The Daily Brief

"Praying for All in Authority"

Monday, January 27, 2014

"The days are coming," declares the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine through the land-- not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11)
Thank you for praying for the Persecuted Church! Beginning this week, we will refer you to our own sources so that you can pray in depth for the needs of the persecuted church.
Please visit the website for the International Christian Concern to find needs for prayer among the persecuted around the world. Thank you.

The Daily Brief

1. Supreme Court Issues Injunction Against Contraception Mandate - Townhall.com

Friday afternoon, the Supreme Court issued an order for an injunction against forcing private businesses to apply for an exemption to Obamacare's contraception mandate.

The Little Sisters of the Poor - a Catholic group that cares for the old and infirm - have challenged Obamacare's contraception mandate on the grounds that it violates religious liberty. The Supreme Court is considering the case, and while the case is under consideration, it has issued a temporary order that businesses will not have to provide contraception coverage, or to follow the Obama Administration's "guidelines" to fill out the paperwork required to provide contraception coverage indirectly. (Read more)

- Offer a great chorus of PRAISE for this action by the Supreme Court. Now that this "temporary" stay has been issued, pray that the Lord will move upon the hearts of these nine Supreme Court justices to impose a permanent injunction against this mandate. We ask this in Jesus' Name, amen.

- "Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth." (Psalm 2:10)

2. Foes of Obama trade pacts mostly fellow Democrats - Townhall.com

Debates on lowering trade barriers can turn Congress upside down for Democratic presidents promoting such legislation. Business-minded Republicans suddenly turn into allies and Democrats aligned with organized labor can become outspoken foes. It's a reversal of the usual order of things, where a Democratic president can generally count on plenty of support from fellow Democrats in Congress along with varying levels of resistance from Republicans. Now it is President Barack Obama's turn to experience such a role reversal. Already, he is encountering pockets of Democratic resistance, especially from those representing manufacturing states, to his efforts to win congressional approval for renewal of "fast track" negotiating authority. (Read more)

- Pray in the Spirit over this report, as our Lord realigns the political landscape in Congress according to His perfect will. In Jesus' Name, amen.

- ". . . pray without ceasing . . ." (I Thess. 5:18)

3. Homeland Security Secretary: Illegals Have 'Earned Right to be Citizens' - CNSNews.com

Speaking at the United States Conference of Mayors on Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the approximately 11 million people who are in the country illegally have "earned the right to be citizens." "An earned path to citizenship for those currently present in this country is a matter of, in my view, homeland security to encourage people to come out from the shadows," said Johnson, in what he remarked was one of his first public speeches since being confirmed as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief in December.

"The five core missions of the Department of Homeland Security are guarding against terrorism, securing our borders, enforcing our nation's immigration laws, safeguarding cyberspace and critical infrastructure in partnership with the private sector, and supporting emergency preparedness and response efforts at every level," Johnson said. Then he concluded his remarks by calling for "comprehensive, common sense, immigration reform." (Read more)

- The degree of lawlessness emanating out of this administration continues to astound us. Ask our Lord to stir the hearts of our people to rise up and to protest this egregious overturning of the rules of citizenship. This attitude is an absolute insult to the millions who have immigrated here, and then gone through the process of studying to pass the citizenship test, and to pass it. Draw a line of the Blood of the Lamb around the present immigration laws, and pray that only that which is in the will of God and in the best interests of our people will be retained.

- "He will . . . try to change the set times and the laws." (Daniel 7:25)

4. Arizona Sheriffs Say Border Not Secure as Immigration Reform Looms - Newsmax

As Congress prepares to take up immigration reform, two high-profile Arizona sheriffs tell Newsmax the federal government's effort to secure the border has been a dismal failure. Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said bluntly: "The border is not secure." "I'm telling you that as somebody on the ground, as someone who experiences it every day. This is a lie that is being peddled by those who must convince the American people that it is secure and everything is just fine," Babeu told Newsmax.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio echoes that view: "Drugs are still coming, illegal aliens are still coming into the U.S.," he told Newsmax. "You can't just say we must secure the border first and then we'll look at illegal immigration. That border will never be secure. "Why not say we are going to enforce the U.S. immigration laws, not only on the Mexican border, but on all the borders around the country?" (Read more)

- Offer praise for a true report coming from these sheriffs in the State of Arizona. The truth about our border security may be painful, but these facts need to be heard. Pray that those in authority over our borders and our policies to secure them will hear the voices of these men and women who are on the front lines, defending the sovereignty of our nation. Pray.

