbench for her anti-Israel comments. In 2004, she claimed she might become a suicide bomber if she lived in Judea, Samaria, or Gaza, and was sacked as the party's spokesman on children's issues.

4. REPORT: 4 GAZANS HURT BY IDF GUNFIRE
Palestinian sources in Gaza reported three Palestinians were injured by IDF gunfire and another was hurt by a gas grenade in the north of the Strip, east of the city of Jabalia, on Friday. According to the report, the four sustained light to moderate wounds and were taken to a local hospital.
The IDF said in response that dozens of Palestinians illegally gathered next to the Gaza border, noting that some rioted and tried to breach the fence. The troops attempted to disperse the crowd, hurting one Palestinian in the process, the army said.
Several incidents that saw IDF troops firing at Palestinians at the border have been reported since the brief war between Israel and Hamas in November. The army explained in the past that the Palestinians often enter the closed buffer zone near the border and try to damage the fence.
A Palestinian was hurt by IDF gunfire near Beit Lahia, also in Gaza's north, in a similar incident last Friday.

5. FROM OFFICER IN MEXICAN NAVY TO SOLDIER IN KFIR BRIGADE
Sgt. Yaakov Mizrahi, 27, is a combat soldier in the Shimshon Battalion of the Kfir Brigade. Unlike the soldiers who serve with him, however, he is in the midst of his second round of military service, having served for six years in the Mexican Navy. What made Sgt. Mizrahi decide to become the first in his family to leave everything and come to Israel to enlist? "In my family there was always the feeling that we should contribute to the country, even from far away," he explained. "I decided the best path for me would be to enlist in the IDF."
According to Sgt. Mizrahi, the main factor that motivated him to move to Israel and join the IDF was the story of his uncle, who volunteered in the Mexican Air Force as a pilot during the Second World War. During the war, he served in Syria and spent time in Israel, where he saw the troubled life people led under the British Mandate. Afterwards, he felt he had missed an opportunity to help because he had no citizenship. He brought his story back to his family in Mexico, and since then the family has felt it their duty to contribute to Israel.
"There is great importance in what I chose to do." Before enlisting in the IDF, Yaakov came to Israel to study, arriving during the Second Lebanon War. "Following the war was a difficult time," said Sgt. Mizrahi. The results of the war and the fact that his family was thousands of miles away were not easy to handle. Nonetheless, Sgt. Mizrahi decided not to return to Mexico, but rather to enlist as a combat soldier in the IDF.

6. FORMER PM SHARON SHOWS POSITIVE SIGNS IN MRI
Brain scans performed on former prime minister Ariel Sharon this week suggested there was a chance for some improvement in his condition, an aide to the former prime minister told AFP on Friday. Sharon has been comatose since he suffered a stroke seven years ago. Raanan Gissin said that Sharon underwent MRI scans at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba on Thursday. "The test was routine, but the results not entirely so," Gissin told AFP. "There was some kind of positive indication." He did not offer any further details.
In October 2011, Gilad Sharon told The New York Times that his father was "responsive and gaining weight." "When he is awake, he looks at me and moves his fingers when I ask him to," Gilad Sharon told the Times. "I am sure he hears me." Ariel Sharon, 84, has been in a coma since his second stroke, in January 2006. (His first stroke took place the previous month.)
Gilad Sharon said that doctors encouraged him and his brother, former MK Omri Sharon, to let their father die after his second stroke. They refused, with Gilad stating that he dreamed that the medical staff would tell him there is no hope for Ariel Sharon, "but he stared at me with this look, with those green-gray eyes of his, and I knew I would never give up, and that I simply would not leave him."

