1. Pentagon Clarifies Comments on Repealing 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' - Fox News

The Pentagon, seeking to clarify comments made earlier this week that it has no plans to reverse its ban on gays serving openly in the military, reaffirmed Friday that President Obama remains committed to repealing "Don't Ask Don't Tell." Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell, who said Tuesday the military has no plans to repeal the 16- year-old policy, said Defense Secretary Robert Gates believed his comments were being "mischaracterized" by the press and asked him to issue a statement of clarification. "President Obama has been clear in his direction to Secretary Gates and Chairman Mullen (Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) that he is committed to repeal the 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy," Morrell said in a statement released to a few members of the Pentagon press Thursday night and to the rest of the media Friday.

- As important decisions are made about the US military, we pray for there to be an understanding of the will of the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who are called on to defend this nation. May there be an upholding of the traditions that protect Your people from transgressions.

2. Black mayor of Mississippi town brings 'atomic bomb of change' - CNN

James Young still remembers the Ku Klux Klan tormenting his neighborhood. He can still see his father holding a gun on the living room couch ready to shoot anyone who threatened his family. This week, the 53-year-old Young was elected the mayor of Philadelphia, a town of about 8,000 in the east-central part of the state. Despite a 55 percent white majority, Young defeated Rayburn Waddell, a white, three-term incumbent, by the slim margin of 46 votes. Young described the victory as "an atomic bomb of change." Another resident rejoiced, saying Young's win symbolized the scab finally falling off this town's wound. "I couldn't even have wrote that in a fairy tale," Young said. "Who would have thought a little country boy like me would be mayor of Philadelphia, Mississippi?" Philadelphia was the site of one of the most notorious killings of the civil rights era. On June 21, 1964, three civil rights workers -- James Chaney, a 21-year-old black man from Mississippi; Andrew Goodman, 20, and Michael Schwerner, 24, both activists from New York -- were shot to death at the edge of town. The killings inspired the 1988 movie "Mississippi Burning."

- Glory to You for this breakthrough. Lord, we praise You for the reconciliation that is spreading throughout this nation and for the walls that are falling between the races. We pray that the families of the victims of racial violence will be given peace with these advances.

- "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." (Acts 26:18)

3. Controversial Obama Faith Advisor Seeks to Dismantle "Heteronormative" Fatherhood "heteronormative" - LifeSiteNews.com

A member of Obama's Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships advisory board has stated that one of the main challenges in promoting "responsible fatherhood" in America will be to dismantle a perception that fatherhood is "heteronormative" - i.e., that heterosexuality is the norm. In addition to his role on Obama's faith advisory board, Knox is the director of the religion and faith program at the Human Rights Campaign, a homosexual activist group. Knox claimed that 25% of gay male couples in America "are raising children - their own and other people's." Last week, several leading American Catholics, including House Republican Leader John Boehner, Catholic League President Bill Donohue, American Life League's Judie Brown, and members of the Family Research Council issued a letter to Obama urging Knox's ouster from the advisory group. In addition to his numerous positions that run directly contrary to traditional moral values, Knox has on several occasions severely criticized the Pope and the Catholic Church. Knox has said he stands by previous comments calling Pope Benedict XVI "morally reprehensible" for not supporting the use of condoms. An open homosexual, Knox called a Cheyenne, WY bishop "immoral and insulting to Jesus" for instructing that an activist lesbian couple not receive Communion. He also labeled the Catholic fraternal group, the Knights of Columbus, "foot soldiers of a discredited army of oppression" for supporting Proposition 8, California's true marriage amendment.

- In this time of calling evil good, we pray that Your design will be evident and that all false proclamations will be knocked down. May the men who are protecting their wives and children be lifted up in prayer and may they feel Your blessing on their lives.

- "We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete." (2 Corinthians 10:5-6)

4. Computer Virus Strikes FBI, U.S. Marshals Service - AP

Law enforcement computers were struck by a mystery computer virus Thursday, forcing the FBI and the U.S. Marshals to shut down part of their networks as a precaution. The U.S. Marshals confirmed it disconnected from the Justice Department's computers as a protective measure after being hit by the virus; an FBI official said only that that agency was experiencing similar issues and was working on the problem. "We too are evaluating a network issue on our external, unclassified network that's affecting several government agencies," said FBI spokesman Mike Kortan. He did not elaborate or identify the other agencies.

- Thank You that these attacks were recognized and we pray for the mental focus and stamina of those who are on guard against all future attacks.

- "As for you, O king, while on your bed your thoughts turned to what would take place in the future; and He who reveals mysteries has made known to you what will take place." (Daniel 2:29)

5. Meeting of America's Richest About 'Need,' Attendee Says - ABC News

'Under a cloak of secrecy, some of the world's wealthiest people gathered in an unprecedented meeting early this month in New York City "to see how they can join together to do more," according to one attendee. Invited by the world's two richest men Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, along with David Rockefeller, a Who's Who of American wealth and influence gathered around a long table in a window-lined private room overlooking the East River on May 5. Gates and Buffett were joined by billionaire moguls Oprah Winfrey, Ted Turner and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg along with heavyweight philanthropists George Soros and others. Together the attendees have donated more than $70 billion to charity since 1996, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. A clandestine meeting of the country's rich and powerful, left off their public calendars and hidden from the press, is enough to spark the imaginations of conspiracy theorists everywhere, but attendees told ABC News.com the meeting was "100 percent about philanthropy" and it was not meant to be a secret. "It was meant to be a private exchange but it wasn't a secret really, just a private meeting," Stonesifer said.

- Lord, we know that You bring to light any harmful plans made in secret and we pray that the wealth of these men and women will be used for Your glory and not for the advancement of any evil agendas.

