Holy Week: Day Two

As we gaze on a confused and frustrated world, this Scripture comes to mind: "For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe" (1 Corinthians 1:21).

The idea of our world being saved by Christ on the cross was foolishness to the proud and boastful Corinthians of the Apostle Paul's time, who thought that the wisdom of the world was vested in them. And there are many people like them today. But how different it is for those of us who in simple faith know Christ and Him crucified. For us, as the apostle wrote, the cross of Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

We have been saved by His grace and mercy. We do not deserve it, we did not pay for it, we did not work for it. It has been given to us as a gift. It is by the work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross-and by His resurrection-that we can claim any right to the great Kingdom that is yet to come.

When others look at you, do they see the hope that you have in Christ, both for this life and for eternity?

Focus on Israel

1. Final Results: Bibi Up One, Bennett Out, Right Bloc at 65 Seats, Left Without Arabs at 45 - Jewish Press

Israel is a more rightwing country today than it was last Monday as the final election results have been delivered very early Friday morning. Only 11 slates made it into the 21st Knesset, clearing a path for Netanyahu to forge whatever coalition government he chooses. In fact, as the NY Times editorial boardput it right after the election, Netanyahu is now free to "threaten Israel's democratic character" and "deepen the alienation between its right-wing coalition government and a majority of American Jews."

Music to our ears . . .

Here's the chart, with Netanyahu's Likud able to withstand any rebellion from his coalition partners Liberman, Kahlon and Smotrich. Sitting pretty on 65 seats, and living in harmony with Shas and United Torah Judaism which are so easy to please, the fifth-term prime minister can survive any one of his other partners threatening a walk and still stay alive.

2. Rivlin said to ask not to sit next to Netanyahu at event, amid coalition talks - Times of Israel

President Reuven Rivlin reportedly asked not to be seated next to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at an event in Jerusalem on Sunday evening commemorating Israeli troops killed in battle, amid discussions this week on who will be tasked with forming the next government.

"These are sensitive days of consultations with [political] factions," organizers of the event said, according to Channel 12 news, referring to talks Rivlin will hold this week with party leaders on who should become prime minister.

3. Netanyahu: We Will Continue To Act On All Fronts, Including In North - Jerusalem Post

"We will continue to act on all fronts, including on the northern front, because we are not prepared to allow someone to establish power and endanger the State of Israel," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

"Power is the guarantee of our existence, and it is the essential and fundamental condition for achieving peace with our neighbors," he said.

4. Israel's Youth Propelled Netanyahu's Re-Election - Jerusalem Online

Benjamin Netanyahu's support in this years election came mostly form Israel's youth. The Israeli Institute of Democracy conducted a demographic study based on age one week before the elections. Netanyahu's Likud Party had the highest support in the 18 to 24 age group with 65% supporting him. In the 25-34 age group 53% of respondents supported him, while half of the people over age 34 preferred to see a centrist or left wing candidate win the election.

Researches are trying to explain this phenomenon by determining that those people who were born in the 1990's experienced a bloody Intifada and a disengagement from Gaza. The disengagement from Gaza did not bring peace, just the opposite; it brought more death and suffering to the Israeli populace. Experiences such as these at a young age have caused them to believe that peace can only be achieved by force; something only the right-wing parties can achieve.

5. Iranian forces said killed in reported Israel airstrike on Syria missile factory - Times of Israel

A number of Iranian forces were reportedly killed in an airstrike on a Syrian military position near the city of Masyaf in western Hama province overnight Friday-Saturday. Syrian state media said Israeli jets carried out the raid in the middle of the night, firing missiles while flying in Lebanese airspace.

Syria's official state news agency SANA said Israel targeted a military site in the area, but that Syrian air defenses intercepted the attack, downing some of the missiles fired. The regime mouthpiece said the interception resulted in the destruction of several buildings and the wounding of three "fighters." The area is known to house Iranian forces and their Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah.

8. Netanyahu in Moscow for Syria Meeting with Putin - BFP

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Thursday, April 4, with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to "discuss events in Syria." Netanyahu requested the meeting shortly after the United States recognized Israel's full sovereignty over the Golan Heights through a presidential proclamation at the end of March.

Israel has been calling on Russia to use its influence in Syria to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from securing a lasting presence in the country. Israeli officials see Iranian forces and their terror proxy Hezbollah as a direct threat to the Jewish state and have demanded that Iran completely withdraw from the war-torn state.

