1. Permanent UN Security Council Members Begin Work On Iran Resolution - AP

The five permanent Security Council members and Germany began work Monday on a new U.N. resolution to pressure Iran to suspend parts of its nuclear program, but said they were still committed to seeking a diplomatic solution.

2. Russian Foreign Minister: Int'l community must prevent war in Iran - RIA Novosti

The United States and Iran are not doing enough to avert a military solution to Iran's nuclear problem, the Russian foreign minister said Tuesday.

3. U.S. Seeks to Maintain Basing Rights in Oman - MENL

The Bush administration has sought to maintain U.S. military basing rights in Oman. Diplomatic sources said the Defense Department has sought reassurances from the sultanate to continue access to military bases in Oman. Muscat has allowed the U.S. military to use four Omani bases. "Oman is very nervous of a U.S. war with Iran and does not want its territory used for this," a diplomat said.

On Feb. 25, U.S. Vice President Richard Cheney held talks with Omani leaders as part of his Gulf tour. The diplomatic sources as well as Omani officials said Cheney, in his first visit since 2002, discussed the Iranian threat to the Gulf.
