The Daily Brief
1. 57% Would Like to Replace Entire Congress - Rasmussen Reports
If they could vote to keep or replace the entire Congress, just 25% of voters nationwide would keep the current batch of legislators.
• Although we can certainly understand the frustration of so many voters who have this opinion, we do stand in the gap for them and ask our Lord to forgive them, for they know not what they do. CONGRESS STILL INCLUDES A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF MEMBERS, IN BOTH THE HOUSE AND IN THE SENATE, WHO ARE WORKING TIRELESSLY TO WITHSTAND THE ONSLAUGHT AT THE GATE, AND TO DEFEAT WICKED BILLS THAT DEFY THE LAW OF GOD. They need our prayers, and they need our support. Amen.
• "He will be a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate." (Isaiah 28:6)
2. FDIC's Bank Insurance Fund Down 20 Percent in Second Quarter - AP
The agency that guarantees bank deposits said Thursday, there are no immediate plans to borrow money from the government to bolster its insurance fund, which has shrunk under the weight of collapsing banks. The fund fell 20 percent to $10.4 billion in the second quarter as U.S. banks overall lost $3.7 billion, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said. That's the fund's lowest point since 1992 at the height of the savings-and-loan crisis. Some analysts have warned that the fund could fall below zero by year's end.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg is reporting that a federal court has ordered the FDIC for the first time identify the companies in its emergency lending programs after losing a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
• Lord, we pray for those who are making decisions in our nation concerning the banks, economy, and our currency to be restrained from incorporating anything that would harm our nation further. Give us all temperance and wisdom.
• Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to godliness. (2 Peter 1: 6)
3. Rep. Frank Eyes Fed Audit, Emergency Lending Curbs - Yahoo Finance
Rep. Barney Frank, the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, said he plans legislation to restrict the Federal Reserve's emergency lending powers and subject the central bank to a "complete audit."
• Lord, we pray for harmful decisions to be halted. Replace those who do not have a vision for this nation with those who are filled with wisdom and knowledge, and understand the times.
• Then the Lord answered me and said: "Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. (Habakkuk 2:2)
4. Real US Unemployment Rate at 16 Pct: Fed Official - AFP
The real US unemployment rate is 16 percent if persons who have dropped out of the labor pool and those working less than they would like are counted, a Federal Reserve official said Wednesday.
• Heavenly Father, we pray for those who have been affected by these harmful bills, over-spending, and unwise decisions. Open the door of creativity and opportunity to get them employed.
• The Lord raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory. (1 Samuel 2:8)
5. 2 Firefighters Killed Amid Massive Calif. Wildfire; L.A. Broadcast Towers Threatened - Fox News
Two Los Angeles County firefighters were killed when their vehicle rolled down a mountain side amid the intense flames of a wildfire that threatened 12,000 homes. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urged those in the fire's path to get out as the blazes rained ash on cars as far away as downtown Los Angeles, spreading in all directions in dry conditions.
• Lord, we pray for the families of these brave firefighters who died doing their work. We pray for the fires in our nation to be stopped and the weather conditions to change so that there will be no more great fires.
• The Lord covers the heavens with clouds, He prepares rain for the earth, . . . He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly .(Psalms 147:8, 15)
6. New Hampshire Court Orders Christian Homeschooled Girl to Attend Public School - OneNewsNow
A Christian homeschool girl in New Hampshire has been ordered into government-run public school for having "sincerely held" religious beliefs.
• Heavenly Father, we pray that this decision will be quickly reversed. We pray for the favor in the courts toward parents teaching their children and for public support to rise up quickly toward homeschooling parents!
• "Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him." (2 Chronicles 32:7)
7. UAE Seizes North Korean Weapons Shipment to Iran - Bloomberg
The United Arab Emirates has seized a ship carrying North Korean-manufactured munitions, detonators, explosives and rocket-propelled grenades bound for Iran in violation of United Nations sanctions, diplomats said.
• Heavenly Father, we pray that the plans of rogue nations like Iran, Russia, Afghanistan, and others in the world will be stopped completely. Overtake them. Thwart our enemies! Protect Israel!
• Consider my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred. Keep my soul, and deliver me; Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. (Psalms 25:19, 20)

Dangerous White House Terror Strategy Encourages Islam at Expense of Israel
On July 15, 2008, the man who now occupies the Oval Office . . . said he would bring the troops home from Iraq and focus on winning the war in Afghanistan. But eight months into the new Administration's prosecution of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it appears that the strategy is failing. August was the deadliest month for American soldiers since the Afghanistan war began eight years ago. Furthermore, the Taliban and al Qaeda terrorists may well be emboldened by news of troop withdrawal from Iraq and that the White House no longer is saying there is a war on terror.
On August 6, John Brennan, who heads the White House office of Homeland Security, told the Center for Strategic and International Studies that America is no longer fighting a "war on terrorism"; or "jihadists" or a "global war". Instead, he said the US is solely engaged in a war against al Qaeda. Brennan said that shifting the definition no longer implies that America is fighting a war against Islam, or against some religious struggle for a moral cause. The redefinition goes hand in hand with the White House's appeasement language toward Islam, outlined in Obama's landmark Cairo speech in June that quoted from the Quran and lied about Islam's contributions to society.
Collectively, the Obama appeasement strategy has been inextricably linked with unrelenting pressure on Israel to give in to Palestinian demands, which are also the demands of al Qaeda, the Taliban, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Islamic world--that Israel cease its settlements, allow establishment of a so-called Palestinian state that cuts Israel in two pieces with Jerusalem as its capital. And despite White House overtures to the Islamic world, the terrorists, as coordinated from Iran with the help of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt and other state actors, have escalated death and destruction against the US in Afghanistan and Iraq.
This White House seems to think it understands the Muslim world because of Obama's Islamic upbringing. But however much hate there is between the Shiites and the Sunnis, together they hate Israel more. And what American leaders believe is war in Afghanistan and Iraq, Islamic leaders see as only pressure points bearing down on a greater cause--the annihilation of Israel and its ally the United States. By ignoring this basic truth of Islam, The White House is bringing both physical and spiritual destruction upon its citizens. Jesus said in Matthew 6;24, "No man can serve two masters." Neither can this nation serve God by pressuring Israel and bowing to satan by appeasing Islam.

"Loving Muslims Through Prayer"
Christian vs Islam: Divisions in Culture and Religion
While the religious differences between Christians and Muslims are significant, sometimes cultural differences can be even greater sources of misunderstanding and mistrust. Different perspectives can also be opportunities to learn from each other. Cultural differences may inhibit or enhance our ability to proclaim Christ, as well as a Muslim's ability to receive our message.
In recent years many Muslims have cited the book "The Gospel of Barnabas" (available on the web) in order to show that Jesus was a good Muslim. Jesus is portrayed in the book as a prophet who prays, speaks and acts exactly like traditional Muslims.
An interesting distortion is that Satan is portrayed as the one to claim Jesus as God. The author of the "Gospel of Barnabas" has rewritten the Biblical Gospel to make it agree with the Qur'an. The aim of the book is to try to convince people that Jesus was a Muslim and predict the coming of Muhammad. It is a direct distortion of the Bible.
Prayer Starters:
- Pray for those witnessing to Muslims to understand the cultural differences as well as the religious differences.
- The Gospel is cross-cultural - pray that this truth be believed and acted upon by Christian workers.
- May God give Muslims insights into the errors of the Gospel of Barnabas.
- Meditate on these texts in prayer: Matthew 5:43- 48, Hebrews 1:5-8.