Ahead of the meeting in Moscow, Netanyahu said he would discuss with Putin the "special coordination between our militaries." The Kremlin announced earlier this week that the two leaders would "compare notes" during their third meeting in recent months. (Read more)

- Continue to pray for the complex and sometimes tenuous relationship between Israel and Russia. Thank the Lord for US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights and beseech Him that Russia will use its influence in Syria to further reduce the Iranian threat to Israel and the entire region.

1. Ohio passes ban on aborting babies with beating hearts, governor signs- LifeSiteNews

Ohio legislation to ban abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected finally became law Thursday, after a lengthy battle last year came up one vote short of overcoming a veto by the state's previous governor.

Senate Bill 23 would ban aborting any baby once a heartbeat can be detected (around 6-8 weeks), except in cases of a physical threat to the mother. Violating physicians would face up to a year in prison and suspension or revocation of their medical licenses (with medical board fines going to finance foster and adoption services). Women would also be able to sue abortionists for wrongful death.

The legislation passed the state Senate in March, and passed the state House Tuesday on a 56-40 vote, Cleveland.com reports. Ohio's Republican Gov. Mike DeWine signed it later that afternoon, WOSU reports.

"The essential function of government is to protect the most vulnerable among us, those who don't have a voice," DeWine declared. "Government's role should be to protect life from the beginning to the end." (Read more)

2. U.S. House Democrats blame Trump for worsening border crisis - Reuters

LEESBURG, Va. (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Democrats are accusing Republican President Donald Trump of aggravating a crisis situation at the southern U.S. border, saying he has not used funds available to help deal with a surge of migrants and exacerbated the problem with his attempts to crack down.

U.S. officers arrested or denied entry to over 103,000 people along the border with Mexico in March, a 35 percent increase over the prior month and more than twice as many as the same period last year, according to data released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection this week. (Read more)

- Father God, we bind the spirit that is causing this hysterical rhetoric in all matters regarding the southern border. We ask that our military officials consider utilizing the nonlethal weapons we have in our arsenal, to disperse the growing crowds at the border. In Your Name, amen.

3. Donald Trump to Democrats: Change the Laws or We're Putting More Illegals in Sanctuary Cities - Breitbart

President Donald Trump threatened Friday to send more illegal immigrants to Democrat-run sanctuary cities if they failed to change the existing immigration and asylum laws.

He told a group of reporters that he was "strongly looking at" the idea after visiting Texas and California and the border, where his administration was constructing new physical barriers.

"If they don't agree, we might as well do what they always say they want. We'll bring in the illegals . . . we'll bring them to sanctuary city areas, and let that particular area take care of it," Trump said. "Whether it's a state or whatever it might be. California certainly is always saying they want more people in their statuary cities, well we'll give them more people, we can give them a lot. We can give them an unlimited supply." (Read more)

4. Trump goes after Ilhan Omar with dramatic video using 9/11 footage - RealClearPolitics

President Trump Friday tweeted out a jarring video juxtaposing remarks last month by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., which some charged minimized the 9/11 tragedy, with archival footage of the destruction of the World Trade Center.

Writing "WE WILL NEVER FORGET," Trump tweeted a video that repeatedly displays Omar's reference to the terrorists as "some people" and then cuts to planes crashing into the buildings and the towers tumbling to the ground.

It is not clear who put together the video Trump tweeted. The images on the video are searing. Trump apparently plans to keep the tweet up for some time, having pinned it to the top of his Twitter feed. (Read more)

God, we pray that You will close the gates by Your strong power and deny entry to any anti-American immigrant from this time forth and for evermore. We ask this in the Name of Jesus.

5. Man sets himself on fire outside White House - Washington Examiner

The Secret Service detained a man outside the White House on Friday afternoon after he apparently attempted to light himself on fire.

A Secret Service spokeswoman confirmed the man had tried to set his jacket on fire, and the D.C. Fire Department responded to administer first aid. No information about the man's condition or reason for setting himself on fire was immediately available. He was taken to the hospital.

Authorities closed Pennsylvania Avenue and locked down the White House as authorities investigated a suspicious package found near the man. Authorities lifted the lockdown on the White House late Friday afternoon. The Associated Press reported President Trump was at the White House at the time. The Secret Service said they are still investigating. (Read more)

- Lord God, thank You Lord, for searching out all those who are seeking to cause destruction to President Trump. Send them out of this country so they will be unable to have a second chance to bring their evil schemes to pass. We pray and trust in the Name of Jesus.

