The Daily Brief:

"Praying for All in Authority"

"The battle is the Lord's." (2 Chronicles 20:15)

"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy." (Psalm 126:3)

The Daily Brief

1. Boehner and Obama Join to Pass Bill Funding Obamacare and Amnesty - CNSNews.com

House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama joined forces today to push their respective party members to provide 219 votes--one more than was needed--to ensure passage of an omnibus government funding bill that permits the administration to spend money implementing Obamacare and Obama's planned unilateral actions that will effectively amnesty as many as five million illegal aliens.

The bill, according to the Congressional Budget Office, will allow the administration to spend $1,188,927,000,000 on discretionary government programs. It provides funding for amost all of the government through the end of this fiscal year--which occurs on Sept. 30, 2015--and for the Department of Homeland Security through Feb. 27, 2015.

Because it does not prohibit the president from using appropriated money to implement his plan to legalize illegal aliens, the president may move forward--drawing taxed and borrowed money from the Treasury--to carry out this plan.

The bill also allows the president to withdraw taxed and borrowed money from the Treasury to continue implementing Obamacare.(Read more)

- Lord God, today many of us are wondering how we ever arrived at this place. Only You know what lies within the hearts of men, and of "kings," but this disaster leaves us baffled and confused. We ask Your peace to reign in our hearts, even while, as citizens of this country, we seek to know the course to take now. In all of this, we praise you with a "sacrifice of praise" according to Your command, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name." (Hebrews 13:15)

2. Senate could be here next week - The Hill

The House on Friday passed a five-day measure keeping the government funded through Wednesday, buying more time for the Senate to consider a larger funding bill. The new stopgap bill was cleared by unanimous consent during a House pro forma session. The surprise move gives senators on both sides of the aisle a chance to demand concessions in exchange for scheduling a vote on the omnibus without waiting two days to fulfill procedural requirements.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said he would not agree to speed up a vote on the omnibus unless he was promised a vote on amendment addressing President Obama's executive order easing deportations. "I'm asking to be able to get a vote," he said. "A number of us have some amendments that we think would improve the bill and I'm open to various different ideas."

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he wanted to force every member of the Senate to take an up-or-down vote on Obama's executive action on immigration. (Read more)

- Father God, we thank You that, according to our way of governing, "it's not over until it's over," and that the Senate now has the opportunity to fix the problems with this CR. We ask for Your timing to rule in all remaining matters of this 113th Session of the U.S. Senate, and that all will be done only according to Your will. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

3. Obama Justice Department Was Involved In IRS Targeting, Lerner Emails Reveal - Forbes

The documents prove that Lois Lerner met with DOJ's Election Crimes Division a month before the 2010 elections. Ms. Lerner was talking to DOJ officials about prosecuting tax-exempt entities (yes, criminally!) two years before the IRS conceded there was inappropriate targeting.

- All-knowing God, we thank You for revealing what many of us suspected, and for bringing it to Light! We ask that Your Light will continue to uncover the works of darkness and bring them to accountability! We thank You that "back-door deals" are being exposed, and that You also expose the "thoughts and intents" of the hearts of those involved. We ask for a "turn-around", in treating both political parties with fairness, and returning to You as a nation. Cleanse our hearts, Lord, and renew a right spirit within us, we pray. Amen!

-"Everything that is hidden will be shown, and everything that is secret will be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in an inner room will be shouted from the housetops." (Luke 12:2,3)

4. How current events might play into America's shift in favor of gun rights - Yahoo

For the first time, a Pew survey found more support for gun ownership than gun control among Americans. Current events like the Michael Brown case may be accelerating the trend, a gun control advocate says.

- Abba, we thank You that You moved on our Founding Fathers to include the "right to bear arms" into our Constitution when we became a nation. With lawlessness running rampant in our streets, schools, and society in general, it is understandable to wish to protect ourselves and our property from that violence. We know that You have said in Your Word (Mark 7:20-23) that both good and evil come out of man's heart, depending on their relationship to You. Therefore, we do ask You to confront those who do evil and draw them by Your Spirit unto Yourself. Meanwhile, thank You that we can use arms to protect ourselves with Your wisdom. Amen.

-"It is what comes out of a person, He went on, 'that makes him unclean. For from within, out of a person's heart, come forth wicked thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, foolishness...all these wicked things come from within, and they make a person unclean.'" (Mark 7:20-23)

5. Storm Fueled By 'Pineapple Express' Brings Hurricane-Force Winds to California, Oregon, Washington; Flood Threat Continues - Weather.com

A powerful storm fueled by a stream of tropical moisture called the "Pineapple Express" is battering not only drought-stricken California but the entire West Coast with damaging winds and enough rain to cause flooding and landslides. On top of that, the Sierra Nevada is in line for a bona fide blizzard likely to make travel there all but impossible. The National Weather Service in Monterey, California, said Monday that this storm is "expected to be one of the strongest storms in terms of wind and rain intensity" since storms in October 2009 and January 2008.On Thursday afternoon in Oregon, the Portland International Airport recorded a 62-mph wind gust, its highest wind gust in nearly 19 years. The storm is also expected to dump feet of snow in the mountains and ski resort operators say they expect to have over three feet of new snow by the weekend.

