1. Maryland Court Says No To Same-Sex Marriage - CNSNews.com
In a 4-3 decision, the Maryland Court of Appeals Tuesday upheld a state law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman, putting an end to a challenge by same-sex couples who claimed they were denied equal protection under the law. Plaintiffs vowed to take the fight over gay marriage in Maryland to the Legislature next.
· Praise God for this divine decision! May marriage be upheld and defined in America as the sacred covenant union ordained by God between one man and one woman. God considered this so important He and His Son mention it in the Old and New Testaments for our understanding.
· "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." (Genesis 2: 24 and Matthew 19: 5 NKJV)
2. Republican Asks For Congressional Probe Of NY Times Ad Rates - CNSNews.com
The top Republican on the House oversight committee yesterday called for an investigation into possible elections violations by the New York Times for selling an advertisement to the liberal group MoveOn.org at a reduced rate. Rep. Thomas M. Davis III of Virginia said the discount may equate to an illegal in-kind political contribution by the Times to the group. MoveOn paid $65,000 for a full-page ad that criticized the character of Iraq war commander Gen. David H. Petraeus about $117,000 less than the Times' "open rate" for an ad of that type and size.
· Dear Lord, may our nation's media and entertainment industry be cleansed of its hatred towards You and Your followers, for this appears to be be the only true way for unbiased news and advertising to become a reality. Please protect your children from their attacks, for only You know all things.
·"Then Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.'" (Luke 23: 34 NKJV)
3. Ahmadinejad: The Return Of Mahdi Is Imminent - Worthy News
In his speech at the annual International Seminar on the Doctrine of Mahdism, held in Tehran August 25-26, 2007, Ahmadinejad stated that Western dominance has come to an end, and called on the nations of the world to rebel against "the oppressive imperialist powers" in preparation for the coming of the Hidden Imam.
· Editorial Board's comment: "THE RETURN OF THE LORD IS IMMINENT, TOO!!" May the Lord have mercy on Mr. Ahmadinejad's soul and on the souls of those he is deceiving about the return of the false Imam and the lies of Islam!
·"Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. (Revelation 1: 7 NKJV)
4. Arabs Urged To Join Forces Against Iran - Washington Times
The top U.S. military commander for the Middle East, Adm. William J. Fallon, is pressing Arab allies to form a more united front against Iran, seen by Washington as the region's long-term threat. At military compounds and royal reception halls across the Persian Gulf, Fallon is delivering personal appeals to Arab leaders to counter Iran's ambitions to expand its regional influence and move ahead with its nuclear program. He has carefully avoided publicly discussing any war contingency plans or making any direct threats against Iran, which sits in his sphere of operations. As head of U.S. Central Command, he oversees forces in Central Asia, the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
· Gracious Father, please keep Admiral William Fallon safe and grant him favor as he brings the message of peace to nations who respect You but do not know You as their Savior and King. May this overture bring many Arab nations to join forces against the evil one; and most importantly, to come to know You as their Messiah.
·"O Israel (and all nations), hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption." (Psalm 130: 7 NKJV paraphrased)
5. Russia, China Worried By Iran Attack Talk - ABC News
Russia and China expressed alarm on Tuesday over comments by France's foreign minister Bernard Kouchner, that Paris should prepare for the prospect of war with Iran, which the West accuses of secretly developing nuclear weapons. Kouchner maintains that his remarks were meant as a "message of peace."
· Heavenly Father, only You know what Mr. Kouchner meant in his remarks; but we recognize that what he spoke is a clear warning to the world of the Iranian threat. Please keep France, America, Israel and countries allied with Israel safe from Iran's aggressive policies and please keep him safe, too, because he might be targeted for elimination by zealous Islamic factions.
· "For I know that the Lord is great, and our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the Lord pleases He does, in Heaven and in earth." (Psalm 135: 5-6) NKJV
6. Rice Holding Talks With Israelis, Palestinians On US-Hosted Meeting - CNSNews.com

Prophecy Clock Ticks Forward With Israeli Bombing of Syria
New light has been shown on the mysterious September 6th bombing of Syria by Israel in that sources are now coming forward and claiming that the Syrian installation that prompted the Israeli strike was a suspected nuclear and weapons site. The piecing together of the post-mission political forensics indicates that North Korea may well have been sending its nuclear materials and technology to Syria. At the same, there are reports that the site was also a weapons cache built up over time of weapons sent to Hezbollah in Syria via Iran. North Korea called the Israeli bombing a "dangerous provocation." And Syria protested to the United Nations over the international community's silence on the bombings.
On June 8, 2005, The Daily Jot reported that there had been two train shipments that exploded-one in North Korea and another in Syria. Both were all but confirmed to be carrying missiles, missile technology and weapons technology. At the time, the North Korean government, desperate for cash and with a maniacal drive for power and influence, was suspected of supplying terrorists with weapons, even weapons of mass destruction. Several days after the article ran, the Daily Jot received an email from a source claiming to be a high ranking U.S. military officer who implied that the train blasts were the work of western s pecial forces units deployed to prevent the technology from reaching its destination.
The common thread between Syria and North Korea is Iran. Iran is financing the operations of weapons and weapons technology transfers. And Syria is a likely destination because most people would not suspect Syria as having a nuclear facility. However, Iran is operating from a strategy of eliminating Israel no matter the cost, so long as Iran survives. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Wednesday said that Israel "cannot continue its life." And Ahmadinejad echoed Bible prophecy when he said, "Israel is an invader and is cruel, and it hasn't got a united public. All other nations are against it."
In Zechariah 12:3 the Lord says, "And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." A milestone mark in prophecy is the Gog/Magog led attack on Israel where Persia, modern day Iran, and all of Northern Africa and the nations of the world gather against Israel. At that time, which may signal the beginning of the Great Tribulation, Russia, Iran and the forces against Israel will be miraculously defeated, according to Bible prophecy. The allignment of events is fast mapping with prophecy. And the hearts of men are growing cold as lawlessness abounds.