- "Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation." (Psalm 146:3)

6. Gay Curriculum Proposal Riles Elementary School Parents - Fox News

A group of parents in a California school district say they are being bullied by school administrators into accepting a new curriculum that addresses bullying, respect and acceptance -- and that includes compulsory lessons about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community that will be taught to children as young as 5 years old. The parents from the Unified School District in Alameda, a suburb of San Francisco and Oakland, say these issues are best learned at home and most definitely are not age-appropriate for elementary school children. The parents are also angry that they will not be allowed to keep their children out of the classes. "I believe these children are far too young to be learning about what these issues mean," said Alaina Stewart, who has three children who attend elementary school in Alameda. "These are adult issues and they are being thrust upon the children." But the school board says otherwise, and its attorneys say that if the curriculum is adopted, the parents will have no legal right to remove their children from class when the lessons are being taught.

- We praise You for the parents who are fighting to protect their children from indoctrination. May they be allowed to train their children in righteousness and may their teaching at home not be undercut by the schools.

- "Surely, thus says the LORD, "Even the captives of the mighty man will be taken away, And the prey of the tyrant will be rescued; For I will contend with the one who contends with you, And I will save your sons." (Isaiah 49:25)

7. Homegrown Terror Suspects Turned Toward Radicalism in U.S. Prisons - Fox News

The four men charged with plotting to blow up two New York synagogues and shoot down military planes converted to Islam while behind bars, a place terror experts say is a cauldron for Islamic radicalism. James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen were said by friends and family to have become Muslims while in prison, where they began on a path toward terrorist violence that law enforcement officials say is part of a troubling trend in America.

- This is an example of the fears that plague many in this time of moving terrorists into prisons in this nation. May those who are exploiting prisons and jails be brought to light and may the work of prison ministries for You be magnified.

- "Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us." (Isaiah 8:10)

8. U.S. Courts Should 'Download' International Law into Domestic Law, Obama Nominee Says - CNSNews.com

Harold Koh, nominated by President Barack Obama to be the State Department's top legal adviser, once argued that U.S. federal court judges - including the Supreme Court - are the "critical link" between international and domestic law and play a critical role in bringing international norms into force as domestic law. - Lord, help this administration be alert to the danger of relinquishing sovereignty to other nations. We pray for godly men and women to be appointed and for them to be attuned to Your will.

- "The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples." (Psalm 33:10)

1. IDF soldiers foil terrorist attack near Gaza Strip border - Jerusalem Post

Two terrorists were killed in a fire-exchange with IDF soldiers on Friday morning.

2. Netanyahu says all of Jerusalem to remain Israeli - USA Today

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted Thursday that all of Jerusalem will always remain under Israeli sovereignty, despite Palestinian demands for control over part of the city.

3. IAF completes nationwide drill - Ynet News

The Air Force (IAF) completed a three-day drill Thursday that included various scenarios and staged fronts the force may have to handle. Pilots also practiced a number of combat maneuvers.

4. PA officials 'surprised' by US Middle East plan - Jerusalem Post

Palestinian Authority officials said on Wednesday that they had been "surprised" to hear about US President Barack Obama's new peace plan from the Israeli media, noting that Washington had not informed the PA leadership about the initiative.

5. Israelis Celebrate "Jerusalem Day" Today - Emet News

Today, Friday, May 22, 2009/28 Iyar 5769, is Jerusalem Day. It's the celebration of the 1967 reunification of the city of Jerusalem. In addition, it also commemorates Israel's regaining its land in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

6. Pentagon chief warns nuclear Iran would be 'calamitous' - ICEJ News

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Adm. Mike Mullen said Thursday that the consequences of Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon would be "calamitous" and that major powers must join hands and act to prevent it, Reuters reported.

7. Israeli Air Force Holds Exercise Simulating War With Iran - AP

Israeli defense officials say the country's air force has completed a large-scale exercise simulating war on several fronts with enemies that include Iran. They say this week's exercise included Israel's entire air arm and was meant to prepare for an all-out war, including missile attacks aimed at Israeli cities.

• We pray for protection for Israel in this dangerous time and pray for the minds of the Israelis and other intelligence agencies to be clear and focused in order to stop any potential attacks.

• "Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men! Let all the soldiers draw near, let them come up!" (Joel 3:9)

California Supreme Court to Rule on Prop 8 on Tuesday

Capitol Resource Institute asks for prayer:

The California Supreme Court will announce its Proposition 8 ruling on Tuesday, May 26.

The ruling will address whether Prop 8 is a proper and acceptable amendment of the California Constitution. If the amendment process is upheld, man-woman marriage will stay in the state Constitution. If the court rules against Prop 8, that definition of marriage will be removed.
Be in prayer over this Memorial Day weekend, as California prepares for the highly anticipated announcement from our state Supreme Court.

The implications of this ruling are profound, from the institution of marriage itself to the message that our laws send to the next generation.

Opponents of the Prop 8 amendment process are planning statewide demonstrations -- either celebrations or protests -- May 26. They also plan a "Meet in the Middle" rally in Fresno for Saturday, May 30th, as part of their efforts to move the state away from man-woman marriage.

Capitol Resource Institute will issue a statement this coming Tuesday, once the ruling is public.

• Father God, we come before Your Throne of Grace on behalf of this key ruling. Lord God, we ask that You would move upon the hearts of the judges in the Supreme Court of the State of California to judge with WISDOM and according to RIGHTEOUS STANDARDS. May each one rule in the fear of GOD, which brings wisdom. We ask this in Jesus' Name, amen.

