Honoring the Last Day of Sukkot

The Daily Brief

1. CNN Denies Mistranslating Rowhani Interview - Washington Free Beacon

CNN said it did not mistranslate Iranian President Hassan Rowhani's comments about the Holocaust to make him sound more moderate during a Tuesday interview with Christiane Amanpour, contradicting a report that ran in Iran's state-run news agency.

- Father, if indeed this liberal new agency deliberately mistranslated Rowhani's remarks, we pray that You will not only reveal it to the entire nation but stop it from ever occurring again.

- ". . . by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive." [Eph 4:14]

2. North Korea seen close to miniaturizing nuclear warhead - UPI

North Korea is close to developing a nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on a long-range ballistic missile, a Chinese expert said in Seoul Wednesday.

- Lord, we trust in You to protect the region and the world from the plans of this dangerous nation.

- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper. . . " [Isaiah 54:17]

3. California college bars student from handing out copies of Constitution -Fox News

The Constitution guarantees the right to free speech, but don't try to pass out copies of it at Modesto Junior College in California.

- Lord, whatever caused this junior college to stop a student from handing out one of our founding documents, we ask that so many people rise up against this action, that any student anywhere will be able to give them out on campuses all across the nation.

- "Truth shall spring out of the earth." [Psalm 85:11a]

4. Researchers warn of 'hit and run' cyber attackers- SpaceDaily.com

Security researchers said Wednesday they uncovered a "cyber mercenary" team which specializes in attacks on targets in Japan and South Korea, and warned of more operations of that nature. Kaspersky Labs identified the group as "Icefog," and said evidence points to it being based in China.

- Lord, we pray protection over the internet and the computer infrastructures of both our allies in that region and ourselves. We take authority over all the plans of the enemy and command them to be dispersed.

- "I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.'" [Psalm 91:2]

5. IRS Watchdog: $67 Million Missing from Obamacare Slush Fund-atr.org

The IRS is unable to account for $67 million spent from a slush fund established for Obamacare implementation, according to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) report released today. The "Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund" (HIRIF) was tucked into Obamacare in order to give the IRS money to enforce the tax provisions of the healthcare law.

- Lord, we pray for this money to be found and truth to be revealed as to what happened to it. If it has been wrongfully used, we ask for justice.

- "Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves. . . therefore I will rid Myself of My adversaries. ." [Isaiah 1:23a,24b]

6. Death toll climbs to at least 349 after powerful Pakistan earthquake-NBC

The death toll from a powerful earthquake that struck northwest Pakistan rose to at least 349 early Thursday, authorities said. The Pakistani military said it had rushed almost 1,000 troops to the area and was sending helicopters in the wake of Tuesday's temblor. An island mass measuring about 60 feet high, 100 feet long and 250 feet wide was created off the coast of Pakistan following a powerful earthquake. Most of the victims were killed when their houses collapsed. At least 550 people were injured.

- Lord, as the news of these earthquakes causes concern, we place our trust in You to help the victims and remind us all that we are in a time of shaking. We pray for the souls of the people in the regions affected.

- "Because the Lord as anointed Me. . . to comfort all who mourn. . . " [Isaiah 61:1a,2a]

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen." (2 Corinthians 13:14 NKJV)

Persecution in Pakistan has Christians Living in a Constant State of Fear - PBS

Pakistan's churches, like their congregants, are not numerous but they've been drawn into the U.S.-led war on militants in this region, becoming both frontier and collateral damage. When news breaks -- whether a drone strike here or an obscure pastor in Florida attempting to burn Qurans, Christians, fewer than 2 percent of Pakistan's 180 million, brace themselves for consequences on their doorstep.

"We always live in a state of tension," Joseph Coutts, the Roman Catholic bishop of Pakistan's commercial capital, Karachi, said in a story to be broadcast on Monday's PBS NewsHour. "What's going to happen next and where is it going to happen?"

Sunday's suicide bombing that killed 78 at the All Saints Church in Peshawar, near the Afghan border, was the latest in a string of attacks in recent months and years. In March, two churches and about 100 Christian homes were ransacked in the eastern city of Lahore.

