The Daily Brief - Monday, September 20, 2010

" . . . he that shall endure unto the end, he shall be saved." (Mark 13:13)

RECOMMENDED READING:

"America's First Martyrs," by Sara Ballenger.

This book tells the moving story of the martyrdom of over 350 French Huguenots who sailed to our land in 1564, seeking religious freedom. After an initially successful attempt at colonization in northeastern Florida, almost all died for their faith when a Spanish fleet of conquistadors put them to the sword.

"America's First Martyrs" is being released this week, in remembrance of their sacrifice, 445 years ago today (September 20, 1565).

"And they overcame them through the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto death." (Rev. 12:11)

The Daily Brief

1. Senate to vote Tomorrow to Overturn Military Policy on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" - Massachusetts Family Institute (see full article, below)

- Pray that this resolution never comes to the floor of the Senate - tomorrow and any day after that. This vote is another ploy on the part of Obama administration strategists to meet the homosexual agenda. Since most Americans do not support homosexual behavior as acceptable, Sen. Reid is walking on a nest of snakes. Pray for God's will to be done in this looming crisis. PRAY!

- "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." (Leviticus 18:22)

2. Obama Aides Weigh Bid to Tie the G.O.P. to the Tea Party - NY Times

Obama's political advisers, looking for ways to help Democrats and alter the course of the midterm elections in the final weeks, are considering a range of ideas, including national advertisements, to cast the Republican Party as all but taken over by Tea Party extremists, people involved in the discussion said.

- While politics has always involved lies, this current administration seems to excel as purveyors of propaganda and mistruths. Please pray that the campaign of lies and slurs does not materialize and that truth is exposed. Let the Democratic campaign explain what it stands for, not others. Their goal is to deflect the attention from themselves. Pray that the public does not believe any lies.

- "Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man!" (Psalm 43:1)

3. US Oil Well Declared Permanently Sealed - VOA News

The U.S. official in charge of the response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill said Sunday that the underwater well has been sealed permanently - five months after an explosion on an oil rig led to the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

- Praise the Lord that this oil spill has been sealed. Pray that no more leaks will occur to pollute our waters and harm the lives of humans and sea life. Pray that Progressives are unable to use this event as a reason for stopping oil drilling in the Gulf. Drilling has been occurring in the waters off Texas for many decades without incident.

- "I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou may know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name am the God of Israel." (Isaiah 45:3)

4. Ahmadinejad Speaks at U.N. - AP

Says Future is Iran's

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that "the future belongs to Iran," and challenged the United States to accept that his country has a major role in the world. He insisted that his government does not want an atomic bomb - something he has said in the past - and that Iran is only seeking peace and a nuclear-weapons-free world. He repeatedly sidestepped questions on when Iran would resume talks on its disputed nuclear program, and he said anti-nuclear sanctions against his government would have no effect.

"The United States' administrations . . . must recognize that Iran is a big power," he said. "Having said that, we consider ourselves to be a human force and a cultural power and hence a friend of other nations. We have never sought to dominate others or to violate the rights of any other country.

"Those who insist on having hostilities with us, kill and destroy the option of friendship with us in the future, which is unfortunate because it is clear the future belongs to Iran and that enmities will be fruitless."

- Once again, the Islamic mouthpiece is visiting the UN in New York City. Pray that his words will be marginalized, reduced to garbled jabber, and completely rejected. We need to pray him out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of God. His spirit seems completely ensnared by wickedness and lies. What would he do if he were denied entry into the USA?

- "Now we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)

5. Is this cancer's 'penicillin moment'? Gene targeting drug could herald 'end game' for disease - UK Daily Mail

A pill that rapidly shrinks the most deadly of skin tumors has been hailed as the dawn of a new era in cancer treatment.

- If true, this revelation should be a source of praise to the Lord. Because God can immediately heal, He knows all the strategies for medical healing also. We give thanks for this pill and ask the Lord to remove any potential side effects. Continue to pray for other discoveries for cures for various diseases that afflict your family, friends, and acquaintances.

