Focus on Israel

1. Jericho Arabs loot Second Temple burial grounds - World Israel News

The ancient burial caves on the outskirts of Jericho date back to the Second Temple era, and are apparently part of the extensive burial grounds of the Hasmonean palace uncovered at the site. The cave was recently exposed in the course of landscaping work carried out by local Arab farmers, who rolled tractors over the site to prepare the ground for agricultural work.

Professor Rachel Hachlili of Haifa University's Zinman Institute of Archaeology, who studied this region, identified these caves as the largest Second Temple-era burial ground in Israel.

Hikers who visited the site over the weekend were appalled by what they found: Human remains were strewn everywhere on the freshly-tilled ground, the catacombs were thoroughly ransacked and looted, and the sarcophagi (burial caskets) that had been resting in the caves for over 2500 years had disappeared.

2. Body of MIA Sgt. Zachary Baumel Returns to Israel 37 Years After First Lebanon War - Jewish Press

Israel announced Wednesday the body of Brooklyn-born IDF Sgt. 1st Class Zachary Baumel, a tank commander who went missing in action in the 1982 First Lebanon War after having been captured during the Battle of Sultan Yacoub in the Bekaa Valley, has been returned home for proper burial.

IDF Spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said the body was returned through a "secret intelligence operation" but declined to provide details on how his remains were retrieved.

"Zachary's bones which were brought to Israel were positively identified," said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement Wednesday evening. "With them were also found his tank jump-suit and his tzitzit. Soon Zachary will be brought to his eternal resting place with a Jewish burial.

3. Report: Hamas, Islamic Jihad order end to Gaza border attacks - YNET News

Militant groups in the Gaza Strip, which are dominated by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, have ordered their members to stop all launches of firebombs towards Israeli communities on the opposite side of the border, Palestinian newspaper al-Quds reported Wednesday.

All Hamas and Islamic Jihad men were also ordered to end their nightly disturbances along the Gaza border fence, the report said, as well as the use of explosives during riots along the border. The new directives are in line with the understandings being reached with Israel under Egyptian mediation.

Also Wednesday, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said that efforts to reach an arrangement with Israel, following last week's flare-up in the Gaza border region, are progressing well, and that a prisoner swap is not out of the question.

4. Russia positions itself as 'final judge' in Syria amid escalating Israeli-Iranian tensions - JNS

(April 3, 2019 / JNS) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin have been engaged in a flurry of discussions recently, at least some of which are likely tied to Iranian activities in Syria.

The meetings come in the shadow of recent reports of a major Israeli airstrike on March 28, targeting an Iranian weapons' warehouse near the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, which reportedly resulted in large blasts and casualties.

Russia leads a pro-Assad military coalition in Syria, of which Iranian forces are a central part of. Yet it also maintains a deconfliction channel with Israel to avoid unintended clashes between its air force and the Israeli Air Force, both of which are active in the Syrian arena.

Putin has also attempted to play the role of mediator between Israel and Iran, seeking to douse the shadow war raging between them on Syrian soil. Israel, for its part, is determined to disrupt Iran's plan to turn Syria into a war front against it.

The Daily Brief

1. Kirstjen Nielsen likens immigration crisis to 'Cat 5 hurricane disaster' - Washington Examiner

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the Trump administration is treating immigration threats, such as repeat migrant caravans along the U.S.-Mexico border, as a "Cat 5 hurricane disaster."

"We are bringing all of the agencies together. We're asking everybody to chip in," Nielsen told Fox News Tuesday night, adding that DHS is looking at sending troops to the border and providing more military resources. "We have to stop the drugs. We have to stop the smuggling and trafficking gangs. He's very serious about it, so yes, I think everything is on the table," Nielsen said.

This week, President Trump threatened to close the border between the U.S. and Mexico and urged Mexico to help stop the flow of illegal immigration crossings. "We're going to have a strong border, or we're going to have a closed border," Trump told reporters at the White House. (Read more)

- Father, without Your wisdom and intervention, we are completely unable to solve this crisis on our border. We lift up Secretary Nielsen and pray You will work Your will and Your way through her.

- Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. (James 3:13)

2. Trump admin asks courts to dismiss legal challenges to emergency declaration - The Hill

The Trump administration on Tuesday asked a federal judge to dismiss lawsuits challenging President Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southern border. The lawyers said the plaintiffs' arguments that the emergency is unconstitutional because it violates the separation of powers are invalid since "independent separation-of-powers concerns require dismissal of the President as a defendant because there is no cause of action against the President."

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are represented by the consumer rights group Public Citizen. The Trump administration on Tuesday also asked a judge to dismiss a similar lawsuit brought by the Center of Biological Diversity, according to Bloomberg News.

There are also several other lawsuits challenging the emergency, including one brought by attorneys general from 16 states. The legal challenges are likely the last roadblock to Trump's emergency declaration after the House last week failed to override Trump's veto of legislation disapproving of the declaration. (Read more)

- Father, we pray all these cases challenging President Trump's emergency declaration will either be dismissed or move through the courts quickly and be ruled in his favor.

- You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment. (Deuteronomy 16:18)

3. Castro Plans to Grant Millions Amnesty, Gut Immigration Enforcement - FreeBeacon

Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro unveiled a far-reaching immigration plan on Tuesday that would make it easier for illegal immigrants to enter and remain in the United States.

Castro, who served as secretary of housing and urban development in the Obama administration, is the first 2020 Democrat to present a detailed immigration plan. The plan comes as Castro struggles to gain traction in a crowded Democratic field, despite being the only Latino running.

The slogan animating Castro's immigration proposal is "putting people first," where the people to whom it refers are indisputably would-be immigrants to the United States. Broadly speaking, Castro's plan would extend legal rights, and eventually citizenship, to all people illegally residing in the United States; make it substantially easier to legally and illegally immigrate; and conversely make enforcement of immigration law substantially harder by removing law enforcement from the equation almost entirely. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray Julian Castro's immigration proposal, which will effectively lead to the end to our nation, will be clearly communicated to the voters.

- "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel's name is remembered no more." (Psalm 83:4)

4. Republicans overrule Democrats to speed up judicial confirmations - Washington Examiner

Senate Republicans made good on their threat to shorten debate time on district court judges, a move that followed an earlier vote to limit debate on sub-Cabinet level appointees. The GOP voted by a simple majority to limit debate to two hours - down from 30 hours - on district court nominees.

Republicans say the latest change is needed to end months of delay from tactics employed by Senate Democrats who want to slow Trump's efforts to seat new federal judges. The vote to shorten debate time for district court judicial nominees came after lawmakers advanced the nomination of Roy Kalman Altman, 37, to serve on the bench in the Southern District of Florida.

"In a great many cases, the demand for a cloture vote appears to be solely about delaying and about obstructing, not anything about the specific nominee or his qualifications," said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who chaired the Judiciary Committee in the last Congress. (Read more)

- Father, we pray all the pending administrative and judicial nominations will move through the Senate quickly. Give each nominee the courage to complete this process.

- After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes." (Nehemiah 4:14)

5. Joe Biden's 2020 Ukrainian nightmare: A closed probe is revived - The Hill

Two years after leaving office, Joe Biden couldn't resist the temptation last year to brag to an audience of foreign policy specialists about the time as vice president that he strong-armed Ukraine into firing its top prosecutor.

In his own words, with video cameras rolling, Biden described how he threatened Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in March 2016 that the Obama administration would pull $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees, sending the former Soviet republic toward insolvency, if it didn't immediately fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

Interviews with a half-dozen senior Ukrainian officials confirm Biden's account, though they claim the pressure was applied over several months in late 2015 and early 2016, not just six hours of one dramatic day. The prosecutor he got fired was leading a wide-ranging corruption probe into the natural gas firm Burisma Holdings that employed Biden's younger son, Hunter, as a board member. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for justice for the Ukrainian people regarding this apparent abuse of power. We also pray for an end to their civil war and a renewed desire to draw near to You.

- Draw near to my soul, and redeem it; Deliver me because of my enemies.
(Psalm 69:18)

6. Trump, Republicans Decide Not to Touch Affordable Care Act Without Replacement Plan - CBN

Republican lawmakers are breathing a sigh of relief that the Trump administration backed away from seeking an immediate repeal of the Affordable Care Act without a replacement plan, and instead will take the issue on the 2020 campaign trail.

