The Daily Brief - Tuesday, September 21, 2010

" . . . he that shall endure unto the end, he shall be saved." (Mark 13:13)

RECOMMENDED READING:

"America's First Martyrs," by Sara Ballenger.

This book tells the moving story of the martyrdom of over 350 French Huguenots who sailed to our land in 1564, seeking religious freedom. After an initially successful attempt at colonization in northeastern Florida, almost all died for their faith when a Spanish fleet of conquistadors put them to the sword.

"America's First Martyrs" is being released this week, in remembrance of their sacrifice, 445 years ago (September 20, 1565).

"And they overcame them through the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto death." (Rev. 12:11)

The Daily Brief

1. Republicans Block Senate Action on Defense Bill for Now - Congressional Quarterly

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is Upheld; Federally - Funded Abortions in Military Hospitals Blocked

Senate Republicans united Tuesday to block consideration of the fiscal 2011 defense authorization bill for now, after Majority Leader Harry Reid rejected their offer to limit initial debate to strictly defense-related amendments.

- We join a great chorus of praise tonight, thanking the Lord for moving on the hearts of these members, so that our long-standing policy, DADT, will yet stand. Continue in prayer, however, as there is yet a chance that this issue will be raised again during the anticipated lame-duck session of Congress later this fall. Praise the Lord!

- "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord; praise ye the Lord." (Psalm 150:6)

2. House May Adjourn by End of Week - Politico

A House leadership aide said they are working with the Senate to pass the spending measure, known as a continuing resolution, "as soon as possible, so we'll see if Republicans expose how extreme they are to the American people by standing in the way (of the measure) and risking shutting down the government."

"If Democrats get out of town and send the message that they are prepared to raise taxes on small business people, family farms and investors, they do so at their own peril," said Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.). "It would be the latest signal that they haven't got a clue when it comes to creating jobs and getting Americans back to work."

• Lord, we pray the current officials will not implement any bills that go against our citizens, businesses, defense, and our nation in any way. Let people truly reject their agendas with their votes.

"The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. (Deuteronomy 28:7)

3. Fed Mulls Trillion-Dollar Policy Question - CNBC

How much of a boost to the U.S. recovery could another trillion dollars or two buy? That's a tricky question for the Federal Reserve when it meets Tuesday to debate what would warrant pumping more money into the financial system. An incremental drop in long-term yields may not be enough to force banks to stop hoarding safe-haven Treasuries and make loans to businesses instead, some analysts warn. Some policymakers worry that more easing could fuel market imbalances or sow the seeds of sky-high inflation ahead.

• Father God, we pray for astute, godly business people to make the decisions on spending. We pray they will have your wisdom to make the right decisions so that inflation and an imbalance on our economy will not happen.

Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. (Isaiah 55:2)

4. Obama, Facing Tough Questions, Says Times Still Hard - ABC News

Obama on Monday said times were still tough for many Americans, as he defended his policies during aggressive questioning after the worst U.S. recession since the 1930s was declared over. His first questioner wasted no time in laying out her gripes with the Obama administration. Obama stuck to his guns, arguing the measures he had undertaken since taking office in January 2009 were slowly pulling the country back to health.

But, the pace of recovery since then has remained largely below the level needed to quickly replace the millions of jobs lost in the recession, and recent economic indicators signal growth has softened again in the past couple of months.

• Lord, we thank you for opening the eyes of the supporters of Obama and this administration. We pray the veil over their minds will be lifted and they will totally reject the people who have done so much harm to our nation with their agenda.

"My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray; They have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; They have forgotten their resting place." (Jeremiah 50:6)

5. House Republicans to Unveil Campaign Blueprint This Week - CNN

House Republicans plan to unveil what amounts to a campaign blueprint on Thursday in suburban Virginia, GOP sources have told CNN. A senior GOP leadership aide working on the project told CNN that it will focus mostly on economic priorities like creating jobs and reducing spending. Themes covered in the agenda also include health care, national security and reform of Congress itself, according to the senior GOP aide.

"No matter how (Republicans) package it, Americans know the real Republican agenda," Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for Pelosi, told CNN. "Republicans want to privatize Social Security, ship American jobs overseas and give tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. Democrats will protect Social Security, give tax cuts to the middle class and 'Make it in America.'"

• Lord, we pray for this election to be a total rejection of the liberal agenda that the officials have instigated these last years since 2006 election. Let truth be known and people see when our downfall began.

