The Daily Brief:
"Praying for All in Authority"
Wednesday, June 17, 2015

"Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand."
(Matthew 3:2)

A Rainbow Over the Supreme Court
This photo of the front of the Supreme Court was taken the night before the hearings on gay marriage:

Monday, April 27, at sunset. Please remain with us in prayer over the pending decision on traditional marriage until the verdict has been rendered.

" . . . from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. . . What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Mark 10: 6,9)

Thank You, Lord, for watching over this Court. In Jesus' name, amen.

"In a dream, a vision of the night,
When sound sleep falls on men,
While they slumber in their beds,

Then He opens the ears of men,
And seals their instruction,

That He may turn man aside from his conduct,
And keep man from pride;

He keeps back his soul from the pit,
And his life from passing over into Sheol."
(Job 33:15-18)

"I will bless the LORD who has counseled me;
indeed, my mind instructs me in the night."
(Psalm 16:7)

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. U.S. denies Israeli report on Obama inviting Netanyahu to meet - Reuters

The White House denied an Israeli newspaper report on Tuesday that U.S. President Barack Obama had invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet in Washington next month.

Citing unnamed U.S. State Department sources, Yedioth Ahronoth daily said the two leaders could meet in the White House on July 15 or 16, after the June 30 deadline for an Iranian nuclear deal over which they have frequently clashed.

Since Netanyahu's election to a fourth term on March 17, U.S. and Israeli officials have said they expected he would meet Obama again. But no date has been set, and a White House official denied Netanyahu had received any U.S. invitation. (Read more)

2. IDF chief: Army would act to prevent slaughter of Syrian refugees - Times of Israel

The IDF would act in the vicinity of its border to prevent the slaughter of Syrian refugees fleeing the war-torn country, Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said Tuesday, likely referring principally to the Druze citizens of Syria, who fear the wrath of the ISIS militiamen.

In his first hearing before the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Eisenkot said Syria was disintegrating, and voiced concern about the way the war has drawn close to Israel's border, according to the Knesset committee's spokesman, who briefed journalists after the meeting. 3. BREAKING! Palestinian government to resign within 24 hours -YNET News

Just one year after Hamas in Gaza and President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party in the West Bank announced their intention to form a unity government to end years of Palestinian conflict and division, local media reported Tuesday evening that the government in Ramallah would resign within 24 hours.

A political source in the West Bank confirmed the reports the Ynet and said that Abbas intended to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah early Wednesday morning. (Read more)

4. Former Egyptian President Morsi to receive the death penalty - Jerusalem Online

After a continuous legal struggle, an Egyptian court gave the death penalty to former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi. Furthermore, the court ruled that 80 other senior level Muslim Brotherhood terrorists will also be given the death penalty. Morsi is expected to appeal the decision.

Earlier, Morsi was sentenced to life imprisonment because of an espionage affair but later it was decided to give him an even more serious penalty after dozens of Muslim Brotherhood terrorists escaped from prison. (Read more)

5. Kerry: Accounting of Iran's past atomic weapons work not key for deal - Times of Israel

WASHINGTON (AP) - US Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday that a full accounting of Iran's possible past atomic weapons research is not necessarily critical to reaching a nuclear deal with Tehran. His comments came amid concerns the Obama administration is backing down on demands that Iran resolve concerns about previous work as part of an agreement that would curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Kerry said the US and its negotiating partners are "not fixated" on the issue of so-called "possible military dimensions" because they already have a complete picture of Iran's past activities. He said they are more concerned that those activities have stopped and about what Iran might do in the future. Negotiators are concentrating their efforts on that as they race to meet a June 30 deadline to reach a deal, Kerry said. (Read more)

6. Israel, US, cause of Mideast extremism, says Iranian FM - Times of Israel

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told a visiting member of the Mexican government on Tuesday that the unrest in the Middle East stems from US and Israeli occupation.

"Extremism and terrorism in the Middle-East are rooted in the US and Zionist regime's policies for occupying other countries," Zarif told Senator Gabriela Cuevas Barron when the two met in Tehran, the semi-official Iranian Fars News Agency reported on Tuesday. (Read more)

7. IDF to discharge 100,000 reservists, slash officer corps - Times of Israel

The IDF will discharge some 100,000 reservist soldiers who have not been called up for duty for several years, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said Tuesday.

