The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

"There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all men." (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

The Daily Brief

1. Explosion at Power Plant Responsible for D.C. Area Outages; White House and State Department Affected - CBSNews/local

The White House, State Department and areas throughout D.C. and Maryland lost power Tuesday afternoon due to a an explosion at an area power plant. The power went out at the White House for nearly 10 seconds while the State Department conducted its press briefing in the dark. The Justice Department's power also went down.

WNEW'S Chuck Carroll reports D.C. Homeland Security officials believe an explosion at a SMECO power facility in southern Maryland caused the outages. They say there is no indication of terrorism behind the outages. (Read more)

- We thank You Lord that there were no injuries and that the power was restored in a timely manner. But this situation just proves how vulnerable we are without You looking out for us. Thank You for keeping Your hand upon us. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-"You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet." (Psalm 8:6)

2. Russian Hackers Reached White House, State Dept. Computers - Newsmax

Russian hackers have been able to penetrate the White House's computer system and see non-classified emails, CNN reports.

The hack didn't get access to classified materials, government sources told CNN, but still was able to see sensitive information such as real-time nonpublic details of the president's schedule.

Hackers first managed to hack into State Department computers and tricked an employee into providing information that gave them a back door into the White House system and eventually the Oval Office. Hackers have tried various tricks to get into US government systems over the years, including dropping thumb drives in parking lots and government restrooms, where unsuspecting personnel pick them up and put them in home and work computers. (Read more)

See also this report from CNN.

- Abba Father God, only You can be our covering and our protection from these hacker attacks. As we come before You in repentance, we ask that You would allow us to abide in You . . . in the shelter of Your tent (covering). Thank You, Abba, for hearing our prayers. Please grant Your wisdom to those who can protect us from these horrible events. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings." (Psalm 61:4)

3. Top Spy: Hillary's Emails 'Likely' Hacked by China, Russia, Iran - Weekly Standard

A top intelligence official under President Obama, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, says that the chances Hillary Clinton's private emails were hacked is "very high." Flynn, who ran the Defense Intelligence Agency but is now retired, called it hackings "likely."

Flynn made the comments to Megyn Kelly last night on Fox News:

"As a military officer, if I said I was doing something for convenience's sake to the soldiers that I was leading and it was solely for my convenience instead of their, you know, their welfare, I should be relieved of duty. I would expect to be fired," Flynn said. "You know, it's one of those things where if it doesn't feel good it probably isn't. And this one doesn't feel good to me." (Read more)

- Abba Father, Hillary Clinton needs to submit to our laws and be fully investigated for her private emails while she was Secretary of State. If she is going to be the Democratic nominee, Lord, expose all the hidden things about Hillary. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them." (Ephesians 5:11)

4. Federal judge denies request to lift hold on Obama immigration action - Fox News

A federal judge in Texas denied a Justice Department request Tuesday to lift his temporary hold on President Obama's executive action shielding potentially millions of illegal immigrants from deportation.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen refused to set aside his Feb. 16 decision granting a preliminary injunction requested by 26 states. The U.S. government wants the injunction lifted -- allowing Obama's action to proceed -- while it appeals Hanen's ruling to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court in New Orleans.

In his order Tuesday denying the government's request, Hanen said the government hasn't "shown any credible reason for why this Directive necessitates immediate implementation."

There was no immediate comment from the White House. (Read more)

- Father God, we lift up a chorus of praise that a second federal judge has now ruled to deny the government's request, so that Obama's executive action on amnesty remains, for now, null and void. We ask, in repentance, that Your Holy angels stand guard over this decision, and that no further judicial action be taken in this matter. Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer." (Psalm 61:1)

5. Kansas governor signs nation's 1st ban on abortion procedure - Miami Herald

Kansas became the first state Tuesday to ban a common second-trimester abortion procedure that critics describe as dismembering a fetus.

