The Daily Brief

1. Republicans Win House Majority, Make Senate Gains in Wave Election - Fox News

Riding a wave of voter frustration over the economy and the federal government itself, the Republican Party sailed into the majority in the House of Representatives Tuesday with victories projected to be on a scale not seen since the end of the New Deal.

- God, we ask that Your power and guidance will follow these victories, and there be a holding to the truth and honesty as these elected officials stand tall and firm to establish a solid foundation on which the United States will once again stand as they take their position and go forward with tenacity and vision. In Jesus Name.

We pray, too, for the new leadership team now being set in place in Congress. May they be led by Your hand, every step of the way.

- " will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you." (Psalm 32:8)

2. As Races End, Tea Party Plans for Next Phase - Wall Street Journal

Tea-party leaders, cheering as some of their movement's most prominent figures won U.S. Senate seats in Kentucky and Florida, said Tuesday's elections were only the beginning of their quest to transform government.

- God, we ask that this transformation be guided by Your hand, and there be godly wisdom and knowledge that will pull everything together for the good of America and our people. In Jesus Name.

-"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance." (Psalm 33:12)

3. Calif. rejects legalizing pot; Colo., Mass. nix anti-tax - USA Today

A controversial proposal to legalize and tax marijuana was rejected by California voters.

- God, we thank you for the result of this vote and bless the people of California for holding steady and voting for morality. In Jesus Name.

- "For God's mercy is great unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens: let Your glory be above all the earth." (Psalm 57:10-11)

4. Reid Wins in Nevada, Dashing GOP Hopes of Capturing Senate - Fox News

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid won a tough re-election fight on Tuesday in a race that proved extra-sweet for him and his party, as it enabled Democrats to block a potential Republican takeover of the U.S. Senate and allowed the majority leader to keep his post.

- God, we pray for the presence of the Lord to be around the U.S. Senate, and that You take control of every word spoken. May the angels oversee all their intended goals, and block any and all things that would work against the good welfare of the American people. Hold back the forces of darkness by the blood of Jesus and may every knee in the Senate bow to the rulership of the Lord God from this day forward. In Jesus Name.

- "Bless the Lord all His angels; that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of God's word." (Psalm 108:20)

5. Murkowski Has Slim Lead in Alaska - Wall Street Journal

The winner of Alaska's Senate race might not be known for weeks, as election officials wrestle with complications created by incumbent Lisa Murkowski's write-in effort as well as thousands of absentee ballots, but with more than half of the state's precincts counted Tuesday night, Ms. Murkowski appeared to have close to a five-point lead.

- Father, we ask that this race be guided and maintained by the mighty hand of God and You choose the winner of this race. We declare that only Your perfect will prevails and there be no tampering with the votes, but that it be clean and honest. In Jesus Name.

- "For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:14)

6. New Members Make Plans to Move In -- CHPP

[Submitted by the wife of a member of Congress]

I would ask your prayers for all of the new members who were just elected. I will participate in Spouse Orientation November 17. That week each new member and their spouse will be in Washington. They will be hiring staff, deciding where to live in Washington, setting up offices. They will have many decisions. Please pray for me and the other spouses involved to be able to come alongside and help each family with this adjustment.

And also please pray today for all of the candidates who lost. We have had those elections where we have lost. It is difficult.

- Please pray in agreement with this spouse's prayer requests. We have a God who hears and who answers. May each new member be led by His wisdom in all the decisions that are before them now; and may those who have lost seats find comfort and healing in the knowlege of our Savior.

- For new members: James 1:5

For those who have lost seats: Romans 8:28

7. Blasts Kill 76, Injure Hundreds Across Baghdad - Fox News

Rapid-fire bombings and mortar strikes killed 76 people and wounded more than 200 across Baghdad's myriad neighborhoods Tuesday, demonstrating the insurgents' ability to carry out coordinated strikes from one side of the capital to the other.

