The Daily Brief:
"Praying for All in Authority"
Wednesday, June 3, 2015

"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draws near." (Luke 21:28)

A Rainbow Over the Supreme Court
This photo of the front of the Supreme Court was taken the night before the hearings on gay marriage:

Monday, April 27, at sunset. Please remain with us in prayer over the pending decision on traditional marriage until the verdict has been rendered.

" . . . from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. . . What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Mark 10: 6,9)

Thank You, Lord, for watching over this Court. In Jesus' name, amen.

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. Reports: IAF jets strike targets in Syrian border area - Ynet News

Lebanese media says attacks took place in area where Hezbollah is fighting rebels aiming to oust Assad; Hezbollah denies attacks. Israel Air Force jets struck targets in the area of the Lebanon-Syrian border in the Bekaa valley, Lebanese media reported Tuesday afternoon.

According to the reports, the two attacks occurred in the mountain region where Hezbollah has been fighting rebels aiming to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Hezbollah officials, in an interview with Al-Manar television and the Lebanese news website Al-Ahad, both affiliated with the organization, denied reports of the attacks in the Bekaa Valley. (Read more)

2. Amid quiet in south, IDF and Hamas intensively prepare for next round - Jerusalem Post

Last summer, the agricultural fields of Eshkol and Sdot Negev regions, near the Gaza border, were battle grounds that were filled with military vehicles, booming artillery guns, non-stop Hamas projectiles and tunnel attacks.

Today, these farming districts are in full, peaceful bloom. Green fields host tractors, not tanks; farmers work their crops, and a pastoral calm has descended. Today, the military is largely out of sight, but not out of mind. Like Hamas nearby, the IDF is very much still here, and both are quietly preparing for the possibility that this fragile quiet shatters.

In Gaza, Hamas's weapons factories are churning out many new rockets. Hamas is digging new tunnels in earnest, its guerrilla-terrorist military wing, Izzadin Kassam, is holding combat training drills under Israel's nose, and its planners are coming up with new ways to try and surprise the IDF. 3. While nobody was looking, the Islamic State launched a new, deadly offensive - Washington Post

Syrian rebels appealed for U.S. airstrikes to counter a new offensive by the Islamic State in the northern province of Aleppo that could reshape the battlefield in Syria.

The surprise assault, launched over the weekend, opened a new front in the multi-pronged war being waged by the extremist group across Iraq and Syria, and it underscored the Islamic State's capacity to catch its enemies off guard.

The push - which came on the heels of the miltants' capture of the Syrian city of Palmyra and the western Iraqi city of Ramadi late last month - took them within reach of the strategically vital town of Azaz on the Turkish border.

The offensive reinforces the impression that the Islamic State is regaining momentum despite more than eight months of U.S. led-airstrikes. (Read more)

4. How Saudi Arabia's 79-year-old King Salman is shaking up the Middle East - Washington Post

When King Salman became Saudi Arabia's ruler this year, few people expected much change. He was 79 and reputedly in ill health. The longtime governor of Riyadh province, Salman was known as a capable administrator and skilled mediator, not as a man who challenged the status quo.

But since taking the throne in January, Salman has shaken up both Saudi Arabia's foreign policy and the succession plans for the royal family.

He has launched a bombing campaign against Shiite rebels in Yemen and increased support for rebels in Syria, signaling a more assertive role for an oil-rich kingdom that traditionally relied on the United States for security. Salman's goal, analysts say, is to guard Sunni Muslims against what he sees as the growing influence of Shiite Iran.

"This is a Saudi moment for the region," said Nawaf al-Obaid, a former adviser to the Saudi royal court, who is now a fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. (Read more)

5. Why Saudi Arabia Is Vulnerable to the Islamic State - USNews.com

The Islamic State (IS) is targeting the Sunni-Shiite sectarian divide in Saudi Arabia to create discord and undermine the royal family's rule. The kingdom is vulnerable to sectarian strife given the family's intimate connections to the Wahhabi Sunni clerical establishment, years of suppression of Shiite Saudis and the war in Yemen.

