"Praying for All in Authority"

Friday, January 31, 2014

"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land-- not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11)
Thank you for praying for the Persecuted Church!

The Daily Brief

1. House passes bill to bar federal funds for abortion - NBC News

The House has passed legislation that would permanently prohibit federal funds from being used to pay for almost all abortions.

- Abba, we thank You for the passage of this bill in the House. We pray that the Senate will confirm it, and that the President will sign it into law. The vast majority of American citizens do not want their money spent on ending human life, so we praise You for this step in the right direction. In Your Name we pray, Amen.

- "So shall you purge the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord." (Deuteronomy 21:9)

2. White House: Minimum wage order will benefit 'couple hundred thousand' workers - Washington Examiner

The White House on Thursday said that hundreds of thousands of people would benefit from a forthcoming executive order raising the minimum wage for new federal contract workers.

- Father, again we are concerned that this President seems to issue "executive orders" much more than any previous presidents. Even if the order is "good", it is an obvious attempt to go around Congress, and legislate from the Oval Office. We ask that this President will read our Constitution, especially with regard to the separation of powers and will, as he swore to do, uphold this Constitution and live by it. We pray that Congress will "hold his feet to the fire" as they deal with this situation of excessive executive orders, and bring unity, we pray. Amen.

- "Obey these laws carefully, in order to show the other nations that you have wisdom and understanding. When they hear about these laws, they will say, 'This great nation is wise and understanding." (Deuteronomy 4:6)

3. IRS rules change seen as limiting free speech for nonprofit organizations - Washington Times

Conservative groups are mounting a major resistance effort against the Internal Revenue Service's post-tea party targeting scandal rules, which are designed to clamp down on outside groups' ability to organize as nonprofits and still play a role in political conversations. (Read more)

- Lord, we thank You for Your revelation of the agenda of the IRS against the politically Conservative groups, and that these groups are resisting those efforts. We pray that the American people will see the subversiveness of these actions against Conservatives, and there will be an outcry even among the liberals.

4. House GOP wants legal status but no citizenship for illegal immigrants - Washington Times

House Republican leaders have ruled out a special pathway to citizenship but do support granting some form of legal status and work permits to most illegal immigrants, according to the broad set of principles GOP leaders released Thursday that pushed the issue back to the political forefront.

-Father, we thank You that Congress is addressing this issue of illegal immigrants. We ask for unity between the House and the Senate in their deliberations. We do pray that only those immigrants who are seeking citizenship, be allowed to vote; and not the others. Being a citizen involves responsibility as well as accountability, and privileges to those who vow allegiance to our nation. We thank You for this progress, and pray it will continue for the good of all the people in these United States.

- "Arise, for the matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it."
(Ezra 10:4)

5. US Fed Chairman Steps Down After 8 Difficult Years - VOA

U. S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke steps down Friday after guiding the world's largest economy through years of tumult. Bernanke wins praise for crisis management and some criticism for unfinished reforms. Bernanke says managing the economic crisis in 2008 was like driving a car that narrowly avoids a terrible crash. "It is my nature, I think, to kind of focus on the problem," he said.

- Father, we thank You for U.S. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke's service to his country these last eight years, and ask that he have a pleasant retirement, after all these years of crisis management. We pray for wisdom for his successor, that he will be blessed with constructive ideas for any changes that may need to take place. We ask for Your mercy and grace to be upon the new U.S. Fed. Reserve Chairman, that all Americans may profit. In Your Name we pray, Amen.

- "My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck." (Proverbs 3:21,22)

6. Obama, CEOs to Announce Action on Long-Term Unemployed - VOA

President Obama and the CEOs of major U.S. companies will formally announce Friday a pledge to do more to spur hiring of the long-term unemployed. The initiative is part of Obama's pledge in his State of the Union Address to use executive powers to take actions that will help create jobs, even in the absence of specific legislative action by Congress. Obama spent Thursday in the U.S. Midwest and South where he talked about the initiative.

~Father, we are glad to see this effort being made to hire the long-term unemployed. We know that many men's self-esteem is in their jobs and their ability to provide for their families. We thank You for this effort in addressing these needs of those who have been unemployed for a long time. We ask that their skills may be used appropriately, and that both employers and employees will benefit from this initiative. We ask this in Your Name and for Your glory, Amen.

- "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day." (Deuteronomy 8:18)

7. Asia Stocks Struggle Following US Fed Decision - VOA

Asian stocks were down Thursday following the U.S. central bank's decision to further trim its stimulus of the world's biggest economy. Japan's Nikkei index declined as much as 3.2 percent during trading to a two-and-half-month low, before recovering to finish down 2.5 percent. Other Asian stocks were also lower, including Hong Kong's Hang Seng, which closed down one-half percent. European stocks were also lower in early trading.

