The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Monday, February 2, 2015

". . . the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters
cover the sea."
(Isaiah 11:9)

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse . . ." (Rev. 19:11)
The Daily Brief

1. Ted Cruz Calls For Investigation Into Taxpayer-Funded State Department Group Trying To Oust Netanyahu

Dear Mr. Secretary:

We write to express strong concerns over the recent media reports that a U.S. taxpayer funded 501©(3) non-profit organization called One Voice is actively working with a campaign operation called V15 or 'Victory 2015' in an effort to influence the outcome of the elections in Israel on March 17, 2015.

On January 26, 2015, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on the close coordination between these two entities. The reporter described his visit to the campaign operation in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the significant role Jeremy Bird, President Obama's former deputy national field director (2008) and national field director (2012), is playing with V15.

- Heavenly Father, we stand in the gap before Your throne and ask for mercy for our nation since this illegal act is being funded using our own tax money. Help us, Father, as we repent before You and seek Your help in crushing down this strategy to interfere with the upcoming elections in Israel, Your special land. We thank You in advance for hearing us, praying this in the Name of Jesus and under His Shed Blood, Amen and Amen.

- "No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel. The Lord their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them." (Numbers 23:21)

2. Obama Spokesman Waffles On Whether Or Not The Taliban Is a Terrorist Organization

Karl asked if the Jordanians trading a prisoner for a hostage held by ISIS was any different than president Obama trading five high-ranking terrorists for Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl. After struggling to paint the Bergdahl swap as a means of "leaving no man behind," Schultz responded, "I would also point out that the Taliban is an armed insurgency and [the Islamic State] is a terrorist group. So we don't make concessions to terrorist groups."

Karl followed up by asking, "You don't think the Taliban is a terrorist group?"

Like a deer stuck in the headlights, Schultz tried to qualify, "I don't think the Taliban, uh. . . the Taliban is an armed insurgency. This was the winding down of the war in Afghanistan and that's why this arrangement was dealt."

- Heavenly Father, we fall before You and repent that we have leadership which does not appear to be willing to label terrorist groups for what they are, dangerous and violent. Have mercy upon us, Father, and awaken those who need to acknowledge the danger that the Taliban presents to the world and to labeling them truthfully, so that appropriate responses may be made to the Taliban's actions. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

-"The wicked prowl on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men." (Psalm 12:8 NKJV)

3. Japanese prime minister 'infuriated,' by journalist's beheading, vows to hold ISIS responsible- Fox News

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Sunday he is "infuriated" by the purported beheading of journalist Kenji Goto by the Islamic State group and vowed to hold the terror group responsible.

"I feel indignation over this immoral and heinous act of terrorism," Abe told reporters after convening an emergency Cabinet meeting.

"When I think of the grief of his family, I am left speechless," he said. "We are filled with deep regret."

Japan ordered heightened security precautions Sunday and said it would persist with its non-military support for fighting terrorism.

Threats from the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, prompted an order for tighter security at airports and at Japanese facilities overseas, such as embassies and schools, government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said.

He said it would be "inappropriate" to comment on the status of the Jordanian pilot.

- Heavenly Father, it appears that various nations are being awakened to how dangerous the terrorist group of ISIS truly is. This has been done by harsh, shocking actions that register on the nations the brutality of ISIS. Father, we ask that You abide in their midst and guide them to respond in a manner that will impact and limit further actions being done by this terrorist group. We thank You in advance for Your response, praying in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

4. GOP House to vote next week to repeal ObamaCare, after attacking law piece by piece-Fox News

The Republican-led House is set to begin February with a vote to repeal ObamaCare, making clear that trying to dismantle the health-care law remains a top priority.

The scheduled vote next week was announced in a new memo from House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy to fellow GOP House members in which he said the effort to repeal the legislation will give them an opportunity to tell voters that health care decisions "should be made by patients and their doctors, not by Washington."

The California lawmaker also stated that members should remind Americans that the country needs solutions that reduce costs and give them access to "21st Century cures and treatments" -- an often repeated message at congressional Republicans' policy retreat earlier this month.

"First, we will consider (a bill) to protect individuals from government-imposed cost increases and reduced access to care and coverage by repealing ObamaCare," McCarthy said in the memo obtain Thursday by Fox News.