- My Father, destroy all the insurgents who have shed more blood in Baghdad. Let the enemy perish at Your rebuke, O Lord. Rebuke the company of the spearmen and the multitude of terrorists who continually kill and fill Iraq with death and sorrow. Rise up, O Lord, and save the souls of the people of Iraq. Visit Baghdad with Your presence that men fall before You in repentance. In Jesus Name.

"Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I." (Psalm 142:6)

8. Indonesian Volcano Erupts Powerfully; Quake Hits - AP

MOUNT MERAPI, Indonesia-- Indonesia's deadly volcano erupted Wednesday with its biggest blast yet, shooting searing ash miles into the sky and forcing the hasty evacuations of panicked villagers and emergency shelters near the base.

- Father, may these people suddenly become aware that there is a God in heaven who is over the world and every volcanic eruption. May they fall on their faces before the Lord God and repent of their sins so that they might be saved from this massive destruction. May they lift up the holy name of Jesus and they will be helped and delivered. May they hold onto the hand of Jesus. In Jesus Name.

- "And there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places." (Matthew 24:7)

9. Flooding at Iceland Volcano Could Signal Eruption - AP

Torrents of water are pouring from a glacier that sits atop Iceland's most active volcano, an indication that the mountain is growing hotter and may be about to erupt, scientists said Monday. There are no signs yet of the underground tremors that would signal an eruption at Grimsvotn, Icelandic Meteorological Office geophysicist Gunnar Gudmundsson said. In April, millions of air travelers around the world were grounded when ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokul volcano led most northern European countries to close airspace for five days.

- Lord God, we call forth dreams and visions of Jesus so that the Icelanders will turn their hearts to You. Catastrophic signs are upon us and we ask that You rescue their souls from destruction. God, speak to this volcano to be still and not erupt. Call forth a people out of Iceland who will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. In Jesus Name.

- "That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved." Romans 10:9

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom you have made strong for Yourself." (Psalms 80:17)

1. IDF intelligence chief: Israel's next war will see heavy casualties - Ha'aretz

In farewell meeting at the Knesset, Gen. Amos Yadlin says next conflict will hit Israel far harder than recent wars in Lebanon and Gaza - and hints for first the time at Israeli involvement in a 2007 strike on a nuclear plant in Syria.

2. MI chief: Next conflict will be bigger, broader, deadlier - Jerusalem Post

Outgoing head of Military Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Amos Yadlin may have initially waxed sentimental on Tuesday during his final appearance before the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, but the MI head later gave a stark warning regarding Iran's nuclear program, and painted a grim portrait of what Israel's next war could look like.

3. Lebanon sources: Hezbollah planning coup if charged in Hariri murder - Ha'aretz

Hezbollah is planning to seize control of the Lebanese government if charged by International Court of Justice over the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, security sources in Lebanon said on Tuesday.

- Father, may the guilty be brought before the judge and sentenced with righteous judgment to reap what they have sowed. Send forth an army of warring angels to fight against Hezbollah that they cannot seize control of the Lebanese government. Protect the innocent. May Lebanon see the hand of the Lord in all of this and they give honor to the God of heaven. In Jesus Name.

- "For God shall give His angels charge over them, to keep them in all His ways." (Psalm 91:11)

4. Execution of Iranian Pastor Delayed - Worthy News

The execution of an Iranian pastor sentenced to death for apostasy from Islam has been delayed.

- Father, we call forth warring angels to come and fight this battle. Defeat the forces of darkness. Defeat the threats of death by the blood of Jesus and break the bars of iron that they turn to clay and are unable to hold him captive. Set him free. In Jesus Name.

- "For God has delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living." (Psalm 116:8,9)

5. Israel joins other countries in screening air cargo - ICEJ News

In response to the discovery of a number of sophisticated bombs found onboard cargo airliners from Yemen to the United States, the Israeli Airport Authority has stepped up their security measures at Ben-Gurion Airport. One security official involved with planning airport security in Israel said: "We check and review ourselves after every incident that takes place around the world; we drill ourselves based on what we learn and sometimes make changes. It is possible that our stringent security measures create a deterrent which prevents terrorists from trying anything, this does not mean that we are the best in security, and we always need to keep working to ensure our level of security."