1. REPORT: IRANIAN PRESIDENT TO ATTEND UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will arrive in New York on September 24 in order to attend the United Nation's 62nd General Assembly session, the Iranian news agency Fars reported Friday. According to the report, Ahmadinejad will stay in the city for two days and will be accompanied by a high-level delegation. This will be the Iranian president's third visit to the United States since his election in 2005. After his stay in New York City, Ahmadinejad will head to Venezuela, according to the same report.
He tried the same thing last year and visas were denied for the 30+ special people he wanted to bring in with him that would be unnamed, not frisked, and given almost diplomatic immunity status as his "bodyguards." The US refused the visas for them, and he never showed. (Ynet News)
· If his "bodyguards" were denied visas last year, then they can be denied visas again this year. Intercede that this visit by Ahmadinejad will be canceled, by whatever means possible. We don't need his voice before this world body next week!
· "The righteous see it and rejoice, And all iniquity stops its mouth." (Psalm 107:42)
2. WARNING SAYS IRANIAN EMP COULD DO $771 BILLION DAMAGE
A new report says a SCUD-type missile launched from a small ship 200 miles from the coast of the United States could unleash a nuclear-generated electromagnetic pulse over Washington, D.C., that would leave behind $771 billion in damage. "More than five countries have the capability to inflict an EMP attack. Rogue regimes and terrorists know all about EMP and are working to acquire this weapon. We know the odds of our house burning down in any given year are very low, but that doesn't mean we will cancel our fire insurance,' said U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md. 'If America doesn't develop insurance against EMP, we will increase the odds of inviting this type of unimaginable attack in the future."
The report was produced by Sage Policy Group of Baltimore and commissioned by Instant Access Networks, which is leading a pilot project with Frostburg State University and Public Technology Institute to analyze dangers from EMP (Electro- Magnetic Pulse). Experts have predicted the EMP attack essentially would destroy any electronics within range of its impact, leaving technology comparable to that available in the 1800s. EMP attacks are generated when a nuclear weapon is detonated anywhere from 10 miles above the Earth's surface to hundreds of miles. The explosion, of even a small nuclear warhead, would produce a set of electromagnetic pulses that interact with the Earth's atmosphere and the Earth's magnetic field.
The study said the detonation would deliver a burst of energy to any metallic surface in direct line of the explosion, particularly those exceeding one meter in length. "These metal objects act like antennae and conduct a surge of energy along their span," the study said. "[Targets] include not only the obvious - computers and telephones - but also the electronic devices that are embedded in virtually every aspect of a productive economy," the study said, listing cars, power transmission lines, pipelines that deliver fuel, ATMs, heating and air conditioning systems and elevators." (WorldNetDaily)
· Father of Lights, in whom there is No shadow of turning, we thank You for not turning from this United States of America. We seek forgiveness of our evil ways LORD, and we ask that Your Hand will stay us from the hideous destructive forces of an EMP attack ever being launched on our nation. We ask that an absolute end for each and every plan of the enemy in perpetrating such an evil act will be granted us, In Jesus' Mighty Name.
· "He retaineth not His anger forever, because He delights in Mercy. He will turn again, He will have compassion on us." (Micah 7:18b & 19a)
3. RUSSIA CALLS ON UN TO KEEP SPACE WEAPON- FREE
Russia is to put forward a draft resolution to the United Nations banning the deployment of weapons in outer space, a Russian UN mission official statement said Thursday. The resolution entitled, Transparency and Confidence Building Measures in Outer Space Activities, was submitted to the UN five years ago and proposed a ban on the deployment of all types of weapons in space. Russia said that the treaty should set forth the following obligations, a ban on all objects capable of carrying weapons from orbiting Earth, no deployment and installation of such weapons in space, including other planets, a ban on the threat or use of force against space objects, and providing assistance for any activity banned under the agreement.
The United States is insisting that the 1967 Outer Space Treaty (OST), which currently forms the basis of international space law, ratified by Russia, the U.K., the U.S. and a further 27 countries, provides sufficient guarantees against placing weapons of mass destruction in space. But analysts say that the OST treaty does not ban the U.S or any other country from putting weapons into orbit, as long as the weapons are for peaceful purposes. Recently the U.S. said it favored the idea of possessing an advanced space defense potential to counter threats, following an incident in January when China tested space weapons, destroying one of its old meteorological satellites with a medium-range ballistic missile." (SpaceWar.com)
· Ask our God, our Provider, to provide Russia's acceptance of the prevailing Outer Space Treaty they ratified in 1967. Also that they will not continue drafting resolutions to change the intent of the original treaty, and that they will be bound to comply to it, In Jesus Name.
· "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and thanksgiving let your requests be make known unto God." (Philippians 4:6)
4. SYRIA MAY HAVE NUKE INSTALLATIONS; IAF TOOK THEM OUT
Israel believes that North Korea has been supplying Syria and Iran with nuclear materials, a Washington official told the New York Times as seen in a Ynet report. "The Israelis think North Korea is selling to Iran and Syria what little they have left," he said. The official added that recent Israeli reconnaissance flights over Syria revealed possible nuclear installations that Israeli officials estimate might have been supplied with material from North Korea. According to the Times, US officials confirmed Tuesday [September 11] that Israeli jets launched an air strike inside Syria. Sources said that Israel struck at least one target in northeastern Syria, but could not provide more details. The most likely target was, according to some US officials, weapon caches sent by Iran to Hizbullah through Syria. The strike was carried out early last Thursday, with Syria saying the planes broke the sound barrier and "dropped munitions," although the Israeli government has remained silent on the attack.
CNN news network said in a report that the incident involved an aerial operation that also included ground forces that were meant to mark targets or inspect the damage caused by the attack. It was also reported that the operation left "a great hole in the ground" in the Syrian desert. The report was based mainly on sources in the US government, and CNN said that Israel was satisfied with the operation's results. Hours before the CNN report was broadcast, Syria appealed to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the Security Council and warned Israel of "the consequences of this outrageous aggression." In the message sent to the UN, Syria said that "the continuing silence of the international community vis- à-vis Israel\'s illegal act will place the region as well as the peace and security of both countries in the face of uncontrollable tragedies."
The Syrian letter to the UN argued that Israel "is determined to choose aggression instead of peace and by doing so it reveals its true intentions that it tries to hide using fake claims of seeking peace in the region." North Korea commented on the incident Tuesday, calling it a "dangerous provocation," Chinese News Agency Xinhua reported. "This is a very dangerous provocation, little short of wantonly violating the sovereignty of Syria and seriously harassing the regional peace and security," a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman said. "The Democratic People's Republic of Korea strongly denounces the above said intrusion and extends full support and solidarity to the Syrian people in their just cause to defend the national security and the regional peace." (Ynetnews.com, September 12, 2007) [Reported by: Bridges for Peace (BFP)]
· Praise the Lord that Israel has taken some preemptive action. Ask God to further direct the steps of Israeli forces so that the enemy does not have the upper hand. The Lord grant that Israel act with boldness, foresight, and success toward her enemies all around. · "'And I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall; and they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and deliver you' says the LORD. 'I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you from the grip of the terrible'." (Isaiah 8:9-10)
5. ISRAEL AND PA REACH AGREEMENT AHEAD OF NOVEMBER PEACE MEETING
A senior Palestinian official has reported that Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed on a statement of principles ahead of a Middle East peace meeting scheduled to take place in November. The agreement reportedly calls for an Israeli military withdrawal from Judea and Samaria (the political West Bank), the dismantling of settlements there, a solution for Palestinian refugees agreed on by both sides, a divided Jerusalem as the capital of both states, and a Palestinian pledge to halt all terror activity directed against Israel.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat was recently quoted as saying that he was unaware of any such agreement, and there has also been no official announcement by the Foreign Ministry or the Prime Minister's Office. US State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack briefed reporters this week on recent diplomatic activities and their expectations for the upcoming meeting in November. "Look, there's going to be a lot of diplomacy between now and whenever we have this international meeting. We haven't issued invitations yet. I can't tell you when or where at this point. We're going to be working those things out in the coming weeks.
"In addition to what the Israelis and the Palestinians are doing, I would expect the secretary is going to be traveling out there probably next week. We'll get the dates and all the logistical details for that soon. There's just going to be meeting with both sides, the "Israelis and the Palestinians, to try to move the process forward, do a little review of the progress that they've made, see how we can help move the process forward. "I would expect at the UN General Assembly, the secretary will have a number of meetings dealing with this topic as well. So there's going to be a lot of diplomatic activity that you see unfolding over the coming months. And from that you will see emerge some results that will feed into this international meeting, and we'll see what the results from the international meeting are." (By Will King, BFP Israel Mosaic Radio, September 12, 2007)
· Whatever agreement is reached between Israel and the Palestinians, if it is not in accord with God's will, pray that it will not come to pass.
· "Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory." (Genesis 17:8; Exodus 23:31a; Joshua 1:4)
6. ISRAEL AGREES TO DESTROY JEWISH TOWNS, STARTING IN NOVEMBER
The Palestinian Authority's Maan news agency has published a copy, in Hebrew, of PM Olmert's agreement to expel tens of thousands of Jews and replace them with a Palestinian state. The report states that Israel has agreed to begin destroying Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria immediately following the US-sponsored international summit this coming November. The PA claims that the document's eight points represent the principles of agreement between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, in anticipation of the upcoming Middle East summit.
The agreement ends with this paragraph:
A document based on principles of the above type must be reached before the international summit in November, must be presented during the summit, and must be anchored in international decisions after it. Immediately following the summit, parallel with the negotiations for a detailed agreement, Israel will begin withdrawing its forces and evacuating settlements from areas in the West Bank. Completion of the various stages of evacuation will be done parallel to the completion of the negotiations. Clauses 3 and 4 indicate that Israel has agreed to give up the Temple Mount, Judaism's most sacred spot in the world, and allow an "administration" to determine when Jews would be allowed to visit or pray there.
The immediate response of the Yesha Council (the body representing the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria) was this:
"Only a government that acts so totally wantonly would be able to suggest such an agreement, precisely on the day that dozens of its soldiers are wounded from a rocket fired from area we gave over to the Palestinians. The Yesha Council calls upon all those to whom Israel's security and welfare are of top priority to object to this calamitous process of Olmert. The Knesset Members must thwart this program, which means the division of Jerusalem, as well as Kassam rocket launchers to the outskirts of Kfar Saba and Ben Gurion International Airport." (IsraelNN.com)
· This proposal is so outrageous that it defies even a modicum of common sense! All of Israel will be within range of any terrorist missile or other weapons. Why have Olmert and his confederates not learned that the Palestinians cannot be trusted to keep any agreement? Is this the work of the Lord to prepare Israel to accept the soon-coming Messiah? Without answers, we can only pray for the secure borders of Israel and the safety of its citizens. Pray for God's mercy and intervention in this situation. Cry out for Israel.
· " I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence." (Isaiah 62:6)
7. ISRAELI POLICE BUST NEO-NAZI CELL
Israeli police recently arrested eight teenagers on suspicion of belonging to a neo-Nazi cell in Petach Tikva. All but one of the teens are Russian immigrants and were led by 19-year-old Eli Buanitov, also known as "Nazi Eli." The gang is suspected of several attacks against gays, foreign workers, and religious Jews, as well as the desecration of synagogues in the Petach Tikva area.
After raiding the homes of the suspects, police found several neo-Nazi related movies and posters, photos showing the teens giving the "Heil Hitler" salute, knives, brass knuckles, and an improvised pistol. Two of the suspects also had Nazi symbols tattooed on their bodies, but one of the group members told reporters that, "the tattoos mean nothing." The Israeli public response and outcry to the neo-Nazis has been swift and very vocal. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said, "Israel, as a society, failed in educating the youths discovered to be neo-Nazis." Sergi Sushon, a Holocaust survivor living in Israel, said, "The government must severely punish the cell members and annihilate these barbarians."
Survivors' groups have been warning for some time of neo-Nazi activity in Israel, but until now the police had failed to act against what was thought to be a fringe minority. The suspects have been indicted on counts of racially-motivated aggravated assault, conspiring to commit a crime, distributing inciting materials, possessing racist materials and weapons and issuing threats. The judge ruled that they will be held until the end of their court proceedings.

