The Daily Brief

1. a) Frustration Boils Over on Capitol Hill, as Libya Security Officers Sound Off - Fox News

Scathing criticism of the State Department from ex-security officers for the U.S. mission in Libya punctuates an already-tense House hearing about last month's deadly terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.

b) U.S. Security at Benghazi mission called "weak"- Reuters

At a partisan and at times rancorous congressional hearing on events leading to the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya, security officers on Wednesday described uphill bureaucratic battles for resources to protect U.S. personnel and facilities.

At the same hearing, senior State Department officials said that as long as the United States sent diplomats into danger zones such as Benghazi, there would be no fail-safe protection.

Diplomatic security was the centerpiece of the first congressional hearing to examine publicly events leading up to the September 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi which killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

- Father, we must have righteous leaders in America, men and women, backed by their faith in You, who will stand with integrity and strength against the wiles of the enemy. We ask for revelation of all hidden agendas and plans made against our embassies and foreign staff.

-"Some trust in horses and some in chariots, but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God." [Psalm 20:7]

2. Confirmed: Pentagon deploys military forces to Jordan-Syria border - RT News

US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has confirmed that US troops have been dispatched to the Jordan-Syrian border to help bolster the former's military capabilities in case violence escalates in the volatile region.

"We have been working with Jordan for a period of time now - on a number of issues that have developed as a result of what's happening in Syria," Panetta said. He said chief among those issues were the "humanitarian needs" that has developed as a result of the refugee influx into Jordan.

- Lord, we pray for the victims in Syria who have suffered at the hands of Assad. We plead Your Blood over the region, and loose Your Holy Spirit to change lives and lift up the broken and weary.

-"He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and sets others in their places." [Job 34:24]

3. French 'No Russian weapons' on board Syrian plane detained in Turkey- UK Telegraph

Russia is demanding an explanation from Turkey after a Syrian civilian plane en route from Moscow to Damascus with Russian citizens on board was detained by Ankara. The ministry said that Turkish authorities refused to grant Russian diplomatic staff access to 17 Russian citizens on board during the eight hours that the flight was held up because of suspicions the aircraft was carrying military equipment.

- Thank You, Lord, for this watchful move by Turkey. We ask that You move to disrupt the alliances of our enemies and reveal all possible weapons movements within the Middle East.

- "He cast on them the fierceness of His anger" [Psalm 78:49a]

4. Gunmen kill U.S. embassy employee in Yemen- Reuters

Masked gunmen shot dead a Yemeni man on his way to work at the U.S. embassy in Sanaa on Thursday, a security source said, the latest in a wave of assassinations in the Arab state where Washington is battling al Qaeda militants. The attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on a car carrying Qassem Aqlan - who headed an embassy security team - in the center of Yemen's capital, the source told Reuters.

- Father, we ask for Your mercy over the family of this latest victim of violence. We pray for comfort and the revelation of Your Son to them. We also ask that You intervene to stop the senseless violence against American embassy workers and diplomats.

-"He delivers me from my enemies, You also lift me above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man." [Psalm 18:48]

5. Russia Won't Renew Pact on Weapons With U.S. -NY Times

The Russian government said Wednesday that it would not renew a hugely successful 20-year partnership with the United States to safeguard and dismantle nuclear and chemical weapons in the former Soviet Union when the program expires next spring, a potentially grave setback in the already fraying relationship between the former cold war enemies.

- Father, as tensions increase between nations, we ask that You will guard Your people. Of all the situations we have encountered, it is grossly obvious that our current leadership has not only NOT garnered favor, but has actually created an atmosphere of distrust by their actions. We ask for a mighty turn around in that situation.

-"Then they cried out to the Lord in all their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses." [Psalm 107:6]

6. IMF Warns Of European Banks' Asset Sales- Sky News

European banks are in the midst of an emergency fire sale of assets worth more than £8,000 for every single household in the continent, it has emerged.

The warning from the International Monetary Fund came 24 hours after it slashed its growth forecast for Britain's economy by more than any other major developed country.

It said political leaders - especially those in the eurozone - are running out of time to put right the economic problems weighing them down.

In its Global Financial Stability Report, the IMF predicted Europe's biggest banks will need to sell off $2.8 trillion (£1.75trn) of assets in the coming months - some $200bn (£125bn) higher than its estimate in the spring.

- Once again, Lord, we ask for Your hand of stability upon the nations' economies. We pray that men and women of great wisdom arise, and like Eliakim of the Old Testament, be trustworthy before You.

