The Daily Brief

1. Putin's NYT Op-Ed Roils Washington - Newsmax

Reaction came swiftly Thursday to Vladimir Putin's surprise appearance in the op-ed pages of The New York Times, where he challenged President Barack Obama over Syria. Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan called the Russian president's article "outstanding," while Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez said it made him want to vomit.

Others from both left and right slammed Moscow's strongman for lecturing the United States about human rights. But all sides agreed it was a stunning propaganda coup for Putin with the Times itself saying that the 60-year-old former KGB chief is now clearly the most powerful leader in the world. (Read more)

- In 1957, the world watched while Nikita Kruschev banged his shoe on a table at the United Nations, screaming at America, "we will bury you!" That agenda has not changed to this day.

Pray that the American people not be deceived by the "Russian bear" in the midst of the quagmire that is the crisis now in Syria. God will make a way; let's trust Him -- not Russia -- to show us the way out.

- " . . . and by good words and fair speeches [they] deceive the hearts of the naive." (Romans 16:18)

2. Assad's Suspected Biological Weapons More Lethal Than His Chemical Arsenal -CNS News

The debate surrounding a chemical attack in Syria last month shifted Monday to a proposal for the Assad regime to surrender its chemical weapons arsenal to avoid a U.S. military strike -- but little has been said about its alleged possession of even-deadlier biological weapons.

- Father, we know that this regime has been at the forefront of weaponry that is banned by the United Nations. We ask that You protect the people of Syria and the region against any use of these evil mechanisms of death.

- "There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague come near your dwelling." [Psalm 91:10]

3. House Republicans delay vote on spending, 'Obamacare' after split - Reuters

A Republican plan aimed at averting a government shutdown in less than three weeks ran into a wall of opposition on Wednesday from conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives, and leaders delayed any votes on it until at least next week.

- Lord, as this possible government shutdown looms upon us, we pray for wisdom for our legislators. We pray for a solution that handles the concerns of all Americans.

-"Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part You shall make me to know wisdom." [Psalm 51:6]

4. AFL-CIO calls ObamaCare 'highly disruptive' to union health plans- Fox News

The AFL-CIO approved a resolution saying that President Obama's health care overhaul will drive up the costs of union-sponsored health plans to the point that workers and employers are forced to abandon them.

In a strongly worded resolution released Wednesday, the federation said that labor unions still support the Affordable Care Act's overall goals of reducing health costs and bringing coverage to all Americans, but added that the law is being implemented in a way that is "highly disruptive" to union health care plans.

Read more:

- Lord, we rejoice that the labor union finally recognized one of the serious problems with the ACA. We pray for Your truth and life to flow throughout the unions, changing hearts and moving them out of the mindsets they have embraced before.

-"Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts shall be established." [Proverbs 16:3]

5. Pope Francis assures atheists: You don't have to believe in God to go to heaven - UK Independent

In comments likely to enhance his progressive reputation, Pope Francis has written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences.

- Lord, there is no heaven without You. So we ask that You reveal Your truth to this man, who has "gone off the reservation" in so many areas. As head of the largest church in the world, we are asking that You reveal yourself to Him and transform his thoughts and heart.

-"For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My Glory." [Isaiah 66:18]

6. Pastor Arrested Before He Could Burn Qurans - AP

A Florida pastor was arrested Wednesday as he drove a pickup truck towing a large barbecue-style grill filled with kerosene-soaked Qurans to a park, where the pastor had said he was planning to burn 2,998 of the Muslim holy books -- one for every victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

- Father, this pastor needs Your wisdom. His angry display does not further Your Kingdom, nor does it do anything but incite violence. We pray that you will touch his heart and remove the bitterness and anger within it.

- "Cease from anger, forsake wrath: do not fret yourself in any way to do evil." [Psalm 37:8]

7. Richard Dawkins defends "mild pedophilia," says it does not cause "lasting harm" - Salon

In a recent interview with the Times magazine, Richard Dawkins attempted to defend what he called "mild pedophilia," which, he says, he personally experienced as a young child and does not believe causes "lasting harm."

