The Daily Brief

1. BREAKING NEWS: House drops funding for ObamaCare, but OKs money to keep government open - FOX NEWS

The House voted Friday to keep the government open through mid-December but only if Congress strips funding from ObamaCare. The vote was 230 to 189, and largely expected. The Senate, which is in recess until Tuesday, is expected to take up the vote next week. However, it is unlikely it will pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

The House measure would replace ObamaCare with a plan that expands tax breaks for Americans who buy their own insurance, setting the stage for a showdown with Senate Democrats that could push the government toward a partial shutdown at the end of the month.

~Father, we thank You for this move by the House to defund ObamaCare, as public opposition to it appears to be steadily increasing. We ask for wisdom for all who represent us in Congress, that they would do what is best for our country, and in line with the will of the people they represent. We ask that neither side will play politics in the Senate as they consider this measure. We ask for bi-partisan unity concerning this measure, and the discussions regarding a balanced budget to keep the government running, without plunging us deeper into debt. We ask this in Your Name.

-"When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves." (Philippians 2:3)

2. Obama: 'Raising the Debt Ceiling. . .Does Not Increase Our Debt' - CNS News

Raising the debt ceiling doesn't increase the nation's debt, Pres. Obama declared in a speech today. Obama went on to suggest that "the average person" mistakenly thinks that raising the debt ceiling means the U.S. is racking up more debt.

~Lord, we are amazed at this statement by our President. In every instance of the debt ceiling being raised, we have gone further into debt. Whenever there has been an opportunity to go further into debt, this administration has responded by accruing more debt up to that available limit, and come back to ask for more. It needs to stop. If the goal is to bankrupt our nation, then it appears we are on the "fast track" to do that. We ask for wisdom and courage for our two houses of Congress, to "just say no" to opening the door for further spending. Help us to live within our means, not only as individuals and families, but as a nation, as well. Amen.

- "That's also why you pay taxes--so that an orderly way of life can be maintained. Fulfill your obligations as a citizen. Pay your taxes, pay your bills, respect your leaders. Don't run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other. When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along." (Romans 13:7,8)

3. New bipartisan bill protects groups that don't support same-sex marriage - Washington Post

A prominent tea party-backed Republican lawmaker is spearheading a bipartisan proposal that would protect religious institutions and other nonprofit groups that don't recognize same-sex marriages from potential discrimination by the Internal Revenue Service.

~Abba, we thank You for the foresight of this lawmaker to bring a bill to the floor to protect the rights of religious and non-profit groups who do not recognize same-sex marriages. We pray for all those who will consider this legislation, and ask that they would protect the rights of those whose consciences will not allow them to recognize such "marriages", as well as the rights of all citizens of this nation. In Your Name, Amen.

- "When people live so that they please the Lord, even their enemies will make peace with them." (Proverbs 16:7)

4. High School Textbook Rewrites Second Amendment -- Literally - Breitbart

The authors of United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination have taken it upon themselves to change the Constitution of the United States. The high school textbook contains a summary of each Amendment that alters the initial intent in which they were created.

~Father, we are appalled and deeply saddened to hear that the authors of this U.S. History Examination, have chosen to misrepresent our Constitution to their own liking. How do they know that the intent of our Founding Fathers, who framed our Constitution, did not mean what they wrote? It is well documented that our Constitution was written by very intelligent, learned-men, who knew what they were doing. It reminds us of the arrogance of men who endeavor to "edit" God's Word to suit their own ends. We ask, Lord, that You would intervene in this situation, and that the integrity of the original document of our Constitution be preserved and honored, and followed. In Your Name we pray, Amen.

- "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity." (Proverbs 11:2)

5. White House Confirms meeting with Netanyahu - Israel National News

"The president will welcome Israeli prime minister Netanyahu to the White House on Monday, September 30," spokesman Jay Carney said, according to AFP. Carney noted the two leaders would discuss progress on final status negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, as well as Iran, Syria and developments in the Middle East.

~O Lord God of Israel, we come to You on behalf of Your people, Israel. We thank You for Prime Minister Netanyahu, who You have brought to this position for this time in history. We bless him, and ask Your continued blessings and protection to be upon Him. We ask that You would visit our President and instill in him the fear of the Lord. We ask You to fill Netanyahu's mouth with Your Words, and may our President and staff see and know, that You are with him, and backing up what he is saying. Show Yourself strong on behalf of Your people, we pray. We bind up spirits of treachery, deceit, lying and intimidation. We praise You, O God of our salvation, and we do pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for them to receive their Messiah, we pray. Amen.

- "This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and the you shall deal wisely and have good success. Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."(Joshua 1:8,9)

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him." (James 1:12)

Who Stands With Syria's Christians?- World

So quickly the headlines turn from Syria and the Middle East to debt ceiling debates and budget resolutions. Are you really going to be led around by your nose from one story with no legs to another? When the White House goes to war in Syria, it's like another weekend of fantasy football. In Syria war is a durable commodity. Just because America blinked doesn't mean the conflict went away.

Even as Secretary of State John Kerry explained his "unbelievably small" war plan-and President Barack Obama polished his speech derailing that small plan-a new and menacing front opened in Syria's two-and-a-half-year war.

