The Daily Brief - Tuesday, September 29, 2009

"Blessed are those servants whom the Master, when He comes, will find watching." (Luke 12:37)

The Daily Brief

1. Accomplices in NYC terror plot known - AP

Court papers allege that at least three people helped Najibullah Zazi buy beauty products containing peroxide and acetone in suburban Denver. The chemicals can be used to make homemade bombs. As authorities have continued to search for additional suspects, they've issued a flurry of terrorism warnings for sports complexes, hotels and transit systems based on their investigation.

· Heavenly Father, we thank you that these terrorist plots have been revealed and stopped. We pray for even greater discernment upon our people to recognize these evil plotters, and for them to be quickly captured.

· Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, But establish the just; For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds. ( Psalms 7:9)

2. Officials to track shot's side effects - Washington Post

The government is starting an unprecedented system to track possible side effects as mass flu vaccinations begin next month. The idea is to detect any rare but real problems quickly and explain the inevitable coincidences that are sure to cause some false alarms.

· Heavenly Father, we pray as these vaccines are being developed, the scientists will quickly detect any potential danger that might put people in jeopardy. Let this flu season be short and the ill effects minimal.

· No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11) For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. (Psalms 91:10, 11)

3. Senate Financial Services Committee Abortion Vote Today - Family Research Council

Members of the U.S. Senate Financial Services Committee will be voting TODAY, September 29, on amendments to keep abortion coverage out of Sen. Max Baucus's (D-Mont.) health care bill. Sen. Baucus's health care bill explicitly includes abortion and would subsidize health plans that cover all elective abortions. Such subsidies for abortion goes well beyond the status quo of preventing federal funds either from paying for abortion or subsidizing plans that covers abortion as is prevented under current laws governing Medicaid, the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan, and the State Children's Health Insurance Plan.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has introduced several amendments that would prevent government funding for abortion and would protect current conscience laws for health workers.

· Please pray that these senators, on the Financial Services Committee, will support Sen. Hatch's amendments to keep government funded abortions out of the Baucus bill: Senators Jeff Bingaman, Thomas Carper, Kent Conrad, Blanche Lincoln, Bill Nelson, Olympia Snowe.

· "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." (Proverbs 14:34)

4. Video Shows Teens Beating Chicago Student to Death - Breitbart

Cell phone footage showing a group of teens viciously kicking and striking a 16-year-old honors student with splintered railroad ties has ramped up pressure on Chicago officials to address chronic violence that has led to dozens of deaths of city teens each year.

· Lord, we pray for these people who are doing violence in our land to be locked up in a secure place where they will come to salvation. We pray against violence on the schools. We release peace in Jesus Name.

· They said, 'Repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers forever and ever. (Jeremiah 25:5)

5. U.S. Commander in Afghanistan Talked with Obama Only Once - Breitbart

This revelation comes amid the explosive publication of a classified report written by the general that said the war in Afghanistan "will likely result in failure" if more troops are not added next year. Yet, the debate over health care reform continues to dominate Washington's political discussions.

· Lord, with all the issues going on in our nation, we pray that You will give Obama and his Administration the right priorities that are most important, such as the defense of our nation.

· "Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the Lord is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed." (1 Samuel 2:3)

6. Defense Bill, Lauded by White House, Contains Billions in Earmarks - Washington Post

President Obama has repeatedly promised to fight "the special interests, contractors and entrenched lobbyists" that he says have distorted military priorities and bloated appropriations in the past. In August, he told a convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars that "if Congress sends me a defense bill loaded with a bunch of pork, I will veto it."

· Lord, we pray for all officials to either not incorporate earmarks into our bills or that they be removed. We pray for integrity and Your justice to be in our officials and our land.

· Then it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us. (Deuteronomy 6:25)

7. Secret Service Probing Facebook Poll on Obama - USA Today

The poll asked respondents "Should Obama be killed?" The choices: No, Maybe, Yes, and Yes if he cuts my health care. The question was not created by Facebook, but by an independent person using an add-on application that has been suspended from the site. Because the application was disabled, the responses to the nonscientific polls are not available.

· Lord, we pray that people who are upset with what is currently going on in our nation, will not incite nor do violence to our officials. Let every protest be orderly and effective.

· And he spoke to the congregation, saying, "Depart now from the tents of these wicked men! Touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins." (Numbers 16:26)

Hawaii Family Forum Receives Focus Action's Family Champion Award

Focus on the Family Action recognized three "Family Champions" at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., last weekend.

One of those recipients, Dennis Arakaki, executive director of the Hawaii Family Forum (HFF), was honored for his work in defeating civil-union legislation. He overcame unusual odds against a liberal-controlled Legislature.

Through steady e-mail alerts and strategic rallies, the organization successfully mobilized grassroots opposition, even countering an intensive campaign by mainland gay-activist groups. Due to the valiant efforts of HFF, marriage in Hawaii is safe from attempts to redefine it for now. (CitizenLink)

Thoughts on Prayer

"When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible the devil laughs. When he stops praying the devil shouts for joy." -- Corrie Ten Boom