- Lord, this man has crossed a line that separates the good from the wicked. We rebuke that demonic stance and bind it in the Name of Jesus. We apply the Blood of Jesus, the work of the Cross against these statements. We ask that You visit this man and show him the truth.

- "the desire of the wicked shall perish" [Psalm112:10b]

8. School Tells Child She Can't Write About God - Fox News

A Tennessee mom is looking for answers after her daughter's teacher refused to let the child write about God for a school assignment.

- Father, we need more than answers in this situation, we need a move of Your Holy Spirit through this school. We pray that the teachers, administration, and students will encounter the power of Your Spirit and be transformed.

-"He sends out His Word and melts them: He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow." [Psalm 147:18]

9. Official: U.S. sending weapons to Syrian rebels- CNN

CIA-funded weapons have begun flowing to Syrian rebels, a U.S. official confirmed late Wednesday night. The official confirmed details first reported by the Washington Post but would not speak publicly.

"That is something we are not going to dispute, but we are not going to publicly speak to it," the official said.

The weapons are not American-made, but are funded and organized by the CIA. They started to reach rebels about two weeks ago, the official said.

- Lord, we are dismayed that these weapons are being funneled to the Syrian rebels, the very ones that attacked and destroyed Christian churches and villages. We pray that You will stop the administration from continually standing with the enemies of Christians and our nation.

- "For the Lord your God is He that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you." [Deuteronomy 20:4]

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)

Christian Families in Pakistan Flee Village Fearing Attack on Community - Christian Today

Dozens of Christian families have fled from their homes in a village near Lahore after a pastor was accused of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad.

In a discussion with a Muslim man on August 24, Pastor Sattar Masih, 37, was accused of saying that Muhammad was a brutal man who killed innocent people.

Masih denies the accusations, saying he said nothing derogatory about Islam or the Prophet.

The pastor was beckoned before Islamic clerics to plead his case. "The clerics will decide if he blasphemed against our Prophet and in case he refused to appear before the clerics then we will kill him," said his accuser, 18-year-old Ali Hassan.

Fearing he would not be given a fair trial, Masih fled to Lahore with 21-year-old Christian Wasim Raza, who had introduced Hassan to the pastor, after a group of Muslims had undertaken a house-to-house search for them.

Masih told World Watch Monitor that one cleric had asked him if he had said Muhammad was a cruel man. "I clearly refuted the claim and told him that I had only defended that the Bible is still in its original form," he said.

The Daily Jot

The Syrian Shell Game

Did you know that your taxpayer money is being used to arm al Qaeda in Syria? The Washington Post reports that the CIA has begun shipments of small arms, sophisticated communications equipment, food and medical supplies to the "rebels" in Syria--to the tune of $250 million. Now the White House says that these Russian made AK-47s and Barishnikovs will only be used by the "moderates" fighting against the Assad regime. In other words, its a Syrian shell game. The White House wants to support the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda in Syria, but doesn't want the public backlash of aiding terrorists, so they ship the weapons the the Free Syrian Army, which then gives them to the terrorists.

Earlier this month, the UK Telegraph reported that Senator John McCain (R-Az) received assurances from the president that a 50-man cell, "believed to have been trained by US special forces in Jordan," was deploying into Syria. The news story also plays into the Syrian shell game, saying, "Congressional opposition delayed the plan for several weeks and rebel commanders publicly complained the US was still doing nothing to match the Russian-made firepower of the Assad regime. Mr. McCain has been a chief critic of the White House's reluctance to become involved in Syria and has long demanded that [the president] provide the rebels with arms needed to overthrow the regime."

So here it goes: Congress wants to look like its dragging its heels, but even Republicans like McCain are urging the White House to give military aid to rebels in Syria. The president says he wants to give them aid but Congress is an impediment. McCain screams that his terrorist buddies in Syria need weapons, and the president reluctantly does what he wanted to do all along--arm the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda. Of course, he wouldn't want to do that directly, so he arms the Free Syrian Army, which in turn arms the al Nursa Front, which is designated by the US State Department as a terrorist arm of al Qaeda. All the while, the American public is being told we want to help the Syrian "rebels" against Assad.