8. ROMAN-PERIOD TUNNEL FOUND IN JERUSALEM
Archaeologists excavating in the City of David in Jerusalem have found a tunnel that dates to the time of the destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans in the year AD 70. According to site archaeologist Professor Ronny Reich of the University of Haifa, the tunnel was part of the city's drainage system and was used by the Jews of the time to hide from and evade the Romans.
Intact pottery vessels, coins, and other artifacts attest to the fact that people were living in the tunnel system for some time, a fact that was recorded in "The War of the Jews" by historian Josephus Flavius. The tunnel was also broken and penetrated at several points along its length where Roman soldiers broke through in order to capture the Jews living under the streets.
About 100 meters (328 feet) of the tunnel have been excavated so far in the southern portion of the City of David near to the Pool of Siloam. The drainage tunnel ran underneath one of the main roads from the period that ran from the pool up the hill and along the length of the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, a distance of about one kilometer (0.6 mile).

And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory." 11. EXERCISE VIGILANT SHIELD 'O8 SLATED FOR OCTOBER
1. SENATE TO CONSIDER "DREAM ACT" (AMNESTY MEASURE) NEXT WEEK!
In the middle of actions on Defense next week, the open-borders Senators are going to attempt to attach three proposals that would give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and dramatically increase the importation of additional foreign labor for American jobs. Many of the Senators who helped us kill the Comprehensive Amnesty in June are indicating they are in favor of these preferences for illegal foreign workers and new foreign workers over American workers. The three proposals are:
a. Senate Amendment 2237 to the Department of Defense Authorization bill (H.R. 1585), sponsored by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), is the DREAM Act, which would grant amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16.
b. A second piece of legislation, also designed to be attached to the Defense Authorization Bill, is called "the SKIL Act." If passed, this Act would increase the annual cap for "temporary" nonimmigrant visas from 65,000 to 115,000; and establishes more exemptions from the cap, thus rendering the cap virtually meaningless. The SKIL Act thus would increase H -1B visas and permanent greencards for foreign workers to take jobs from skilled American workers and students.
c. The third proposal will attempt to increase H-2B visas for seasonal foreign workers to take jobs from America's most vulnerable workers. This one, too, is designed to be attached to the Defense Authorization bill, which will shortly be passed in the Senate.
(Source: Numbers USA)
· Pray that the American people become aware QUICKLY of these stealth maneuvers to pass the Comprehensive Immigration Reform package in piecemeal steps. It seems that the immigration wolf is still at the door, so the watchmen need to be on the alert. Sound the alarm; call your friends; and call your senators, asking each one to vote NO on each proposal outlined above.
· "'This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!'" (Job 38:10) "Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power . . . "(Psalm 110:3 NASB)
2. ENDA AND HATE CRIMES: TWO BILLS TO KILL!
[Source for both items and prayers: Family Research Council Prayer Targets]
a. Hate Crimes - Pastors across America are beginning seriously to oppose proposed Federal Hate Crimes legislation - which will be revisited, either as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill or a stand alone bill - during the next few weeks. May the Lord intervene and may His people arise and say "NO!" to this egregious affront to God, the Church and the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees every American "equal justice under the law." May He forgive the Church for waiting so long to be "salt and light" in this important matter.
· May the numbers of pastors opposing this bill continue to swell and may it be defeated! May President Bush, if necessary, veto as promised. May this defeat be a turning point in the war being waged by homosexual activists in Congress and across the nation.
b. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is every bit as pernicious and far reaching as the more-publicized Hate Crimes bill. Hearings began on ENDA in a House subcommittee last week. Under ENDA large employers and small businesses - organizations of every kind, schools, non-profit groups, hospitals, clinics, counseling centers, even conservative think tanks, would be required to hire homosexuals, bisexuals and "transgendered" persons. An employer's faith, moral view, the sensitivity of his/her work or service or the makeup of his/her clientele is of no consequence. Private schools, daycare centers, scouting organizations and quasi-religious organizations will be not be exempt. Exceptions are made only for the military and explicitly religious organizations (but for how long?). This will mainstream homosexuality and other sexual perversions and provide "gay" activists a legal tool to punish employers who do not approve of these lifestyles, condemned in Scripture. Employers' liberty to use their own good judgment to hire will be a thing of the past. Much of American business, industry and our mammoth federal and state governments have already succumbed to the homosexual agenda. If ENDA is passed, those who have not yet will be required to do so by the force of law, the enforcement of federal authorities, and lawsuits by homosexual activists (we must both pray and make our voices heard by our elected officials).
· Pray that the American people, especially Bible believing pastors, will be stirred to stand against ENDA, just as they are beginning to do with the Hate Crimes Bill. May the Church understand the far- reaching consequences of failure to act now. May God graciously intervene to stop this bill.
· "The righteous see it and rejoice, And all iniquity stops its mouth." (Psalm 107:42)
3. FOUR JUDICIAL NOMINATIONS SENT TO THE SENATE; SOUTHWICK VOTE PENDING
The Office of the Press Secretary at the White House has announced the following four nominees to serve as judges in the Courts named: 1) Stanley Thomas Anderson, of Tennessee, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee; 2) E. Duncan Getchell, Jr., of Virginia, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit; 3) Steve A. Matthews, of South Carolina, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit; and 4) John A. Mendez, of California, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of California.
In addition, the Family Research Council has announced that "Leslie Southwick - The Mississippi judge President Bush nominated to the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals may soon receive an up or down vote in the U.S. Senate. Judge Southwick stands in stark contrast to a liberal judge in Iowa who last week declared Iowa's homosexual marriage ban unconstitutional. Such is why we must regularly undergird the judicial confirmation process with prayer. The liberal-run Senate is able to obstruct the confirmation process. Prayer must frequently be made if judges like Southwick are to be confirmed. Now it is up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to schedule a vote by the full Senate."
· May Judge Southwick receive a speedy vote and be confirmed! May the President Bush continue to appoint high-quality judges like Southwick who will receive fair and timely review in the Senate and swift up or down vote as required by the Constitution.
· "Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens." (Exodus 18:21)
BULLETIN: Inside sources are reporting today that President Bush is about to announce his new choice for Attorney General, replacing Alberto Gonzalez. Pray that the president would choose a man of faith and humility -- and one who would serve in this office primarily out of a sense of duty to our country. The new Attorney General will have to help the Justice Department has to navigate its way through several difficult and sensitive policy matters, including the surveillance of terrorists and the detention of enemy combatants for the duration of this Administration; pray that our president be granted WISDOM in making this critical choice, and that he HEARS GOD in this matter. · "Whoever is wise will observe these things, And they will understand the lovingkindness of the LORD." (Psalm 107:43)