7. DEAD SEA RISES BY 10CM
The much talked about rainstorm that swept through Israel earlier this month has led to great news for the country's bodies of water. The Dead Sea rose by 10 centimeters [4 inches]-the first recorded increase in volume in a decade. The Dead Sea's shore has been steadily receding over the years and numerous campaigns to raise awareness for its plight have take place. The salty body of water is fed by the Jordan River and streams in the Judean Hills. The stormy weather flooded many of these streams and the runoff waters pushed the Dead Sea to its new level.
Moreover, the Sea of Galilee hit record levels during and after the storm, rising by more than 70 centimeters [27.5 inches]. The Sea of Galilee's water also feeds the Jordan River, which in turn feeds the Dead Sea.
In related news, the World Bank recently approved an Israeli-Palestinian-Jordanian project that they say could save the Dead Sea. According to a Globes report, the [US] $10 billion plan will see a mostly underground pipeline built from the north of the Jordanian city of Aqaba to the Dead Sea.
Environmentalists fought against the 10-year project, saying the new canal could destroy the sea's fragile and unique ecosystem.

I have just posted a commentary by Khaled Abu Toameh. Khaled speaks out about the terrorists under PA/PLO leader Mahmoud Abbas's authority who are once again loose on the streets in Judea and Samaria. These terrorists are paid salaries by Fatah. In addition, the US and the EU both provide funding and training for the Arab security forces, many of whom are members of the US-designated terrorist group the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
After keeping a low profile for a few years, the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades -- part of PA/PLO leader Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah terrorist group, has resurfaced on the streets in Judea and Samaria. It's time for the US and EU, who fund and train the PA/PLO "security forces", to demand that Abbas rein in his Fatah-paid terrorists. (Emet News Service)

2. MORSI, MOSLEM BROTHERHOOD ANTI-SEMITIC STATEMENTS FOUND
The New York Times' January 14 report on the Middle East Media Research Institute's (MEMRI) videos of Egyptian Mohamed Morsi's 2010 anti-Semitic statements inexplicably omitted the larger story of the Muslim Brotherhood's decades-long intrinsic anti-Semitism. The Investigative Project on Terrorism has uncovered comments going back to 2004 showing a pattern of pure anti-Semitic comments made by Morsi and other Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
MEMRI has routinely covered these sorts of bigoted and hate-filled statements from throughout the Islamic world that most media outlets such as the Times have refused to cover since the late 1990s. Morsi's comments reflect the Muslim Brotherhood's intrinsic anti-Semitism that is easily obtainable dating back to its founding in 1928.
The MEMRI videos cited by the New York Times earlier this month show Morsi referring to Jews as "the descendants of apes and pigs" and saying that Muslims should "nurse our children and our grandchildren on hatred for them: for Zionists, for Jews - "Morsi also invoked the Quran during the same speech, calling the Zionists "traitors to every covenant and convention" and saying that "the Jews are the most hostile enemies of the Muslims."References to Jews as "apes" and "pigs" also are repeatedly found in the speeches of the man many liberal Egyptians regard as the real power behind Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohammed Badie. According to Germany's Der Spiegel, Morsi regularly meets with Badie and has shown that he expresses obedience to the supreme guide. Badie returned to the theme in a June 14, 2012 speech on the eve of Morsi's election.
- Praise the Lord for the investigative work of the team of people who keep us informed about the Moslems and the plottings of the Moslem Brotherhood. Ask the Lord to remove Morsi from his position of power in Egypt, for Morsi is really hurting Egypt. Ask the Lord to bless MEMRI for their record-keeping and archives. Cleanse Egypt of these rabid terrorists. Put into office those who would be friends with Israel.