The president said in his speech Tuesday, "Many of you have asked a broader question: Why should we get involved at all in a place that's so complicated, and where -- as one person wrote to me -- "those who come after Assad may be enemies of human rights?" It's true that some of Assad's opponents are extremists. But al Qaeda will only draw strength in a more chaotic Syria if people there see the world doing nothing to prevent innocent civilians from being gassed to death." Strange logic to give al Qaeda strength and say it will only draw strength if America doesn't provide military support to al Qaeda. Romans 16:18 says, "and by good words and fair speeches [they] deceive the hearts of the naive."

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Vladimir Putin's OpEd in the NYT

KGB Thug Lectures Home Of The Free

Each day in Obama's America brings our beloved country another humiliation. Today Vladimir Putin, a former KGB thug who oversaw the mass murderers of Chechnya, a Russian autocrat still seething from the collapse of the Soviet Union, took to the pages of the New York Times to lecture the American people on what our proper attitude should be about our country and the world. Back when America was the leader of the free world and we had an honorable president worthy of the office he held, Ronald Reagan would regularly go over the heads of the commissars in Moscow to remind the Russian people that liberty was their birthright too. Reagan inspired them and the enslaved people of Eastern Europe to throw off the dead hand of their communist masters. They listened. And prayed. And marched. Walls fell. Tyrants were deposed.

Today Vladimir Putin, a walking dead zombie of the "evil empire" that Reagan helped to vanquish and Obama's new "partner" in the Middle East, without any shame or embarrassment presumes to lecture us in the pages of the Times about American exceptionalism and even about God.

"It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation," wrote Putin.

What is truly dangerous is when dictatorial states like the former Soviet Union convince their people that they are just slaves for the state to exploit, that their labor belongs to the state, that their money belongs to the state, that the state will give them what it thinks they deserve, and that no one dare excel because under socialism everyone is equally miserable.

Will Obama defend the idea of American exceptionalism from this attack by a moral midget who formed his values in the KGB? He might try out of political expediency, but it would be half-hearted and ineffective. Obama doesn't really believe in American exceptionalism either -- he believes in shrinking us, not elevating us as a "shining city upon a hill." Traveling in Europe in 2009, Obama was asked if he believed in American exceptionalism. "I believe in American exceptionalism," Obama replied. So far so good. Then he continued, "Just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."

In other words, if everyone's special then nobody is special, including America.

America IS an exceptional country, not because of our military strength or our GNP. We are exceptional because America is the first country founded on the idea that human dignity and liberty come from God, not government. Our Founders believed, as do I, that America was forged with help from the hand of Providence. . .

Obama's presidency is sad evidence that not only our elites, but also many Americans are losing confidence in who we are and why, to survive, we must be devoted to ordered liberty under God. (Gary Bauer, End-of-Day; Sept. 12, 2013; excerpt)

Chrisitian Persecution in the U.S. Military

Believers asked to Defend Persecuted Christians in the U.S. Military

The persecution continues to accelerate.

Senior Master Sergeant Phillip Monk was read his Miranda rights at Lackland Air Force Base, after he publically reported his relief from duty in June for disagreeing with his openly lesbian commanding officer, Maj. Elisa Valenzuela's assertion that a subordinate's expressed opposition to same-sex "marriage" constituted discrimination. SMSgt. Monk filed a petition for redress with Valenzuela under the UCMJ (Article 138). Now, he is under investigation for making false official statements (UCMJ 107) for stating publicly and to the press that he believed he was being discriminated against due to his Christian beliefs.

FRC Executive Vice President, Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (Ret.-USA) believes these official statements are, in fact, trumped up charges and an effort to intimidate all believers in the U.S. Military. He believes the Air Force is saying to Christian servicemen and women: "If you are a target of religious discrimination, you must remain silent about it or risk court martial" (Please pray and sign the petition to Acting Secretary of the Air Force Eric Fanning).