And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it - lest you even be found to fight against God." (Acts 5:38-39)

6. The Electronic Pearl Harbor - Frontpage Mag

Presages about the defeat or even the destruction of the U.S. by terrorists and rogue leaders are usually dismissed as bombastic rhetoric or self-induced illusions. The West's enemies, however, are working towards the means to make their prophecies come true. Electro-Magnetic Pulse attacks with nuclear weapons detonated at high altitude and cyber warfare can enable ostensibly weak adversaries to deliver a crippling blow far greater than 9/11. However, detonating a nuclear weapon at high-altitude can do much greater damage.

The explosion at a high-altitude sets off what is called an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) that can fry all electronic devices for hundreds or thousands of miles depending upon where it happens. "I'd have to say that 70 to 90 percent of the population would not be sustainable after this kind of attack," Dr. William Graham, the former science advisor to President Reagan, concluded.

• Heavenly Father, we have no one but you to defend us. We stand on your promises that you will hear us - if we call out to you. Cause the fear of God to come upon our enemies and the enemies of Israel. Destroy them before they obtain or build weapons of mass destruction.

And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. (Joshua 2:11)

7. Sen. DeMint: 'It's Going to Take a Few Years' to Repeal ObamaCare - CNS News

"It's going take a few years" to repeal the health-care reform bill, DeMint told CNSNews.com. "What we can do after this election is delay the funding and implementation of the bill and then get a [real and qualified] president in 2012 who understands this is going to ruin medicine and bankrupt our country."

"Paul Ryan's roadmap to the future is the only comprehensive legislation now that fixes our tax code, saves Social Security and Medicare and fixes our health care system and begins to cut spending over a long period of time," DeMint said.

• Father, you are the Lord of time and we pray this reversal of the liberal agenda will not take long. But, give us godly leaders who are passionate about reversing quickly all that has been done. Restore our nation to much more than we had before.

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 28:2)

8. House Democrats Pass Bill to Grill School Children about Sexual Preference - Human Events

At the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing last Thursday, Democrats passed a bill to require federal health officials to question anyone seeking services from Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) community health centers or other programs about their sexual orientation and "gender identity." Introduced by Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), H.R. 6109 requires HHS to obtain, retain and analyze sexual identity information from patients who seek healthcare, including children.

According to Baldwin, the current "lack of cultural competency" among federal officials means that "we are left with gaping holes in our knowledge on LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) policy" resulting in "significant health disparities." Baldwin is the first openly-declared lesbian elected to Congress.

• Lord, we bind this act to require children to be exposed to indoctrination about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered issues. Protect their purity and remove these offensive people out of the place of authority. Give us godly, solid Christians in all places of authority in our nation.

"But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. (Mark 9:42)

Recent events bring Gog/Magog prophecy into play

In Ezekiel 38, the LORD speaks of a war where Gog leads Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya to "come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes (38:16)." The conventional wisdom is that Gog is Russia, Persia is Iran, Ethiopia and Libya are Northern Africa. And this war is a major event marking the end time prophecies. In recent weeks, announcements in the news media point toward that development as Russia is reestablishing itself as a supplier of weapons and weapons technology.

Consider that Russia, when it was the Soviet Union, once held strong ties to the terrorist Middle East especially with support and weapons sales to the Palestinian Liberation Organization, now the Palestinian Authority, and to Iran, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya and more. When President Reagan's policies bankrupted the Soviet military machine and dispersed the Soviet empire, those relationships in the Middle East were put on hold. But since Russia has recovered economically and its military industry is once again thriving, it is making new headway with the dark side of the Middle East--Islam. Russia, however, is taking a more aggressive, deceptive and ultimately dangerous approach.

For nearly a decade, Russia has been playing a cat and mouse diplomatic game to block sanctions against Iran for its nuclear program. All the while, Russia and China were supplying Iran with nuclear materials, nuclear technology and missile technology. Now Russia has flipped the switch on its so-called nuclear energy plant in Iran. Meanwhile, Iran is under useless sanctions from the United Nations and the United States for its nuclear weapons program. Indeed, Russia's diabolical plan is about to advance as Iran has vowed to share its nuclear technology with other Islamic nations. Meanwhile, Russia is arming the enemies of Israel.

Interfax news agency reports that Russia will be selling some 72 cruise missiles to Syria. In May, Russia also agreed to supply Syria with its MiG-29 fighter jets, Pantsir short-range air defense systems and armored vehicles. AFP reports that senior Israeli government officials are calling the Russian move irresponsible and a threat to the strategic balance in the region. Of particular concern for Israel is Syria's relationship with Iran and terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, both of which have vowed to destroy Israel. For those who watch the prophecy clock, keep your eyes on Israel, Russia and Syria. For Isaiah 17:1 prophesies Damascus will someday be a "ruinous heap."