4. BUSH TO START PULLOUT OF TROOPS; DEMOCRATS OBJECT
a. In his address to the nation on Thursday night, President Bush said the U.S. military"s success in Iraq has made it possible to begin withdrawing some troops but noted that future withdrawals will be based on continued success and renewed his call on Iraqi leaders to take control of their country. The president said 5,700 U.S. troops would return home by Christmas. He also said that five combat brigades, out of the 20 in Iraq, would be withdrawn by next summer, without saying exactly how many troops that would be. (Washington Times)
· Lord we seek You to secure Iraq. We pray for the Iraqi forces to be strengthened to control their country. We thank You for the wisdom in gradually withdrawing troops. Bless our military with success and protection.
· "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength." (Is. 40:29)
b. Senate Democrats Reject Troop Reduction Plan for Iraq - Fox News
Setting the stage for yet another showdown with the Bush administration over Iraq policy, top Senate Democratic leaders vowed to fight plans to withdraw roughly 30,000 troops from Iraq, saying those plans do not go far enough. "It appears the president's dug in, unwilling to recognize that his strategy is placing all the burden on our military, and it's simply not working," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters Wednesday afternoon.
"His plan is neither to draw down, nor a change in mission that we need. His plan is simply more of the same: to keep at least 130,000 troops - American troops - in the midst of an intractable civil war. This is unacceptable to me, unacceptable to the American people," Reid said.
· Father we take authority over the spirits of division and deception which are paralyzing our government from decisive actions in all matters of both domestic and foreign policy. We bind the angel of light from operating within our Congress, and plead the Blood of Jesus over all branches of our government. We loose God's truth, clarity of thought, and righteousness over our elected officials.
· "Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19)
Prayer offered by Pray4theUSA.com: "Pray that our nation's leaders would make wise decisions regarding the war in Iraq. Pray that political candidates and leaders would resist the urge to divide our nation by using the war as a wedge issue. Pray that they would instead work together to develop the wisest course of action in Iraq." Amen!
5. MOVEON.ORG CALLS GEN. PETRAEUS "GENERAL BETRAYUS"; CONGRESS REACTS
Gen. David Petraeus addressed Congress with his long-anticipated progress report about our mission in Iraq. The news that the surge is working, the Iraqis are beginning to take back their country and our troops are defeating al-Qaeda is encouraging to patriotic Americans. But pro-defeat groups like MoveOn.org and their allies in Congress have decided that any good news regarding Iraq is bad news for them politically. MoveOn.org viciously attacked the character and integrity of Gen. Petraeus with a full-page ad in the New York Times calling him "General Betray Us!"
It is legitimate to ask tough questions of Gen. Petraeus on his testimony but not to question his patriotism. The vicious attack on him, his commitment to the American people and the integrity with which he leads the Multi-National Force in Iraq will go down in history as a disgrace. It will be seen not only as a reprehensible criticism of Gen. Petraeus but, by extension, those who serve under him - all members of the United States Armed Forces.
In response to the unwarranted assault on Gen. Petraues' character, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) introduced resolutions that strongly condemn these personal attacks on Gen. Petraeus' honor and integrity. If MoveOn.org does not speak for you, please call your Representative and Senators at 202-224- 3121 and urge them to go on record condemning the personal attacks on Gen. Petraeus' integrity and the forces he leads and to vote in favor of the Cornyn resolution in the Senate and the Boehner resolution in the House. (Concerned Women for America)
· Praise the Lord for leadership that calls disgrceful behavior to account. Evidently, MoveOn.org considers no behavior too outrageous unless it is caught - like a rebellious child about to flush the kitten down the toilet! This is clever irresponsibility by adults who should have developed by this time a sense of decency and respect. Pray for those who devised this ad that they will receive salvation in Jesus Christ. Support this resolution in both the Senate and the House.
· "When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge." (Proverbs 21:11)
6. SHEIK WHO BACKED U.S. IN IRAQ ASSASSINATED
A high-profile Sunni Arab sheik who collaborated with the American military in the fight against jihadist militants in western Iraq was killed in a bomb attack on Thursday near his desert compound. The attack appeared to be a precisely planned assassination meant to undermine one of the Bush administration's trumpeted achievements in the war.The attack appeared to be a precisely planned assassination meant to undermine one of the Bush administration's trumpeted achievements in the war. Two guards were also killed in the attack on the sheik, Abdul Sattar Buzaigh al- Rishawi, who just last week shook hands with President Bush during the president's surprise visit to Anbar to extol the Sunni cooperation that has made the province, once Iraq's most dangerous, relatively safe.
In his speech, Bush acknowledged the killing. "Earlier today, one of the brave tribal sheiks who helped lead the revolt against Al Qaeda was murdered," he said. "In response, a fellow Sunni leader declared: 'We are determined to strike back and continue our work.' And as they do, they can count on the continued support of the United States." (Herald Tribune, 9/13/07)
· Father, we ask that You raise up more Sunnis to stand with the U.S., that this incident will have the opposite effect than what was planned by the enemy.
· "And we know that all things work together for good . . ." (Romans 8:28)
7. GEN. PETRAEUS, AMBASSADOR CROCKER SUPPORT ASSYRIAN CHRISTIANS IN IRAQ
In between grueling testimony before the House of Representatives and Senate that ran nearly 20 hours, General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker both publicly and privately expressed their support for the Assyrian Christians of Iraq and confirmed their reputations as friends of the Assyrian Christians.
The Assyrian Christians, the original people of Iraq and the people of Biblical Nineveh the setting of Jonah and the whale, became the first Christian Nation following the death of Christ. As the only people who speak Aramaic and with a nearly 10% population in Iraq, they are crucial to the success of the current efforts in Iraq.
General David Petraeus, on the other hand served initially in Mosul, in historic Assyria and has many Assyrian Christian friends. Petraeus is famed for conducting the longest heliborne assault in history to reach Nineveh. His nearly one year in Mosul, rebuilding and setting up the administration in the heart of the Assyrian homeland and the program of public works and governmental reform made the region of the most stable in all of Iraq. (Intercessors for America)
· With estimates of up to 800,000 Assyrian Christians as refugees, the Iraqi Prime Minister's office has proposed the setting up of an Assyrian Security Area to enable those who have left the country to return, support for resettlement and for support to those currently living as displaced persons outside Iraq. Pray that this movement towards granting the Assyrian Christians -- the original people of Iraq -- their own land would come to fruition. Pray!
· "The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)
