The Daily Brief

1. 'SEA OF FIRE': North Korea Vows Nuclear First-Strike Against US - Fox News

North Korea vows to launch a first-strike nuclear attack against US saying Washington will be 'engulfed in a sea of fire,' as UN security council approves new sanctions against the country for recent nuclear test.

- Lord, we once again ask that You intervene against the leadership of North Korea and silence their continual posturing. We take authority over the rulers of darkness that constantly vocalize threats against the west, and command all plans of our enemies to fail.

- "He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers then out of the hand of the wicked." [Psalm 97:10b]

2. Kenyan Election Contender Asks That Vote Count Be Halted - NY Times

Election-related tensions rose steadily on Thursday after the party of Raila Odinga, the prime minister, who has been trailing in the polls, said that preliminary election results had been "doctored" and the counting process needed to be stopped.

- Father, as tensions rise and the people of Kenya await the results that are due on Friday or Saturday, we pray that Your peace will descend over their nation. We bind the tribal conflicts and hatred and command the demonic powers to be dispersed from these elections. We pray for the moving of Your Holy Spirit among the people.

  - "The God of my strength, in Him I will trust . . . My Savior, You save me from violence." [2 Samuel 22:3a,c]

3. President Woos GOP to Seek Broad Deal - Wall Street Journal

President Barack Obama stepped up his wooing of rank-and-file Republican lawmakers Wednesday, hosting a dozen senators at a dinner at a Washington restaurant and setting a visit to the Capitol in hopes of reigniting talks on a broad budget deal.

- Lord as our leaders met together for compromise, we ask for Your mercy over America. The depths of debt and spending in our government have reached epidemic proportions, and our nation needs Your help. Even Conservative leaders have been pressured to set aside their values in favor of foolish actions.

  - "Stand therefore, having girded your wait with truth . . ." [Eph 6:14]

4. House OKs funding to run federal government - Washington Times

With deadline fatigue setting in, a bipartisan House voted Wednesday to fund the federal government through the end of the fiscal year, which would head off the potential for a government shutdown later this month.

- Lord we are happy that something has happened to prevent a government shutdown, but are still grieved that true answers have not been agreed upon for the future of the American economy.  We pray that in the months ahead we will find Your wisdom and leadings.

- "Make me to understand the way of Your precepts." [Psalm 119:27a]

5. Arkansas adopts US's most restrictive abortion law - AP

Arkansas lawmakers overrode a veto Wednesday and gave the state the most restrictive abortion law in the country -- a near-ban on the procedure from the 12th week of pregnancy onward that is certain to end up in court.

- Thank You, Lord, for this state's action against abortion. We pray that a love of life and a love of You will flow across all states, leading to the removal of Roe v Wade.

- "You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies." [Psalm 119:98]

6. UN: Colo., Wash. legal pot violates drug treaties - Seattle Times

A United Nations-based drug agency urged the United States government on Tuesday to challenge the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado and Washington, saying the state laws violate international drug treaties.

- Lord while this may, on the surface, look like a good follow-up to the travesty of legalizing marijuana for recreational use, we also stand against any interference by the United Nations in the affairs of America. We pray that the treaties of the UN will have no legal grounds here, and that our own Supreme Court will settle this issue on drugs.

- "They will call upon My Name, and I will answer them." [Zechariah 13:9c]

7. Mid-Atlantic storm leaves 250,000 without power - Washington Times

A winter storm marched into the Mid-Atlantic region Wednesday, dumping nearly two feet of snow in some places and knocking out power to about 250,000 homes and businesses.

- Lord we pray for Your comfort and help for those in the midst of these heavy storms. Use this time, Father, to touch the lives of the people for Your Kingdom.

- "And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by." [Psalm 57:1c]

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!" (Isaiah 52:7)

1. Israel mobilizes as millions of locust descend - Jerusalem Post

Agriculture Ministry workers armed with pesticides went into action at first light Wednesday morning, distributing both aerial and ground sprays in the area where millions of locusts descended upon southern Israel from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula the day before.

2. To renew peace talks, Palestinians want Israeli concessions - Israel Hayom

The Palestinian Authority is seeking a number of confidence-building measures from Israel before the restart of peace negotiations. Among the measures are the release of Palestinian prisoners arrested before 1994, the provision of ammunition to Palestinian security forces and the removal of checkpoints.