6. Thursday Indictments: Michael Avenatti, Obama WH Official Greg Craig and Julian Assange - SaraACarter

Julian Assange was forced from his nearly seven year asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in the United Kingdom. He was taken into custody by British authorities and will be extradited to the United States. Assange faces five years in prison for his role in obtaining and disseminating classified information from former Army intelligence analyst Bradley Manning.

"Greg Craig, former White House counsel for then - President Barack Obama, was indicted Thursday on two counts of making false and misleading statements to investigators - including Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team - in connection with his work on behalf of Russia-backed former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych," reports Fox News. The indictment [also] references Craig's contacts in the media and that he lied about those contacts to investigators.

Michael Avenatti the famed lawyer for porn-star Stephanie Clifford, who goes by the name Stormy Daniels, was also charged Thursday by federal prosecutors in California. They slammed him with fresh charges in a 61-page federal indictment detailing 36 counts, that describe Avenatti's alleged decade-long schemes to embezzle and hide money from clients, even a disabled client who won a $4 million lawsuit. 7. Stefanik Moves To Prevent Comey-Era Spy Abuses At FBI - The Federalist

Elise Stefanik, a Republican lawmaker who sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, introduced legislation Wednesday that would require the FBI director to promptly inform Congress when investigations of candidates for federal office are undertaken by federal law enforcement or intelligence authorities.

Two years ago, when then-FBI Director James Comey finally notified Congress that he'd opened up a counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign the previous year, some members were deeply troubled. Not only was the FBI director not supposed to hide his counterintelligence work from a key group of congressional members who receive his briefings, he was supposed to notify them in particular about politically sensitive probes.

The legislation from Stefanik addresses a loophole in current law that allowed Comey to unilaterally withhold that information from key congressional oversight bodies. 8. The Equality Act Is about Coercion - National Review

Conservatives have traditionally been opposed to legislation prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. They have believed that market pressures, changing social views, and sub-federal legislation could adequately address problems of wrongful discrimination, while federal legislation would create potential harms to religious freedom. But the Equality Act now gaining steam in Congress goes considerably further than that, and deserves determined opposition.

Under the bill, all federally funded entities, from educational programs (college sports teams, school bathrooms) to public accommodations (women's shelters, locker rooms), would be forced to interpret "sex" to include "gender identity." In other words, to treat men as women if they identify as such, and vice versa. Some feminists in America, working to foster bipartisan resistance, have nicknamed the bill the "Women's Erasure Act."

The legislation does not even nod in the direction of respecting religious freedom. It explicitly blocks religious believers from invoking the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, passed in 1993 with overwhelming support, to request exemptions from its provisions. (Read more)

- Father in heaven, we trust that our laws will continue to conform and enforce the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, so that children as well as adults can be protected from an existence with no lawful protection regarding their male and female identity. 9. New Jersey Gov Signs Bill Making It 7th State to Legalize Assisted Suicide, Will Force Taxpayers to Fund Suicides - LifeSiteNews

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law today a bill targeting elderly and disabled people that legalizes assisted suicide statewide. Six states (California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Vermont) and Washington D.C. permit the dangerous practice of allowing physicians to write lethal prescriptions to certain groups of persons to kill themselves.

New Jersey pro-life advocates fought legalization valiantly for six years but euthanasia supporters finally obtained enough votes for the bill.

Patients Rights Action Fund's Executive Director, Matt Valliere told LifeNews he was disappointed by the news. "With the signing of this bill to legalize assisted suicide, many vulnerable New Jerseyans are now at risk of deadly harm through mistakes, coercion, and abuse. People with disabilities, the economically disadvantaged, and terminally ill patients are at greatest risk - dangerous public policies often ignore the voices of the vulnerable," he said. "They are already at a disadvantage when they try to gain equal access to healthcare, and this law will only increase the challenges they face." (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we pray that no more states will support this bill legalizing assisted suicide. It is introducing an entirely new avenue of sinful practices of controlling when a person is to die. The blood of patients will be on the hands of the doctors and those assisting these suicides. God forbid. In the Name of Jesus.

10. Clinic Workers Respond to 'Unplanned' - and It's Incredible - Pureflix

Chuck Konzelman, writer and director of "Unplanned," a film about Planned Parenthood clinic director-turned pro-life advocate Abby Johnson, revealed Wednesday during a congressional testimony that 94 clinic workers have come forward after watching the movie to seek help leaving their jobs.