- "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:19,20)

5. Marijuana export could pay off Hawaii's debts, lawmaker says - Fox News

She promised she hasn't inhaled, but House Majority Floor Leader Rida Cabanilla is looking to marijuana to solve some of Hawaii financial troubles.Cabanilla said she hopes to legalize cultivation, manufacturing and exporting of marijuana and marijuana food products in Hawaii to pay off the state's billions of dollars in unfunded liabilities as well as make infrastructure repairs and fund public education and human services programs. (Read more)

- Pray that these ideas of the state legislator in Hawaii do not get off the ground, nor that other states might follow. To see a better way to solve the financial problems of a state, please note the article below, honoring the governor of the State of Wisconsin. Amen.

- "He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." (Daniel 2:21)

6. Cops: WMD Found at Russian National's House During Pot Bust - Breitbart

On Friday evening, Pennsylvania authorities arrested a Russian citizen for reportedly possessing a weapon of mass destruction. Police arrested Vladislav Miftakhov, a 19-year old who the Altoona Mirror reports is an engineering student at Penn State Altoona, after finding "a suspected bomb and other bomb-making materials inside a suitcase." They had originally gone to his residence to investigate reports that he was growing marijuana at his home.  Miftakhov "is charged with possessing a weapon of mass destruction, risking a catastrophe, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possessing instruments of crime, prohibited offensive weapons, incendiary devices, recklessly endangering another person, possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia." (Read more)

- Praise God they caught this kid in time! Who knows what nefarious scheme he had up his sleeve before these diligent cops in Pennsylvania busted this kid? Only our Almighty God - that's Who! Pray that, if Vladislav Miftakhov is tied to a larger ring of terrorists, that this, too, would be exposed and dealt with out of hand. Offer praise; and offer prayer. Amen.

- "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)

7. Hollywood Brainstorms 'Portraying ObamaCare in TV & Film' - Breitbart

According to an email invitation sent out by the Writers Guild East and obtained by Breitbart News, members of the Hollywood elite and the Obama Administration will be gathering in the middle of next month for a panel titled, "The Affordable Care Act: Comedy, Drama & Reality - Portraying ObamaCare in TV & Film." Julie Green Bataille, a director at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will represent the Obama administration.

Two powerful left-wing Hollywood organizations combining with the federal government's powerful CMS is not something to be taken lightly. The intent here is obvious and deadly serious, and the American people should brace themselves for a propaganda push in their film and television entertainment that is meant only to aid and abet Obama's federal government. (Read more)

- Please pray that the American people will not be taken in by this scheme. We need a miracle here; only our God is big enough to stop this machine from rolling over all of us. Father we ask You for this miracle now, in Jesus' name, amen.

- "Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee." (Jer. 32:17)

8. Olympic Contestants Warned Against Wearing 'USA' Attire - CBN

The United States is cautioning Olympic athletes against wearing team USA clothes at the upcoming Sochi games. A memo was sent to athletes by the U.S. Olympic Committee warning about security concerns in the southern Russian resort town. The State Department told competitors that doing so could pose a safety risk, according to the Wall Street Journal. "The U.S. Department of State has advised that wearing conspicuous Team USA clothing in non-accredited areas may put your personal safety at greater risk," the memo said. (Read more)

- Please continue to offer aggressive and diligent prayer that any and all hidden plots to create a terror attack at Sochi be dismantled NOW. The clock is ticking . . . may we all live in peace under the Mighty Hand of God. Amen.