Bikers vs. Muslims

Bikers vs. Muslims

"Two Million Bikers" Rally Roars Into D.C. Area for 9/11

These are challenging times. But those of us who believe that America remains the last, best of hope of man on earth should be encouraged by the results of two rallies.

A coalition of left-wing organizations and Islamists attempted to pull off a "million Muslim march" on Washington yesterday. Yes, you read that right -- a "million Muslim march" in Washington on the anniversary of 9/11. It was a total flop. About two dozen people showed up.

A group of patriots organized the "Two Million Bikers" rally as a protest. The name was a tongue-in-cheek response. They never intended to get 2 million bikers to Washington. But thousands of patriots did show up and their presence made quite an impression! (Gary Bauer)

The Good News Corner:

Horrific Spree of Mass Rape and Terror in Tampa Hits a Pivot Point When a Woman of Faith Does One Bold Thing

Police say Charlie "Chris" Bates had just finished raping four women at gunpoint after tying up the four men who were with them in a Tampa, Fla. apartment.

Bates then found what he thought was his next victim, a woman sitting on her porch at another apartment complex.

Police say Bates forced the woman inside her unit, . . . and was about to rape her, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Then she did something amazingly bold and faithful: She began praying. And she recited John 3:16 from the Bible, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

"For God so loved the world . . ."

Police say Bates' whole demeanor transformed.

He apologized to the woman, gave her a shirt, and they prayed together.

She tried to hand him her Bible, but when Bates wouldn't take it, she ripped pages out and gave them to him, the Times says.

After he left, she called 911.

The prayers probably saved the woman's life, police said.

Twelve hours later on Friday Bates, 24, was fatally wounded by police after a high-speed chase in which authorities exchanged at least 100 bullets with him. Bates is also suspected of shooting at another man, stealing a friend's car, and threatening a large group of partygoers during his 14-hour rampage, authorities told the Tribune.

Billion Souls Prayer Call

Billion Souls Revival Prayer Call

Devotional for Day 38
12 September 2013

Submitted by:

Warwick Marsh, National Day of Prayer and Fasting, Australia

www.nationaldayofprayer.com.au

Intention:

To share in God's grief and love and allow that grief and love to spur us to prayer and action.

Scripture:

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart . . . The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. (Genesis 6:5-6, 11 KJV)

Reflection:

I often think of these verses in Genesis and how God's heart was grieved when he looked upon the earth which was full of violence and wickedness because every imagination of man's heart was evil.

I remember the first time I saw the Movie 'The Silent Scream' in 1985 which was narrated by former abortionist, Bernard Nathanson, who had himself committed 60,000 abortions.

I was so grief-stricken I went up to a mountain that overlooks Wollongong and cried for 2 hours. That movie showed an abortion on ultrasound. You could see the baby trying to get away from the suction tube on the screen. I could not imagine the evil that had so filled our hearts that we, the world over, could legalise such a barbaric practice. Worse still was that this terminal act of violence was conducted against the most innocent and defenceless of human beings.

The womb has now become the most dangerous place for a human being to exist. Each year 44 million children suffer this terminal act of violence. Only four babies out of five make it out of the womb alive. In the three minutes it has taken you read this devotion, another 240 babies have been killed. So let us join together in asking God for forgiveness and cleansing for our silence as Christians on this issue and for the healing of our land. The Billions Souls Revival Prayer Call is an 'imagination for righteousness' because we can make a difference when we pray together.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, you love us and you are not willing that anyone should perish. You are grieved with our violence and wickedness. We are made in your image and we should not destroy each other - much less the innocent children that are yet to be born. Lord forgive us for the sin of silence. Bring an end to abortion and turn back the tide of death and immorality that is sweeping the nations of the world. In Jesus' Name. Amen!

Review: The four prayer points:

1. Pray for a worldwide outpouring of the Holy Spirit for revival and transformation of the nations of the world.

2. Pray for a billion people to find Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

3. Pray for an end to abortion and for God to turn back the tide of death and immorality that is sweeping the nations of the world.

4. Pray for a multiplication of prayer, praise and worship to God across the world as never before, to bring great glory to God.