Konzelman, who spoke before the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, revealed that, since the film's release on March 29, these workers approached Johnson's nonprofit, And Then There Were None, and have indicated an intent to change their lives. And Then There Were None's stated mission is to "help abortion clinic workers leave the abortion industry."

The "Unplanned" director went on to say that these individuals are truly looking to change their lives. "One percent of the abortion workers in the United States, after getting one look at them being portrayed on film . . . have decided to change their lives . . . and what they do for a living," Konzelman said. 11. Online Sex-Trafficking Demand Drops After Backpage Takedown, Trump Admin Policies: Report - Epoch Times

In April 2018, President Donald Trump signed into law the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act and Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act that stopped the shielding of website operators from state criminal charges or civil liability if they facilitate sex ads or prostitution. Just days later, sex-trafficking website Backpage.com was taken down by the FBI. The report by Childsafe.AI-the world's first artificial intelligence platform for monitoring, graphing, and modeling child-exploitation risk on the web-details how the twin acts "dramatically changed" the sex-trafficking online marketplace, specifically the distribution layer that served the underground commercial sex economy. After Backpage.com was shut down, a number of other popular sites at the time also closed down or discontinued their activities. As a consequence, the search volume for sex in the underground commercial sex economy dropped 90 percent in the months following April 2018, the report found. (Read more)

- Almighty God, how thankful we are that this industry has dropped 90 percent because President Trump signed into law two Acts that shut down website operators. Praise the Name of the Lord. Bless our President for standing against these websites and the crime of sex-trafficking in America. In the Name of Jesus.

12. Congo's Ebola outbreak might be declared global emergency - NBC

A top Red Cross official said Friday he's "more concerned than I have ever been" about the possible regional spread of the Ebola virus after a new spike in cases, as the World Health Organization met on whether to declare the outbreak in Congo an international health emergency.

Emanuele Capobianco, head of health and care at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, cited Congolese health ministry statistics showing 40 new cases over two days this week. He called that rate unprecedented in this outbreak. Capobianco cited lack of trust about Ebola treatment in the community, which had never faced an outbreak of the virus before, and insecurity caused by rebel groups that has hurt aid efforts.

The Ebola outbreak in Congo announced on Aug. 1 has become the second-deadliest in history, behind the West African one from 2014-16 that killed more than 11,300 people. Congo's health ministry on Thursday reported 1,206 confirmed and probable cases, including 764 deaths. (Read more)

- Father God in heaven, we pray for miraculous relief efforts to reach these victims. We ask that angels from heaven go amongst those Ebola victims and heal them and prevent the spread of this deadly disease. Thank You, Lord. In the Name of Jesus we pray.

The fight for life


The Declaration of Independence states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among those are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Over 61 million preborn American citizens have lost their unalienable rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness because their life was snuffed out before they had a chance to live it. The 1973 Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion opened the door to the greatest infanticide movement known to man in contemporary times. Today, death culture jack-boots push abortion after full term. Even so, there is a gallant counterrevolution fighting for life.

After years of tenacious hard work, setbacks, lobbying and good old-fashioned prayer and action, the pro-life folks in Ohio overcame the forces of darkness and Republican Governor Mike DeWine signed into law The Ohio Human Rights and Heartbeat Protection Act prohibiting abortion of embryos and fetuses with detectable heartbeats. This is the latest in a series of victories promoting the protection of the preborn across America. Similar abortion bans have become law in Kentucky and Mississippi, and on in Georgia is pending signature. Ohio also was successful in a previous court challenge to the state's legislation ending taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood because it performs abortions.
The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute reports: "Six-week bans have also moved in Missouri and Tennessee legislatures, while they have been introduced-but have not yet moved-in Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, South Carolina and West Virginia. In addition, North Dakota (2013) and Iowa (2017) have already enacted such bans (neither is in effect). Through April 11, 14 states have introduced, moved, or enacted 6-week bans this year, underscoring the extreme scope and unprecedented volume of these bills. Banning abortion at six weeks has emerged as a leading tactic for antiabortion politicians and activists, with the ultimate goal of challenging Roe v Wade at the U.S. Supreme Court."
Also, the movie "Unplanned" has become a box office success despite the pro-death lobby and social media's efforts to discourage viewership. Today, please praise God and say a prayer for those warriors on the front line who are taking Romans 12:21 to heart, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." These men and women have worked hard, prayed hard, and demonstrated longsuffering in their fight for life. I want to commend them and hold them up--folks like Dr. Les Young, a 30-year veteran of the pro-life movement, who has written a 365-0day devotional called "Devoted to Life." There are so many who are devoted to life EVERY DAY. They are driven by the passion of God in the righteous fight for life.

