The Daily Brief August 27, 2008

SPECIAL EDITION

"Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; I take refuge in You." (Psalm 143:9 NKJV)

Catholic Officials to Pelosi: Stick to Politics!

On Sunday's "Meet the Press" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked when she would counsel "life begins," to Barack Obama, who put that question "above [his] pay grade." Pelosi responded that, as an "ardent, practicing Catholic," the answer is unclear and that "the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition."

The Catholic Church begs to differ. Archbishop Chaput of Denver said in response, "Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them." He goes on to note, "Ardent, practicing Catholics will quickly learn from the historical record that from apostolic times, the Christian tradition overwhelmingly held that abortion was grievously evil." Cardinal Rigali of the Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities responded, "The Church's moral teaching never justified or permitted abortion at any stage of development." Archbishop Wuerl of Washington, D.C. quoted the Catholic Catechism, which states, "Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception .

Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion." I commend Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop Chaput, Archbishop Wuerl, and also Cardinal Egan of New York for their firm and clear reaffirmations of the dignity of human life. Pro-Life Voices in Denver

Despite the strong pro-abortion positions of the Democratic platform and the party's imminent nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, pro-life voices are anything but silent in Denver during this week's Democratic convention. Last night, FRC Action's own Peter Sprigg joined several thousand people in Denver's Martin Luther King Park for a pro-life rally, followed by a peaceful prayer march around a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility that targets minorities. Featured speakers included Dr. Alveda King, niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who declared that life is "the civil rights issue of our day." Also featured was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Denver, Charles Chaput, author of a just-published book on the relationship between religion and politics titled Render unto Caesar.

Young people in the crowd -- those born after the 1973 Supreme Court decision -- wore t-shirts declaring, "I Survived Roe v. Wade."

At the Democrats' official interfaith prayer gathering on Sunday, the crowd reportedly went silent when the keynote speaker, Bishop Charles E. Blake of the Church of God in Christ, expressed the "moral and spiritual pain so many of us feel because of this disregard for the lives of the unborn." Sen. Robert Casey (D-Penn.), who speaks at the convention tonight, calls himself pro-life - we hope that his message tonight will be strongly and comprehensively pro-life one. Prayer Points for the Conventions

Intercessory Prayer Initiative PRAYER ALERT - 8/26/08

Prayer Points for the Conventions
Dear Prayer Warriors:The Democratic National Convention is in full swing this week (Aug. 24-28) in Denver, CO. According to Fox News, the Democrats are determined to brandish their wide array of faith at the convention. They spent several months reaching out to the faith community, and have strategically courted the evangelical vote, particularly the young evangelicals, in an effort to gain their support and guarantee the White House.

Prayer Points for the Democratic Convention -- Pray that the Democratic platform would clearly state what they stand for and what they want to achieve if they win the White House. -- Pray that the delegates and the entire nation will witness what is actually the truth concerning their platform and their candidates. -- Pray for an unexpected turn of events this week that would reveal any hidden agendas concerning our freedoms, national security and right to life. -- Pray that people will see past the charm to the real issues at stake.

While the DNC is seeking to gain momentum toward a November victory this week, the Republican Platform Committee is meeting to develop the core beliefs and key positions on which McCain and his running mate will run. This platform will be presented at the National Convention, Sept. 1-4, 2008 and will be the basis for future campaigning and bid for the White House.

Prayer Points for the Republican Convention: -- Pray that the lines of demarcation between both parties would be clear and distinct so that people will be able to discern which direction is best for the nation. -- Pray that the Lord will direct Senator McCain toward the vice-presidential candidate of God's choosing and that he/she would embody strong leadership skills, character and integrity. -- Pray that the Lord will direct the drafting of the Republican platform to express the best agenda to get the country back on a righteous track in all areas. Faith Forum Peddles Leftist Propaganda

Focus Action
In the end, the Democrats weren't even trying. Their well-hyped outreach to religious conservatives dribbled away in a thin soup of solutions that have long failed to solve social problems. The title of Tuesdayís Faith Forum at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver asked the question: "How can progressives and conservatives find common ground?" The answer: Apparently nowhere.Moderator Jim Wallis of Sojourners cautioned his audience that God is neither Republican nor Democrat, but from that point on you'd have thought God had endorsed the entire social agenda of the political Left.