- "He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them." (Job 5:12,13)

9. Egypt clashes kill 49 on third anniversary of revolution - BBC

At least 49 people have been killed in clashes in Egypt as the country marks the anniversary of the 2011 uprising which overthrew President Hosni Mubarak, the health ministry says. Rival demonstrations of supporters and opponents of the military-backed government took place in Cairo. But police broke up anti-government protests, and arrests were reported in Cairo and Alexandria. (Read more)

- Lift up the people of Egypt, who have struggled so hard and so successfully to throw off the yoke of tyranny under former President Hosni Mubarak, and to refuse the imposition of Sharia law under his administration. May they be strengthened by the hand of Yahweh now and in the days to come to retain the freedom they now enjoy. In Jesus' Name, amen.

- " . . . being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Phil. 1:6)

10. Ukraine crisis: Opposition rejects offer of PM post - BBC

Ukrainian opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk says protests will continue after he rejected President Viktor Yanukovych's offer to appoint him as prime minister of the country. Mr Yatsenyuk said the opposition was generally ready to accept leadership, but several key demands must be met, including new elections. The crisis in Ukraine escalated last week when two activists were killed, and another was found dead with torture marks in a forest near the capital. A fourth, 45-year-old protester is said to have died in a Kiev hospital on Saturday from injuries sustained in earlier violence. On Friday protesters seized a number of government buildings in Ukrainian cities outside Kiev, particularly in the west, which has traditionally favoured closer ties with Europe, including in the cities of Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk and Lviv. (Read more)

- The following prayer requests have been submitted to us by missionaries on the land:

"We are asking you for a prayer of agreement, that the Lord God now raise a standard against the enemy, who is trying to come in like a flood. But, He promises, by His Spirit, to raise up a standard against him, and put him to flight. (Isaiah 59:19 AMP) Also, pray that a door for the Gospel to be spread, will be opened even greater, and not lessened; and especially, to rescue orphans in danger of human traffickers and every kind of abuse you can imagine. We are living in the devil's back yard. And it is time to free the prisoners. Also, if any of you are connected with serious prayer movements, please pass these requests on to them as well:

1) For the Spirit of the Lord to raise up a standard against the enemy. 2) For an outpouring of God's Holy Spirit, to bring repentance, salvation, and healing to the land of darkness, and to our nation. 3) For the government to turn to God, and for leaders to make wise and godly decisions, in establishing the government. 4) For God to stretch out His hand to do miracles of every kind, to confirm His Word, and the preaching of the Gospel to the poor." Thank you!

"Thus says YHWH: 'If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not given the ordinances of the heavens and the earth, then I will cast away the seed of Jacob, and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will bring back their captivity, and have mercy on them.' (Jeremiah 33:25-26)

1. Pigs' Heads Mailed to Israeli Embassy, Synagogue in Rome
- Israel National News

Boxes containing pigs' heads have been sent to the Israeli embassy in Rome and the city's synagogue, Italian media reported Saturday. The package mailed to the embassy in the wealthy Parioli area of the Italian capital was intercepted by police after other similar parcels were sent to the synagogue and the Jewish Museum of Rome. The city's mayor was swift to condemn the apparent anti-Semitic incident. The threats come just days ahead of the International Commemoration Day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust on January 27. (Read more)

- Thank the Lord that the mayor of the city of Rome immediately condemned this wretched act of anti-semitism. Lift up all law enforcement officials who are looking into this case, so that these perpetrators can be found and brought to justice. Their indictment should serve as a warning to any others who might be plotting similar acts of desecration, so that this will stop here. In Jesus' Name.

The Youth of America and wisdom

Friday, Jan. 24, 2014

Socialist health care has its problems from websites that don't work to phone numbers that direct people to pottery shops and so on. But the biggest hope in saving America from this unconstitutional and dangerous path to tyranny may be found in America's youth. This generation, though most of it brainwashed by the government schools into a plethora of immorality and stupidity, is still enough "American" to smell a dead rat about to poison the wellspring of liberty. According to an analysis by Moody Investors Service the socialist insurance exchanges have not been "attracting" enough younger individuals to pay for the biggest wealth redistribution and citizen control program in United States history.

