The Daily Brief - Wednesday, October 24, 2007

"For I am God, and there is no other . . . My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure." (Isaiah 46:9,10)

1. Hundreds Of Thousands Flee California Wildfires - AFP, KNBC-TV, San Francisco Chronicle

Hundreds of thousands of people fled as out-of-control wildfires, now in their fourth day, raged across California threatening more homes and stretching emergency services to their breaking point. Orange County Fire officials are now stating that the 20,000-acre Orange County Santiago fire was purposely set after finding three separate "points of origin," and are thinking that other fires may have been deliberately set. According to estimates, almost 1 million southern Californians have been displaced in the biggest evacuation in state history as a result of at least 16 simultaneous wildfires. It is estimated that the fires have destroyed 1,600 homes in what has become the largest evacuation in state history.

President George W. Bush on Wednesday declared Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties major disaster areas, clearing the way for federal aid for victims of the wildfires. Bush, who mobilized the federal disaster relief establishment Tuesday, has scheduled a visit to California Thursday. It is estimated that insurance disaster claims could reach $500 Million.

· Dear Lord, only You know why these fires began on Sunday morning, and why they continue in their rampage of these seven counties in California. May the elected officials and the people who elect them; who insist on dashing Your Judeo-Christian principles in California and throughout our nation, stop and reconsider their ways because of these seemingly unstoppable fires. May Your mercy prevail to those who do honor You, and may many be saved both spiritually and physically by this catastrophe! May Your rain fall on the just and the unjust.

· "But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart; they have revolted and departed. They do not say in their heart, 'Let us now fear the Lord our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season. He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.' Your iniquities have turned these things away, and your sins have withheld good from you." (Jeremiah 5: 23-25 NKJV)

2. Senate Confirms Judge Leslie Southwick to Federal Appeals Court - Fox News and VAT

The Senate today confirmed Judge Leslie Southwick to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in a 59-38 vote. Southwick, a law professor, judge and Iraq war veteran, was nominated by Bush in January to serve on the federal appeals court, which serves Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. His confirmation was sealed after minority Republicans overpowered a proposed filibuster and objections by Democrats who said he wasn't sensitive enough to the history of race relations in the region.

Southwick has been rated by the American Bar Association as "Well-Qualified," which is the ABA's highest rating. He previously served as a deputy assistant attorney general with the U.S. Department of Justice. In 2004, the Mississippi State Bar honored Judge Southwick with its Judicial Excellence Award.

U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee said: "Judge Southwick has an outstanding judicial record, a proven commitment to public service, and a remarkable dedication to his country. "I know that Judge Southwick will be a great addition to the federal appellate bench."

· Thank You Lord, for righteous leaders and judges. Thank You for delivering the confirming vote for a judicial nomination held in limbo, and freeing up the justice system for Your glory in the states of Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas! May Justice Southwick give You all the glory.

· "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, 'Now I will arise,' says the Lord; 'I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.' '(Psalm 12: 5 NKJV)

3. Bobby Jindal Elected Louisiana Governor - CNSNews.com

Republican Rep. Bobby Jindal, a pro-life, pro-gun, anti-tax Rhodes scholar, won a landslide victory to become governor of Louisiana on Saturday. An Indian-American, he is the first person of color to be elected governor of Louisiana since Reconstruction. "Today, we begin a new chapter in the history of Louisiana," Jindal said in his victory speech. He promised to root out "corruption" and "incompetence," and he said he'd be the kind of governor "who travels the state relentlessly" in an effort to turn things around.

· We thank You, Lord for allowing this humble public servant, Bobby Jindal; who loves You with all of his heart, the second opportunity to run for governor of Louisiana, and win! May his tenure be a blessing to this state and to our nation; and be the continuation of Your revival throughout our land!

· "He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly; to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8 NKJV)

4. Will President Bush Veto "ENDA" In The Workplace? - CBN News

Do Americans have the right to exercise their moral judgment and their religious discernment when hiring? Not if the Employment Non-Discrimination Act becomes law, which would make it illegal for businesses to refuse employment to people because of their homosexual, bisexual or transsexual lifestyles. The bill would also affect pay and promotion practices by those who employ homosexuals.

