A "permanent ceasefire" in northeast Syria

President Trump secures permanent ceasefire in northeast Syria

In a major address today, President Donald J. Trump said that Turkey has agreed to turn their recent ceasefire along the Syrian border into a permanent agreement. As a result, the U.S. Treasury has lifted all of its recently imposed sanctions on Turkey.

The agreement achieved by the Trump Administration, including the original 5-day ceasefire negotiated last week, has helped save lives and allow the Kurds to safely leave affected areas. These actions will help secure a more peaceful and stable border between Turkey and Syria. Ultimately, however, responsibility rests with those countries.
"How many Americans must die in the Middle East in the midst of these ancient sectarian and tribal conflicts?" President Trump asked. "After all of the precious blood and treasure America has poured into the deserts of the Middle East, I am committed to pursuing a different course-one that leads to victory for America."

The United States expects Turkey to honor its commitments in the efforts to counter ISIS. We have defeated the Islamic State caliphate, and now it's time for others in the region to step up and ensure ISIS does not regain territory.

"Should Turkey fail to honor its obligations-including the protection of religious and ethnic minorities-we reserve the right to re-impose crippling sanctions, including substantially increased tariffs on steel and all other products coming out of Turkey," President Trump said.

Tough diplomacy, backed by American economic power and strength, saves lives. It also avoids the worst instincts of the Washington foreign policy establishment. "We have avoided another costly military intervention that could've led to disastrous, far-reaching consequences. Many thousands of people could've been killed," the President said.

Bottom line: President Trump will not send tens of thousands of American troops into never-ending conflict in Syria. He is not going to continue the disastrous policies of the previous Administration in the Middle East. And, most important, he is not going to get America into another endless war that costs us countless lives and resources.

1. Israel said bracing for direct cruise missile or drone attack by Iran - Times of Israel

Israel is readying for a direct cruise missile or drone strike by Tehran in response to recent attacks on Iranian regional proxies which have been attributed to the Jewish state, Army Radio reported Tuesday evening.

Unlike ballistic missiles, which usually fly through a high arc on the way to the target, cruise missiles and drones fly at low altitude, making them harder to detect.

The report cited anonymous "Israeli sources," who said the IDF was already on high alert for the possibility and that the security cabinet will convene for an "unplanned" meeting next Tuesday against a backdrop of tensions with the Islamic Republic.

2. Turkey, Russia reach deal for YPG move out of Syria border area - aljazeera.com

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says a deal has been reached with Russia for Kurdish fighters to withdraw from a Turkish-ruled "safe zone" in northeast Syria within 150 hours, after which Ankara and Moscow will run joint patrols around the area.

The announcement was made after marathon talks in Sochi between Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, hours before a United States-brokered five-day truce between Turkish and Kurdish-led forces was due to expire.

According to the deal announced at a joint news conference in Sochi, Ankara will control a 32km-wide (20 miles) area between the towns of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, which covers 120km (75 miles) of the Turkish-Syrian border.

Beginning on Wednesday at noon, Russian military police and Syrian border guards will start removing the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which spearhead the SDF, and their weapons 30km (19 miles) from the border area. Once this is complete, within 150 hours, Turkish and Russian forces will run joint patrols 10km (six miles) to the east and west of the zone.

3. Blue and White said weighing bill requiring Netanyahu to step down if indicted - TImes of Israel

The Blue and White party is weighing introducing legislation, already next week, that would require Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down from his post if an indictment is filed in the three criminal cases against him, Channel 13 news reported Tuesday.

Benny Gantz's centrist alliance could introduce the bill as early as next Monday when it gains control of the key Knesset Arrangements Committee, a temporary committee that replaces the role of the House Committee in introducing legislation until a new government is formed.

4. Following Netanyahu's Failure to Form a Government, What Comes Next? - algemeiner.com

For the first time in a decade, someone other than Benjamin Netanyahu will be asked to form a government in Israel. The 70-year-old prime minister has called two elections this year, has twice been given the chance by the president to put together a ruling coalition, and has twice failed.

The fact that President Reuven Rivlin will now turn to someone else leaves Netanyahu even more vulnerable in his fight for political survival. But although he has failed, the man now set to try his hand, centrist general-turned-politician Benny Gantz, also has no clear path to success.