Eisenkot told a meeting of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the cutback aimed to reduce the military bureaucracy needed to maintain the Israel Defense Forces' reserve force, the Hebrew-language Haaretz website reported. (Read more)

8. The Israeli Commandos Who Crossed the World to Rescue a Comrade - Breaking Israel News

Or Asraf, a soldier in the elite IDF commando unit, Egoz, went missing in Nepal during the earthquake. Though, like him, his comrades-in-arms had finished their military service and begun civilian life, they came together and organized a mission to rescue him. Tragically, he was found dead.

One of his commanders, Gai Haris, joins VOI's Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel to recount the story that touched the heart of every Israeli - because the IDF never leaves a man behind, even if he's on the other side of the world.

Now the men from the unit are organizing an event to commemorate Or and two other soldiers - who were killed in Gaza. To help in this endeavor or donate to the cause, e-mail: 3heroes4ever@gmail.com. (Read more)

1a. 'BILL' SLAMS TEXAS: Storm dumping up to 12 inches on Lone Star State - Fox News

Tropical Storm Bill barrels into the Texas coast, dumping up to 12 inches of rain on a region recovering from recent flooding in a powerful punch that belies predictions of a mild hurricane season.

The storm sent waves crashing against the seawall on the barrier island city of Galveston before moving along the coast to Matagorda Island around 10 a.m. local time. Sustained winds of 60 mph were expected, and heavy rain could bring major flooding to a state experiencing one of its wettest springs on record. Austin was expected to get as much as 12 inches of rain, and other parts of Texas and Oklahoma anywhere from 4 to 8 inches. (Read more)

1b. Alaska wildfires destroy dozens of homes, menace highway - Reuters

wo fast-spreading Alaska wildfires have forced a series of evacuations, destroyed up to 45 homes and forced authorities to restrict traffic on a major highway connecting two of the state's largest cities, state officials said on Monday.

As many as 200 firefighters have been battling a 6,500-acre fire about 40 miles (64 km) north of Anchorage since Sunday afternoon.

About 137 miles (220km) south of Anchorage, crews are fighting a much smaller, but equally dangerous blaze that threatens nearly 200 homes. (Read more)

- Father, we thank You that, in Your Word, You promise to keep us safe in the midst of natural disasters. Today we ask You to direct the WIND in Alaska, and the WAVES in Texas in a direction that would keep our citizens from harm's way. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "The men were amazed and asked, 'What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!'" (Matthew 8:27)

2. U.S. House Votes To Buy Time For Obama's Trade Agenda - NPR

This afternoon, the U.S. House voted 236 to 189 to give itself six more weeks to sort out tangled legislation involving trade.

The House Republican leaders prodded their members to approve a rule change that extends time for a second vote on one part of a trade package. This portion, called Trade Adjustment Assistance, failed on Friday.

That outcome tripped up the entire package, which also would have granted Trade Promotion Authority to the president. Now lawmakers have until July 30 - just before the August recess - to try to find compromises to pass the entire package and get it to President Obama for his signature.

When that second vote might happen is far from clear at this point. Democrats were virtually united in opposing the six-week extension to reconsider the matter, even though that's what Obama wanted. (Please read more here.)

- Father, today we are breathing a temporary sigh of relief, that this bill has not gone through. Now, Lord, we ask for Your grace to sustain us as we remain "on the wall," watching and monitoring all activity related to these trade measures. We ask that You protect our nation from any moves that would weaken or destroy our sovereignty, and we ask You to forgive the members on the Hill (some of whom are Christians) who do support these bills. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "(We) will not be disheartened or crushed Until He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law." (Isaiah 42:4)

3. Republicans quivering if Obamacare overturned - WND

'It's amazing we don't have a strategy right now'

The congressman's voice was calm but there was exasperation in his words, and an implicit concern that Republicans were poised to snatch defeat from the jaws of a major victory.

Referring to a Supreme Court decision, due any day now, that could effectively overturn Obamacare, U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, lamented, "I think there is some fear in some circles in the Republican Party that if this decision goes our way that it's actually bad for us."

Sounding incredulous, he told reporters on Capitol Hill, "And I'm having a hard time understanding that, because, if it goes our way, then it will be exactly as we've been saying: that the way it was passed was wrong, that it was illegal and there might even be some constitutional issues with it."

The dilemma perceived by some in the GOP is, if the Supreme Court does rule in King v. Burwell that the federal health-care exchange was set up illegally, Republicans will get the blame when as many as 6.4 million Americans suddenly have no subsidies to pay for their insurance.