· We offer up fervent prayer to You, Lord, for the stopping of this perverse legislation and any like it, or related to it in the future. May those judges, officials and citizens who support homosexual equality and other sins be enlightened by You to change their positions and seek Your Face in all of their legislative, business and personal endeavors. May the spirit of homosexuality be defeated, and may You have mercy on all involved with ENDA and homosexuality.

· "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God." (1Corinthians 6:9 NKJV)

5. Laura Bush Launches Saudi Breast Cancer Center, Meets Breast Cancer Survivors - Associated Press

First Lady Laura Bush helped launch a screening facility in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday as part of a U.S.-Saudi initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in the kingdom where doctors struggle to break long-held taboos about cancer. Today, Mrs. Bush met with breast cancer survivors in the western seaport of Jiddah. As a token of appreciation, they presented her with a long black scarf -- the kind Saudi women use to cover their hair in public -- with pink ribbons symbolizing the disease attached to both ends.

Breast cancer is the No. 1 killer of women in the United Arab Emirates, according to official statistics, with many dying because the stigma surrounding the disease prevents early detection and treatment. But many Saudis, like other Arabs, won't even refer to cancer by name, calling it just "that disease." Some families are afraid no one will marry their daughters if a mother's cancer becomes known. Others object to male doctors examining women for the illness. "No campaigns, ads or programs would have had the kind of impact that Laura Bush's trip has given to breast cancer awareness in the kingdom," said Samia al-Amoudi, a gynecologist who was diagnosed with the disease in 2006.

· Gracious Jehovah Rapha, the Lord Who Heals, we humbly ask You to bless Laura Bush and provide her safe passage as she travels throughout Saudi Arabia promoting awareness of breast cancer to help physically oppressed Middle Eastern women. May many be saved both physically and spiritually for Your glory and for Your plans to establish Your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. And, may our first lady and her family not be deceived by false religions, but cling to You, the One and True God.

· "Blessings are on the head of the righteous." (Proverbs 10: 6a NKJV))

VOTE ON ENDA SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY

President Bush Promises a Veto; Congress Has Enough Votes to Override

On Thursday, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) comes up for a vote in the House and the Democratic Leadership is continuing to use smoke and mirrors to mask just how dangerous this bill is. The Democrats' first action will be to try to reinsert protections for "sexual identity" - men who like to dress and act as women and women who like to dress and act as men. Additionally a vote is expected on Rep. George Miller's (D-Cal.) deceptive "religious exceptions" amendment. Mr. Miller's amendment seeks to protect certain educational institutions but is so deceptively written very few educational facilities would actually be covered.

This amendment does not expand the protection for religious institutions, because it is conditioned on already being protected under the bill's existing language. It is a blatant attempt to persuade members that it protects religious liberty when in fact the amendment facilitates the overall bill's undermining of religious institutions. For that reason we reserve the right to score negatively any vote on the amendment in our annual Vote Scorecard. Put simply, you cannot improve a piece of legislation that is as fundamentally flawed as ENDA is. The true purpose behind ENDA is to destroy religious liberty in the name of sexual tolerance. We applaud President Bush for his statement today vowing to veto the ENDA bill.

(Tony Perkins; Family Research Council)

* * * * *

ENDA will force businesses to provide special employment rights and protected minority status to individuals who define themselves based upon sexual behaviors. Such efforts are a misguided infringement upon our constitutional rights to religious freedom. This legislation will be used by homosexual activists as a tool to punish employers that have moral and religious standards.

Today President George Bush has signaled in a statement that he will likely veto this bill should it reach his desk. However, there is no guarantee that we will have enough votes to sustain a veto. Now more than ever we need you to contact your representatives and urge them to follow the president's lead and uphold their oath to defend the Constitution by voting "no" on this dangerous legislation. This dangerous bill would pit the government directly against the free exercise of religion, a situation which is unconstitutional on its face. Members of Congress need to join the President and exercise their sworn duty to defend the U.S. Constitution by voting 'no' on ENDA.