- Father, it seems every time our nation inserts itself into Israeli affairs, and works against her, the "flood gates" open in torrents of disaster somewhere in our land. We ask for Your mercy upon these ones who are experiencing these horrible weather-related disasters! We ask for Your intervention to protect and help those who are being inundated by these rains, floods and mudslides. May they look to You as their Help, and their Deliverer! In Your Name we pray, Amen.

-"There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven." (Luke 21:11)

6. U.S. 'troubled' that Crimean leader in India with Putin - Yahoo

NEW DELHI - The leader of Crimea, the former Ukrainian territory annexed by Russia, visited India on Thursday as a member of President Vladimir Putin's annual summit delegation, and the United States said it found the reports troubling. India does not back Western sanctions against Russia, but the unofficial trip by Sergey Aksyonov could spoil the mood before Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosts U.S. President, Barack Obama, for India's "Republic Day" festivities in January.

- Lord, may our Leaders come to realize that we cannot control other nation's internal affairs, to make them align with our goals and opinions. We do ask for clarity to come to this situation, so that we would have Your wisdom to understand the significance of this move, and how we should appropriately respond to it. We do ask for wisdom and discernment on our State Department and all our government entities to know and understand the ramifications of any and all moves by these other governments. Lead us nationally, as well as individually, we pray. Amen.

-"With His power He rules forever; His eyes keep watch on the nations. Let no rebel arise to challenge Him. Selah!" (Psalm 66:7)

2. Egyptian jihadis pledge allegiance to Isis - The Guardian UK

Egypt's most active jihadi group, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, has disclosed its allegiance to Islamic State, becoming one of the largest militant bodies to pledge loyalty to Isis outside its strongholds in Iraq and Syria.

In a nine-minute audio recording released early on Monday, a spokesman for ABM said: "In accordance with the teachings of the Prophet, we announce our allegiance to the Caliphate, and call on Muslims everywhere to do the same." The message attempted to justify its pledge by alluding to violations by the Egyptian state, which has crackec down on most forms of opposition over the last year, in particular in the region where ABM is based.

The group has fought an insurgency against the Egyptian military and police in the remote towns of the northern Sinai peninsula since at least 2011, increasing its attacks after the army removed the moderate Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. (Read more)

3. Bachmann to Obama at White House Christmas Party: Bomb Iran - Washington Free Beacon

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R., Minn.) knew the White House Christmas party this week would be her last chance as a member of Congress to speak directly to President Obama. She didn't waste the opportunity.

"I turned to the president and I said, something to the effect of, 'Mr. President, you need to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities, because if you don't, Iran will have a nuclear weapon on your watch and the course of world history will change,'" she told the Washington Free Beacon.

"And he got his condescending smile on his face and laughed at me and said, 'Well Michele, it's just not that easy.' And I said to him, 'No, Mr. President, you're the president, it will happen on your watch, and you'll have to answer to the world for this.' And that was it and then I left. Merry Christmas," she said with a laugh. (Read more)

4. Missile defense systems boost US military aid to Israel - Globes.co.il

Congress's 2015 spending bill includes $3.7 billion in US military aid to Israel.

Senior US legislators from both parties have submitted a $1.1 trillion spending bill that includes $3.7 billion in aid to Israel in the 2015 fiscal year, which began October 1 2014. The entire amount of this aid will come from the Pentagon's budget. It includes $3.1 billion in regular annual military aid, in accordance with the multi-year agreement between Jerusalem and Washington, and an extra $619 million for Israel's missile defense system program, including Iron Dome. This will be one of the largest-ever US military aid packages granted to Israel. (Read more)

5. Victory for Netanyahu: Likud primaries moved up - Israel Hayom

A big victory for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: In a secret vote on Wednesday, the Likud Executive Committee approved Netanyahu's proposal to move the Likud primaries up to Dec. 31 and also gave the prime minister the right to place two candidates of his choice on the Likud list. The vote demonstrated that Netanyahu still holds unequivocal control of his party, as 65 percent of Likud caucus members supported his initiatives.

A Netanyahu associate said Wednesday night, "This is proof that those who cultivated wild illusions that Likud members do not want Netanyahu were wrong."

In the wake of Wednesday's vote, there is growing belief that former Likud minister Gideon Sa'ar will not challenge Netanyahu for the party's leadership position in the primaries. (Read more)

6. Shots near Israeli embassy in Athens: police - Times of Israel

ATHENS, Greece - Police in Greece early on Friday were investigating a strafing attack on the Israeli embassy in Athens in which nobody was injured, a police source said.

The shots were apparently fired from a motorcycle with two persons passing in front of the embassy, which lies on the corner of a busy highway, the police said. (Read more)

7. Netanyahu accuses media of conspiring with his opponents - Jerusalem Online

Prime Minister Netanyahu held a press conference today (Thu) in light of his successful attempt to hold Likud primary elections earlier than planned.

