The Daily Brief - Tuesday, February 8, 2011

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:16)

The Daily Brief

1. Google Executive Helped Spark Egypt Revolt - NewsMax

The young Google Inc. marketing manager detained by Egyptian, Wael Ghonim, for 12 days said Monday he was behind the Facebook page that helped spark what he called "the revolution of the youth of the Internet." A U.S.-based human rights group said nearly 300 people have died in two weeks of clashes. The protesters have already brought the most sweeping changes since President Hosni Mubarak took power 30 years ago, but they are keeping up the pressure in hopes of achieving their ultimate goal of ousting Mubarak.

The unmasking of Ghonim as the previously unknown administrator of the Facebook page that started the protests could give the crowds someone to look to for inspiration to press on. "This is the revolution of the youth of the Internet and now the revolution of all Egyptians," he said, adding that he was taken aback when the security forces holding him branded him a traitor. He looked exhausted and said he had been unable to sleep for 48 hours, but not because he was being mistreated.

• Lord, we pray for the youth of Egypt and the Middle Eastern nations who are so gullible and easily swayed. This man Ghonim is a supporter of Mohammed ElBaradei who is anti-Israel and anti-America and is quickly becoming the possible new leader of Egypt. Reveal the truth to everyone if there is collusion here. We pray for peace in the Middle East, and ask for leadership that supports America and Israel.

He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. (1 John 3:8 NIV)

2. Dirty-bomb Detection System Never Purchased - WND

In 2005, The Department of Homeland Security's Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, or DNDO was supposed to supply the cargo advanced automated radiography system, or CAARS, to ports. But the plan to acquire the system eventually was canceled. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP"made it clear" to DNDO that the equipment did not fit in the primary inspection lanes and "would slow down the flow of commerce through these lanes and cause significant delays."

Therefore, in the interest of speed, CBP apparently scrapped plans to acquire the advanced equipment needed to detect any nuclear smuggling. Part of the explanation was that the development of the CAARS algorithms, or software which is a key component of the machines, had not been sufficient to identify shielded nuclear materials automatically.

• Heavenly Father, we pray that you will remove these incompetent people from leadership and authority. Give us leaders who understand the threats and who have your wisdom to set up our defenses. Let them be sharply vigilant and our enemies incompetent.

They shall be like mighty men, Who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle. They shall fight because the Lord is with them, and the riders on horses shall be put to shame. (Zechariah 10:5)

3. Republicans ask Court to Toss Climate Case - Politico

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.), his energy lieutenant Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.) and Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) submitted an amicus brief Monday urging the judges to reverse a lower court ruling that allowed states and environmental groups to move ahead with a public "nuisance" lawsuit seeking to force the utilities to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. The lawmakers urged the judges to reverse a lower court ruling that allowed states and environmental groups to move ahead with a public "nuisance" lawsuit seeking to force the utilities to cut their greenhouse gas emissions.

"Courts are not equipped to make judgments about the appropriate emissions standards for utilities located throughout the country," the lawmakers wrote. "Judicial establishment of such standards would violate decades of Supreme Court precedent and unconstitutionally interfere with Congressional and Executive branch efforts to address climate change-related matters."

• Lord, we pray for all the offices of our government to be filled with godly, just people. We pray that all the courts will not overreach in their decisions. We pray they will discern wisely and give us wise interpretations that align with our Constitution.

"You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment. (Deuteronomy 16:18)

4. Homeowners Face 'New Normal' in Housing Bust - USA Today

Underwater, with few options. The double whammy of the recession and the real estate crash has forced changes in how consumers spend, plan for their futures and view their neighbors. Businesses also have suffered, because homeowners have less equity in their homes or none at all. Overlaying everything is a local economy in which one of five workers is jobless, in part because of the collapse of the area's once-fast-growing home construction industry.

Little relief is expected anytime soon here, despite signs of a strengthening U.S. economy. Nationwide, home prices are down 30% from their 2006 peak. Moody's Analytics economist Celia Chen says national home prices will regain that ground by 2021.

• Lord, we pray that these newly elected conservative leaders will be sharp and focused. We pray they will have plans that will turn the economy around quicker than is expected. Let the people be pleased and recognize those who are truly working hard to reverse adverse conditions.

Though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction . . . your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. (Isaiah 30:20, 21)

5. 2,000 Pages of Regulations That Business Hates - CBS

Darrell Issa (R-CA), the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee, released nearly 2,000 pages of documents today from businesses that largely lay out the government regulations they feel get in the way of their industry's growth and ability to hire workers. Industry representatives outlined regulatory impediments to growing businesses and hiring workers to get that nine percent unemployment rate down.