GOP House and Senate leaders emerged from the retreat saying they intend to fix problems associated with ObamaCare but with no clear plan on whether they would focus on a full repeal or just change parts.

- Abba Father, we ask that You rise up and extend Your righteous right hand over this movement by Congress as they work on repealing this destructive, and dangerous health care law, which already has harmed so many people. Guide them, Father, as to how to overcome any threatened vetoes, and how to replace this law with a law that is workable, and will legitimately provide health care for all involved. We ask this in Jesus' Name and under His Shed Blood, Amen and Amen.

- "Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand! Do not forget the humble. Why do the wicked renounce God? He has said in his heart, 'You will not require an account.' But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand. The helpless commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until You find none." (Psalm 10:12-15 NKJV)

5. Obama has agreed to 80 percent of Iran's demands in nuclear talks, Israeli officials tell Ch.10

Israeli officials told Channel 10 on Friday that they are convinced the Obama administration has already agreed to most of Iran's demands in the P5+1 negotiations over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

According to unnamed officials, Washington "has given the Iranians 80 percent of what they want" out of the negotiations, Channel 10 is reporting.

Jerusalem officials appear alarmed at the prospect that the United States will soon strike a deal with the Iranian regime that will leave it with a "breakout point" of months before it can gallop toward the bomb.

An Obama administration official dismissed the claims in the Channel 10 report as "complete nonsense."

- Abba Father, if one is observant it should be clear that Iran does not care about the safety or rights of other nations or people groups, but is determined to create extremely deadly and destructive nuclear weapons and to use these weapons quickly against Your special land and people, plus Your remnant people. Have mercy, Father, and rise up to stop these plans! We raise up the Cross of Christ and drive it as a stake through the heart of these plans, praying this in Jesus' Name and under His Shed Blood, Amen and Amen.

-"Redeem Israel, O God, out of all their troubles!" (Psalm 25:22 NKJV)

6. Obama budget sets up battle with GOP-controlled Congress- AP

After a year of relative peace in Washington's budget battles, President Barack Obama will lay out a $4 trillion budget on Monday that needles Republicans with proposals for higher taxes on the wealthy and businesses to pay for education, public works projects and child care.

The plan, expected to be dismissed by GOP lawmakers now running Capitol Hill, rolls out as the deficit is dropping and Obama's poll numbers inch higher. Though Republicans will march ahead on their own, they ultimately must come to terms with Obama, whose signature is needed on anything that is going to become law.

Big challenges loom: the need to increase the government's borrowing limit; a deadline for sustaining highway funding; a bipartisan effort to ease painful, automatic cuts to the Pentagon and domestic agencies. Those cuts are the byproduct of Washington's previous failures to tackle the government's deficit woes.

- Father God, Once again, the president has submitted a budget to Congress that shows an out-of-control agenda for our nation. We are all being burdened by this huge debt. Lord God, we ask for a miracle: that the executive branch and the legislative branch of our government will, indeed, work together to find common ground that will bless our nation and not burden us any further. We call forth the 2/3 votes in both the House and the Senate that will be needed, in the end, to override a veto of this legislation, and we ask all this in Your Mighty and Powerful Name, amen and amen.

- "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm 11:3 NKJV)

7. Confirmation hearings set to begin for Carter as next defense secretary amid daunting global challenges- Fox News

Senate hearings on whether to confirm Ashton Carter as President Obama's pick to be the new defense secretary are set to begin next week, amid widespread, military-related challenges around the globe.

The hearings are scheduled to begin Wednesday in the Senate Armed Services Committee. If confirmed, Carter would replace Secretary Chuck Hagel, who announced in December 2014 that he would resign from the post when a replacement is confirmed.

Carter faces an array of challenges, with the unexpected problems emerging as among the most challenging. U.S. troops are now back in Iraq, after the U.S. ended the war on terrorism in the Middle East country in 2011, this time trying to help the local militia defeat The Islamic State. The violent extremist group has recently flourished in Iraq and has taken control of parts of the country.

In addition, the recent outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa has required the unexpected and urgent deployment of U.S. troops.

