The Daily Brief - Tuesday, May 3, 2011

"I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand on the earth." (Job 19:25)

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." (Psalm 91:2)

The Daily Brief

1. 9/11 Mastermind Reportedly Warned of 'Nuclear Hellstorm' if Bin Laden Killed - Fox News

The self-proclaimed mastermind of the 9/1l terror plot told interrogators at Guantanamo Bay that Al Qaeda has a nuclear bomb somewhere in Europe and would detonate it if Usama bin Laden was ever captured or killed, The Daily Telegraph reported, citing WikiLeaks' cables. Khalid Sheikh Mohamed, one of the top prisoners at the facility, called the plan a "nuclear hellstorm."

The WikiLeaks cables about Guantanamo, obtained and detailed last month by several news organizations, illustrated how intelligence agencies employ information obtained by the 780 prisoners. Although some of the information is proved to be erroneous, still some appears to be actionable.

Separately, a prisoner described as the 20th 9/11 hijacker said the terror group is seeking to recruit staff at Heathrow Airport in London and plotted major chemical and biological attacks against the U.S.

• Lord, we pray against any attacks of retaliation from groups that are sympathetic toward bin Laden. We pray that there will be extra vigilance on everyone's part to catch anything that would be a threat in Europe. We pray that no group or nation will be able to use nuclear weapons. We bind those actions, in Jesus' name, Amen.

And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

2. Bin Laden's Death Could Inspire Attacks in US - NewsMax

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security are warning law enforcement across the country that Osama bin Laden's death will likely inspire homegrown extremists in the U.S. to try to carry out attacks in the near-term. The intelligence community has no information of advanced terror plots in the U.S., but believes U.S. cities, aviation, mass transit and U.S. government facilities will continue to be attractive targets for terrorists, according to the joint bulletin.

• Lord, we believe that you are our shield and protector. We pray that the enemies of our nation will be bound and confused so that they cannot succeed in their plans. We pray for churches and our leaders to call for prayer and fasting for our nation. We pray that a spirit of deception will not succeed over the nation.

Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, "Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?' (Joel 2:17)

3. Al Qaeda Records Seized During Raid on Compound - CBS News

The intelligence community is exploring information obtained during the raid on bin Laden's compound in an attempt to learn al Qaeda intentions and the identity and whereabouts of key al Qaeda players. The source said that core al Qaeda out of the Pakistani tribal areas is "still the most dangerous element out there, the most significant for a spectacular attack on the homeland." A top priority continues to be the dismantlement of al Qaeda's core. U.S. officials are turning their focus to the elimination of Ayman al-Zawahri, bin Laden's second in command, and other senior operative planners who pose a threat to western interests.

• Thank you Lord for this successful accomplishment to invade bin Laden's fortress and not only get him, but also get important sources of information. We pray that there will be much information gained from these sources so that we can defeat our enemies.

• Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory. (Psalms 98:1)

4. Bin Laden Killing Prompts Arab Anger, Relief - Reuters

Some Arabs mourned him as a holy warrior and martyr, while others saw him as a "pillar of evil" whose deadly attacks on the United States unleashed a backlash against Muslims across the world. For many Arabs, inspired by the popular upheavals of the past few months, the news of bin Laden's death had less significance than it once might have.

"The death of Osama is coming at a very interesting time. The perfect time, when al Qaeda is in eclipse and the sentiments of freedom are rising,"said Saudi commentator Jamal Khashoggi. Recalling the mass demonstrations in Cairo that toppled Egypt's president, he added: "The people at Tahrir Square had shut down the ideas and concepts of bin Laden."

• Lord, we pray that instead of causing the rebels and terrorists to regroup and be encouraged to keep battling, they will instead decide to work toward these freedoms and away from oppression by the jihadists. Change their hearts and minds.

• There is no remembrance of former things, Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come by those who will come after. (Ecclesiastes 1:11)

5. Treasury Will Act to Avoid Default - Wall Street Journal

If the debt limit hasn't been raised by May 16, the government will begin delaying payments into two government pension funds and redeeming Treasury securities in those funds. "Default by the United States on its obligations would have a catastrophic economic impact that would be felt by every American," Mr. Geithner wrote. At that point, he said, the government would stop or delay in such payments as military salaries, Social Security checks and tax refunds.

Democrats want to cap the deficits that the government can run up each year, which have now reached $1.5 trillion. Republicans fear a deficit cap would mean tax increases as Congress struggles to close its deficits, and they are pushing for a spending limit instead. "You can count on House Republicans saying that if Congress is going to raise the debt ceiling, there has to be considerable spending reforms attached to that," said Rep. Peter Roskam (R., Ill.).

• Lord, we pray for Your wisdom and discernment as to the best method to tackle our economic problems. We pray that all parties will not continue the over-spending, but that everyone will desire to cut the spending. Let them do this quickly and without any dissention.

