The Daily Brief - Wednesday, November 14, 2007

1. Are We Winning The War? - Washington Times and USA Today

No one is declaring victory, but cautious optimists on the U.S.-led war in Iraq suddenly find themselves armed with a growing number of indicators that the fighting has taken a new, more hopeful turn. U.S. military fatalities are down sharply, from 101 in June to 39 in October. Iraqi civilian deaths also were down sharply, from 1,791 in August to 750 in October, according to the Associated Press. Mortar rocket attacks by insurgents in October were the lowest since February 2006, as were the number of "indirect fire" attacks on coalition forces. Despite this optimistic news, Justice Department investigators have reopened an inquiry into the legality of the government's warrantless eavesdropping program.

· Commander of the Heavenly Host, we beseech You to grant favor to our Commander-in-Chief, Congressional members and military leaders who listen to You and ask You for help with the war on terror. We also ask for forgiveness for those who don't. Please continue to provide resources to those who are on the front lines defending our nation and Israel from their enemies. May the truth be known about the war's successes and that they are due to Your intervention!

· "If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success." (Ecclesiastes 10:10 NKJV)

2. GOP Split On Repeal Of Real ID - Washington Times

Congressional Republicans are scrambling to defuse the political time bomb they created in 2005 when they allowed states to issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens -- but a key Republican and author of the Real ID Act says their new bill is unconstitutional. "Driver's licenses are issued by the states, not the federal government. I do not believe it is constitutional for the federal government to tell the states who they can issue driver's licenses to and who they can't issue driver's licenses to," said Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., the Wisconsin Republican who wrote the 2005 law and its provision allowing states the option of giving licenses to illegal aliens.

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a first-term Democrat, put the issue on the national stage six weeks ago when he said New York would become the ninth state to issue licenses to illegal aliens. Today Mr. Spitzer will drop that plan, the Associated Press reported last night, and some Democratic lawmakers predicted other states that issue licenses to illegal aliens will follow suit.

· Our Father, please protect us from expedient elected officials who seek to be re-elected by using questionable means to "get-out-the-vote" for themselves. May party and self-serving interests be put on the back burner in the war on terror, and may Your Wisdom be sought to determine who deserves driver's licenses. May America be saved from fools.

· "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." (Ephesians 5: 15-16 NKJV)

3. U.S. Plans New Space Weapons Against China - London Telegraph

The Pentagon is spending billions of dollars on new forms of space warfare to counter the growing risk of missile attack from rogue states and the "satellite killer" capabilities of China. Congress has allocated funds to develop futuristic weapons and intelligence systems that operate beyond the Earth's atmosphere as America looks past Iraq and Afghanistan to the wars of the future.

The most ambitious project in a new $459 billion (£221.5 billion) defense spending Bill is the Falcon, a reusable "hypersonic vehicle" that could fly at six times the speed of sound and deliver 12,000 lb. of bombs anywhere in the world within minutes.

· Thank You, Lord for giving former President Reagan wisdom to develop the SDI Defense Initiative, or the "Star Wars" defense program more than 25 years ago today. It proved the foundation for this new technology, May our nation's leaders and scientist involved in these defense projects continue to depend upon You for vision, and we ask that You will receive all of the glory for these incredible military advances!

· "But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill." (Psalm 3: 3-4 NKJV)

4. Iran Gives International Atomic Energy Agency Blueprints Linked To Possible Nuclear Weapons Program - Fox News

After years of stonewalling, Iran has given the U.N. nuclear agency blueprints showing how to mold uranium metal into the shape of warheads, diplomats said Tuesday, in an apparent concession meant to stave off the threat of new U.N. sanctions.

· Maybe Iran needs more sanctions, both economically and financially, to bring them to their knees and senses; to quit building illegal nuclear weaponry. Thank You, Lord, for letting us know that they have been molding uranium metal warhead shapes. May You reveal who has given them this capability so they may be stopped, too, before annihilating America, Israel and her allies.

· "He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The Lord preserves all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy." (Psalm 145: 19-20 NKJV)

5. Putin Gives Sign That He'll Retain Power While Huge Oil Spill Could Pollute Black Sea For 15 Years - Associated Press and London Times

President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that a big win for the dominant pro-Kremlin party in December parliamentary elections would give him the "moral right" to maintain influence in Russia after he steps down next year. Meanwhile, the Black Sea is facing its most serious ecological threat for years after a fierce storm sank five ships, including an oil tanker and bulk carriers laden with sulfur. Fuel barges were also washed ashore by the heavy seas and more than 20 sailors were swept from their vessels. At least 2,000 tons of fuel oil spilled into the water when a tanker broke up in the Kerch Strait, which links the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, between Russia and Ukraine.