- Heavenly Father, as You are fully aware, there is so much turmoil and conflict across the world, so we know the job of heading up the Pentagon and military resources of our nation is an overwhelming job. We come before You and seek whom You would have to fill this position and ask that You would rise up and make Your choice known. Direct and guide through the confirmation process Your chosen person to fill this position, as You alone know what the future holds. We pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding." (Proverbs 4:7 NKJV)

8. Letter With Suspicious Powder Received at Samaritan's Purse- Newsmax

The FBI says it is investigating a suspicious letter containing white powder that was sent to the headquarters of the Samaritan's Purse charity in western North Carolina. The agency said the letter was received Friday at the charity's headquarters in the town of Boone. State and local agencies are participating in the investigation. The charity is run by the Rev. Franklin Graham, the son of evangelist Billy Graham. The charity has made headlines in recent months for its work in fighting Ebola in West Africa.

FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch said she didn't have information on how many people may have handled the letter at the charity. The FBI noted that while most letters with white powder are hoaxes, it is taking all necessary precautions during the investigation.

- Heavenly Father, we seek for You to send Your warrior angels to surround the staff of Samaritan's Purse, fully protecting all involved with the work done by this charity. We know recently that an airplane accident almost had tragic consequences, and we thank You for Your protection of Franklin Graham and the people traveling with him. We have read how he boldly stands up for his belief in You, and we continue to ask that all evil plots and schemes against him and this charity come to nothing, in the Name of Jesus and under His Shed Blood, Amen and Amen.

- "Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause." (Psalm 25:3 NKJV)

9. Incredulous, Down-to-the-Wire Super Bowl Win for Patriots as Undrafted Rookie Saves the Day, Fulfilling a "Vision" Given to Him - Breaking Christian News

The nail-biting game left viewers stunned in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter with the winning interception that sparked an on-field brawl. Oh, and then there were the commercials. . . . (Read the full report here.)

- Lord God, the more we consider the outcome of this amazing game, the fact that this rookie gave You the Glory on the field for his win, the somber tone of most of the commercials and even the rather subdued nature of the half-time show, we stand in awe of You. Thank You, Lord, for hearing the prayers and the heartfelt cries of millions of Christians across our land, that Super Bowl XLIX would reflect Your grace upon us and be an experience that all families could safely view together. We praise Your Name, O Lord, amen and amen.

- "The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth." (Psalm 145:18)

10. ISIS Threatens to Behead President Obama in the White House - Charisma News

(Washington, DC) - Islamic State militants will "transform America into a Muslim province," their latest video alleges.

"This is the fate of anyone who opposes Islam. Know, oh Obama, that we will reach America," a fighter says in the video, according to a translation by the Middle East Muslim Research Institute.

"Know also that we will cut off your head in the White House and transform America into a Muslim province. Know that we are men who fear no one. We will institute the laws of Allah, may he be exalted and praised."

The terrorist group issued threats to other Western nations, including France and Belgium. (Read more)

- Lord God, as Your intercessors, we do stand in the gap for the life of Barack Hussein Obama, for You want none to perish, but all to find eternal life in You. Let the threats of ISIS come to naught, and rest Your Hand of protection upon our land, we ask, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)

1. Israeli air force chief: We may have to send planes to Iran tomorrow - Times of Israel

Israel's air force commander gave an apparently unintended insight into his priorities and preoccupations, when he remarked during comments about the defense budget that Israel might need to send its attack planes to Tehran at very short notice.

Speaking about the imperative for the government to allocate additional funding to the armed forces, Israel Air Force chief Major-General Amir Eshel declared that "there's no one in this room who'd be prepared to ride in a car as old as our planes. I'm telling you, no-one. Yesterday these planes were in Gaza, and tomorrow we may send them to Tehran." The remarks were not delivered in the tone of a threat, but rather as a statement about a possible mission that would require up-to-date equipment.

Eshel's comments, broadcast Sunday on the local Channel 2 News, came as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yair Lapid sparred over the national budget, with Netanyahu earlier Sunday asserting that, in the wake of the summer's 50-day Israel-Hamas conflict, "We need a significant increase of several billion in the defense budget." 2. Iranian commander: Zionists should fear Hezbollah response anywhere in the world - Jerusalem Post

The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Ali Jafari, told reporters in Tehran that Hezbollah's attack against Israel last week was the minimum response to its previous air strike in Syria and that from now on Zionists should not feel safe anywhere in the world.