- Abba, we see the world markets nose-diving, both Asian and European, in response to decisions economically in the U.S. We pray that You will use this situation to bring glory to Yourself, as investors realize that earthly riches may fail them, but Your true riches are secure and boundless! We thank You that You are a Rock and a Sure Foundation, and those that put their trust in You will not be disappointed. You are our Provider and Protector, and we praise You, and pray for the salvation of those who are fearful for the future. Amen!

- "This is what the Lord says: Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord." (Jeremiah 22:23,24)

8. New Conservative Coalition Likely Terrifies the Establishment - The Blaze

If there's any truth to that saying, the establishment in Washington and progressives everywhere are likely none too pleased to hear that conservative personalities Glenn Beck, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity are on the same page and joining forces to help the country get back on what they feel is the right path. (Read more)

- We offer praise to the Lord for this encouraging news, as this report, once again, is a direct answer to prayer. May our God continue to stir the hearts of our people to rise up against the encroaching move of governmental tyranny that is upon us, and may we move with His wisdom and a sense of His timing in all we say and do.

- "So we built the wall and the whole wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work." (Nehemiah 4:6)

9. America's Biggest Sporting Event Attracts World Media - VOA

America's biggest sporting event - the Super Bowl - has a major global following. Viewers around the world will tune in to American football's championship game this Sunday to watch the Denver Broncos face the Seattle Seahawks. It's the first outdoor, cold weather Super Bowl in NFL history - this year held at MetLife stadium in New Jersey, just outside New York City. There was quite a frenzy Wednesday at Media Day in Newark, New Jersey. The Super Bowl is the biggest. . .

- Abba, we are concerned about the reported abuse that takes place "behind the scenes" at the Super Bowl, and also the Olympics; i.e. human trafficking, as well as sexual perversions, drugs, etc. We ask Lord, that You, Who sees all, and hears every conversation, will expose these people and their godless intentions! May there be no place they can do their perversion and lawlessness, without attention, we pray. We ask You to expose their sin, and who they are, in Jesus Name. Amen!

"For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open."(Mark 4:22)

- Lord God, we are also deeply concerned for the safety and the protection of all the fans who will be present inside MetLife Stadium. If there be any plans of the wicked to cause disaster, we turn to You, Almighty God, to disrupt and to destroy those plans, and to bring the terrorists to justice. We ask this prayer in Your Holy Name, amen.

-"He frustrates the plotting of the shrewd,
So that their hands cannot attain success.
"He captures the wise by their own shrewdness,
And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.'
(Job 5:12,13)

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Thus says YHWH: 'If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not given the ordinances of the heavens and the earth, then I will cast away the seed of Jacob, and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will bring back their captivity, and have mercy on them.' (Jeremiah 33:25-26)

The Daily Jot

Crime and Prejudice

Did you know that the highest crime rates are found in the cities and states that have the strictest gun laws? The top 5 US cities with the most murders in 2012 were the occupant of the Oval Office's adopted home town of Chicago, New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles--strictest gun laws in America. The FBI says that 69% of all homicides in the US involve a gun. A recent mall shooting in Maryland left three dead, including the shooter. He opened fire with a shotgun on a busy Saturday morning. Maryland's gun laws are so restrictive that the courts hold them as unconstitutional. Yet no leftist wants to admit that criminals will get guns no matter how restrictive the laws are. But that's not all.

The Parents Television Council conducted a study from the fall of 2012 and 2013 to analyze the violence on both broadcast and cable primetime programming. PTC found that "The following forms of violence comprised 77% of the violent and graphically violent depictions that aired during primetime broadcast on TV-14 rated shows: Child molestation, rape, mutilation/disfigurement, dismemberment, graphic killings and/or injuries by gunfire and stabbings, violent abductions, physical torture, cannibalism, burning flesh, suicide, beatings, guns and bladed weapons that were depicted but not used, and dead bodies." PTC found that 67% of the weapons depicted were guns.
This does not include movies at the theaters, video games and other forms of expression, such as music, that utilize and market gun violence. PTC reports "In 2000, Nielsen Media Research reported that youth ages 2-17 spent an average of 19 hours and 40 minutes per week watching television." Are the long term effects of this exposure to gun violence culminated in shootings like those in Columbia, Maryland? Is it appropriate to blame the gun or rather the personal responsibility of the shooter, and beyond that, those who write, act in, produce and market such violence that permeates our society and has such an influence on the present generation?
Here is a sure bet: The leftist politicians and the leftist Hollywood actors, writers and producers are in cahoots. The Hollywood types fund the politicians. The politicians kiss up to the Hollywood types. They all cry the loudest about banning guns. But if they really believed in their cause, why do they take roles in programs, movies, video games, and music that glorifies gun violence? If they were really thought leaders, as they like to promote themselves as the intellectual elite, they would campaign to stop any form of entertainment depicting gun violence. While they are openly hostile and prejudiced against law abiding citizens who own guns, they themselves promote gun violence. James 1:8 says, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Israel Alert: Joel Rosenberg