"If anybody loses their subsidies, it's going to be because the president and his party decided to write the law in a way that was wrong," insisted Labrador. "And to enforce the law in a way that was outside the law." (Read more)

- Lord God, we lift up the justices of the Supreme Court before Your Throne of Grace, asking that You direct them according to Your will in this issue of Obamacare. Lord, if there are some who will be found "wanting" when this verdict is rendered, we trust in You to supply their needs. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen and amen.

- "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

4. Stocks fall globally as Greek talks collapse - watch.org

Stock markets around the world fell on Monday, suffering their first bout of significant contagion from the Greek crisis after 11th hour talks between the near bankrupt country and its creditors collapsed.

The losses were broad across risk assets. Major stock indexes fell sharply, as did crude oil prices, while the euro weakened against the dollar. Gold and silver rose on the day.

Talks on Sunday between Greece and its creditors - described as a last attempt to bridge their differences - broke up after less than an hour. European Union officials said Athens had offered no new concessions to secure the funding it needs, while Athens said it would not give in to demands for more pension and wage cuts. Greece must repay 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion) to the International Monetary Fund by mid-year.

Greece has already been bailed out twice and many banks have cut their exposure to the country while euro zone authorities have put in place mechanisms to limit contagion. However, the prospect of default and the possibility of Athens leaving the euro weighed heavily on investor sentiment.

"It does look like a technical default is in sight at the end of the month and the market could see a significant pullback," said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at Rockwell Global Capital in New York. (Read more)

- Lord God, we have seen this crash coming for a long time now; and today that time seems to have arrived. Help us, O Lord we pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen and amen.

5. 'No to Euro gay values': Russian police and citizens stop homosexual 'pride' parade for tenth year in a row - Lifesite News

MOSCOW, June 8, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) - The public authorities and citizens of Moscow continued their long-standing resistance to homosexual ideology this year, stopping an unauthorized "gay pride" parade in the center of their city and arresting participants, according to reports in local and international media. Despite being refused a permit for the tenth year in a row, parade organizers attempted to carry out a demonstration on Tverskaya Street, just across from the mayor's office, but were foiled by pro-family counter-protesters and police, who descended upon them in large numbers to interrupt the illegal event. (Read more)

- Lord God, we are fully aware that there are now dangerous signs in the political realm that Russia and America may soon even be at war. Nevertheless, we honor this nation for its stand against homosexuality, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God . . ." (I Corinthians 6:9)

6. After blasphemous gay pride parade, Brazil seeks to ban 'Christophobia' - LifesiteNews

June 11, 2015 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In the wake of numerous homosexual "pride" parades laced with anti-Christian profanities that have sparked outrage in Brazil, legislators are advancing a new law that will make "Christophobia" a felony.

Rogério Rosso, representing the nation's federal district in the House of Deputies, has responded by proposing a new law prohibiting such displays and imposing a fine, and up to eight years in prison, for perpetrators. Such legislation would reverse the penalties sought by homosexuals against Christians who express their rejection of sodomy, applying them to homosexuals and others who desecrate the sacred images of a religion.

"The intention of the bill is to protect the beliefs and objects used in religious rituals by Brazilian citizens, because what has been happening in recent years during demonstrations, particularly those of LGBTs, is what we can call 'Christophobia,' with the practice of obscene and degrading acts which show prejudice against Catholics and Evangelicals," Rosso states in the text of the bill. (Read more)

- Holy God, we thank You that the people of Brazil -- and members of their own Parliament -- have not taken leave of their senses, and that this bill is now on the docket, waiting to be passed. We ask that members of our own Congress, both in the House and in the Senate, would also speak up and introduce and pass similar legislation in America. We ask this in Your name, amen and amen.

- "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." (James 1:22)

7. Putin says Russia beefing up nuclear arsenal, NATO denounces 'saber-rattling' - Reuters

President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia was concerned about an anti-missile defense system near its borders, after announcing that Russia would add more than 40 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) to its nuclear arsenal this year. "We will be forced to aim our armed forces . . . at those territories from where the threat comes," Putin said.