The first IS terrorist attack on Saudi Shiites took place in November. This month there have been two suicide attacks on Shiite mosques on successive Fridays. The first killed 21 worshippers inside a mosque, the second bomber was stopped outside the mosque before blowing himself up, killing four.

Caliph Ibrahim, or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has publicly called for the downfall of the House of Saud. IS claims it has already established an underground infrastructure in what it calls the "vilayet of the Nejd." Saudi authorities have arrested dozens of Saudis accused of belonging to IS cells. 6. Belgian official says he'd 'kill each and every Jew' - Times of Israel

A Belgian municipal security officer is facing dismissal after saying he would kill "each and every Jew" during a debate on Facebook this past Friday.

"The word Jew itself is dirty. If I were in Israel, frankly, I would do to the Jews what they do with the Palestinians - slaughter each and every one of them," wrote the officer, who was only referred to as Mohamed N. in Belgian media. (Read more)

7. Erdogan: 'Liberate Jerusalem' from the Jews - YnetNews.com

Just one week before upcoming parliamentary elections in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and officials in his Justice and Development Party (AK Party) found a unique way to try and secure a victory at the polls by calling for the "liberation" of Jerusalem.

"Conquest is Mecca, conquest is Saladin, it's to hoist the Islamic flag over Jerusalem again; conquest is the heritage of Mehmed II and conquest means forcing Turkey back on its feet," said Erdoğan in a speech on Saturday in Istanbul before millions who appeared to celebrate 562 years since the Turks captured Constantinople from European Christians. 8. 'Absurd': Anti-Israel group wins key designation from UN panel over US objections - Fox News

A pro-Palestinian group that denies Israel's right to exist and which critics say is a front for Hamas won key status from a UN panel, Israel said Monday, prompting angry diplomats from the Jewish state to lash out at nations that voted for the measure, including several with dubious human rights records.

The UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, a 19-member panel that includes Iran, Pakistan, Sudan, Venezuela, Russia and China, granted "observer" status to the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC). The designation allows the group to acquire official UN badges, full access to UN facilities and to participate in debates in New York, Geneva and Vienna.

"According to this script, one day we may find Hezbollah sitting at the Security Council and ISIS voting at the Human Rights Council," said Israel's ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor. "This is the peak season for the UN's Theatre of the Absurd." (Read more)

The Daily Brief

1. Obama signs bill to resume, overhaul NSA surveillance - Fox News

President Obama Tuesday night signed legislation that passed Congress only hours earlier, restarting -- but also overhauling -- controversial government surveillance programs that went dark over the weekend after lawmakers missed a key deadline. The White House confirmed in a statement that Obama signed the measure Tuesday night. Obama previously said he would sign the bill as soon as it reached his desk. In a 67-32 vote, the Senate approved the so-called USA Freedom Act. The legislation had already won approval in the House.

The vote came after key surveillance programs -- most notably, the National Security Agency's bulk collection of Americans' phone records -- were suspended Sunday after Congress missed the deadline for reauthorization. The passage of the USA Freedom Act means several changes are in store, particularly for that NSA program. Obama and a cross-section of Republican and Democratic lawmakers supported the legislation. (Read more)

- Abba Father, we thank You that the USA Freedom Act passed and that it has judicial, legislative, and independent White House over site to protect our freedoms, but yet keeps us safe. We also thank You that this was done with bi-partisan agreement in both houses of Congress. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. (Galatians 3:15) -Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1)

2. FBI behind mysterious surveillance aircraft over US cities - Chron.com

The FBI is operating a small air force with scores of low-flying planes across the country using video and sometimes cellphone surveillance technology - all hidden behind fictitious companies that are fronts for the government, The Associated Press has learned.

The surveillance equipment is generally used without a judge's approval, and the FBI says the flights are used for specific investigations. The agency says it uses front companies to protect the safety of the pilots and aircraft, shielding their identities from would-be suspects on the ground.