Please call your Representative at 202-225-3121 and urge him to oppose ENDA and the Baldwin amendment which would add "gender identity" or similarly bad language to the bill.

Please call the White House at 202-456-1414 and thank President Bush for his strong stance which is vital to defending the sanctity of marriage.

Update: The DREAM Act

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) as promised introduced the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM) as a stand-alone bill. This legislation would extend amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16. The illegal alien can then use his newly acquired status to seek green cards for the parents who brought him in illegally in the first place. This amendment has nothing to do with border security which absolutely must be our top priority. Please call your Senators at 202-224-3121 and urge them to oppose this legislation.

NO CONVICTIONS IN TRIAL AGAINST MUSLIM CHARITY

Prosecutors said in the courtroom that they would probably retry the charity's leaders.

A deadlocked federal jury in Dallas did not convict any leaders of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development who were charged with supporting Middle Eastern terrorists, and the judge Monday declared a mistrial in what has been widely viewed as the government's flagship terror-financing case.

The jury acquitted one of the five defendants on all but one charge, on which it deadlocked. A majority of the jurors also appeared ready to acquit two other defendants of most charges, and could not reach a verdict on charges against the two principal organizers and the foundation itself. (New York Times)

Monday's developments were a setback for the Bush administration, which had frozen the group's finances three months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and indicted its officials three years later on charges that they provided funds in support of Hamas, a militant Palestinian group that the United States considers a terrorist.

Prophetic America Can Choose Blessing Or Cursing

California Wildfires May Be Linked to Bill Signed by Governor Schwarzeneggar last week. Almost one million now evacuated in that state.

The Western third and the Southeastern United States is under severe to extreme drought conditions, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center. Southern California is experiencing raging fires which have caused the evacuation of nearly 300,000 people. New Orleans is experiencing flooding. National gasoline prices are averaging over $2.80. China and Japan have been dumping the dollar on foreign markets, devaluing the dollar against other currencies. Oil prices are hovering at record levels.

Recently, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law bills designed to teach homosexuality as normal in California's public schools. A school board in Maine voted to give birth control pills to sixth graders without parental notification. The U.S. Congress is considering legislation to require employers to hire homosexuals by not allowing businesses to discriminate based on "sexual orientation." The Bush Administration's relationships with China, Russia, Iran and Turkey have been strained in recent weeks, calling some attention to those nations that are prophetically involved in end time prophecies.

In addition, President Bush has bent over backwards to promote other god's at the expense of his own Christianity. In meeting with the Dalai Lama, Bush called him "His Holiness" and a great spiritual leader. Congress followed suit by awarding the Buddhist the Congressional Medal of Honor-the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a civilian. Earlier, the President, in responding to Ramadan said that he believes, ". . . in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That's what I believe." Meantime, his Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is pressuring Israel to divide the city of Jerusalem in a land for peace deal.

Most people would never connect all these current events. But from a spiritual sense, they may well be connected. First, the United States through its leadership is on a fast track in turning against God. Psalm 33:12 says, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." If the leadership of this nation reflects the nation, it is apparent that America is turning away from the Lord. In Zechariah 12:9, the Lord says, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." These are days of great prophetic significance. The prophecies contain both blessings and judgments and while people cannot stop the march of prophecy, they may determine their place in it. It is time to stand firm in the Lord.

Legislative Quicksand

Legislative Update
  • House: Employment Non-Discrimination Act
  • Senate: Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations
There are many dramatic headlines in the news — the San Diego fire, IEDs in America, drought, — and we would do well to seek "the LORD our God who gives the rain."

In the midst of all that, Congress is poised to make, in the words of the public interest Web site citizenJoe, "a little history" for "gay & lesbian rights."

The House is set to take up the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to "prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation." While the danger of the hate/thought crimes legislation is still pending, this legislation is another attempt at disintegrating the foundations of our national identity.

The Senate is expected to finish the Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill wherein we have already had some victories and defeats. Praise the Lord for executive spending restraint. It is then expected to turn its attention to Internet taxes or immigration.