• "Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching God." (Isaiah 58:2)

A MEMORIAL DAY TRIBUTE

This is an article that describes the ritual that happens every Friday morning at the Pentagon--a story that has not been covered by the press but should be in the minds and hearts of every American.

FRIDAY MORNING AT THE PENTAGON

Over the last 12 months, 1,042 soldiers, Marines, sailors and Air Force personnel have given their lives in the terrible duty that is war. Thousands more have come home on stretchers, horribly wounded and facing months or years in military hospitals.

This week, I'm turning my space over to a good friend and former roommate, Army Lt. Col. Robert Bateman, who recently completed a year long tour of duty in Iraq and is now back at the Pentagon.

Here's Lt. Col. Bateman's account of a little-known ceremony that fills the halls of the Army corridor of the Pentagon with cheers, applause and many tears every Friday morning. It first appeared on May 17 on the Weblog of media critic and pundit Eric Alterman at the Media Matters for America Website.

"It is 110 yards from the "E" ring to the "A" ring of the Pentagon. This section of the Pentagon is newly renovated; the floors shine, the hallway is broad, and the lighting is bright. At this instant the entire length of the corridor is packed with officers, a few sergeants and some civilians, all crammed tightly three and four deep against the walls. There are thousands here.

This hallway, more than any other, is the Army' hallway. The G3 offices line one side, G2 the other, G8 is around the corner. All Army. Moderate conversations flow in a low buzz. Friends who may not have seen each other for a few weeks, or a few years, spot each other, cross the way and renew their friendships.

Everyone shifts to ensure an open path remains down the center. The air conditioning system was not designed for this press of bodies in this area. The temperature is rising already. Nobody cares.10:36 hours: The clapping starts at the E-Ring. That is the outer most of the five rings of the Pentagon and it is closest to the entrance to the building.. This clapping is low, sustained, hearty. It is applause with a deep emotion behind it as it moves forward in a wave down the length of the hallway.

A steady rolling wave of sound it is, moving at the pace of the soldier in the wheelchair who marks the forward edge with his presence. He is the first. He is missing the greater part of one leg, and some of his wounds are still suppurating. By his age I expect that he is a private, or perhaps a private first class.

Captains, majors, lieutenant colonels and colonels meet his gaze and nod as they applaud, soldier to soldier. Three years ago when I described one of these events, those lining the hallways were somewhat different. The applause a little wilder, perhaps in private guilt for not having shared in the burden - yet.

Now almost everyone lining the hallway is, like the man in the wheelchair, also a combat veteran. This steadies the applause, but I think deepens the sentiment. We have all been there now. The soldier's chair is pushed by, I believe, a full colonel. Behind him, and stretching the length from Rings E to A, come more of his peers, each private, corporal, or sergeant assisted as need be by a field grade officer.

11:00 hours: Twenty-four minutes of steady applause. My hands hurt, and I laugh to myself at how stupid that sounds in my own head. My hands hurt. Please! Shut up and clap. For twenty-four minutes, soldier after soldier has come down this hallway - 20, 25, 30. Fifty-three legs come with them, and perhaps only 52 hands or arms, but down this hall came 30 solid hearts.

They pass down this corridor of officers and applause, and then meet for a private lunch, at which they are the guests of honor, hosted by the generals. Some are wheeled along. Some insist upon getting out of their chairs, to march as best they can with their chin held up, down this hallway, through this most unique audience. Some are catching handshakes and smiling like a politician at a Fourth of July parade. More than a couple of them seem amazed and are smiling shyly.
There are families with them as well: the 18-year-old war-bride pushing her 19-year-old husband's wheelchair and not quite understanding why her husband is so affected by this, the boy she grew up with, now a man, who had never shed a tear is crying; the older immigrant Latino parents who have, perhaps more than their wounded mid-20's son, an appreciation for the emotion given on their son's behalf. No man in that hallway, walking or clapping, is ashamed by the silent tears on more than a few cheeks. An Airborne Ranger wipes his eyes only to better see. A couple of the officers in this crowd have themselves been a part of this parade in the past.

These are our men, broken in body they may be, but they are our brothers, and we welcome them home. This parade has gone on, every single Friday, all year long, for more than four years.

Did you know that? The media hasn't yet told the story . . and probably never will.

We must with great passion remember all those who died for our freedom and each family that continues to carry painful memories and loss due to their dedication defending America for each of us and our future. The set time for our "National Moment of Remembrance" is 3PM Eastern Time. A time set aside to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and we are the beneficiaries of that sacrifice.
Please continue to pray for national repentance and revival, our government, military, Israel, poverty, each policy of our nation to reflect our Godly roots, youth of America, national debt, the stock market to rebound and stabilize, educational system, environment, justice, religious liberty, immigration and Godliness.

Amen.

1. Obama to Say it's Time to Divide Jerusalem - No, Obama, It's Not -- Joel Rosenberg

I'm horrified by reports this morning that in his June 4th speech in Cairo, President Obama will say it is time to divide Jerusalem and make the holy city the capital of a Palestinian state.

No, Obama, it is not.

Jerusalem is and should be the eternal, undivided capital of the Jewish people and the Jewish state. Dividing Jerusalem will not make peace. Rather, it would send a message to every Radical Islamic jihadist around the world that Israel is weak, that the Jews won't even defend the sovereignty of their own capital, that there is "blood in the water," and that it is time to strike Israel and wipe her off the map. Dividing Jerusalem would trigger an apocalyptic war in the Middle East the likes of which the region has never seen.

• Pray that this plan to divide Jerusalem will be thwarted at every turn, and that God will rise up and deliver His city!