Senate Upholds "Don't Ask Don't Tell"

DREAM Act Fails, Too

Gary Bauer: Senate Republicans Stand With Marines

Senate liberals today lost a vote to allow open homosexuals to serve in the military. Top military officials have repeatedly expressed their opposition to Congress' meddling, and this morning Marine General James Amos, Obama's nominee to be the next Marine Corps Commandant, also weighed in during testimony before the Senate's Armed Services Committee.

General Amos told the Committee, "In my personal view, the current law and associated policy have supported the unique requirements of the Marine Corps, and thus I do not recommend its repeal." He added that Marine input from an online survey regarding Congress' plan to allow open homosexuality in the military "has been predominantly negative."

General Amos also told senators that changing the policy now would "serve as a distraction to Marines who are tightly focused at this point on combat operations in Afghanistan." None of this, however, swayed Senate Democrats, 54 of whom voted against the general's advice and the predominant view of our Marines. (Gary Bauer)

A Note from Federal Intercessors:

Dear Federal Intercessors,

You may have heard by now, but I wanted to make sure each of you knew that earlier today in the Senate, cloture failed on the Defense Appropriations bill! That means that "don't ask, don't tell" (the homosexual-driven agenda) and the DREAM Act (essentially a back door illegal alien amnesty program with HUGE costs) have failed! HALLELUJAH!!! Praise, Thanks, and Glory to God!!! Thanks to each of you who prayed in faith that God would be gracious to us and again thwart the incremental destruction of America!

Many Thanks and Blessings,

Mark Williamson, President
Federal Intercessors
A note from CHPP:

We join with the vast majority of Americans tonight who are shouting HALLELUJAH at the defeat of Obama's efforts to dismantle this long-standing policy in our military.

Thank you to all who prayed, and who acted, to make this day come true. Amen and amen!

A note from Christian Coalition of America

Christian Coalition of America is proud of pro-family victory in U.S. Senate today

Christian Coalition of America President Roberta Combs commends the United States Senate (at least the minority) for voting to keep liberal Democrats from putting open homosexuals into the military; from forcing Americans to pay for abortions in military hospitals and for giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. It was a tremendous victory for the pro-family movement and for Senator John McCain who led the opposition to this cynical and sham Democrat "defense" bill.

All of these provisions in the Democrat "defense" bill are outrageous actions opposed by a large majority of the American people. Roberta Combs said: "We thank all the Republicans for staying together in the 43-56 vote to break the Republican filibuster (60 were needed to break it.) Christian Coalition especially thanks the two Democrat Senators from Arkansas , Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, for opposing this terrible bill and for considering the morale and discipline of the U.S. armed forces. The vote made by the other Democrats to break the filibuster will be noted in Christian Coalition Voter Guides to be published later this month."

A major objective by the liberal Democrats was to repeal the 1993 law -- passed overwhelmingly by a Democrat-controlled Congress and signed by Bill Clinton -- stating that homosexuals are not eligible to serve in the military. After the expected tsunami in the November elections, it is doubtful that this issue will come up for a vote for a very long time.

"Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the LORD!" (Psalm 150:6)

Obama Supporters "Exhausted"

Yesterday Obama faced his toughest critics - the American people. The town hall meeting on the economy organized by the financial news network CNBC was a highly choreographed event. Virtually everyone there was an Obama supporter, which is why what happened yesterday is so indicative of the problem Obama and the Democrats are confronting in the polls.

When Obama finished his opening remarks and turned the floor over to the audience, the very first question he took was from Velma Hart. Here's what she said:

"I am a chief financial officer for a veterans service organization . . . and I'm one of your middle-class Americans. And quite frankly, I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the mantle of change that I voted for and deeply disappointed with where we are right now.

"I have been told that I voted for a man who said he was going to change things in a meaningful way for the middle class. I'm one of those people, and I'm waiting, sir. I'm waiting. I don't feel it yet."

Velma had a lot more to say, and you can watch it here. But what Velma may not understand is that Obama HAS changed things for the middle class only for the worse.

Obama cited healthcare "reform" and new financial regulations aimed at credit card companies as examples of what he's done for middle-class Americans. Let's consider that. These programs will cost tremendous amounts of money, and there isn't enough to pay for it all, even if they confiscated every dime from the "rich." As for credit card "reform," the end result will be that many Americans, including some small business owners, won't be able to get credit or, if they can, it will cost them much more.