President Trump surprised many in his own party when he declared that Republicans would be the party of health care, prompting Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to tell him this week he had no plans of taking up comprehensive health care reform with a Democratic-controlled House.

"I made clear to him that we were not going to be doing that in the Senate," McConnell told reporters. "He did say, as he later tweeted, that he accepted that and he would be developing a plan that he would take to the American people during the 2020 campaign." (Read more)

- Father, our nation needs real solutions much sooner than two or more years from now. We pray all of Congress will work with the Trump administration to deliver real solutions to the American people.

- Arise! For this matter is your responsibility, but we will be with you; be courageous and act." (Ezra 10:4)

7. House Panel Approves Subpoenas for Trump Officials, Mueller Report - Breitbart

The House Judiciary Committee approved subpoenas Wednesday for special counsel Robert Mueller's full Russia report as Democrats pressure the Justice Department to release the document without redactions.

The committee voted 24-17 to give Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., permission to issue subpoenas to the Justice Department for the final report, its exhibits and any underlying evidence or materials prepared for Mueller's investigation. Nadler has not yet said if he'll send the subpoenas.

In the letter last week, Barr said he is scrubbing the report to avoid disclosing any grand jury information or classified material, in addition to portions of the report that pertain to ongoing investigations or that "would unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties."

Georgia Rep. Doug Collins said all of the subpoenas would be overreach, and that Democrats shouldn't be asking for documents that the Justice Department can't legally disclose to the public. The committee rejected a GOP amendment that would have24-17 blocked the subpoenas from applying to grand jury information. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray for Your wisdom and protection to cover every person called before the House Judiciary Committee.

- Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Luke 12:7)

8. Tom Cotton Pushes IRS to Investigate Southern Poverty Law Center's Tax-Exempt Status - Breitbart

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is pressing the IRS to investigate the tax-exempt status of leftist group Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an organization that has been mired in scandal.

"I am writing to urge you to investigate whether the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) should retain its classification as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization," Cotton wrote in the Tuesday letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig. "Recent news reports have confirmed the long-established fact that the SPLC regularly engages in defamation of its political opponents. In fact, the SPLC's defining characteristic is to fundraise off of defamation."

"Perhaps the SPLC was founded for noble purposes and decades ago performed some good work, but what is left of the SPLC is no longer operating in a manner consistent with IRS guidelines and applicable law," Cotton wrote. "Based on this concerning information and the flood of recent reports, I encourage you to take immediate action." (Read more)

- Father, we pray Senator Cotton will be successful in having the IRS evaluate the tax-exempt status of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Furthermore, we pray all persons harmed by the leadership of SPLC will be fully compensated.

- Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house. (Proverbs 6:31)

9. AOC IMPLODES: Ocasio-Cortez Blames Sinking Poll Numbers on 'Far Right Propaganda' and 'Dark Money' - Sean Hannity

Embattled Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighed-in Thursday night on her sinking poll numbers among independents across the country; blaming the sudden drop on "far right propaganda" and a "dark money internet operation."

"It's almost as though there is a directed + concerted far-right propaganda machine with a whole cable news channel, and a dark-money internet operation propped up by the Mercers et al dedicated to maligning me & stoking nat'l division, reported on by @JaneMayerNYer or something," posted Rep. Ocasio-Cortez on social media.

Her comments come days after her fellow Democratic lawmakers refused to publicly endorse the 'Green New Deal,' voting "present" when the massive legislation was called to a full vote in the US Senate. (Read more)

- Father, we pray Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will have a transforming experience of Your love for her and a saving knowledge of Jesus. Help her understand The Enemy is her only true enemy.

- Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth (2 Timothy 2:25)

10. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit with FEC complaint for alleged 'subsidy scheme' - FoxNews

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has been hit with another Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint, this one alleging she and her campaign manager operated a "subsidy scheme" that ran afoul of campaign finance laws.

The crux of the complaint, which was given exclusively to Fox News in advance of its filing Wednesday, accused Ocasio-Cortez and her campaign manager, Saikat Chakrabarti, of overseeing a "shadowy web" of political action committees (PACs) that allowed them to raise more cash than they could have legally. It also alleged that a limited liability company (LLC) was created to avoid federal expenditure requirements by offering Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrat candidates political consulting services at a price so low that the company apparently shut down before the election was even over.