8. VALUES VOTERS DEBATE TO TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY
The Values Voter Presidential Debate that will take place this Monday, September 17, at 7pm (EST). The debate will take place in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Forty of our nation's top Christian and conservative leaders will ask the presidential candidates the questions that will be of great concern to us as Christian voters. Please cover every aspect of this event in prayer. Pray that the Lord would use it to shine a light on where the candidates really stand. Pray as well that one strong Values Voter candidate would emerge that would be worthy of support --a David who would eclipse all his brothers.
The debate will cover such issues as abortion, immigration, marriage and other issues Values Voters consider important. If you want to see where they stand on the traditional, pro-family issues, don't miss this debate.
The debate will be shown live on Sky Angel satellite and via the Internet by the American Family Association. You can also listen to the debate on VCY America and AFA radio networks. Check the respective websites for details. It's not too soon to be praying for Decision '08. (Bill Lewis; Sons of Issachar)
· Cover this debate with intercessory prayer throughout. Beforehand, pray about the questions asked and the answers that they should elicit. An interesting, large field of Christian candidates is seeking the nomination for president, and that field needs to be winnowed. Ask the Lord to winnow. Pray for a supportive, not hostile, audience to be present in Broward.
· "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delighteth in his way." (Psalm 37:23)
9. HOMOSEXUAL PROPAGANDA INFILTRATES SCHOOLS
Another example of how pro-homosexual propaganda is appearing in schools--and in lower and lower grades--was reported today in The New York Times. Evesham Township, New Jersey, is embroiled in controversy over a film called "That's a Family!" which is shown to third-graders. Produced in 2000 with an obvious agenda to indoctrinate kids, the movie celebrates diverse "families." It includes a child who boasts that having "two dads" is "really cool." Interestingly enough, the film is promoting homes headed by same-sex couples--a union that, with the exception of Massachusetts, doesn't even exist as marriage in American law. After it was shown last December and some parents objected, a special screening was arranged--and parents remained split down the middle over whether it was appropriate. The school board decided to remove the video from its curriculum on August 30.
The implications of this controversy go beyond just one school district--even to the Employment Non- Discrimination Act (ENDA) now being considered by Congress. The Times reports that the decision to shelve the film has provoked "the threat of a lawsuit by gay rights activists who said the district's refusal to show the video was a violation of state antidiscrimination laws." In other words, ending "discrimination" means that homosexual propaganda in grade school is mandatory. One supporter of the film said that opponents "say, 'We can teach our own kids.' Sure you can. But who's going to teach you?" There are none so intolerant as those who want to force their own vision of "tolerance" on others. As this article points out, "That's a Family!" has wormed its way into far more cities than Evesham. To ensure that your town isn't one of them, contact your child's school to see if the film is scheduled to make an appearance--before it's too late! (Family Research Council)
· These are the days in which we cannot give a casual glance at the news, for the enemy is ever busy to deceive us and our children. Will you be one of the citizens who stands against such propaganda of the homosexuals and their attempts to indoctrinate America's children that their behavior is acceptable? God calls such behavior an "abomination." Pray that all parents will oppose the showing of this film in schools and that the film will disappear down the sewer where it rightfully belongs.
· "The labor of the righteous tendeth to life; the fruit of the wicked to sin." (Proverbs 10:16)
10. CHRISTIAN LAW FIRM REPRESENTS CITIZENS OPPOSED TO ISLAMIC SCHOOL
A Christian public-interest law firm has announced it will represent a group of citizens who are opposed to today's scheduled opening of a school in Brooklyn, New York, that will completely immerse its students in the Islamic culture. The Thomas More Law Center believes the Khalil Gibran International Academy is nothing more than a thinly disguised incubator for Islamist radicalization. That is why the Ann Arbor, Michigan-based firm is weighing in on the controversy. Spokesman Brian Rooney says the Brooklyn school is a Trojan Horse that New York City is building with taxpayer money.
"We're concerned at Kahlil Gibran about the notion of Arabic-speaking Islamic indoctrination of a community that already has trouble assimilating into our culture -- and we are afraid of the aspect of home-grown terrorism," Rooney states bluntly. The attorney points out that this is not the first time the Law Center has intervened in a case where a public school is indoctrinating children about Islam. "The Byron School District in California made students take Islamic names, and play games like jihad, and say Islamic prayers over a three-week indoctrination period," he notes.
The Thomas More Law Center spokesman argues that the school should be focusing on preparing students for being citizens of the United States, but that in place of American civics will be teaching "Islamics, and Arabic poets." Rooney says his legal firm not only will monitor the Brooklyn school to make sure it complies with the law, but is prepared to file a federal lawsuit if it does not. (OneNewsNow.com)
· Praise the Lord for citizens' alertness to the dangers of teaching Islam in the public school. Keep in mind that Saudi Arabia does not even allow Bibles in that country. Pray against this spirit of religious tolerance that is spreading across our nation like an insidious cancer. Freedom of worship is not the same as tolerance. Pray for the success of this lawsuit.
· "Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth." (Proverbs 17:24)
11. EXERCISE VIGILANT SHIELD 'O8 SLATED FOR OCTOBER
PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command along with U.S. Pacific Command, the Department of Homeland Security as well as local, state and other federal responders will exercise their response abilities against a variety of potential threats during Exercise Vigilant Shield '08, a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff-designated, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM)-sponsored, and U.S. Joint Forces Command-supported Department of Defense exercise for homeland defense and defense support of civil authorities missions.
VS-08 will be conducted concurrent with Top Officials 4 (TOPOFF 4), the nation's premier exercise of terrorism preparedness sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, and several other linked exercises as part of the National Level Exercise 1-08. These linked exercises will take place October 15-20 and are being conducted throughout the United States and in conjunction with several partner nations including Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, as well as the Territory of Guam. (Northcom)
· Offer prayers during this very strategic military exercise, asking our Lord to bless the efforts of everyone who will be involved. It is absolutley critical that all of our forces "on the ground" be as prepared as possible in the event of a catastrophic emergency of any kind; but in the end, we must rely on our hidden forces "in the air" to give us maximum protection.
· " . . . if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)
This Week, Worship Our Lord As . . .
GOD OF PEACE (Ehlohay Ha-Shalom)
"The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." (Romans 16:20)
You are the God of Peace, yet I thank You because You go to battle for me. How glad I am that I need not trust in my hands, my ability or my strength for defense. I simply put my life into Your hands and have all the help I need. How I praise You!

