CALLING FOR A DAY OF PRAYER, FASTING
AND REPENTANCE: Sunday, December 16, 2012

" . . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

"Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me." (Psalms 50:15)

Introduction

Dear Friends,

Today, we are all still reeling from yesterday's news out of Connecticut, and struggling to begin to come to terms not only with what has happened, but also why.

And we continue to uphold and surround the twenty parents who, this morning, are grieving the loss of their children, who were so suddenly and so tragically taken from their arms yesterday morning. And we, too, "Grieve with those who grieve . . ."
And yes, we ask . . . why, God?
May each parent have one who simply comes alongside them, to hold and comfort them through their grief.
Why, God?

Please permit us the liberty to share a few thoughts with you, as we, too, ask this question with you: why, God? Certainly, our thoughts may not be the Lord's "final word" on the journey he has set us upon; but perhaps these comments will serve to point each of us in His direction in this hour.

In His Grace,

A Message from CHPP

Time to Hit the "Re-set" Button

by Sara Ballenger

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This morning as I awoke, the tragedy of yesterday began flooding my mind.

Immediately, I heard the Lord say:

"I have now hit the 'reset button' for your nation."

Just as you re-set the timer on a clock, for example, to START OVER, this has now happened in our country. We have hit bottom; it is time to repent, go back to basics, and change our ways.

I also had a sense that we have reached a RED LINE before the Throne of God and that, if we do not repent, calamity will surely lie ahead.

Then I heard the Lord say:

"Your people must know that the answers they now seek will not come from the seizing of your guns, but from seizing my Holy Spirit through repentance. As the nation falls on its face before Me in humble, true repentance, I shall bring the answers they seek and I shall heal their land."

Let us intercede in alignment with that word today:

Moving together, with Shields locked in place, let us build a FIREWALL of protection around the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution:
the right to bear arms.

And moving together, let us call for a day of repentance, prayer and fasting . . . that we may again rest upon the rock of our Salvation as a nation and as a people, seeking His ways -- and His ways only -- in all we think, say and do.

CAPITOL HILL PRAYER PARTNERS IS DECLARING SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16, AS A DAY OF PRAYER, FASTING AND REPENTANCE FOR OUR NATION.

As we do so, and as we make REPENTANCE a LIFESTYLE (putting Him first in all things), let us also trust GOD with His Word of promise. It is written:

" . . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

A Message from NDP/Northeast Region

24 hours later --- Pray for Breakthrough --

This morning I awoke at 8:23am, less than 24 hours after tragedy in our state. There is no turning back the clock for the parents and families of the victims of yesterday's horrific tragedy. Agree with me in prayer for comfort and counsel for remaining family members. Pray for first responders and media. Pray that hearts are not hardened, and necks are not stiffened in these losses, but that people will cry out to the God who "draws near to the broken-hearted." When we are completely without resources, God does the actions: He draws near to the broken-hearted.

This morning's news continues to provide helicopter videos of the school and topical surveys of the surrounding area. Additionally, there are stories and views of the township, with multiple hand-made signs saying "Please pray". Prayer vigils last night were overwhelming. Everyone is praying and asking for prayer. "Prayer" is an acceptable word this morning, in media, in government, at all levels. The visual comparison between pictures is so clear to me: The only place where prayers cannot be freely spoken is in the classroom, in schools.

What have we done . . .? We need prayer in school. We need to acknowledge God in our schools.

Intellectualism will never fill the void of a great loss. This is something only God can do.

Pray for repentance in a nation which has banned prayer from schools. Pray for turning back to God, and a reversal of those laws denying God. Pray for God's revelation and strategic understanding. Pray. Pray. Pray.

"The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit." (Ps 34:18)

"He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." (Heb. 10:23-25)

Two Closing Prayers

Two Closing Prayers

"The Bible tells us the human heart is 'wicked' and 'who can know it?'" he said. "My heart aches for the victims, their families and the entire community.

"One thing we can be absolutely sure of is that God loves each one of the victims and all those who are suffering right now as a result of this vicious act."

"My hope and prayer is that our entire nation will embrace the community of Newtown with our love and cover them with our prayers, asking for God's perfect comfort and peace in the midst of this dark hour," he said.

-- Franklin Graham

"At times like this we need perspective. An eternal perspective. We need to remember this life on earth is not all there is. There is an afterlife and there earthly wrongs are righted. There is a final judgment for this man and others like him that commit these heinous crimes and they will have to face God.

"There is also great safety for those beautiful children who I believe are all in Heaven right now resting in the arms of Jesus. No harm will come to them again. Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'"

-- Evangelist Greg Laurie