In a recent 30-day period, an AP review found, the FBI flew above more than 30 cities in 11 states across the country, including parts of Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Seattle, and Southern California. (Read more)

- Lord, now that Obama has signed this new bill into law, we ask that measures be taken to rein in this FBI surveillance tactic, unless absolutely needed. in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:14)

3. US insists Kerry's broken leg won't hinder Iran talks - AP

Secretary of State John Kerry returned to Boston Monday for surgery on his broken leg, as U.S. officials insisted his injury would not hinder his participation in nuclear negotiations with Iran. With an end-of-June deadline for an Iranian deal fast approaching, the 71-year-old Kerry left Geneva aboard a U.S. military plane accompanied by his orthopedic surgeon, Dennis Burke, and additional medical personnel. (Read more)

- Lord God, we continue to ask for a complete recovery for the Secretary of State as he rests in his hospital bed in the city of Boston. We repent that our nation continues to take the lead in these "negotiations" with Iran, for doing so is endangering the security of Israel. We ask Your mercy be upon us, O Lord, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9)

4. Lieberman Predicts Congress Will Reject Iran Deal, in 'A Remarkable Statement to the World '- CNSNews.com

Former Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman predicted Monday that Congress will reject the nuclear deal which the administration and its partners in the P5+1 group are negotiating with Iran. The deal is due to be completed on June 30. Assuming an agreement is reached with Tehran, "and assuming it's as bad as I believe it will be," he told a Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD)/Iran Task Force event in Washington, "I believe Congress will reject the agreement."

Such a predicted outcome should not be minimized, said the former four-term senator from Connecticut, who serves as co-chairman of the Iran Task Force. It would be "quite a remarkable statement to the world - that the president has negotiated an agreement which bipartisan majorities in Congress will reject." (Read more)

- Abba Father, we repent as a nation for working so hard to make a nuclear deal with Iran knowing that they are not going to abide by it. Father, we repent of letting our allies down. Forgive us Lord, for our leadership does not know what it is doing. Forgive us for choosing leaders that do not have our best interests at hand. O Lord God, hear our prayers and have mercy on us. Do not allow this nuclear deal to go forward. Only You can stop this deal. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, (Romans 1:18)

5. 4.4 earthquake hits near Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant - Haaretz

Iran says a magnitude-4.4 earthquake has jolted a sparsely populated district some 110 kilometers (70 miles) northwest of Bushehr, home to the Islamic Republic's only operational nuclear power plant. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Iran's official IRNA news agency says the epicenter of the quake was the town of Emam Hassan and that it struck around 4:30 a.m. Monday (0000 GMT, 8 p.m. EDT). The Bushehr nuclear power plant, which went online in 2011 with Russian help, is built to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 8. (Read more)

- Abba Father, You who are in control of all things, we ask that You would remove the Iranian nuclear facilities from being a threat to the USA, Israel, the Middle East nations, and the rest of the world. In His Name, we pray, Amen

- From the Lord of hosts, you will be punished with thunder and earthquake and loud noise,With whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire. (Isaiah 29:6)

6. Russia to begin building Iran's 2nd nuclear power plant this year - Times of Israel

Russia's state atomic energy company on Monday announced it would begin construction of a second nuclear power plant in Iran's Bushehr region later this year, the Islamic republic's semi-state Fars news agency reported. According to the report, the facility will be jointly built by Rosatom and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. Work will start in 2015.

The plant is part of a 2014 deal between Tehran and Moscow to build two power plants in Bushehr in the coming years, in addition to the facility that is already operational. (Read more)

- Abba Father, Iran is building a nuclear arsenal while we are negotiating a nuclear deal. Abba, please open the eyes of our leaders! There is a veil over their eyes and minds that does not allow them to read the writing on the wall. It is very clear that Iran is increasing its abilities to build a nuclear weapon. Lord, we ask that You would remove the veil from our leaders eyes and minds. In Jesus Christ name, we pray. Amen

- And on this mountain He will swallow up the covering which is over all peoples, Even the veil which is stretched over all nations. (Isaiah 25:7)

7. Ambassador Bolton Says Israel Must Strike Iran Soon - Israel National News

On the sidelines of the Israel Day Concert in New York's Central Park on Sunday, former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton gave a rundown of Iran's nuclear program and the impending deal on curbing it, in an exclusive Arutz Sheva interview.