The White House is trying to impose a Mideast peace deal. Here's what you need to know.

By Joel C. Rosenberg (@joelcrosenberg on Twitter)

(Washington, D.C., January 31, 2013) -- The very fact that Israeli leaders on the center-right of the political spectrum are getting so anxious, even angry, strongly suggests two rumors are true:

1.The Obama administration and the Europeans are putting enormous pressure on the Netanyahu government behind the scenes to say "yes" on to an American-crafted peace plan; and

2. Netanyahu is seriously contemplating agreeing to deeply painful and enormously controversial concessions, possibly even dividing Jerusalem and rolling Israel back to her pre-1967 borders.

Many analysts have felt for the past year that Secretary Kerry's frenetic efforts to jump-start the Israeli-Palestinian peace process wer going nowhere and doomed to failure. Now there is rapidly growing evidence that Kerry has driven the two parties into the corner, and that he appears to be putting the most pressure on the Israeli side to make the deepest concessions.

Bolder than Holder

Bolder than Holder:

Cruz Demands Answers from DOJ

For once, Eric Holder is conducting an investigation instead of being the subject of one. Even that's proving to be a tall task for the U.S. Attorney General, whose agency can't seem to put aside its political motives long enough to give conservatives a fair shake. And while accountability isn't exactly the motto of this Justice Department, Congress at least expected a pretense of concern over the very serious allegations of conservative targeting at the IRS.

At a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesterday, Attorney General Holder feigned interest as he listened to members rant about the DOJ's indifference over one of the most shocking scandals to hit the IRS in modern history. It's "astonishing," said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) of Holder's lack of urgency. Despite stacks of evidence dating back to 2010, DOJ has yet to hold anyone accountable for the high-level shakedown of tea party groups applying for nonprofit status.
"In the 280 days since that inspector general report, nobody has been indicted. Not a single person. In the 280 days since that inspector general report, it's been publicly reported that no indictments are planned. Today in this hearing, you were unwilling to answer a question whether even a single victim of targeting has been interviewed," Cruz scolded. "Two hundred and eighty days have passed and apparently the anger and outrage that both the President and you expressed has utterly disappeared." Holder shrugged off the insinuation that the investigation was being conducted with the same bias as the original targeting. He insisted the probe was above board and that there was no need for the special prosecutor Cruz called for. "[I know this] by looking at the facts, applying the law to the facts and reaching the appropriate conclusions."
That's hardly a comfort to conservatives, who know that there are two things Eric Holder rarely considers: the law or the facts. The IRS's viewpoint suppression, which can be traced all the way to senior management, aimed to shut down the President's opposition by holding back the groups' application for nonprofit status. One of the victims, True the Vote's Catherine Engelbrecht, said her organization was run through the gauntlet, with agents asking "hundreds of questions over and over again. "They requested to see each and every tweet I've ever tweeted or Facebook post I've ever posted. They also asked to know every place I've ever spoken since our inception and to whom, and everywhere I intend to speak in the future." The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and Occupational Safety Hazards Administration all started snooping around, followed by surprise audits of the family's business.
And according to Cruz, none of this was a coincidence -- not with a generous Obama supporter at the helm. "[I]t has not been publicly reported that the lead lawyer heading the investigation was, No. 1, appointed from the civil rights division, which has historically been the most politically charged division in the Department of Justice. And even more astonishingly, is a major Democratic donor and donor to President Obama."
Knowing this, Cruz asked, was the DOJ taking a closer look at the meetings between the head of the IRS and White House operatives? As if on cue, Holder clammed up, insisting he couldn't discuss an ongoing investigation. Either way, Cruz went on, the DOJ's integrity has been "severely compromised." That's putting it mildly, considering Fast and Furious, Holder's defiance of marriage law, pornography laws, marijuana laws, gambling laws, and his own shame of being held in contempt of Congress -- which, at this point, is nothing compared to the public's contempt. A Moment Of Truth

A Moment Of Truth

Immigration reform, budgets and taxes are all important issues. But I believe America's growing virtue deficit and the breakdown of the family are equally important, if not more so, to the survival of this great nation.