• "So you shall know that I am the lord your God, dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no aliens shall ever pass through her again." (Joel 3:17)

2. Senate to Approve Obama's $91B War Fund - Fox News

President Barack Obama is likely to get a sweeping bipartisan endorsement when the Senate votes on his request for continuing military and diplomatic operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

• Lord, we offer Praise for funding of military operations, and ask that You provide enough funds for the proper protection of our troops. We ask that the money be well used and not be siphoned off for purposes that are not productive.

• "Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, and the strength of salvation; the fear of the Lord is His treasure." (Isaiah 33:6)

3. Obama Tries to Circle Square That is Guantanamo Box - Fox News

Obama on Thursday stood steadfast in his commitment to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and announced five categories of prisoner that the administration will use to evaluate their cases.

• Lord, in spite of being dealt a defeat in Congress over this issue, the agenda to close Guantanamo is being pushed ahead. We pray that any plan created by this administration will not prosper unless it is forged by Your wisdom and guiding hand. We humbly call for Your protection over America and her allies against the release of these prisoners whether in the US or abroad.

• "Let them curse, but You bless; when they arise, let them be ashamed." (Psalm 109:28a)

4. NYC Police: Terror Suspects Wanted to Commit "Jihad" -- AP

As part of a holy war against America, four men sought to commit jihad when they plotted to bomb a synagogue and shoot down military planes in upstate New York, the New York City police commissioner said Thursday.

• Lord, we praise You that these men were caught before a tragedy was committed.

• "Though his hatred is concealed by deception, his evil will be revealed in the assembly." (Proverbs 26:26)

5. Congress Sends Obama Major New Credit Card Rules - AP

Congress on Wednesday sent Barack Obama a bill with sweeping new rules for the credit card industry that will affect just about every American.

• Father, we pray that this plan will indeed assist people who are faithful. If it punishes the faithful ones who work hard to pay on time and make payments, we ask that You will intervene to challenge it in the courts immediately. We ask that You help Your people be delivered from the harsh rule of the spirits of slavery to credit card debt.

• "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous." (Proverbs 13:22)

6. Ministers Issue Call to National Repentance -- Charisma News

A cross-section of Christian leaders on Tuesday issued a call for churchgoers to kneel in prayer on July 5, not for the nation, but for the body of Christ.

"We're asking churches as an act of humility, on behalf of the church first and the nation second, to get on our knees and cry out to God on July 5," said Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins, who is spearheading the initiative being dubbed the Call2Fall. "On July 4 we celebrate our independence, and it's our desire on July 5 to declare our dependence upon God as a people and as a nation."

• Lord, we are so grateful for this action on the part of church leaders. We fervently and humbly ask You to move on the hearts of Your people to pray in truth and repentance on July 5. May every person who is called by Your Name hear and answer this call! And may the power of Your Holy Spirit come like a flood, filling the church with anointing and fresh relationship to You.

• "And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting." (Acts 2:2)

7. Obama OKs nuclear deal with United Arab Emirates - Jerusalem Post

Global media report that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu "stood firm" against pressure from the Obama administration Monday on the issue of a "two-state solution" with the Palestinian Authority.

"The Israeli prime minister stood firm," reported France24 after the talk between President Barack Obama and Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. "He said he is ready to negotiate with the Palestinians but only if they recognized Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state."

2. US to fully fund Arrow 3 missile system - Jerusalem Post

The US has said it will provide the full funding for the development and production of the Arrow 3 anti-missile system, defense officials told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.

3. U.S., Russian experts: Iran could have nukes in 1 to 3 years - Ha'aretz

Iran could produce a simple nuclear device in one to three years and a nuclear warhead in another five years after that, a group of U.S. and Russian scientists and experts said in a report issued Tuesday.

4. Clinton: No more settlement construction - Jerusalem Post

Sharp differences emerged between the US and Israel over the settlement issue on Wednesday - one day after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu concluded his first official visit to the White House - with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calling for an absolute stop to all settlement activity and sources close to the prime minister saying the terms of a settlement freeze still needed to be defined.

Netanyahu: "Jerusalem Will Always be Ours"

(IsraelNN.com) "Jerusalem was always ours, will always be ours, and will never again be divided," said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Thursday in a speech in honor of Jerusalem Day.

Netanyahu spoke at Ammunition Hill, a memorial for Israeli soldiers who fell in battle during the Six Day War. The war ended the Jordanian occupation of historic Jerusalem and led to the reunification of the city.

"You, who fought to liberate Jerusalem, removed the strangulating hold over the city with your bodies," Netanyahu said, addressing the fallen soldiers. "You reunited the city and allowed Jerusalem to flourish once again."

Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem benefits Muslims and Christians as well as Jews, Netanyahu said. "Only under Israeli sovereignty is continued freedom of worship and free access to Christian, Muslim and Jewish holy sites guaranteed," he stated. "Only thus can members of all faiths and all minority groups continue to live in security."

Peres: Jerusalem Our Capital

President Shimon Peres spoke as well, affirming the Jewish connection to Jerusalem while dismissing other claims to the city. "Jerusalem was and remains the capital of Israel. Israel has never had another capital city, and Jerusalem has never been the capital city of another people," he told the crowd.

Like Netanyahu, Peres reminded his listeners that only under Jewish rule were members of all faiths welcome to pray at their holy sites.

Peres offered his sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the battle for Jerusalem. The fallen soldiers "saved what is most precious to us throughout the generations, Jerusalem," he said.
• Offer praise for this stand on the part of Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding the sovereignty of the city of Jerusalem, for this position is based squarely upon the Word of God. Continue to ask our God to strengthen Mr. Netanyahu as he stands for an undivided Jerusalem. Amen.