-"The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder - and he will become a glorious throne to his father's house." [Isaiah 22:22-23]

The Daily Jot

The Great Benghazi Lie

The occupant of the Oval Office and all his minions have been caught in the Great Benghazi Lie. It started with a carefully woven story that protesters stormed our Embassy in Libya, killed our Ambassador and three other Americans because they were upset over a film questioning the character of the "Prophet Mohammed." As the truth now comes out, there was no protest, the area outside the embassy was calm until it was attacked by terrorists, probably part of the same al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood groups that the Administration assisted in overthrowing the Libyan government last year. The Administration, including the president, the Secretary of State, the UN Ambassador and others have been lying to us.

The New York Times has been documenting the statements made by Administration officials since the initial attack. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the day after the attack (9/12): "Some have thought to justify this vicious behavior along with the protests that took place at our embassy in Cairo yesterday as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet." White House Press Secretary Jay Carney eight days after the attack (9/19): "Based on the information that we had at the time and have to this day, we do not have evidence that it was premeditated." That very day the director of the National Counterterrorism Center said, "Yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy." He suspected al Qaeda.
14 days after the attack, the president still blamed the embassy killings on the anti-Mohammed video. He told the United Nations: "In every country, there are those who find different religious beliefs threatening; in every culture, those who love freedom for themselves must ask themselves how much they're willing to tolerate freedom for others. That is what we saw play out in the last two weeks, as a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. Now, I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity." He was speaking specifically about the killings in Libya.
While the president says that the US had nothing to do with the video, he and his administration is complicit in lying to the American public about not only how our Ambassador was killed, but why and by whom--even to the fabrication of minute details of protests getting out of hand. The entire news media wrote what this administration said as fact. Now all Americans are finding out the president's story was not remotely true. How much more is a lie? When will people be outraged by these dealings? 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Even so, the news media is barely holding anyone accountable. Deception is widespread. Discernment is needed.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

On the Campaign Trail

On the Campaign Trail:

26 Days Until Election Day
THE TOP 10 SENATE RACES TO WATCH

(Part One)

Arizona - Democrats stand a good chance of pulling an upset in this red state. Polls continue to show physician Richard Carmona in a close race with GOP Rep. Jeff Flake. Carmona, who was surgeon general under George W. Bush, was recruited by Obama to run for the Senate. Flake is a fiscal conservative who has earned a reputation for bucking his party.

Maine - Independent former governor Angus King started this race as the heavy favorite. Neither party put up any big-name opponents against him, and Democrats seemed to be hoping that he would win and caucus with them in the Senate. But negative GOP ads against King have moved Republican GOP Secretary of State Charlie Summers into serious contention.

North Dakota - This one is really close. Former state attorney general Heidi Heitkamp has turned into one of the best Democratic recruits of the year, putting in play a state that was thought to be solidly in the GOP's column. The GOP nominee, freshman Rep. Rick Berg, isn't getting such sterling reviews. Heitkamp's early support for Obamacare has not hurt her much.

Virginia - The shape of this race has changed a little in recent weeks, with polling showing Democrat Timothy M. Kaine jumping to an eight-point lead over former senator George Allen (R). The GOP plan was to attach Kaine to Obama, but with polls showing the president a slight favorite to carry the state, that strategy has paid limited dividends.

Montana - This has been close from the beginning and is expected to stay that way. Sen. Jon Tester (D) and Rep. Denny Rehberg (R) have always been within a few points of each other. Republicans have tried to tie Tester to Obama, while Democrats have attacked Rehberg as a lobbyist and for suing his local fire department after a wildfire damaged his property.

2. Organization That Registers Only Democrat Votes Allowed on Campus With Fake Credentials
Pasco County Schools confirmed to Fox News that volunteers from Organizing For America were given access to as many as a half dozen high school and middle school campuses. "They did register students to vote," spokesman John Mann told Fox News. "We don't know how many children were registered - (but) we have an ongoing investigation."
In addition to voter registration, a former teacher was allowed to deliver Obama speeches to a number of senior high school students. "She got into six classrooms and gave pro-Obama speeches - like way off to the left," said James Mathieu, general counsel for the Pasco County Republican Party. "That got out to parents and parents complained."

Mathieu said that some of the Organizing for America volunteers identified themselves to school officials as being with the local elections office. "These people have used false pretense to get into the high schools and all they're giving us is whitewash and lip service," he said. (Fox News) Read more.

3. Undercover Video: Obama workers enable double-voting across state lines
A new undercover video from James O'Keefe's Project Veritas shows how an Obama for America staffer gives advice to an undercover reporter on how to vote twice in the upcoming election. She even includes a ballot in the process. Obama for America Houston Director Stephanie Caballero is the salaried employee of the Democrat National Committee. The undercover reporter explains that she wants to vote in two states: Texas and Florida. (Freedom Outpost) Read more.

