THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

"I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end
He will stand on the earth." (Job 19:25)

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust." (Psalm 91:2)

The Daily Brief

1. Obama: I won't release bin Laden death photos - CBS News

In an interview with Steve Kroft for this Sunday's "60 Minutes" conducted today, President Obama said he won't release post-mortem images of Osama bin Laden taken to prove his death.

- Father, help our hearts to be right before you as we come to terms with the death of someone so evil. We ask for the families of those victims of this man's deeds, that You would grant them the closure without a need for gruesome photos.

- "Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles or is overthrown. Lest the Lord see it, and it be evil in His eyes and displease Him and He turn away His wrath from him [to expend it upon you, the worse offender.]" (Proverbs 24:17) Amplified version

2. Mississippi River 500 Year Flood - Fox Memphis

The Mississippi River continues to rise, so much so that its tributaries are starting to flow backwards. At Tom Lee Park, preps for Memphis in May continue knowing that the worst is still yet to come.

- Father, we plead Your mercy over our nation and its land. Rivers starting to flow backwards are a sign of extreme destruction. Lord, we ask from humble hearts for our nation. Without the land we have no food. Without Your mercy our people have no hope.

- "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none." (Ezekiel 22:30)

3. Treasury suggests $2 trillion debt cap raise: sources - Reuters

The Treasury has told lawmakers a roughly $2 trillion rise in the legal limit on federal debt would be needed to ensure the government can keep borrowing through the 2012 presidential election, sources with knowledge of the discussions said.

- Lord, we have prayed and hoped for fiscal wisdom in our leaders. We see no evidence of that wisdom as yet. You alone know the answer for our country's economic woes, so we ask that You intervene with Your solution to stop the runaway debt.

- "But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Lord, in the acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, hear me in the truth of Your salvation. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink." (Psalm 69:13,14a)

4. About 1 in 7 in U.S. Receive Food Stamps - Wall Street Journal

Growth in the food stamp program appeared to reach a plateau in February -- with 14.3% of the population relying on the safety net program.

- Lord, we pray that the people who are trapped in the entitlement system be granted faith and provision from Your hand. As the government's overwhelming size causes its decline, we ask that You arise across the nation as our very present help in trouble!

- "But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, 'You are my God.' My times are in Your hand." (Psalm 31:14,15a)

5. House Bans Federal Funds for Abortions - Fox News

The House of Representatives moved by a vote of 251-175 to further limit federal funds from being used to provide abortions Wednesday.

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act codifies into law the so-called "Hyde Amendment," which prohibits federal funds in appropriations bills from being spent on abortions. The bill goes further than Hyde by withholding health care tax credits for insurance plans that cover abortions. Under the health care law passed in 2010, low income families can receive tax breaks to help purchase private insurance.

- Lord while we rejoice at this step brought in the House, we are keenly aware that the Senate will be unlike to copy this vote, and the President will veto the measure even then. Lord, only a move of Your Holy Spirit in the hearts of our nation will stop us from the rampant shedding of innocent blood in our land. We ask that You tear down the altars to false gods and their practices throughout America, and bring righteousness!

- "Then Josiah took away all the shrines of the high places" (2 Kings 23:19a)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto Your name give glory, for Your mercy, and for Your truth's sake. Why should the nations say, Where is their God? But our God is in the heavens. He has done whatever He has pleased." (Psalm 115:1-3)

1. UK, France may back PA's bid for state - Ynet News

In a sign of Britain's impatience with Israel British Premier David Cameron told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Wednesday that Britain may endorse a unilateral declaration of state by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas if Israel declines to take part in substantive peace negotiations with the Palestinians to create a two state solution.

2. Cameron: Britain's support for Israel 'unshakable' - Jerusalem Post

British Prime Minister David Cameron pledged a commitment to Israeli security - but did not promise to reject the Fatah-Hamas unity deal - when he began his meeting Wednesday night with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

National Prayer Proclamation: No one true God

In recent weeks there have been a record number of tornados leaving death and destruction in their wake across the American landscape. Floods in the South are so harsh and deep that tributaries along the Mississippi River are flowing backwards. These are historic phenomena according to the experts, who have no real explanation other than the wrath of Mother Nature. It seems that she must be pretty angry, many of them joke. Unfortunately, its not a joke to lose all you have in a flood or tornado, including your life. In centuries past, when such things would occur, entire communities would come before the Lord and ask forgiveness and repent for the wrongs in their lives.

Nowadays, people just turn the channel, or go shopping, or blame global warming. There are severe problems that we face as Americans. But unlike our fathers before us, this generation is stiff necked enough to think it can explain these things away scientifically or mathematically, and in doing so believe they have understanding and that the problem is solved. Indeed, people perish due to lack of knowledge. But the knowledge they lack is more spiritual than of the sciences. And the time spent researching on the Internet to determine cause and effect can never replace the knowledge and understanding of a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe.

Today is National Day of Prayer. The presidential proclamation says, "Let us be thankful for the liberty that allows people of all faiths to worship or not worship according to the dictates of their conscience, and let us be thankful for the many other freedoms and blessings that we often take for granted." It goes on to "remember" those impacted by the natural disasters and the men and women serving in the armed forces. It concludes: "I invite all citizens of our Nation, as their own faith or conscience directs them, to join me in giving thanks for the many blessings we enjoy, and I ask all people of faith to join me in asking God for guidance, mercy, and protection for our Nation."

And herein lies one of the problems: Our own leader does not recognize that this is not about all faiths and some nebulous god that is a product of the "dictates of our conscience." There is only one true God . And if we as a nation are praying to false gods, we are not making the connection. Joshua 24:20 says, "If you forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good." We as a nation, must get back on track. As did Joshua of the ancient days, let the challenge go forth that in all you do this day be a witness for putting away strange gods and inclining hearts toward the one true God.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