McCarthy on Pelosi's First 100 Days: 'Radicalism, Resistance, Resolutions'


House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Wednesday that Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) first 100 days as the leader of the House may be summed up as "radicalism, resistance, and resolutions."

McCarthy held a press conference with members of House GOP leadership as well as rank-and-file Republicans on the Democrats' first 100 days holding the majority of Congress's lower chamber.

"We are three days away from the 100-day mark from Democrats holding a majority of the House. And so far, they've managed to sum up in three words: radicalism, resistance, and resolutions," the California Republican said.

"Today, we are voting on a so-called budget the Democrats proposed, but they pulled the vote because they allowed the socialist wing of their party to overtake it," McCarthy added.

The House GOP leader then said Democrats could have focused on improving Americans' lives instead of voting on ineffectual non-binding resolutions.

For instance, in March, Democrats held a vote condemning hatred in most forms, even though the vote was inspired by inflammatory remarks from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) condemned the resolution in March because it disavowed every form of hate-except for Christians and Caucasians. (Breitbart) Read more.

Update: A Two-State Solution?

Pompeo declines to reaffirm Trump commitment to two-state solution


US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to endorse a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Wednesday regarding the State Department 2020 budget request, Pompeo expressed hope that the upcoming peace plan would create the conditions in which Israelis and Palestinians could solve the conflict, but did not provide any specifics.

In a four-minute exchange between Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) and Pompeo, the two argued about the prospects of an upcoming peace process between Israel and the Palestinians. Kaine pressured Pompeo to declare the US official position is still to back the two-state solution, but Pompeo declined to give a definite answer. (Jerusalem Post) Read more.


Israeli politics, religious holidays could further delay Trump's peace plan

US President Donald Trump is unlikely to roll out his Mideast peace plan until after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sets up his new government, Israeli officials said, despite US National Security Council John Bolton's comment Wednesday that it could be published in the "very near future."

But if the administration waits until a new government is formed, it is likely - especially if the coalition depends on support from the Union of Right-Wing Parties and Yisrael Beytenu - that it would trigger the new government's first coalition crisis.

Trump has said himself that the plan will necessitate concessions on both sides, but any Israeli territorial concession is likely to be strongly opposed by at least one of those two parties, if not by both. (Jerusalem Post) Read more.

It Looks Like a Bomb:

Tornadoes Roar Across the South; At Least 8 People Killed;

Dozens Injured; Homes Destroyed


Powerful storms killed at least eight people as they pushed across the South over the weekend, bringing destruction from Texas to Alabama.

Tornadoes left behind swaths of damage in Mississippi and Alabama Sunday. On Saturday, dozens of homes were destroyed in East Texas.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, a tornado was confirmed near Troy, Alabama. A number of mobile homes were damaged and live web cameras showed an overturned vehicle and downed power lines.

More than 125,000 homes and businesses across the South and up into Kentucky and Missouri were without electricity shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to poweroutage.us.

The storms brought hail to the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Saturday and led to more than 680 flights being canceled. Airport spokesman Casey Norton told The Associated Press almost 7,000 people spent the night in DFW terminals.(Read more)

Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes will spread through parts of the eastern states into early Monday morning as a powerful storm system continues to move farther eastward.

Archaeologists Uncover Jesus' Last Supper Room in a Way
You've Never Seen Before


Israeli archaeologists have given new life to the ancient stone room traditionally believed to be the site of Jesus' Last Supper on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem.

The Cenacle's ancient walls, worn-down surfaces, and poor illumination have made it hard for researchers to study its history. Thousands of Christian tourists go there every year to visit the possible location of the Last Supper. Jewish tradition says it was built above the burial site of King David.

Reuters reports that archeologists from Israel's Antiquities Authority and European research institutions used laser technology and advanced photography to create incredibly detailed three-dimensional models of the hall.

"We managed to reach every corner of the building. We managed to create 3D models of this wonderful and sanctified place," archaeologist Amit Re'em told Reuters of the project, which began in 2016. "We managed in one of the . . . holiest places in Jerusalem, to use this technology and this is a breakthrough." (CBN) Read more