Christians in Syria are increasingly targeted. What's significant about the September confrontation in Maaloula is the rebels hit a protected Christian village, and Mar Sarkis-one of the oldest surviving monasteries and continuously used churches in the world-is a national landmark long treasured by Christian and Muslim Syrians alike.

Beyond the pathos in the current decimation of Christianity in the land of Jesus' birth, here's why the destruction of the church in the Middle East should mobilize us:

- God calls Christians to be everywhere.
- The long-suffering in His church have much to teach the rest of us.
- It should be in the strategic interest of the United States to stand with groups in the Middle East that have refused, with cost, to embrace terrorism.
- Muslims need Christians to be their neighbors.

When it looked as though the United States would go to war with Syria, members of Congress received thousands of calls from their constituents. The calls ran 99 to 1 against action, and higher. Could any of those thousands be mobilized to call on behalf of Syria's Christians? Or to join already organized petition drives (a detailed list is below) and aid campaigns on their behalf? Apart from the political and diplomatic theatrics, won't Christians stand up for Christians?

The Madison Report: House Defunds Obamacare

THE MADISONIAN:

Breaking: The House Votes To Defund Obamacare:

230 to 189

Many of you have probably already seen it, but the United States House of Representatives voted this morning to send a Continuing Resolution (a CR) to the United States Senate that defunds Obamacare by a vote of 230-189. It is a clean CR which means the government will be funded so it can function, but Obamacare will receive no funding. Not one cent. Is this a victory? Yes. Is it THE victory? No.

That comes in the Senate. I could spend time explaining it or just send you over to our friends at the Senate Conservatives Fund where they explain what comes next. Bottom line is that the real vote in the Senate is going to be the one on cloture. We're winning this fight, folks, but we have to stay alert.

For Liberty.

Senate Republicans Must Oppose Cloture to Stop Harry Reid's Plan to Fund Obamacare

(Source: The Senate Conservatives Fund)

"Any Republican who votes for cloture is voting to fund Obamacare."

ALEXANDRIA, VA - Today, the Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) called on Senate Republicans to oppose cloture on Harry Reid's attempt to fund Obamacare with a simple majority.

SCF Executive Director, Matt Hoskins, made the following statement:

"Americans won a major victory today when the House passed legislation to fund the government without funding Obamacare, but now the debate shifts to the Senate where Harry Reid and the Democrats will try to fund Obamacare. The Democrats have a plan to fund Obamacare, but Republicans can stop it if they stick together.

"Harry Reid needs 60 votes to approve his plan to fund Obamacare. If 41 Republicans stand strong and oppose cloture, they can defeat Reid's plan to fund Obamacare. However, if Republicans waffle and vote for cloture, it will grease the skids for Reid's plan to fund Obamacare. It's pretty simple - any Republican who votes for cloture is voting to fund Obamacare.

"This is a critical test for Senate Republicans and especially for Mitch McConnell, the Republican Leader. It's time for Mitch McConnell to show some leadership and deliver the 41 votes needed to defeat cloture on Harry Reid's plan to fund Obamacare. Republicans like to say they are against Obamacare, but now is the time to prove it. Now is when it matters."

[ Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) is an independent, grassroots organization that advocates for conservative policies in Washington and helps elect true conservative leaders to the United States Senate.] Read more here.

- We continue to lift up the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare) before the Throne of Grace, knowing that we worship a just God. We ask that the burden of the Lord now rest upon the Senate, as it has in the House today, and that this bill be stopped at the gate. Let us continue to pray in agreement that this legislative initiative, designed to dismantle every vestige of Obamacare, find success under the Mighty Hand of God. We thank You, Lord, for turning the hearts of "all in authority" as a watercourse, wheresoever You desire, in Jesus' Name, amen.

- "And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him." (Psalm 37:40)

Second Day of Sukkot

May the Almighty grant understanding to Israel's leaders, to make wise decisions as they confront threats from their enemies, and face international pressure to make concessions to their foes. Shine Your countenance upon them and encourage them to stand firm and walk in Your ways as Israel continues to absorb thousands of Jewish immigrants from across the globe.

"For I will take you out from among the nations, and gather you in from all the countries, and will bring you into your own land." (Ezekiel 36:24)

"Mystery, Miracle" Priest and Crash Survivor Reunited Today

"There are so many reasons she should have perished. When you see the pictures from the crash, you say to yourself, 'God is good.'" -Carla Churchill

Last month, BCN reported on the "miraculous" rescue of a car accident victim, and the mysterious priest who pray with her and her rescuers, then seemingly disappeared.

That priest was later revealed as being Rev. Patrick Dowling, a Kilkenny, Ireland native, and a minister at the Jefferson City Diocese in Missouri.

Katie Lentz is the crash survivor who is recovering, and although wasn't expected to live, is "going to walk again," says her mother. (Visit the website Katie's family created to support her recovery: www.roadsidemiracle.com)

Today (Sep 20) is Katie's 20th birthday, and she'll be receiving the wonderful present of meeting the "miracle" priest whose prayer gave her-and those working to set her free from the wreckage of what was her car-the strength and hope to hang on. . .

. . . Although Rev. Dowling already visited Katie in the hospital, it was very brief since her condition was so critical, but now he'll be reunited with Katie at her Illinois home this afternoon, in time for a very special birthday celebration.

"The Bible tells us the steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord," said Katie's mother. "And I believe Father Dowling was at the right place at the right time." (Source: Fox News)
