"Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love." (I Corinthians 16:13,14)
The Daily Brief
1. U.S. Soldiers Subjected to 'Mind Control' - WorldNetDaily
The U.S. military long has been able to launch a missile, explode a bridge or fire a weapon with the push of a button. Under testing now is a system intended to control a soldier's psychiatric status, make him alert, reduce his stress and intervene when he suffers pain, among other applications, with the press of a button. Using funding from a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, he said every aspect of "human sensation, perception, emotion, and behavior is regulated by brain activity. Thus, having the ability to stimulate brain function is a powerful technology."
Added John Pattison, "This is the missing link between artificial intelligence, brain computer uploading, even cyborg research and special ability of telepathy, ESP, psychic, pentecostal Christians who access others thoughts via the spiritual realm."
• Heavenly Father, we pray against the increasing efforts of our government to control our lives. We pray for the troops to not be subjected to this mind control. Wake us out of our slumber to rise up with a loud vocal protest. Help us succeed in stopping these experiments of mind control as unethical and unwarranted.
• Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. (Colossians 2:8)
2. Hillary Clinton Sees 'A Certain Momentum' in Mideast Peace Talks As She Heads to Region - CNS News
Clinton and former Sen. George Mitchell, Obama's special envoy to the region, plan to be in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, for talks Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
One concern of all the parties to the talks is Hamas, the militant Islamist movement that refuses to negotiate and opposes Israel's very existence. Hamas controls the Gaza Strip, which is supposed to be part of a negotiated Palestinian state along with most of the West Bank.
• Lord, we pray that the Obama Administration will not intimidate Israel into any compromise. We pray they will instead stand with Israel in protecting the nation. We bless Israel and pray for its protection.
• I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Genesis 12:3)
3. Pennsylvania City Threatens Supreme Court Battle After Immigration Ruling - Fox News
The town of Hazleton, Pa., is threatening a Supreme Court showdown after a panel of judges last week threw out its restrictions against hiring and renting to illegal immigrants, a decision supporters say gives Washington a free pass to ignore its enforcement responsibilities. But Hazleton advocates said the ruling tied the hands of local government.
"The 3rd Circuit accepted a tried and true formula of the ACLU and its allies that immigration law is too complicated for states to do anything other than dole out services at taxpayer expense, regardless of residency," Dan Stein, president of The Federation for American Immigration Reform, said in a written statement. "This line of argument allows the federal government to continue to mismanage immigration while sending the states into financial chaos and ruin."
• Lord, we pray that our government will not succeed in going after the states that want to enforce the laws against illegals. Let states rights be recognized by the courts. Let the Supreme Court rule in favor of the states.
• "You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment. ( Deuteronomy 16:18)
4. Lookout! Government Peering at You with X-rays on Highway - World Net Daily
The Department of Homeland Security, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service and even local law enforcement agencies are buying and deploying mobile X-ray vans.
Electronic Privacy Information Center spokesman Marc Rotenberg says, "We have a series of open government requests. We are trying to make known to the public how the devices operate and what the privacy and health risks are. We've also formally petitioned to have the program suspended pending a formal review," Rotenberg explained. Rotenberg adds that his organization believes the federal government should wait until there are sufficient legal safeguards in place before the vans and other machines are used.
• Lord, place into positions of authority strong Christian people to make the nation's policy decisions concerning safety and ethical issues with the cameras, x-ray technology, and computer tracking devices.
• When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. (Numbers 10:9)
5. Imam Says NYC Mosque Site Is Not 'Hallowed Ground' - Fox News
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf said Monday that the location where the center would be built, two blocks from the World Trade Center, has a strip joint and betting parlors nearby. He says it's "absolutely disingenuous" to suggest that it is "hallowed ground."
Critics of the proposal say putting a mosque so close to where Islamic extremists brought down the World Trade Center in 2001 shows disrespect for the dead. Supporters cite religious freedom.
• Thank you, Lord, for this controversy over the proposed mosque near Ground Zero. It is causing us to take a closer look at the increase of the influence of Islam on our citizens and nation. We pray that the doors of opportunity will open wide for the adherents to come to a saving knowledge of the Lord.
• And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:30, 31)
6. Senate Republicans Say They'll Block Tax Increase - CNS News
At issue is a year-end deadline to renew a variety of tax cuts enacted in 2001 - when the federal government was running a surplus. They include lower rates, a $1,000 per-child tax credit, relief for married couples, and lower taxes on investments and large estates.
Democrats are worried that November elections could hand the GOP control of the House and perhaps the Senate. The White House and its Democratic allies hope to use the tax-cut fight to cast themselves as defenders of the middle class and Republicans as a party eager to revive the days of a still-unpopular former president, George W. Bush.
• Lord, thank you for causing the Republicans and Tea Party candidates to stand strong against this over-spending. Give them favor with the voters and give them focus and resolve to reverse all that has transpired in the last few years to destroy our nation. Let them win a big way and not waver once they win.
• And he said, "Listen . . .Thus says the Lord to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. (2 Chronicles 20:15)
7. Bacteria Unfazed by Drugs are Found - The Washington Times
An infectious-disease nightmare is unfolding: A new gene that can turn many types of bacteria into superbugs resistant to nearly all antibiotics has sickened people in three states and is popping up all over the world, health officials reported Monday. Scientists have long feared this - a very adaptable gene that hitches onto many types of common germs and confers broad drug resistance.
"It's a great concern" because drug resistance has been rising and few new antibiotics are in development, said Dr. M. Lindsay Grayson, director of infectious diseases at the University of Melbourne in Australia. "It's just a matter of time" until the gene spreads more widely person to person, he said. "The ingredients are there" for widespread transmission, he said. "It's going to spread by plane all over the world."
• Lord, you promised us that if we turned to you for help you would hide us in the midst of the storms of life. We pray that you will cover your people and all those who are vulnerable - the aged, the weak, and handicapped. Be our protector.
• Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." (Psalms 23:4)
8. Suit to Overturn Obamacare Hears First Arguments - NewsMax
All eyes will be focused on a Pensacola, Florida courtroom Tuesday as Justice Department lawyers will try to convince a federal district court judge to throw out a lawsuit by 20 states charging that Obama's healthcare reforms are unconstitutional. The multi-state lawsuit has been led by Florida's Attorney General, a Republican. The Obama administration has claimed that the states have no legal standing to bring their legal action.
The central issue in the hearing: Whether the states are legally empowered to challenge the fines in the individual mandate that gives Obamacare its bite. Both sides in the dispute have indicated the case will eventually come before the U.S. Supreme Court - perhaps before the 2012 presidential election.
• Thank you, Lord, that you are stirring people to rise up against government oppression. We pray for judges that will rule against the harmful decisions of this administration and rule with righteousness and wisdom.
• For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.( Ephesians 6:12)