The complaint named Ocasio-Cortez, Chakrabarti (now her chief of staff), the Justice Democrats PAC, the Brand New Congress PAC and Brand New Congress LLC as the overlapping entities that aimed to "subsidize cheap assistance for Ocasio-Cortez and other candidates at rates far below market value." (Read more)

- Father, thank You for bringing this activity to light. Help our FEC process this complaint justly and quickly.

- Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. (Romans 13:5)

A threat to every American

Wednesday, April 3, 2019

Freedom of religion, speech and the press are linchpins to the success of America and every American citizen. The First Amendment to the Constitution reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." The neo-communists who are conducting an ongoing coup attempt in America shout the loudest about these freedoms and are the first to insinuate that the current Administration seeks to take them away. But the truth of the matter is that Democrats in the House are trying to frustrate these freedoms.

Case in point are the ongoing investigations into the Trump Administration combined with efforts to silence those who disagree with these boards of inquiry. The House Committee on Oversight and Reform is one such example. Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) is investigating why Fox News did not publish information about Trump's alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election. Cummings is demanding the reporter who covered the story for Fox provide all her notes and documents concerning any affairs Trump may have had and the money spent to silence the women involved. In particular, Cummings is demanding to know any actions taken against the reporter to suppress the story.

On the surface, this is just another investigation of Trump by those who are sore that he won the election. Those who had so much anxiety about whether Trump would accept the results of the election if he lost, are the ones who refuse to accept the results of the election. Nevertheless, Cummings and the House Democrats are fishing for more dirt and more media stories about dirt on Trump AND they are trying to silence the free press by intimidation. These communists are implying that Fox made an illegal contribution to Trump's campaign by suppressing stories about Trump's affairs. This sends the message that anyone in the press who doesn't publish a story when the government powers want it published, will be subject to expensive, lawyer-enriching investigations by Congressional communists. It abridges freedom of the press.

This is exactly what George Washington warned about in his 1796 farewell address, speaking of political parties: "...they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion." The ones doing these investigations and obstructing the people's government should be removed from office. They are cunning, ambitious and unprincipled. As in 2 Timothy 3:13, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." These types of people are deceptively trying to take away your freedom and they are a threat to every American citizen.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

'My Belief in Jesus Christ Makes a Real Difference':

Mike Pompeo Says His Christian Faith Puts Everything in Perspective

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is the man at the center of so many complex and vital issues facing America right now. But one constant through it all is his Christian faith.

Pompeo's life so far includes a growing list of accomplishments: Eagle Scout, first in his class at West Point, Harvard Law School graduate, Kansas congressman and the first American to ever hold the top jobs at both the CIA and the State Department. However, his number one on the list remains a faithful decision made back in college: a decision point to follow Jesus Christ.

"I grew up going to church on Sundays, but frankly it wasn't a priority in my life growing up," Pompeo told CBN News. "I went off to West Point, and as a young cadet, during my freshman year, there were two young men who were juniors who were true men of faith. And they held these little Bible study/cookie klatches on Sunday afternoons and they invited all the cadets to see - it was purely voluntary."

"I started showing up- truly remarkable," Pompeo explained. "I started going to church every weekend on my own because I wanted to be there to learn and to grow, and at some point during that first year, I really did come to have an understanding of Jesus that was different than the one that I had before. It fundamentally changed my life."

That life is a busy one as Secretary of State. Many issues facing him include a faith flavor, attempts for peace in the Middle East, religious persecution, and many more. He doesn't hide the faith element as witnessed by some of his comments during his recent joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netayahu in Israel.

"I'm proud to be here again not only as America's top diplomat, but also as a man of faith," he told Netayahu and the assembled media.

. . . As CIA Director, he attended regular Bible studies and as Secretary of State, he hosted the State Department's first worldwide conference on religious freedom. He also made faith part of his first major speech as the country's top diplomat during a visit to Cairo, Egypt.

"We're all children of Abraham: Christians, Muslims, Jews," Pompeo said. "In my office, I keep a Bible open on my desk to remind me of God and his word, and the truth."

CBN News recent interview with Pompeo in Israel attracted news of what you might describe as, 'biblical proportions.'

