The Daily Brief

1a. 'We Only Want to Kill Non-Muslims': Al-Shabab Jihadists Kill at Least 68 - Breitbart

An upscale mall in Nairobi, Kenya was attacked on Saturday when gunmen threw grenades and opened fire on patrons. At least 25 have been killed and 50 wounded, but those numbers are expected to grow.

Elijah Kamau, who was at the mall at the time of the midday attack, said that the gunmen made a declaration that non-Muslims would be targeted. 'The gunmen told Muslims to stand up and leave. They were safe, and non-Muslims would be targeted,' he said." (Read more)
[Note: The death toll is now 68, with 175 injured.]

1b. Pakistan church blast kills 78 - BBC

A twin-suicide bombing outside a church in Peshawar in Pakistan has killed at least 78 people, in one of the worst attacks on Christians in the country.

Two bombers blew themselves up as worshippers were coming out of the city's historic All Saints church after attending Sunday Mass, police say. Relatives of the victims gathered at the scene to protest against the government's failure to protect them. (Read more)

- The jihadists have taken the gloves off, and nowhere in the world will believers be safe any more, except in the arms of our Savior. Pray that multitudes will now come to Christ, and ask our Lord to forgive these criminals (as only He can do), for they know not what they do.

Lift up the authorities around the world who work in security (Interpol, Scotland Yard, MI6, the U.S. agencies and others) that they will find the grace to work together now in an unprecedented way to apprehend these criminals and the networks that connect them together. God has answers; let's ask Him to release them. In Jesus' Name, amen.

- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

2. Obama urges new gun law push at CBC Foundation dinner - Fox News

Days after mass shootings in both of his hometowns, President Barack Obama urged his most ardent supporters Saturday "to get back up and go back at it" and help push stalled legislation out of Congress so dangerous people won't get their hands on guns. "We can't rest until all of our children can go to school or walk down the street free from the fear that they will be struck down by a stray bullet," Obama said in a keynote speech to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual awards dinner.

The White House said after Monday's shooting that Obama is using his executive authority to tighten access to guns and remains committed to strengthening gun laws, including requiring background checks for sales online and at gun shows. (Read more)

- Lord God, this has become an example of "the fox watching the hen house." We ask that You would reveal this travesty to the public, and that the media would pick up this report and let our people know what is happening. Rise up Lord, and extend Your right hand and arm into the midst of this, causing all that is hidden to be exposed into Your supreme light for everyone to see. We ask in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape." (Proverbs 19:5)

3. Obamacare, Government Shutdown Debate Splits '16 GOP Contenders - Newsmax

A clear divide over President Barack Obama's health care law separates the emerging field of potential 2016 GOP presidential candidates. And it offers a preview of the battle Republicans nationwide will fight in their effort to build the party and win back the White House. On one side of the health care fight are Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and others who say they are standing on principle and willing to oppose the law at all costs. On the other side are those taking what they call a pragmatic approach by accepting the law, if grudgingly, and moving on. Holding that view are New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, this article reflects the huge divide in our nation as to those who are supposed to be representing our interests and rights. Some appear to understand that this law is not wanted by a large majority of the public, while others are acting based on their personal interests. We ask You, Father, to remain in the midst of this ongoing debate. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen and Amen.

- "For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright." (Psalm 11:7)

4. Obama to Boehner: No Deal on Debt Limit, Defunding Obamacare - Newsmax

President Barack Obama called House Speaker John Boehner late Friday and reiterated that he would not negotiate with Congress on raising the debt limit, a Boehner representative told Newsmax.

"The president called the speaker this evening to tell him he wouldn't negotiate with him on the debt limit," the spokesman said in a statement. "Given the long history of using debt limit increases to achieve bipartisan deficit reduction and economic reforms, the speaker was disappointed, but told the president that the two chambers of Congress will chart the path ahead. "It was a brief call," the Boehner spokesman said.

The president also called House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the White House said. "The president telephoned Speaker Boehner and told him again that the full faith and credit of the United States should not and will not be subject to negotiation," an administration official told Politico in a statement. "The president reiterated that it is the constitutional responsibility of the U.S. Congress to pass the nation's budget and pay the nation's bills." (Read more)

- Abba Father, this nation is not able to pay its debt and is spending money it does not have. We all know personally that this does not work for long. Yet Congress is being informed that no negotiation over the debt limit or the healthcare law that so many oppose will be tolerated by the executive branch. Help us Lord as this appears to not be humanly possible to settle in a way that will benefit the long term future of this nation! We ask in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise', says the Lord; 'I will set him in the safety for which he yearns." (Psalm 12:5)

5. Paul: We probably can't get rid of 'Obamacare' - Fox News

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul said Saturday that President Barack Obama's healthcare law is unlikely to be repealed or defunded and suggested that there were few options and not much time left for his fellow congressional Republicans to halt the law's full implementation.

Speaking to reporters at a gathering of Michigan Republicans, Paul, a hot prospect for a presidential campaign in 2016, said Republicans in Congress could use votes on measures in the House and in the Senate to come up with compromise legislation that could make the law more palatable. Some provisions, Paul said, include removing caps on health savings account contributions or deductibles for health policies.

