Reflections for Holy Week

Holy Week: Day Three

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:22-28

Who looks forward to turning on the news these days? All we seem to hear about are problems. People are losing jobs and savings. A person can get depressed listening to it all, and many people are fearful.

If you are facing hardship during these tough times, my heart goes out to you. Life isn't always fair or easy. You may feel you do not know where to turn. But one of the Bible's greatest truths is this: God never abandons us when life becomes difficult. He is always with us and wants to help us, even when things seem to be going wrong. He does not guarantee to reverse every misfortune, but if Christ lives in our hearts, we have His promise that nothing "in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:39).

What a guarantee! Instead of being fearful about the future, this Easter we can trust and believe that God is working a purpose in our lives. We can have hope!
Despite troubles and bad news, are you able to rejoice in the Gospel-the Good News of your salvation in Christ Jesus?

Our guide to our devotions was written by Billy Graham, and is titled "Victory: Preparing for Resurrection Sunday." Published by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, this special devotional for Holy Week can be found online by going here:

Focus on Israel

1. Netanyahu meets with haredi lawmakers - Israel National News

The heads of Israel's haredi parties on Monday morning met Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at his Jerusalem home, Kikar Hashabbat reported.

Netanyahu's meeting with Shas leader Interior Minister Aryeh Deri and UTJ's Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman came just before the two met with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to recommend Netanyahu continue in his position as PM.

The meeting is believed to have focused on coalition negotiations, including the parties' goal of passing an amended Draft Law within the first month of the next government, and Deri's bill to ban the recognition of private conversions.

2. Shas candidates back Netanyahu for PM - Israel National News

The Sephardic-haredi Shas party's delegation to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin recommended that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who leads the Likud party, be tasked with forming the next government.

Religious Affairs Minister Yitzhak Vaknin (Shas) wished Rivlin's wife Nechama a speedy recovery and said, "I think that the Netanyahu-led government did its job properly. He is worthy of continuing to run the State of Israel."

3. President Rivlin Begins Consultations to Form New Coalition Government - Breaking Israel News

Israel's President Reuven Rivlin has begun consultations with the heads of the country's political factions, in an attempt to expedite the formation of the government.

It is widely expected, though by no means a fait accompli, that Israel's current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be tasked with attempting to construct a ruling coalition.

The process is being broadcast live - via Facebook - a first for the State of Israel, in an effort to promote transparency. Rivlin began the process by saying, "The president doesn't pick the PM, the sovereign does and the sovereign is the public. The president picks the MK with the best chance to form a government." Rivlin met with each of the parties at his Jerusalem residence and received their recommendations for a candidate to form and lead the next government.

4. Police To Deploy Thousands Of Officers In Jerusalem For Passover Holiday- Jerusalem Post

More than 3,000 police officers will be deployed across the country, with a focus on Jerusalem, in preparation for and during the Passover holiday, which begins Friday at sundown.

The Daily Brief

1. Mueller report expected to be released Thursday morning - Fox news

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's much-anticipated Russia report is set to be released to the public and Congress on Thursday morning, the Justice Department announced.

Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec told Fox News on Monday the report would be made available -- with redactions -- Thursday morning to lawmakers and to the public. The news comes despite mounting calls from Democrats to first release the report to Congress without redactions.

Attorney General Bill Barr testified last Wednesday he planned to have the report available "within a week," maintaining his original vow to release Mueller's full report by mid-April.

Last month, Mueller submitted his more than 300-page report to the Justice Department for review by the attorney general and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. In a letter to Congress, Barr relayed some of the primary findings of the report, stating the special counsel found no evidence of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians during the 2016 presidential election. (Read more)

- Lord, no matter what is released, those who hate the President will find something wrong with it or try another tactic. We pray that people will once and for all accept the report, and that You will stop the continual bombardment against Mr. Trump so that He can accomplish the tasks You have for him to complete.