Elijah Cummings (D-MD), the Top Democrat on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said that not all regulations are bad. "There must be a reasonable balance between job creation, which we all support, and regulatory measures that provide core protections to the American people," said Cummings.

• Lord, it is obvious that this administration does not like nor understand how to help businesses to succeed. Let the conservative leaders streamline the plans and incorporate rules that will allow businesses to begin to quickly grow again. Give them great wisdom.

Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. (Proverbs 6:6, 8)

6. Obama Budget Proposes Broader Unemployment Taxes - Wall Street Journal

Obama's budget proposal is expected to give states a way to collect more payroll taxes from businesses, in an effort to replenish the unemployment-insurance program. The plan could cause controversy at a time when the administration is seeking to mend fences with corporate America. The proposal would aim to restock strained state unemployment-insurance trust funds by raising the amount of wages on which companies must pay unemployment taxes to $15,000, more than double the $7,000 in place since 1983 Any proposal would need congressional approval.

To avoid hitting businesses with a tax increase during the economic recovery, the proposal would delay the new rules until 2014. The plan is expected to be included in Obama's budget proposal for fiscal 2012, to be released Monday. Obama delivered a speech on Monday to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, trying to repair frayed relations with business and offering areas of possible cooperation. Obama has promised business an effort to simplify the corporate tax code while lowering the corporate tax rate. Pushing for higher unemployment taxes could reignite tensions.

• Lord, we do not need more taxes; we need our government to cut unnecessary spending. Make it clear to them where the wasteful spending is going. Block them from cutting our defense budget. Give the leaders a vision of what they need to do.

Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keeps the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18) As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly. (Proverbs 26:11)

7. Egyptian Journalist: U.S. is Next Target - WND

Outlines plan to 'transform' America into Islamic state. Shortly before massive riots backed by the Muslim Brotherhood broke out in Egypt, journalist 'Ata Abd Al-Aal told his interviewer in a video on the nation's Al-Rahma TV an outlined plan for increasing Muslim influence over America, boldly declaring, "The U.S. will be transformed into an Islamic republic." The journalist explained a three-step plan for increasing Islam's influence on the U.S. The first step is through conversion:

"The rate of converts to Islam in the U.S. is very high . . . rising on a daily basis," Abd Al-Aal insisted. "These converts adhere to Islam with total conviction." The second step is to turn those converts into "preachers" who "convince others to convert to Islam." The third step is to reverse many Muslim's avoidance of ballot box and instead encourage those faithful to Allah to take up the vote:

• Heavenly Father, we are being attacked on all sides by people who hate our nation and our support of Israel. We believe that what the evil one meant for harm, you will turn to good. Turn those who want to harm us from darkness to light, and let them be your most fervent, faithful believers.

They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods . . . . They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear. (Deuteronomy 32:16,17)

Dark leadership and the light of prophetic truth

Many people do not understand why the American government would support the inclusion of the terrorist-sponsoring Muslim Brotherhood organization in the forming of a new government in Egypt. If America has any say with Egypt whatsoever, why would America's leadership allow the power of such a group to grow in the vacuum of a revolution? Can not the president, the secretary of state, the diplomatic core and others see the dangers in promoting terrorists from their experience of the past and the history of Iran, Iraq, the Palestinian Authority, and so on? The answer can be clearly found in the Bible and it is why these dangers are so obviously apparent to those who know their scriptures.

2 Corinthians 4:2-4 says, "[We]...have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." In Christ, there is truth. And in the truth, the mysteries of the world are revealed. But if people do not know the truth, it is hid from them by the god of this world--who is satan.

The Founding Fathers of the United States believed that for a Constitutional Republic to survive (not a democracy, mind you) only the moral and religious could be elected to office. On October 11, 1798, John Adams wrote: "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Jay, the first Supreme Court Chief Justice, wrote in October of 1816, "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." It is from these underpinnings that the American people have become so distant that our leaders reflect our ignorance.

James 1:23-25 characterizes the condition of "We the people": "For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass (mirror): For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was. But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." You see, Americans have been brainwashed into believing the separation of church and state argument. But we see in the issues that matter most, the lack of Truth in our leaders leads us to disaster. The answer is two-fold: We must preach the Word and only the Word, and we must only elect those who follow it.

Cairo And The Constitution

Watching the continued chaos in Cairo, Egypt, I am again reminded of the greatness of this country, where transitions of power occur regularly and peacefully. I think there is a lesson for us to take to heart: When a society ventures down the road of not having a Constitution, or if that society fails to take its Constitution and the rule of law seriously, it ends up like Cairo.