Strong families are the foundation of strong societies and parents are the greatest role models in a child's life. Even when you think they are not paying attention, they are!

So when the Inspiration Network recently approached my public policy organization, American Values, with a unique opportunity to promote the family, I gladly accepted. Together we produced an ad about the critical role parents play in developing the character of their children. Watch it here. Your support for our work makes opportunities like this possible. Thank you, my friends.
When so much of the popular culture mocks and undermines traditional values, the Inspiration Network is a great alternative with family-friendly entertainment and classic shows you can enjoy with your kids. Please support them and their advertisers! (Gary Bauer)

A note from CHPP:

We are delighted to know that our dear friend, Gary Bauer, has also discovered The Inspiration Network. Their programs are all refreshing, wholesome and delightful!

A small word of warning, however: should you tune into The Inspiration Channel, be advised that it is hard to turn it off!
As their network slogan states:

Common Core Curriculum

Common Core Curriculum

Like Obamacare, what some are now calling "Obamacore," is yet another top-down mandate being imposed upon the states that want to keep receiving federal funds to which they are entitled. Already in place in most states, like Obamacare, parents are learning what is "in the bill" only now that it is in force. Christian parents are fleeing public schools because of the secular indoctrination children are subjected to, but experts and parents everywhere are rejecting this one size-fits-all, teach-to-the-test, dumb-down-dumber federal standard.

- May the citizens of our American states reject Common Core and every overreach by the federal government -- especially with regard to the education of their children.

- "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children." (Hos. 4:6)

The Good News Corner

The Good News Corner:

Chick-fil-A Staff Trudged Through Snowstorm to Give Away Free Food
to Stranded Motorists; Opened Restaurant for Shelter

"This company is based on taking care of people and loving people before you're worried about money or profit. We were just trying to follow the model that we've all worked under for so long and the model that we've come to love. There was really nothing else we could have done but try to help people any way we could." - Audrey Pitt, Birmingham, Alabama, Chick-fil-A store manager

While the media focused on the hit the south took in the recent cold snap that wreaked havoc on millions in terms of gridlock, closures, accidents and governmental incompetence, one story of plain Christian kindness deserves more attention.

Much more.

When hundreds of motorists became stuck and stranded on Highway 280, Charisma News reports that "a good number of those stranded motorists were able to find shelter in the storm thanks to the kindness and generosity of Chick-fil-A restaurant employees and the restaurant's owner, Mark Meadows."

Meadows had closed his restaurant because of the storm, but when his staff couldn't get to their homes because of the ice and snow, they returned and together they decided to help other stranded motorists-for nothing.

"We cooked several hundred sandwiches," said store manager Audrey Pitt, "and [slipping and sliding as we did it] stood out on both sides of 280 and handed out the sandwiches to anyone we could get to-as long as we had food to give out."

Responding to statements of surprise that the food was given free-of-charge, Pitts said, "This company is based on taking care of people and loving people before you're worried about money or profit. We were just trying to follow the model that we've all worked under for so long and the model that we've come to love. There was really nothing else we could have done but try to help people any way we could."

Not only did the Chick-fil-A restaurant give out free food, they also opened up a room for people to sleep in a booth or on a bench. "And this morning," said Pitts, "we're not open for business. We're just feeding people who are hungry."

One recipient of the franchises generosity, Lauren Dango, was so impressed, she wrote a letter to the company's corporate headquarters.

"Kudos to Mark Meadows for not only preaching the 'second mile' concept," she wrote, 'but actually living by it.'"

Kudos indeed. Our hat is off to you Mr. Meadows, and your entire staff, for being true ambassadors of Christ!

Signs and Wonders

Signs and Wonders:

UK floods: More weather warnings for south and west

More rain, high winds and high tides are set to hit the south and west of the UK, causing further flooding. The Met Office is warning of heavy rain in southern England - including the already flooded Somerset Levels - south Wales and parts of Northern Ireland. The Environment Agency, which has issued numerous flood warnings, said many coastal areas would be affected by high tides in the coming days. (BBC) Read more.

"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near." "I'll Fly Away!"

by Kenny Rogers

Some glad morning when this life is over
I'll fly away
To a home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away

I'll fly away O Glory
I'll fly away
When I die Hallelujah bye and bye
I'll fly away!

When the shadows of this life are gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from prison bars has flown
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joy shall never end
I'll fly away

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner.