The prophetic Christian role in our new government

There is going to be a lot of spin put on the overwhelming victories by Republicans in the November elections. One thing for certain: this is a historic rejection of the leftist Democratic socialist agenda. Unfortunately, it may be too late for America. She has been gutted by the uncontrolled spending of the menagerie of communists, socialists, anarchists, and Mohammedists that sought to destroy this country. Economically, our nation is depleted. The dollar is in decline and the current Administration has all but surrendered the nation and its exceptional-ism to China, the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations without so much as a protest.

When all the smoke clears from this election, Republicans are being handed a dying fish whose odor has been ripening since George W. Bush's first round of government bailouts and the current president's exponential one-up-man-ship. The first order of business for the American people was to throw out as many of these scoundrels as possible with a clear message: We want our country back. We reject socialism. We reject multinational-ism. We reject Islamic colonization. We reject the same sex marriage agenda. We reject the emasculation of our Constitution. Even though the message is loud and clear, certain Americans let politicians remain in office who created the mess--Reid, Pelosi, Frank--to name a few.

The question going forward is: Will this new crop of politicians have the intestinal fortitude to root out, reverse, or destroy every possible remaining smear on our national interest of this 2008 socialist coup, or are they window dressing for the one world agenda? My guess is that the American people cannot afford a sigh of relief and leave it up to the Republicans to do the right thing. They likely will not without tremendous pressure from the electorate. Already, establishment Republican John Boehner of Ohio is seeking to get his "common ground" grip around the Speaker's podium. The American people do not want the Republicans working with Democrats, they want a reversal of the Democratic agenda.

This is no time for compromise. We must find creative ways to undo what has been done to toss our nation into the heap of the third world by these ungodly traitors that have been running our government. Food and energy prices are going to rise sharply. We will be thrown into an economic position such as has not been experienced for generations. But we are Americans. And Christians must play a major role. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." We must step into our prophetic destiny as salt and light. Let your light shine. Be salt of the earth by holding these rulers accountable. Stand fast.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

A Word of Caution

We rejoice with all of our partners today at the results of yesterday's election.

The American people have spoken, and a mandate has now been handed to the federal government, demanding change for the good of the people.

Even as we pray for the new members of the House and the Senate who will soon be coming to Washington, we remember those who have lost their seats -- their positions of earthly authority. Please pray for each one in your own state who will not be returning, for our God is working a work in each of their hearts, too.

The LORD has given us a clear word of instruction in His Word, as we "triumph" over our enemies. Let us read, pray and take heed, because it is written:

- "Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles: lest the Lord see it, and it displease Him, and He turns away His wrath from him." (Proverbs 24:17-18)

Huge Night For Conservatives

We will send you a complete report later in the day, but the bottom line is that in spite of some notable disappointments, this has been a historic election for those of us who believe in conservative values. We will see whether the president gets the message. I doubt it.

• The GOP made historic House gains - picking up 60 seats with several races still unresolved.

• We fell short in the Senate, but it was not that long ago that we only had 40 senators. Now it's 46 with three undecided - Alaska, Colorado and Washington.

• We had a huge victory in Iowa - defeating all three pro-same sex "marriage" Supreme Court justices.

• Under the radar - The changes in the legislatures of key states are almost too good to be true. This will impact future congressional elections through the redistricting process. (Gary Bauer)

Oklahoma Votes "No" on Sharia Law

Largely unnoticed amid last night's story of the Republicans winning back the U.S. House and making significant gains in the Senate was the Oklahoma vote on State Question 755.

SQ 755 was a state constitutional amendment that will prohibit Oklahoma courts from using sharia law in deciding cases. It passed overwhelmingly last night with 70% support!