· The quest for total power, arrogance and greed. These are human traits that the Lord cannot work with because those who possess them are not pliable or amenable to God's will in their lives. Mr. Putin has been emboldened with Russia's oil success to act as if he were central to his country's goal of being a global super power. But, he's only fooling himself as God can allow oil and sulfur spills, and oil wells to run dry to humble the proud. May Mr. Putin be saved unto Jesus along with his family and Russia. May he be used as an international example of how God changes hearts! And, may those affected by this disaster be restored!

· "A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps." (Proverbs 16: 9 NKJV)

6. $4 Gas Closer Than You Think - ABC News and Associated Press

Oil prices fell more than $1 a barrel in Asia today after reports the oil exporter group OPEC would discuss increasing its output at its upcoming meeting. After a run-up in oil prices last week, however, U.S. consumers are bracing for more soaring gas prices when the government releases its latest numbers this week.

The almost doubled increased price for fuel hasn't only affected consumer gas bills, it also has found its way into other aspects of life, like vacations, eating out, groceries and even how many times a family attends church and related activities per week.

Increased fuel bills reflect the increased value of the oil business. Oil prices have surged to near $100 per barrel recently amid concerns about supplies, a weak U.S. dollar and the OPEC's apparent reluctance to pump more crude into the market, according to The Associated Press.

· Heavenly Father, it is frustrating to think of the oil treasures that You have given this nation and how they have been squandered in the name of ecology and political correctness. Please free up these resources for America to use to stop this stranglehold on our economy and to relieve the oppression of those we depend upon for oil--nations who have attacked us but readily accept our monies for their prosperity. May those countries come to see the Light of Your Son, the Messiah and great Morning Star.

· "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star." (Revelation 22: 12 & 16 NKJV)

7. STD Rates Hit Record Highs In U.S. - CBN News

More than 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year - the most ever reported for a sexually transmitted disease, federal health officials said Tuesday. Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they think better and more intensive screening accounts for much of the increase, but added that chlamydia was not the only sexually transmitted disease on the rise.

Gonorrhea rates are jumping again after hitting a record low, and an increasing number of cases are caused by a "superbug" version resistant to common antibiotics. Syphilis is rising, too. The rate of congenital syphilis - which can deform or kill babies - rose for the first time in 15 years.

· Dearest Abba, we cry out to You for no more promotion of immorality by our government, media, schools and peers. We cry out for abstinence to be taught as the only morally and physically acceptable form of birth control and that it will be seen as the eradication of sexual diseases! We ask You to spare our youth and ourselves from this curse upon our land.

· "Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, 'I have no pleasure in them.'" (Ecclesiastes 12: 1 NKJV)

The Daily Brief - Tuesday, November 13, 2007

"For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." (John 3:17)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Georgia Governor Prays for Rain Amid Drought - Associated Press

Today, Georgia's Governor Sonny Perdue, his wife, Mary; the Lt. Governor, and Georgia's citizens, called on a higher power, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for rain. Governor Perdue stepped up to a podium outside the state Capitol on Tuesday and led a solemn crowd of several hundred people in a prayer for rain on his drought-stricken state. Today, 81% of respondents voted "yes" in an America On Line Poll when asked: "Do you think prayers can help ease the drought?" As Georgia descends deeper into drought, Gov. Perdue has ordered water restrictions, launched a legal battle and asked President Bush for help.

· To the One True God who provided rain when Elijah prayed for an end to their drought, we humbly ask You to show Your mighty power and provide rain to the State of Georgia whose leadership and citizens have humbled themselves to Your authority and have obediently prayed for relief. May many be saved to Jesus, including the protestors, when You respond to their outcry for much needed rain · "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV)

2. Benazir Bhutto Placed Under House Arrest Again Ahead of Planned Protest, Pakistani Nuclear Security Questioned - Fox News and MSNBC

Authorities mounted a massive security operation Tuesday to hold opposition leader Benazir Bhutto under house arrest for the second time in five days and prevent her from staging a 185-mile protest march against emergency rule. Security issues were raised when the United States learned in 2001, that Pakistani scientists had shared nuclear secrets with members of al-Qaeda. An alarmed Bush administration responded with tens of millions of dollars worth of equipment such as intrusion detectors and ID systems to safeguard Pakistan's nuclear weapons.

· Dear Lord, we pray for Your Peace in Pakistan, that the unrest will be settled, and that the person You want as leader will be established as their leader. Give Pakistan a leader after Your own heart, one who will help Israel and our nation defend against terrorism! May Mrs. Bhutto and President Musharaf, their families, followers and Pakistanis be saved and come to know Your Son as their Savior. · " For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; indeed, you will look carefully for his place, but it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace." (Psalms 37:10 & 11)

3. Clash In Iraq Kills 18 al-Qaida Members - Associated Press

Former insurgents who turned against al-Qaida in Iraq launched an attack against the terror group and killed 18 of its members, asking the U.S. military to stay away while the battle raged, an ex-insurgent leader and Iraqi police said Saturday.

