The Daily Brief

1. Christie apologizes over lane closures, fires top aide - Fox News

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie publicly apologized Thursday for controversial lane closures last year that were arranged by his associates as an apparent act of political revenge, and fired a top aide who was at the center of the scandal.

"I come out here to apologize to the people of New Jersey," he said. "I am embarrassed and humiliated." The governor added: "I am stunned by the abject stupidity that was shown here." (Read more)

- Only our God knows what really has occurred in this case, but we do know we serve a God of mercy. We ask Him to show His mercy to Governor Christie at this time, and we place the governor's political career in His hand. Amen.

- "Your kingdom come, Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." (Mt. 6:10)

2. Feds pick Obama supporter to lead probe of IRS tea party targeting -Washington Times

The Justice Department selected an avowed political supporter of President Obama to lead the criminal probe into the IRS targeting of tea party groups, according to top Republicans who said Wednesday that the move has ruined the entire investigation.

- Father, we ask that this decision be reversed, and the person be removed from the position.

- "Deceit is in the heart of those who imagine evil." [Proverbs 12:20a]

3. Rubio: War on Poverty has been lost - Washington Times

"Five decades and trillions of dollars after President Johnson waged his War on Poverty, the results of this big-government approach are in," he said. "We have four million Americans who have been out of work for six months or more."

Rubio added that "economic, social, cultural and educational changes and challenges" have caused poverty to get worse and that the federal government was not equipped to fix it.

- Lord we pray for those who are in poverty, and who have no jobs to sustain their families. We also pray that the big government policies which have failed them be changed.

- "You have prepared of Your goodness for the poor." [Psalm 68:10b]

4. Former Gitmo detainee with ties to al Qaeda implicated in Benghazi attack -Washington Times

U.S. officials believe that former Guantanamo Bay detainee Abu Sufian bin Qumu, who was released in 2007 and sent to Libya, played a role in the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

- Lord, we knew that releasing "gitmo" detainees was a problem. We ask for justice.

- "Evil shall slay the wicked; and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate." [Psalm 34:21]

5. Judge: Homeschooling a 'concrete endangerment' to kids - WND

A judge has issued a stunning verdict in a homeschooling case in Germany, ordering that the parents cannot have custody of their children because the family might move to another country and homeschool, posing a "concrete endangerment" to the children.

- Father, this decision is the real "danger" to the children. We pray for the parents in this situation, and ask for Your power and Presence to help them. We apply Your Blood to their situation and to the homeschoolers across the globe.

- "For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yes, you shall diligently look for them, but you will not find them." [Psalm 37:10]

A California elementary school is facing a possible lawsuit after a teacher allegedly confiscated a six-year-old child's Christmas candy canes and told him "Jesus is not allowed in school."

- Lord, we cannot fathom this kind of action in a society. We pray for that child's heart, and we bind up the anti-Christian sentiments within the teacher.

- "But whoever shall offend one of these little one that believe in Me, it would be better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck, or that he were drowned in the depths of the sea." [Matthew 18:6]

7. House Intel panel: DOD report finds Snowden leaks helped terrorists - The Hill

A classified Pentagon report found that leaks from NSA leaker Edward Snowden have put U.S. troops at risk and prompted terrorists to change their tactics, the leaders of the House Intelligence Committee said Thursday.

House Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and ranking member Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Mich.) said that the Pentagon report found a significant portion of the 1.7 million documents Snowden took were related to current. U.S. military operations. (Read more)

- The situation involving Eric Snowden is complex and difficult. Pray in the spirit over this report, and ask our Lord to place His Hand of protection over each man or woman in uniform who may be in harms' way as a result of His actions. Pray!

- "Pray without ceasing . . ." (1 Thess. 5:17)

8. ALERT! Majority of senators back new Iran sanctions - The Hill

A majority of senators now back new sanctions on Iran, complicating the Obama administration's efforts to avoid a vote on legislation it claims could derail nuclear talks.

Fifty-three lawmakers have now signed on to the measure from Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), according to the latest count from the Library of Congress.

The bipartisan bill had 26 co-sponsors when it was introduced on Dec. 19 and has quickly been gaining traction since then; it drew another seven before the recess and 20 more this week.