Netanyahu to Obama: "Stop Iran or I Will!"

Israeli journalists who attended the press briefing after B. Hussein Obama's protracted Monday meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the two men as "grim and formal." Both seemed to come away from their session with a wariness towards each other, "like circling prizefighters," as Tim McGirk of Time.com phrased it.

In an interview conducted shortly before he was sworn into office at the end of March, Benjamin Netanyahu laid down a challenge for B. Hussein Obama. The American president, Netanyahu said, must stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons - and quickly - or an imperiled Israel may be forced to attack Iran's nuclear facilities itself. Netanyahu held to this position on Monday and came away with an assurance from Obama that he would give Tehran until the end of this year to put the brakes on its nuclear weapons programs. If not, the U.S. will push for sanctions. If those fail, Washington is keeping open the option of a military strike. Security sources told TIME that soon after taking office, Obama urged the Pentagon to formulate a military plan to take out Iranian nuclear facilities in 2010. (Time.com 5/19/09)

But in exchange for a tough U.S. line on Iran, it was unclear whether Netanyahu would oblige Obama on at least giving lip service to a "two-state solution" and on halting the building of settlements.

The Palestinians continue to lack coherent leadership. Hamas declared earlier this month: "We won't accept a two-state solution," yet said it might still be part of a "national unity government if a Palestinian state is established based on 1967 borders." The discordant Palestinian terrorist factions have been in dialogue in Cairo, Egypt for months. (Haaretz 5/12/09)

Obama came across as "a man not easily deterred" and has set his sights on a regional peace initiative, is roping in moderate Arab states, which he will unveil on a June 4th visit to Cairo.

The Israeli public is bracing itself for a tougher approach from Washington. A cartoonist with the Israeli Haaretz newspaper showed Obama escorting Netanyahu across the White House lawn and telling him, "You can take the subway to your hotel. Next time you're around, give me a call." Sadly, this sort of casual send-off isn't what Israeli leaders are accustomed to when visiting the White House. (Time.com 5/19/09)

• Intercede that the Lord will thwart any diabolical scheming during Obama's June 4th meeting with terrorist factions and "moderate" Arab leaders in Cairo, Egypt. (Prayers offered by Intercessors for America)

The Daily Jot: The Senate and the White House

The White House must be moving too aggressively by linking Israel's movement on a Palestinian state with America's efforts to prevent a nuclear Iran. The Democratic controlled Senate, usually considered a rubber stamp for the man who occupies the Oval Office, used its own brand of nuance diplomacy to warn the president about his reckless policy approach with America's strongest ally in the Middle East. 76 Members of the Senate signed on to a letter sent to Obama cautioning him on his approach to forcing Israel into accepting the establishment of a Palestinian state without meeting the needs of Israeli sovereignty, and reminding him that Israel is a longstanding friend.

While many analysts might look at the letter as supportive of the US position taken by the current Administration, the language in the letter suggests a concern rarely aired in public to the office of the President by such a large majority in the Senate. The Senators said that any agreement requires adherence to key principles: "These include an understanding that while the United States has an important role to play, the parties themselves are the ones who will need to negotiate and live with whatever agreement is reached. As we work closely with our democratic ally, Israel, we must take into account the risks it will face in any peace agreement."

The letter seemed to take the tone that Senators were concerned that Obama is soft on terrorism. Senators warned: "We must also continue to insist on the absolute Palestinian commitment to ending terrorist violence and to building the institutions necessary for a viable Palestinian state living side-by-side, in peace with the Jewish state of Israel." The Senators emphasized that the Palestinian government must have strong security forces in order to prevent terrorism and to be able to foment and enforce peace with Israel. And the Senators encouraged the president to "promote far greater involvement and participation by the Arab states both in moving toward normal ties with Israel and in encouraging moderate Palestinian elements."

Trial balloons have surfaced recently in Washington that the president wants to divide Jerusalem and force Israel to accept a plan that essentially cuts Israel in half to accommodate a Palestinian state that includes Gaza to Israel's West and traditional Jewish lands of Samaria and Judea on Israel's East connected by a highway. This would be like trying to build a secure highway connecting Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona to New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and part of Washington, DC, and giving those states to Iran. Zechariah 12:3 says, "And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces." Maybe the Senate is finding some wisdom.

House Committee Approves Flawed State Dept. Bill

The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee voted Wednesday in favor of H.R. 2410, the Foreign Relations Authorization Act. Two key Republican amendments were defeated.

The funding bill establishes an Office for Global Women's Issues, which life advocates believe will promote abortion overseas. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., offered an amendment that would have added pro-life language to the legislation. "It is absolutely imperative that women never be regarded or reduced to the status of objects or second-class citizens," he said during the debate. "The same is true, I would respectfully submit to my colleagues, of unborn children."

H.R. 2410 also requires the U.S. government to track violence in other countries that is "based on actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity." The committee rejected an amendment by Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., which sought to replace the language with a statement supporting universal human rights.

"I oppose mandating that our secretary of State, diplomatic and consular staff promote a gay-rights agenda around the globe, over and above other issues, Pence said.

Proposed transportation benefits for same-sex partners of foreign service members were removed from the bill, but Committee Chairman Howard Berman, D-Calif., said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has told him she will add the benefits anyway.

Meanwhile, the Domestic Partners Benefits and Obligations Act has been introduced in the House and Senate. It is identical to legislation brought up during the last session of Congress, and would give same-sex partners of federal employees the same benefits as married couples. (CitizenLink)

Surprise Victory for Traditional Marriage in N.H.!!