· Thank You, Lord that You are raising up Iraqi people to protect their own country. Let them never forget all that the U.S. has done to give them freedom. Keep them loyal to America and the troops. Let the gospel be rooted in Iraq! · "I went down to the moorings of the mountains; the earth with its bars closed behind me forever; yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God." (Jonah 2:6)

4. World Should Ban Human Cloning, Except Medical: U.N. - ABC News and London Independent

The world should quickly ban cloning of humans and only allow exceptions for strictly controlled research to help treat diseases such as diabetes or Alzheimer's, a U.N. study said on Sunday. And, what researchers consider a giant step for cloning, a technical breakthrough has enabled scientists to create for the first time dozens of cloned embryos from adult monkeys, raising the prospect of the same procedure being used to make cloned human embryos.

· Gracious Lord, we pray that You will control this debate of who has the right to create life, to clone, and to make ethical decisions about life and when it begins! We pray that all over the world, people will commit to building a society that respects the dignity of each person, from the moment of conception to natural death; a society that places human life and dignity at the center of human rights. · "Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloodthirsty men. For look, they lie in wait for my life; the mighty gather against me, not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord." (Psalms 59:2)

5. U.S. Justices Could Decide Constitutionality Of Gun Ownership - International Herald Tribune

Both sides in a closely watched legal battle over the District of Columbia's strict gun-control law are urging the Supreme Court to hear the case. If the justices agree - a step they may announce as early as Tuesday - the Roberts court is very likely to find itself back on the front lines of the culture wars with an intensity unmatched even by the cases on abortion and race that defined the court's last term.

· Heavenly Father, the founders of our country were led by You to guarantee the freedom of our citizens to have the right to bear arms because of the abuse by tyrants. We pray that the Supreme Court will be led by You to recognize this right of gun ownership for our citizens. · " Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; shepherd them also, and bear them up forever." (Psalms 28:9)

6. Christians Around The World Pray For "Persecuted Church" - BosNewsLife News Center

Christians around the world, across all denominations, prayed this Sunday for about 200 million Christians persecuted for their faith, during the "International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church." The defeat of false religions, including Islam and the restoration of former Muslims were other prayer focuses for this international prayer event that organizers say has grown into one of the largest global prayer events since its 1986 inception.

· Father God, let us never forget the persecuted church here in America and throughout Your international Body of Christ. As Your Word says, when one part of the Body is injured, we all are injured. Bless all of us and keep us safe from the attacks of the evil one. May Your church grow by granting us Your favor through inreased open doors of opportunity for Your church to thrive! · " And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it." (1 Corinthians 12:26)

This Week on Capitol Hill

This Week on Capitol Hill

In the House:

The House gets to one of the many mortgage bills sifting through Congress - all part of an effort to respond to the nation's still jittery credit market. HR 3915 would set new lending standards for mortgage brokers and backers, requiring - for one - that brokers make sure families can cover future payments on "adjustable rate" mortgages (the kind where payments tend to spike up).

After a cease-fire in October, House members bring the Iraq debate back front and center, attaching a resolution to a $50 billion war spending bill that would require soldiers start coming home in two months, with all combat troops stateside by December '08. The measure also tackles torture, outlawing "waterboarding" and generally requiring the CIA stick to the military's interrogation rules. Like the many similar bills passed in the House earlier this year, it is not expected to get very far.

In The Senate:

The Senate sticks to its farm bill, which made little headway last week. A five year $288 billion grab bag of agricultural subsidies, food stamps and conservation programs, the farm bill is simply up for its occasional renewal. To the dismay of fiscal conservatives, though, the new farm bill looks a lot like the old farm bill, but some senators will try to whittle down its size by capping subsidies at $250,000 per farm.

In Both Chambers:

Congress and the president may enter full-bore budget mode, with the House planning an attempt to override Bush's veto of the $151 billion Labor-Health- Education spending bill. Congress may also pass the prez a $51 billion Transportation-Housing bill for a second veto take-down.

Finally, both chambers also plan to okay a final Head Start reauthorization bill.

America In Submission To Islam

America In Submission To Islam -
The Obvious Impact of Dhimmitude

The Saudi Arabian oil minister said there will be no discussion of increased oil production by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries at their upcoming meeting, meaning that OPEC will stand by and watch record oil prices drain the pocketbooks of American industry and citizens. Increased oil production by OPEC would bring relief to oil prices, which, in turn, would bring gasoline prices down. Instead, a 20-30 cent per gallon increase in gas prices can now be expected at pumps across the United States. This means that not only will prices go up at gas stations, but also the costs of goods transported, produced, and sold with the help of oil products will also rise substantially. Record oil prices may be a reflection of an overall strategy of Islam to bring the United States into submission during jihad.