As adherents to a faith long linked to the West, and America in particular, Christians and churches make convenient proxies and targets for retaliation, he said, compounding an already second-class citizenship many have endured for decades.

Discrimination has long been a way of life for Christians in Pakistan according to human rights activists. Even with affirmative action-like programs to provide public sector jobs to religious minorities, few are able to rise in the ranks.

Most frightening to Christians and other minorities -- including minority sects within Islam -- is a blasphemy law, reworked under ul Haq, which prescribes the death penalty for insulting Islam's Prophet. The law is invoked easily -- often to settle property or business disputes -- by, say, accusing someone of burning pages of the Quran. Vigilante justice swiftly swings into action, long before any legal process can sort out if there's truth to the allegation.

Along with deteriorating law and order and economic conditions, Bishop Coutts says, has risen a violent intolerance over recent decades; a narrow form of extremism that is "not only ready to kill someone for a perceived wrong but even ready to die for it."

The turn-style of calamity in America

Unless Congress acts to overturn socialist health care--translated: government forcing people to buy healthcare through a tax--the future of America as a free country is in jeopardy. If the government can force its citizens to pay for what it says is a "right," the precedent is set to force the population to do a lot more. This should be no surprise to any of us. The cadre of leadership in the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court are collectively the worst in the history of the United States. Then there are the "sheeple" that just go along with things because they think it sounds right. You are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Forbes is reporting that "Based on a Manhattan Institute analysis of the HHS numbers, Obamacare will increase underlying insurance rates for younger men by an average of 97 to 99 percent, and for younger women by an average of 55 to 62 percent." Should it surprise you? There is nothing that the government can offer that private enterprise cannot do better. The government is established to protect the people from violators of the laws and from domestic and foreign enemies. But what happens when the government itself exploits the people? In a Constitutional Republic the people are supposed to be engaged enough that they demand what is lawful and right.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the government cannot mandate healthcare on its people. It ruled, however, that the government can tax the people for healthcare. This is the kind of double talk that causes the ruination of a good people. But good people often cause their own ruination by remaining silent on things that they ought to be outright angry over. Silence is consent. And Americans are about to consent to being taxed for a healthcare system that will ruin their health, spy on them, and take their wealth and redistribute it to people who don't deserve it. But isn't that the way of this government. Taking our tax money and giving it to terrorists, abortionists, homosexuals, investment bankers and so on?

We have become a turn-style of calamity in America due to the leadership we have elected and allowed to remain in office. Many Christians just hold up their hands and say that we have to give Caesar what is Caesar's or quote Romans about submitting to the authorities. By the way, those authorities--in the context of those verses--are the religious authorities who are supposed to be acting justly on behalf of God. Those who want to use these verses to justify inaction as a Christian duty will be the first to perish beneath it and to harm others in the process. We need to understand that an unjust law is no law at all. When the authorities were telling Peter not to preach in the name of Jesus, he replied in Acts 5:29, "We ought to obey God rather than men." I say, "No King but Jesus"--this includes the dictators the sheeple have elected.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Kudos To Cruz

Kudos To Cruz

Yesterday afternoon Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took to the Senate floor vowing to "speak in opposition to Obamacare . . . until I am no longer able to stand." Still able to stand, his time ran out at noon today. Cruz waged the fourth-longest filibuster in Senate history, calling attention to the failures of Obamacare for more than 21 hours.

I applaud Senator Cruz and those who stood with him in this fight. As Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) said this morning, "I don't see the down side to spending the time educating the American people about how dangerous this is." I agree completely. The headlines continue to be filled with bad news for the American people about Obamacare. For example:

- USA Today recently reported on an Obamacare "glitch" that punishes families and will likely cause hundreds of thousands of children to lose the health insurance they currently have.

- The "Affordable Care Act" is not so affordable for many Americans. Fox News reports that one Kentucky family recently learned that their health insurance premiums will "almost triple in 2014 -- from $333 a month to $965." The letter from their insurance company announcing the dramatic increase bluntly stated: "Increases aren't based on your individual claims or changes in health status. . . Many other factors go in to your premium including: ACA compliance." In other words, Obamacare is raising their costs.