Possible World War III In The News

The Daily Brief

SPECIAL EDITION

Friday, October 19, 2007

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (I Timothy 1:7)

SPECIAL NOTICE --

Every article in this Special Edition comes from today's alert from Bridges for Peace in Jerusalem.

Possible World War III In The News

Israel Warns World War III May be Biblical War of Gog and Magog

US President George W. Bush said a nuclear Iran would mean World War III. Israeli newscasts featured Gog and Magog maps of the likely alignment of nations in that potential conflict. Channel 2 and Channel 10 TV showed the world map, sketching the basic alignment of the two opposing axes in a coming world war, in a manner evoking associations of the Gog and Magog prophecy for many viewers. The prophecy of Gog and Magog refers to a great world war centered on the Holy Land and Jerusalem, and first appears in the book of Yechezkel (Ezekiel). On one side were Israel, the United States, Britain, France, and Germany. On the other were Iran, Russia, China, Syria, and North Korea.

US President Bush said Wednesday [October 17] during a press conference that Iran attaining nuclear weapons raises the risk of "World War III." "If Iran had a nuclear weapon, it'd be a dangerous threat to world peace," Bush said. "So I told people that if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested [in preventing a nuclear Iran] I take the threat of Iran with a nuclear weapon very seriously."

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Iran Tuesday and slammed the United States' refusal to rule out the use of force against Iran's nuclear project. "Not only should we reject the use of force, but also the mention of force as a possibility," he said. Russia has blocked tougher sanctions in the UN Security Council, where it has veto power. Putin asserts that there is no evidence Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons rather than a peaceful nuclear power program.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni called for a new UN Security Council resolution against Iran at a press conference following her meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Wednesday. "I do believe there is a need for another Security Council resolution," she told reporters. "In the past, the need to get everybody on board-including Russia and China-led to some compromises on the nature of the sanctions. I hope this will not be the case this time." (Excerpts of an article by Ezra HaLevi, IsraelNationalNews.com, October 18, 2007)

· Praise God that the Jewish people are reading the Hebrew Scriptures. Pray that they will take heart from the Word of God with regards to the destiny of Israel and also be moved to humility and repentance before the God of Israel.

· "Thus says the Lord GOD: 'Are you he of whom I have spoken in former days by My servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied for years in those days that I would bring you against them? . . . And I will bring him to judgment . . . I will rain down on him . . . and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the LORD' . . . So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day forward." (Ezekiel 38:17, 22-23, 39:22)

Mossad Chief: "Israel Cannot Be Destroyed"

"Israel Cannot Be Destroyed," Says Former Mossad Chief
..."Israel cannot survive"!
Israel cannot be destroyed, former Mossad chief Ephraim Halevy said Wednesday evening [October 17]. "(Russian President Vladimir) Putin is not interested in a nuclear Iran," Halevy said, adding that there was a big chance the Iranians would not achieve what they were after. Speaking at an event organized by the Lander Institute in Jerusalem, a day before Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's visit to Moscow and a day after Putin's visit to Tehran, Halevy said that "all the problems Israel had were not the result of unidentified threats. Iran must be dealt with in two simultaneous ways. They must be pressured through the global economy, and they must be given an opportunity to talk once they change their ways."

Halevy noted that Israel would not be destroyed. "We cannot say that the Iranian threat is an existential threat on the State of Israel. I believe that the State of Israel cannot be eliminated. It cannot be destroyed because of things you know and because of things you can imagine." According to the former Mossad chief, Iran was the big loser of the Second Lebanon War. "What happened in Lebanon was an Israeli move which hit the Iranians right between the eyes. They did nothing, absolutely nothing. It was a powerful and direct move by Israel, and they did nothing. This should teach us that the Iranians are not huge. We saw ourselves as grasshoppers compared to them. This is our problem."