Americans must understand that they are at war with Islam. This is a Jihad-a holy war. And no matter how much it is sold in the news media that Saudi Arabia is an ally with the United States, Americans must realize that Saudi Arabia is home to the most radical Islamic sect in the world- Wahhabism. Wahhabism is the fundamental interpretation of the Koran and it was the founding creed of Saudi Arabia. Wahhabism is the form of Islam that is practiced in other oil producing states such as Qatar and Kuwait, among others. While Osama bin Ladin does not necessarily practice Wahhabism, it has been revived worldwide as representative of Jihad.

Dhimmitude is the Islamic system of governing populations conquered by jihad wars, encompassing all of the demographic, ethnic, and religious aspects of the political system. The word "dhimmitude" as a historical concept, was coined in 1983 to describe the legal and social conditions of Jews and Christians subjected to Islamic rule. Dhimmi was the name applied by the Arab-Muslim conquerors of indigenous non-Muslim populations who surrendered by a treaty, called a dhimma, to Muslim domination. All who are in submission to Islam are subject to Sharia law-the radical law of Islam.

Contemporary Islamists believe through dhimmi that when they have been given authority over something, that all of which they have been given is subject to them. For example, Islam receives permission to have a mosque in a town, then the entire town is under Islamic authority. If they have been given control over oil, then those who use the oil are subject to them. There is a program by Islam to convert kids in public schools. Its called Dawa-also known as an invitation to join Islam. America is being attacked by Islamic jihad, and we must wake up and understand the full ramifications of this war against every American-man, woman and child. Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that no man deceive you." Islam is deception.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia arrived Monday in Rome for an audience with Pope Benedict XVI, the first between a Saudi monarch and a leader of the Roman Catholic Church. . . The Vatican said the talks in September between al- Faisal and the pope centered on "defence of religious and moral values, the Middle East conflict, the political and religious situation in Saudi Arabia and the importance of inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogue." A Vatican source told AFP the same topics would be on the agenda between the king and the pope when they meet Tuesday.

· Lord we pray You will use this meeting to release the Christians of Saudi Arabia from governmental control and persecution. May Your Holy Spirit have free reign to blow over the Arab world to change hearts. We pray for Your protection over Pope Benedict from any attacks both spiritually and physically.

RANGEL'S UNEVEN TAX BILL

House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel secured his panel's approval yesterday of a tax bill that will keep 23 million taxpayers from being hit with the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and that expands the child tax credit for parents at the lower end of the income scale. J. D. Foster, Ph. D., of the Heritage Foundation has called the bill, the Temporary Tax Relief Act of 2007, a measure with "some roses and some thorns." The thorns include overall tax hikes that could result in the federal government extracting and spending another half-trillion dollars from the economy over the next 10 years. The roses include another single-year "patch" of the AMT, yet another federal tax hike that had unintended consequences.

Aimed at ensuring that a small number of the nation's highest-income households did not avoid tax liability by use of tax deductions, the Hydra-headed AMT has grown, mostly due to inflation effects, to deny deductions, including charitable gifts and child tax relief, to millions of families. The Rangel bill's expansion of the child tax credit would be particularly positive if it signals a determination to extend and expand the credit for all families in 2011, when it will be sharply reduced if Congress fails to act. So far Hill Democrats have been coy on that subject, oftentimes a signal to families to guard their piggybanks. (Family Research Council)

· Rep. Rangel (D-NY)'s tax bill seems to have two sides: one that increases taxes and one that provides tax relief for many families. Pray that this bill is not a case of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing. Pray for openness and honesty and integrity in the writing of bills dealing with taxes so that no family nor person is penalized for charitable gifts nor marriage or a thousand other reasons that can be hidden in the fine print. "Coyness" is not the proper attitude for any political party.

· "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." (Matthew 22:21)

Teen Pregnancy Rates Plummet in D.C.
President and Mrs. Bush Have Been Strong Supporters of Abstinence Education

Despite claims that abstinence education is a waste of taxpayer dollars, a new report suggests that the nation's capital--where several such programs thrive-- is living proof of its effectiveness. In the most dramatic decline yet, city officials have announced that D.C.'s teen pregnancy and birth rates have dropped to unprecedented lows. In an area that boasts some of the nation's most diverse populations, the message of delaying sexual activity has cut across cultural lines and succeeded in slashing teen pregnancies and births by more than half since the late 1990s. For a city whose teenage (15-19) pregnancy rate in 1996 was 164.5 per 1,000, the current contrast is stark. Research shows that the region's pregnancy rate now stands at 64.4 per 1,000--a 100 point drop.

Although many are quick to credit contraception, they fail to see the importance of the District's most famous occupants. For seven years the President and Mrs. Bush have stressed risk avoidance over risk reduction, and it's no accident that their commitment is finally bearing statistical fruit. Contrary to a recent article by columnist George Will, the same is true of the commander-in-chief's influence in the war on the unborn. In "Abortion's 'So-What' Factor," Will argues that a future president's position on life is all but irrelevant to the ongoing abortion debate. Convinced that not even pro-life replacements on the Supreme Court would affect Roe v. Wade, Will writes, "But suppose [they] did. Again, so what? All it would do is restore abortion as a practice subject to state regulation. But regarding abortion itself, what a candidate thinks about [it] is not especially important." I beg to differ. The President's principles dictate his policy--and that policy can determine progress on everything from marriage to the unborn. With abortion, as with adolescent sex, it matters who sits in the Oval Office and every other place of public trust.

