"Praying for All in Authority"

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty . . ." (Zephaniah 3:17)

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty . . ." (Zephaniah 3:17)

The Daily Brief

1. ISIS supporters arrested in Minnesota, shedding light on recruiting, U.S. says -CNN

A group of six young Minnesota men conspired to sneak into Syria and join ISIS "by any means necessary," federal prosecutors said Monday. The group of friends, ages 19 to 21, were arrested Sunday.

"What's remarkable about this case was that nothing stopped these defendants from plotting their goal," said U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger of the District of Minnesota. "They were not confused young men. They were not easily influenced. These are focused men who are (were?) intent on joining a terrorist organization by any means possible."

Recruiting for the ISIS terrorist network is a particular problem in Minnesota's community of Somali immigrants. "People often ask who is doing the recruiting and when will we catch the person responsible," Luger said. "But it is not that simple. In today's case the answer is that this group of friends is recruiting each other. They're engaged in what we describe as peer-to-peer recruiting." (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank You that these six potential terrorists were apprehended before they could join ISIS. We know, Lord God, that there are many more young men (and women) in our land who have the same agenda. We come to You, O Holy and Omniscient God, asking that You help us "root out" these villains before they can do us harm. Help us, too, Father God, to reach them for You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen and amen.

- "He uncovers deep things out of darkness, And brings the shadow of death to light." (Job 12:22)

2. Ousted Egyptian president Morsi gets 20 years in prison - Times of Israel

An Egyptian criminal court on Tuesday sentenced ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi to 20 years in prison over the killing of protesters in 2012, the first verdict to be issued against the country's first freely elected leader.

The Cairo Criminal Court issued the verdict as Morsi and other defendants in the case - mostly Muslim Brotherhood leaders - stood in a soundproof glass cage inside a makeshift courtroom at Egypt's national police academy.

The case stems from violence outside the presidential palace in December 2012. Morsi's supporters attacked opposition protesters, sparking clashes that killed at least 10 people. (Read more)

- Lord God in Heaven, we thank You that this man, who was once a dictator serving the interests of the Moslem Brotherhood rather than those of his people, has now been deposed and brought to justice. May we, as Americans, take heed, and fear not to "rise up" when confronted by wickedness in high places, knowing O Lord, that You are our buckler and our Shield. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!" (Isaiah 30:18)

3. Assad: ISIS Was Created in Iraq, 'Under the Supervision of the Americans - CNS News

"ISIS was created in Iraq in 2006 under the supervision of the Americans," he said, according to a transcript provided by the official SANA news agency. "I wasn't controlling Iraq. The Americans controlled Iraq, and ISIS came from Iraq to Syria, because chaos is contagious." (Read more)

-Abba Father, Assad twists the truth and embroiders lies. His only truth is that chaos is contagious. ISIS arose from the debacle of the Iraqi government after the US pulled out its forces. Lord, we ask that the finger of God would stay on this area of the Middle East. Abba, we humbly ask that You would contain this fury. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-You destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit. (Psalm 5:6)

4. Greek banks 'close to collapse' as debt soars - The Times

Greek debt costs leapt yesterday as the French central bank warned that the banking sector in Athens is on the verge of collapse. The euro fell 0.6 per cent to $1.074 after International Monetary Fund and G20 meetings in Washington held out little progress on the prospect of Greece satisfying creditors to unlock (Euro) 7.2 billion in financial aid by the end of the month.   (Read more)

- Abba Father, Forgive the Greek government for its corruption, and for promising more than it could deliver. Forgive the Greek people for fraud toward their government, and evading taxes. The Greeks have chosen to ask their government to provide for all their needs. Only You can provide for all our needs. I pray that the people and government of the United States take note of what can happen in a socialistic society. Lord, have mercy on the Greeks, and may they turn from their wicked ways. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-O naive ones, understand prudence; And, O fools, understand wisdom. (Proverbs 8:5)

5. Senators announce deal on anti-trafficking bill, clearing way for vote on AG nominee - Fox News

Senate leaders say they have reached a deal that could allow for a long-delayed vote in the coming days on the nomination of Loretta Lynch for attorney general.

