The Daily Brief - Tuesday, November 9, 2010

" . . . the ruler of this world has been judged. " (John 16:11)

The Daily Brief

1. Oklahoma's Ban on Shariah Law Blocked: Supporters Blame State Attorney General - Fox News

A popular new law that bars Oklahoma courts from considering Islamic law, or Shariah, when deciding cases was put on hold Monday after a prominent Muslim in the state won a temporary restraining order in federal court. Supporters of the Oklahoma ballot initiative, which passed with 70 percent of the vote, would not comment on the impact of the ruling. But state Sen. Anthony Sykes, who co-authored the measure, charged that the judge ruled as she did because the state's attorney general, Drew Edmondson, failed to respond to the suit.

Duncan and others who pushed for the measure argued that the ban "will constitute a pre-emptive strike against Shariah law coming to Oklahoma." He said England has embraced 85 Shariah law courts and warned voters that "while Oklahoma is still able to defend itself against this sort of hideous invasion, we should do so."

• Lord, we come to you for wisdom and discernment as to how to rule in this case. We are a Christian nation - and while we respect other religions - we want Judeo-Christianity, which was the original religion to be acknowledged as the basis for our laws.

Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If you return to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines." (1 Samuel 7:3)

2. US Issues New Security Rules for Air Cargo - NewsMax

The new rules are a direct response to the thwarted terror plot that could have taken down two cargo planes over the U.S. last month. Terrorists in Yemen had hidden two powerful bombs inside printers and shipped them to addresses in Chicago. Besides the bans, high risk cargo will no longer be allowed to fly on passenger planes, Napolitano said, without elaborating what constitutes high risk. Until now, the U.S. has required that high risk cargo be screened before it's loaded onto U.S.-bound passenger planes.

The new rules also include extra screening for all high risk cargo, which could include physically opening a package and inspecting it, explosive detection and X-rays, the official said. How a high risk package is screened will be left up to the company or the country, he said. Analysts warn that the cost of screening every piece of air cargo in a bid to prevent terrorists from downing airliners might bankrupt international shipping companies, hobble already weakened airlines, and still not provide full protection.

• Lord, it is difficult to be prepared for all the attacks that the terrorists have planned for us and our allies, but we pray that nothing will slide by us, and that all their plans will fail.

"The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways". (Deuteronomy 28:7)

3. Fed Global Backlash Grows - Wall Street Journal

Global controversy mounted over the Federal Reserve's decision to pump billions of dollars into the U.S. economy, with President Barack Obama defending the move as China, Russia and the euro zone added to a chorus of criticism. Germany's criticism echoes that from other countries, including Brazil and Japan, which have complained about potential spillover from the Fed's action. Printing more dollars, or cutting U.S. interest rates, tends to weaken the dollar and makes U.S. exports more attractive. The accompanying rise in the value of other countries' currencies tends to damp their exports and can fuel inflation or asset bubbles, as emerging-market officials note. U.S. officials maintain the Fed's action is about stimulating domestic demand, and that a weaker dollar is a consequence, not an objective.

• Lord, we know there are plans to intentionally devalue our monetary system, so our economy will fail. America is being made to look bad through these decisions. Remove from authority all who seek to destroy our nation in any way. Restore to us the joy of your salvation.

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God; enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him"; lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved. (Psalms 13:3, 4)

4. Obama Acknowledges Decline of US Dominance - Times of India

Implicitly acknowledging the decline of American dominance, Barack Obama on Sunday said the US was no longer in a position to "meet the rest of the world economically on our terms". Speaking at a town hall meeting in Mumbai, he said, "I do think that one of the challenges that we are going face in the US, at a time when we are still recovering from the financial crisis is, how do we respond to some of the challenges of globalization?

The fact of the matter is that for most of my lifetime and I'll turn 50 next year - the US was such an enormously dominant economic power, we were such a large market, our industry, our technology, our manufacturing was so significant that we always met the rest of the world economically on our terms. And now because of the incredible rise of India and China and Brazil and other countries, the US remains the largest economy and the largest market, but there is real competition."