CBN's Chris Mitchell asked him, "Could it be that President Trump right now has been sort of raised for such a time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from the Iranian menace? Pompeo's answer? "As a Christian, I certainly believe that's possible." Also during the interview, he talked about God when it comes to israel. "I am confident that the Lord is at work here," Pompeo told us.

. . . for Pompeo, his worldview is informed by his faith. There's no separating the two. It's who he is and it something that really manifests in his life.

"Of course my mission as a Secretary of State, the thing I raised my right hand to do, I swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and I've done that now a handful of times - first as a soldier, then as a member of Congress, then as the director of the CIA, now as Secretary of State," he explained.

"But in each of those missions, the task that I have is informed by my understanding of my faith, my belief in Jesus Christ as the Savior . . . I think that makes a real difference, and so I want people to know," Pompeo continued. "It's why I talk about it from to time. I want folks to know the perspective that I am bringing to the challenges in the job that I face, and it also requires me to try to hold myself to the standards that Christians hold themselves out for." Classic Hymns

PRAISE HIM, PRAISE HIM!

"I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live." (Psalm 146:2)

Lyrics
Praise Him, praise Him-Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
Sing, O earth, His wonderful love proclaim.
Hail Him! hail Him! highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor give to His holy name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
In His arms He carries them all day long:
O ye saints that dwell on the mountain of Zion,
Praise Him, praise Him ever in joyful song.

Praise Him, praise Him-Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died;
He our rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him, hail Him, Jesus the Crucified.
Loving Savior, meekly enduring sorrow,
Crowned with thorns that cruelly pierced His brow;
Once for us rejected, despised and forsaken,
Prince of Glory, He is triumphant now.

Praise Him, praise Him-Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
Heav'nly portals loud with hosannas ring,
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him-Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Death is vanquished! Tell it with joy, ye faithful.
Where is now thy victory, boasting grave?
Jesus lives! No longer thy portals are cheerless;
Jesus lives, the mighty and strong to save.

Signs and Wonders

Long-term flooding remains a concern in central US as rivers continue to rise

While some rivers have crested, others continue to rise and may not crest until the middle to latter part of April over parts of the central United States.

Snow from the winter has melted across much of the Plains and Midwest. However, there still remains 1-2 feet of snow on the ground over parts of the northern Plains and the northern tier of the Midwest. Within this snow, there is as much as 6 inches of water locked up.

Rivers such as the Red River of the North and portions of the James and Mississippi have not yet crested with major flooding still to come over the next one to four weeks.

At Huron, South Dakota, the James River is forecast to crest at major flood stage on April 5 or 6.

Miracle baby girl is born on top of a mango tree during Mozambique cyclone - Fox News

A woman whose home was destroyed from the floods of the deadly cyclone that hit southern Africa last month gave birth to a baby girl while atop of a mango tree.

Single mother Amelia climbed up the tree with her 2-year-old son as the rising flood waters of Cyclone Idai rushed into her home in central Mozambique.

"I had no choice but to climb a tree, I was alone with my son. Then the pain started, and I had no one around to help me," she told the United Nation's children's agency UNICEF. "In a few hours, I gave birth to my baby girl Sara, on top of that mango tree. I was completely alone with Sara and my son." (Read more)

Dad Overcome With Emotion as Grocery Store Clerk Helps His Autistic Son Stock Shelves

"To me, when you go to a grocery store with an autistic kid, especially when they're young, people don't understand, they're not very accepting. Somehow this young man reached my son . . . he went into Jack Ryan's world."

[Faithwire.com] A Louisiana supermarket employee has restored our faith in humanity after noticing an autistic boy's interest in re-stocking shelves and allowing him to do the job himself.

Sid Edwards and his son Jack Ryan Edwards, 17, were in their local Rouses Market in Baton Rouge when Jack, who is on the autistic spectrum, took a keen interest in the work that one of the store clerks was completing. Edwards said that his son was utterly mesmerized by the task of restocking a fridge with juice, watching intently as the employee filled up the fridge.

When 20-year-old Jordan Taylor noticed Jack's fascination, he reached out to the boy.

Our numbers of readers continues to grow over time. All are welcome to join!

Our conference number is: 712-432-0075.

The access code is: 206425#. Please call at any time from midnight to 6:00 a.m. EST. WELCOME!

[Note: we are reading from these versions of the Scripture: King James, New King James, New American Standard, and NIV.]

God bless you!