The nomination has been held up amid a bitter dispute on Capitol Hill over an anti-human trafficking bill. But leaders on Tuesday announced a bipartisan proposal, which could in turn allow for Lynch's nomination to be taken up soon.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Tuesday that "as soon as" they finish the trafficking bill, they'll move to the attorney general vote -- "hopefully in the next day or so."

Though Lynch faces heavy Republican opposition in her bid to succeed Eric Holder at the helm of the Justice Department, she may have just enough support to clear the 60-vote threshold and secure confirmation from the Senate. (Read more)

- Lord God, if it is not Your will that this nomination go through, then let it be done according to Your will. We place a line of the Blood of Jesus around this candidate, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

6. In Historic Meeting with Rabbis, Pope Francis Decries Rising Anti-Semitism in Europe - Breitbart

In a historic encounter, Francis met in the Vatican with a delegation from the Conference of European Rabbis, the first time a pope has ever met with the Conference. The Pope underscored that all Christians "must be firm in deploring all forms of anti-Semitism, and in showing their solidarity with the Jewish people." (Read more)

-Abba Father, we praise You for the coming together of Your people, Christians and Jews; and Pope Francisco's strong stand against anti-Semitism. Abba, we repent for submitting to the demons of the Human Secularism and anti Semitism. We cover with the Blood of the Lamb those evil sins. We ask for Your forgiveness. We pray that Your people that are called by Your name will put an end to anti-Semitism; and render the doctrine of Human Secularism null and void. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-4) and My people [a]who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

7. PayPal wants to implant passwords in your stomach and your brain - Telegraph

PayPal is working on a new generation of embeddable, injectable and ingestible devices that could replace passwords as a means of identification. Jonathan LeBlanc, PayPal's global head of developer evangelism, claims that these devices could include brain implants, wafer-thin silicon chips that can be embedded into the skin, and ingestible devices with batteries that are powered by stomach acid.

- Abba Father, Thank You for Your word and Your warning in the Book of Revelation. The signs are obvious to us who know Your word. The end is near. Come Lord Jesus!

-And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, [m]to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17) and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18) Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is [n]six hundred and sixty-six. (Rev. 13:16-18)

- Abba Father, We pray for Your mercy and compassion on the Aussies. Lord, quiet the winds and call back the rains. We ask that You would comfort them all in Your great mercy. In His Name we pray, Amen.

-And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:25)

9. Mysterious 'supervoid' in space is largest object ever discovered, scientists claim - The Telegraph

Astronomers have discovered a curious empty section of space which is missing around 10,000 galaxies. The 'supervoid', which is 1.8 billion light-years across, is the largest known structure ever discovered in the universe but scientists are baffled about what it is and why it is so barren. (Read more)

- Father, thank You for Your creation, and that we continue to find new discoveries such as this mysterious "supervoid". You are the Creator of the universe, and we worship You.

- He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:17)

10. DEA Chief Michele Leonhart to Step Down - Wall Street Journal

The head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has decided to resign amid mounting disagreements with the Obama administration on drug and criminal-justice policy, and intense criticism of her handling of a sex-party scandal involving DEA agents.

Michele Leonhart, who has led the agency since 2007, has been under growing pressure to depart. Her hold on the job has been precarious for more than a year following her apparent discomfort with the Obama administration's acceptance of laws in some states decriminalizing marijuana.

She also distanced herself from the Justice Department's effort to scale back some prison sentences for nonviolent drug crimes.(Read more)

- Lord God, even now, we ask that Ms. Leonhart's replacement be only the man or woman of Your choosing. We ask in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:14)

The Middle East in Focus

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you." (Isaiah 54:10)

1. Holocaust deniers gather in secret London conference - Times of Israel

A gathering in London of Holocaust deniers and Nazi sympathizers has drawn calls for police investigation, the British paper the Daily Mail reported Saturday. Held at the Orient Suite in London's four-star Grosvenor Hotel, the gathering last Saturday reportedly drew a diverse mix of speakers from the UK, Spain, Canada and the US.