Commenting on the Iranian-backed Hezbollah's rocket attack on Wednesday that killed two IDF soldiers on the Lebanese border, Jafari said that "we hope that this response will be a lesson for them not to do such wrong deeds anymore," Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Saturday. (Read more)

3. Hezbollah Backs Down from War with Israel - Breitbart

Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah gave a televised speech on Wednesday gloating about Wednesday's attack on an Israeli convoy that killed two soldiers. According to Nasrallah:

If Israel thinks the resistance is deterred and is scared of a conflict, I tell you now after the attack in Qunetra, we are not afraid of war. We will not think twice about confronting the enemy and we will do so if he forces us. We don't want war but we don't fear it. The resistance in Lebanon is not concerned with rules of engagement. It is our legitimate and legal right to fight aggression, wherever and whenever it may occur.

It was a retaliation attack for Israel's January 18 airstrike at a convoy in Syria that killed two of Hezbollah's top commands, as well as five Iranians and a senior officer in Iran's élite Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). It was feared that Hezbollah would demand additional revenge beyond the killing of two Israeli soldiers, or that Israel would strike back. Either way, the fear was that something would spiral into a larger war, as had happened in 2006.

But, in fact, there had already been several reports that Hezbollah was signaling to Israel that it was backing down and did not want a war. (Read more)

4. Iranian site suggests targeting PM's sons in response to Syria strike
-Times of Israel

An Iranian news site affiliated with the country's Revolutionary Guards suggested Iran target Yair and Avner Netanyahu, the sons of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response to an alleged Israeli strike on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights last week in which 12 Hezbollah and Iranian operatives were killed, including an Iranian general.

An article on Mashregh News listed a number of ways Tehran could respond to the alleged assault, including a "revenge operation" involving the Netanyahu boys - who are shown in a photo on the website as if in the crosshairs of a sniper's scope - Shaul Olmert, son of former PM Ehud Olmert and Gilad and Omri Sharon, the sons of the late prime minister Ariel Sharon. 5. Netanyahu: UNIFIL failing to report weapons smuggling - Times of Israel

In a conversation with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu charged Sunday that the United Nations was failing to implement Security Council Resolution 1701 and that soldiers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were "not reporting on the smuggling of weapons into southern Lebanon."

Passed unanimously by the Security Council in August 2006, Resolution 1701 effectively ended 34 days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, known as the Second Lebanon War. The document called for the disarmament of all groups, including Hezbollah, and the ban on all armed forces except UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army in southern Lebanon, two stipulations that were never implemented. Israel believes Hezbollah's weapons stock has been replenished and significantly upgraded since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011. According to foreign reports, Israel has launched several preemptive airstrikes over the past few years aimed at preventing advanced weaponry from reaching the terror group.

Netanyahu also told Ban the international community was ignoring Iran's efforts to "export terrorism around the world," accusing Tehran of being behind the Hezbollah attack on the Israel-Lebanon border that killed two IDF soldiers last week and of trying to establish a new front against Israel in the Golan Heights with its involvement in Syria. 6. Expect many more rounds of fighting after Gaza war, IDF Northern Command chief warns - Jerusalem Post

Israel must expect many future rounds of fighting with its enemies, the head of the IDF's Northern territorial Command, and former head of Military Intelligence, Maj.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi has warned.

Speaking to an annual meeting of the 188 Armored Corps Brigade on Sunday, Kochavi said Operation Protective Edge - the 50 day war against Hamas last summer - was "one round of fighting, and many more will follow it." His comments were made available by the army on Monday.

Col. Tomer Yirfrah, commander of the 188 Brigade, also spoke at the meeting, and addressed recent security incidents in the north. "Recently, winds of war blow around us, and the brigade is fully prepared." (Read more)

7. Hamas furious at Egypt: "No longer a mediator in Israeli-Palestinian matters" - Jerusalem Online

Egyptian Court decision to declare the military wing of Hamas as a terrorist organization inflames Hamas' anger. A reliable source in Gaza, close to Hamas, told Reuters today (Saturday) that following Cairo Court ruling to designate the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, as a terrorist organization, his organization will no longer accept Egypt as a broker between it and Israel.

Earlier today Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri also addressed the issue: "We reject the court's decision, this is a political decision that serves only the occupation."