- ". . . live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed." (1Peter 2:24)

6. Republicans Ready to Unveil New 'Contract With America' - Fox News

After months of being bashed for having no agenda, other than attacking Democrats, Republican leaders are gearing up to unveil a detailed plan that includes job creation, cutting government spending and counteracting recent health care legislation.

- Pray that there would be clarity in the public debate leading up to the elections in November; and pray that the voters be led by true facts instead of any and all deceoption. May only men and women of godly character be elected to serve in our next Congress. PRAY!

- "Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray." (Psalm 5:2)

The Daily Jot

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Obama took his family to church this past weekend. How I know is that there are headlines all over the media about it. It must be pretty bad when you are the president and going to church makes the headlines. Its that it happens so rarely that it makes news. But there are other things at play. Democrats in his party are distancing themselves from him. He had a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus to rally them behind race issues. And now the White House is trying to spin a New York Times lead story that his aides are planning an anti-GOP/TEA Party campaign saying that the Republican Party is being taken over by extremists.

Unemployment continues to rise. The national debt continues to rise. Home mortgage foreclosures continue to rise. Car sales continue to decline. And economists continue to predict bad things ahead. Now the government, which owns 61 percent of General Motors, is saying it will seek investment from the Chinese in the auto company that makes its marketing pitch on "the heartbeat of America." There is a great commercial out now where George Washington is driving an American flag-bearing Chevy into a firing line of British troops. They scatter at the sight of these magnificent American revolutionary cars. How will that change--will Mao Tse Tung be riding in the back seat?

In Florida this past weekend, thousands of citizens gathered at a rally demanding less government and lower taxes. Florida Senatorial candidate Marco Rubio electrified the crowd, according to the Miami Herald, when he said, "This election is nothing less than a referendum of our identity as a nation and as a people." How true. Without a national identity, a country can no longer be a country. In the early days of the nation, America's identity was often defined as Patrick Henry so eloquently stated: "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

That national bearing has all but been lost. Upon the last election, the man who won was often called "messiah," "savior," "the One," and other references to a deity--which he never denied. But Americans are seeing that straying from God's ways have consequences. Whether it is putting faith in a man to save the nation, or putting faith in ridiculous man-made religious doctrines, the move away from the true gospel of Christ has altered the blessings for America. Church and non-Church alike share this responsibility. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me." We are experiencing the consequences of electing people who do not accept this as truth.

Congress is Back in Session

Washington Back in Session - But Not For Long

By Robert K. Powers, Vice President of Government Relations
National Religious Broadcasters

NRB Issues Alert: DISCLOSE ACT and ENDA may still be passed this year

With the full House of Representatives and 22 seats in the Senate up for re-election in less than two months, Capitol Hill is fully engaged in "campaign mode." NRB's government relations outreach is very active, working hard on significant policy issues that are critical to retaining our important First Amendment freedoms. A few bills of concern are still "in play."

House and Senate leadership plan to keep this fall session very short. In fact, it is likely that both houses of Congress will adjourn on October 1st. That would give Members a full month to work on their own campaigns before the November 2nd election.

NRB believes that the very troubling DISCLOSE Act (H.R. 5175/ S. 3295) may yet be voted on this year. This legislation would stifle free speech in election campaigns. It already passed in the House. Since the White House promised that the bill would be completed and signed this year, all eyes are trained on the Senate, expecting them to finish the job. However, there is mounting opposition to the DISCLOSE Act, thanks to efforts by NRB and others.