"The material from this white supremacist group makes ugly reading," Jonathan Arkush, vice-president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, was quoted as saying. "On the face of it, their proceedings should be investigated to ascertain whether criminal offenses have been committed, including incitement to racial hatred." (Read more)

2. France Begins to Provide Weapons to Lebanon - Israel National News

The first French weapons from a $3 billion Saudi-funded program will arrive in Lebanon on Monday as allies seek to bolster the country's defenses against the Islamic State (ISIS) group and other jihadists pressing along its Syrian border, AFP reported Sunday.

Anti-tank guided missiles are set to arrive at an air force base in Beirut, overseen by French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and his Lebanese counterpart, Samir Mokbel.

France is expected to deliver 250 combat and transport vehicles, seven Cougar helicopters, three small corvette warships and a range of surveillance and communications equipment over four years as part of the $3 billion program.

The program is being entirely funded by Saudi Arabia, which is keen to see Lebanon's army defend its borders against jihadist groups, particularly ISIS group and the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra, instead of leaving the job to Hezbollah terrorists who are backed by its regional rival, Iran. 3. Commencing Memorial Day, PM says Jews have no future without Israel - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke Tuesday afternoon at the first official event marking Memorial Day at Jerusalem's Yad Lebanim memorial for fallen soldiers, commencing a day of national mourning ahead of the evening siren.

The event marked the opening of some 28 hours of commemorations and ceremonies nationwide to honor the 23,320 soldiers and victims who died in the nation's defense or in terror attacks. They are remembered by 16,760 bereaved families in Israel.

In the 142 years since the 1873 death of 23-year-old Jerusalem seminary student Aharon Hershele, the first name on that list, "the battlefields almost haven't changed," the PM said at the Yad Lebanim ceremony. (Read more)

4. New carpets at Dome of Rock spark religious row, rekindle Holy Ark mystery - Times of Israel

JERUSALEM (AP) - It began as a routine remodeling project: Muslim authorities replacing an old carpet worn thin by masses of worshipers at the Dome of the Rock, the iconic, gold-topped shrine that overlooks the Old City of Jerusalem.

But there is no such thing as routine remodeling when it comes to the most contested piece of real estate in Jerusalem, where the presence of a mere screwdriver can threaten to ignite religious tensions. The carpet has sparked a verbal holy war over the hilltop compound, which is revered by Jews and Muslims whose competing claims often spill over into violence.

Israeli archaeological authorities say the repairs were carried out behind their backs, and an Israeli government minister urged an immediate halt to the work, claiming it might cause irreparable damage. Frustrated Israeli researchers say previously undocumented ancient floor designs were discovered when the old carpets were peeled off, but they didn't get a chance to document the designs before workmen covered them up with the new carpet. 5. New Zealand Seeking UN Resolution on Israel-PA Talks - Israel National News

UN Security Council member New Zealand is working on a draft resolution to revive long-stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA), AFP reported on Tuesday.

France has begun consultations on a text that would outline the parameters of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, but Ambassador Jim McLay said that New Zealand's friendship with Israel and the Palestinian Arabs means it could make a contribution.

"New Zealand wants this Security Council to focus on a practical outcome -- and we have been working on a text that might serve the purpose of getting negotiations started," he said, according to AFP.

The ambassador emphasized that the timing was right to move forward, after the Israeli elections and before the United States becomes embroiled in the campaign for the presidency in 2016. McLay added that New Zealand was open to supporting the French initiative "if it has a chance of succeeding," but he made clear that action was needed soon. (Read more)

6. Report: Final Agreement Reached Between Netanyahu, Kahlon -Israel National News

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Kulanu party head Moshe Kahlon have sealed a final agreement for Kulanu to join the next Likud-led government, according to senior political sources. According to the sources, under the agreement Kahlon's party will receive the Finance, Housing and Construction, and Environmental Protection ministries.