After receiving the formal nomination from Rivlin, on Wednesday or Thursday, Gantz will have 28 days to build a coalition. As things stand now, he has the endorsement of 54 lawmakers, seven short of a parliamentary majority.

But 10 of the those 54 legislators belong to a four-party Arab alliance. No party drawn from Israel's 21 percent Arab minority has ever been invited to join an Israeli government or has sought to serve in one.

5. Esper Tours Saudi Military Site as U.S. Readies Troop Buildup - Wall Street Journal

PRINCE SULTAN AIR BASE, Saudi Arabia-Defense Secretary Mark Esper met Tuesday with the king of Saudi Arabia during a tour of the kingdom's military facilities as the U.S. pursues its biggest Middle East troop buildup of the Trump administration.

Mr. Esper arrived in Saudi Arabia Monday as the U.S. steps up support for Riyadh against a recent series of attacks on Saudi oil industry facilities and tankers blamed on Iran. The trip also comes amid strained U.S.-Saudi relations and growing Russian influence in the region,

Earlier this month, the U.S. military announced that it would deploy 2,000 troops, three new antimissile systems, two squadrons of jet fighters and other equipment to Saudi Arabia in an accelerating U.S. buildup meant to counter Iranian hostilities in the region.

The additional 2,000 troops are joining approximately 700 service members that had been deployed in previous rounds, including some to Prince Sultan Air Base, about 80 miles southeast of Riyadh.

1. Trump announces permanent ceasefire in Syria and will release Turkey from sanctions - Washington Examiner

President Trump announced Wednesday that an agreement to a permanent ceasefire has been reached that will suspend Turkish military operations in northern Syria.

A 120-hour ceasefire was agreed to last week when Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Turkey to meet with President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan and discuss the end of military attacks on Kurdish forces in Syria. The temporary ceasefire was meant to give the Kurdish troops time to vacate the region and move away from the Turkish border.

Trump lauded the temporary measure saying, "on behalf of the United States, I want to thank Turkey, I want to thank all of the people that have gotten together and made this happen. This is an incredible outcome." (Read more)

- Father, thank You for this ceasefire and agreement. We pray all people in the region will benefit and can rebuild their communities and lives. We continue to lift up President Trump before Your Throne of Grace, asking that Your grace would be extended to him in this hour of trial. In Your Name, amen.

- I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. (Psalm 116:1-2)

2. Turkey, Russia reach deal for YPG move out of Syria border area - Al-Jazeera

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says a deal has been reached with Russia for Kurdish fighters to withdraw from a Turkish-ruled "safe zone" in northeast Syria within 150 hours, after which Ankara and Moscow will run joint patrols around the area.

Russian military police and Syrian border guards will start removing the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which spearhead the SDF, and their weapons 30km (19 miles) from the border area. Ankara and Moscow, which have backed opposing sides in Syria's long-running war, also reiterated to their commitment to the preservation of the political unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the protection of national security of Turkey.

The Sochi memorandum also said the YPG and their weapons would be removed from Manbij and Tal Rifat, where Syrian government forces moved in after the Kurdish-led fighters struck a deal with Damascus to fend off a Turkish assault. Russia is Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's main military ally. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray for Your protection to cover the Kurdish people and Your provision to sustain them. In cases where their lives are in danger, we call forth Your angelic host to protect them, in Your name, amen.

- "Bless the Lord, you His angels,
Mighty in strength, who perform His word,
Obeying the voice of His word!
Bless the Lord, all you His hosts,
You who serve Him, doing His will."
(Psalm 103:20,21)

3. GOP lawmakers storm closed-door impeachment session - Fox News

House Republicans led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., on Wednesday essentially stormed a closed-door session connected to the impeachment investigation of President Trump, prompting House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff to suspend the proceedings in a remarkable scene.

Because there was no agreement for non-committee members to be present, this "sit-in" created an immediate standoff. Fox News is told that Schiff did not ask the U.S. Capitol Police to arrest or remove Republicans who charged in - but he did leave the room and apparently does not plan to start the interview until the situation is resolved.

Fox News is told about a dozen Republicans were still in the secure facility known as a SCIF as of early afternoon. The Republicans showed no sign of leaving any time soon, with 17 pizzas arriving in the afternoon. Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., also showed up with what he described as "relief supplies" for the GOP members: two large bags from Chick-fil-A. (Read more)

- Father, we pray this assertive action will make this process fair for the Republicans in the House of Representatives, and for President Trump.

- Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty. (Exodus 23:7)

4. State Dept. Used Soros-Linked Media Tracking Tool to Monitor Journalists, Trump Allies - Judicial Watch

The State Department utilized a powerful Facebook-owned social media tracking tool linked to leftist billionaire George Soros to unlawfully monitor prominent U.S. conservative figures, journalists and persons with ties to President Donald Trump, according to an agency source.

The State Department veteran identified Crowdtangle as the tool used to closely watch more than a dozen U.S. citizens, including the president's son, personal attorney and popular television personalities such as Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, among others.

Last week Judicial Watch launched an investigation into the unlawful monitoring, which State Department sources say was conducted by the agency in Ukraine at the request of ousted U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, an Obama appointee. Yovanovitch reportedly ordered monitoring keyed to the following search terms: Biden, Giuliani, Soros and Yovanovitch.

Ordering subordinates to target certain U.S. persons, as sources say Yovanovitch did, using State Department resources would constitute a violation of laws and government regulations. "This is not an obscure rule, everyone in public diplomacy or public affairs knows they can't make lists and monitor U.S. citizens unless there is a major national security reason," a senior State Department official told Judicial Watch last week when the story broke. 5. Durham's probe into possible FBI misconduct expanded based on new evidence - Fox News

U.S. Attorney John Durham's investigation into the origins of the FBI's 2016 Russia probe has expanded based on new evidence uncovered during a recent trip to Rome with Attorney General Bill Barr. The sources said Durham was "very interested" to question former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, an anti-Trump critic who recently dismissed the idea.

A source in the Italian Ministry of Justice told The Daily Beast earlier this month that Barr and Durham were played a taped deposition made by Joseph Mifsud, the professor who allegedly told ex-Trump aide George Papadopoulos that the Russians had "dirt" on Hillary Clinton. Mifsud reportedly was explaining to authorities in the deposition why people would want to harm him, and why he needed police protection. Papadopoulos has suggested he was connected with Mifsud as part of a setup orchestrated by intelligence agencies. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your protection to cover John Durham and his team. We pray each one will pursue truth and justice with complete integrity.

- In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds. (Psalm 45:4)

6. Pence Outlines US Space Vision, Working With 'Freedom-Loving' Nations - Epoch Times

Vice President Mike Pence said that the U.S. Space Force will soon be a reality and positioned it as a key national security priority for safeguarding the rights of the United States and its "freedom-loving" allies in space, among other goals.

Speaking to an international audience at the 70th International Astronautical Congress-a global space advocacy organization-Pence reiterated President Donald Trump's vision for the United States to lead in space once again. "Trump has directed our administration to work with bipartisan leadership in Congress. Soon, we will stand up the sixth branch of our armed forces: the United States Space Force," Pence said.

Trump ordered the creation of the Space Force to strengthen the military's focus on space operations. That includes launching satellites, providing communications, intelligence, missile warnings, and navigation services, as well as counterspace operations. (Read more)

- Father God, You rule over the heavens. We pray these plans to establish a Space Force will maintain peace and freedom for the people of the world.

- The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. (Psalm 103:19)

7. Hawley, Blackburn Propose Moving 90 Percent Of Bureaucracy Jobs Out Of DC - The Federalist

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) have proposed new legislation to move 90 percent of federal agency jobs out of Washington, D.C. The "HIRE" bill aims to move jobs into the heartland and economically-distressed regions throughout the country. The legislation aims to move the following agencies to the following states:

1. Department of Agriculture - Missouri
2. Department of Education - Tennessee
3. Department of Commerce - Pennsylvania
4. Department of Energy - Kentucky 5. Health and Human Services - Indiana
6. Housing and Urban Development - Ohio
7. Department of the Interior - New Mexico
8. Department of Labor - West Virginia
9. Department of Transportation - Michigan
10. Veterans Affairs - South Carolina

"Moving agencies outside of Washington, D.C. both boosts local economies and lowers costs - that's a winning combination. This legislation would enable Americans across the country to have greater access to good jobs," said Blackburn. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray for overwhelming, bipartisan support for the HIRE bill.

- Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced at what God had brought about for his people, because it was done so quickly. (2 Chronicles 29:36)

8. Federal court blocks Trump birth control exemptions - Washington Examiner

A three-judge panel has blocked the Trump administration from letting employers with moral or religious objections opt out of providing coverage that pays for birth control. The 2-1 decision, issued Tuesday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, came in response to a lawsuit filed by 14 state attorneys general who wanted the Obamacare-linked rules set under former President Barack Obama to remain in place.

The mandate about birth control doesn't specifically appear in Obamacare. The law was written to allow the Department of Health and Human Services to decide what type of preventive care health insurance plans should cover without copays, and the Obama administration determined that all forms of birth control should be included, from the pill to intrauterine devices to emergency contraception.

Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, a George H.W. Bush appointee, dissented because a judge in Pennsylvania had already blocked the Trump administration rule from taking effect, which he said rendered the latest action moot. (Read more)

- Father God, we pray every ruling that compels those who love You to do what they believe is wrong will be overturned, in Jesus Name.

- God takes His stand in His own congregation; He judges in the midst of the rulers. (Psalm 82:1)

9. A new round of PG&E power outages could put 500,000 Californians in the dark for days - USA Today

California's largest utility says it could shut off power to 500,000 people this week for two days or longer as wildfires again threaten to bring havoc to northern parts of the state.

The warning addressed residents in 15 counties, mostly in the Sierra foothills and the San Francisco Bay area. It came less than two weeks after gusty winds, high temperatures and parched conditions forced Pacific Gas & Electric to shut off power to 2 million people, many for several days.

The company has given preliminary notification to more than 200,000 homes and businesses impacting several hundred thousand residents. (Read more)

- Father, the situation in California can feel hopeless, but we know You have a Kingdom plan for them - so we ask You to do what seems impossible to us and deliver them from evil.

- Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27)

10. Homeland Security to Collect DNA of Illegal Immigrants at Border - Epoch Times

The Department of Homeland Security is planning to start collecting DNA from illegal immigrants for the FBI's massive database, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said the rule change would "help to save lives and bring criminals to justice." Hundreds of thousands of new entries would likely be made per year, as DNA swabs are taken from illegal immigrants after they cross the border.

Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan said in a July 30 hearing on Capitol Hill that Border Patrol had identified 5,800 fake families since mid-April. "It's very clear, they know you grab a kid, that's your passport in the United States," he said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that this DNA testing will discourage any and all human trafficking . We pray, too, that this procedure will help the authorities to capture all of those who are exploiting others in order to gain access to the United States.

- Then the king gave his ruling: "Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother." (1 Kings 3:27)

How Turkey is storming the gates of prophecy

The region of modern Turkey plays an integral role in end-time prophecy and during this decade it has been relentlessly pursuing it. Turkey long has sought a "buffer zone" with Syria (the area that is occupied by the Kurds) and has aided ISIS in overthrowing the Assad government. In October 2014, the UK Independent pointed out the complex support of Turkey for ISIS, while claiming to be an ally of the US. In September 2015, it was reported that Turkey was supporting ISIS. In May 2016 reports surfaced that Turkey had been aiding and abetting ISIS through many actions from battlefield medical care to turning a blind eye to ISIS training and fundraising activities in Turkey. Now, this support is even further confirmed.

On Sunday, Turkish journalist Can Dundar, who was arrested by the Turkish government in 2015 and sentenced to 20 years because he claimed Turkey was covertly supplying weapons to ISIS, told Kurdistan 24 news while in Washington, DC, that Turkey has used ISIS as an instrument of policy in Syria, and is currently allied with Syrian militia groups that are not easy to distinguish from the ISIS militants themselves. Dundar claimed that Turkey was freeing ISIS terrorists and giving them sanctuary in Turkey. According to Breitbart News, Kurdistan 24 confirmed Dundar's claim by interviewing "female ISIS suspects" in one of the camps menaced by the Turks, who said their husbands and others had fled to Turkey for safe haven.
On July 31, 2017, The Daily Jot reported that Turkey was challenging Iran's control of Iraq and Syria through ISIS and pressure from its allies, including the US and European Union. As you can see, Turkey has been seeking the kind of "green light" to advance on the Syrian buffer zone since the advent of ISIS earlier in this decade. Turkey has been clandestinely supporting ISIS, despite paying lip service to the contrary. Meantime the Kurds, occupying the buffer zone Turkey seeks, have been fighting ISIS. Now, Turkey is emboldened to drive the Kurds out of the Northern border with Syria, or kill them all, which benefits the ISIS terrorists. President Trump's actions aside, these events appear to be relentlessly prophetic.
Gabriel's interpretation of Daniel's vision of "what shall be in the last end" and "for at the time appointed the end shall be" (Daniel 8:19) is clearly an end-time prophecy, which, therefore, could not have been completely fulfilled by Alexander the Great and his generals as is widely taught. These events are yet to occur for the little horn (antichrist) to rise to power. Currently, Iran has control over much of Iraq and Syria. For Ezekiel 38 and Daniel 8 to be fulfilled, Iran must come into alignment by submitting to Turkey's leadership against Israel. Turkey is positioning for its end time role, as these recent events demonstrate. Turkey has stormed the gates of prophecy, bending the will and confounding the wisdom of many nations.