3. IRAN ISSUES THREATENING WARNING AGAINST ATTACK ON SYRIA
Any foreign attack on Syria would be considered an attack on Iran, a senior Iranian official warned Saturday as the first Patriot missile batteries were declared operational along Turkey's tense border with Syria. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization's decision to deploy six Patriot missile batteries in Turkish borderlands has rankled the Syrian government and its chief allies, Iran and Russia. Tehran and Moscow view the move as a provocation that could escalate hostilities and widen the almost 2-year-old Syrian conflict. About 400 troops from the United States, Germany and the Netherlands are expected to accompany the Patriot batteries.
The comments Saturday by Ali Akbar Velayati, a top aide to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, are among Tehran's strongest public declarations to date of support for Syrian President Bashar Assad, Iran's major ally in the Arab world. Velayati noted Syria's crucial role in the "golden resistance chain" against Israel and the United States. The Iran-led "resistance" front includes Syria, Lebanon-based Hezbollah and the Palestinian group Hamas. "An attack on Syria would be considered an attack on Iran and Iran's allies," Velayati was quoted as telling the semiofficial Mehr news agency. Iran's defense minister, Ahmad Vahidi, also on Saturday warned against foreign intervention in Syria and assailed NATO's deployment of Patriot missiles as likely to bring "harmful consequences for the Syrian people," the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
- This bluster from Iran sounds like bullying. Meanwhile, Iran keeps its control on Syria. Pray that this distraction of the Iranian government will continue so that Iran cannot carry out its plans to destroy Israel. Ask the Lord to reveal Iran''s plans for Syria. America must be removed from any funding of monies and equipment for these Moslem nations. Ask for wisdom for our leaders as they deal with the terrorists and jihadists.

4. BRITISH COCAINE USERS HELPING FUND ISLAMIC TERROR GROUPS BEHIND ALGERIAN SIEGE AND MALI CONFLICT
Cocaine snorted in the pubs and clubs of Britain is helping finance the al-Qaeda factions behind the Algerian hostage siege and the Islamist takeover of northern Mali, The Sunday Telegraph has been told. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and allied terrorist groups are thought to be raking in millions of dollars every year by providing armed "escorts" for traffickers smuggling the drug across the Sahara. The militants are profiting from a trade that is exploding as South American cartels channel their product to European markets through Africa.
With old routes via the Caribbean now heavily policed, cocaine is increasingly being smuggled by boat and plane to poverty-stricken West Africa, where entire governments are now effectively on the drug barons' payrolls. It is then trafficked north across the desert to Europe - right through Mali and other areas controlled by AQIM and other Islamist terror groups, which exact a "fee" of around $2,000 for every kilo trafficked. "Increasing amounts of cocaine is reaching markets in Britain and Europe from West Africa through AQIM territory and with AQIM protection," said Matt Levitt, a former counter-terrorism official in the administration of George W Bush, who is now director of The Washington Institute's Stein Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence.
- Using drugs just causes trouble. Pray that the British, and users in other European nations will experience such a painful reaction to their use of cocaine that they will never use the drug again. Ask the Lord to lift their addictions so that they can realize how they are helping the terrorists, who have already made their presence known in Britain. Pray that these users will meet Jesus and receive salvation in Him, even the Moslem users in Britain.

1. COURT: OBAMA APPOINTMENTS UNCONSTITUTIONAL
A federal appeals court has ruled that President Obama violated the Constitution when he bypassed the Senate to fill vacancies on a labor relations panel.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit says Obama did not have the power to make recess appointments earlier this year to the National Labor Relations Board.
Obama claims he acted properly because the Senate was away for the holidays. But the court says the Senate technically stayed in session when lawmakers gaveled in and out every few days for so-called "pro forma" sessions.
GOP lawmakers used the tactic specifically to prevent Obama from using his recess power to fill vacancies in an agency they claimed was too pro-union.
The Obama administration is expected to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. (Fox News)

2. THE MOST DANGEROUS SENTENCE IN OBAMA'S ADDRESS
In an otherwise unmemorable second inaugural speech, I was struck by one sentence: "But we are also heirs to those who won the peace and not just the war, who turned sworn enemies into the surest of friends, and we must carry those lessons into this time as well."
Two points: First, our forebears were only able to "win the peace" because they first crushed our enemies in war. But under President Obama we're not committed to winning our wars. We're committed to ending them. Does Obama really think we're going to win the peace after not winning the war?
Second, think about the formulation-"and not just." Surely President Obama should have said this: "we are also heirs to those who won the peace as well as the war..." But he didn't say that. The formulation Obama chose-"and not just the war"-suggests that Obama believes that it's no big deal to win a war, and the greater achievement is winning the peace. With respect to World War II, this view is ludicrous. With respect to today's world, this view is dangerous. (The Weekly Standard)