Putin made his comments a day after Russian officials denounced a U.S. plan to station tanks and heavy weapons in NATO member states on Russia's border. Putin said it was the most aggressive act by Washington since the Cold War a generation ago. (Read more)

- Father, we intercede over this move by the U.S. and Russia. We pray these threats will cease. Bring wisdom, understanding, and cooperation to this situation. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

8. Message to Moscow: Pentagon reportedly set to send heavy military equipment to Eastern Europe - Fox News

The Pentagon reportedly is poised to send heavy military equipment to Eastern Europe and the Baltic nations, as part of an effort to bolster U.S. forces there and send a message to Russia. No final decision has yet been made, but Poland Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said Sunday that decision will come "soon." He confirmed in a tweet Sunday that he and U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter held talks about placing U.S. heavy army equipment in Poland last month. "Decisions are near," he wrote.

Asked about the reports, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told Fox News: "Over the last few years, the United States military has increased the prepositioning of equipment for training and exercises with our NATO allies and partners. The U.S. military continues to review the best location to store these materials in consultation with our allies. At this time, we have made no decision about if or when to move to this equipment."

If the Pentagon proceeds, it would mark the first time since the Cold War the U.S. has stationed such equipment in those NATO countries that once belonged to the Soviet Union. (Read more)

- Father, we speak peace over this move. We pray that the utmost caution will be used to not provoke an unnecessary reaction from Russia. Help us work closely with our allies on this storage of equipment. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

The video narrator, Khaled Batarfi threatened revenge, saying the group would attack and "destroy" U.S. interests. (Read more)

- Lord God, we ask that the death of this man would place the fear of You, God, in the hearts of others in this network, that they would see that their god isn't so powerful after all. Lord God, let them repent and come to You for salvation, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

- "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." (I Timothy 1:15)

10. 'All Churches in America Have Muslim Spies in Them,' Warns Author Avi Lipkin - Christian Post

They Are 'Cataloging' Every Jew and Christian in Preparation for Jihad

Jewish author Avi Lipkin warned Monday that "all" churches in America have been infiltrated by Muslim spies who frequently pretend to have found Christ but are really looking to provide intelligence to radical Muslims who will try to kill all Jews and Christians when jihad is ordered upon the U.S.

"It is very dangerous for a Muslim to even be associated with Christian missionaries or Christian churches unless they are spies. My wife has picked up broadcasts that say all the churches in America have Muslim spies in them, including former Christians who converted to Islam," Lipkin said.

"When Muslims come to you and say 'Oh yes, we have accepted Christ and we are born-again,' you gotta be real careful because lying in Islam is not only permissible it is commanded. Lying is a virtue in Islam to defeat the enemy." (Read more)

- Father, we pray as these Muslim spies enter these churches, may they experience Your presence in such a way that they turn from Islam and confess You as their Lord and Savior. We pray You use them to spread the gospel wherever they go. In Jesus Name.

- "For when You did awesome things that we did not expect, You came down, and the mountains trembled before You." (Isaiah 64;3)

First Lady says Muslim woman's story is her story

I was looking at this picture of a grieving mother in Syria holding her headless daughter and what appeared to be an Islamic State barbarian holding the head. I thought to myself that these brutal animals just can't help themselves from killing men, women, and children who will not submit to their outrageous thearchy. Then I read a story where the "first lady" went to England to address a group of hijab-clad school girls on the topic of empowering women. They are from what is described as a hotbed of London's Islamist activity. You know what she told them? "When I look out at all these young women, I see myself. In so many ways your story is my story." Really?

A little less than a year ago, the UK Daily Mail reported that a nun tore down the black flag of the Islamic State in the village of Tower Hamlets. It was flying some two weeks side by side with the Palestinian flag. Tower Hamlets is considered an enclave of radical Islamists. The "first lady" described Tower Hamlets as a place where "families are tight knit...with strong values." Breitbart reports that the values held by the ruling Islamic cabal in Tower Hamlets are not something to brag about, as "Almost half of Britain's 1300 cases of Female Genital Mutilation last year were from London. No prizes for guess which areas these emanate from." The epicenter of those areas, according to news reports, is Tower Hamlets.

Breitbart reports that The Mulberry School for Girls, where the "first lady" gave her talk is also a hotbed for anti-White, anti-Israel sentiment. "...it has also played host to hard-left conferences sponsored by groups such as 'War on Want', which is closely tied to anti-Israel activities in the United Kingdom, the 'Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament' which has its roots in communist sympathizing, and indeed the European Parliament. The Mulberry Youth Conference boasts amongst its speakers Shami Chakrabarti from left-wing campaign group Liberty, ...anti-white racist columnist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, hard-left activist Owen Jones, and feminist campaigner Lucy-Anne Holmes."