But the Kentucky Republican said time for that is running out before Oct. 1, the start of the 2014 fiscal year and the date that state insurance exchanges begin. Paul said Republicans still expect members to fight the law, which national polls show only about a third of Americans support. "I'm acknowledging we can't probably defeat or get rid of Obamacare," he said. "But by starting with our position of not funding it, maybe we get to a position where we make it less bad." (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, the need to change this law has been evident for months and yet inertia has been the general response from those chosen to represent us. The scenarios of job loss, of work hour loss, and of health care coverage from work being eliminated has been reported for a long time. This is not representation but is acting on what they want versus what those whom they are supposed to serve need. Direct our prayer, Father, in Jesus' Name, Amen and Amen.

- "Buy the truth and do not sell it, also wisdom and instruction and understanding." (Proverbs 23:23)

6. 'Intrusive and Unsettling': Man Rigs E-Z Pass Toll Tag to Show It Tracks Cars Outside of Tolls - The Blaze

A New Jersey man modified his E-Z Pass - a device used to automatically pay highway tolls - to alert him every time his it was being connected to by an outside source. He found it wasn't just when passing through tolls that his device was being read. ...The man recorded video of the device being read in non-toll areas and presented his findings at the hacking conference Defcon, which took place in August. (Read more)

- Lord, it is increasingly becoming more and more obvious that we as citizens of this nation are being tracked excessively! Despite protest there does not appear to be much we can do to stop this. Lord, download the wisdom to Your people of how to confront and remediate all this surveillance, and please bring our security apparatus back into its original mission: to secure the safety of our people and not to act as a "Big Brother" that is watching all of us, all the time. We ask this in the Name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.

- "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (Proverbs 9:10)

7. Homeland Security to test BOSS facial recognition at junior hockey game- Biometric Update

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will test its crowd-scanning facial recognition system, known as the Biometric Optical Surveillance System, or BOSS, at a junior hockey game this weekend. With assistance from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, DHS will test its system at a Western Hockey League game in Washington state. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, here again our federal government is doing surveillance to an intense level without reason or justification of why every citizen must be involved. Our liberties and constitutional rights appear to be gone. We ask You Lord, to protect us and confront these spirits of manipulation and control, binding them down and returning them to their original source seven fold. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen and Amen.

- "But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble." (Proverbs 4:18-19)

8. McConnell: Obama's 'War on Coal' is a 'War on Jobs' - Newsmax

Coal producers, utilities and Republicans and Democrats in Congress all say new pollution standards announced Friday would effectively outlaw construction of new coal-fired power plants, raise prices for electricity and cost jobs. The draft regulations would impose the first cap on carbon emissions from new power plants, dealing a blow to the market for coal. While restrictions on emissions of sulfur dioxide and other pollutants have been in place for years, these are a first for gases blamed for global warming.

"These carbon pollution standards are flexible and achievable," EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy said in remarks at the National Press Club in Washington. "They pave a path forward for the next generation of power plants." Still, the announcement elicited a strong response from supporters and opponents because the rule locks in place standards that will persist if the market changes. (Read more)

- Father, these new regulations are based on a pseudo science of 'global warming' to justify shutting down coal fired energy sources. As the article states, jobs will be lost in an economy that is desperate for jobs, electrical costs will rise when 4 citizens out of every 5 are struggling badly now as to finances, and sources of power will be blocked. Lord, this is destructive in so many ways. Confront our governing authorities, Lord, with what they are doing with this energy policy, putting the fear of You into every part of their beings, in the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen and Amen.

- "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate." (Proverbs 8:13)

9. Independent NSA spying review not so independent - CBS News

Stung by public unease about new details of spying by the National Security Agency, President Barack Obama selected a panel of advisers he described as independent experts to scrutinize the NSA's surveillance programs to be sure they weren't violating civil liberties and to restore Americans' trust.

But with just weeks remaining before its first deadline to report back to the White House, the review panel has effectively been operating as an arm of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the NSA and all other U.S. spy efforts.

10. Atom bomb nearly exploded over North Carolina in 1961: UK paper - Yahoo.com

A U.S. atom bomb nearly exploded in 1961 over North Carolina that would have been 260 times more powerful than the device that devastated Hiroshima, according to a declassified document published in a British newspaper on Friday.

The incident happened when two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over Goldsboro, North Carolina, after a B-52 bomber broke up in midair. (Read more)

- Lord when the B 52 bomber broke up in the air and these devices fell to the ground without exploding, we lift up praise that our nation was spared at that time. Thank you Lord Jesus for protecting us! Hallelujah, Amen.

- "Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples." (1 Chronicles 16: 23-24)

Prayer vigils mark milestone for jailed pastor

As Iranian-born American pastor Saeed Abedini prepares to mark one year in Iran's notorious Evin Prison for his Christian beliefs and activities, his wife, Naghmeh, is praying that she and the couple's children will be able to see him again.

She won't be alone.