But this outcome was by no means a foregone conclusion. On October 7th, a poll was released with these results on SQ 755: 45% in favor, 25% opposed, 30% undecided.

Two major newspapers editorialized against it. The CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) affiliate in Oklahoma spoke out repeatedly against it in the media with its shop-worn "Islamophobia" propaganda.

We here at ACT! for America surmised that the high undecided percentage reflected voter misunderstanding of the issue AND confusion as to which way to vote on the initiative. And when voters are confused on a ballot initiative like this, they tend to either not vote on it or vote against it.
On October 18th ACT! for America launched a two-week statewide radio ad in support of SQ 755. Then, on October 21st, 26th, and November 1st we dropped a total of 600,000 automated calls to Oklahoma voters with a message urging support of SQ 755 from James Woolsey, former director of the CIA.

Additionally, we placed an editorial in one of the state's major newspapers, sent multiple emails to our members, and conducted several radio and print media interviews.

The 70% support demonstrates that our efforts to educate the voters and clear up any confusion were immensely successful.

This 70% victory was significant because this was the first time voters had a chance to vote in a statewide election on the issue of sharia law. The overwhelming margin sends an unequivocal message to Islamic organizations and Muslims, such as Ground Zero Mosque Imam Rauf, who advocate sharia law for America-sharia law is not welcome here!

A Post-Election Analysis

The "Power of the Gavel" changes in Washington

A Post-Election Analysis by Guy Rodgers,
Executive Director, ACT! for America

As for the other election results, from the ACT! for America perspective the most important consequence is that "the power of the gavel" will switch in the U.S. House of Representatives.

By this I mean key committees, such as the Homeland Security Committee, will likely be chaired by Members of Congress who truly understand the threat radical Islam poses to our national security and who will have a different list of priorities regarding what bills to consider and hearings to hold.
The legislative calendar, controlled by the Speaker of the House, will also reflect different priorities regarding what bills to bring to a vote before the full House.

This is a MAJOR step forward in our legislative efforts on Capitol Hill. Bills we supported this year that didn't even get a committee hearing will receive the serious and thoughtful consideration they deserve. Prospects for House passage during the next two years of some of our legislative priorities have improved dramatically as a result of last night's election results.

Without question, most voters were making their decisions based on concerns about the economy, jobs, federal spending and ballooning deficits, and what became known as "ObamaCare."

But as exits polls I saw revealed, voter concerns about national security were lurking just beneath the surface. Americans are aware of the increase in homegrown jihadism and there is a growing consciousness about the threat of sharia law.

These election results not only bode well for progress in the Congress on our legislative agenda, they also bode well for increased pressure on the Obama administration to adjust the way it is defining and addressing the threat of radical Islam.

URGENT: CHURCHES ATTACKED IN ISRAEL AND IRAQ

As I prepare to speak at church events this week in Texas, I am deeply saddened by tragic events in the epicenter. My colleagues and I are calling on followers of Jesus Christ around the world to pray urgently for our brothers and sisters in the Middle East.

In recent days, churches in Israel and Iraq have been attacked by terrorists.

* The seige of a church in Baghdad by radical Islamic terrorists leaving at least 58 dead and 67 injured received significant international media coverage. The New York Times called it "the worst massacre of Iraqi Christians since the war began here in 2003."

* But the firebombing of an Arab Christian church in Jerusalem has received almost no media coverage. On The Joshua Fund website (www.joshuafund.net), we have an exclusive report from the pastor of the church in Jerusalem that was attacked.

Clearly, our brothers and sisters in both places need us to intercede on their behalf, and to mobilize others believers to pray for them and to stand with them in their time of need. This is a key mission of The Joshua Fund, mobilizing Christians to bless Israel and her neighbors in the name of Jesus, according to Genesis 12:1-3. Please join with us in prayer at this critical moment. And please urge other Christians you know to pray as well.