While unemployment is on the rise, the administration is waging war against the energy industry by raising taxes on oil and natural gas companies, shutting down deepwater drilling and issuing so many new regulations that coal mining jobs are disappearing. (Gary Bauer)

President Pence?

The 2010 Values Voter Summit was a tremendous success. One of the most well-received speeches came from my friend Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), who rallied men and women of faith to fight on in America's cultural war. Invoking the tragedy of slavery and the Civil War, Rep. Pence reminded the audience, "Those who would have us ignore the battle being fought over life, marriage and religious liberty have forgotten the lessons of history. As in the days of a house divided, America's darkest moments have come when economic arguments trumped moral principles."

The folks there took his message to heart - Rep. Pence won the straw poll, beating out such heavyweights as Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and other well-known figures. In fact, Summit attendees appreciated Rep. Pence's message so much that he also won the vice presidential straw poll.

It's not hard to appreciate why folks at the Summit would embrace Mike Pence. I've known Mike for many years, even before he was in Congress, and he has always been a Ronald Reagan conservative. He understands the three pillars of our movement - economic, defense and social conservatism. He is young and articulate and does not run from our issues.

Pence's surprising and encouraging victory at the Values Voter Summit mirrors the success of the Tea Party this year, and suggests that many Americans are yearning for new leadership from individuals who are not necessarily in the news or talked about every day by the pundits. Trust me - you'll be hearing a lot more about - and from - Mike Pence in the days ahead. (Gary Bauer)

A note from CHPP:

We can assure you that Mike Pence is a man who believes in prayer, who knows the power of prayer, and who deeply appreciates all who have been praying for him in Congress.

No matter who wins the election in 2012, we are grateful today that a leader of such integrity has now caught the public eye, and we congratulate Mike Pence on his victory in this weekend's straw poll.

Shariah a danger to U.S.

Bill Gertz

The Washington Times
September 14, 2010

A panel of national security experts who worked under Republican and Democratic presidents is urging the Obama administration to abandon its stance that Islam is not linked to terrorism, arguing that radical Muslims are using Islamic law to subvert the United States.

In a report set for release today, the panel states that "it is vital to the national security of the United States, and to Western civilization at large, that we do what we can to empower Islam's authentic moderates and reformers."

The study group, sponsored by the conservative-oriented Center for Security Policy, says in its report that proponents of advancing Islamic law mark the "crucial fault line" in Islam's internal divisions separating truly moderate Muslims, like the late Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, from the large portion of the world's 1 billion Muslims who advocate imposing what they call Shariah law throughout the world. . . . Al Qaeda on the Hill

Congressional Muslim Staffers Association Embraces Islamic Radicals and Terrorists

Immediately after 9/11, the CMSA [Congressional Muslim Staffers Association] began holding Friday afternoon prayer services on Capitol Hill. Who did they choose to lead them in their prayers? Al-Qaeda sheikh Anwar al-Aulaqi, who is currently subject to a kill or capture order issued by Obama. In fact, video of Aulaqi preaching to the CMSA was included in the 2002 documentary, "Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet." That video clip is available to view by the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

Identified in that clip listening to the Al-Qaeda cleric are Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR); then-CAIR Communications specialist Randall "Ismail" Royer, who is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence on terrorism charges; and sitting directly beside Royer is CMSA founder and former president Jameel Alim Johnson.
The invitation to an Al-Qaeda cleric who alre ady had been tied to two of the 9/11 hijackers (as reported in the 9/11 Commission Report) to lead CMSA prayers is not the only troubling aspect of Jameel Johnson's congressional record. In December 2007, I reported on an Islamic conference on Capitol Hill that had been scheduled by Johnson as chief of staff from Congressman Gregory Meeks. The conference was canceled at the last minute by the House of Representatives Sergeant-at-Arms when it was discovered that the conference scheduled by Johnson was to feature a long list of Islamic radicals, some of whom were known to be on the terror watch list. . . . 20K Petitions Presented to Republican Leadership

"Don't Forget Family Values"

A coalition of social conservative leaders delivered 20,000 signed petitions to Republican leadership last Friday, requesting that family values be included in what is being dubbed the new "Contract with America.

Gary Bauer, president of American Values, who led the petition drive said conservatives need to hold the political establishment's "feet to the fire." "Pro-life, pro-family values aren't wedge issues," Bauer said. "They're critical for the future of our country and the party."

Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council, said the political establishment needs to acknowledge the importance of social issues to Christian voters. "We're going to see what their public commitment is to (social) issues when they release the statement," Perkins said. "They don't want to spend precious time with the conservative movement kind of in an internal fight, because they left out one element or two elements." (CitizenLink)