- It's not just Kentucky. One report found costs in neighboring Tennessee increasing 97% for single women and 190% for single men. - Even the New York Times now admits that Obamacare will limit patient choices. - Investor's Business Daily reports that more than 300 employers, including private businesses and public institutions, have cut workers' hours and/or eliminated jobs entirely in response to Obamacare's mandates.

Obamacare has been one broken promise after another. It is not affordable, either for individuals or the country. It is hurting the economy. It is causing some Americans to lose their current health insurance and even their jobs.

Of course the liberal media have mocked Senator Cruz for waging this fight. The media mocked Ronald Reagan too. But the American people listened to Reagan and I hope millions of Americans were listening to Senator Cruz, intrigued by his willingness to fight the good fight.

Sukkot in Israel in the News

Sukkot Reminds Us Where Our Strength Comes From: Chief Military Rabbi

"For seven days a year, we leave our permanent homes and live in temporary ones. We take a break from our routines and move into the Sukkah," the Chief Rabbi of the IDF, Brig. Gen. Rafi Peretz, wrote to IDF soldiers in his Sukkot message. Thousands of IDF soldiers - from the southern regions' Givati Brigade to the northern Golani Brigade - will be doing just that, spending the holiday on base and celebrating in sukkahs built especially for the holiday.

The IDF's success in battle and in protecting the State of Israel is not just about physical strength, Brig. Gen. Peretz wrote. It's about the mental and spiritual strength of the IDF's soldiers. "The sukkah, a flimsy and temporary structure, shows us that our security is entrusted not only to physical means, but also to the spirit of the People of Israel that has been pulsing in its veins for many generations. We triumph in wars with physical means and thus we shouldn't undervalue them, but we know that without help from above and faith in the justice of our path, we would not succeed in reaching the national achievements that we have reached in our time. Without them we would not be able to overcome the challenges that we will face in the future." (Read more)

Jerusalem March, Then and Now

The annual Jerusalem March has grown with each successive year since it was established in 1955. This year, 60,000 marchers of all denominations, professions and abilities are expected to make the climb.

The annual Jerusalem March took place this week, as it does every Sukkot holiday, with the participation of local and international delegations, soldiers, dancers, street performers, and just plain folks making the pilgrimage along three separate trails. At 3:00 PM, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat led the 2013 Jerusalem March down the streets of downtown Jerusalem. The route started from Sacher Park/Bezalel Street and went down Hillel and King David streets, ending at the First Station car park. The parade featured floats with popular cartoon characters. P.M. Netanyahu to Meet with Obama Next Monday

Netanyahu to Meet With Obama,

Address United Nations Next Week

On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet President Barack Obama at the White House in their first meeting since President Obama's historic trip to Israel in March. The following day, the Prime Minister will address the UN General Assembly in New York. Last year at the UNGA, Prime Minister Netanyahu drew a red line on Iran's nuclear program.

We encourage you to stay tuned to these two events, as Prime Minister Netanyahu reaffirms Israel's commitment to achieving peace with the Palestinians and seeks a solution to halt Iran's military nuclear program.

Stay tuned.

- Yes, as intercessors, let us covenant to "stay tuned" as the Embassy has requested, and to "stay on the wall" for the safety of the Prime Minister of Israel during his time in our country next week. Amen.

- "I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts." (Habakkuk 2:1)

22 Tishrei 5774
Eighth Day of Sukkot

Our Father in Heaven, Rock of Israel and our Redeemer, bless the State of Israel, the first blossoming of our redemption. May it be Your will O God and the God of our forefathers, that you quickly rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem and herald the coming of the righteous Messiah, in our lifetime, Amen.

Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that they shall say no more: 'As the LORD lives, that brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.' But: 'As the LORD liveth, that brought up and that led the seed of the house of Israel of the north country, and from all the countries where I had driven them'; and they shall dwell in their own land. (Jeremiah 23:7-8)