As for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, "Had he not existed, we would have had to create him. He is doing great things for us." Addressing Israel's activity in the face of the Iranian nuclear program, Halevy said, "You should assume that things have been done and things are being done, and assume that the Jewish mind can create amazing things. Iran is a bitter enemy, but this does not mean that it should be an enemy forever. "The situation in Iran has not been particularly good over the past year. The economic situation is worsening, there is 30% inflation, official unemployment of 25%, and in Tehran the unemployment rate is 50%. Those who elected Ahmadinejad president did not elect him to develop nuclear weapons, but rather to serve as a successful mayor in Tehran. Students at Tehran's university chant, 'Death to Ahmadinejad,'" Halevy concluded. (By Ronny Sofer, Ynetnews.com, October 18, 2007)

· Pray that Israel will not be like the 12 spies of Moses's time, who saw the enemy as giants in the land and themselves as grasshoppers. Pray that Israel will learn that when God is for them, no man can stand against them.

· "Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them." (Numbers 14:9)

Palestinians Disappointed with Outcome of Rice's Visit

Palestinians Disappointed with Outcome of Rice's Visit

Palestinian officials expressed disappointment with the pronouncements of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over the importance of a joint Palestinian-Israeli statement to be reached ahead of the peace conference scheduled for the United States later this year. Rice, who did not rule out the possibility of delaying the conference, has downplayed expectations over an imminent breakthrough in the talks between Palestinian and Israeli negotiators, due to sharp differences.

To make the conference worthwhile, Palestinians want a specific framework agreement addressing the "core" issues of the conflict: the borders, the status of Jerusalem, and the fate of Palestinian refugees. The Palestinians have said they will not attend the conference without a document that contains details on these matters, as well as a specific time line, warning that failure at the conference will ignite another uprising similar to that which followed the collapse of the Camp David talks in 2000.

Israel officials, meanwhile, are seeking a vague document that will leave the big questions open, fearing that conceding too much too soon could drown the whole process in domestic opposition. The United States has not set a date yet or issued invitations but hopes key Arab states, including Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, will attend. Arab leaders have said that before accepting an invitation they want to be sure the conference deals with substance.

On Tuesday [October 16], Rice met in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who said the conference should be put off if a strong deal was not reached. Rice met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas again later on Wednesday after visiting Bethlehem for a meeting with Palestinian intellectuals and businessmen. Later in the day, Rice will leave for London to meet with Jordan's King Abdullah II in a bid to build support for the conference among skeptical Arab nations. (The Media Line, October 17, 2007)

· Though the pressure for a Middle East peace solution is increasing, there seems to be no sign of a breakthrough on the same hard issues. Pray that Israel will stand strong and not bend to international demands she cannot afford to concede.

· "Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong." (1 Corinthians 16:13)

Olmert Faces Third Criminal Probe

Olmert-Dividing the Land-Faces Unprecedented Third Criminal Probe

Israel's attorney general triggered a bomb shell Sunday [October 14] when he announced that Ehud Olmert was under criminal investigation for an unprecedented third time since becoming prime minister. The allegations at the center of this latest affair are reportedly graver than any made in the previous two investigations that are still ongoing against the premier. News of the new probe came as Olmert's ministers were meeting with visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to discuss the increasingly desperate US-pushed effort to create conditions for the birth of a Palestinian state.

According to reports, the new investigation will look into suspicions of cronyism, conflicts of interest, and political appointments made by Olmert while serving as trade and industry minister in the government of Ariel Sharon. Right-wing and leftist politicians clamored for "the most-ever-investigated prime minister in the history of Israel" to immediately step down. But political analysts believe it unlikely that the prime minister, who wants to go down in history as having made peace with the Palestinian Arabs, will bow out anytime soon. "Olmert is a tough politician who, throughout his career, has never been inhibited by moral considerations or public opinion from exploiting his authority to the hilt." wrote Dan Izenberg in Monday's edition of The Jerusalem Post.