- PRAY OVER THIS BILL AND THE COMPANION BILL THAT IS WORKING ITS WAY THROUGH THE HOUSE. IN THE END, 2/3 OF THE MEMBERS IN EACH CHAMBER WILL NEED TO VOTE TO OVERRIDE AN EXPECTED VETO BY THE PRESIDENT, SHOULD THIS BILL PASS OUT OF CONGRESS. THE CLOCK IS NOW TICKING AGAINST ISRAEL AS IRAN IS VERY NEAR DEVELOPING ITS NUCLEAR WEAPON. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS, AND YOUR ACTIONS, ON THIS CRITICAL ISSUE.

- "Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power." (Psalm 110:3)

Family of Imprisoned North Korea Missionary Shocked by ex-NBA Star Comments - ABC News

The family of Kenneth Bae, an American citizen detained in North Korea, is "outraged" by former NBA star Dennis Rodman's comments suggesting that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was right to detain the missionary.

"Dennis Rodman could do a lot of good by advocating for Kenneth to Kim Jong-un, but instead he has decided to hurl outrageous accusations at my brother, insinuating that Kenneth has done something sinister," Bae's sister, Terri Chung, said in a statement today.

"He is clearly uninformed about Kenneth's case, and he is certainly not in any position to pass judgment on Kenneth Bae, who has never any hostile intentions against the DPRK," she added.

Week of January 6 - 10, 2014

Obamacare

The agenda:

When the House reconvenes this week, Republicans plan to bring two Obamacare-related bills to the floor. In an effort to force the hands of administration officials who are being cagey about the status of enrollment on the Obamacare website, H.R. 3362 would require weekly reporting on website progress. These reports would include weekly updates on the number of unique visitors to the websites, accounts opened, and people enrolled in healthcare plans - all of which would be broken down on a state-by-state basis. The bill would also require regular updates on progress to fix the website.

The other bill, the Health Exchange Security and Transparency Act, would require the HHS to notify anyone whose personal information was compromised while using the Healthcare.gov website. Both bills will receive floor votes on Friday.

Conservative outlook:

On the one hand, it is welcome news that Republicans will open the year with its first focus directed towards the failures of Obamacare. However, Republicans need to be careful not to focus too much on the website while ignoring the broad systemic problems of government-run healthcare, along with the higher costs and job losses associated with the onerous mandates. They must also make sure that these stand-alone votes, which will never become law, are not used as straw men to replace the only real means of fighting Obamacare - attaching riders to must-pass legislation, such as the upcoming debt ceiling increase.

Undoubtedly, the website will be fixed in the coming months and millions of people will begin to register for health plans. This will not represent success. Quite the contrary, millions of people who will lose their health insurance will have no choice but to apply for these sub-par and expensive taxpayer-subsidized plans. Hence, if we focus exclusively on the website and the lackluster enrollment numbers, we will distract attention from the real problems and play into the hands of Democrats.

This week's legislative assault on Obamacare will be nothing more than a vacuous gesture unless Republicans begin beating the drum against raising the debt ceiling until Democrats agree not to fund one more penny of Obamacare with new debt.

Cataclysmic prophetic storm on the horizon

The rapid decline of America as an international leader and from within economically, politically and spiritually is debated as to whether it is God's judgment or the consequences of going against God's laws. Whatever you believe, you may be witnessing the development of one of the biggest prophetic storms we have ever faced as a people. Zechariah 2:7,8 speaks of Jerusalem, "Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwells with the daughter of Babylon. For thus says the Lord of Hosts; after the glory has he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye." There are prophetic consequences to the US for its treatment of Israel and they are roiling swiftly to a head.

Some of the signs of this prophetic storm for America are readily visible. The president has spent his time in office building up the enemy of God and of Israel--Islam. It is akin to a pre-reformation of the Ottoman Empire, an Islamic state that ruled the Middle East, Northern Africa and Eastern Europe for 623 years. From the Islamic takeovers in the so-called Arab Spring to dealing with al Qaeda and its offshoots in Syria to the handing over of Afghanistan and Iraq to Sharia Law constitutions to negotiating with Iran to the disruption in Jordan, Egypt and other countries, this Administration has exponentially escalated the advance of Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood via its foreign policy.