While negotiations between Iran and world powers have reached an interim agreement ahead of a June 30 deadline for a final deal, Bolton predicts that the Iran negotiations are "doomed to failure. I don't think Iran has any intention of giving up its efforts to get deliverable nuclear weapons," said the former ambassador. "Even if a deal is signed sometime in the summer I think the ayatollahs will violate it even before the ink is dry." (Read more)

- O Lord God, the apple of Your eye is under threat of nuclear annihilation at the hands of the Iranians. Lord, we pray for prudence by Israeli leaders. We ask that Israel does not move forward without Your guidance. We bind their ears to the voice of the Holy Spirit that He may guide and direct Israeli leaders. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and appointed them heads over you. (Deuteronomy 1:15) -For by wise guidance you will wage war, And in abundance of counselors there is victory. Proverbs 24:6

8. Wife of American Pastor Jailed In Iran: 'Only A Relationship With God' Brings Peace - CNSNews.com

Naghmeh Abedini, the wife of jailed Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini, gave a resounding testimony of faith before the House Foreign Affairs Committee Tuesday, saying she and her family have been able to endure the pain of his imprisonment in Iran only through "a relationship with God, through the price that Jesus Christ paid on the cross."

Originally a Muslim, Saeed Abedini converted to Christianity in 2000 and worked to help establish house churches in Iran. He moved to the U.S. in 2005, but was arrested in 2012 while visiting family in Iran. He is now serving an eight-year prison term after being convicted of "crimes against national security." Since his arrest, he has been beaten, placed in and out of isolation, transferred to a prison for murderers and infected with lice, his wife told the committee.

"He refuses to deny his Christian faith, and the Iranian government continues to harass him and threaten him with more imprisonment. They've put him in and out of solitary to break him," she said. "When they release Saeed, they want to make sure they release a very sick person," Abedini said. (Read more)

- Abba Father, we thank You for Naghmeh Abedini's faith and her beautiful witness of what a relationship with You means. We pray that You continue to strengthen her and all Americans who are being held in Iranian prisons. Lord, we pray that Saeed will hold strong during this persecution for his Christian faith. In His Name we pray, Amen

- Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17) [o]If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire;[p]and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18) But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up." (Daniel 3-16-18)

9. Obama: Netanyahu's Palestine stance erodes Israel's credibility - Reuters

JERUSALEM - U.S. President Barack Obama said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's terms for diplomacy that might lead to a Palestinian state meant Israel had lost international credibility as a potential peacemaker. Obama also suggested that continued U.S. diplomatic defense for Israel at the United Nations over the Palestine dispute may be reviewed, while reaffirming U.S. support for Israeli security in a conflict-riven Middle East.

Obama said now was the time for a re-evaluation of "how we approach defending Israel on the international stage around the Palestinian issue". He cited pro-Palestinian resolutions at the United Nations that Washington has long blocked in the name of encouraging direct diplomacy between the sides. Asked whether such U.S. vetoes would continue, Obama sounded circumspect. "Well, here's the challenge. If in fact there is no prospect of an actual peace process, if nobody believes there is a peace process, then it becomes more difficult to argue with those who are concerned about settlement construction, those who are concerned about the current situation," he said. "It is more difficult for me to say to them, 'Be patient, wait, because we have a process here.'" (Read more)

- Father God, we cringe to learn that the president is even considering not vetoing a UN Security Council resolution to create a "Palestinian state," should this come to pass. Help us, Lord Jesus! Move on the heart of our own "king" to support an undivided Israel, which is according to Your will and Your Word for that land. We ask this in Your name, Abba, amen and amen.