The Daily Brief - Wednesday, November 7, 2007

"Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand!" (Matthew 3:2)

Today's Daily Brief

1. U.S. Fifth Fleet In Gulf Exercise For Possible War In Iran - World Tribune

The U.S. Navy launched a series of exercises in the Gulf to enhance skills required in any war with Iran which, according to British press reports, could occur in early 2008. The U.S. Fifth Fleet has been operating two strike groups in the Gulf. The USS Enterprise and USS Kearsarge have also been training in the region.

· Oh Lord, only You know if America will wage war against Iran. Please rule over this potentially explosive situation. May our warships not anger the Iranian government into making hasty decisions about attacking our navy, soldiers or our country. Only YOU know if they have nuclear armament capabilities. Please save Your beloved Israel and her ally, America. Thank You for listening and caring about us.

· "Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war." (Revelation 19: 11 NKJV)

2. Iran's Top Dissident Cleric Calls For US Talks - Ynet News

Iran's government should hold direct talks with the United States to avoid possible military action against the Islamic Republic, the country's top dissident cleric, said in a speech.

Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, an architect of the Islamic revolution, was among Iranian leaders who endorsed the 444-day occupation of the US embassy shortly after Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, when 52 Americans were taken hostage. The event led Washington to break diplomatic ties, which Montazeri said should now be restored.

· My how times have changed from 1979, and how God's Truth is being revealed to those who have opposed Him over the years. We pray for the salvation of Grand Ayatollah Montazeri and for those in the Iranian leadership and government. May all be saved alive for Your glory, and may the waves of Your radiant salvation spill out and over into the rest of the Middle East, including Israel!

· "But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive." (Genesis 50: 20 NKJV)

3. Foreclosure Wave Sweeps America - BBC

A wave of foreclosures and evictions is about to sweep the United States in the wake of the sub-prime mortgage lending crisis. This could destabilise the US housing market and may also lead to further turmoil in financial institutions, who collectively own $1 trillion worth of sub-prime debt. This could have a worldwide effect as some of the subprime mortgage debt was bundled with good mortgages and sold off to international interests.

· May the God of every good and perfect thing that comes down from the Father of heavenly lights keep this potential disaster in His perfect hands. May those who brought about this economic disaster to America be judged for their greed and may those who in good faith took out mortgages which are now in default, and those who bought these mortgages in good faith, be restored. May Your gift of avoiding worldwide economic calamity happen for Your glory, Lord!

· "Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning." (James 1: 16-17 NKJV)

4. U.S. Senate Probes Televangelists' Finances - CBS News

Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct. The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six - Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar - also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University. According to Grassley's office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles.

· Dear Lord, we don't know if this is the beginning of persecution of ministries in America or if this investigation is warranted. But, we do know that we can ask You to have Your Holy Spirit intercede for the needs of Your Church here on earth. Please reveal the truth about this investigation and the motives of Senator Grassley. As You have taught us, in all things, give thanks!

· "In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (1Thessalonians 5: 18 NKJV)

5. Full Senate to Vote on Mukasey Nomination "Before Thanksgiving" - AP

The Judiciary Committee advanced Attorney General designate Michael Mukasey's nomination to the Senate floor Tuesday, virtually ensuring confirmation for a former judge ensnarled in bitter controversy over terrorism-era prisoner interrogations. Support for Mukasey from Senators Schumer and Feinstein virtually assured the former federal judge the majority vote he needed to be favorably recommended by the 19-member committee. He was expected to win confirmation handily, and the vote is likely before Thanksgiving. (AP) · Offer praise for the recent breakthrough when Senators Feinstein and Schumer decided to support Michael Mukasey's nomination to serve as Attorney General. That was a direct answer to prayer! Continue to press in, until this nomination has been approved by the full Senate.

· "The effectual, fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)

6. Bush to Musharraf: Take Off the Army Uniform - Fox News

President Bush tells Pakistani President Musharraf that he must hold elections; give up post as head of army.

· Continue in watchful prayer over this potentially volatile situation. May our God grant His wisdom to President Bush and his advisors as they attempt to respond in the center of His will to the growing crisis in Pakistan. · "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

7. President And Mrs. Bush Host French President Nicolas Sarkozy - AP

French President Nicolas Sarkozy opened a new, cozier chapter in U.S.-French relations, saying he came to Washington with a simple message: "I wish to reconquer the heart of America in a lasting fashion. I also came to say that one can be a friend of America, and yet win elections in France," Sarkozy joked. Iran and the Middle East peace efforts were likely to dominate Sarkozy's discussions with Bush as the two countries look to build on their warmer relations to look for ways to improve policy coordination.