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback, a strong abortion opponent, signed a bill imposing the ban, and the new law takes effect July 1. He and the National Right to Life Committee, which drafted the measure, said they hope Kansas' example spurs other states to enact such laws. Already, the measure has been introduced in Missouri, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

"This law has the power to transform the landscape of abortion policy in the United States," committee president Carol Tobias said in a statement. (Read more)

- Lord God, once again we offer up a chorus of praise before Your Throne of Grace for this bold action on the part of Governor Sam Brownback and the people of the State of Kansas. We ask that many other states would follow their lead and that, in the end, all abortions would be rendered illegal throughout this great nation that You have given us to care for. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord!" (Psalm 150:6)

6. Officials fire white SC officer charged with murder in shooting death of black man - Fox News

A South Carolina police officer arrested and charged with murder in the weekend shooting death of a motorist has been fired from his police department, officials announced Wednesday.

City Patrolman Michael Thomas Slager, who is white, was taken into custody after law enforcement officials saw a video of him shooting 50-year-old Walter Scott, who is black, in the back as he ran away. Slager, 33, a five-year veteran of the North Charleston force, was denied bond at a brief first appearance hearing Tuesday. If convicted, he faces 30 years to life in prison. (Read more)

- Father God, we ask that justice be rendered in this case. We also come against the spirit of revenge that would try to gain ground in our inner cities across the land, causing rioting in retaliation. We ask for Your mantle of calm to descend upon our nation today, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13)

7. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev found guilty in Boston Marathon bombing - Fox News

Jurors in the Boston Marathon bomber trial found Dzhokhar Tsarnaev guilty Wednesday, and will have to decide whether he should receive the death penalty.

The verdict was reached Wednesday afternoon after a little over 12 hours of deliberations over two days.

Tsarnaev's lawyers admitted he participated in the bombings, but said his now-dead older brother was the driving force behind the 2013 deadly attack. (Read more)

- Father God, once again, we ask that justice be rendered in this case. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13)

8. NORAD Head: Russian Bombers Send a Message - Defense News

Russia is using its long-range bomber fleet to send a message to the US, and the general charged with protecting the homeland says those flights will continue, or even expand, in the coming months.

Adm. Bill Gortney said the flights by long-range Russian bombers are "messaging" for the US, a reminder that there is another nation capable of power projection.

"They are messaging us. They are messaging us that they are a global power," Gortney told reporters Tuesday, before noting that "we do the same sort of thing."

Gortney said the number of Russian flights near the US has gone up since tensions between the two nations began to rise following the former's invasion and annexation of Crimea last February, with North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) keeping a close eye on where those planes are and what they are doing.

"We watch very carefully what they are doing," he said. "They are adhering to international standards that are required by all airplanes that are out there, and everybody is flying in a professional manner in their side and our side as we watch very closely." (Read more)

- Lord God, just as the Pentagon is watching this situation carefully, so we, Your watchmen, are doing the same. We ask that You quicken to each of us when real danger is afoot, that we might "cut them off at the pass" using the weapon of our warfare: Your Word. Thank You, Lord, in Jesus' name, amen.

- "Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets." (Amos 3:7)

9. US, France, Germany seek help from India to evacuate nationals stuck in Yemen - First Post

After Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had said on Monday that 23 countries had requested India for help to evacuate their nationals from strife torn Yemen, MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted the list of countries - including United States, Germany, France and Sweden - that had asked for help. (Read more)

- Abba Father, the situation in Yemen is dire. We thank You for the change of heart by the State Department to ask India to evacuate our citizens out of Yemen. We stand in the gap and repent for our State Department's lack of interest for our citizens in Yemen. Abba forgive them. Abba have mercy on those in Yemen that cannot leave. We ask that You would answer the requests of the Red Cross and all other entities that want to bring in water, food and medicine, and allow them to come in to Yemen. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in my name He may give to you." (John 15:16)

10. Islamic State blows up Syrian church on Easter Sunday - Jerusalem Post

Islamic State insurgents blew up an 80-year-old church in Syria's northeastern province of Hassaka on Easter Sunday, Syrian state news agency SANA said. SANA, which did not report any casualties, said the militants had planted explosives inside the Church of the Virgin Mary in Tel Nasri, an Assyrian village in an area where Christian and Kurdish militia have been battling Islamic State. (Read more)

- Abba, we are saddened by the loss of the Syrian church, but we give glory to God that no one was killed in this ruthless lack of honor to the house of God. Abba, we pray for the defeat of this demonic ISIS. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, 'God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.' Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim." (I Chronicles 14:11)

2. Report: Iran Sends Navy Vessels Near Yemen Amid Airstrikes - AP

Iran dispatched a naval destroyer and another vessel Wednesday to waters near Yemen as the United States quickened weapons supply to the Saudi-led coalition striking rebels there, underlining how foreign powers are deepening their involvement in the conflict.