The agreement and all its details have been agreed upon by both sides, the sources said, but Netanyahu and Kahlon are waiting until after Independence Day (which takes place Thursday) to officially sign and announce the deal. (Read more)

7. Michelle Bachmann: Obama's poor relationship with Israel will bring the return of Jesus - Jerusalem Post

Former Republican congresswoman Michele Bachmann stated that President Barack Obama's handling of the Iranian nuclear deal is a symbol of the coming of the end of times and the "imminent" return of Jesus Christ, during a recent radio interview.

Bachmann explained that if Obama and the United States turn their back on Israel, this would bring severe "curses" upon the United States, similar to those seen in the end of days. But, Bachmann is not afraid of the end of days, rather she says that "these are the most exciting days in history" because nothing is more important than the return of Jesus Christ.

"We need to be so on fire right now about the things of Christ and the things of God, that needs to occupy our time and our thoughts virtually from morning to night because we have very little time - in my opinion - left before the second return of Christ. That's good news!" the former congresswoman said. "The world is embracing degeneracy, but what that also tells us as we look at what the world is doing that they're going according to God's time clock. Pastors, preach it from the pulpit!" The "president" and the pattern of Christian persecution

In March 2011, the "president" justified his illegal bombing of Libya by saying, "To brush aside America's responsibility as a leader and -- more profoundly -- our responsibilities to our fellow human beings under such circumstances would have been a betrayal of who we are. Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different. And as President, I refused to wait for the images of slaughter and mass graves before taking action." National Security Council official Samantha Powers, told a crowd at Columbia University in late March that the president's two year campaign to promote human rights helped trigger the uprising in Libya.

In April 2011, over 100 Christians were slaughtered in Ivory Coast at the hands of Islamist Alassane Ouattara. Ouattara was backed by the White House, the UN, and the European Union as the winner of the Ivory Coast presidential election, but was disqualified. He raised a mercenary army and systematically killed Christians where supporters of his Catholic opponent lived. No comment by the US "president." Whenever Christians have been killed by Muslims, the "president" seems slow to the microphone. In Libya, however, the "president" used the mere threat of a humanitarian crisis to justify the US military aiding and abetting the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda ousting the government.

Many al Qaeda operatives in Libya when to Syria and teamed up with opposition to the Assad regime and became part of the deadly Islamic State. The IS has been killing thousands of Christians. Libya is the staging ground, or studio, if you will, where Egyptian Christians and Ethiopian Christians have been executed. The Washington Times reports the IS is using sophisticated filming techniques that experts say "The goal is to create slickly produced content that can play well not just as a propaganda tool via social media and Internet circulation, but also can display well through international media outlets." This is the systematic killing of Christians and the promotion of such from the Libya the US "president" created.

There is a pattern of this US presidency. Christians were first targeted as homegrown radicals in an April 2009 White House-directed Homeland Security document. Since, Christians have been disdained, ridiculed, lectured, and allowed to die the most brutal deaths. Yet in places involving Muslims, such as Libya, the White House declares a humanitarian crisis and commits US firepower. Even after the IS slaughtered Ethiopian Christians, the National Security Council "condemned" the act in a statement. The "president" didn't have the decency to condemn it himself. The world is at a crisis and Christian persecution is resulting. Jesus said in Matthew 24:9, "and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake." It's a shame that a US "president" is helping create the environment for this and turning a blind eye to these atrocities.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

March for Marriage

Next Sunday, April 25th

March for Marriage

Washington, D.C.

This weekend, before one of the most important trials of the century, the National Organization for Marriage is urging America to rally for marriage at a once-in-a-lifetime March on the National Mall. Pro-family groups like FRC, churches, state activists, and cultural leaders are all converging on Washington this Saturday, April 25th, to show the world that we care about protecting marriage and want to stand up and fight for it.

We invite you to join us in front of the U.S. Capitol building reflecting pool (known as Area 15). After a noon rally that features FRC's Cathy Ruse and FRC Action's Josh Duggar, we'll march to the Supreme Court in order to pray for the Court's upcoming oral arguments on state marriage laws and to show our support for marriage between a man and a woman.
Details about the March time and location are available at the March for Marriage website. Please make plans to join us in person or to participate online by participating in the virtual March for Marriage. This is a critical time for our country and for all Americans who recognize the importance of marriage for the stability of our families and the good of our communities. Share your support for the March by forwarding this email and spreading the word. (Family Research Council)

Prayers for the Court

Prayers for the Court:

Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice

Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice, was born in Trenton, New Jersey, March 11, 1936. He married Maureen McCarthy and has nine children. . . President Reagan nominated him as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and he took his seat September 26, 1986.