- "I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land." (Joel 3:2)

10. India heat wave kills 2,330 people as millions wait for rain - CNN

The heat wave gripping India has killed 2,330 people, officials announced on Tuesday, as meteorologists warned that monsoon rains could still be days away. The worst-hit state was Andhra Pradesh on the country's southeast coast, where 42 people have died in the past 24 hours. The total toll in that state is now 1,719, according to K. Dhananjaya Reddy, director of the state's disaster management. At least 585 have died in the neighboring landlocked state of Telangana, and 26 in Odisha, farther north.

Temperatures hit a high of 48 degrees Celsius in some cities last week -- that's 118 degrees Fahrenheit. (Read more)

- Lord God, once again we come to You, maker of Heaven and Earth, and we ask You to cause this deadly heat wave in India to subside, and for temperatures to return to normal. Abba, we ask You to comfort those who mourn, and to bring the much-needed rain to this nation, as shown. We ask this in Your name, amen and amen.

- "There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain." (Isaiah 4:6)

Supreme Court's prophetic ruling to establish Sharia Law

The US Supreme Court recognized Sharia Law in its ruling EEOC v Abercrombie & Fitch. The Court ruled that clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch could not discriminate against Samantha Elauf by not hiring her because she wore a hijab to the job interview. Citing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prevents racial and religious discrimination in hiring practices, the Court set a precedence that Sharia Law can indeed trump traditional hiring practices and, quite frankly, Constitutional freedoms, if the religious test is applied. Among the petitioners were the Council on Islamic American Relations and the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination League. The decision will be the linchpin in establishing Sharia Law in America.

The opinion states: "Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits a prospective employer from refusing to hire an applicant in order to avoid accommodating a religious practice that it could accommodate without undue hardship. The question presented is whether this prohibition applies only where an applicant has informed the employer of his need for an accommodation." Further, the Court states, "Samantha Elauf is a practicing Muslim who, consistent with her understanding of her religion's requirements, wears a headscarf." These words and the ruling in favor of Islam may forever change how the US Constitution is applied in Sharia Law cases. It opens the door to every exception of Sharia when it clashes with US law.

Justice Clarence Thomas was the only dissenter. He wrote: "Because the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) can prevail here only if Abercrombie engaged in intentional discrimination, and because Abercrombie's application of its neutral Look Policy does not meet that description, I would affirm the judgment of the Tenth Circuit...I would hold that Abercrombie's conduct did not constitute "intentional discrimination." Abercrombie refused to create an exception to its neutral Look Policy for Samantha Elauf's religious practice of wearing a headscarf...it did not treat religious practices less favorably than similar secular practices, but instead remained neutral with regard to religious practices."

Thomas got it wrong, too. The Supreme Court should have first determined whether Islam was a religion or a theocracy. The US Constitution, by nature of the Sovereignty of the United States as a nation, cannot uphold theocratic law because that would be recognizing a form of government (such as a caliphate) antithetical to the US Constitution. Elauf was wearing a hijab because the law of the theocracy, Sharia Law, required it, not because the hijab was essential to her religious practice. In this case, Islam won a major victory for Sharia that will change application of US law. Deuteronomy 28 speaks of what happens when a people who profess the Lord no longer serve Him. Verse 48 says, "Therefore you shall serve your enemies which the Lord shall send against thee." The Supreme Court's ruling may have devastating prophetic consequences.

USA Freedom Act Gestapo-like shell game

It is a very rare thing these days when the "president," the House, and the Senate agree on something. They did so on revising and extending the Patriot Act with another misnamed "spy on all US citizens" bill called the USA Freedom Act. Americans have become accustomed to major laws that are named the exact opposite of what they do--Patriot Act, Affordable Care Act, No Child Left Behind Act, Clean Air Act and so on. When this "president" and this Congress agree on anything, it should raise your suspicion. The USA Freedom Act is a shell game being played on all Americans. It is another opportunity to continue spying on every American citizen, shifting accountability to a secret court.