"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles." (Psalm 34:17)

2. Pelosi moves to ensure Ilhan Omar's safety, calls for Trump to take down video - Fox News

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Sunday that she's taken steps to ensure the safety of Rep. Ilhan Omar following President Trump's tweet of a video that, according to critics, showed the Minnesota Democrat being dismissive of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The California Democrat also called on Trump to take down the video. That same day, the video was no longer pinned to the top of Trump's Twitter feed, although it was not clear whether it was because of Pelosi's request.

Pelosi was among numerous Democrats who had criticized Trump over the tweet, with some accusing him of trying to incite violence against the Muslim lawmaker. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that Your heart for America would triumph over the agenda of those who hate You. We pray for conviction of sin over all by the power of Your Spirit. We ask that no harm come to any of the legislators or the President as the rhetoric heats up and lies increase.

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26)

3. Ocasio Cortez-Rashida Tlaib Attend Anti-Semitic Muslim Gathering With Links to Hamas - Breaking Israel News

The three new Democratic Senators met with American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), a rabidly anti-Israel group. Alexandria Ocasio Cortes (NY-D) and Rashida Talib (Mich-D) attended the Palestine Advocacy Day event for American Muslims for Palestine (AMP).

In 2013, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) released a report in which it said: "AMP promotes extreme anti-Israel views and has at times provided a platform for anti-Semitism under the guise of educating Americans about 'the just cause of Palestine and the rights of self-determination'." Jonathan Schanzer, senior vice president of research at the American think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, claimed in a hearing with the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in 2016 that at least seven individuals involved in AMP have been involved in organizations shut down or held liable for sending money to Hamas. The chairman of AMP responded by accusing Schanzer of appealing to Islamophobia. (Read more)

- Father, at this point we pray for Your mercy over our nation, as elements of anti-Semitism have been raised up are running rampant. Remember Your people in the midst of these evil times.

"Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me." (Isaiah 49:16)

4. Focus on the Leaking, Not Just the Spying - Bloomberg

Attorney General William Barr thinks that U.S. intelligence agencies spied on Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, he told the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday. And as Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, he has assembled a team to review the matter.

He does not know if the spying was improper, Barr emphasized. "The question is whether it was adequately predicated," he said. He later clarified that he does not think the FBI itself is corrupt. Nonetheless, Barr said, "spying on a political campaign is a big deal."

Barr is correct on both counts - that there was snooping on the Trump campaign, and that the question of whether it was justified deserves further scrutiny. What also deserves scrutiny is how an ongoing intelligence investigation into that campaign became public. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that AG Barr will hae Your wisdom to uncover anything that was amiss over the last few years, and prevent it from occurring again.

"Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be made known." (Matthew 10:26)

5. CBS drama 'The Good Fight' sparks outrage after tweeting 'Assassinate,' 'President,' and 'Trump' - MSN

CBS All-Access' "The Good Wife" spinoff series, "The Good Fight," is in hot water after tweeting an image from one of its episodes that shows a list of "target words" including: "Assassinate," "President" and "Trump" in a red column and a second orange column that started with the words: "Mar-a-Lago" and "Eliminate." The episode itself focuses on the character Diane (Christine Baranski) joining a female resistance group tasked with dragging down Donald Trump's approval ratings.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, did not provide context for the list. Instead, it asked viewers if they could find the Easter egg. The egg reference ended up being linked to Kalinda, a popular character in "The Good Wife," whose name was in the second column.

The tweet hit a nerve with some viewers not amused by the Trump reference. Some pledged to stop watching the show while others threatened to contact the authorities. (Read more)
- Father, we pray that You will reveal the blatant violence that is being pursued against the President and not only protect him, but bring conviction to those who are perpetrating it. Let Your Spirit bring justice and this network stop its hateful "ideas."

"You have delivered me from the violent man." (Psalm 18:48c)

6. UNDERCOVER EXPOSÉ: New Project Veritas Video Shows Shocking Extent of Voter Fraud During 2018 Midterms- Hannity

Unbelievable undercover footage released by Project Veritas this week highlights the disturbing impact of voter fraud on the 2018 midterm elections, with new video showing New Hampshire residents admitting they cast their ballot multiple times in different states.