· Offer great praise for this new, much-improved season in French-American relations! This, too, is another answer to prayer. Ask our Lord to continue to guide these two leaders, President Bush and President Sarkozy, in ways to become aligned with an agenda that will promote the freedoms of peace-loving peoples around the world.

· "To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose unto the heavens . . . " (Eccl. 3:1)

8. Pat Robertson Endorses Rudy Giuliani;
Senator Brownback Endorses Senator McCain
- AP

Evangelical Christian leader Pat Robertson on Wednesday endorsed former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has struggled to bridge with conservatives some of his socially moderate policy positions on abortion and gay rights.

· During this increasingly strange political year, pray the Lord's prayer DAILY over this election!.

· "Thy Kingdom come; THY WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven . . . deliver us from evil." Amen. (Matthew 6:10, 13)

Rabbis Warn President Bush

Rabbis warn Bush: Annapolis will bring destruction to US

Group of right-wing rabbis writes open letter to US president demanding he cancel Annapolis summit or risk provoking 'wrath of the almighty.' Rabbis assert Katrina disaster a result of America's support of 2005 disengagement, say California fires a warning

A fringe group of prominent ultranationalist rabbis in Israel issued a harshly-worded letter to United States President George W. Bush earlier this week, warning him that the upcoming Annapolis peace conference would bring destruction upon America. The rabbis evoked their previous prediction in 2005, when they published an open letter to Bush in the New York Times, demanding the US rescind its support of the disengagement plan.

"We wrote to President Bush, a man who believes in the Bible, to warn him against the terrible danger to which he is exposing his country by hosting such a conference," said Rabbi Meir Druckman, one of signatories to the letter. "The land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel. God punishes anyone who coerces Israel to give up its land," he said. "There is no doubt the New Orleans flood from the Katrina hurricane was God's punishment for evicting the settlements," said Druckman, "with hundreds of thousands left homeless, hundreds killed or wounded and billions of dollars sent down the drain - can we really ignore God's hand collecting an eye for an eye?"

The disengagement from Gaza and the northern West Bank was completed August 23rd, 2005 - which was also the date Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas.

"Despite those consequences, yet again we find ourselves facing an initiative to expel Jews from Judea and Samaria and cede their cities to terror organizations. And once again the patrons of the event are President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. "This time the Almighty is warning the US in advance: if the plague of water was not enough now he shall send flames. While hundreds of thousands of families have already fled the terrible fires in California, and we ask you, will you really forge ahead with this malevolent plan?" added Druckman.

The rabbis urged Bush's administration to back down from the current direction of the peace process, saying that not an inch of Israeli land should be ceded. "Be merciful to yourselves and the beloved America and its citizens. Lay down the hand you have raised against the Creator in war. Help the people of Israel fight without compromise against the terrorists who rise against it, and then, with a pure heart, you will truly be able to pray: May God bless America," the rabbis said.

The letter was authored by SOS Israel, a . . . movement which earlier this year distributed citations to IDF soldiers who disobeyed orders and refused to take part in the disengagement. Among the rabbis who signed the letter are several leading religious figures, including Rabbis Dov Wolfa, Yekutiel Rap, Gedalia Axelrod as well as the chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba and Hebron, Dov Lior and the son of former Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Yaakov Yosef. (Ynet; AFP)

· El Shaddai, God Almighty, we thank you for this warning once again to our president to stop any pressure on Israel to give up land. You alone, O Lord, know what the future holds for each nation. Your saints, O Lord, in the USA pray that You will move on the hand and mind of President Bush to withdraw any plans to hold any conference in the boundaries of the United States that impinge on the land of Israel. Lord, our desire is to support your land and her peoples. Help us, Lord, to hold back the forces of evil that threaten to destroy not only Israel but also the United States.

· "He exalteth the horn of His people, the praise of His saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto Him. Praise ye the Lord." (Psalm 148:14)

Rice, Abbas Build a New Terrorist State

Rice And Abbas Building A New Terrorist State

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been in Ramallah ginning up support for her so-called Peace Summit to be held in Annapolis, Md. sometime before the end of the year, but the more Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas talks, the further away any peace solution looks. Abbas opened his remarks with Rice by demanding three things be accomplished before the Annapolis talks: First, that Israel must withdraw from the West Bank and freeze any settlement activity; Second, the giving up of Jerusalem by Israel; and Third, the ending of Israeli hostilities against Palestinians in Gaza.

Essentially ignoring these one-sided and arrogant demands, Rice responded with the typical diplomatic drivel that has characterized the Bush Administration's naivety regarding a Palestinian state. Rice said, "As I've said many times, the Palestinian people have waited a long time for the dignity that will come with an independent state, and the Israeli people have waited a long time for a peaceful neighbor that can help to provide real security. And I believe that those two neighbors living side by side would make a very big difference in the very nature of the Middle East itself, a region that has too long been torn by strife and by turmoil and by deprivation."

