The Daily Brief Thursday, October 2, 2008

"Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the days." (Matthew 28:20)

The Daily Brief

1. Will Moderator Misgivings = Fair?- AP

The revelation that moderator Gwen Ifill is penning a book about Barack Obama could work to Sarah Palin's benefit in her debate with Joe Biden, political observers said Thursday.Palin would seemingly be at a disadvantage against Obama's running mate on Thursday night as a result of Ifill's desire to sell her upcoming book. But some say voters will now be looking closely not only at the candidates' responses to Ifill's questions, but also at the questions themselves."The fact that [Ifill] is openly writing a book and that she's openly sympathetic actually may be a slight advantage to Palin, because everybody's going to tune in tonight and unlike some of these interviews where people pretended to be neutral, everybody's going to understand what you have is a reporter who's deeply biased towards Obama, but who's trying to be fair," said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

We ask all of our CHPP Prayer Partners to bathe in prayer tonight's historic debate between Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Senator Joesph Biden (D- DE). The debate will begin at 9:00 p.m.EDT; and the venue is in the City of St. Louis, Missouri.

· Pray for TRUTH to be uncovered regarding the character, wisdom, knowledge and skill of both candidates. Ask that all questions be fair, and that the voters will be able to discern between appearances and reality. Pray!

· "The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)

3. Bailout Passes Senate, House Foes Soften - AP

After one spectacular failure, the $700 billion financial industry bailout found a second life Wednesday, winning lopsided passage in the Senate and gaining ground in the House, where Republicans opposition softened.

· "He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live." (Proverbs 15:27)

4. China Report Urges Missile Shield - Washington Times

The United States needs new weapon systems, including missile defenses and other advanced military capabilities, to deter and counter China's steady buildup of nuclear and conventional arms, according to a draft internal report by a State Department advisory board.

6. Report: Illegal Immigration Falls as Economy Declines - AP

Illegal immigration, which has sparked political and social turmoil in communities across the nation, is on the wane, according to an independent report released Thursday.

· Lord, we pray once again for You to continue to stem the flow of illegals into America. May our immigration policy be fair, balanced, and still keep our borders safe from those who would destroy our nation.

· "He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with finest wheat." (Psalm 147:14)

2. Olmert tries to take Israel with him - JNW News

Olmert declares that Israel has no choice but to surrender the cradle of Jewish civilization to its enemies. Apart from Samaria and Judea - land the anti-Israel world calls the West Bank - Israel would also have to give away the Golan Heights, the high ground that has successfully kept Israel's border with Syria quiet for more than 40 years. Olmert insisted that at "the end of the day, we will have to withdraw from the most decisive areas of the territories. In exchange for the same territories left in our hands, we will have to give compensation in the form of territories within the State of Israel.

3. Abbas says hopes Olmert's statements 'deposit' for next government - Ynet News

FBI HUNTS AMERICANS TRAINED FOR TERROR

Feds launch dragnet to stop 'October surprise' attack

As Pakistani investigators hunt the terrorists behind the massive Marriott Hotel bombing in Islamabad, FBI agents in the U.S. have begun aggressively hunting for Americans who have recently returned from trips to Pakistan where they may have trained at al-Qaeda camps. Reports say that the bureau is in a race against time to identify Pakistan-trained sleeper cells and disrupt a possible pre-election "October surprise."

Officials say interrogations have revealed that possibly hundreds of American Muslims, many of them of Pakistani descent, have traveled to Pakistan in recent years to train at al-Qaeda and Taliban madrassas and terror camps and have returned to the U.S. to carry out suicide attacks. (Reported by:
Intercessors for America)

· Thank our God, the MOST HIGH GOD, that He promises to deliver our enemies into our hand as we fast, pray, repent, stand in the gap, and intercede for our nation. CRY OUT FOR MERCY . . . IT IS TIME!

· " . . .blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." (Genesis 14:20)

HUMILITY . . . OR HUMILIATION?

[A note received from a friend today]

Sara: For what it's worth, my sense is that we have one week left to choose between humility and humiliation. Yom Kippur is next week. On that day our president must follow the example of David, Hezekiah, Josiah, Ezra, G. Washington, and A. Lincoln in leading the people publicly in prayer, repentance, and humility. It's his last chance to do so. If he doesn't, then we forfeit the opportunity and must endure the humiliation that will bring about the humble, repentant hearts God must have to bring our nation to the fullness of His purposes.