"Project Veritas has released undercover footage of a New Hampshire resident admitting to voting twice in the 2018 general election. Robert Bell, an Atkinson, New Hampshire resident, cast an early voting ballot in Florida and voted in person at the polls in New Hampshire. This is the third video in a series Project Veritas has released exposing the faces of voter fraud," writes Project Veritas. (Read more)

7. Sanders: Plan to send illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities under 'thorough' review - Fox News

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed to "Fox News Sunday" that President Trump's prospective plan to send illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities is undergoing a "complete and thorough review," days after Democrats who have fought to protect illegal immigrants from federal authorities characterized the possible move as a dangerous stunt.

Sanders also made clear that Trump has no intention of backing down from his fierce criticism of Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, who last month appeared to downplay the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Trump had responded to reports Friday that his administration proposed releasing immigrant detainees to sanctuary cities by not only confirming the plan, but saying it remains under "strong" consideration. Further, the president tweeted that relocating illegal immigrants to these districts should make the "Radical Left" happy. "Nobody thinks that this is the ideal solution," Sanders began. "But until we can fix the crisis at the border, we have to look at all options. This is one of them. Whether or not it moves forward -- that's yet to be determined. This was raised at a staff level, initially, and pushed back on. The president wants us to explore it again, and that's being done, and they're doing a complete and thorough review. " (Read more)
- Lord, if this plan is from You, then we ask that it be implemented. If it is not from You we ask that it fall to the ground. May our President find Your wisdom and foresight to know what to do on this issue.

"And of the sons of Issachar, having understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads are two hundred, and all their brethren are at their command." (1 Chronicles 12:32)

8. Exclusive-Study: Over 10K Illegal Aliens in U.S. from Terrorist-Sponsored Countries - Breitbart

Newly obtained federal data from the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) reveals there to be over 10,000 illegal aliens living in the U.S. from countries that are state sponsors of terrorism, including Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Sudan.

All of the illegal aliens have either been already ordered deported by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or have pending deportation orders, despite remaining in the U.S. The overwhelming majority of illegal aliens, once resettled in the interior of the country, are never deported. There are more than 1.7 million illegal aliens living in the U.S. who have not been deported despite having been ordered deported or having pending deportation orders.

In an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot's Breitbart News Tonight, IRLI Executive Director Dale Wilcox said the issue of having thousands of illegal aliens living in the U.S. from countries that sponsor terrorism is a "very dangerous situation." (Read more)

9. Pro-Life Movement Wins Big in Kentucky as Court Upholds State's Ultrasound Law - CBN

Pro-lifers in Kentucky are rejoicing after a three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the state's Ultrasound Informed Consent Act. The act requires abortionists to grant women the opportunity to see their ultrasound images of their unborn child and play the audio of the child's heartbeat before performing the abortion.

Originally blocked by US District Court Judge David Hale in 2017 when passed, the law is now able to be enforced.

"Today is a historic day, as Kentucky continues to lead the charge in implementing strong pro-life protections for its citizens," stated Gov. Matt Bevin (R-KY) according to LifeSite. "We applaud the decision by the Sixth Circuit, which affirms the commonsense notion that patients should be well equipped with relevant information before making important medical decisions." (Read more)
- Lord, we thank You for this victory, and ask that You preserve it from attacks by those who hate You.

"For the Lord preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person." (Psalm 21:23b,c)

10. Iran Restarts Advanced Nuclear Work - Free Beacon

Iranian leaders have authorized and begun spinning a set of advanced nuclear centrifuges to mark the country's Iran National Nuclear Day, which leaders said is in honor "of all the jihadi efforts of our country's nuclear industrialists."

In unveiling a set of IR-6 nuclear centrifuges, which are the key component in enriching uranium to amounts that could be used as fuel for a weapon, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani claimed that Tehran has "acquired missiles and weapons you could not have imagined."

"Today, and throughout the past year, we have launched 114 new technologies via the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran," Rouhani was quoted as saying in remarks translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI. "This is the message to the world: You have not succeeded and you will not succeed in preventing the progress and development of the Iranian people and [their] scientists. If yesterday you feared our IR-1 centrifuges-well, here you go!