Netanyahu thanked the Likud members who supported his proposal to hold the elections early, saying "Likud members have been supportive of me, protesting the media campaign against me. I hope for a similar result in the primary and national elections". (Read more)

Cromnibus Passes

Cromnibus Passes

After a day of drama, the House of Representatives passed the so-called "cromnibus" spending bill last night by a margin of 219 to 206, thus narrowly avoiding a government shutdown. Sixty-seven Republicans voted against it, while 57 Democrats voted for it.

Few conservatives are happy with this bill. Rep. Jim Moran, a left-wing Virginia Democrat, rallied support for the bill, saying, "We got virtually everything that the Democrats tried to get." That doesn't exactly leave me with warm and fuzzy feelings.

But then Moran conceded, "What's going to happen next year is that we're going to lose all of the money that was put into Democratic priorities." Moran's point was that Democrats should take what they could get while they still could. Yesterday's hodgepodge represented the dying breath of a divided Congress -- the last time that Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid could make demands.

If you're among the many conservatives upset with John Boehner, here's an early Christmas gift: Nancy Pelosi was furious that this bill passed. She went to the House floor and blasted the bill as "blackmail," saying she was "heartbroken" by it.

But it wasn't Speaker Boehner or Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell who broke Nancy Pelosi's heart. No, Pelosi was "enormously disappointed" in Barack Obama.

The media love to obsess over splits in the Republican Party. But there are deep divisions among Democrats and there is every reason to believe they will only get worse over the next two years. (Gary Bauer)

Iranian General: "Obama's Bluffing"

Iranian General: "Obama's Bluffing"

The world becomes a very dangerous place when America's enemies conclude we are no longer a serious nation. The atrocities of 9/11 happened after Osama bin Laden watched the Clinton Administration and determined that U.S. troops were "paper tigers" who "after a few blows, ran away in defeat."

Our enemies have watched Obama draw redlines and then back away from them. Putin decided to test the limits of Obama's promised "flexibility" by seizing Crimea. Now he's sending tanks into Ukraine and bombers into the Caribbean.

And if the latest comments of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander are any indication, things could get much worse in the year ahead. During a recent interview, Hossein Salami said, "The enemy can no longer even think about a military option. When senior U.S. officials use the term 'military option,' it is only for psychology purposes. It is an outdated bluff."

If the Iranians have concluded that Obama is bluffing, that there is no credible threat of military force from the United States, then the nuclear negotiations are a complete waste of time. All they have produced so far is an agreement to talk for another seven months -- giving the mullahs seven more months to advance their nuclear ambitions. (Gary Bauer)

The Daily Jot

Congress revokes your Constitutional right to privacy

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives has passed legislation that allows government spying on you, and is, as Congressman Justin Amash (R-Mi) says, "...one of the most egregious sections of law I've encountered during my time as a representative." Passing the House on a voice vote (over the objections of Amash), Section 309 of the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2015 provides "the first statutory authority for the acquisition, retention, and dissemination of US persons' private communications obtained without legal process such as a court order or a subpoena." This means that every electronic conversation you have will be recorded by the government.

The bill, HR 4681, says, "The procedures required by paragraph (1) shall apply to any intelligence collection activity not otherwise authorized by court order..., subpoena, or similar legal process that is reasonably anticipated to result in the acquisition of a covered communication to or from a United States person and shall permit the acquisition, retention, and dissemination of covered communications subject to the limitation in subparagraph (B)." A covered communication is defined as "any nonpublic telephone or electronic communication acquired without the consent of a person who is a party to the communication, including communications in electronic storage."

The Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution states: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." What probable cause does the government have to acquire all of our electronic communications? Our Bill of Rights was established to protect American citizens from an overreaching government. These tyrants in Congress and at the White House have usurped the Constitution and run roughshod over our rights.

I know many Christians believe that we just have to "Render unto Caesar." Wake up! There is no Caesar in a Constitutional Republic. Our founders gave us a say in our government. Lawless people will riot over lies, why won't law abiding people exercise their right to peaceably assemble? Voting out politicians and electing others, doesn't guarantee the job is done. Our forefathers came to this country to worship freely. They established freedom. They would be the first to rise up and claim Galatians 5:1 over the land, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." It is wiser to stand against bondage before you are forced into it.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

California Would Need Five More Super Storms to Quell Drought

A slow-moving storm causing flooding and power outages in northern California would need to be replicated at least five more times for meteorologists to declare an end to the state's historic drought.

The wind and rain, dubbed #hellastorm on Twitter, produced widespread flash flooding, closed schools and canceled flights in the San Francisco Bay Area and brought blizzard conditions to mountain passes near Lake Tahoe on Thursday before heading for Southern California.

Three years of below-normal rain and snowfall have left reservoirs at less than a third of capacity. Water for the nation's most productive agricultural region was rationed. At least five similar storms would have to follow to replenish the deficits, said Alan Haynes, service coordination hydrologist at the California Nevada River Forecast Center in Sacramento.

A mudslide has also been reported overnight in Camarillo in Ventura County (north of L.A.), with no one injured. (Bloomberg) Read more.