When the topic turned to the pesky issue of abortion, former U.S. Rep. Tim Roemer praised Sen. Barack Obama's desire to see abortions reduced 95 percent in 10 years, adding the caveat "fully within the law" -- meaning, apparently, "keep your hands off Roe v. Wade." Wallis barely mentioned abortion, but sliced the Republicans when he did, saying they lacked a "consistent ethic" of life -- again, meaning "don't talk to us about abortion until you oppose the death penalty."

This cheap shot, of course, erases the distinction between the innocent and the guilty, and therein lies the larger point in the abortion debate, a point totally ignored by these panelists. There can be only one reason Obama wants to see 95 percent fewer abortions -- it is the unjustified taking of innocent life. And for that reason alone, it should not just be reduced, but eliminated. This is the huge gap in logic that pro-abortionists refuse to address.

Tuesday's dip by the DNC into the liberal realms of religion is a strange and barren landscape for religious conservatives. There is nothing of sin, redemption, salvation, and very little of personal responsibility and self-discipline. Based on the presentations by the nine panelists at this two-hour forum, there is, in this world, mostly government-given rights and government grants. The Dems' 'soft' jihadist

By Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.

August 26, 2008

On Sunday, Democratic delegates convening in Denver were prayed over by representatives of various faiths. One stood out: Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America. With this choice, Barak Obama's campaign has committed a strategic error of the first order. After all, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has been identified by the Department of Justice not only as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood - a global Islamist movement with the stated mission in America of "destroying Western civilization from within." Worse yet, it has also been named as an unindicted co- conspirator in the United States' largest alleged terrorism financing conspiracy. . .
Insofar as the Muslim Brotherhood explicitly seeks and is working for the destruction of our government and Western civilization more generally, it is engaged in a criminal conspiracy that constitutes treasonous sedition. That reality has two critical implications: First, the Brotherhood must be formally designated a terrorist organization, putting an end to the reckless notion - promoted by, among others, the U.S. State Department - that practitioners of soft jihad are less dangerous and an effective antidote to co-religionists who are prepared to use violence immediately, rather than later on.

Second, under 18 US Code 2382: " Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States and having knowledge of the commission of any treason against them, conceals and does not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to [appropriate officials] is guilty of misprision of treason and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than seven years, or both." Senator Obama, his party, Bush administration officials and, for that matter, ordinary citizens of the United States are obliged to take steps to counteract seditious Muslim Brotherhood activities in our midst. To do otherwise is not just suicidal. It is a crime.

Obama: Hidden Things Revealed

Obama Defensive about his Relationship with Unrepentant Terrorist Bill Ayers

The presidential campaign of Democrat B. Hussein Obama is trying to oppress free speech by using threats and bully tactics to cause television networks to stop running an ad that correctly and truthfully ties Obama to the 1960's Marxist Weathermen terrorist Bill Ayers. Ayers, who from the living room of his own house helped launch Obama's political career, was the ring leader of the terrorist group responsible for some 30 bombings across the country from 1969 to 1973, including the US Capitol and the Pentagon. Ayers remains to this day unrepentant for the acts of terror. He told the New York Times on September 11, 2001, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough."

Truth is that the ad linking Obama with Ayers is factual. It even left out the part that Obama was the first chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform group that the Marxist Ayers founded. So Obama's relationship with Ayers is far deeper than Obama will admit. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, "Be not deceived: Evil companionship corrupts moral habits." Obama's association with Ayers and other Marxists is a reflection of how Obama views the nation he would lead. Those he associates with seek to destroy the country and its values. Given the way Obama apologizes for America, his Marxist buddies must have had an impact on his way of thinking.