An equally troubling bill, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) (H.R. 3017/S. 1584) may also be dealt with in coming weeks. This legislation would force organizations - even religious ones - to hire people whose lifestyles and beliefs run counter to the Biblical worldview of a private organization. It is feasible that ENDA might be brought up during a lame duck session, after the election and before the 112th Congress begins in January. Child Protection Compact Act

Bill S.3184: Child Protection Compact Act of 2010

I wanted you to know that Bill S.3184: Child Protection Compact Act of 2010 is going before the Senate for a vote, Tuesday, 21 September 2010, around 2:15pm. This bill will provide "United States assistance for the purpose of eradicating serve forms of trafficking in children in eligible countries through the implementation of Child Protection Compacts, and for other purposes."
"Authorizes the Secretary of State, through the Ambassador-at-Large of the Dept. of State's Office to monitor and combat trafficking in persons, to provide assistance (grants, cooperative agreements, or contracts) for an eligible country with a significant prevalence of trafficking in children that enters into a Child Protection Compact with the United States to support policies and programs to eradicate the trafficking of children."
"Every year more than one million children around the world are trafficked for forced labor or sexual exploitation."

Please let your senator know that you support this bill.

Let us pray that this bill will pass.

Blessings,
Cindy Jacobs

URGENT: DADT VOTE TOMORROW IN SENATE

WE NEED TO BE IN FERVENT PRAYER TO STOP SENATOR HARRY REID'S ATTEMPT TO FORCE HOMOSEXUALITY ON THE MILITARY.

At 2:00 pm EST tomorrow, Tuesday, September 21, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) plans to bring the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill to the Senate floor for a vote. This Bill authorizes Defense Department projects and programs, but it contains TWO nefarious amendments:

o The Don't Ask Don't Tell Amendment that would repeal the US military's 235 year-old ban on homosexuality

o The Burris Amendment that would authorize abortions in military hospitals.

All of the Service Chiefs of Staff - the four star generals and admirals over the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force - oppose the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell and agree with the standard established by General George Washington that homosexuality is destructive to military moral and effectiveness. Yet our political leaders, beholden to the powerful homosexual special interest groups, could care less about our military men and women and are obsessed with ramming this radical amendment down the throats of our troops. The majority of Americans agree with the Service Chiefs, not the politicians.

Federal funding of abortion has been banned since Roe v Wade and President Obama promised that the new Health Care Law would not use ANY federal funds for abortion. Yet the Burris amendment does the exact opposite in using federally funded doctors and hospital facilities to do abortions. The majority of American oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is objecting to any vote being held on the Defense Authorization Bill before the military concludes its study of the Bill's impact.

The only way to ensure that legislation on both issues does not pass is to block the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill with 41 votes in support of Sen. McCain's objection.

1. PLEASE PRAY that 41 Senators will support Senator McCain's objection tomorrow. (Matthew 18:19)

2. PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATOR and ask him or her to support Sen. McCain in opposing the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill. (individual senator phone numbers at http://www.theorator.com/senate.html )

With thanks and blessings,

Kris Mineau, President
Massachusetts Family Institute

Stop the DREAM Act

Sen. Reid Calls for Vote on DREAM Act Amnesty;

Call your Senators NOW!

By Frosty Wooldridge
September 20, 2010

NewsWithViews.com

Harry Reid attached the Dream Act onto a defense bill, that, if passed, will give automatic citizenship and a free ride to 2.1 million illegal aliens. The long term costs run into the billions. I ask you to take time today and tomorrow to call the senators below. Tell them you do not support any kind of a Dream Act because it rewards illegal aliens with your tax dollars.

Fellow Americans, we don't yet have the 41 sure NO votes that we must have to stop the DREAM Act amnesty in the Senate this week.

And don't put off your calls. They are desperately needed today. Go to www.NumbersUSA.com for more clarification if you need it. Pro-amnesty forces claim that their super-expensive, special toll-free telephone system processed 5,000 pro-amnesty phone calls to Senators yesterday. They brag that they expect to be handling 10,000 pro-amnesty calls a day until the DREAM Act amnesty passes! We have to match them. Please look at the target lists below and start phoning some Senators.