The socialist health care system depends on young people, who usually do not need a lot of health care, to do the heavy lifting of paying for the bulk of the socialism. In doing so, like everyone who signs up, their personal information is not secure, it is given over to Homeland Security for a gestapo-like check, and the bulk of the money will then be deducted out of wages. This particular generation is far more technology savvy than any before. They are not as likely to trust unsecured websites. Additionally, they are leery of big government having their personal information. This may account for the sign up of only 24% of enrollees between ages 18 and 34 when the government needs 40% to make it work.

Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Hopefully, the children between the big cities on each coast have been trained up enough in American exceptionalism by their parents to reject this threat to liberty. I know my son and his buddies will not sign up. They know that this is not about health care, but rather about control. Socialist health care, in the form it is as defined by this particular government, is the snare that drags into the pit of tyranny. It is destructive on all ends--people will receive far less and pay exponentially more and the economy will suffer. Already the participating insurance companies have been downgraded by Moody Investors.
For you and your children and their children to have jobs, be able to pursue their lives and seek happiness, less government and more God is needed. Government was never meant to replace God. It is not the place of government to force people to give their hard earned money to others who did not earn it. It is the place of the people, moved by the Godly compassion in their hearts to take care of one another. In this there is blessing. In government compulsion, there is tyranny and destruction. Equality comes in the eyes of God, for all have the opportunity to everlasting life by accepting the gift of salvation through Christ. God knows, it is of nothing if it is forced acceptance. May the youth of our nation be so wise.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

State of the Union Address Tomorrow

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers to deliver the Republican Address to the Nation

First time ever: Live streaming of this speech made available to the public

Dear Friends,

I'm writing to let you know about a special event.

This Tuesday night - minutes after the State of the Union - my friend and colleague Cathy McMorris Rodgers will deliver the Republican Address to the Nation.

We will be streaming the speech live on our website, and here are just a few reasons to tune in:

#1: Cathy will articulate a hopeful vision of how we can empower people to get ahead regardless of where they started.

Hers will be a conservative and personal message - with a broad appeal to all Americans - about how we believe a government that trusts the individual is the best way to help create jobs, boost take-home pay, and build a thriving middle class.

#2: There is no better person to deliver this message at this moment.

An extraordinary leader who hails from a farming family in Eastern Washington, Cathy has gone from growing up picking apples on her family's orchard and working at the McDonald's drive-thru to become the highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress. Hear more about Cathy and her compelling story in this short video.

[Note from CHPP: We encourage all of you to watch this video. Rep. McMorris is the mother of a child with Down's Syndrome!]

#3: For the first time, we will be streaming an enhanced version of the Republican Address to the Nation.

This means, if you watch Cathy's speech on our website, you'll have access to all the facts, graphics and background information you need to follow along. We want to make sure you have every resource at your disposal to help spread the word.

I hope you will tune in Tuesday night to our website and please invite your friends, relatives, colleagues, and neighbors to do the same. It's going to be something special.
Sincerely,

John Boehner
Speaker of the House

- Please lift up Rep. McMorris as she prepares her heart to deliver this address to the nation on behalf of the Republican Party. Pray, too, for her own protection as well as that of her family and her staff.

We remain in prayer, too, for the President of the United States as he also prepares his remarks. May truth prevail tomorrow night on both sides of the aisle during the State of the Union Address. Thank you.

- "For the Lord watches the righteous, and he pays attention to their prayers." (I Peter 3:12)

On Wisconsin!!

On Wisconsin!!

Governor Scott Walker Imposes Conservative Fiscal Policies

Turns the Economy Around from Deficit to Surplus, Promising a Rebate
to Taxpayers

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh expressed disgust, though not shock, that the mainstream media ignored an "earth-shattering" story out of Wisconsin that "should have caused a political earthquake."

The state of Wisconsin's unemployment rate is "rapidly falling" and the government's budget ended the year with a $912 million surplus, Limbaugh explained. He says the dramatic turnaround is due in large part to the conservative policies of Gov. Scott Walker.