Now all the federal government has to do is get approval to gather your phone records from an unconstitutional secret court called the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. The National Journal reports that "the Freedom Act calls for a transition within 6 months to a system where phone companies provide records to government spies on an as-needed, more-targeted basis after judicial approval is obtained from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court." The government's spying on US citizens was exposed and after much outrage, it was reinstated under a different procedure, hoping that Americans would be content that they won a victory for privacy. But your privacy ends "as needed."

In June 2013, the UK Guardian released an investigative story on how the White House used the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to bypass the Patriot Act. The Guardian published documents submitted to the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, signed by Attorney General Eric Holder July 29, 2009. The documents show that the White House used this court to back door "authority" to collect information on American citizens. The Guardian reported that the broad scope of the court orders and nature of the procedures established in the documents appeared "to clash" with assurances from the White House that our telephone and email information could not be accessed without warrants.

The White House knows how to use this secret court to spy on all Americans. The USA Freedom Act is just appeasement to make people think the government has corrected something. In reality, Congress and the White House have just back-doored their ability to oppress your freedom. As written in Jeremiah 6:14, "They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace." In John 3:20, Jesus said, "For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed." We need to continue to expose these deeds and demand accountability, otherwise your freedom of religion and of speech will be crushed in darkness.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

TSA: Terrible Security Agency?

TSA: Terrible Security Agency?

While the country is focused on the security issues surrounding the expiration of the Patriot Act, perhaps we should be more concerned about lapses at the Transportation Security Agency.

According to a report from the inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security, undercover investigators were able to successfully smuggle weapons and mock explosives past TSA agents in 67 out of 70 tests. That's a 96% failure rate!

My initial reaction to this news was anger. Thanks to TSA rules, travelers are routinely subjected to invasive pat downs. Yet this report suggests that all the aggravation and harassment is virtually useless.

One possible explanation for the terrible results is that the investigators are professionals who know the TSA's weaknesses and set out to demonstrate them in order to stay one step ahead of the terrorists. If the TSA security procedures are not working, they need to be fixed. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that this report could lead to even more intrusive procedures without added security.
I would feel a lot better if the number one reform at TSA were to concentrate resources on the people who fit the profile of those who have committed terrorist attacks. There are clear ways to do that, but we don't because it violates liberal sensibilities. (Gary Bauer)

THE CHURCH'S ONE FOUNDATION

""No one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid;
that foundation is Jesus Christ."
(1 Corinthians 3:11)

Lyrics:

The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord,
She is His new creation
By water and the Word.
From heaven He came and sought her
To be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her
And for her life He died.

She is from every nation,
Yet one o'er all the earth;
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

The Church shall never perish!
Her dear Lord to defend,
To guide, sustain, and cherish,
Is with her to the end:
Though there be those who hate her,
And false sons in her pale,
Against both foe or traitor
She ever shall prevail. . .

7 Earthquakes Reported Off the Coast of Oregon in the Last 24 Hours

UPDATE: SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Scientists say a cluster of 7 earthquakes ranging in magnitude up to 5.9 have struck off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, but haven't been strong enough to generate tsunamis.

The sixth and seventh quakes in the series struck Monday evening. They were the weakest so far, at magnitude 3.9 and 4.2.

The quakes have been shallow - about 6 miles deep. They've been clustered in an area about 300 miles west of Coos Bay, Oregon, along what's known as the Blanco Fracture Zone. U.S. Geological Survey scientist Julie Dutton says that's a well-known place for earthquakes.

The first quake came a few minutes before midnight Sunday, Pacific time, at magnitude 5.8. (NBC News) Read more.

Hallelujah! Brain/Immune System Link so "Game Changing," Docs Will Have to "Change the Textbooks"

(Charlottesville, VA)-In a stunning discovery that overturns decades of textbook teaching, researchers at the School of Medicine have determined that the brain is directly connected to the immune system by vessels previously thought not to exist. That such vessels could have escaped detection when the lymphatic system has been so thoroughly mapped throughout the body is surprising on its own, but the true significance of the discovery lies in the effects it could have on the study and treatment of neurological diseases ranging from autism to Alzheimer's disease to multiple sclerosis.