5. US to attack Iran in 8-10 months - Jerusalem Post
Germany's unwillingness to impose further sanctions on Iran has pushed the United States closer towards a decision on a military strike, FOX News reported on Wednesday. According to the report, Germany's decision has spurred senior US army officials to try and convince US Foreign Secretary Condoleezza Rice to abandon once and for all the diplomatic route of preventing a nuclear Iran. The report further stated that the date of preference for an attack against Iran is in eight to 10 months - after the US presidential candidates for both the Democrats and the Republicans have been chosen, but before the major presidential campaign kicks off.
CA Tries Total Recall of Traditional Marriage
Speaking of marriage, California liberals are doing their best to artificially boost the number of America's "married" households by legalizing same- sex unions. For the second time in two years, the state legislature has sent a bill to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) desk that would overturn Proposition 22 (which defines the institution as the union of a man and woman) and allow "gay marriage." Yet again, Gov. Schwarzenegger has promised to veto the bill, holding the line on traditional marriage at a crucial time in our country.
As it stands, Schwarzenegger may have more than morality on his side, since many legal experts are insisting that the bill is "unconstitutional" in the first place. The state's constitution mandates that an initiative passed by the people--such as Proposition 22--can only be repealed by the people. It's time for the legislature to stop acting outside the will of the electorate and pass something that a majority of the state supports--a constitutional amendment protecting man-woman marriage.

