The Daily Brief
1. Syria protests: Banias fear amid Deraa pullout reports - BBC
Syrian activists are preparing to take to the streets on Friday for what they are calling a "day of defiance".
- Father, we know from Sen. Lieberman that the situation in Syria is alarming with an escalation over the past two weeks that could culminate in a massive crackdown on protestors that "would entail loss of life on a massive scale, and it could usher in a period of sectarian fighting with devastating consequences for Syria" that could also "destabilize its neighbors." Father, neither side's efforts seem to be "working." We ask you to work in this situation on both sides. Exalt righteousness and justice in that nation. May they not destabilize their neighbors, but glorify you before all their neighbors and so that all the earth may know that You are God.
- "Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power." (Psalm 21:13)
2. EU wins super-observer status at UN - UK Telegraph
The European Union on Tuesday secured super-observer status at the United Nations after overcoming objections from small states that they could see their influence eroded.
- Father, it's not hard to look at news like this and understand the times that are unfolding before us, and how the end-times prophetic picture is becoming clearer. We pray for both Europe and the smaller states, and we ask for justice for them, and your righteousness through belief in Jesus Christ for their people. Maximize the spreading of your word and the name of your Son in these last days.
- "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son." (Hebrews 1:1-2)
3. U.S. drone strike in Yemen is first since 2002 - Washington Post
The U.S. military used a drone to strike Thursday at an al-Qaeda target in Yemen, the first such U.S. attack using unmanned aircraft in that country since 2002, according to U.S. and Yemeni officials.
- Father, we thank you for weapons of warfare that can minimize the risk, and maximize the potential of thwarting those who would ultimately oppose your work. We ask you to break the back altogether of al-Qaeda and bring many of those men to yourself. Create a Bible Belt in the Middle East for your glory.
- "They were hearing only, 'He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.' And they glorified God in me." (Galatians 1:23-24)
4. Al Qaeda plotted 9/11 anniversary rail attack: U.S. - Reuters
Al Qaeda considered attacking the U.S. rail sector on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, U.S. government officials said on Thursday in describing intelligence from Osama bin Laden's hide-out in Pakistan.
- Father, we thank you for exposing the plans of the enemy. We know that while our rail system has been around for 150 years, we greatly depend on it today. We thank you for protecting the safety of our passengers, and our cities and towns from attacks on the hazardous materials moved around every day on our rail systems. We ask for continued protection of those workers, and to give them a sense of purpose in their work honoring and glorifying you.
- "You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth." (Deuteronomy 8:18)
5. Top Secret Stealth Helicopter Program Revealed in Osama Bin Laden Raid: Experts - ABC News
Before an elite team of U.S. Navy SEALs executed a daring raid that took down Osama bin Laden, the commandos were able to silently sneak up on their elusive target thanks to what aviation analysts said were top secret, never-before-seen stealth-modified helicopters.
- Father, we thank you again for the news that began this week. You have given us much cause for gratitude, and we are grateful. We thank you for those who accomplished the mission and all the others who made it possible. We ask you to be with those working on future missions, and those developing technologies to help them on their way.
- "I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah." (Psalm 61:4)
6. Unemployment Applications Hit 8-Month High - Fox News
The number of people applying for unemployment benefits surged last week to the highest level in eight months, a troubling sign a day ahead of the government's report on April employment.
- Father, we thank you for a nation 311.3 million strong. We know that each of these people are made in your image and are ready to create, thrive and be productive. Give our people a vision for their purpose in You in their work. Raise up new ideas, new energy, and a new will to work for your glory in whatever they do.
- "Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24)
7. Mississippi floods force evacuations near Memphis - Reuters
The rising Mississippi river lapped over downtown Memphis streets on Thursday as a massive wall of water threatened to unleash near record flooding all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
- Father, the weather this Spring has been the most active in recent memory with significant activity in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, North Carolina, Texas, and across those regions. We pray for those who are in the midst of this destruction. Protect their property and their lives. Give them a new beginning.
- When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned. Nor shall the flame scorch you." (Isaiah 43:2)

Which story do you believe?--bin Laden accountability
There are so many stories out there about the killing of Osama bin Laden that it is difficult to know what to believe. First, the story that there was a 40 minute firefight with bin Laden's protectors putting up resistance and bin Laden hiding behind one of his wives to keep from getting shot. Then there was the story that there was no resistance and that he didn't hide behind his wife, but rather another woman. Then there was the story that there was no resistance except for several women who were getting in the way of the SEALS when they were searching the compound for bin Laden. And now the story that only one guy had a gun and resisted.
To a casual observer, a conclusion could be made that events were happening so fast and furious once the SEALS entered the compound that stories from different viewpoints abound. All these things could have happened. But the strangeness comes in when these are elements of the story that have been released a day at a time since the White House announcement that bin Laden had been assassinated. And the stories are coming from the same source: the White House and its Administration. And since the event, there have been repeated stories about photos being released and photos bought by news agencies, but the White House has refused to date to release the ones they have.
On May 2, there was a photo released by the White House that shows the president along with 14 members of his staff watching the SEAL Team 6 attack on the bin Laden compound. One can see the intensity in their eyes in the anxious moment that the photo was taken. The president is leaning forward eyes intent on the screen. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's right hand is covering her mouth as her eyes are focused on the drama. Vice President Joe Biden's head is tilted and his facial expression tense. Others are standing with arms crossed or nearly at attention as they watch the drama unfold. How then, if these people were watching this event first hand, are there so many variations of stories?
Most likely bin Laden is dead. The details of how and when he was killed are obscured from the public unless the public chooses to believe the White House story. But which story should the public believe? There are as many stories as there are days since the alleged killing. At a time when the American public has been subjected to a doctrine found in the warning of 2 Timothy 3:13, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived," knowing what to believe is almost impossible. The truth appears to be a rolling target. The deeper problem is that our elected officials are making virtually no effort to hold this White House accountable. Will "We the People" do so?
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Texas House GOP Members Successfully Defund Planned Parenthood
$61 million in tax money diverted from abortion procedures and funneled to alternatives
AUSTIN - During the recent debate on the General Appropriations Act, several Republican Party members successfully defunded Planned Parenthood by $61 Million. These members' actions diverted tax money from abortion procedures and instead funneled the funds to worthwhile programs such as Alternatives to Abortion.
The Republican Party of Texas commends these members for their unwaivering commitment to life. Representatives Dwayne Bohac, Warren Chisum, Wayne Christian, Bryan Hughes, Jodie Laubenberg, Sid Miller, Jim Murphy, Charles Perry, Randy Weber, and Bill Zedler are all to be applauded for their cooperative efforts. This alliance of conservatives ensured that fewer taxpayer dollars go to abortion procedures.
RPT Chairman Steve Munisteri stated, "I am proud of the dedication to life issues demonstrated by these representatives. Taxpayers have let us know they do not want their money to go to abortion providers. These Republicans responded to that call. Throughout the budget process, the obvious focus was on balancing Texas' books and restricting government functions within Texas' means. These members additionally realized the number of unborn lives at stake, and acted effectively."
House Bill 1 is on its way to the Senate. After the Senate approves its own version of the budget, the two chambers will negotiate a final budget in conference committee. (Source: Republican Party of Texas)