A brilliant scholar, Scalia has expressed his views boldly in word and in print from his career as a student to the present day. A conservative Roman Catholic, he practices his faith religiously. As a Supreme Court Justice, he can be relied upon to take a conservative stand. Liberals celebrate his jumping sides occasionally, but it only occurs in a few, mostly obscure cases.
Justice Scalia is a textualist (one who believes laws and the Constitution should not be reinterpreted by judges but applied according to the plain words that are written) and an originalist (one who believes the Constitution means today, precisely what the Founders meant it to mean when they wrote it.) He is highly critical of those who hold to the idea of a "Living Constitution" often referring to the "rule of law." He believes the Constitution can only be changed by amendment, ratified by ¾ of the states, not by judges choosing to change its meaning by reinterpreting it.
. . . Regarding marriage, observers feel confident Scalia will uphold the states' rights to determine marriage standards. He dissented from the majority in the Lawrence v. Texas (2003),which declared null and void laws forbidding consensual sodomy in all fifty states. He dissented in U.S. v. Windsor, which struck down the federal part of the Defense of Marriage Act. Scalia is a federalist, which means he believes in a federal government with powers limited by the Constitution and highly regards the rights of the individual states to govern in all matters, including marriage laws, except for those limited powers granted to the national government.
Let's pray:

- God, thank you for Justice Scalia, who has been shaped by his faith and who believes that the Constitution and Bill of Rights were intended to protect people of all faiths from an overreaching federal government. (Hebrews 11:6)

- Thank the Lord for helping this Justice to stand strong for the rule of law and the Constitution and against the liberal winds of cultural change. (1 Cor 3:10-13; 1 Tim 1:8-10)

- Guide him in hearing and analyzing the arguments on Tuesday, 28th. Help him ask precisely the right questions that will elicit answers proving our case. May Scalia influence every Justice when they confer after arguments. May the Spirit of God impact his thinking and all of his colleagues and may Scalia's strength be a support to others to stand on principle. (Eph 6:19-20; Jas 1:8)
- May Justice Scalia, the father of nine and grandfather of 28, be a champion for children. May God awaken every Justice to the true cost to children and generations unborn. (Gen 18:19; Matthew 18:6) - May every Justice bow their knee before Jesus, the Supreme Judge of the World, to whom they will give account. (Acts 17:31)

Franklin Graham Speaks Out

"The Gates of Hell Will Not Prevail Against the Church," Says Franklin Graham on ISIS Slaughter of Christians

"One thing is for sure-one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." -Franklin Graham

Rev. Franklin Graham has said that ISIS' brutal massacre of 30 Ethiopian Christians will only strengthen the faith of those living in the country and has encouraged Believers to remember Jesus' promise that the gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church, in reference to Matthew 16:18.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Graham, who is the President of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, wrote, "We learned yesterday that Ethiopian Christians were beheaded by ISIS in Libya. Once again we are reminded of the brutality that emanates from Islam. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Ethiopian families who have lost their sons, their fathers, their husbands, their brothers-we are praying for you. I was just In Ethiopia a few weeks ago and met with some of the wonderful Christians there. This will only strengthen their faith. Jesus said that the gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church."
. . ."God's Word tells us that there will be a final battle one day, but it will result in the defeat of satan and all those allied with him," the preacher said on Facebook.

Our Grandmothers' Songs

Songs Our Grandmothers Sang:

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER

"Pray continually." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

In these perilous times, when all that can be shaken is being shaken, let us return to the "faith of our fathers" and sing the hymns and songs of old.

May we each draw strength in our own time, as we "dig the wells of treasure" to draw upon the strength that carried our ancestors through their own perilous times. Amen.

Lyrics:
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father's throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter's snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer! (Read all the lyrics here.)