What's even more amazing, he continued, is the fact that Walker is going to "rebate the money in the form of tax cuts to the people, who he said own the money." Limbaugh says the news is "earth-shattering" because, in one of the bluest states, Walker was targeted for removal twice but continued to implement conservative policies that he was confident would help his state - and his strategy appears to be working.

"They did everything they could to gin up hate, anger, tried to destroy his reputation, his career, and his life," he said. "He hung in there. The state of Wisconsin instituted his policy reforms, de-emphasizing the role of unions in the state."

"He's going to cut income taxes and property taxes, and he made the point that it's not just a gimmick of budgeting or accounting. It's the result of serious, significant policy changes," Limbaugh argued.

"Now, folks, what I just told you was not reported once anywhere in what you would consider mainstream media. It was not reported on one cable network, much less all of them. It was not reported in the New York Times, the Washington Post, or the LA Times," he added. "It was reported in Wisconsin. There was an AP story on it, maybe some local papers picked it up, but just as a filler."

"And to me, for us as conservatives, Wisconsin and Governor Walker, I mean, everything that we want to happen, happened there," the radio host concluded. (The Blaze) Read more here.

- Offer a chorus of praise for this good news report. Pray that the media WILL pay attention to this amazing news, and report it across the nation so that many other governors and mayors can impose similar policies in their own jurisdictions. There is hope yet for our nation. Pray!

- "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)

American Pastor Saeed Abedini Moved to Political Prisoner Ward in Deadliest Prison in Iran - Health Concerns Grow

American Pastor Saeed Abedini, who has been wrongfully imprisoned in Iran for more than a year because of his Christian faith, has been moved from the murderer ward to the political prisoner ward in Rajai Shahr Prison.

Make no mistake; Pastor Saeed is still in the deadliest prison in Iran facing deteriorating medical conditions. This is the first positive step, however slight, since his transfer from Evin Prison last November.

For the first time in six weeks, Pastor Saeed's Iranian family was able to visit with Pastor Saeed today in his new prison ward. No reason was given for the move and his family reports that this new ward, still within the dangerous walls of Rajai Shahr, represents a slight improvement in his treatment. Pastor Saeed is now receiving better meals.

Pastor Saeed's wife, Naghmeh, responded to this latest development saying:

There is a glimmer of comfort to know that my husband has been transferred out of the murderers' ward, but my heart aches to know the pain he continually suffers and that his injuries necessitate surgery. As a family, it is difficult to be so far away and unable to comfort him in his pain. Though we are encouraged by the transfer to the new ward, such a small step is far from an unconditional release where Saeed is reunited with our family. While this development is welcomed, we desperately await his return home.
The Iranian regime continues to wrongfully imprison Pastor Saeed - a U.S. citizen - for his Christian faith in the deadliest prison in Iran. Until Pastor Saeed is free to return to his wife and two young children in the U.S., we must never give up. We must continue to pressure Iran for his freedom.

When the Obama Administration refused to even ask for Pastor Saeed's release during negotiations with Iran, we not only lost a critical opportunity for his freedom but effectively insulated Iran from ever feeling the need to free this U.S. citizen.

His freedom has not been a top priority for Obama Administration and the U.S. State Department. We continue to believe that renewed economic sanctions on Iran may now be the best chance we have to bring Iran back to the negotiating table - a key to Pastor Saeed's freedom. You can sign our petition demanding a vote in the U.S. Senate to sanction Iran at BeHeardProject.com.
We continue working with world leaders and urging the U.S. government to make Pastor Saeed's freedom a priority. Please continue to pray for Pastor Saeed's release and share his story. He must never be forgotten. (American Center for Law and Justice)
"For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; From heaven the Lord viewed the earth, To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To release those appointed to death, To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem . . . " (Psalm 102:19-21)

Remembering the Holocaust

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
This is also the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camps at the end of World War II.
On January 27, 1945, the Soviets entered this complex of camps, which included a concentration, extermination, and forced labor camp, liberating more than 7,000 prisoners, most of whom were sick or dying. Only 7,000 were left in the camp because the Nazis killed thousands in a fevered frenzy as the Soviets approached.