Iran's English-language state broadcaster Press TV quoted Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari as saying the ships would be part of an anti-piracy campaign "safeguarding naval routes for vessels in the region."

The maneuver comes amid an intense Saudi-led Gulf Arab air campaign targeting the Yemeni rebels, known as Houthis, who come from a Shiite sect. Critics say Shiite power Iran backs the Houthis, though both the Islamic Republic and the rebels deny any direct military assistance. (Read more)

5. IDF to Sink $25M into New Rocket Alert Systems for Civilians - Israel National News

The IDF and Home Front Command are expected to invest 100 million shekel (about $25 million) into "Code Red" and civilian warning systems against incoming rockets in 2015, NRG reports Monday - after the publication of an explosive report predicting 1,500 rockets raining down on Israel per day in the event of another war with Hezbollah.

Among other measures, the IDF has completed an official warning app, according to a military source. Dubbed "i-Oref", it would alert Israelis to incoming rockets in 3 different areas of the country of the user's choosing, and warns as well how far away the rocket is at the time of the alert. Apps were a prime source of information regarding rockets during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza and likely saved thousands of lives.

Also under development is a warning system to "push" messages to smartphones, the same way news agencies do with big headlines. (Read more)

Iran and six world powers - the United States, Britain, Russia, France, Germany, and Chine - reached a framework agreement on Thursday which would effectively end Tehran's nuclear research for at least ten years and also gradually remove Western sanctions.

In a statement issued at the end of a cabinet meeting in Riyadh, ministers said they hoped the final agreement, expected to be signed by the end of June, would rid the region of nuclear weapons. (Read more)

9. Mahmoud Abbas rejects tax transfer from Israel - The Week

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday he will not accept hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenues from Israel, since the government kept one-third of the amount to pay for services like electricity and water.

" We are returning the money," Abbas said at a rally in Ramallah. "Either they give it to us in full or we go to the arbitration or to the ICC [International Criminal Court]. PART ONE (with prayers)

1. Former top CIA official: Here's Iran's grand strategy - Business Insider

The world recently witnessed another moment of such candor - and it came just weeks before Iran and world powers agreed to a framework for how to handle Iran's nuclear program over the next 10 to 15 years. Last month, a senior adviser to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke at a conference in Tehran on "Iran, Nationalism, History, and Culture." The adviser made clear that Iran's ambition is to become a regional hegemon - in short, to reestablish the Persian empire. (Read more)

- Lord, we are glad to know that none of this surprises You. You are still on the throne and prayer changes things! Lord, we do not understand why our government wants to make a nuclear agreement with Iran that is totally in their favor and to their advantage. Is there no one in this administration aware of what Iran is really planning? Lord, have mercy on us and protect and deliver us from all evil whether within our country or outside. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us." (II Corinthians 1:9-10)

2. Iranian FM reportedly says 'no cameras' in nuke sites after deal - Baltimore Jewish Life

Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Tuesday told members of parliament that the country will not allow world powers to monitor its nuclear installations through cameras. Meanwhile the Lausanne agreement won a stamp of disapproval - from an Israeli perspective - with an expression of support by Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran's hard-line Revolutionary Guards. Jafari said the deal "defends the rights" of the Iranian nation.

Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz said the US president's statements of support for Israel and his admission that he will consider it a "fundamental failure" of his presidency if Israel emerges weakened from an agreement between world powers and Iran, but added "no assistance and no backing up will help if Iran acquires nuclear weapons." (Read more)

- Abba Father, the Iranians are using the excuse to not have cameras in their nuclear sites because they do not want the identity of their nuclear scientists made known as one was assassinated last year. Abba this is another excuse to not meet the terms of the 'outline'. We call it an 'outline' because it is not yet an agreement. How can we trust what the President says about protecting Israel, when his actions say otherwise? Lord, we ask that You would take full control of the Lausanne agreement. Abba if this 'outline' is not Your will, then please defeat it. In His Name we pray, Amen.