Heavy sigh. The only way a woman would want to be part of Islam is if she is brainwashed or so oppressed that she fears for her very life if she leaves--which Sharia Law would certainly allow her execution if she did leave. From mutilation to abuse to human trafficking to sex slavery to honor killings, how on earth is it possible for the "first lady's" story to be the same as an oppressed Islamic woman? Does she mean that she has submitted to an Islamic husband? What is she saying? What message is she sending by visiting and speaking to a Marxist Islamic school for girls? As Isaiah 5:20 says, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Islamic State routed from stronghold

Islamic State routed from stronghold on Syria-Turkey border

The Islamic State was routed Monday from one of its key strongholds on Syria's border with Turkey after its defenses crumbled and its fighters either defected or fled, raising new questions about the group's vaunted military capabilities.

The fall of the town of Tal Abyad to a Kurdish-Syrian rebel force backed by U.S. airstrikes came after just two days of fighting during which the militants appeared to put up little resistance, focusing instead on escaping to their nearby self-styled capital of Raqqa or fleeing across the border to Turkey.

The force - led by Kurdish units of the People's Protection Units, or YPG, and including local battalions of the rebel Free Syrian Army - pulled the Islamic State flag down from the border crossing with Turkey on Monday and by nightfall said it was in control of the town center.

There were reports of scattered fighting on the western outskirts of Tal Abyad, but the advancing force had already severed the militants' escape route, closing in on the town Sunday in a pincer movement from the east, south and west.

It appeared the Islamic State had suffered a stunning defeat, its first major reversal since it was driven out of the Iraqi city of Tikrit in April, and one that could prove far more consequential. Tal Abyad commands the major trade and smuggling routes on which the Islamic State has relied for its supplies from the outside world and, most significant, the flow of foreign fighters to Raqqa, the first major city it conquered.

- Lord God, we rejoice today at this news, and we ask that this victory continue now until ALL of the ISIS forces have been degraded and dismantled and destroyed. Hallelujah!

Thank You, Lord, that the freedom fighters in Syria have now been joined by the fearsome Kurdish warriors, so that, working together in unity, these battles are being won. Thank You, Lord, for hearing and answering our prayers, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen and amen!

- "Blessed be the Lord,
Because He has heard the voice of my supplication.

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults,
And with my song I shall thank Him.

The Lord is their strength,
And He is a saving defense to His anointed.

Save Your people and bless Your inheritance;
Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever."

Israel Strikes Gold!

Billions of Dollars of Gold Discovered Under Eilat Mountains to be Used to Rebuild Third Jewish Temple

HALLELUJAH!

"The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there." (Genesis 2:12) A treasure-trove of raw gold worth billions of dollars is believed to be sitting under Mount Eilat in southern Israel, Breaking Israel News has learned.

In an exclusive interview, Rabbi Yehuda Glick, the Executive Director of The Temple Mount Heritage Foundation in Jerusalem, revealed the news, which had been kept under wraps for the last several years.

Glick is perhaps best known for his life's mission of assuring that the Temple Mount is accessible to all people from every religion who want to worship at the holy site. His dedication to the Temple Mount resulted in an October 2014 assassination attempt on his life by a Palestinian terrorist.

Shot four times in the chest, Glick has made a miraculous recovery and continues his work to open the Temple Mount to prayer for all peoples.

Glick told Breaking Israel News that there are billions of dollars worth of gold in Mount Eilat, which he and his partner, Yehoshua Friedman, have received an exclusive license to unearth by the Israeli government.

Explaining the discovery, Glick said that everything began with Friedman, a Temple Mount researcher who had been studying each of the 12 unique stones set on the breastplate of the High Priest as described in the Bible. Each stone represents one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

During his studies, Friedman realized that without a geology background he could not properly appreciate the depths and meanings behind each of these stones. This led to his discovery that in 2007 gold had been found in the mountains of Eilat by an Australian research team, who later abandoned the dig because the value of gold at the time was not worth their efforts.

Friedman and Glick, knowing the Biblical verses concerning gold in the Land of Israel, realized that this was a project which had to be pursued.

Together, alongside several other companies seeking to find gold in the land of Israel, Glick and Friedman presented to the Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure a tender to dig in the Eilat mountains.