This week, New England's homosexual activists had planned to celebrate the five-year anniversary of counterfeit marriage by welcoming the state of New Hampshire into the fold. But just three days after the May 17 celebration of court-imposed gay "marriage" in Massachusetts, the Granite State cut the party short.

In a stunning victory for families that took both sides by surprise, the state legislature pulled an incredible upset yesterday and defeated language that would have made New Hampshire the sixth state to legalize counterfeit marriage. By just two votes (188-186), the House refused to pass the religious exemptions requested by Gov. John Lynch (D)--just hours after the Senate approved the same wording on party lines (14-10). The amendment, which seemed like a done deal Wednesday morning, has now thrown the entire prospect of same-sex "marriage" for New Hampshire in doubt.
That's just fine with state residents, who, according to a new poll, are overwhelmingly opposed to counterfeit marriage. In a survey of sampling households in New Hampshire--all 432,398 of them--64% agreed that the union of a man and a woman should be the only legal definition of marriage in their state.

Gov. Lynch used to be among them, saying repeatedly in the days leading up to this debate that he "oppose[s] gay marriage." He later crumbled under the political pressure and broke his promise, saying that he had "a responsibility to look through a broader lens." Instead of standing on principle, Gov. Lynch suggested a flimsy compromise as a condition for his signature.

Now that the provision has failed, voters want to know where his veto is! The bill to legalize same-sex "marriage" has been sitting on the Senate President's desk since the Governor demanded religious exemptions. Since those conditions were not met, Gov. Lynch should demand the bill so he can veto it.

While the state waits on Lynch to hold up his end of the bargain, the bill on religious exemptions now heads to conference. The Speaker and Senate President (both Democrats) will be responsible for appointing the members to the conference committee. Although they're expected to pick liberals who will vote with them, the rules clearly state that they must include at least one member from the other party. If the bill doesn't pass out of the conference unanimously, it will die. FRC will keep you updated on the committee activity as it happens. (Family Research Council)

In other breaking marriage news, FRC is happy to report that Congressmen Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.) officially introduced a D.C. Defense of Marriage Act in the U.S. House today to block the City Council's push to legalize same-sex "marriage" in the nation's capital. At a press conference today with area pastors led by Bishop Harry Jackson, Rep. Jordan announced his intent to fight in Congress to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Bibles in the News

Burning Bibles?

After weeks of rumors, Jake Tapper of ABC News has confirmed that Bibles sent to U.S. troops in Afghanistan were confiscated and destroyed. The Bibles were translated into the predominate Afghan languages and were intended as gifts U.S. soldiers could give to the people. The Pentagon said the Bibles were a violation of regulations prohibiting proselytizing and could endanger the lives of our forces in the overwhelmingly Muslim nation.

But even if that argument is compelling, it is outrageous that the Bibles were burned or destroyed in some other way. The U.S. military has been ordered to go to extraordinary lengths not to "defile" a Koran. At GITMO our soldiers are required to wear gloves when handling that book so as not to offend Muslims. Is it too much to ask that orders be issued that Bibles be handled with as much respect?

When a Koran is mishandled Muslims riot all over the world. In contrast, when the Bible is defaced there are no riots in the Bible Belt, because we tend to remember the teachings of Christ that urge us to "turn the other cheek." Frankly, I am running out of cheeks.

And Don't Quote It Either!

It is a bad week for the Bible. GQ Magazine has published a hit piece on former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Among his "sins" exposed in the lengthy article is that when Rumsfeld sent top secret briefings on Iraq and national security to President Bush, the front page often included - are you ready for this? - a BIBLE VERSE!!! Egad! Horror of horrors! Appoint a special prosecutor! Call the ACLU! Horsewhip him!

God bless Secretary Rumsfeld. In the middle of a war against death worshippers, he thought it was good to remind the president of the God who is the author of our liberty with "Seek the Lord and His Strength; seek His face continually," (1 Chron 16:11) or "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Gary Bauer; End-of-Day; May 20, 2009)

1. Steele Says Republican Party Has 'Turned the Corner' - FoxNews.com

Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele on Tuesday hailed the beginning of a Republican "renaissance," calling on the GOP to stop apologizing for itself and focus on winning. Steele delivered a speech on the future of the party to state GOP chairmen gathering outside Washington for a special meeting Wednesday of the Republican National Committee. But Steele steered away from addressing the lingering internal conflicts that could hinder his call for party unity.

• Offer much praise to the Lord that the RNC is finally taking the gloves off to do it's job for the nation. Praise God that the veil of deception and the spirit of delusion is beginning to lift! Keep praying! Thank God for restoring the United States of America back to who we are and continue to intercede for the weeding out process of conflicting issues so our leaders can remain focused on moving forward as we have indeed 'turned the corner", in Jesus name.

2. Obama, Netanyahu at odds over Iran, talks - The Washington Times

President Obama on Monday said Iran must show progress by the end of this year toward curbing its nuclear program, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House that revealed stark disagreement and some tension between the two charismatic leaders.

During one of the most high-stakes meetings of Mr. Obama's young presidency, he and the recently elected Israeli leader did their best to portray a united front on the issues of confronting Iran's nuclear ambitions and of Middle East peace talks.

But it was clear from their public statements that the two men, whose private one-on-one meeting went 30 minutes beyond the hour scheduled and was described by one high-ranking White House official as "warm" and "intense", were engaged in a push and pull over Washington's desire for more movement from Jerusalem towards peace negotiations, and Jerusalem's demand that Washington ensure that Iran be stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons.