Rice repeated that the goal of the Annapolis talks will be to create a Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel before the end of the Bush Administration's term in office. Abbas agreed with the time frame, but his concept of a Palestinian state is slightly different than that of Rice and the Bush Administration. Abbas told reporters, "And I would like to add we are very serious in seizing this opportunity in order to reach this historical peace that would lead to the creation of an independent Palestinian state with its capital East Jerusalem, that would live alongside the state of Israel."

Abbas is saying that he supports a historical peace that would allow the creation of a Palestinian state that would live alongside Israel. That is not the same as the Bush Administration's goal of a Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel. The quintessential example of just how the Palestinian state would operate is Gaza, where Israel left its settlements and turned it over to Palestinian rule. It has become a staging ground for terrorist activity against Israel with an estimated $20 million per month in weapons smuggled from Egypt to Palestinian terrorists. Jeremiah 8:15 says, "We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of deliverance, and behold, trouble." These are the wages of appeasement with Islam.

The Daily Brief - Tuesday, November 6, 2007

"Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand!" (Matthew 3:2)

Today's Daily Brief

1. Economy defies ominous road signs - Washington Times

The economy kept powering ahead last month despite record-high oil prices and worries about the solvency of banks on Wall Street, generating an unexpectedly strong 166,000 jobs in services from retirement homes to restaurants.

· Thank You Lord for Your provisions. Without You, we cannot exist. Because of You, we shall succeed. Hallelujah! AMEN!

· The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. (Psalms 145:18, 19)

2. California wildfires May Return This Week - Ventura County Star

Firefighters are bracing for another windy week just as they finish putting out the last of 23 wildfires that started two weeks ago in Southern California, fanned by gale-force Santa Ana winds. The winds predicted to arrive today (11/2) and continue through Wednesday won't compare to the violent gusts that drove fires across more than 440,000 acres from Santa Barbara to San Diego. But firefighters are concerned any significant winds could stir up smoldering embers and create prime conditions for new flare-ups to spread rapidly around the drought-parched region. The expected low moisture levels, combined with powerful gusts, make it easy for fires to start and spread quickly.

· Lord, You are Lord of lords and King of kings. And even the winds submit to You. We pray the peace of the Lord upon this region. And we pray quick restoration of all that was devastated. We pray that You will get the glory.

· For behold, He who forms mountains, and creates the wind; Who declares to man what his thought is, and makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth -- The Lord God of hosts is His name. (Amos 4:13)

3. Pakistani Police Prevent Lawyer Protests - Washington Post

Hundreds of police firing tear gas and swinging batons clashed with lawyers Monday as security forces across Pakistan blockaded courts to prevent protests against President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's declaration of a state of emergency.

· We pray the peace of the Lord upon Pakistan and all the region. We pray that calm heads will prevail in this situation. Give President Musharraf Your wisdom about what he needs to do to bring peace back in his country.

· Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah! Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the Lord. (Psalms 4:4, 5)

4. Baghdad residents returning as violence drops - MSNBC

In a dramatic turnaround, more than 3,000 Iraqi families driven out of their Baghdad neighborhoods have returned to their homes in the past three months as sectarian violence has dropped, the government said Saturday.

· We thank You, Lord, as Baghdad neighborhoods are getting more secure. Keep the Iraqis protecting themselves. Keep them loyal to the U.S. and the troops. And greatly increase the gospel in Iraq and keep Christians safe.

· You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalms 4:7, 8)

5. Chinese military boosts hacking - Washington Times

Senior military commanders at the U.S. Pacific Command here said China's recent test of an anti-satellite weapon and increased computer-hacking activities prompted increased defenses for U.S. forces in the region and in space.

· We pray that You will confound the plans of our enemies so that they will not be able to succeed against us. We praise You, for You alone are our Protector and Provider. Hallelujah! AMEN!

· But You have saved us from our enemies, And have put to shame those who hated us. In God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever. Selah! (Psalms 44:7, 8)

1. Palestinian state at any price: Rice sweetly lays down the law to Olmert - Israel Insider

Rice, speaking at the Remarks at the Saban Forum Dinner, named after the Israeli-born, Hollywood resident creator of Mutant Ninja Turtles, warned that Israel had to help out Mahmoud Abbas by giving him a State, or be blamed for what would follow: "if we do not act now to show the Palestinians a way forward, others will show them a way forward....My fear is that if Palestinian reformers cannot deliver on the hope of an independent state, then the moderate center could collapse forever and the next generation of Palestinians could become lost souls of unbridled extremism."

2. Al-Qaeda Finds Another Home: Gaza - CBN News

Hamas strongly denies a charge by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that al-Qaeda has entered the Gaza Strip. But video obtained by CBN News reveals evidence to the contrary.