The thief that steals, kills and destroys--Our Socialist Government
It doesn't take a PhD in Economics to realize that the American economy is in a tailspin that might take decades, if ever, to recover. The International Monetary Fund says America and Europe face the worst jobs crisis since the 1930s and risk, "an implosion of social unrest." A joint IMF-International Labor Federation report cited by the UK Telegraph says that "The Great Recession has left gaping wounds. High and long-lasting unemployment represents a risk to the stability of existing democracies." The report then calls those caught in the recession "victims" and citied evidence that those in their early 20s suffer lifetime damage and lose faith in public institutions.
Let's recap. Socialists like the current man who occupies the Oval Office and those who have taken over the European nations have spent their constituencies into oblivion, racked up record debt and deficits in the trillions and now they are worried about social unrest in democracies. And they are further concerned that people in their 20s would begin understanding that socialism is a bane to any human's existence and ultimately lose faith in public institutions. Public institutions, meaning governments from your local town council to the White House, are what socialists want their victims to have faith in. The entire concept of socialism is to force people to have faith in government as if it were God.
And this is where political social justice, tolerance for immoral acts such as abortion and homosexuality, removal of God from the public square, tolerance for false religions combined with the destruction of the economy will force totalitarianism upon the people. Socialism is, as a Jot subscriber put it, a satanic religion. We know from the words of Jesus in John 10:10, "The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy." The "thief." Now who is a thief? One who steals, kills and destroys. The socialist government steals your money. The socialist government incentivizes killing of the pre-born and the elderly through abortion and euthanasia. The socialist government destroys your freedom.
This socialist government Americans are tolerating has spent more of your money and run up record deficits and debt than all the governments from Washington to Reagan combined. This is happening because America has turned from its first love--Jesus Christ. In the second part of John 10:10, Jesus says, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Your life will be abundant with Christ at the center. With the socialist government at the center, you will suffer theft, death, and destruction. Satan is expert at soul destruction. As Christians, we must stand firm on our instruction to preach the gospel to every creature, and be soul winners!
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Federal Appeals Court Suspends Ban on Stem Cell Funding
The Obama administration can now continue it's financing of life-destroying human embryonic stem-cell research.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., placed a hold today on District Judge Royce Lamberth's Aug. 23 order, while awaiting Lamberth's ruling on the original lawsuit.
In its incongruous attempt to downplay the administration continued quest to finance the destruction of human life in the name of research, The New York Times played up the government's argument that the ban's suspension would:
. . . save research mice from being euthanized, cells in petri dishes from starving and scores of scientists from facing a suspension of paychecks.
Steven Aden, legal counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, said that technically the U.S. National Institutes of Health could now restart its embryonic stem-cell research funding -- after halting it last month.
"But, of course, they run the real risk that having turned the battleship around," Aden said, "they would have to reverse course again when the circuit court rules on the actual merits of the appeal."
Sam Casey, executive vice president & general counsel at Advocates International, said the plaintiffs representing adult stem-cell researchers will file a motion to counter the government's emergency stay request.
"We will file our opposition next Tuesday and expect the court of appeals to rule within about a week or so," Casey said, "As a result of this short administrative stay we really don't expect the government to lift its current suspension of intramural and extramural funding."
Aden and Casey are both confident of a pro-life victory in the court of appeals.

Congress is Back
What to Expect: Amid Economic Bills, Votes on Social Issues Still Expected
The pressure is on for Democrats. The U.S. Congress reconvenes this week -- the Senate today and the House on Tuesday -- for at least the next three weeks. In particular, the U.S. Senate has a backlog of 300 House-generated measures yet to be voted on.
Embedded within the litany of economic bills to be considered are several with social policy implications -- and which are sure to garner strong opposition. In response to two federal court decisions -- handed down during the five-week recess -- Hill watchers expect the Senate to take up the repeal of the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. Both chambers are expected to vote on a legislative "fix" to President Obama's Executive Order on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research (ESCR) -- which was blocked in federal court.
With less than 50 days before what pundits predict to be a "Waterloo" midterm election for the ruling Party, at-risk Democrat legislators are more than queasy about voting on more liberal legislative priorities -- for fear of becoming a political casualty in exchange for their loyalty.

[Important Note from CHPP:
We will not tell you HOW to vote, but we do ask that each citizen be informed on these critical issues before casting your ballot in November.
Please pray, too, that each voter will be led by the LORD in his or her vote, and not by the voice of "a stranger." Thank you!]