• Lord, we acknowledge that without you, we would never have been a great nation. We pray that our time has not yet ended, and that we will have more time to do good in this world. Father, you raised us up, so that we could do good in this world. Let us never forget that!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. (Psalms 33:12)

5. Obama arrives in Indonesia, trip possibly shortened by volcano - AP

Obama has arrived in Indonesia, his home for four years as a youth. But he may have to cut the trip short because of concerns about volcanic ash being spewed by Mount Merapi . The president had already been scheduled to be in Indonesia for less than 24 hours. Spokesman Robert Gibbs says the White House is working on different scenarios for how he'll spend tomorrow morning, including starting his day of events earlier. It's hoped Obama can still deliver a speech to the Indonesian people. He had canceled two previously scheduled trips to Indonesia because of domestic events -- final talks on the health care bill and then the Gulf oil spill.

- Continue to pray for safety for all who are on this trip while they are in Indonesia - spiritual, physical and emotional safety. God is in control.

- The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. (Psalm 103:19) He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations- let not the rebellious rise up against him. (Psalm 66:7)

6. $14,300,000,000,000: Debt Limit Showdown Looming - ABC News

One member of the panel, retiring Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., said Thursday on ABC's "Top Line" that both parties need to heed the message sent by the voters in the midterm election. "The message is not confused and both sides of the aisle should have got the message and it's stop the spending, get the deficit under control, get this economy going," he said. That is why while election momentum might be on the side of Republicans, history is on the Democrats' side. No Congress has ever voted against approving an increase in the debt ceiling.

"Ultimately," Stan Collender predicted, "they're going to have to do it. Otherwise they'll throw the markets into turmoil and create all kinds of concerns overseas about the US economy and the US government. I get asked a lot at what point the US would turn into a third-world country. This wouldn't get us there, but it'd get us close."

• Lord, as we seek to take our nation back from the progressives' agenda, we pray that all our leaders as well as our nation realizes that it is by your hand that we succeed. Help us to turn our nation back to you and righteousness! Let the elected officials be strongly determined to turn our nation around.

He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. (Daniel 2:21 NIV)

7. Report: 6 Americans killed in 6 days in border Violence - ABC News

According to reports, over the past six days, six Americans have been killed in increasing border violence. According to various reports, there have been more than 2,000 murders this year in Juarez, which is across the border from El Paso. Similar reports show there have been more than 200 murders in Nogales, Mexico this year.

• Lord, we know that some of those who cross the border illegally are drug pushers, but there are also human traffickers and terrorist. We bind them, and we pray a Hedge of Protection around the innocent people who are in the path of violence. We pray for our borders to have national guards to protect the citizens. We pray peace in those violent areas.

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. (Psalms 91:3, 4)

8. The Food Crisis Of 2011 - Forbes

America's been blessed with year after year of "record harvests," depending on how you measure it. So when crisis hits elsewhere in the world, the burden of keeping the world fed falls on America's shoulders. But what happens if the U.S. scenario is worse than a "nonrecord" harvest? What if there's a Russia-scale crop failure here at home?

Farm commodity expert Don Coxe has studied the sector for more than 35 years as a strategist for BMO Financial Group. He says "We've got a situation where there has been no incentive to allocate significant new capital to agriculture or to develop new technologies to dramatically expand crop output. We've got complacency," he sums up. "So for those reasons, I believe the next food crisis - when it comes - will be a bigger shock than $150 oil."

• Lord, we pray there will be experts put into place to address this situation. We pray that we will not be taken off-guard, but that like Joseph, we will be ready for any crisis that comes up in our nation.

This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine." (Genesis 41:36)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jer. 29:11)

1. Netanyahu: Nuclear-armed Iran is the greatest danger facing Israel - Ha'aretz

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told American Jewish community leaders in New Orleans on Monday that Iran's nuclear ambitions posed the greatest threat to Israel and the world, and that Tehran would only halt its aspirations for atomic weapons if it believed that it faced a real possibility of military action.

"The greatest danger facing Israel and the world is the prospect of a nuclear armed Iran. Iran threatens to annihilate Israel, it denies the Holocaust, it sponsors terror in South America and Afghanistan and Iraq," Netanyahu said Monday. "This is what Iran is doing without nuclear weapons, imagine what it would do with them. Imagine the devastation its terror proxies, Hezbollah and Hamas and others, would wreak under an Iranian nuclear umbrella."

• Lord, we pray that you will confound the wicked plans of Israel's enemies. Let there be a supernatural event happen to their weapons by your hand that sets them back for decades. Let there be multitudes of computer viruses to shut down all their weapons. We declare to them calamities and confusion in their camp. May the fear of God come upon them.