- "But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.'" (Leviticus 26:45)

3. The unfolding farce of Obama's deal with Iran - Times of Israel

Time and again, President Barack Obama and his indefatigable secretary of state promised that they and their P5+1 negotiating partners would not sign a bad deal with Iran on its nuclear weapons program

And, lo, they were as good as their word.

They didn't sign a bad framework deal in Lausanne, Switzerland, last week. They just agreed on one in principle, and left it unsigned, allowing for multiple conflicting interpretations.

It was immediately plain that the US-led negotiators had mislaid their moral compass, and indeed any clear sight of their own self-interest, when they agreed to conduct the negotiations as scheduled even as Iran's ruthless, arrogant leader Ali Khamenei was intoning his "Death to America" mantra, and one of his military chiefs was declaring that Israel's destruction is "nonnegotiable. (Read more)

- Father God, again we bring this entire matter to Your Hands, and leave this with You to judge and to bring in the final verdict on this supposed deal. We know that You love Israel even more than we do, and that You always have her best interests at heart. Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- " . . . I am Israel's father . . ." (Jer. 31:9)

The prophetic Persian nuke deal from the "president's" own mouth

Much has been said about the US "president's" tentative nuclear deal with Iran. There were some key components in his April 2 announcement of the tentative deal that hasn't been reported in the mainstream, and they are key to discerning the subtlety of what is being communicated. This deal represents a clear path for Iran to continue developing the ingredients it needs for a nuclear weapon and analysts point out the many holes in it that make verification nearly impossible--just like the previous decade where Iran was continuously "allowing" inspectors to verify, but never really "allowing" them to see anything meaningful. This deal could accelerate prophecy and endanger many lives along the way.

The "president" said, "Iran has agreed that it will not stockpile the materials needed to build a weapon. Even if it violated the deal, for the next decade at least, Iran would be a minimum of a year away from acquiring enough material for a bomb...And while it is always a possibility that Iran may try to cheat on the deal in the future, this framework of inspections and transparency makes it far more likely that we'll know about it if they try to cheat--and I, or future Presidents, will have preserved all of the options that are currently available to deal with it." It would appear that the "president" expects Iran to cheat, and that the world will know about it--certainly, Israel will know immediately. The potential loss of life is immeasurable.

Congress does not agree with the "president." He said, "This is a deal between Iran, the United States of America, and the major powers in the world--including some of our closest allies. If Congress kills this deal--not based on expert analysis, and without offering any reasonable alternative--then it's the United States that will be blamed for the failure of diplomacy. International unity will collapse, and the path to conflict will widen." The fact is that there has been much expert analysis and the experts agree that this is a bad deal. The Prime Minister of Israel, whose nation hangs in the balance of such reckless action, has repeatedly said it is a bad deal and has offered both a reasonable and viable alternative.

The "president" discounts Israel's objections, saying, merely, "It's no secret that the Israeli Prime Minister and I don't agree about whether the United States should move forward with a peaceful resolution to the Iranian issue. If, in fact, Prime Minister Netanyahu is looking for the most effective way to ensure Iran doesn't get a nuclear weapon, this is the best option." In this option, the US "president" has emboldened the enemies of the Lord by empowering a major player in end time prophecy, Persia--modern day Iran. Even as the Lord chastised false prophets in Ezekiel 13:10 saying, "Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace," the US "president" is trying to seduce an undiscerning world.

Replacing God with Government

The Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that a record 93.2 million Americans did not participate in the labor force in March. The entire US population is slightly less than 321 million, with almost a third of Americans not working. The Census Bureau says that persons under 18 comprise about 74 million, meaning that those above 18 no longer working are almost 40% of America's workforce. Foreign-born workers total 24.7 million of those working. They have gained more than 1.9 million jobs since the current Administration took office while native born workers have lost approximately 1.1 million jobs during the same period. Forbes reports that 52% of Americans receive government assistance.