The Cairo Court ruling came merely two days after of a series of co-ordinated terror attacks were carried out on Sinai. Egyptian officials told AP that the military wing of Hamas, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, was involved in the recent terror attacks against security forces in Egypt, particularly in Sinai. - Assist News

MOSUL, IRAQ (ANS - January 28, 2015) -- Jihadists have resumed their bombings against the historic sites in Nineveh and destroyed remains of the ancient wall of Mosul, specialized sources reported today; while local politicians accused the United States of hampering the counterterrorist fight.

According to a story released by the Assyrian International News Agency (www.aina.org), an historian living in Mosul, the second largest in Iraq, told the publication Shafaq News that militants of the Islamic State (IS) destroyed on Tuesday night much of the historic city wall located on Tahrir neighborhood on the left coast of Mosul. 9. Israeli Ambassador: Netanyahu Never Meant to Disrespect Obama
- The Atlantic

. . . Israel's policy is not merely to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon today; it is also to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon in the future. And Israel is very concerned that a deal will be forged that will not dismantle Iran's nuclear-weapons capability. We are concerned that it would leave Iran with an advanced nuclear infrastructure today-relying on intelligence and inspectors to prevent Iran from breaking out or sneaking out to the bomb-and in the foreseeable future enable Iran to have an industrial-sized nuclear program, as the timeframe for this agreement runs out and all sanctions are removed. That is an outcome that is unacceptable to Israel. (Read more)

Muslim Brotherhood Visits The State Department

The Obama State Department hosted a delegation of Muslim Brotherhood leaders this week. The Brotherhood are radical Islamists who ascended to power in Egypt in 2011 with the support of the Obama Administration.

The Egyptian people rose up against the Brotherhood after it failed to curtail corruption and when its leader, Mohamed Morsi, unsurprisingly attempted to seize dictatorial powers. The Egyptian military arrested Morsi and ousted the Brotherhood in 2013.

A State Department official justified the meeting saying, "We meet with representatives from across the political spectrum in Egypt." That's an odd way to put it. Egypt banned the Brotherhood in December 2013 as a terrorist organization. Four other countries also consider it to be a terrorist group.

And with good reason. It's slogan is: "Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Quran is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope. Allahu Akbar!"

So it really shouldn't surprise anyone that, just two days after its members were walking the halls of our State Department, the Muslim Brotherhood is now issuing a call for jihad against the Egyptian government. A statement posted on the Brotherhood's website reads:

". . .we are in the process of a new phase . . . where we recall the meanings of jihad and prepare ourselves, our wives, our sons, our daughters, and whoever marched on our path to a long, uncompromising jihad, and during this stage we ask for martyrdom."

Amazing, isn't it? The Obama Administration is trying to stop Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of America's friend and ally, from coming to the United States to warn Congress and the American people about the threat of a nuclear Iran. But it puts out the welcome mat for our enemies. (Gary Bauer)

Hamas Prepares For War

Hamas Prepares For War

by Gary Bauer

Published on Friday, January 30, 2015

A couple of stories from the Middle East today caught my attention. Radical Islam is on the march and, as usual, Western leaders seem oblivious.

Today's Washington Post front page story on Hamas should be required reading in Congress. A Post reporter recently got access to terrorist training camps run by Hamas in Gaza. More than 17,000 teenagers and young men were trained to fire Kalashnikov rifles, throw grenades and build improvised explosive devices.

One 16-year-old, who was trained with rocket-propelled grenades and mortars, told the Post, "I want to fight Israel. I want to kick them out of our land. I am ready now." A 15-year-old said, "I joined the camp because I want to know how to confront the Jews. . ." Another said, "Every day we have someone from Hamas giving us a lesson on jihad and the importance of it."

One Hamas trainer said they had to turn away hundreds of 12 and 13-year-old boys. "They were standing on their tiptoes trying to get in." Referring to last year's war in which more 2,000 Palestinians died, he added, "We have plenty who want to join. They want to retaliate. They want revenge." Of course, what he failed to mention is that Hamas started that war.

During the graduation ceremony, a senior Hamas commander told the young jihadis that Hamas was "busy getting ready for the next battle," and that they were preparing the "next generation . . . for Jerusalem, the West Bank and Palestine."

My friends, no one wants peace more than the Israelis do. But where are the peace partners with whom the Israelis are supposed to negotiate?