Then they began evacuating Auschwitz, forcing nearly 60,000 prisoners, mostly Jews, on a Death March in the cold of winter. The marching prisoners suffered from starvation and exposure, and anyone who fell behind was shot. Over half died.

Of the estimated 1.3 million people-at minimum-who were deported to Auschwitz between 1940 and 1945, at least 1.1 million were murdered.

Remembering Holocaust Victims

Today, Auschwitz remains a memorial to the millions whose lives were lost there.

To commemorate those who were murdered during the Holocaust, an unprecedented delegation of the Israeli Knesset (parliament) is in Auschwitz today taking part in Poland's annual remembrance ceremony.

The delegation comprises 64 Members of Parliament (MK), including Finance Minister Yair Lapid, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, Education Minister Shai Piron, Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel, and Pensioners' Affairs Minister Uri Orbach.

Chief Rabbi David Lau will also attend with a total of 250 dignitaries.

Before traveling to Poland, Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein said he envisioned the event as having "the potential not just to be a memorial but to develop into a symposium for elected officials to discuss how the Holocaust and anything like it can never happen again."

Also attending are famed author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel and lawmakers from the US, Canada, UK, France, Sweden, Australia and other countries.

Thirty Israeli Holocaust survivors will join Israel's MKs.

Such visits to Auschwitz by Holocaust survivors are emotional.

"To stand in this place with my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren-this is my sign of victory. This for me is closure," one survivor told Jonny Daniels, who organized the Knesset visit to the site.

In a recent interview on Fox News with Mike Huckabee, Daniels said, "We often hear 'This can never happen again.' The reason this can't happen again is because we have our own state. We're a strong people now. We have our own army. We have our own government, and to be there in a symbol of force is a truly remarkable thing."

Calling Auschwitz an "industrialized killing machine taking the lives of nearly 6,000 people a day," Huckabee, who is also in Auschwitz today, told viewers that the camp claimed the lives of over a million Jews through mass exterminations, starvation, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments.

Huckabee closed the segment with Daniels by highlighting the "Star of David" emblem for Daniels' organization, From the Depths, which works with Holocaust survivors around the world and seeks to build a brighter future by preserving the memory of the Holocaust.

Half of the symbol appears as the star worn by Jews during the Holocaust. The other half reflects the strong lines of the star on Israel's national flag. (Various sources)

Before this day is over, please take a minute to bow your head in prayer before our Lord and weep over the millions of lives that were taken in the Holocaust. May we decree together: NEVER AGAIN.

"The LORD comforts His people and will have compassion on His afflicted ones."
(Isaiah 49:13)

Stunning Symbol of Jesus Discovered in "Magnificent" 1,500-Year-Old
Israeli Church

The location of the church, near what was once a busy road, suggests it was an important gathering place for the Christian communities and perhaps the major church serving the region.

Excavations prior to the construction of a new neighborhood in Israel have turned up the ruins of a 1,500-year-old Christian church with a beautiful mosaic.

Archaeologists found the Byzantine-era church in Aluma, a town 30 miles south of Tel Aviv, according to a press release from the Israel Antiquities Authority. The IAA has spent the past three months carefully excavating the site, Haaretz notes.

. . . Experts were particularly excited about the site's tile artwork, which included depictions of animals, geometric and botanical designs, and Christian symbols.

Churches from this era did not work crosses into floor mosaics in order to prevent people from stepping on the symbol for Jesus Christ, excavator Davida Eisenberg Degen told LiveScience. However, Degen said researchers found a beautiful mosaic centering around a Christogram, a "type of monogram of the name of Jesus."

The location of the church, near what was once a busy road, suggests it was an important gathering place for the Christian communities of several different villages, according to the IAA.

"We found several other settlements, including a large one near Hamei Yoav, but we did not find a church," Saar Ganor, the Antiquities Authority's Ashkelon district archaeologist, said according to Haaretz. "This is evidently the major church of the region."

In an effort to preserve the church and the many cultural artifacts found in and around the building, the IAA plans to cover the site and remove the main mosaic so that it can be placed in a regional museum or visitors' center.