As the nuclear centrifuges began to spin, Rouhani reportedly urged those in attendance at the event to "gloriously wave your [Iranian flags]" in "honor of all the jihadi efforts of our country's nuclear industrialists," according to MEMRI. (Read more)

- Father, we pray against these startups and ask that You destroy every attempt by Iran to continue their plans.

"He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man." (Psalm 18:48)

Standing against human trafficking - Part 1

t's been three years since Pastor William Agbeti's ministry saved a young Ghanaian girl from being lured into sex slavery and child labor in Dubai. Here is his report on her progress: "With the support of the DAILY JOT, we have managed to put her out of harm's way to pursue vocational training. Soon she will graduate to start a dignified life. Free the Slaves, a nonprofit organization committed to the eradication of modern-day slavery puts the global modern-day slave trade at a whopping $150 billion per annum, generated by some 40 million slaves, including Ghanaian girls! FTS categorizes modern-day slavery into four sub-sectors: child prostitution, forced marriage, human trafficking and child labor.

"In 2018, forensic investigators from the US arrived in Ghana at the invitation of the government to assist the country in resolving developments involving a growing number of missing and kidnapped Ghanaian girls. Investigations we carried out on our own revealed the operation of a syndicate, a member of which approached our young girl to lure her into modern-day slavery. These miscreants look for young and exceptionally beautiful girls faced with social challenges like parental neglect, unemployment, inability to go to school, financial hardship, hunger, lack of accommodation and other forms of hardship. The most sought for girls are virgins, the preferred choice of many slave owners!
"Under the guise of lucrative employment opportunities overseas, many of these virgins are sold to wealthy individuals in the Middle East. Sometimes, these girls are auctioned at secret locations or cleverly presented for bidding on social media sites! Those who have passports are told to report at the Accra International Airport for sponsored direct flights to the Middle East. Our very fortunate girl was shown a place in Accra to report at and join a bus to a neighboring country, on route to Dubai. We reported the place and the people behind its operations to the authorities. Fortunately, as she went about preparing for what would have been a fateful journey of no return, she ran into our Ministry and was saved!
"Testimonies from some slave girls reaching us in Ghana via mobile phone and WhatsApp voice messages from the Middle East, indicate that many of those who make the journey end up enslaved, sexed multiple times a day, sick and dead. Those who are able to send such distress messages back home can't be helped because they can't be traced. They don't even know their locations or the names of the slave masters. When they become sick, they are not treated. When they die, their bodies are dumped." As you can see, this is just one of the many facets of our ministry work in Ghana. Christ said in Luke 17:2, "It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones." Our goal is to prevent the offense in the first place.

Have a blessed and powerful day,

Notre Dame Burns

The Cathedral of Notre Dame Burns

- Father, tonight we lift up the people of Paris, of France, and throughout the world who have been shaken by this tragedy at Notre Dame Cathedral. We ask that each one would turn to You, to find the sure foundation of Your mercy and Your love in the midst of this time of shaking. May many hardened hearts now be softened as each one repents and comes to find You as their Savior and their Lord. Amen.

"O, Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy." (Habakkuk 3:2)

NDP Prayer Request

Please Lift Up the National Observance of the National Day of Prayer in Intercession

The following is a message we received today from the President of the National Day of Prayer, Dr. Ronnie Floyd:

Each observance of the National Day of Prayer on May 2 is important and each one is supported in prayer by its organizers and our entire volunteer force.

But, the National Observance of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2 needs to be prayed for diligently and continually. Last year's observance in Washington, DC, in National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol Building, has been viewed over one million times on Facebook alone. To God's glory, that is one million people impacted by the prayers of God's people.

This year, we pray the favor of the Lord upon this gathering in an even greater way. From this esteemed setting in the United States Capitol Building, this two-hour prayer service for America can be viewed on Facebook Live, streamed live from our website, and it will be broadcast around the entire world through DayStar Television Network, God TV, and Brio TV. It will also be heard via numerous radio stations around America.