Not MovingOn
I reported to you Monday that the radical antiwar group MoveOn.org took out a full-page ad viciously attacking General David Petraeus by calling him "General Betray Us." Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut was quick to condemn the ad as "vile," and Republican leaders in the House and Senate offered resolutions expressing their support for General Petraeus and condemning the ad.
But yesterday, when Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) asked for a vote on his resolution, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) declared it was non-germane and effectively tabled the resolution. Later in the day, Senators Cornyn and Bunning (R-KY) requested a vote on the resolution, but Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) objected twice.
Here is an opportunity for members of the United States Senate to go on the record in support of our men and women in uniform, and yet the vote is being blocked. In the wake of this disgusting ad and on the heels of the September 11th anniversary, one would think members of both parties would be jumping at the chance to express some unity and demonstrate their support for our troops and their commanding officers. Unbelievably, Senate liberals are objecting to such a vote!
It's hard to believe that the anti-war radicals at MoveOn.org have that much influence in the Democrat Party, but it's hard to come to any other conclusion.
What do you think? If you would like to share your thoughts about MoveOn.org's attack ad against General Petraeus with your members of Congress, visit our website at http://www.cwfpac.com to send a message to your representative and senators.

Regarding 9/11
A spirit of fear seems to be gripping our nation. The opposite of fear is trust, and trust is the basis of love. God is love. Are you feeling fearful? It is heavy in the atmosphere, and it allows evil to operate strongly. Understand that you can and must counteract it! Every time you feel fear, remind yourself that God so loved you that He sent His only Son. . . . Replace the fear with His love. Sometimes we busy ourselves with so many things that we think we can prevent something by not thinking about it, not facing it. But we must be vigilant in our praise, our belief, and our strength in order to hold up our weaker brothers. Pray in a good way! Pray strongly! Be vigilant not just in watching our surroundings, but in watching skyward to the heavens!

Still-grieving relatives of World Trade Center victims assembled at a lower Manhattan park Tuesday to mark the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, with gray skies and rain providing a grim backdrop to the first ceremony not held at Ground Zero.

One day after the liberal activist group MoveOn ran a full-page ad in the New York Times entitled "General Petraeus or General Betray Us?" a conservative non-profit group ran another full-page ad in the same paper declaring, "Victory is America's only choice" in the war on terror.
· The ad that ran in the New York Times on Monday, calling General Petraeus "General Betrayus," has been a cause of great consternation, both on the Hill and with the American people. As intercessors, our own portion is to ask our Lord to FORGIVE George Soros and the members of Moveon.org for their wickedness, for "they know not what they do." As we ask HIM to forgive these people (for often, we cannot honestly find it in our hearts to forgive them), may the Spirit of Grace begin to visit George Soros and his camp, melting their hearts and turning them towards Him for salvation. Amen!

Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the Senate minority leader. "A lot of Democrats have already made up their minds and are not interested in the facts," McConnell said in a conference call on Monday.
· Pray for wisdom for Senator McConnell and others aligned with him, as they confront the Democrats on this issue. May ALL the debate surrounding the war in Iraq be based on FACTS -- not hearsay.
· "He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit." (Proverbs 12:17)

· For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless person perish, and leave their wealth to others. (Psalms 49:10)

Osama bin Laden urged sympathizers to join the "caravan" of martyrs as he praised one of the September 11 suicide hijackers in a new video that emerged yesterday to mark the sixth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
· Pray that Bin Laden's exhortation would fall on deaf ears, and agree with the Word of God that the plans of the wicked shall be foiled and of no effect!
· " . . . they shall fight against you, but they shall not [finally] prevail against you, for I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you." (Jer. 1:19 AMP)
7. U.S. Officials Begin Crafting Iran Bombing Plan - Fox News
A recent decision by German officials to withhold support for any new sanctions against Iran has pushed a broad spectrum of officials in Washington to develop potential scenarios for a military attack on the Islamic regime, FOX News confirmed Tuesday.
· Lord, we pray that You will be in charge of these plans and that nothing will go through without Your approval. Man may have his plans, but, only God can carry out the plans.
· A man's heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

Congress Blocks NAU Mexican Truck Plan
Congress Blocks North American Union Mexican Truck Experiment--But For The Wrong Reasons
The U.S. Congress has done the right thing for the wrong reasons as it passed on to President George W. Bush veto proof legislation to end the North American Union experiment allowing Mexican trucks free access to United States highways. The Bush Administration's plans for a North American Union that have been steaming ahead met a strong roadblock when the Teamsters Union put its foot down and all its leftist supporters in Congress, mainly the Democratic Party, had to choose between their heart's desire of a Republican-inspired North American Union or receiving huge contributions for the upcoming reelection campaign. No surprise here-- They chose the money over their hearts.
The Teamsters Union public argument centered around public safety. They said that Mexican trucks do not meet the same safety requirements as do American trucks. Mexican truck drivers are not as well qualified as American truck drivers. That's the arguments the public has heard. And these are reasonable and true objections. The real reason, however, behind the Teamsters' opposition to the Mexican trucks is money. Currently, Mexican trucks have to enter a commercial zone along the border and their haul must be transferred to American trucks. Those who are paid to transfer the cargo belong to the Teamsters Union. Many American truckers are Teamsters.
If the Teamsters had a way to make money on the Mexican trucks as they do now, the roadblock would be removed. So it is only a matter of time before the Teamsters figure out how to organize, qualify and bring the Mexican trucks across the border while keeping their union members busy and cash flowing into the Teamster tills. The right reason for defeating the Mexican truck experiment is that it is the official opening of America's borders to the North American Union; the beginning of a threat to the sovereignty of the United States of America. The Republican Senators along the border states, except for Arizona's John McCain, voted to allow the Mexican trucks. They don't receive a lot of money from the Teamsters.
Elected politicians who want to meld the United States into a three-country union are violating their oath to uphold the Constitution. In Biblical times, borders were very important. Sovereignty was an issue worth dying for. In a judgment against Babylon--a nation that looked a lot like modern Am erica--Jeremiah prophesied God's words when he said "Surely, I will fill you with men as with locusts and they shall lift up a battle cry against you (Jeremiah 51:14)." We are a land placed in covenant with God. When we fall far away from God, denying Him and his statutes, His blessings and protections may cease for the nation. Pray and act that you may stand in the gap that He might not destroy the land.

Renewing Our Resolve
Amid flags at half-mast and a capital city shrouded in clouds, the sixth anniversary of September 11, 2001 has arrived quietly in a nation still divided over the war it provoked. From Ground Zero to the broken ring of the Pentagon, we can't help but remember how many of the fallen were heroes that day. They were men and women on planes, in skyscrapers, charging up stairwells, and digging through rubble. As diverse as they were, the victims had one thing in common--they were all patriots. Today, the spirit of 9-11--that of selfless determination--is still very much alive in our brave troops overseas. Despite months of bickering and distractions at home, our soldiers have carried out their mission valiantly, many of them making the ultimate sacrifice while their fellow citizens, speaking from the safety and comfort they provide, feel free to question what these soldiers are giving their lives for.
While the news is trained on the war, few seem to remember why we're fighting it--not for Iraq but for the liberty Americans so quickly take for granted. Many in this country have forgotten that the best way to honor those who died on September 11--and since--is by upholding the commitment to do everything we can to keep it from happening again. Abandoning the war would be to abandon America's identity. As Anne Applebaum writes today, "Perhaps it's time to take the main message [of Bin Laden] seriously: Al-Queda's long-term goal is to convert Americans and other Westerners to its extreme version of Islam." This is the ultimate struggle between good and evil, the long- standing battle for our ideals of faith, family, and freedom. In the end, this war is not only a military conflict, but a spiritual one. And the entire Western world hangs in the balance. Though, as Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "I still have faith in America. I still have faith that we will hew out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope." Let's pray, six years later, that as the stone walls of the Pentagon have been rebuilt and construction is under way at the site of the World Trade Center, so too are we rebuilding our resolve that those who have died in our nation's service will be honored not just in memorial remembrances but in victory over tyranny.

Shana Tova: Happy New Year!
"And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, In the seventh month in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets (SHOFAR), a holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord." ( Leviticus 23:23-25)
According to the biblical calendar, the Feast of Trumpets this year will start on sunset, September 12. This will be the first day of the seventh Hebrew month, and, according to rabbinical tradition, it is also considered to be the beginning of the new Hebraic civil year, the year 5768, counting from the creation of the world.
The coming weeks will usher in the three Fall Feasts of the Lord. Trumpets, the Day of Atonement and Tabernacles are stacked closely together over a span of 21 intense days, reflecting prophetically the drama unfolding at the closing of this age. This coming year will no doubt bring more turmoil, testing and purging, and this season of feasts presents an invitation for every child of God to reflect, take stock, and gird up our loins for the journey ahead.

Rosh Hashannah is considered the birthday of the world. The Hebrew word Rosh means 'head' or Beginning, Ha means 'the' and Shannah means "year." Rosh Ha Shannah is the beginning of the 10 High Holy Days or Days of Awe, the Days of Repentance, which end with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
The more common Biblical name is Feast of Trumpets.