Domestically, there are signs of the prophetic storm on the horizon. A record 47 million Americans are on welfare, up 13 million since 2008. A record 50 million Americans live below the poverty line. Those who have given up looking for a job are estimated by some economists as high as 60% of the available workforce. The Centers for Disease Control says that for the second year in a row, the fertility rate of women in the United States fell to a record low and that 2012 marked the fifth straight consecutive year that over 40% of American babies were born to unmarried women. At taxpayers' expense the Fed has spent over $4 trillion to prop up Wall Street, creating a false floor in the economy.
I have only touched on a few things here, but Americans are about to pay the price for electing immoral and covetous leadership that goes against the laws of God in nearly every aspect of governing. Moreover, recent polls indicate nearly 75% of Americans distrust the government. Disapproval of the president is 53%. Disapproval of Democrat and Republican representatives is 80% and 87%, respectively. At the same time, gun sales in 2013 reached record highs. All these signs point to the consequences of government not enforcing just laws and people not obeying the laws of God. As Christ said in Matthew 24:12, "And because lawlessness shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."
It may not happen today, or tomorrow, or even this year, but when this prophetic storm reaches a crescendo, people will want answers. It will be your time as a Christian to shine the light of Christ upon this dark situation. May you speak boldly as you ought to speak.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

AIPAC Action Alert

AIPAC Action Alert: Please Contact Your Senators

January 7, 2014

Dear Friends,

As you know, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) introduced the Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2013 before the holidays. This legislation, cosponsored by an additional forty-eight Democratic and Republican Senators, would strengthen American diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from achieving a nuclear weapons capability.

If you would, please take a moment to call your senators to thank them for their cosponsorship if they have already done so and to urge those who have not signed on yet to do so.

Please go here to find an updated action alert with more information, sample phone scripts and and talking points.

I want to thank you in advance for your action on this crucial legislation and for your continued dedication towards ensuring a strong US-Israel relationship.

Sincerely,

Jeff Mendelsohn

Obama vs. Christie

Obama vs. Christie

Think about this, friends. Christie is being pummeled today because his aides punished New Jersey commuters in retaliation for a mayor not doing what they wanted. Is that really very different from Barack Obama punishing veterans and tourists during the government shutdown because congressional Republicans wouldn't do what he wanted? There is little doubt that the open air memorials and national parks were closed in the hopes that outraged visitors would blame the Republicans.

And while Christie may not be my first choice for chief executive, at least he's acting like one by firing the people responsible. Has Obama fired anyone at the IRS? Has Obama fired anyone at the State Department for Benghazi? Has Obama fired anyone at the Justice Department for Fast and Furious? The answer would be no, no and no. (Gary Bauer)

"Incredible": Seen Only Twice Since Jesus' Death, Fabric Found with Same Sacred Blue Dye Used on Fringe of High Priests' Garments

"Speak to the Children of Israel and say to them that shall make themselves tzizit on the corners of their garments, throughout their generations. And they shall place upon the tzizit of each corner a thread of turquoise wool (techelet)." -(Numbers 15:38)

(Israel)-The Israel Antiquities Authority has announced they have found a 2,000-year-old piece of fabric dyed with extract from the Murex Trunculus which produced a unique color called "teckhelet" (meaning blue or turquoise) in Hebrew, and was used on the blue fringe of priestly garments.

Incredibly, scientists have only been able to verify two other fabrics discovered in the last 2,000 years that contain the rare dye.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the gland of the sea-snail secretes a yellow fluid that, when exposed to sunlight, turns purple-blue. The Book of Chronicles infers that the veil of Solomon's Temple was made of the same color.

Various sources report that researchers believe the fabric may have belonged to Jewish refugees escaping during the Bar-Kokhba revolt against the Romans after the fall of Jerusalem, 132-135 AD.

The discovered fabric represents one of the few remnants of the sacred color ever found.

'HAND OF GOD'

NASA telescope captures eerie cosmic image

Religion and astronomy may not overlap often, but a new NASA X-ray image captures a celestial object that resembles the "Hand of God."

The cosmic "hand of God" photo was produced when a star exploded and ejected an enormous cloud of material, which NASA's Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR, glimpsed in high-energy X-rays, shown in blue in the photo. NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory had imaged the green and red parts previously, using lower-energy X-rays.

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