3. Secretary of State Rice: We hope to strike a deal in a year - Jerusalem Post

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice assured the Palestinians on Monday that she aims to wrap up an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal in the remaining year of the Bush administration, offering a target date that falls just short of a formal deadline.

This Week on Capitol Hill

This Week on Capitol Hill

The end-of-the-year congressional cram has arrived - with lawmakers packing in a tight floor schedule of must-pass legislation this week.

The Senate picks through the farm bill, a five year $288b grocery bag of agricultural subsidies, food stamps and conservation programs which is up for its occasional renewal. With a version already passed in the House and at least a week of debate expected in the Senate, fiscal conservatives will do their best to trim down farm supports.

The House votes on an $81b tax bill, a free trade deal with Peru (HR 3688), as well as a bill that would let states pool disaster insurance funds (HR 3355).

Both chambers may dive into a long awaited spending battle with the president this week. With Bush promising to nix their '08 budget for being $22b pricier than his own, Congress is figuring out how to send the president the budget in mini-bulk packages he can't refuse (instead of 12 separate bills). Lawmakers vote on the first veto-resistant pack this week combining the military construction and veterans' bill with the labor-health-human-services- education bill. While it's at it, Congress may also vote this week to override the president's veto of a $23b water works bill, HR 1495, which he also thought cost too much. (Citizen Joe excerpts)

"Reagan 21" Formed in Congress

"Reagan 21" Formed in Congress

Reagan 21 Does (Social) Injustice to the Late President's Legacy

Last week, a new formation of House and Senate Republicans, who call themselves Reagan 21, announced their intent to bring Ronald Reagan's governing philosophy to bear on the 21st century. Promising to fight for "Reagan's principles of... common-sense values," the coalition's statement of priorities left many of the former president's aides and admirers scratching their heads. Members of the caucus say that they are committed to: "integrity, tax reform, budget and spending, entitlement reform, ethics, healthcare, education, immigration, energy, and national security."

Nowhere do these members so much as mention the other policy objectives close to President Reagan's heart, such as the right to life and religious liberty. Even more troubling, many of Reagan 21's members seem to believe that "rejuvenating the Republican party" is possible without renewing the GOP's loyalty to values voters.. . . the new Pew Research Center poll points to the discontent among the nation's Republicans--in large part because of the party's refusal to embrace and fight for social issues. According to the poll, 55% of white evangelicals are so dedicated to social issues that they would consider voting for a conservative third-party candidate if next November's choice is between Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani. Meanwhile, the Reagan 21 website has been taken down for renovations. We hope the biggest overhaul is the restoring of key social values. (Family Research Council)

Lessons from Pakistan

The Prophetic Lesson Of Pakistani Relations

The Bush Administration's investment in Pakistan's military of over $10 billion in the last six years may be in jeopardy as Pakistan's military ruler Pervez Musharraf went against American advice and suspended the Constitution in his country and declared martial law. The move raises a lot of questions over what has been the staunchest Islamic ally of the United States in the war against terrorism. The drums of diplomacy are beating loudly at the U.S. State Department as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is signaling a review of the relationship with Pakistan and strongly urged that Musharraf commit to holding elections as soon as possible.

The state of emergency was declared by Musharraf ostensibly to thwart ongoing terrorist attacks against the Pakistanis, largely due to American support. There is, however, a more disturbing side to the story. While the Musharraf regime cracked down hard on political protesters such as some 1,400 opposition lawyers, there were thousands of Islamic extremists that were protesting undisturbed. DebkaFile security analysts reported that pro-Taliban radicals exchanged 200 Pakistani troops for 28 Taliban prisoners. Even greater is the concern that much of Musharraf's military is infiltrated with al Qaeda and Taliban extremists.

This has placed the United States government in a quandary. Over $10 billion has been spent to build up Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts in the past six years. Yet Musharraf is in the precarious position of having to go soft on some of the terrorists in order to keep his regime in place. Now, as the U.S. threatens to withdraw further aid and demands elections, the more tenuous the relationship between Musharraf and the Bush Administration becomes. The Bush Administration risks pushing the Musharraf regime toward alliances with the very terrorists that billions of dollars of U.S. taxpayers money has been invested to eradicate.

The lesson in all this is that Islam, whether it is friendly today or an enemy today, cannot be trusted. Islam is an entirely different system than that of the West. Islam uses whatever means possible to advance its cause and if that means feigning allegiance with an enemy to gain and maintain power, it will. And if it means betrayal, Islam justifies the duplicity by saying that it should not be dealing with infidels. The Bible is very clear about Islam when it speaks prophetically of the Islamic forefather Ishmael in Genesis 16:12, "And he (Ishmael) will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren." Ten Billion dollars and six years later, the Bush Administration is learning a lesson it could have learned by reading the Bible.