3. OBAMA ASKS MILITARY LEADERS IF THEY WILL "FIRE ON U.S. CITIZENS
2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jim Garrow shockingly claims he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administration's "litmus test" for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens.
Garrow was nominated three years ago for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize and is the founder of The Pink Pagoda Girls, an organization dedicated to rescuing baby girls from "gendercide" in China. Garrow has been personally involved in "helping rescue more than 36,000 Chinese baby girls from death." He is a public figure, not an anonymous voice on the Internet, which makes his claim all the more disturbing.
"I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new "litmus test" in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. "The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not". Those who will not are being removed," Garrow wrote on his Facebook page, later following up the post by adding the man who told him is, "one of America's foremost military heroes," whose goal in divulging the information was to "sound the alarm." Garrow's claim is even more explosive given that the country is in the throes of a national debate about gun control, with gun rights advocates keen to insist that the founders put the second amendment in the Constitution primarily as a defense against government tyranny. It also follows reports on Sunday that General James Mattis, head of the United States Central Command, "is being told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned."
Concerns over US troops being given orders to fire on American citizens in the event of mass gun confiscation first arose in 1995 when hundreds of Marines at 29 Palms, California were given a survey as part of an academic project by Navy Lieutenant Commander Ernest Guy Cunningham which asked the Marines if they would, "Fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the United States government."
The survey was subsequently leaked because many of the Marines who took it were shocked by the tone of the question.
The US Military has clearly outlined innumerable civil emergency scenarios under which troops would be authorized to fire on U.S. citizens. (Info wars)

She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an "assault weapon." The move would essentially transfer sensitive battery technology with "key military applications," according to one group that is opposing the sale.

A federal appeals court has ruled that President Obama violated the Constitution when he bypassed the Senate to fill vacancies on a labor relations panel.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit says Obama did not have the power to make recess appointments earlier this year to the National Labor Relations Board.
Obama claims he acted properly because the Senate was away for the holidays. But the court says the Senate technically stayed in session when lawmakers gaveled in and out every few days for so-called "pro forma" sessions.
GOP lawmakers used the tactic specifically to prevent Obama from using his recess power to fill vacancies in an agency they claimed was too pro-union.

In an otherwise unmemorable second inaugural speech, I was struck by one sentence: "But we are also heirs to those who won the peace and not just the war, who turned sworn enemies into the surest of friends, and we must carry those lessons into this time as well."
Two points: First, our forebears were only able to "win the peace" because they first crushed our enemies in war. But under President Obama we're not committed to winning our wars. We're committed to ending them. Does Obama really think we're going to win the peace after not winning the war?
Second, think about the formulation-"and not just." Surely President Obama should have said this: "we are also heirs to those who won the peace as well as the war..." But he didn't say that. The formulation Obama chose-"and not just the war"-suggests that Obama believes that it's no big deal to win a war, and the greater achievement is winning the peace. 2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jim Garrow shockingly claims he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administration's "litmus test" for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens.
Garrow was nominated three years ago for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize and is the founder of The Pink Pagoda Girls, an organization dedicated to rescuing baby girls from "gendercide" in China. Garrow has been personally involved in "helping rescue more than 36,000 Chinese baby girls from death." He is a public figure, not an anonymous voice on the Internet, which makes his claim all the more disturbing.
"I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new "litmus test" in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. "The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not". Those who will not are being removed," Garrow wrote on his Facebook page, later following up the post by adding the man who told him is, "one of America's foremost military heroes," whose goal in divulging the information was to "sound the alarm."