CNSNEWS.com reported: "In 2012, according to the Census Bureau, there were 103,087,000 full-time year-round workers in the United States (including 16,606,000 full-time year-round government workers). Thus, the welfare-takers outnumbered full-time year-round workers by 6,544,000." When the occupant of the Oval Office was elected in the fourth quarter of 2008, there were 96,197,000 people in households taking benefits from one or more federal welfare programs. By the fourth quarter of 2012, four years later, that number had grown by 13,434,000. Since 2012, we had more people on some sort of government assistance than were working--not counting those out of a job and not on welfare. It's gotten worse.

These statistics should be alarming because they indicate a trend where America has become a socialist nation, where over half the people receive government assistance in some form and foreign workers are displacing native-born workers who are so discouraged that they have given up finding a job, many finding no option but to receive government assistance. In addition, the government is becoming an integral provider for the bulk of Americans. These two phenomena are not only present a danger to America's national security, but also to her spiritual security. Socialism, by its own definition and manifesto, seeks to replace God with government.

In Luke 10:7, Jesus said "the laborer is worthy of his wages." 2 Thessalonians 3:10 says, "...if any would not work, neither should he eat." Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:13, "...every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God." Even after the Lord returns, people will, as shown in Isaiah 65:21-23, "They shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain." Socialism is against God's plan for your life. It is a bane to the existence of America.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Obama's "Fundamental Misjudgment"

Obama's "Fundamental Misjudgment"

During an interview with National Public Radio this morning, President Obama attempted to explain why he opposes linking the Iranian nuclear deal to formal recognition of Israel's right to exist. See if you can follow his logic:

"The notion that we could condition Iran not getting nuclear weapons . . . on Iran recognizing Israel is really akin to saying that we won't sign a deal unless the nature of the Iranian regime completely transforms. And that is, I think, a fundamental misjudgment. . . . We want Iran not to have nuclear weapons precisely because we can't bank on the nature of the regime changing."

Obama just admitted that the Iranian regime is so radical there is no chance it would ever concede the right of Israel to exist. He is right, of course. This regime promises another Holocaust after all.

Given that, how can Obama or anyone else trust that regime to keep its promises in a nuclear deal, even if the deal were good, which it isn't?

In what world does this make any sense?

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

ONCE I WAS DEAD IN SIN

" . . . because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved." (Eph. 2:4)

In these perilous times, when all that can be shaken is being shaken, let us return to the "faith of our fathers" and sing the hymns and songs of old.

May we each draw strength in our own time, as we "dig the wells of treasure" to draw upon the strength that carried our ancestors through their own perilous times. Amen.

Lyrics:

Once I was dead in sin,
And hope within me died;
But now I'm dead to sin,
With Christ I'm crucified.

And can it be that "He loved me,
And gave Himself for me"?

O height I cannot reach!
O depth I cannot sound!
O love, O boundless love,
In my Redeemer found!

And can it be that "He loved me,
And gave Himself for me"?

I live-and yet not I,
But Christ that lives in me,
Who from the law of sin
And death has made me free.

And can it be that "He loved me,
And gave Himself for me"?

MARS MICROBES AND MOON FLOWERS

Astrobiologists have long wondered if halobacteria, a terrestrial extremophile with a special talent for shielding itself from UV radiation, could survive on the planet Mars. To find the answer, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus have been flying halobacteria onboard balloons to the top of Earth's atmosphere. On April 1st, these samples reached an altitude of 110,500 feet.

During the flight, onboard sensors registered temperatures as low as -58 C, air pressures of 1% sea level, and cosmic radiation levels 40 times Earth-normal. Those are conditions akin to the planet Mars. Two and a half hours after they were launched, the bacteria landed near the Eureka Dunes in Death Valley National Park. This means they experienced a 120 C swing in temperature, a 100-fold change in air pressure, and a 40-fold surge of radiation.
In addition to halobactera, the students also flew a variety of seeds including Moon flowers (shown above), Jupiter beets, sunflowers, jalapeno peppers, cherry tomatoes, cosmos flowers, corn and carrots. "Great Is The Lord"

sung by Jack Marti

"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
In the city of our God,
In His holy mountain.
Beautiful in elevation,
The joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,
The city of the great King."

(Proverbs 15:29)