Iraq Appeals to U.N.

Iraq Urges UN To Kick "Unauthorized" US Forces From Country

The Iraqi government's efforts to expel what it increasingly considers an 'unauthorized' American occupation have just escalated dramatically, as Baghdad is now urging the United Nations to expel US troops from sovereign Iraqi territory.

As we noted previously, Baghdad officials rejected a Pentagon plan to relocate some 1,000 US troops now exiting Syria to US bases in western Iraq, saying the additional troops had "no approval to stay".

On Wednesday Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi announced he's taking "all international legal measures" over the entry of U.S. troops from neighboring Syria, again underscoring the Pentagon had no authorization for such a move, and that the troops are "not allowed" to remain in the country, but only "transition" on their way to other US bases in Kuwait and Qatar.
"We have (already) issued an official statement saying that and are taking all international legal measures. We ask the international community and the United Nations to perform their roles in this matter," Abdul Mahdi' said.

He said that any American forces coming from Syria have four weeks to leave Iraq, as reported by the AP.

The firm 'red line' assertion came immediately after the prime minister met with US Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who arrived earlier in the day on an unannounced visit, apparently to negotiate a compromise. Without Iraq's cooperation, the White House's Syria exit strategy and its logistics are in question.

On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Mark Esper in a likely attempt to placate growing Iraqi anger, said, "The aim isn't to stay in Iraq interminably. The aim is to pull our soldiers out and eventually get them back home."

Currently there are more than 5,000 American forces stationed in the country as part of a prior controversial agreement with Baghdad. One senior Pentagon official noted to Reuters this week that the situation remains "fluid and plans could change". . .

Washington's priorities in the country have generally been expressed by defense officials as countering the threat of any resurgent ISIS , and preventing Iranian entrenchment and expansion in the region. (ZeroHedge) Read more.

- Father God, we pray and ask for Your grace to rest with our troops that will be leaving Syria via Iraq. We ask for a smooth transition, in Your Name.

- Lord God, we repent, too, that Iraq feels it must ask the United Nations for assistance in this matter, for that globalist organization does not have the power nor the authority that our sovereign nation does. Forgive them, O Lord, we pray, amen.

- "For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations." (Psalm 22:28)

First Lady visits Capitol Hill

First Lady Melania Trump visits Capitol Hill

This morning, First Lady Melania Trump made her first solo visit to the U.S. Capitol, marking the one year anniversary of the SUPPORT Act, which promotes opioid recovery.

While there, she thanked the legislators who helped make the law into a reality.

"A year ago, you passed and our Administration signed into law the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act . . . Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, or NAS, is an area I have focused on, and this Act provides support to mothers and their infants born with NAS," Mrs. Trump said.

"I have traveled to some of the areas hardest hit by drug abuse, and I have seen the devastating effects that this crisis has on families and children. This is why the SUPPORT Act is so important. It provides the necessary tools to fight this crisis."

With National Drug Take Back Day coming this Saturday, the First Lady also highlighted the importance of safely discarding leftover prescription opioids that can be found in our homes. Left in place, these unused drugs often find their way into our children's hands.

A Special Prayer for President Trump

A Special Prayer for President Trump

"WATCH: Trump Asks HUD Secretary Ben Carson to Open Cabinet Meeting with Prayer"

By Dr. Susan Berry

President Donald Trump asked Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson to offer "grace" at the opening of the cabinet meeting at the White House on Monday.

"We'll have a few questions after grace," the president said, then turned to Carson and added, "If you would, Ben, do the honors."