• Father, Prime Minister Netanyahu has made it clear that his intent to engage in the peace process is predicated on a number of actions by the Palestinians, as well as by the United States, as it relates to Iran. Pray that the eyes and ears of Mr. Obama would be opened and receptive to this and that global tension, schemes and agendas with undo pressure concerning Israel would take a back seat to her need and right to protection and sovereignty. In this extremely difficult and dangerous time for Israel, intercede for God's ultimate and perfect plan of blessing, and covenant with His people to be served on all fronts. One day all nations will recognize the Lord of Glory as their Desire. As He has already paid the price and as He presses in to apprehend all that belongs to Him, ask for nothing less than God's costly, perfect will to come together now.

3. Democrats concede on Guantanamo Bay - Cross Action News

In a clear setback for President Barack Obama, Senate Democrats moved Tuesday to both wipe out $80 million in new funding for the closing of Guantanamo detention facility and bar the administration from moving prisoners to U.S. soil until there is a more detailed plan provided to lawmakers.

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) confirmed the decision, which follows intense pressure from Republicans going into debate over a $91.3 billion wartime spending bill expected to come to the floor late Tuesday.

• Oh Father, we thank and praise You that You alone are a stronghold for the American people! Continue to pray that lawmakers would challenge and pressure this administration to do that which is strong and stringent when it comes to dealing with terrorists. Pray that these prisoners will never wind up on our soil at our own doing. Intercede for leaders who stood and will continue to stand against the unspeakable and costly notion that this was somehow a good idea. Pray that Mr. Obama will back off of this pricey, horrific, and senseless conception.

4. State Department.: Iran Missile Test a Step in 'Wrong Direction' - FOXNews.com

The U.S. State Department said Iran "keeps going in the wrong direction" and urged it to "halt" its development of nuclear and missile programs after the country launched a long-range missile Wednesday -- capable of hitting Israel and other targets in the Middle East.

"Both we, the United States, and the entire international community have long expressed our serious concerns concerning Iran's missile development efforts," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said Wednesday.

"In U.N. Security Council Resolution 1737, the Security Council expressed the determination to constrain Iran's development of sensitive technologies in support of its nuclear and missile programs, and prohibited states from transferring specified goods and providing other assistance to Iran related to the development of nuclear weapons delivery systems, including ballistic missiles," Kelly said.

• Please pray that as rogue nations become emboldened to test our resolve, the US will meet them with the only logical answer, "Not on our watch!", and that we will first and foremost keep our commitment to Israel. As CIA Director Leon Panetta has called Iran a "destabilizing force in the Middle East", ask the Father to give our Intelligence His wisdom and the guidance with which to assess Iran's intentions. Pray that we act quickly on Israel's behalf as PM Netanyahu has pressed Obama to step up pressure on Tehran when the two met in Washington on Monday. Decree in the spirit that no weapon formed against Israel will harm her and that Iran will be caught in it's own trap.

5. U.S. Courts Should 'Download' International Law into Domestic Law, Obama Nominee Says - Cross Action News

Harold Koh, nominated by President Barack Obama to be the State Department's top legal adviser, once argued that U.S. federal court judges - including the Supreme Court - are the "critical link" between international and domestic law and play a critical role in bringing international norms into force as domestic law.

Koh, currently dean of the Yale Law School, explained that his concept of "transnationalism" was the "downloading" of international laws and customs into domestic law, whether through the legislative process or through federal courts' use of international law in interpreting the Constitution of the United States.

• Father, with more audacity than Americans can stomach, Mr. Koh is now even dividing the U.S. Supreme Court into "transnationalist" and "nationalist" camps, saying that unlike the transnationalists, the court's nationalist justices favored "yesterday's issues" such as federalism, abortion, and religion. Intercede that this kind of arrogant global thinking will not be allowed to bleed into what our forefathers fought and died for, sovereignty and freedom for the people of the United States of America. Catch this in prayer early, before the Father's throne, as this would harm and reformat our country in ways which our framers have not only protected us from, but have warned us about.

• I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. (Acts 20:29-30)

6. Over Thousand Muslim Clerics Watch Gospel Film In Syria (Investigation) - Worthy News

A film about the life of the biblical Apostle Paul, which "clearly reflects the Gospel," has been watched in Syria by over a thousand Muslim clerics and politicians, including a government minister, organizers said. The 77-minutes movie, described as "a tool for evangelism", was shown March 13 in an Opera theater of Syria's capital Damascus, revealed Worthy News' Netherlands-based news partner.

In comments, monitored by Worthy News Monday, May 18, organizers said the film was produced by Syrian Protestant Christians in close cooperation with mission group Agapè and Campus Crusade for Christ, one of the world's largest evangelism movements. Some 1135 people, most of them Muslim clerics and politicians, including a minister of Culture, as well as some journalists, watched the March premiere in Damascus, confirmed film adviser Joel Rosenberg, who is also an author of romantic best sellers about the world's last days.

As Mr. Rosenberg has said that those who watched were enthusiastic and some even rejoiced, pray that God's Word will not return void, but will prosper where He sends it. Jeff Jansen Rebukes a Tornado on Good Friday

On Good Friday, April 10, 2009, an EF-4 tornado emerged on the outskirts of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The intensity of an EF-4 has devastating damage with winds up to 166 to 200 mph, and brings complete destruction of well-built residences, large sections of school buildings. As it began to sweep through Jeff's ministry's side of town, the tornado ripped to shreds anything that stood in its way.

Jeff Jansen, founder of Global Fire Ministries, stood outside the office with a few of his staff who had a video camera in hand. When the tornado appeared in the distance, many people in the community ran for cover-the tornado was heading directly for us! Jeff rebuked the tornado and immediately it dissipated. As it lifted, it only took moments before it was directly over the office. The fierce wind blew for minutes-except for the several seconds when we were directly in the eye of the storm. Before exiting Murfreesboro, it touched down again on the other side of town causing more damage.