- Father, in Jesus' name we bind every attempt at voter fraud in this election! We bind every attempt to manipulate the votes of our nation's youth. We pray that every illicit attempt to gain votes will be revealed and stopped! May those perpetrating this fraud be held fully accountable under the law. In Jesus' Name, amen!

More Lawsuits against Contraceptive Mandate

More Lawsuits against Contraceptive Mandate

Each week some new employer files a federal lawsuit against Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for violating its constitutional rights by requiring all employers to provide insurance that gives their employees sterilization, contraception and abortion-inducing drugs free of charge, despite the employer's religious convictions against such a practice. The most recent one to file suit is Tyndale House, a Christian publisher. HHS refused to grant Tyndale House a religious exemption because, as a "for profit" business, it is insufficiently religious. John Kennedy, a Roman Catholic and CEO of Autocam, a major manufacturer of precision auto, machine and medical equipment parts, has also filed suit saying the mandate violates the company's "deeply held religious convictions about the dignity of the person."

Meanwhile, President Obama addressing an audience in DC's Virginia suburbs, bragged about the mandate saying, "I don't think a college student in Fairfax or Charlottesville should have to choose between text books or the preventive care that she needs. That's why we passed this law. And I am proud of it. It was the right thing to do. And we are going to keep it." A lawsuit by the largest non-Catholic Christian company yet to sue HHS, Hobby Lobby will proceed October 24th in Oklahoma. The company says it would face $1.3 million in daily fines if it holds to its faith convictions. Meanwhile, a federal judge in St. Louis dismissed a suit by O'Brien Industrial Holdings ruling that the "regulations do not impose a 'substantial burden'" on the company and "do not violate (their) rights." O'Brien will appeal. (FRC Prayer Targets)

IPT Report (Investigative Project on Terrorism):

Treasury Designation Latest of Hamas Challenges

The Treasury Department announced Thursday that it designated two Lebanese-based charities which help fund Hamas.

Al-Waqfiya Al-Ri'aya Al-Usra Al-Filistinya Al-Lubnanya and the Al-Quds International Foundation, both Beirut based, were targeted by the designation, which makes it illegal for people in the United States from doing any business with them. The groups are controlled by Hamas and raise money for relatives of Hamas terrorists and prisoners, along with other projects in the Palestinian territories aimed at boosting Hamas's standing.

Al-Waqfiya is described as "a central component of the Union of Good" in the Treasury announcement. The Union of Good was designated in 2008 and is led by Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an influential Muslim Brotherhood theologian.

"The Treasury Department will continue to work to disrupt Hamas's efforts to radicalize vulnerable communities and undermine regional stability," said Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen. "Today's action represents another step in our effort to ensure that charitable fronts are not used to finance terrorism."

The designation comes amid difficult times for Hamas. A Washington Times column notes that its cause is being lost amid Arab Spring activity, especially the bloody battle for control of Syria. By siding with opposition leaders against dictator Bashar al-Assad, who along with his late father have allowed Hamas to operate out of Damascus, the group has alienated some supporters, including Iran which has financed Hamas for years. Almost 1,600 Pastors Defy IRS: Preach Politics From Pulpit

A record number of pastors this past Sunday defied IRS rules and regulations and preached politics from their pulpits as a way to protest the restrictive guidelines placed on churches.

A total of 1,586 pastors participated in Pulpit Freedom Sunday in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This is the fifth annual event sponsored by Alliance Defending Freedom, a pro-life legal group.

The registered pastors committed to preach sermons that present biblical perspectives on the positions of electoral candidates. In so doing, they exercised their constitutionally protected freedom to engage in religious expression from the pulpit despite an Internal Revenue Service rule known as the Johnson Amendment that activist groups often use to silence churches by threatening their tax-exempt status.
"Pastors should decide what they preach from the pulpit, not the IRS," said Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley. "It's outrageous for pastors and churches to be threatened or punished by the government for applying biblical teachings to all areas of life, including candidates and elections. The question is, 'Who should decide the content of sermons: pastors or the IRS?'"
"No government-recognized status can be conditioned upon the surrender of a constitutionally protected right," Stanley explained. "No one would suggest a pastor give up his church's tax-exempt status if he wants to keep his constitutional protection against illegal search and seizure or cruel and unusual punishment. Likewise, no one should be asking him to give up his church's tax-exempt status to be able to keep his constitutionally protected right to free speech."
Pulpit Freedom Sunday is an event associated with the Pulpit Initiative, a legal effort designed to secure the free speech rights of pastors in the pulpit. Alliance Defending Freedom hopes to eventually go to court to have the Johnson Amendment struck down as unconstitutional for its regulation of sermons, which are protected by the First Amendment.