While the Knesset [Parliament], in which Olmert has some serious political foes, could force him to resign, this was an unlikely option because too many MKs [members of Knesset] preferred holding on to their seats to seeing a disgraced prime minister face justice. Olmert's "popularity might continue to plummet-if, indeed, it can go any lower than it already is-but the odds are that not only will he continue to govern, but he will do so without displaying even the smallest degree of inhibition in using his powers," concluded Izenberg. (By Stan Goodenough, jnewswire.com, October 15, 2007)

· Pray that Israel's justice system will work for the good of the country to eradicate all corruption and wickedness. Pray that God will raise up righteous leadership for Israel.

· "Blessed are those who keep justice, and he who does righeousness at all times! Remember me, O LORD, with the favor You have toward Your people. Oh, visit me with Your salvation, that I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, that I may glory with Your inheritance." (Psalm 106:3-5)

Syria Confirms Israel Destroyed Nuclear Facility

Syria Confirms Israel Destroyed Nuclear Facility

A Syrian official has admitted that the Israeli operation on September 6 destroyed a nuclear facility, but the admission was followed shortly afterwards by a Syrian government denial. A Syrian representative said Tuesday [October 16] at the United Nations that reports that the target was a nuclear device were accurate. Syrian officials, including President Bashar Assad, had previously claimed that Israel attacked an abandoned army base or an agricultural facility.

During a meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission, the Syrian representative acknowledged that the target had been the nuclear facility. Israeli foreign ministry officials also attended the meeting. He accused Israel of aggression for targeting the facility. In Israel, details of the strike, beyond the fact that an operation took place on September 6 in Syria, are still under gag order. Local media continue to skirt the order by leaking information to foreign papers and then citing their reports. Some analysts have said the reason for the continued silence of the Israeli government on the attack is to avoid humiliating Assad and leading to a possible military escalation.

Dr. Elon Liel, a former director general of the foreign ministry, has gone one step further in his hope for a conciliatory approach to Israel's northern neighbor, sending a letter to Israeli Education Minister Yuli Tamir asking her to prevent high school students from participating in the "In the Footsteps of the Warriors" tours in the Golan Heights. Liel said he feared the tours would strengthen the students' connection to the Golan. He called the tours "a provocation," saying Israel would discourage Syria from negotiating an Israeli retreat from the Golan. Brigadier-General Avigdor Kahalani, who participated in the liberation of the Golan and the creation of the "In the Footsteps of the Warriors" tours, rejected Liel's demand as "nothing more than a leftist initiative." The tours are important to the students' morale and strengthen their sense of identification with Israel Defense Forces soldiers who fought in previous wars, he said. "A bus full of students is not a provocation." (By Ezra HaLevi, IsraelNationalNews.com, October 17, 2007)

· Pray that God will protect Israel's border with Syria and the entire Golan Heights.

· "Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help and the sword of your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you, and you shall tread down their high places." (Deuteronomy 33:29)

1. U.S. Southeast Reaches Most Severe Category Of Drought - International Herald Tribune

For the first time in more than 100 years, much of the southeastern United States has reached the most severe category of drought, climatologists said, creating an emergency so serious that some cities are just months away from running out of water.

· Some Georgians speculate that one of the reasons for the Southeastern drought is Jimmy Carter's book he wrote calling for the dismantling of Israel. Also, the dalai lama has received an honorary professorship at Atlanta's Emory University. Whatever the Lord's reasons for withholding rain from this area and others in America, only He knows. So we ask Him in faith to please let the rain come once again on our land for His Glory!

· "He changes rivers into deserts, and springs of water into dry land. He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands, because of the wickedness of those who live there." (Psalm 107: 33-34)

2. Putin Warns Against Attacks On Iran, May Dump Nuclear Treaty - AP, London Guardian and ABC News

Vladimir Putin issued a veiled warning Tuesday against any attack on Iran as he made the first visit by a Kremlin leader to Tehran in six decades -- a mission reflecting Russian-Iranian efforts to curb U.S. influence. Putin also warned that Russia was considering withdrawing from a major cold war arms treaty banning intermediate nuclear missiles unless it was expanded to include other states. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice worried by Putin's broad powers, said that the Putin led Russian government has amassed so much central authority that the power-grab may undermine Moscow's commitment to democracy.