Despite all the destruction the tornado caused, many buildings, families, and lives were spared because of the Power of the Spoken Word.

As Spirit-filled sons and daughters of the Kingdom, we have authority over the elements (wind) like Jesus demonstrated when He walked the earth. This is an example of the authority that we possess as the offspring of God.

1. Credit card reforms up for Senate vote - Forbes.com

Legislation that would impose new restrictions on the industry was expected to pass the Senate on Tuesday. With the House having endorsed a similar measure already, Democratic leaders said they hoped to send a final version to the president to sign by week's end. The banking industry is pushing back, warning lawmakers that the legislation would restrict credit at a time when Americans need it most.

• Heavenly Father, we pray for elected officials to correct our credit card rules with the right legislation. Let it be a fair one to everyone and let the government not over regulate to the point companies cannot grow.

• Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. (Proverbs 11:1)

2. U.S. to expand jail immigration checks: report - Reuters

The Obama administration is expanding immigration checks to nearly all local jails, which could sharply increase U.S. deportation cases, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday. Expanding the program could result in a tenfold increase in illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes and identified for deportation, the report said, citing current and former U.S. officials.

• Lord, we pray for order and civility so there will be no abuses in carrying out the orders concerning immigration checks. We pray this will never be a source to persecute any group of people or individuals.

• When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan. (Proverbs 29:2)

3. Pentagon briefings no longer quote Bible - AP

The Pentagon said Monday it no longer includes a Bible quote on the cover page of daily intelligence briefings it sends to the White House as was practice during the Bush administration. The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, on Monday said U.S. soldiers "are not Christian crusaders, and they ought not be depicted as such."

• Heavenly Father, we ask Your forgiveness for the rebelliousness of our nation to go against You! We pray that You will quickly remove those who are burdening our nation with laws against You and replace them with righteous people.

• "So you shall say to them, 'This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the Lord their God nor receive correction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth. (Jeremiah 7:28)

4. Unemployment Rate Calls Stimulus Claims Into Question - CBS

Obama's economic advisors released a report saying that, without the stimulus, unemployment would hit around 8.5 percent by April 2009, and 7.8 percent with it. A Democratic Congress quickly approved the legislation. But what may not be as obvious is that even with the stimulus, current unemployment is far worse than the Obama administration had predicted: it's already 8.9 percent.

• Lord, we pray for wise leadership to get this economy back on track. Give us people who love You and serve You who will have solid, creative ideas how to get the economy moving again.

• Happy are your men and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom! (2 Chronicles 9:7)

5. Justices reject 9/11 detainee's lawsuit - MSNBC

"There is no principled basis for the majority's disregard of the allegations linking Ashcroft and Mueller to their subordinates' discrimination," Souter wrote. The court's liberal justices - David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer and John Paul Stevens - dissented from the court's opinion.

• Thank You, Lord, for not allowing this lawsuit to go forward. We pray that those seeking to change laws concerning our safety will not be able to succeed. Let only just laws be accepted and enacted.

6. Obama prods Netanyahu, Iran in Mideast foray - AP

President Barack Obama on Monday opened his deepest foray into the Middle East quagmire, telling Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu he must stop Jewish settlements and should grasp a "historic opportunity" to make peace with the Palestinians. Obama also had pointed words for Iran.

• Lord, we pray for Prime Minister Netanyahu to not be swayed by plans to accept any attempts to divide Israel from what You ordained; let it be blocked. Let only plans that are pleasing to You be adopted.

• I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land. (Joel 3:2)

7. Netanyahu Resists Call For Two-State Solution - Fox News

Obama, Netanyahu Agree on Peace, Differ on Priorities

President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agree peace needs to come to the Middle East but their visions may differ, as the U.S. leader called Monday for a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians and Netanyahu made no mention of a nation for the Arab people.

• Father God, we praise You that the Prime Minister of the nation of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has held firm in his message to the nations: Israel will not support the "two-state solution" for peace in the Middle East; and the threat of a nuclear Iran is the most pressing danger that region faces now. Praise God.

• "Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; . . ." (Matthew 5:37)

Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said on Monday that an IDF exercise scheduled to take place at the end of the month could be a sign that Israel is preparing for another war, and added that his organization would be on high alert during the exercise.

2. Obama: U.S. backs Palestinian statehood, no Iran deadline - Ha'aretz

U.S. President Barack Obama voiced support for creation of a Palestinian state in talks on Monday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held back from endorsing the main cornerstone of Washington's Mideast policy.

PSALM 91 -- A PSALM OF PROTECTION

F. L. Rawson, was a noted engineer and one of England's great scientists. He relates to the story of a British regiment under the command of a Colonel Whittlesey, which served in World War I for more than four years without losing a man. When asked how his regiment was able to serve four years in the thick of battle without a single causality, Colonel Whittlesey said it was because the officers and men in that regiment memorized and repeated regularly the 91st Psalm, which they called their "Psalm of Protection".

PSALM 91:

We live within the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered by the God who is above all gods. This I declare, that he alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him.
For he rescues you from every trap and protects you from the fatal plague.

He will shield you with his wings! They will shelter you. His faithful promises are your armor.
Now you don't need to be afraid of the dark any more, nor fear the dangers of the day; nor dread the plagues of darkness, nor disasters in the morning.

Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, the evil will not touch me.

For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go.

You can safely meet a lion or step on poisonous snakes, yes, even trample them beneath your feet!

For the Lord says, "Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will make him great because he trusts in my name.

When he calls on me, I will answer; I will be with him in trouble and rescue him and honor him.
I will satisfy him with a full life and give him my salvation."