3. Shin Bet: Significant rise in Palestinian attacks - Jerusalem Post

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) released a report Tuesday documenting a significant rise in Palestinian attacks in the West Bank and east Jerusalem in February.

The Persecuted Church

Today's Focus: The Persecuted Church

"Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence. I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living." (Psalm 27:12,13)

1. Mass Arrest and Torture of Christians in Libya - the algemeiner

Last week's news of four Christian missionaries in Libya placed under arrest, possibly facing the death penalty for "proselytizing," is apparently the tip of the iceberg. Yesterday, Arabic media reported that over 100 Christian Copts from Egypt, who appear to have been living and working in Libya, were recently arrested in Ben Ghazi-also on the accusation, or pretext, of being "Christian missionaries."

2. Christians Boys Convicted of Desecrating Quran in Egypt - Morning Star News

A court in Egypt has quietly found two Coptic Christian boys guilty of "showing contempt for Islam" but only remanded them to the custody of their parents, an attorney for one of the children said.

In a case of alleged blasphemy that inflamed passions in provincial Egypt, a judge in Beni Suef, 62 miles south of Cairo, ruled the two boys guilty of desecrating pages of the Koran in spite of conflicting statements by the accuser and doubts about the functionally illiterate boys' capacity to identify Koranic verses, attorney Karam Ghoubrial said.

3. Is Religious Freedom Crumbling in America? - Instant Analysis

A prominent pro-family group is warning that unless the GOP leadership on Capitol Hill gets behind a proposal designed to stop the Obama administration's assault on First Amendment rights, that "firewall of protection" around religious freedom could very well crumble beyond repair.

The Family Research Council and other faith-based groups spoke out yesterday for conscience protections for religious business owners and individuals from the federal government's mandate on abortion-causing drugs, sterilizations, and contraceptives.

Wednesday in the nation's capital, three House Republicans introduced legislation they say will halt the Obama administration's "assault" on religious freedom. The Health Care Conscience Rights Act (HCCRA) (H.R. 940), they say, offers a "reprieve" from ongoing violations of Americans' First Amendment rights - including full exemption from the controversial HHS "birth-control mandate" as well as conscience protection for individuals and healthcare entities that refuse to provide, pay for, or refer patients to abortion providers because of their deeply-held, reasoned beliefs.

The Good News Corner

The Good News Corner:

SEA OF GALILEE RISING

Editor's Note: This article makes reference to red and black measurement lines in the Sea of Galilee. The red line - which is 213 meters below sea level - is the line below which it is not recommended to draw water. The black line is 215 meters below sea level and at that point water cannot be drawn anymore or permanent damage will be caused to the water source.

Israeli officials now believe that the region will receive more rain than expected this winter, bringing the Sea of Galilee back up to a level it has not been at in over 10 years. Speaking to Israel's Ma'ariv newspaper, Israel Water Authority official Dr. Amir Givati noted that due to abundant rainfall this winter, the Sea of Galilee already began to rise in late October, more than a month before is typically starts to rise in the annual rain cycle. "Our estimate at the beginning of the winter was that we were facing an average winter," said Givati. "Today we believe that it will be more than that, at least in the north of the country.

Givati explained that even if precipitation levels were only "average" this winter, the Sea of Galilee would still rise to 210.8 meters below sea level, which is just two meters below its "red line." That is a major increase following seven years of drought, when the Sea of Galilee repeatedly flirted with its "black line." The rise in the lake's water level comes primarily from the northern part of the Jordan River and the streams that run down from the Golan Heights, all of which started flowing much earlier than usual. Givati said "Streams like Ayun and Sa'ar usually begin to run only in the spring, but this year we're already seeing them gushing." (Source: Israel Today)

- Thank you, Abba Father, for this wonderful news as to the water level in the Sea of Galilee. After 7 years of serious drought this is a special blessing. We raise up praise to You Lord, Hallelujah, Amen and Amen!!

- "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever." (Psalm 136:1)

About CHPP

ABOUT CAPITOL HILL PRAYER PARTNERS

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]

Friends may participate by receiving our daily prayer alerts. You may contact us at chpp@patriot.net for more information. CHPP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ministry. Thank you and God bless you!