"Because of the extensive Biblical proof we presented about the exact location where the gold was to be found, we won the license to begin digging," Glick told Breaking Israel News.

Their company, Gold Deposit Ltd., now has a two-year exclusive permit, from January 2015 to December 2016, to excavate the chosen area and find the gold.

When asked what these modern day Biblical explorers plan to do with their billions in gold, Rabbi Glick replied, "Ultimately, we expect to use the gold in the rebuilding of the Third Temple. Whether we use the gold itself for creating vessels and decoration or by selling the findings and using the money to buy the materials and manpower needed to rebuild the Temple, we look forward to that great day!"

Miracle Breakthrough in Israel for Diabetics

"Goldilocks" Discovery in Israel Offers New Hope to Diabetics

"This is a plant that only grows in Israel, Jordan and the Sinai, and has been used traditionally by Bedouins for controlling diabetes. I've been screening different Israeli plants for diabetes and this is one of the best candidates." -Jonathan Gorelick

Ingesting an indigenous Israeli aromatic shrub called Chiliadenus iphionoides (more commonly, "sharp varthemia" or "Goldilocks") could improve insulin secretion and glucose absorption in people with diabetes, according to plant biologist Jonathan Gorelick, scientific director of the Judea Regional Research and Development Center in Israel.

The center's efforts to isolate the plant's active compounds-and to assure these compounds are present when the plant is grown in the greenhouse rather than in the wild-is the topic of Gorelick's presentation today at the 25th Judea and Samaria Research Studies Conference at Ariel University.

"This is a plant that only grows in Israel, Jordan and the Sinai, and has been used traditionally by Bedouins for controlling diabetes," Gorelick tells ISRAEL21c. Our Grandmothers' Songs

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

GRACIOUS SPIRIT, DWELL WITH ME

"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)

Lyrics:

Gracious Spirit, dwell with me!
I myself would gracious be;
And with words that help and heal
Would Thy life in mine reveal;
And with actions bold and meek
Would for Christ my Savior speak.

Truthful Spirit, dwell with me!
I myself would truthful be;
And with wisdom kind and clear
Let Thy life in mine appear;
And with actions brotherly
Speak my Lord's sincerity.

Tender Spirit, dwell with me!
I myself would tender be;
Shut my heart up like a flower
In temptation's darksome hour,
Open it when shines the sun,
And his love by fragrance own.

Mighty Spirit, dwell with me!
I myself would mighty be;
Mighty so as to prevail,
Where unaided man must fail;
Ever, by a mighty hope,
Pressing on and bearing up.

Holy Spirit, dwell with me!
I myself would holy be;
Separate from sin, I would
Choose and cherish all things good,
And whatever I can be
Give to Him Who gave me Thee!

Asteroid Icarus to skim past the Earth in rare 'distant pass'

Asteroid Icarus, the kilometre-long spacerock named after the Greek mythological character that flew too close to the sun, will skim past the Earth on Tuesday night making a rare "distant pass" of five million miles.

According to Nasa, the asteroid 1566 Icarus will safely pass by the Earth at more than 21 lunar distances, which is the distance between form the Earth to the moon.

The next time the rock is set to approach the Earth at this kind of close distance will not be until 20 90, when it will skim past marginally closer at 17 lunar distances. (The Independent UK) Read more

Talley's birthday weekend began on Thursday, with a special greeting from President Barack Obama who sent his "warmest wishes" to the world's oldest woman, said Freep.com.

The president said in his letter to Talley, "The breadth of your experiences and depth of your wisdom reflect the long path our Nation has traveled since 1899. During this time, there have been setbacks and breakthroughs, false starts and improbable victories, and through it all our country's spirit has endured - strengthened and enriched by each generation."
Friends and family of Talley said she always reminds them to "always do what's right," and that a person "can never, ever pray enough." (The Gospel Herald) Read more here.

PRAISE GOD, I'M A CHILD OF THE KING

- The Speer Family

Once I was clothed in the rags of my sin
Wretched and poor lost and lonely within
But with wondrous compassion the King
Of all Kings in pity and in love took me under His wings
Oh yes
Oh yes
I'm a child of the King
And His royal blood now flows in my vein

And I who was wretched and poor now can sing
Praise God praise god Im a child of the king
And now I'm a child with a Heavenly home
And my Holy Father He has made me His own
And I'm washed in His blood and I'm clothed in His love
And someday I'm Gonna sing with the angels above