UPDATE:

Harry Reid has scheduled a vote on the Dept. of Defense Authorization bill for Tuesday afternoon. Reid has said he will try to add the DREAM Act Amnesty to the bill as an amendment. CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW and urge them to oppose the DREAM Act. The number for the Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121. Just ask for your Senator's office and tell them to VOTE NO on the DREAM Act. (Numbers USA) Read more.

Prayer Point:

Cry out to the Lord that He would energize opposition to the passage of this bill. Pray and act now!

- "This far and no further, and here shall your proud waves stop!" (Job 38:10)

Liberals Plan Lame Duck Session

Reid sets 2-part Senate lame-duck session that will start on Nov. 15

House Schedule Uncertain

Historically, Lame Duck Sessions (convening Congress after an election but before the new Congress takes office in January) have been used to pass authorization bills necessary to continue government operations, but not sweeping, unpopular legislation like that which has motivated the rising discontent of American voters. Liberals are expecting to take a beating in November precisely because they passed bills that were opposed by large majorities of Americans.

In Israel: MKs Seek Forgiveness for Freeze

by Maayana Miskin

Members of Knesset from the Jewish Home and Yisrael Beiteinu "confessed their sins" Thursday, saying the Judea and Samaria construction freeze was a bad decision and they were sorry it had begun. Jews traditionally confess their sins prior to Yom Kippur and apologize to those they have wronged.

Minister of Science Daniel Hershkowitz, head of the Jewish Home party, said, "Everyone has their personal introspection to do, but as a minister in the government, on a national level, the greatest mistake was the construction freeze, the decision made ten months ago. We came to the land to build and be built, and also, putting politics aside, it is absurd to freeze construction only for Jews."
If it weren't for the decision to freeze Judea and Samaria construction for Jews, the government would not currently be under pressure to continue the freeze, Hershkowitz said. "The mistake was that we set the standard that we can freeze construction, that is the sin and the great mistake, and I hope that regarding what we did, the damage can be rectified," he said.

Israel can repent for the freeze by refusing to extend it despite pressure from the United States, and renewing construction on September 26, he concluded.

MK David Rotem of Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel Our Home) made a similar apology. "We sinned in that we did not sufficiently strengthen our settlement in the land of Israel, and as a result, we did not sufficiently resist the construction freeze. For this we must ask forgiveness," he said.

Rotem listed other national sins as well. "We sinned in that we did not allow the soldiers of the IDF to protect the people of Israel with all their might. We sinned in that Gilad Shalit is still not home, because we should have carried out a strong, serious operation to bring him home," he said. (Israel National News)

He added an apology to non-Jews who have been mistreated while attempting to convert to Judaism. "I want to request forgiveness from all those who wish to convert, and we create unnecessary obstacles," he said.

"I want to request forgiveness from all of those I mentioned, and I hope the next year will be a better year," Rotem continued. He concluded, "We must make every effort to fix things, we may not always succeed, but we must make the maximum effort."

Worship with Us Today!

Feast of Tabernacles 2010
Sponsored by: ICEJ (International Christian Embassy Jerusalem)

The Christian celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles, held each year in the city of Jerusalem and sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, is a time of unity, joy, rest, restoration and ingathering. We expect well over 5,000 Christians from nearly 100 nations to ascend to Jerusalem this week for this anointed gathering, which runs from 23 to 29 September.

Pilgrims come from many nations to worship the Lord, pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and to bless and stand with Israel. We believe that celebrating the Feast each year honours the Lord in anticipation of the fulfillment of the words spoken by Zechariah the prophet that one day "the nations... shall come up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles" (Zechariah 14:16).

LIVE STREAMING!

For those who cannot be with us, this year's celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles will be broadcast LIVE from the International Convention Center in Jerusalem between September 23 - 29th from 7:30 - 11:00 PM each evening, Israeli and CE time, exclusively on the ICEJ's website.
To view LIVE STREAMING of the Feast, please go here.
