Senior Israeli officials and their American counterparts opened a series of meetings Thursday in a bid to formulate a new economic assistance agreement for the next 10 years.

4. US, Israel holding talks on renewed aid package - Jerusalem Post; ICEJ

A senior US State Department official told The Jerusalem Post today that the first of several meeting between the US and Israel to negotiate a new aid package for the Jewish State was "extremely useful." The current 10-year aid program expires this year and in light of expanded threats - such as a nuclear Iran, Hizb'Allah's rearmament, and Hamas influence in the PA territories - Israeli officials are seeking to import another decade-long plan. The American official told The Post that the US agrees with Israeli security assessments, but there are not yet any solid dollar figures being discussed. Currently, US economic aid to Israel has already been phased out and military assistance will stand at $2.4 billion at the end of the current program.

5. Iraqi children arrive in Israel for heart surgery - Ynet News; ICEJ

Ynet News ran a story today on three Kurdish children suffering from heart defects that arrived in Israel from Iraq yesterday to undergo heart surgery. Ahmad, 13, Iman, 6, and one-year-old Lizan will be operated on by Israeli cardiologists as part of the humanitarian project 'Save a Child's Heart.' Since the association was founded 12 years ago, more than 1,600 children from 26 different countries, including the Palestinian Authority, have undergone surgery in Israel.