And he said: "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. (2 Samuel 22:2, 3)

2. US 'disappointed' by plans for 1,345 east J'lem homes - Jerusalem Post

The United States is "deeply disappointed" that Israel has advanced plans to build 1,345 homes in "sensitive areas" of east Jerusalem, the State Department spokesman said on Monday.

3. Netanyahu faces embarrassment in U.S. over new Jerusalem building plan - Ha'aretz

New embarrassment threatened to cast a cloud over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's latest U.S. trip Monday as Israeli authorities approved construction of over 1,000 Jewish homes beyond the Green Line in Jerusalem.

4. Hamas slams German foreign minister's refusal to meet - Ha'aretz

The Hamas administration in the Gaza on Monday slammed as "insulting" the refusal by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle to meet it while visiting the strip.

5. Ayalon: Final status peace agreement is not likely - Jerusalem Post

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon on Saturday declared it was time for Israel to write off attempts to reach a final-status peace agreement with the Palestinians, rather it should seek a long-term interim agreement.

Hyperinflation Ahead: Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness

Of all the Jots I have written in the past eight years, this one is very important. You must know in your heart of hearts and with all your being that the Lord loves you and will care for you. Jesus promised that if you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, you will be fed, clothed, and nourished. TV preachers and the false prophets of the times continue to twist the scripture to deceive all who would hear into believing this is about prosperity--gold watches, fancy cars, big homes, that inheritance from the relative you didn't know about--it is really about God's love for you and his promise that your needs will be met if you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.

Hear this: tough times are on the near horizon. The one world order socialists have succeeded in putting our nation in such debt that we may not survive it. Just last week, the unconstitutional Federal Reserve devalued the dollar by about 20%. China, who holds nearly a trillion dollars of US debt, said the move could bring "catastrophic influence on the world." The way to usher in the one world order is to destroy the economy of the only country in the world that stands in the breech against the antichrist--America. And this government has force fed an economic poison pill to our nation. As a result, there will be hyperinflation on food, energy, and housing while the job market declines.

The National Inflation Association says the government policy of printing more money in the past 60 days has caused commodity prices to rise: cotton 54%, corn 29%, sugar 51% and gold prices have reached record levels of over $1,400 an ounce. The NIA says "the agricultural commodity price increases of the past two months will begin to make their way into all supermarkets nationwide during the next few months." You can see that food, clothing and other essentials are exponentially rising faster than economic growth, which is around 2%. It is important that you discern the times ahead. Do not fear. Be prepared. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Know God and draw close to him.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Rescued Miner Joins Evangelist Luis Palau and Son Andrew for Historic Campaign in Chile

National festival reaches 145,000 people, including President Sebastian Piñera

(Santiago, Chile)-In a nation marked by tragedy and suffering in the past several months, Chile Festival 2010 with world evangelists Luis Palau and son Andrew Palau brought encouragement and hope to the region [at the end of October]. The festival, which took place in Santiago and Viña del Mar, reached more than 145,000 people through live events and millions more through media broadcasts.

Unique to the initiative was the participation of rescued miner Jose Henriquez, who had requested Biblical audio messages from Palau while trapped in the mine. Known by many as "the pastor" and the spiritual leader while in the mine, Henriquez was the 24th of 33 miners to be rescued from 2,300 feet below the earth's surface.

Henriquez shared his testimony at the major festival in Santiago (population 7 million) on Friday night, October 29. Speaking to tens of thousands of people who had come to the Plaza Italia to hear Palau, Henriquez's story clearly made an impact on those in attendance, helping lead thousands in public commitments to Jesus Christ. Henriquez reported that during the 69-day ordeal 22 of the 33 miners prayed to surrender to Jesus Christ. He commented in a private gathering with Palau, "I do hope they will follow through and walk with Christ for life."

. . . During his time in Chile, the evangelist, who was accompanied by his son Andrew, also spent 30 minutes with President Sebastian Piñera. They discussed several serious topics during their meeting, including the importance of public officials recognizing God in their statements and speeches. Palau pointed out the promise made by God in the Bible, "Those who honor me I will honor."

The evangelist also shared the Biblical story of the prodigal son with President Piñera-a picture similar to that of the president welcoming the miners one by one during their rescue operation. "I don't believe it's sacrilegious," said Palau, "to say that during that operation you were a picture of God the Father welcoming those who repent and believe in Jesus Christ, whom He welcomes one by one."