During his prayer, Carson observed that "separation of church and state means that the church does not dominate the state, and it means the state does not dominate the church."

"Our kind Father in Heaven, we're so thankful for the many blessings that you have bestowed upon us in this country," Carson began, "and we're thankful for the people of courage who have been here before us, who have fought hard for the rights of our country."
And we thank you for President Donald Trump, who also exhibits great courage in face of constant criticism. And we ask that you would give him strength to endure and the wisdom lead, and to recognize you as the sovereigns of the universe with the solution to everything. And the people around the president - the vice president, the cabinet, the advisors - give us all an understanding heart and a compassionate heart. Those are the things that will keep America great.
And help us all to recognize as a nation that separation of church and state means that the church does not dominate the state, and it means the state does not dominate the church. It doesn't mean that they cannot work together to promote godly principles of loving your fellow man, of caring about your neighbor, of developing your God-given talents to the utmost so that you become valuable to the people around you, and having values and principles that govern your life.

"And if we do those things, then we will always be successful," Carson prayed. "And we thank you for hearing our prayer, in your Holy name. Amen."

AMAZING GRACE

"I was blind, but now I see!" (John 9:25)

Lyrics

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we'd first begun.

About the Author:

Words John Newton, 1779

Music: James P. Carrell & David S. Clayton, 1831

About the Hymn:

This is probably the most popular hymn in the English language. Perhaps it is because its words so well describe the author: John Newton was a slave trader before coming to Christ. The American Public Broadcasting System, with narrator Bill Moyers, made a television documentary about Amazing Grace in 1990.

Ironically, the hymn is sung in Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin by the titular Uncle Tom, a slave himself. In addition to Newton's words, Tom sang the final stanza below. Though that stanza appeared in the 1829 Baptist Songster, Uncle Tom's Cabin may be the first time the words "When we've been there ten thousand years" are used as part of Amazing Grace. Wethersfield, Connecticut, where the Baptist Songster was published, is only a couple of miles from Stowe's home town of Hartford, Connecticut. Interestingly, there is also a town named New Britain just outside Hartford.

This hymn was sung at the funeral of American president Ronald Reagan in 2004.

Sings and Wonders:

BIG SPRITES OVER OKLAHOMA

Oklahoma is a good place to see sprites--exotic forms of lightning that leap up from thunderstorms instead of down. On Oct. 21st, Paul Smith of Edmund, OK, photographed a giant batch . . .
"These were some of the largest spanning multi-events I have personally seen, with sometimes five or six sprites sequentially firing along the line of the storm for what must have been more than one hundred miles," says Smith. "It was a very strong and fast moving cold front with strong winds, large hail, tornadoes--perfect conditions for sprites."

Oklahoma is the epicenter of a region that we call "Sprite Alley," a corridor stretching across the US Great Plains where intense thunderstorms produce lots of sprites. Increasing levels of cosmic rays in the atmosphere may be boosting the phenomenon, because cosmic rays are known to help trigger lightning.

"I have been recording sprites since the summer of 2017 when I accidentally caught a few during the Perseid meteor shower," says Smith. "I now have hundreds of events on camera and I am out almost every night there are storms in my vicinity."

"Large frontal storm systems like the one we experienced on Oct. 21st are fairly typical in the southern plains during Fall, and I hope for more captures over the coming weeks," he adds. (Spaceweather.com) Read more.

The Good News Corner

Globally, Christianity is Booming, and Atheism is Declining, According to Report

However, in the US, just the opposite seems to be happening. A recent study by Pew Research found that in America "the percentage of American adults who call themselves Christian has declined the past decade, from 77 percent to 65 percent, while the percentage of US adults who identify as atheist, agnostic ... has risen from 17 percent to 26 percent in that same span."
-The headlines might declare that Christianity is declining in the United States, but new research shows it's growing faster than the population around the world-and atheism and agnosticism are on a gradual decline.

The 2019 Status of Global Christianity report shows there were 2.5 billion Christians in the world as of mid-2019-a major increase from the 1.98 billion Christians in 2000 and more than double the number of Christians (1.2 billion) in 1970.

Christianity is growing worldwide at a rate of 1.27 percent each year and outpacing population growth (1.20 percent)-and is booming in Africa (2.37 percent), Asia (2.79 percent) and Latin America (2.29 percent). (Breaking Christian News) Read more.

About CHPP

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].
Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
