Today's Daily Brief - Friday, 7-6-07

1. New Effort To End War Set For Monday - New York Sun

Five weeks after President Bush won unfettered funding for America to fight the war in Iraq until September, Senate Democrats will try again on Monday to end the war.

Their opening move will be three key amendments to the 2008 bill that authorizes defense spending. The defense bill is set to be marked up on July 9. Most appealing to wavering Republicans will be an amendment offered by Sen. James Webb, D-VA. Mr. Webb, who served as President Reagan's secretary of the Navy, proposes to lengthen the leave time of active and reserve duty soldiers, making reinforcement of the current surge next to impossible.

*Heavenly Father, you know how easy it is to be discouraged when encouragement and support are not found in your homeland. Please allow our troops to be confident that they will finish the job You gave them to do to help free Iraq and the Middle East from the power of the evil one!

*"The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not all acquit the wicked." (Nahum 1: 3 NKJV)

2. Poll: 45% Say Impeach Bush: Over 50% Want Proceedings Against Cheney

A new poll by the American Research Group found nearly half of the American public favors impeaching President Bush. The private survey indicated 45 percent want the president impeached while 54 percent want the House to launch impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney.

With a simple majority vote, the House can impeach presidents and vice presidents. Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson are the only two presidents to be impeached. Both were acquitted.

The poll indicated 69 percent of Democrats favored impeaching Bush while just 13 percent of Republicans showed support. Among independents, 33 percent wanted to impeach the president.

*Dear just and gracious Father, we humbly ask You to continue to reveal the hearts of the American people so they can be healed of unjust lies from the media, elected officials and other sources designed to subvert our nation into warring camps. We ask for your protection of our Constitutional form of government and that the unclean spirits of sedition and anarchy will not prevail. May America turn to You and may You save America!

*"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." (Jeremiah 33: 3 NKJV)

3. 45 Muslim Doctors Planned U.S. Terror Raids - London Telegraph

A group of 45 Muslim doctors threatened to use car bombs and rocket grenades in terrorist attacks in the United States during discussions on an extremist Internet chat site. Police found details of the discussions on a site run by one of a three-strong "cyber-terrorist" gang, a British national, and two who had been given the right to live in Britain. All are facing lengthy jail sentences after admitting using the Internet to spread al-Qa'eda propaganda inciting Muslims to a violent holy war and to murder non-believers.

One message read: "We are 45 doctors and we are determined to undertake jihad and take the battle inside America. The first target which will be penetrated by nine brothers is the naval base which gives shelter to the ship Kennedy." This is thought to have been a reference to the USS John F. Kennedy, which is often at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, Florida.

* Dear Jesus, this web of terror is more far-flung that anything we could have imagined! Please continue to reveal those and their plots who threaten death and violence to Israel and her allies, including America!

* "He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever." (Luke 1: 51, 52, 54 & 55 NKJV)

4. Western U.S. Bakes In 100+ Heat Wave - Associated Press

The ongoing western heat wave is showing no signs of letting up. While California languishes in drought conditions, Las Vegas predicted reaching 116 degrees today, possibly reaching a record set in 1942 and 1985 of 117 degrees. In Bullhead City, Arizona, it was 122 yesterday, Phoenix was at 116, Yuma at 114, and Tucson was the "cool spot" at 110. Forecasters are predicting triple-digit heat as far north as Idaho. The dangerous weather is expected to last for at least a few more days.

*Dearest Father, we ask You to please send Your healing rain upon the parched western states. We ask You to again allow the coming of rain to represent Your heavenly power and might as You did with King Ahab and the prophet Elijah. Thank You in advance for the relief You will provide!

*"And it came to pass after many days that the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, 'Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth.' So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab; and there was a severe famine in Samaria. Then Elijah said to Ahab, 'Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.' Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain." (1 Kings 18: 1& 2, 41& 45 NKJV)

5. Nigerian Militants Kidnap 3-Year Old Girl, Demand Father As Ransom - Stratfor Briefs

The Nigerian militants who kidnapped Margaret Hill, a 3-year-old British girl, in Nigeria's Niger Delta on July 5, are now demanding money in exchange for her release, her mother said today. Earlier, the kidnappers demanded that her father surrender himself in exchange for his daughter. The kidnappers told Oluchi Hill to meet them in a town in Bayelsa state, but neither she nor the police have been able to find the location.

* Savior Jesus, You know where little Margaret is and how she is doing. We pray that she will be released unharmed and without any more hostages or monies taken in exchange. Please comfort her and her parents and may they and the authorities be able, through You, to find their daughter. May many be saved through this ordeal!

*"The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord." (Proverbs 22: 31 NKJV)