In Uganda, a prayer service is scheduled in Kampala City. In Russia, Christians will pray at Udomlya Baptist Church in Tver. Nigerians will be praying at Saviours' Chapel in Emure Ekiti. There's a prayer event in London and another in Jerusalem. Brazil has more than a dozen locations, and in Czech Republic, it will be at Evangelicky Kostel in Olomouc.

In the United States, the prayer events stretch from Juneau, Alaska, to Sugar Land, Texas, and from Redwood City, Calif., to Augusta, Maine.

The American Center for Law and Justice said the prayer services will be held on or around Sept. 26, which will mark one year in prison for Abedini.

Vigils are scheduled in more than 70 U.S. cities, including Washington, D.C., Abedini's hometown of Boise, Idaho, and 13 more countries.

The hope is that governments of the world will begin to feel the pressure and will take diplomatic action on behalf of the pastor. (WorldNetDaily) Read more.

U.S. Government Plans for National Disaster

USGOV Preparing Nat'l Disaster Medical System for Possible H7N9 Pandemic

What You Need to Know

On several occasions in recent months we have reported on the extraordinary efforts being undertaken by federal health and disaster authorities to prepare for some form of pandemic-scale public health event (see this, this and this). The sheer scale of the preparations, the amounts of money being spent and the speed at which these preparations are taking place reveal significant concern on the part of authorities.

. . . In recent weeks, FEMA and the CDC have put out a flurry of new solicitations for related acquisitions that are sure to raise some eyebrows. . .

By all indications these items clearly are being ordered to support not the general public, but emergency health workers. In addition, all of these items and the related services must be able to be delivered under what is known as "surge tempo", or typically, 48 hours notice, and each of these solicitations include references to major public health events.

Here again, we highlight that you should not expect the mainstream media to report these developments but the U.S. government, including FEMA, the Dept. of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and the Dept. of Agriculture have been taking extraordinary measures to prepare for a possible H7N9 pandemic that appears to be originating out of the Far East and Asia. 1 Million Truckers To Protest Obama

1 Million Truckers To Protest Obama By Shutting America Down

Strike to Last Three Days: Oct. 11,12, 13

One week after nearly a million patriotic bikers converged on Washington, D.C. for the 12th anniversary of 9/11, a large group of truckers has announced its plans to halt commerce across the nation for three days next month. The strike is planned as a response to D.C. "corruption that is destroying America," according to the movement's Facebook page.

Organizers say that truckers taking part in the strike will not haul freight for three days, beginning Oct. 11. A social media campaign launched earlier this week has already garnered tens of thousands of supporters.

The event is set to include a convoy to the nation's capital, and early feedback shows that many drivers are eager to join the movement.

Photos of trucks and drivers planning to take part in the event are consistently being posted to the Facebook page, "Truckers to Shut Down America," and many who cannot join are pledging to keep their rigs parked during the strike.

If successful, the strike could result in significant gridlock - both on the streets of Washington, D.C. and between points of delivery throughout the nation.

According to the movement's social media administrators, the three-day strike hopes to accomplish three specific goals. In addition to interrupting truck deliveries and engaging in the trucker convoy, organizers hope to elicit support from the general population.

Calling for a general strike among American citizens of all stripes, the final objective is "No shopping. No paying bills. No using money for three days."

Unquestionably a lofty goal, a large number of Facebook users seem inclined to take part.

"Thank you Truckers for speaking for all of us," wrote one supporter. (Western School of Journalism) Read more.

Prayers During Sukkot

Pray for Lost Jews

September 23, 2013
19 Tishrei 5774
Fifth Day of Sukkot

Father in Heaven, grant special blessing to the Lost and Hidden Jews scattered around the world. For centuries, Your people were persecuted for their loyalty to You and many have forgotten their Jewish roots. Help the 'Israel Returns' organization find lost Jews where ever they may be; in Brazil, Poland, China, Peru, Russia and elsewhere, and open their hearts to Your word to reconnect with their Jewish heritage and return to the Land.

Hear the word of the LORD, O you nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say: 'He that scattered Israel is gathering him in, and preserving him, as a shepherd does his flock.' (Jeremiah 31:9)

The Good News Corner:

Former U.S. Senator Wins HHS Mandate Reprieve

An Evangelical-run loan provider in Colorado won a temporary reprieve from a government mandate requiring for-profit businesses and other employers to offer possible abortion-inducing drugs in their employee health plans.

A federal court stopped enforcement of the mandate today for Cherry Creek Mortgage, located in Greenwood Village, just outside of Denver. The company employs 730 people and is licensed in 27 states. Its owners, which include a former U.S. Senator, all oppose the mandate.

"People of faith in this nation, including business owners, have the constitutionally protected freedom to live and do business according to their faith," said Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Senior Counsel Michael J. Norton. "The Obama administration should not be attempting to deprive Americans of this cherished liberty. Former U.S. Sen. Bill Armstrong together with the other members of his family and the May family who own Cherry Creek Mortgage Co. have long desired to honor God in all they do." (CitizenLink) Read more.