We encourage you to support and attend a prayer observance in your local area, whether it is during the day or evening. If you attend a daytime observance, invite others to join you in watching the National Observance that evening.

IN THE SWEET BY AND BY

"In My Father's house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you." (John 14:2)

Lyrics

There's a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

Refrain

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blessed;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days.

About the Author:

Words: Sanford F. Bennett, 1868.

Melody: Joseph P. Webster

About the Hymn:

Mr. Webster, like many musicians, was of an exceedingly nervous and sensitive nature, and subject to periods of depression, in which he looked upon the dark side of all things in life. I had learned his peculiarities so well that on meeting him I could tell at a glance if he was melancholy, and had found that I could rouse him up by giving him a new song to work on.
He came into my place of business [in Elkhorn, Wisconsin], walked down to the stove, and turned his back on me without speaking. I was at my desk. Turning to him, I said, "Webster, what is the matter now?" "It's no matter," he replied, "it will be all right by and by."
The idea of the hymn came me like a flash of sunlight, and I replied, "The Sweet By and By! Why would not that make a good hymn?" "Maybe it would," he said indifferently. Turning to my desk I penned the words of the hymn as fast as I could write. I handed the words to Webster. As he read his eyes kindled, and stepping to the desk he began writing the notes. Taking his violin, he played the melody and then jotted down the notes of the chorus. It was not over thirty minutes from the time I took my pen to write the words before two friends with Webster and myself were singing the hymn.

Signs and Wonders

BIG SUNSPOT PRODUCES "OCEAN SURF" SOUNDS

If you have a shortwave radio, you might have heard some unusual sounds this week. Big sunspot AR2738 is producing strong bursts of radio static. "They sound like ocean surf," says Thomas Ashcraft, who recorded this specimen on April 13th using an amateur radio telescope in New Mexico.
These radio sounds are caused by beams of electrons--in this case, accelerated by B-class explosions in the sunspot's magnetic canopy. As the electrons slice through the sun's atmosphere, they generate a ripple of plasma waves and radio emissions detectable on Earth 93 million miles away. Astronomers classify solar radio bursts into five types; Ashcraft's recording captured a Type III.

"There have been a lot of these sounds over the past week, and they appear to be intensifying now that the sunspot is directly facing Earth," says Ashcraft. (Spaceweather.com) Read more.

Update: Death toll from tornadoes, severe storms in South rises to 8 - Fox News

At least eight people - including three children - were reported dead by Sunday after powerful storms unleashed tornadoes and flooding across much of the southern U.S.

The severe weather left dozens of others injured, and roughly 60,000 people were without power as of Sunday evening in Texas, Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi combined.

Franklin, Texas, roughly 125 miles south of Dallas, was almost entirely flattened by a tornado, according to the Robertson County Sheriff's Office.

The tornado, which was rated an EF-3 with winds of about 140 mph by the National Weather Service (NWS), destroyed 55 homes, a church, four businesses, a duplex and part of the local housing authority building, officials said.

Pollok, Texas, a little over 100 miles northeast of Franklin, saw two children, aged 3 and 8, killed by a falling tree that landed on the vehicle in which they were riding on Saturday. (Read more)
- Lord, may Your love touch the hearts of those affected by the severe weather all across the Midwest and south. From tornadoes to weather "bombs" that brought snow, we ask for Your Spirit to envelop the people and draw them to Yourself.

Giant Pro-Life Billboard on Display in Times Square: "I Am the Pro-Life Generation"

What does it say?

The massive billboard features pro-life women expressing their opposition to leading abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, along with other well-known slogans often used by the pro-life community. The women are depicted holding signs that read "I Don't Trust Planned Parenthood," "I Reject Abortion Extremism" and "I Am the Pro-Life Generation."
Why did Students for Life do this? Given the enormous backlash to New York's recent passing of a bill that would widely legalize late-term abortion, it is no wonder that this location was a list-topper for the pro-life group.

About CHPP

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