• "I, Wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion . . . I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, Enduring riches and righteousness. (Proverbs 8:12, 18)

6. Levee Blasted Along Mississippi River to Spare Cairo, Ill. - USA Today

The Army Corps of Engineers blasted a large hole in an earthen levee along the Mississippi River on Monday night to divert rising floodwaters across Missouri farm fields to save the town of Cairo, Ill., from flooding. The diversion of water had been opposed in court by Missouri and by farmers and landowners who feared the floodwaters could damage their property, crops and livelihoods. The U.S. Supreme Court on Sunday refused Missouri's request to intervene and stop the blasts.

Farmer Bob Byrne, 59, called the diversion of water "devastating" for his 550 acres. "It's a sickening feeling," he said. "They're talking about not getting the water off until late July or early August. That knocks out a whole season." Extreme amounts of rain caused by a stagnant, persistent weather pattern have drenched much of the region over the past couple of weeks, said hydrologist Jim Noel of the Ohio River Forecast Center in Wilmington.

• Lord, with the fires in Texas and now the flooding in the mid-west, our people are greatly suffering. We pray for the restoration of everything the locust has stolen. We pray for the crops and the livestock that also have been harmed by these calamities. Restore our families, crops, and land, Oh Lord!

• "So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. (Joel 2:25)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto Your name give glory, for Your mercy, and for Your truth's sake. Why should the nations say, Where is their God? But our God is in the heavens. He has done whatever He has pleased." (Psalm 115:1-3)

1. World Bank to give Palestinians $10M - Ynet News

The World Bank said Thursday it would provide $10 million in aid to needy Palestinian families as a new unity deal between Fatah and Hamas raised questions about continued Western assistance.

2. IDF chief: Army ready to protect Jewish people - Ynet News

IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Benny Gantz said Sunday that the IDF is ready to meet any threat to Israel's safe future. Speaking at a ceremony on Holocaust Remembrance Day eve in Kibbutz Tel Yizhak, Gantz said: "In the land of the Jewish people, its safe haven, the IDF stands ready and willing to protect the people of all evil."

3. U.S. prods Israel over intended freeze of Palestinian tax money - Ha'aretz

Senior U.S. officials ask Israel to clarify Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz's statement indicating that Israel will withhold funds from the PA due to reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas; PM office says 'no decision has been reached in matter'.

The Daily Jot

The Great Conspiracy

The overwhelming response to the last Jot was that the news about bin Laden was unbelievable. In short, people do not believe this Administration. First, it was a four year journey to get Obama to release his birth certificate. Upon its release, forensic experts on the internet say it has been photoshopped--its a fake. Even with my limited knowledge of PDF files, I saw that something was wrong with it as it appeared to be built in layers. Then after nearly ten years, bin Laden is found and killed. The body being disposed of before the DNA tests are returned. I cannot tell you how many emails I have received from Daily Jot readers who believe the bin Laden death was staged.

The problem here is not whether bin Laden's death was staged. Neither is it that the birth certificate could be another forgery. The problem is that many Americans, many good Americans, many wonderful Christians, do not have confidence in their government, that an event such as the killing of the most wanted terrorist in the world would be considered some sort of conspiracy. Questions abound as to why was the body disposed of; why wasn't more care taken to bring him in alive; how is it that the most wanted man in the world gets away with living high in a mansion in Pakistan when there are so few of them? These questions all lead to a multitude of conspiracy theories.

I believe that the birth certificate, that the bin Laden death, that the run up on American debt and the destruction of our economy are most definitely the result of multiple conspiracies in that there is one conspirator who Jesus identified in John 10:10, "The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy." That thief and chief conspirator is none other than satan. His evil plans come to fruition through the evil in men's hearts. We need to take care to choose our leaders wisely. We need to make sure that we are choosing godly men and women to lead us. And we need to hold these people accountable according to the scriptures.

There are many people delighted that bin Laden is presumably dead. There are others who do not believe that he is dead. Still there are others who do not believe that bin Laden was behind the 911 attacks. And still others who believe America's own government staged 911 for some other conspiratorial reasons. Whatever you believe, this nation cannot survive, our people cannot survive, your family and heritage cannot survive if you as a Christian do not make a concerted and deliberate effort to do as Christ commanded. If we are not letting our light so shine before men, making disciples, keeping accountability among ourselves and our leaders, then the great conspirator wins. Focus my brothers and sisters, focus.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Christian Orphanage in Pakistan Introduces Innovative Way for People to Help Care for Orphaned Children

Jesus My Shelter (JMS) is a local Christian orphanage located in Toba Tek Singh, Pakistan.

Although the staff and facility aren't very large, the compassionate workers at JMS have been caring for orphaned children in their area for some six years now; providing shelter, food, life skills, education and Christian training as well as any needed medical care.

Recently, they've come up with a fun way for others to partner with them in caring for the 12 orphaned children (6 girls and 6 boys) currently residing at JMS-the "Joy Box."

Each Joy Box contains essentials for a child such as clothing, blanket, toiletries, and some school supplies, and also a toy, snack and a personal Bible.

In addition to taking care of their own orphaned children, JMS is also providing some assistance to another Christian orphanage which is struggling to continue helping the 44 orphans in their care.

Visit the new JMS website for more information on their work in Pakistan, as well as information about Joy Boxes-click on the source link provided. [Reported by: Aimee Herd, Breaking Christian News]
