The Daily Brief

1. Suicide bomber kills 3 at U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey - NBC News

A suicide bomber blew himself up at an entrance to the U.S. Embassy compound in Ankara on Friday, killing at least three people, Turkish police sources said. The bomber got to the first X-ray machine leading to the visa section, the sources added. U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardione told reporters that a guard at the gate was killed and a Turkish citizen was wounded in the blast, which happened at 1:15 p.m. local time (6:15 a.m. ET), The Associated Press reported.

~Abba, we are thankful that this blast was not any worse, but we do grieve for those who were killed. We ask that You would comfort the families of those who lost their lives. We also ask, Lord, that better security measures would be taken to protect our embassies worldwide, and our people there. We ask that our embassies would be as "fortified" cities, where Americans can come for safety in these lands, in Yeshua's Name we pray. Amen.

-"But we will arm ourselves for battle and go ahead until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land." (Numbers 32:17)

2. Mexico Rescue Workers Search for Survivors After Pemex Blast Kills 32 - Yahoo

Emergency services worked into the early hours of Friday to find people trapped in rubble under state oil company Pemex's headquarters in Mexico City after an explosion that killed at least 32 people and injured more than 100.

~Father, we pray for our neighbors to the south, that You would comfort them in the loss of these 32 people killed in this explosion in Mexico City. We ask that You would enable the rescuers to find more people trapped in the rubble, and free them. We ask that no more lives be lost, and that You would heal the injured. We pray for those investigators who will endeavor to find the cause of this disaster, and that steps would be taken to avoid any similar occurrences in the future. In Your great Name, we pray.

- "He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those with discernment. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what lies in the darkness; and light dwells with Him."(Daniel 2:22)

3. Obama blinks on contraception mandate - Washington Times

The Obama administration on Friday announced it is rolling out a way for religious institutions to distance themselves from a mandate in the president's health care law that requires insurance plans to cover contraception. The Department of Health and Human Services is issuing rules that explain how religious nonprofits such as hospitals and universities that object to the mandate can obtain an accommodation "that provides their enrollees separate contraceptive coverage, and with no co-pays, but at no cost to the religious organization."

It is unclear if the new rules will placate the dozens of religious nonprofits and corporate owners that have filed lawsuits to protest the mandate contained in Mr. Obama's sweeping new health care law, which passed in 2010 and was largely upheld by the Supreme Court last June. The plaintiffs say the use of preventive contraception or "morning-after" pills is at odds with their religious beliefs.

~Abba, Father, we thank You that this administration is finally taking seriously the concerns of "religious non-profits" who do not wish to supply insurance coverage for contraception - including abortion - for their employees. We pray, Lord, that You would give wisdom to both the "framers" of this exclusion, and the non-profits to work together on this. We pray that an equitable solution will be found, where the non-profits and Christian companies would not have to supply these services, which violate their convictions, and Your Word. We thank You for intervening in this situation. Amen.

- "So it is not the will of your Father, Who is in Heaven, that one of these little ones should perish." (Matthew 18:14)

4. Obama's Jobs Council Shutting Down Thursday - Yahoo News

President Barack Obama will let his jobs council expire this week without renewing its charter, winding down one source of input from the business community even as unemployment remains stubbornly high. ..more than 12 million people in the U.S. are out of work. The unemployment rate has improved to 7.8 percent, but both parties agree that's still too high.

~Precious Lord, we are not sure if this administration has paid any attention to any of the input from the Jobs Council, as the unemployment rate is still quite high. We do pray, again, for wisdom to be given to our President, and all those involved in decisions regarding our unemployment problem and our sluggish economy. With the expiration of the tax break last month, and the additional requirements of healthcare, it seems as though the problem is worsening. Again, we pray, for wisdom for the people, as this added pressure requires more income. We look to You for Your "God- ideas" to help us with our own individual finances, and we thank You for that wisdom.

- "Be strong, be bold, don't be afraid or frightened of them, for ADONAI your God is going with you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. With ADONAI on my side, I fear nothing___what can human beings do to me?" (Deuteronomy 18:6;Psalm 118:6)

5.IRS: Cheapest Obamacare Plan Will Be $20,000 Per Family - CNS News

In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year. Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.

~Jehovah Jireh, You are our Provider, and our Healer, and we ask that You would supply the needed funds to "pay Caesar what belongs to Caesar". If this is the least expensive of all the choices of healthcare plans we are being forced to get, it surely will be a "burden" on the average family. Lord, You know unemployment is high, and the economy is poor, and it seems that more debt is being forced upon us. We ask that You would enable us to pay for whatever is required of us. We ask that more people will enter the workforce, and that our economy will recover, for the sake of Your people. Amen.

- "Show me a coin. Whose image and name are on it? They said, "Caesar's". Jesus said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and give to God the things that are God's."I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread. All day long they are merciful and deal graciously; they lend, and their offspring are blessed." (Luke 20:24,25;Psalm 37:25,26)

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer." (Psalm 4:1)

1.Christians Fleeing Syria as Crisis Reaches 'Unprecedented Levels of Horror'

As the civil war in Syria has reached "unprecedented levels of horror," according to the U.N., Christians are being forced to flee their homes as avoiding the violent conflict has become less of an option.

"It's a fight to the death which by definition involves killing. No one will win but those who fought from the start will create a desert and then call it victory," Sky News said of the war raging between army forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad and rebels bent on taking down what they say is a tyrannical regime.

2. Christians in India Asking for Greater Protection

Mumbai (AsiaNews) - There is great concern among the Christian community in Karnataka for the forthcoming meeting of the Rashtriya Sawayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu ultranationalist group chiefly responsible for violence towards ethnic and religious minorities in India. The convention will be held in Mangalore on 3rd February and Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), has asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the chief minister of the state "to ensure special protection for Christians: their lives, their property and freedom of worship, in public and in private. "

Since 2008, Karnataka has been governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a party close to ultra-nationalist Hindu groups such as the RSS, which are often behind violence and persecution against the Christian minority. In three months the people are due to vote to elect a new government, and according to Sajan George "the BJP wants to use the conference to consolidate its electoral base and reassert its nationalist identity."

3.Christian given prison sentence for proselytism in Algeria

TIZI OUZOU, Algeria (Morning Star News) - The attorney for a Christian shocked to learn that he had been convicted of pressuring a Muslim to leave Islam said after an appeals hearing on Wednesday (Jan. 23) that the verdict was utterly unfounded.

Mohamed Ibaouene, 36, learned on Dec. 11 that he had been convicted in absentia on July 4, 2012 by a court in Tigzirt, sentenced to one year in prison and fined 50,000 dinars (US$635). His appeal hearing this week took place in Tindouf, where he held a position with an international business concern, and where a machine operator approached him to ask if he was a Christian.

The machine operator, a hard-line Muslim identified only as Abedlkrim M., later accused Ibaouene of pressuring him to renounce Islam under Algeria's controversial Law 06/03, which restricts religious practice of non-Muslims.