Let me remind you that Israel gave up Gaza ten years ago, hoping for peace. Look what has happened! The Post writes that Hamas has waged three wars against Israel in the past six years and it is clearly preparing for another one. Thousands of Palestinian families are sending their children to terrorist training camps to become jihadis, to learn how to kill Jews.

Published on the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation
of the Auschwitz Death Camp

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

by Gary Bauer
Seventy years ago today, Soviet forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz, revealing some of the worst horrors of the Holocaust. More than one million people were systematically murdered at Auschwitz. Nearly all of them were Jews, killed as part of Hitler's "final solution to the Jewish question," which ultimately claimed six million Jewish lives.

In 2005, as Iran's president was threatening a second Holocaust by vowing to "wipe Israel off the map," the United Nations voted to recognize January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

In Poland today, about 300 Auschwitz survivors gathered to mark the anniversary. Commenting on the rising anti-Semitism that is sweeping across Europe, Roman Kent, president of the International Auschwitz Committee, choked back tears as he said, "We survivors do not want our past to be our children's future."

The Washington Post interviewed four Auschwitz survivors and posted their stories online. I want to share with you the remarks of Marta Wise, who now resides in Israel.

"I used to be an optimist until a few years ago, but the situation in the Middle East has changed and the world does not notice anything. Reading the newspaper in the past few days is just like reading the newspaper in the 1930s. The world has not changed at all. The bottom line is it can happen again and it is happening again in many places, not necessarily to the Jews, but to anyone."

Sadly, Marta is right. It is astonishing to think that ten years after the U.N. vote establishing International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we are still negotiating with Iran over its nuclear weapons program. Meanwhile, militant Islamists are marauding across the Middle East vowing to kill hundreds of millions of people.

Pray that Western Civilization can muster the courage to defeat this evil just as we defeated the evil of Nazism 70 years ago.

What this Man Created Helped Revolutionize "Everything from Medicine to Manufacturing"

"My own view is that, while science and religion may seem different, they have many similarities and should interact and enlighten each other." -Charles Townes

Charles Townes, the co-creator of the laser and a Nobel Prize winner, died Tuesday in Oakland, California. He was 99 years old.

Townes was also known for his strong spiritual faith and spoke often about the convergence of science and religion, infuriating many in both communities.

In 2005, Townes won the Templeton Prize for progress toward research or discoveries about spiritual realities.

"My own view is that, while science and religion may seem different, they have many similarities and should interact and enlighten each other," he wrote.

The laser paved the way for other scientific discoveries that revolutionized everything from medicine to manufacturing, among other things. (Breaking Christian News) Read more.

St. Paul (Alaska) area hit with slew of higher magnitude earthquakes
in last 48 hours

The St. Paul region in the Pribilof Islands have been receiving some high activity of higher magnitude earthquakes in the last 48 hours, officials say. "We have seen five higher magnitude earthquakes (above 4.5 ML) in that region since Friday afternoon," said Paul Huang, of the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer.

The first of the higher magnitude earthquakes took place Friday around 4:39 p.m. with a magnitude of about 4.09 ML according to the Alaska Earthquake Center. Two more higher magnitude earthquakes followed on Saturday morning, within 10 minutes of each other. The first earthquake took place at around 8:39 a.m. with a magnitude of about 5.05 ML. This was followed closely by a second one at 8:49 a.m. with a magnitude of about 4.52 ML. Later that morning, the area received its fourth strong earthquake at about 11:47 a.m. with a magnitude of about 4.83 ML.

The fifth and sixth earthquakes in the region took place Sunday morning. The first earthquake on Sunday took place at about 2:20 a.m. with a magnitude of 4.89 ML. The next earthquake, which is the most recent one felt in the area, took place at 8:40 a.m. with a magnitude of about 5.05 ML.

"It is interesting because this area is not historically prone to higher magnitude earthquakes," said Huang. "The last big earthquake we had in that region was a 6.7 ML earthquake in 1991."

Officials and residents alike are worried about the sudden frequency of earthquakes. "I felt one this morning. The whole house was rumbling like the dryer was on. But it wasn't the dryer." said Andrew Fratis, a resident of St. Paul Island. "There isn't a tsunami warning because the waters are shallow in that region," said Huang.