· May Secretary Rice and her circle of advisors realize that their only hope is in You, Lord! May we all, including Mr. Putin, aspire to be written in Your Book of Remembrance. This is the only way we will not fail or be destroyed.

· "Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name." (Malachi 3:16 NKJV)

3. Violence Down 85 Percent Since May In Northwest Baghdad - World Tribune

The U.S. military has reported a halt in violence in a key area of the Iraqi capital. One reason for this is that the U.S. military reports a record number of tips from Sunnis in Baghdad. A growing number of Iraqi civilians have been relaying information on Al Qaida and Shi'ite insurgents and weapons caches.

· Dear Jesus, we fight to preserve Your precepts and the Law that Your Father gave to Moses. May we all remember how to love one another as You love us.

· "I am the Good Shepherd. The good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep." (John 10: 11 NKJV)

4. Jerusalem Emerges as Stumbling Block in Mideast Peace Talks - VOA

Jerusalem is emerging as a major stumbling block in new peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. As Robert Berger reports from VOA's Jerusalem bureau, both Jews and Muslims are claiming the city's holy sites as their own.

· Woe to those who lay claim to Jerusalem, the city nearest to God's heart, who are not chosen of the Lord.

· "In the day of the wrath of the Lord; they will not satisfy their souls, nor fill their stomachs, because it became their stumbling block of iniquity. I will turn My face away from them, and they will defile My secret place. Destruction comes; they will seek peace, but there shall be none. Disaster will come upon disaster, and rumor will be upon rumor. I will do to them according to their way, and according to what they deserve I will judge them; then they shall know that I am the Lord!'" (Ezekiel 7: 19b, 22a, 25, 26a and, 27b NKJV)

5. Democrats Withdraw Support of Armenian Genocide Resolution - Fox News

A House vote to label the century-old deaths of Armenians as genocide was in jeopardy Tuesday after several Democrats withdrew their support and sounded alarms it could cripple U.S. relations with Turkey. The loss of support is a major setback to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, who have fiercely defended the resolution to Republicans and the Bush administration as a moral imperative in condemning the World War I era killings of up to 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks. President Bush called Pelosi on Tuesday to ask her not to call for a House vote on the resolution.

· Only God can correct the wrongs of a nation. Man can never erase the slaughter of these innocent people who eventually found a new home in America, specifically Central California. May our leadership commit these atrocities to God for His divine resolution that always corrects, resolves and satisfies.

· "My enemies without cause hunted me down like a bird. They silenced my life in the pit and threw stones at me. The waters flowed over my head; I said, 'I am cut off!' I called on Your name, O Lord, from the lowest pit. You have heard my voice: 'Do not hide Your ear from my sighing, from my cry for help.' You drew near on the day I called on You, and said, 'Do not fear!'" (Lamentations 3: 52-57 NKJV)

6. Dalai Lama's All Smiles as He Receives Congressional Gold Medal - Fox News and AP

Tibet's Dalai Lama, clad in orange and crimson robes, was escorted today by President Bush to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda and surrounded by top congressional leaders for the presentation of the nation's top civilian honor. As Tibet's top Buddhist leader, he has been fighting for Tibetan autonomy from the Chinese government. His warm reception this week in Washington, that included a private Oval Office meeting, has riled Chinese officials.

The Dalai Lama, after meeting privately Tuesday with President Bush, brushed off China's furious reaction to U.S. celebrations this week in his honor. "That always happens," the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet's Buddhists said with a laugh, speaking to reporters gathered outside his downtown Washington hotel.

· Only those who disregard You Lord, would laugh at threats to our nation. May the truth behind this medal ceremony be revealed and all soul ties between our president and this false teacher be broken! We pray for safekeeping from wickedness for our president, and that he will be delivered from unrighteous relationships without stinging criticism. We pray for forgiveness for him and for those who organized this ceremony and all related events. May America be saved from all false religions for Your glory.

· "Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and who do not let me eat of their delicacies. Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; it shall be as excellent oil; let my head not refuse it." (Psalm 141: 4-5 NKJV)
